Cessna private jet charter

In the UK private charter market, Cessna Citations consistently rank among the most booked midsize jets — Air Charter Service names the XLS+ as one of Britain's top choices, though availability naturally shifts with the season. The broader Citation family has logged over 35 million flight hours across more than 8,000 delivered aircraft, which gives the type a depth of operational history that newer entrants simply haven't had time to build. Citations fly in over 100 countries. The range runs from the four-seat Mustang at around £1,500/hr up to the twelve-seat Longitude at £4,500/hr and above. Three new variants — the Citation Ascend, CJ3 Gen2 and M2 Gen2 — cleared certification in 2025, and the 2023 NetJets deal for up to 1,500 Citations over fifteen years remains the largest single order the line has ever seen.

Private Jets UK can arrange Cessna Citation charter from any UK airport. All aircraft operate with a professional crew and are maintained to EASA airworthiness standards. Pricing varies by model, route, date and group size — get a quote via WhatsApp on +44 204 577-31-19 or at [email protected]

Cessna Citation family - models available for charter

The Citation line has been in continuous production since 1972, with more than 8,000 frames delivered — a total no other business jet series has reached. Five active families currently cover the market, each built around a different mission. The 2025 certifications — Ascend, CJ3 Gen2, M2 Gen2 with Garmin autothrottles — extended a product cycle that's been running for over fifty years. One practical thread runs through every Citation variant: shorter takeoff distances than most competitors in the same weight class, which opens up regional airfields and private strips that jets with longer ground rolls simply can't use.

Very Light Jets - Mustang - from £1,500/hr

The Mustang (510) seats four passengers, runs on two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW615F engines producing 1,460 lbf each, and tops out at 41,000 ft with a 1,150 nm range. There's a small enclosed lavatory. For pairs or small groups on short UK and European sectors where the brief is twin-engine safety at the lowest jet rate, it does the job cleanly. Hourly rates start around £1,500.

Light Jets - M2 Gen2, CJ3 Gen2, CJ4 - from £2,000/hr

The CitationJet family covers light jets with several active variants, all approved for single-pilot operation — which keeps operating costs lower than two-crew alternatives. The 2025 Gen2 updates to the CJ3 and M2 added Garmin autothrottles as standard, the most substantial refresh Textron has put into this segment. CJ3 Gen2 fits up to ten passengers with roughly 2,040 nm range; the CJ4 stretches to 2,165 nm at 453 kt. For groups of four to eight on European sectors where short-field access matters and costs need to stay manageable, these are sensible choices. Rates start from £2,000/hr.

Midsize Jets - XLS+, Ascend, Latitude - from £3,000/hr

The Citation XLS+ has been the backbone of UK midsize charter for years — over 1,000 aircraft in the 560XL family have been delivered since 2000, and the type is readily available at most UK operators. Its 3,560 ft takeoff roll is short enough for London City Airport, which rules out most competing midsizers. Triple-pane windows and a triple-sealed door make it noticeably quieter than you might expect for a jet this age. Standard configuration is nine passengers.

The Ascend, which replaces the XLS+ going forward, got its FAA certification on 6 November 2025 and saw its first delivery on 30 December 2025. It keeps the 560XL airframe but moves to Garmin G5000 avionics with autothrottle, new PW545D engines, a flat cabin floor, windows 15% larger than the XLS+, Gogo Wi-Fi included from the factory, and a Honeywell APU that doesn't need ground crew to operate. Range is 2,100 nm with up to twelve seats. The type is starting to appear in the charter market through 2026, so availability is still building.

The Latitude sits a step above on range — 2,700 nm, flat-floor stand-up cabin, Garmin G5000 — and has been the world's best-selling midsize jet for several years running, with its 400th delivery in 2024. Midsize rates from £3,000/hr depending on model and route. Charter a Citation XLS+.

Super-Midsize - Longitude - from £4,500/hr

The Longitude seats eight to twelve in a flat-floor stand-up cabin, with Garmin G5000 avionics and two Honeywell HTF7700L engines at 7,665 lbf each. Range is 3,500 nm — enough to cover all of Europe non-stop, and London to New York with one fuel stop. NetJets' 2023 commitment for up to 1,500 Citations over fifteen years included the Longitude; that order is still the largest in Citation history. Textron delivered 171 jets in 2025, up from 151 the year before. Charter rates from around £4,500/hr.

Turboprops - Cessna Grand Caravan EX - from £600/hr

The 208 Grand Caravan EX carries up to fourteen passengers and goes places jets can't: grass strips, beach landings, mountain airfields. It's powered by the Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-140 at 867 shp with Garmin G1000 NXi avionics. More than 3,000 have been delivered to operators across 100-plus countries. For groups of eight to fourteen on short sectors where the destination airport decides the aircraft type, the Caravan is often the only sensible option. Rates from £600/hr.

Why Citations tend to dominate UK private charter

  • Short-field performance. Every Citation is designed to use shorter runway lengths than most competitors in its class — the XLS+ and Ascend need 3,560–3,600 ft, which gets them into London City, Biggin Hill, Cannes Mandelieu and the smaller Scottish airfields that are common UK departure points. That's a practical difference, not a marketing one;
  • Fleet depth. With 8,000-plus Citations operating in over 100 countries, the maintenance network, parts availability and trained crew density are hard to replicate. Textron Aviation ships more business jets than any other manufacturer by volume. For charter clients, that translates to lower AOG risk and faster return-to-service when things do go wrong;
  • Active product line. Three certified variants in 2025. A $7.7 billion backlog. NetJets committing 1,500 aircraft. Whether that momentum continues is something only time will tell, but the current signals suggest Cessna isn't treating the Citation as a legacy product;
  • Operational history. 35 million fleet hours across half a century of production gives operators and insurers a track record that newer types — however capable — simply don't have yet.

Cessna history in business aviation

Clyde Vernon Cessna started the company in Wichita, Kansas in 1927. By 1963 more than 50,000 light aircraft had come off the line. The jet chapter opened in 1972 with the Citation I. The Citation X, which arrived in 1990 and was updated as the X+ in 2013, held the title of fastest civil aircraft in the world at Mach 0.935 when it was introduced — a distinction that matters less now but still comes up in conversations about what the platform has been capable of. In March 2014 the Cessna brand was folded into Textron Aviation alongside Beechcraft and Hawker. As of 2025: 8,000-plus deliveries, 35 million fleet hours, a $7.7 billion backlog, 171 jets delivered that year. The XLS family alone accounts for over 1,000 deliveries in 25 years.

Frequently asked questions - Cessna charter UK

Which Cessna jet should I charter?
Group size and how far you're going will narrow it down quickly. For two to four people on short hops — under 90 minutes, UK or near-European — the Mustang keeps costs as low as any jet can, from £1,500/hr. Six to eight passengers on European sectors: the CJ3 Gen2 or CJ4. For nine on European routes, the XLS+ is the most commonly available Cessna in UK charter at £3,000/hr and up. Longer range or larger groups push you toward the Latitude (£3,500/hr) or Longitude (£4,500/hr). The Ascend is the XLS+ successor — Garmin G5000, flat floor, PW545D engines — and is entering the charter market through 2026.

Can a Cessna Citation use London City Airport?
Yes — the XLS+ and Ascend are both certified for LCY's steep approach. The 3,560–3,600 ft takeoff distance works within the runway. Several CJ variants and the Mustang also meet LCY performance requirements, though you should confirm certification on any specific booking. For clients based in the City, departing LCY typically saves 60 to 90 minutes of ground transfer compared to Luton or Farnborough.

How much does it cost to charter a Cessna Citation in the UK?
Rates run from roughly £1,500/hr for a Mustang to £4,500/hr and above for a Longitude. The XLS+ — the most frequently booked model in the UK — sits at £3,000 to £3,600/hr depending on timing and availability. London to Geneva on the XLS+ comes in from £7,500; London to Edinburgh from £4,500. All quotes from Private Jets UK are fully itemised.

What is the new Citation Ascend and how does it differ from the XLS+?
FAA certification came through on 6 November 2025, first delivery on 30 December 2025. The airframe is the same 560XL, but most things inside and on the flightdeck are new: Garmin G5000 with autothrottle (replacing Collins Pro Line 21), PW545D engines with a 6,000-hour TBO, flat cabin floor, 15% larger windows, Gogo Wi-Fi standard fit, Honeywell APU operable without ground support. Performance figures are close to the XLS+ (441 kt, 2,100 nm). NetJets has said it plans to add the Ascend to its fleet.

Is the Cessna Citation Longitude available for charter in the UK?
Yes. Eight to twelve passengers, flat-floor stand-up cabin, Garmin G5000, 3,500 nm range. All of Europe is within non-stop reach; New York needs one fuel stop. Rates from around £4,500/hr. The type was central to the 2023 NetJets order for up to 1,500 Citations — the largest in the line's history.
