Private jet charter in Ghana
Accra lies almost due south of London, 2,855 nautical miles away, and an Embraer Praetor 600 flies the sector in about 6 h 40 min without a stop. Light and midsize jets cannot make it in one hop, so a Ghana charter starts with choosing an aircraft that has the range, and only then the number of seats. Private Jets UK plans these trips around three facts: the long sector, a landing permit that must be in place before departure, and a single gateway, Kotoka International in Accra, where the business aviation terminal clears passengers under its own roof. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. In Ghana that means the landing and overflight permits, handling and parking at Terminal 1, a car at the aircraft steps and, when the trip goes on to Kumasi or the coast, a Ghanaian operator for the domestic sector, since a British aircraft may not carry passengers between two Ghanaian airports.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Ghana depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Praetor 600 to Accra, nonstop, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Ghana?
Ghana keeps Greenwich Mean Time all year, so the clock on arrival matches Britain in winter and runs one hour behind it in summer. Airport hours in Ghana are quoted in UTC, which is also local time there. These are the sectors from London Biggin Hill on a Praetor 600, gate to gate:
2,609 nautical miles, the north of the country, a listed runway of about 3,400 metres, 23 km north of the cityabout 6 h 10 min
2,787 nautical miles, the Ashanti capital, a domestic airport 6 km from the centreabout 6 h 35 min
2,855 nautical miles, the capital and the gateway for business aviationabout 6 h 40 min
2,901 nautical miles, an air force field on the western coast, the shore base for the offshore oil helicoptersabout 6 h 50 min
Why the aircraft decides everything on this route
A Praetor 600, a Challenger 605 and the larger types cover London to Accra in one hop, with fuel to spare for a diversion. A light jet such as the Phenom 300E and a midsize jet such as the Citation XLS+ have ranges of roughly 2,000 nautical miles, so they route through Gran Canaria or Morocco, which typically adds about an hour for the landing and the fuel uplift.
The stop does not always save money. On the same departure from Biggin Hill a Phenom 300E through Gran Canaria prices at about £39,850, and takes about 8 h 40 min gate to gate, while a Citation XLS+ on the same routing comes to about £49,650, more than the £45,500 for a Praetor 600 that flies straight through. For a party of more than four the nonstop super-midsize jet is usually both faster and cheaper.
From the north and the long days
Manchester is 2,983 nautical miles from Accra and Edinburgh 3,148, against 2,855 from Biggin Hill. On a Challenger 605 the Edinburgh sector runs to about 7 h 20 min. A same-day return from London is possible on paper and pointless in practice, since the crew's duty day is used up on the way out and the aircraft stays overnight.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Prices for the private jet flights to Ghana
Typical private jet charter prices from Britain into Ghana, listed cheapest first. The entry price is Accra on a Praetor 600 from Biggin Hill, because that is the aircraft class that flies the sector without a stop and the airport with a business aviation terminal of its own; the table then climbs with the distance from the north of Britain and with the size of the cabin:

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– The Ghanaian end moves the price a little. Tamale is 246 nautical miles closer to Biggin Hill than Accra and Takoradi is 46 further, which on a Praetor 600 is about £3,700 less into the north and about £700 more into the west. Each hundred miles adds roughly £1,500 on this aircraft. A flight to Kumasi or Tamale in the table is priced as a charter that lands there, which is possible, but the usual plan is to land at Accra and use a Ghanaian operator for the last stretch;
– A quote for Ghana lists the landing and overflight permits, the handling at Terminal 1, the parking and the fuel as lines of their own, and the crew's hotel for any night spent on the ground. When two quotes for the same trip differ, the gap usually sits in those lines and in the choice of stop, not in the flying itself.
Private jet flights within Ghana and to its neighbours
Ghana is compact. Kumasi and Takoradi are about 110 nautical miles from Accra, and Tamale in the north is 250. Scheduled domestic airlines connect these cities, and a private aircraft keeps the timetable in your hands. These are the hops we are asked for, and the neighbouring capitals that clients combine with a Ghanaian trip:

Two things worth knowing about the sectors
– A British aircraft cannot fly them with passengers. Foreign-registered aircraft are not permitted to operate domestic legs inside Ghana, so the sectors from Accra to Kumasi, Takoradi or Tamale are flown by a Ghanaian operator. The jet that brought you from London usually waits at Accra or returns to base empty. We name the operator for each leg when we quote;
– The neighbours are a separate matter. Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal each have their own permit, visa and handling rules, so a hop from Accra to Lagos or Abidjan is arranged as a new international trip, with a new permit, and the passport requirements of the country you are entering apply. The lines in the table are straight-line estimates, not a promise that a slot exists for a given date.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Ghana:
Turboprops
The aircraft for the Ghanaian sectors, not for the journey from London. Accra to Kumasi or Takoradi is under an hour in either, and the strips at both are long enough for a turboprop with room to spare.
Light and midsize jets
These need a fuel stop on the way out from Britain, in the Canaries or Morocco, and suit four to six people with soft bags. On the shorter hops along the coast, to Lome, Cotonou or Lagos, they are a sensible choice.
Super-midsize
The first class that crosses to Accra in one hop from London. The Praetor 600 sets the entry price on this route, and the Challenger 350 has the range from southern England with less margin from the north.
Heavy jets
For a delegation or a family with staff and luggage. A Challenger 605, Legacy 650 or Falcon 2000LXS flies from anywhere in Britain without a stop and keeps a reserve for the weather in West Africa.
Ultra-long range
The Global 6000 and the Gulfstreams save about half an hour on the sector and carry up to 16 people, which matters for a ministerial or corporate group.

Because the domestic legs need a Ghanaian operator, the quote for a trip that continues to Kumasi or Tamale often shows two aircraft, the long-range jet from Britain and a smaller one on the home ground.

Business aviation airports in Ghana
Ghana has one airport that takes international business traffic every day and three regional fields that matter for particular errands. Accra is the gateway for nearly every charter, and its business terminal has its own handler, lounge and customs desk:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Accra Kotoka International ACC / DGAA |
about 9 km north of the city centre | Runway 03/21 of 3,403 metres with ILS and VOR/DME approaches, fire category 9, listed as open round the clock with customs and immigration. The Ghana Air Force shares the airfield. Business aviation uses Terminal 1, run by McDan Aviation under an FBO licence from the airport company. Listed as a coordinated airport with handling compulsory |
| Kumasi, Prempeh I International KMS / DGSI |
about 6 km from the city centre | A runway of 1,981 metres with an instrument landing system and a VIP lounge in the terminal. Scheduled flights are domestic only. For heavier jets the day's temperature and weight are checked against the runway length before we confirm |
| Tamale, Yakubu Tali International TML / DGLE |
about 23 km north of the city centre | A listed runway 05/23 of 3,400 metres, a terminal with a VIP lounge and customs and immigration provision, and a record of charter and pilgrimage flights. The harmattan haze of January and February can disturb operations here more than elsewhere |
| Takoradi TKD / DGTK |
in Sekondi-Takoradi, on the western coast | An air force field with an asphalt runway 03/21 of 1,751 metres. It is the main shore base for the helicopters that serve the Jubilee offshore oil field, and two Ghanaian airlines fly it to Accra. We confirm access and hours for each flight |
Four rules settle most Ghanaian arrivals before a quote goes out:
Two permits before departure
Ghana asks for both an overflight permit and a landing permit for private and charter flights. Handlers typically work to five to seven working days for the landing permit, which the aviation authority processes on weekdays only, so a Friday request for Monday rarely works.
Papers for the permit
The aircraft's airworthiness and registration certificates, the noise certificate, worldwide insurance, crew details with passport copies and licences, the passenger manifest and a local contact. A private aircraft does not need an air operator certificate.
Terminal 1: one building
McDan Aviation runs the executive lounge, a crew lounge and a flight planning office, with a hangar, conference rooms and a restaurant that supplies inflight catering. The operator states that customs and immigration are completed in the same building.
Parking comes with the permit
A parking slot at the airport is needed to operate the flight, and handling is compulsory. If the apron is full, the local handler tells the crew where the aircraft will stand; Lagos and Abidjan are the listed alternates, both open round the clock.
Hours are not the problem, the permit calendar is
Accra is listed open round the clock, with the tower, customs and immigration staffed at night, and all times in the aeronautical information are in UTC, which is Ghanaian local time. The office that issues the permits keeps weekday office hours only. A late change to the flight plan therefore waits until the next working morning, and a revised schedule may carry a new permit number.
Arriving from Britain: visas, health papers and customs
Ghana is not a place where a British passport alone will do. The visa, the yellow fever certificate and the permit for the aircraft are three separate pieces of paper, and each has its own lead time.
British citizens must hold a visa to visit Ghana. The application is made through the online form of the Ghana High Commission in London, with the supporting documents uploaded and hard copies posted as directed; processing takes 10 to 15 days, and an express in-person service in London is listed at about three daysstart this first
valid for at least six months after the date of arrival, so a passport that looks fine for Europe may be too close to expiry for Accracheck the expiry first
a vaccination certificate is required to enter, and it is uploaded with the visa applicationget the certificate early
all hard currency is declared on the form handed out on arrival, and the Foreign Office warns that foreign currency above the limit can be confiscatedread the limit before you pack
operators typically obtain a crew visa on arrival, listed as valid for up to 72 hours, so a long layover is arranged beforehandwe confirm with the handler
Clearance, permits and the way home
On arrival, passengers and crew clear immigration and customs. The terminal operator states that this happens under the same roof at Terminal 1, and the handler confirms the arrangement for your flight. A VIP clearance is arranged in advance through the handler, and the State Protocol Office decides whether to grant it. Operator guidance puts the formalities at 30 to 45 minutes.
Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation. Passengers who hold another passport should check their own entry rules before they fly. The Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region, and our planning follows the published advice.

Which airport for which part of Ghana
The airport follows the errand, and in Ghana the errand is rarely further than a few hours from the capital by road. These are the usual pairings:
the capital, its ministries and offices, and the port city of Tema, with Kotoka about 9 km from the centreAccra
about 147 km by road west of Accra, typically two and a half to three hours, with the castles on the coast and the forest park inlandAccra, then by road
Winneba is about an hour from Accra, Akropong about an hour north and Ada one and a half to two hours eastAccra, then by road
three to four hours east of Accra by road, with the beaches and the lagoon and the Hogbetsotso festival in NovemberAccra, then by road
the Ashanti capital, 6 km from the airport, with Manhyia Palace; a charter from Britain lands at Accra and a Ghanaian operator takes you onAccra, then Kumasi
the oil and gas shore base, with offshore helicopters, and the road to the western beachesTakoradi
the north, with the airport 23 km from Tamale; the wildlife of Mole is best from December to MarchTamale
Accra, the coast and the north: what our clients go for
Accra is where the business is. The Terminal 1 lounge has conference rooms, so a short meeting can be held at the airport itself, which suits the trip that lasts a night in town and returns on the same aircraft.
The coast west of the capital is the second reason to come. Cape Coast and Elmina, about 147 km from Accra, are where the old castles stand, and Kakum National Park sits inland behind them. Bakatue is held in Elmina in early July and the Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast in early September, and PANAFEST, held every second year in the period from late July to early August, centres on the same coast.
Kumasi is the traditional capital of the Ashanti. Manhyia Palace hosts the Akwasidae gathering, which recurs on a 42-day cycle, on every sixth Sunday. The airport, which has a VIP lounge, is 6 km from the city and takes domestic flights.
The north is smaller in numbers and larger in distance. Tamale is the base for Mole National Park, the best time for wildlife is December to March, and the same months bring the harmattan, a dry wind that can fill the sky with dust and delay flights, Tamale more than most.
On the western coast, Takoradi works for the oil business. The airport is the main shore base for the helicopters that fly to the offshore platforms of the Jubilee field, and for clients in that trade a private aircraft saves the road or a scheduled hop to Accra.
The Ghanaian year: dry months, wet months and the harmattan
Ghana has no winter in the European sense. It has a dry season and a wet one, and the south and the north keep different rhythms:
the dry season and the high season, with little rain and easier travel by road. March is typically the hottest monthhigh season
the harmattan: hazy skies, dry air and sometimes flight delays or cancellations from poor visibility, especially at Tamaleplan spare time
the south is at its wettest in April, May and June, and rain can flood roads and slow travel inlandwet season
some relief from rain in the south and a surge of visitors from Europe and North America, so hotels and cars are booked earlybusy
the rains return in the south, the harvest festivals begin, and the north is coolershoulder
The permit does not know about the weather
A private flight to Ghana is planned around the permit rather than the season, so a trip in the wet months or in the harmattan costs the same to fly. What changes is the margin. In January and February we keep a buffer for northern sectors, and in the wet months we keep the road transfers short, because a flooded road can lose more time than the aircraft saves.
The Ghanaian calendar: independence, festivals and the December crowd
The fixed dates are few, and the dates of the festivals shift from year to year, so the organisers' announcements are checked before a booking. Each pulls on a different part of the country:
What a Ghanaian event does to a flight plan
Ghana does not have the few congested airports of the Mediterranean, so the pressure falls on hotels, cars and the permit desk. December is the month to book first. Operator guidance for large events in Accra warns that crew rooms become scarce and that some hotels ask for full payment in advance, so the car, the hotel and the permit are arranged together.

Flying to Ghana with a dog or a cat
A pet can travel in the cabin, but the paperwork for Ghana is a matter of weeks and not days. The destination issues an import permit before the animal leaves, and the journey home falls under the stricter British rules for countries that are not part of the simple pet scheme.
The one fact to read before you book
Ghana requires an import permit for a personal pet. The British export guidance for Ghana asks the owner to notify the Chief Veterinary Officer in Accra at least four weeks before the expected arrival, after which the Director of Veterinary Services may issue the permit. The permit is listed as valid for eight weeks. For a dog the permit follows blood tests for Brucella canis, Babesia gibsoni, Dirofilaria immitis and Leishmania, and is issued only if every result is negative.
On the way home Ghana does not appear among the countries with the simple route into Britain, so the rules for non-listed countries apply. We check the current position on gov.uk for your dates before we confirm the aircraft.
- An ISO-standard microchip fitted before arrival, with the number on every certificate;
- A rabies vaccination given no sooner than 30 days and no more than six months before entry;
- The other vaccinations on the Ghanaian list: for a dog distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, both leptospira strains and parainfluenza, and for a cat panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus;
- A British export health certificate for Ghana, signed by an Official Veterinarian who examines the animal not more than 48 hours before export, with the owner's declaration of where the animal has lived;
- Treatment against internal parasites for a dog and against external parasites for a dog or a cat, from a licensed vet before travel;
- Presentation at Kotoka International. An animal that does not meet the conditions may be quarantined at the owner's expense or sent back.
Coming home, a pet from a non-listed country needs a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, then a rabies blood test taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, and a wait of three months from the date of the sample before the animal travels. The wait is not required if the animal was vaccinated, blood-tested and given a British health certificate or an EU pet passport before it left for the non-listed country, which is why we ask owners to do the tests before the outward flight. A dog must also be treated against tapeworm by a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before landing in Britain. No more than five animals may travel with one person, and an animal that arrives without the right paperwork can be held in quarantine for up to four months.
We tell the handler in advance and confirm in writing which entry point will receive the animal and which papers are needed. Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species are set out in our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Ghana run the sector is long, so the saving is large in absolute terms even when the percentage is the same as anywhere else.
Where Ghanaian empty legs come from
– A charter that lands in Accra and does not wait: the aircraft returns to Europe empty, and the leg home is the one most often offered;
– The weeks around December, when aircraft arrive full for the festival season and leave empty a few days later;
– Aircraft that fly to West Africa for another contract and are repositioned through Accra on the way back.
A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though the operator owns the date and a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Ghanaian empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ghana (Accra) - UK (London Biggin Hill) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £19,100 |
| Ghana (Accra) - UK (Bristol) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £19,150 |
| UK (London Luton) - Ghana (Accra) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £19,350 |
| UK (Manchester) - Ghana (Accra) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £19,950 |
| Ghana (Accra) - UK (Birmingham) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £25,050 |
| UK (Farnborough) - Ghana (Accra) | Legacy 650 | 13 seats | £25,850 |
| UK (Edinburgh) - Ghana (Accra) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £26,850 |
| Ghana (Accra) - UK (London Gatwick) | Falcon 2000LXS | 10 seats | £27,450 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Praetor 600 from Manchester to Accra with nine aboard works out at about £2,200 a seat, and with four aboard about £5,000;
– The permit still has to be obtained for an empty leg that carries passengers, so the lead time is the same as for a normal charter, and the visa and yellow fever certificate cannot be skipped because the flight is cheap.

Helicopter charter
Helicopters in Ghana are a short-range tool, used in the south of the country and on the coast. The operator of Terminal 1 at Accra has advertised a helicopter alongside its aircraft, and Takoradi is the main shore base for the helicopters that serve the offshore oil fields. These are the transfers that come up:
the western coast and the oil business, in place of a road journey or a scheduled hopabout 1 h 05 min
the Ashanti capital, in place of a long driveabout 1 h 05 min
the capital of Togo, just across the borderabout 1 h
inland to the coast without passing through Accraabout 1 h 05 min
the north, the longest transfer on the listabout 2 h 20 min
The times are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots, and the operator confirms the route for your date. As with aeroplanes, a helicopter that flies passengers between two Ghanaian places is a Ghanaian one, and a landing at a lodge, hotel or private site away from an airport needs the landing site agreed in advance.
Two points on rotary legs in Ghana
A helicopter to a lodge near Mole National Park, a beach on the Volta or a castle on the coast depends on an approved landing site and a daylight window. The harmattan can reduce visibility in January and February, and we leave a spare day in the plan for that season.

Flights from the UK to Ghana
Biggin Hill and Farnborough are the south-east business aviation airfields best suited to a long sector, with Luton, Gatwick, Stansted and London City as the other London options, and Southampton, Bristol and Birmingham further out. Manchester is 128 nautical miles further from Accra than Biggin Hill, which adds about £1,950 on a Praetor 600, and Edinburgh, at 3,148 nautical miles, is flown on a Challenger 605 with a longer day. Ghanaian charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
ACCRA · TWO NIGHTS ON THE GROUND
Two directors and a signing
Biggin Hill - Accra and return, Praetor 600, about 6 h 40 min each way · 2 pax
The visas and the yellow fever certificates were in hand before we asked for the permit, which was requested more than a week ahead. The aircraft stayed at Terminal 1, and the meeting was held in the lounge's conference room before a drive into town.
ACCRA · DECEMBER WITH THE FAMILY
Eight people for the holiday month
London Luton - Accra, Challenger 605, about 6 h 45 min · 8 pax
A family travelling with staff booked in October for the first week of December. We asked for the crew hotel and the car with the permit, because in December rooms and drivers run short, and the aircraft returned empty two days later.
TAKORADI · A TECHNICAL TEAM
Four engineers heading for the oil coast
Southampton - Takoradi, Legacy 650, about 6 h 45 min · 4 pax
Takoradi is an air force field, so access and opening hours were confirmed for the date before the aircraft was priced. The alternative, landing at Accra and flying on, would have cost an extra operator and an hour on the ground.
KUMASI · TWO AIRCRAFT
A delegation going on to the Ashanti capital
Manchester - Accra, Praetor 600, about 7 h, then Accra - Kumasi on a Ghanaian turboprop, about 55 min · 6 pax
A British aircraft cannot carry passengers between two Ghanaian cities, so the delegation changed at Accra to a local operator's aircraft. Our quote showed both operators and the transfer between them at Terminal 1.
WITH THE DOG · TEN WEEKS OF PAPER
A couple and a retriever bound for a long stay
Biggin Hill - Accra, Praetor 600, about 6 h 40 min · 2 pax + dog
The import permit and the blood tests came first and set the date. The owners had the dog tested for the British return before leaving, which meant no three-month wait at home, and the tapeworm treatment was given within the five-day window before the flight back.
EMPTY LEG · AFTER THE FESTIVAL SEASON
A flexible return from Accra
Accra - Birmingham, Challenger 605 empty leg, about 6 h 50 min · 5 pax
The client gave us a window of three days instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £25,050, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a Wednesday departure.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Ghana
1How long does it take to fly to Ghana by private jet?
About 6 hours 40 minutes from London to Accra on a Praetor 600, without a stop. A light jet such as the Phenom 300E needs a fuel stop in Gran Canaria or Morocco and takes about 8 hours 40 minutes. Ghana keeps Greenwich Mean Time all year, so the local clock matches Britain in winter and is an hour behind in summer.
2How much does a private jet to Ghana cost?
From about £45,500 one way from Biggin Hill to Accra on a Praetor 600. The same aircraft is about £3,700 less into Tamale and about £700 more into Takoradi, and a Challenger 605 from Edinburgh to Accra is about £63,900. Domestic hops inside Ghana are far lower, with Accra to Kumasi from £3,100 on a turboprop. Permits, handling, parking and the crew's hotel are quoted as lines of their own.
3Which airports do private jets use in Ghana?
Accra Kotoka International is the gateway, with Terminal 1 for business aviation, operated by McDan Aviation, and it is listed open round the clock with customs and immigration. Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi are the regional fields. A British aircraft cannot carry passengers between two Ghanaian airports, so a trip that continues from Accra uses a Ghanaian operator for the domestic sector.
4What are the visa, health and permit rules for a private flight from Britain to Ghana?
British citizens need a visa for Ghana, applied for through the Ghana High Commission in London, which takes 10 to 15 days or about three days by the express service. The passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required. The aircraft needs an overflight permit and a landing permit, which handlers typically plan on five to seven working days for, and the flight home needs a General Aviation Report filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Ghana?
Yes, with planning of several weeks. Ghana requires an import permit, for which the owner notifies the Chief Veterinary Officer in Accra at least four weeks before arrival, and a dog is tested for four diseases first. The animal needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination, an export health certificate signed by an Official Veterinarian and parasite treatment, and is presented at Kotoka International. For the return, Britain applies its rules for non-listed countries, including a rabies blood test, and a dog needs tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing.
6How early should I book a private jet to Ghana?
As soon as the dates are known, and at least two to three weeks ahead as a working minimum, since the visa takes up to 15 days and the landing permit typically five to seven working days. The permit office works on weekdays only, so a late change waits for the next working morning. December is the busiest month, with crew hotels and cars in short supply.
