Private jet charter in Essen
From the London fields the Rhine and Ruhr are an hour and ten minutes away by light jet, but Essen's own airfield is meant for turboprops and helicopters, so the first decision on any Essen charter is which of three jet airports you land at. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around that choice. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Düsseldorf is about 25 km from the centre of Essen and has an executive terminal that opens at half past five, Dortmund is a smaller and quieter field to the east, and Cologne/Bonn never closes, so the useful questions are where the meeting is, which week of the fair calendar it falls in and how late the return has to leave.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Essen depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Luton, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Essen?
An hour and ten minutes from Biggin Hill, London City or Luton in a light jet, an hour and a quarter from Farnborough and Southampton, an hour and twenty to twenty-five minutes from Birmingham and Manchester, and an hour and forty from Glasgow. Germany keeps Central European time, one hour ahead of Britain, so a departure at seven in the morning lands at about ten past nine local time. The table gives the sector into Düsseldorf, the airport we use for most Essen trips: 261 to 503 nautical miles, short enough that a light jet suits nearly everybody and a heavy aircraft is wasted unless Essen is only the first stop.

Door to door, and why Düsseldorf is the default
Leave a London airfield at seven and you are on the ground at Düsseldorf at about ten past nine, local time. The executive terminal stands on the west side of the airfield and has its own security and passport control, so the walk from the aircraft to the car takes minutes. Central Essen is about 25 km away in a straight line, and outside the morning and evening peaks the drive is typically around forty minutes. Add the transfer to the British airfield and central London to central Essen comes to roughly three hours.
Light jet or midsize: what to ask on this route
– Up to four people with ordinary bags, take the light jet. At an hour and ten minutes in a CJ3+ or a Phenom nobody is cramped, and neither the 3,000 m and 2,700 m runways at Düsseldorf nor the single 2,000 m runway at Dortmund limits it;
– Boxed games for a publisher's stand, exhibition kit, a team that wants to spread papers out in flight, or a departure from Edinburgh or Glasgow all point to a midsize cabin. We quote both classes side by side so the difference is on the page;
– Heavy aircraft belong to the longer legs. If Essen is the first stop on the way to the Gulf, Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn have the runway for a full-fuel departure, and Dortmund is checked case by case.

The same trip into Dortmund or Cologne/Bonn
On the London fields the gateway hardly moves the price: a light jet from Biggin Hill is £5,300 into Düsseldorf, £5,300 into Dortmund and £5,300 into Cologne/Bonn. From Manchester it is £6,000, £6,300 and £6,300, and from Glasgow on a midsize Citation XLS+ £9,400, £9,700 and £9,850. So the airport should follow the meeting and not the invoice: pick the field that saves the drive, then let us find the aircraft that is already standing nearest to it.

Private jet flights from Essen
The Ruhr cities run into one another and are tied together by motorways and fast trains, so a jet is rarely the answer for the neighbouring town. Cologne/Bonn at 30 nautical miles from Düsseldorf and Dortmund at 36 are distances a car often matches, and we say so when it is the wrong tool. Where a jet earns its place is the second leg of a trade-fair week, the day that starts in Essen and ends in Frankfurt or Amsterdam, and the long sector on to Munich, Paris or the Gulf. Why a short hop costs what a longer one does
A jet quote is built from the hours flown plus a fixed cost of taking the aircraft out and bringing it home, and on short sectors the fixed part is nearly everything. That is why Düsseldorf to Frankfurt at 106 nautical miles and Düsseldorf to Berlin at 269 cost the same in a Phenom, and why the distance is not what you are paying for. The turboprop narrows the gap: a Pilatus PC-12 on the short hops at the top of the table is the least expensive aircraft in it, and turboprops are also the fixed-wing aircraft that the Essen/Mülheim airfield describes as its on-demand traffic.
Reading an onward quote
– Which field it is and what it takes. Münster/Osnabrück has a 2,170 m runway and Paderborn/Lippstadt 2,180 m, both comfortable for a light or midsize jet, while Cologne/Bonn has three runways, the longest 3,815 m, and does not close at night. We confirm hours, customs and the handler in writing before the price is final;
– Whether the week is priced as one trip. An aircraft that stays with you between Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and the way home costs less than three separate charters, and in a fair week it is also the only way to be sure of the second leg.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Essen:
Light jets, the usual choice
Four or five people with ordinary luggage fit comfortably in this class on a sector of just over an hour. Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Cologne/Bonn take these aircraft without a second thought, so the budget is better spent on the departure time than on range you will never use.
Midsize, for stand kit and the Scottish legs
Exhibition stands, product samples and a team with laptops are what push a party past the light-jet hold, and so is a departure from Glasgow or Edinburgh, where the flight stretches to an hour and forty.
Super-midsize and large
For a delegation that travels as one party, for a team that holds its meeting on board, and for trips that carry on from the Rhine to the Gulf instead of turning round. Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn have the runway for a full-fuel departure.
Turboprops
The aircraft for the short Westphalian hops, and the class that can reach Essen/Mülheim, subject to the airport's prior-permission rules. Over a sector of thirty or sixty nautical miles the saving against a jet is large.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: Düsseldorf to Essen/Mülheim in minutes, then on to the Ruhr towns. A landing site away from an airfield is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Essen sits among the Düsseldorf, Cologne and Dortmund fleets, with Amsterdam and Frankfurt a short positioning flight away, so outside a fair week some suitable aircraft is normally standing close by, and that is where the better price usually comes from. In the Medica or drupa week the same aircraft are taken early, which is the reason to ask early.

Business aviation airports in Essen
Asked which airport serves Essen, the honest answer has three parts: the one inside the city that jets do not use, the one that carries most trips, and two that are sometimes the better choice. It helps to know them before a quote arrives with one of them in it.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Düsseldorf DUS / EDDL |
The default gateway, about 25 km south-west of central Essen in a straight line. Two parallel runways of about 3,000 m and 2,700 m. Private flights use the Executive Terminal on the west side of the airfield, open daily from 05:30 to 23:00, where Jet Aviation is responsible for the operation: marshalling, cleaning, refuelling, charges and access to the security area. Security and passport control are inside the terminal. This is also a busy airport, so the arrival and departure times are agreed with the terminal and not assumed |
| Dortmund DTM / EDLW |
About 42 km east-north-east of central Essen, with a single asphalt runway of 2,000 m. A general aviation terminal run by the airport stands in a building separate from the passenger terminal, with its own customs, immigration and security, and Dortmund Handling Service looks after the aircraft. It is the right choice when the day is in Dortmund, at the football or in the eastern Ruhr. It is not a round-the-clock airport, so the closing time matters for an evening return and is confirmed for your date |
| Cologne/Bonn CGN / EDDK |
About 66 km south of central Essen and 12 km from the centre of Cologne. Three runways, the longest 3,815 m, and one of the few German airports open round the clock. Business aviation is handled by three providers: CAS Cologne Aviation Service, Business Aviation Centre Cologne and Swissport Executive Cologne. Choose it for gamescom and the carnival, for a late arrival, or when Düsseldorf cannot offer the time you need |
| Essen/Mülheim ESS / EDLE |
The airfield of Essen itself, on the Mülheim side, a few kilometres south-west of the centre, with a single asphalt runway of 1,553 m. It is not a jet airport. Its own description of the traffic it handles is on-demand turboprop flights, and a court once annulled the exceptional permits that had been issued for small Citation jets because a resident had complained, so we do not quote a business jet into it. Published hours are 08:30 to 19:30 in winter and 07:30 to 21:00 in summer, and flights between 06:00 and 22:00 outside those hours need prior permission. Useful as a helicopter base, and for a turboprop where the permission is in place |
| Weeze and Mönchengladbach NRN and MGL |
Weeze has a 2,440 m runway and lies about 60 km west-north-west of Essen, near the Dutch border. Mönchengladbach is about 43 km west-south-west, with a 1,200 m runway, mostly general aviation and few business charter passenger flights. We name them as fallbacks when Düsseldorf has no time available, not as first choices |
| Münster/Osnabrück and Paderborn/Lippstadt FMO / EDDG and PAD / EDLP |
For northern and eastern Westphalia and not for Essen itself. Münster/Osnabrück has a 2,170 m runway and lies about 90 km north-east of Essen. Paderborn/Lippstadt has a 2,180 m runway, about 18 km from the centre of Paderborn and about 110 km east of Essen. Both take light and midsize jets comfortably |
Four things decide most Essen arrivals:
Choose the gateway by the meeting
Draw the circle round the meeting and not round the city. The centre of Essen, the exhibition grounds and Zollverein are best reached from Düsseldorf. Dortmund and the eastern Ruhr are better from Dortmund, and Cologne, gamescom and the carnival from Cologne/Bonn. The three lie at roughly 25, 40 and 65 km in a straight line from the centre of Essen, and the right one is whichever saves the drive.
Hours and the evening return
The Düsseldorf executive terminal is open from 05:30 to 23:00. Dortmund is not an all-night airport, and Cologne/Bonn does not close. The evening is where fair weeks pinch: everyone leaves the halls at once, and a return planned for ten at night has no margin if the stand takes an hour longer to pack. We confirm the handler and the closing time before the quote is final, and build the return to leave comfortably early.
Border and passport
Britain is outside Schengen, so the first German airport you land at is an external border, and the Ruhr cities, Cologne and Düsseldorf are all inside Schengen with no checks on the roads between them. At Düsseldorf the passport control is inside the executive terminal. British passport holders need no visa for a stay of up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued within the last ten years and valid for three months beyond the date of leaving. Entry and exit checks may include a photograph and fingerprints.
Cars and the fair days
Messe Essen lies in Rüttenscheid beside the Grugapark and is served by two Stadtbahn stops, the A52 motorway and the B224 federal road. On the opening day of a large event the roads round it fill. Give us the hall and the hotel when you book, not only the airport, and the car and the drop-off point are planned before the quote and not on the morning.

Border and passport: clear once, at the first airport
The arrival formalities are done where you first touch German soil, and nowhere else on the trip. A party that lands at Düsseldorf for a meeting in Essen is through the border check in the terminal and has no further control on the way, and one that carries on to Amsterdam or Frankfurt after Essen is checked once, on arrival. Whether a flight from Britain can clear the border at Essen/Mülheim itself is something we settle with the airport and the Federal Police for your date, and clients usually choose Düsseldorf and take a helicopter or a car. For the return to Britain a General Aviation Report is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and a guest who does not hold a British or Irish passport usually needs a UK electronic travel authorisation or a visa for the flight home.

From the apron to Zollverein
Essen is the second-largest city of the Ruhr after Dortmund, with about 570,000 people in a region of some 5.3 million. For a century its address was coal and steel, Krupp above all. Today the head offices of RWE, E.ON, Evonik, thyssenkrupp, Aldi Nord and Hochtief are in the city, and the Zollverein colliery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has become a museum quarter with the Ruhr Museum in the former coal washery. The distances that matter are the transfers from the three airports and the short hops across the city.

Flying to Essen with a dog or a cat
The flight is short enough that most animals sleep through it, and the animal travels beside you in the cabin with no hold involved. The paperwork takes more care than the flight. The certificate is dated for entry into the EU and not for the trip as a whole, and its ten-day life starts on the day it is issued.

What Germany asks for on the way in:
- A microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination or on the same day, and never afterwards;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal is at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days passing before entry;
- An Animal Health Certificate from an Official Veterinarian, issued no more than ten days before entry to the EU and valid for the return to Britain as stated on the certificate. A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales cannot be used for entry;
- Not more than five animals per traveller, presented at a travellers' point of entry;
- For dogs, a vet's tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before the flight back to Britain, written into the paperwork with the product, date and time. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Essen run
– The tapeworm treatment is a German appointment and not a British one. For a weekend trip the window usually leaves Saturday morning as the sensible day, so we find a practice near the hotel and fix the time before the flight is booked;
– Each trip needs its own certificate, and the pet travel document and declaration that Britain requires for the return are separate from it. Check both against the dates of the stay and not against the dates of the booking;
– Ask the hotel and, if a helicopter is part of the plan, the operator whether they take animals. Either can say no, and it is better to hear it before the quote than at the door.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For a private flight with an animal into Britain we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight, and our managers confirm the position for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Essen calendar: fair halls, football and a coalfield turned museum
Essen sets its own rhythm and borrows two more from its neighbours. The fairground in Rüttenscheid has ten halls and about 110,000 square metres under cover, Düsseldorf next door has a fair programme of its own that fills most of the year, and Cologne adds carnival and a games show. The calendar below is the thing to read before choosing an aircraft, because the week sets the price of a hotel room far more than the weather does.
What makes a fair week expensive
Rarely the aircraft. What gets scarce is hotel rooms, drivers and, in the busiest Düsseldorf weeks, space on the apron and at the executive terminal. Visitors fly in for a Düsseldorf fair and sleep in Essen, Cologne or Neuss because the city itself is full, and that spreads one week of demand across the whole Rhine and Ruhr region. Ask a fortnight before Medica and we can usually still help, at a higher price and with fewer departure times to choose from. Ask six weeks ahead and the booking is straightforward. Away from the fair weeks, a day or two is normally enough.
Ways to bring the Essen price down
- Move the dates by a few days where you can. The days after a big fair closes are calm, and so is high summer, between the spring fairs and gamescom;
- Let us choose between Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Cologne/Bonn when the meeting allows. They price alike from London, but an aircraft that is already standing at one of them saves its positioning, and from Scotland the nearest field can be several hundred pounds cheaper than the farthest: an Edinburgh departure is £9,000 into Düsseldorf and £9,400 into Cologne/Bonn;
- Keep to the light jet unless the baggage forces the issue. A party of four with ordinary suitcases gains nothing from a midsize cabin, and the saving pays for the car and the hotel.
Types of flights
Essen produces a different mix from a resort or a capital. It is a head-office city first, a fair city second, and the middle of a conurbation that holds Düsseldorf, Cologne and Dortmund within an hour of each other.
- Head-office travel. With the big groups named above based in the city, the demand is for small parties on fixed days, usually out and back within the day;
- Trade fairs, in three cities. Exhibitors, buyers and stand teams for Messe Essen, Düsseldorf and Cologne, with heavy luggage and a short window on the ground;
- Football. Borussia Dortmund home matches, normally a same-evening return that depends on the closing time of the airport;
- Culture and industrial heritage. Zollverein, the Folkwang Museum, Villa Hügel, the Aalto Theatre and the Grugapark, usually weekend parties of two to six;
- University and medical visits. The University of Duisburg-Essen has a university hospital in Essen, and consultants and patients travel for appointments and conferences;
- Christmas market weekends in Essen, Dortmund, Cologne and Düsseldorf, sometimes with a dog.
The day return deserves a closer look. London is an hour and ten minutes away and the Düsseldorf terminal runs from half past five to eleven at night, which leaves a working day with margin at both ends. The aircraft and crew wait on the ground, and that wait is a real line in the quote, but the total still comes out below two one-way charters. We build the return to leave well before the terminal closes and quote it both ways, so you see the difference.
Empty Legs
Sometimes an aircraft has to fly without passengers to reach its next job, and the operator sells that flight cheaply to fill the seats. On the Rhine and Ruhr these appear in bursts that follow the fair and football calendar.
Where Essen empty legs come from
– Fair weeks in Düsseldorf and Cologne. Aircraft bring exhibitors in for Medica, boot or gamescom and many leave empty a day or two later. The evening departures towards Britain at the end of a fair are the ones most often offered;
– Football evenings in Dortmund. A jet that has delivered a party for a match goes home without them, and the late legs to the London fields are the typical result;
– Neighbouring bases. Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Hamburg are close, and aircraft finishing a job there pass through the Rhine on the way back to Britain.
Flexibility is what pays here. A client with a window of several days finds a match far more often than one who needs a particular evening, and the trade-off is that the date and the hour belong to the operator, who may withdraw the leg if the original booking changes. Open legs are posted on our empty legs page, and we tell you about an Essen match as soon as an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In the Ruhr a helicopter does one thing that no road can do: it removes the motorway. Düsseldorf Airport to Essen/Mülheim is a short hop in the air against a drive of about half an hour, and from Essen/Mülheim the Ruhr towns are minutes apart. The figures are straight-line distances and approximate flying times, set against the road.
19 km to the north-east, the jet-to-helicopter connection most clients ask for, against about 30 minutes by roadabout 15 minutes
48 km to the east, for the football or the eastern Ruhrabout 25 minutes
61 km to the south, against about an hour by roadabout 30 minutes
12 km to the north-east, a scenic hop that works only if a landing site on the ground is approvedabout 15 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– Landing sites are the first question. Away from an aerodrome a helicopter normally needs an approved site, so a company forecourt, a hotel lawn or a stadium car park is agreed before we quote. Essen/Mülheim is the base we plan around;
– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud and fog over the Rhine valley can hold a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a road alternative is planned into the same day;
– In a fair week book the helicopter together with the jet. Rotary capacity is thin when three cities have events at once.
For this ground we use the Airbus H125 for light passenger work, the roomier H130 for scenic and estate transfers, the Bell 429 and Agusta 109 when a twin-engine machine is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. The helicopter is booked together with the jet, so both crews work from one timetable.

Essen charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK
A board meeting in Essen and home for dinner
Biggin Hill - Düsseldorf and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 10 min each way · 4 pax
Wheels up at seven, down in Düsseldorf at about ten past nine local time, and in the meeting room in Essen before half past ten. The jet and its crew stayed on the ground through the day, a cost shown as its own line in the quote, and the total still beat two separate one-way charters. They left in the late afternoon, well ahead of the terminal closing, and the party sat down to dinner in Kent.
OCTOBER · THE GAMES FAIR
A publisher and forty boxes of samples
London Luton - Düsseldorf, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 10 min · 3 pax
Three people travelled and the cargo was the real passenger. Boxed games and a display stand took the hold far beyond what a light jet carries comfortably, so the quote moved up a class for the luggage and not for the seats. Hotel rooms near the fair were the scarce item, not the aircraft, and the booking went in six weeks ahead.
NOVEMBER · THE MEDICAL FAIR
A delegation for a big week in Düsseldorf
Farnborough - Düsseldorf, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 10 min · 6 pax
The client wanted Düsseldorf because the halls are on that side of the Rhine, and the question we asked first was the time on the apron. We confirmed the arrival slot with the terminal before the price was final. The party stayed in Essen because the hotels by the fair were full, and the car met them at the terminal door.
A DOG ON BOARD · CHRISTMAS MARKETS
Four adults and a spaniel for a December weekend
Southampton - Düsseldorf, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 15 min · 4 pax + dog
Two dates governed the weekend: the certificate had to be issued within ten days of arrival, and the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We lined up the aircraft, a vet near the hotel and a hotel that accepted the spaniel in a single conversation.
FOOTBALL · A MATCH EVENING
Six fans, a stadium and a late return
London Luton - Dortmund, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 10 min · 6 pax
The kick-off was in the evening, so the return was the point of the booking. Dortmund is not open round the clock, so we compared its closing time with the final whistle and the drive back to the aircraft before accepting the date, and set the departure with margin. The party was in the air within the hour after the stadium emptied.
EMPTY LEG · EVENING TO THE LONDON FIELDS
A jet already going your way
Düsseldorf - London City, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 05 min · 3 pax
A jet that had delivered a party for Medica week was returning to London without passengers. The client could leave on any of three days, took the early-evening departure, and paid far less than a fresh one-way charter would have cost.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Essen
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Essen?
About 1 hour 10 minutes from Biggin Hill, London City or Luton, and around 1 hour 15 from Farnborough or Southampton, in a Citation CJ3+ into Düsseldorf, the airport we use for most Essen trips. The sector is 261 to 294 nautical miles from the London fields. From Birmingham or Manchester allow 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 25, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow 1 hour 35 to 1 hour 40. Germany is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands at about ten past nine local time.
2How much does a private jet to Essen cost?
From about £5,300 one way on a light jet out of London City, Biggin Hill or Luton into Düsseldorf. A light jet from Southampton runs £5,400 and from Manchester £6,000, and from Scotland on a midsize Citation XLS+ allow £9,000 to £9,400. The price into Dortmund or Cologne/Bonn is close to the same from London. The big Düsseldorf fair weeks, Medica above all, can price above these figures.
3Is there an airport in Essen that a private jet can use?
Essen/Mülheim (ESS / EDLE) has a 1,553 m runway and limited opening hours, and it is a turboprop and helicopter field, so we do not quote business jets into it. Jets use Düsseldorf (DUS / EDDL), about 25 km from the centre of Essen, Dortmund (DTM / EDLW), about 42 km away, or Cologne/Bonn (CGN / EDDK), about 66 km away.
4Can a private jet land at Düsseldorf at night, and do I need a slot?
The Düsseldorf executive terminal is open daily from 05:30 to 23:00, and the terminal is where the time is agreed, so we confirm the arrival and departure time with the handler before the quote is final. Dortmund is not open round the clock, and Cologne/Bonn does not close, which makes it the fallback for a late arrival or a late return.
5Which airport should I choose for Dortmund football, gamescom or a Düsseldorf fair?
Dortmund Airport for a Borussia Dortmund match, because it is the nearest field to the stadium and saves the drive, provided the closing time suits the return. Cologne/Bonn for gamescom or the carnival. Düsseldorf for the fairs held there, such as Medica in November, boot in January and drupa in May. For Messe Essen events such as SPIEL in October, Düsseldorf is the usual gateway.
6Can I take my dog to Essen on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Germany asks for a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate issued no more than ten days before entry to the EU. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats do not need the treatment.
