Private jet charter in Hannover

From the London fields Hannover is an hour and twenty-five minutes by light jet, near enough for a day return, and the planning that matters starts with the fair calendar and not with the aircraft. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around whichever week you have in mind. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Hannover has a general aviation terminal of its own, a 3,800 m runway, two ground handlers and, a short drive away, an exhibition ground described as the largest in the world, so the real decisions are the dates, the handler and whether the meeting is in Hannover at all or in Wolfsburg an hour to the east.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Hannover depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London City, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Hannover?

An hour and twenty-five minutes from Biggin Hill, London City or Luton in a light jet, an hour and thirty-five minutes from Southampton, Birmingham or Manchester, and an hour and three quarters from Glasgow. Germany keeps Central European time, one hour ahead of Britain, so a departure at seven in the morning lands at about half past nine local time. At 375 to 557 nautical miles this is a short continental sector: a light jet is comfortable for everyone and a heavy aircraft is wasted unless Hannover is only the first leg. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and why the airport suits a fair week

Leave a London airfield at seven and you are on the ground at Hannover at about half past nine, local time, with the general aviation terminal beside the centre runway. The airport lies about 11 km north of the city centre. The airport lists the S-Bahn line S5 at about twenty minutes to the main station and a taxi at about thirty, and in the big fair weeks an extra line, the S8, runs hourly to the exhibition grounds. Passengers of a private flight go by car, and the trains matter mainly to colleagues who arrive separately. Add the drive to the British airfield and central London to central Hannover comes to roughly three and a half hours.

Light jet or midsize: the question that comes up on this route

– Up to about four people with ordinary bags, a light jet is the right answer and the saving over a midsize cabin is real. An hour and twenty-five minutes in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is comfortable, and the main runway of 3,800 m never limits a light aircraft here;

– Past that, or with stand materials, product samples, a dog, or a team that wants to work in the air, we quote a midsize jet alongside it so you see both figures. The Scottish departures stretch to an hour and forty or more, and a midsize cabin is worth having at that length;

– Heavy aircraft make sense only when Hannover is the first leg of something longer, to the Gulf or beyond. For a long-range departure at full fuel this is one of the better German fields, because the 3,800 m runway is longer than any runway at Hamburg or Bremen.

Private jet flights from Hannover

Hannover is a good place to start a northern German loop, and a poor one for a hop to the nearest neighbour. The Braunschweig-Wolfsburg airfield is 34 nautical miles away and Bremen 50, distances a car often beats, and we say so when it is the wrong tool. Where a jet earns its place is the fair week with two cities in it, the trip on to Berlin, Frankfurt or Amsterdam, and the continuation to Paris, Munich or the Gulf. Typical one-way prices:

Why a short hop costs as much as a longer one

Every sector has a floor under it: the crew, the landing and handling charges at both ends, and the empty positioning of the aircraft all cost the same whether the flight takes ten minutes or forty. That is why Bremen at 50 nautical miles and Hamburg at 74 are priced alike, and why Berlin at 146 and Amsterdam at 188 are priced alike too. The short hop that does make sense is the turboprop one: a Pilatus PC-12 to Braunschweig-Wolfsburg at 34 nautical miles is the least expensive row in the table, and it puts you at the field Volkswagen itself uses for its air services.

Before you accept an onward quote

– Which airfield, and what it will take. Braunschweig-Wolfsburg has a 2,300 m runway and limited opening hours, and Paderborn/Lippstadt a 2,180 m runway, so a light or midsize jet is comfortable there, while a heavy long-range aircraft is checked case by case. We confirm hours, customs and access in writing before the price is final;

– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Hannover to Berlin to Frankfurt over three days costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you and do not return to base between legs. For the fair weeks, book the second leg while you book the first.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h
Long-haul jet (Global 5000, G550, Falcon 7X)£5,800 - 8,800/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Hannover:

Light jets, and where most bookings land

At an hour and twenty-five from London this is the sensible class for four or five people with ordinary luggage. Nothing here lacks range for Hannover, so the money goes on the departure time and not on capability you will not use.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for stand kit and a long day

Exhibition stands, product samples and a team with laptops that wants to work on the way are what push a party past the light-jet hold, and so is a departure from Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a delegation travelling as one party, for a team that needs to work in the air, and for trips that carry on from Hannover to the Gulf or further instead of turning round. The 3,800 m runway removes any doubt about a heavy departure.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the short German hops: Braunschweig-Wolfsburg is a few minutes in the air, and the saving over a jet on that distance is large. A turboprop is also the sensible choice for a series of short legs.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: the Wolfsburg car works, the half-timbered towns nearby and the Harz hills to the south-east. A site where a helicopter may put down is agreed before the quote.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Hannover sits between the Hamburg and Bremen fleets to the north, the Berlin fleet to the east and the Rhine-Ruhr and Frankfurt fleets to the west and south, so outside a fair week there is often an aircraft within an hour of the airport, and that is where the better price usually comes from. In a fair week the same aircraft are spoken for early, which is the reason to ask early.

Business aviation airports in Hannover

One airport does nearly all of the work, and it does it from its own general aviation terminal. The other fields matter for particular reasons, and it helps to know them before a quote arrives with one of them in it.

Airport What it gives you
Hannover Airport, Langenhagen
HAJ / EDDV
The answer for almost every trip. It lies about 11 km north of the city centre and is open round the clock, with a 3,800 m main runway, a 2,340 m second runway and a short 780 m strip between them. Business aviation has its own building, the Karl Jatho Terminal, with two handlers, Aviation Handling Services and AviaPartner, Jet A-1 from the airport fuel agent, catering from LSG Sky Chefs, and the Federal Police and customs on site. The hangar halls beside it belong to maintenance companies and are not storage you can book for a visiting jet
Braunschweig-Wolfsburg
BWE / EDVE
The Volkswagen field and the best second option when the day is at the plant, roughly 60 km east-south-east of Hannover in a straight line. A 2,300 m by 30 m asphalt runway, an instrument approach, and no scheduled passenger service at all: it handles business jets and general aviation, and Volkswagen Air Services is based here. A listing shows customs available and opening hours that are limited, with prior permission needed outside them, so we confirm both for the day. The right choice when the meeting is in Wolfsburg or Braunschweig
Paderborn/Lippstadt
PAD / EDLP
About 120 km south-west of Hannover in a straight line, near Büren and some 18 km from Paderborn itself. A 2,180 m runway and a general aviation terminal with a departure lounge for passengers and crews of business flights. It is a fallback for a trip to Westphalia rather than a rival to Hannover
Bremen
BRE / EDDW
About 90 km north-west in a straight line, with a main runway of about 2,040 m, general aviation hours of 06:00 to 22:00 and a night restriction in the late evening. Useful when the day is really in Bremen, or when a Hannover fair week has used up the apron
Hamburg
HAM / EDDH
About 130 km to the north in a straight line, with runways of 3,250 m and 3,666 m. The big-runway alternative for a heavy long-range departure and the right airport if half the trip is in Hamburg
Hildesheim and Celle
EDVM, and the Celle Air Base
Not alternatives for a charter. Hildesheim has a small airfield on the edge of the town, and Celle Air Base is used by the Army Aviation School for helicopter pilot training. Both towns are day trips from Hannover by road, and a helicopter does either in about ten minutes

Four points settle most Hannover arrivals:

Choose the handler

The terminal lists two handling agents, Aviation Handling Services and AviaPartner, and the choice usually follows the operator. Fuel is Jet A-1 from the airport fuel agent at the terminal, normally available from seven in the morning until eight in the evening, with a surcharge for an urgent uplift between ten at night and half past five. Catering comes from LSG Sky Chefs. We name the handler in the quote, so the driver knows which door to wait at.

Hours, slots and noise

The airport itself is open round the clock, but the general aviation terminal is staffed from 06:00 to 22:00 and later hours are an extra that must be asked for. The terminal says no slot request is needed, and a commercial flight is announced to it by email in advance, which we do. At night a state rule has restricted especially loud aircraft types between 23:00 and 06:00, and we confirm its current form, so an older jet is checked against it first. In fair weeks the apron fills.

Border and passport

Britain is outside Schengen, so an arrival at Hannover is an external border. The Federal Police start entry control for the whole crew and passengers as soon as the aircraft is on its blocks, and the pilot hands in the general declaration beforehand. On departure it is due at least 60 minutes before the planned time, and passengers must be ready for border control 30 minutes before. British passport holders need no visa for a short trip of up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport under ten years old and valid three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints.

Car, rail and fair days

Give us the pickup point and not only the airport. The exhibition grounds and the airport lie on opposite sides of the city, so allow extra time on the opening day of a major fair. Tell us the stand number or the hall and the hotel when you book, and we plan the car and the drop-off before the quote, not on the morning.

business aviation

Border, passport and the Wolfsburg question

Land where the meeting is. The arrival formalities are done at the first German airport you reach, and the roads between Hannover, Wolfsburg and Braunschweig lie inside the Schengen area with no border control on the way. If the day is at the Volkswagen plant, Braunschweig-Wolfsburg saves the drive, provided the hours and the customs cover for your date are confirmed in writing. For the return to Britain a General Aviation Report is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and a guest who does not hold a British or Irish passport usually needs a UK electronic travel authorisation or a visa for the flight home.

From the apron to the Altstadt

Hannover is the capital of Lower Saxony, a city of about 520,000 people that is easy to cross by car. The New Town Hall, whose dome has an inclined lift, the Old Town, the Maschsee and the Baroque gardens at Herrenhausen sit in the same loose circle round the centre. The distances that matter run outward, to the exhibition grounds, to Wolfsburg, and to the old towns of Hildesheim and Celle.

Flying to Hannover with a dog or a cat

Germany asks for a little more paperwork than the flight takes, and the flight is short enough that most animals sleep through it. The animal sits beside you in the cabin with no hold involved. What matters is the date on the certificate, which has a ten-day life for entry from the day it is issued.

private flight with animals

What Germany asks for:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time, never after it;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before entry;
  • An Animal Health Certificate from an Official Veterinarian, issued within ten days of entry to the EU and valid for the return to Britain as stated on the certificate. A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales cannot be used for entry;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, presented to customs on arrival, and the customs office is at the airport;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before the return flight to Britain, recorded with product, date and time. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Hannover run

– Germany asks for no tapeworm treatment on the way in, only before the way home, so it is a vet appointment you book in Hannover, towards the end of the stay, and not something you do before leaving. On a fair-week trip of two nights the window is tight, so we fix the appointment before the flight is booked;

– The certificate has to be a fresh one for every trip. On the return the dog also needs the pet travel document and declaration that Britain requires;

– A dog on a Christmas market weekend is an ordinary booking. A hotel has to accept the animal, and a helicopter operator has to agree to it separately, so settle both before the quote and not after it.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For a private flight with an animal into Britain we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight, and our managers confirm the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Hannover calendar: a trade fair city with a long summer

Hannover keeps a sharper rhythm than a resort. The exhibition grounds are described as the largest exhibition centre in the world. They hosted a world exposition that left behind the EXPO Plaza, the EXPO gardens and a roof said to be the largest wooden roof anywhere, and the fair calendar sets the price of a hotel room and of an aircraft far more than the weather does. Around it sit a marksmen's festival in summer, a lake festival and the Christmas markets. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

January
Domotex, the flooring and carpet fair, opens the fair year on the exhibition grounds
Every second March
A defence and security show that is held in Hannover every two years. Delegation travel has its own protocol, so we ask early which handler and which terminal door the party will use
April
Hannover Messe, the industrial technology fair that has run since the late 1940s and usually draws 100,000 to 200,000 visitors. The computer fair CeBIT, which once filled the same grounds in spring, was discontinued, and the digital themes now sit inside Hannover Messe. This is the best known week of the Hannover year, and the one to plan furthest ahead
May
Ligna, the woodworking fair, comes every second year. The International Fireworks Competition begins in the Herrenhausen gardens and runs, with dates in each month, until September
Late June to early July
The Schützenfest, the marksmen's fair, with a procession some 12 km long and more than a million visitors to the fairground by the Maschsee. A leisure peak rather than a corporate one
July and August
The Kleines Fest im Grossen Garten in July, then the Maschsee Festival from late July to mid-August, which draws about two million visitors round the lake. Leisure events, not fairs, set the pace in these weeks
September, in even years
IAA Transportation, the commercial vehicle show, takes over the grounds in September every second year. A large international crowd arrives at once, and the airport and the hotels fill together
October
The Infa public fair and Euroblech, the sheet-metal working fair, fall in October
November
EuroTier and Agritechnica, the livestock and agricultural machinery shows, alternate in November: EuroTier in even years and Agritechnica in odd ones. Farm buyers arrive from across Europe, and the fair days book up early
Late November to December
The Christmas markets in the Old Town and round the city centre. Weekend city breaks by air, mostly small parties, sometimes with a dog

Why a fair week costs more

Not the flying. The northern German light and midsize fleet is large and Hannover is well placed in it. What gets tight in a major fair week is hotel rooms, cars, the apron at the airport and, because the terminal is staffed only until 22:00, the evening departure. A booking made a fortnight before the Hannover Messe or Agritechnica can still be done, but it costs more and leaves less choice of departure time. Made five or six weeks earlier, the same booking is simpler. Outside those weeks a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Hannover price down

  • Move the dates a few days where you can. The week after a major fair is calm, and so are the weeks between Christmas and the January fair;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin or Amsterdam needs less positioning than one from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a meaningful share of the bill;
  • Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people and four bags do not need a midsize, and the money saved buys the car and the hotel.

Types of flights

Hannover produces a different mix from a resort or a capital, because the city is a fair city first, a state capital second, and the doorstep of the Volkswagen towns and the Harz as well.

  • Trade fair travel. Exhibitors, buyers and stand teams, with fixed dates, heavy luggage and a short window on the ground. Same-day returns are normal, and a midsize cabin is often chosen for the stand material;
  • Volkswagen and the supply chain. The Volkswagen headquarters and a major plant are in Wolfsburg, 75 km east, and the Autostadt next to the factory draws roughly two million visitors a year. Business parties land at Hannover or at Braunschweig-Wolfsburg depending on where the first meeting is;
  • State and university business. Hannover is the capital of Lower Saxony, with the state government and Leibniz University in the city;
  • Culture and heritage weekends. Hildesheim's cathedral and St Michael's church, the half-timbered streets of Celle, the Herrenhausen gardens, and the Harz with the Brocken and the Rammelsberg mine at Goslar;
  • Festival and market weekends, from the marksmen's fair and the Maschsee Festival in summer to the Christmas markets.

The day trip is worth a closer look. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it can still come out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. Leaving at seven and coming back by early evening gives you a full working day in Hannover and a bed in your own house. The clock matters here: the terminal is staffed until 22:00 and the border check at departure needs time, so we build the return to leave well before that, and on this route we quote it both ways so the difference is visible.

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Hannover is a corridor that produces them in bursts, tied to the fair calendar, and it helps to know what creates them.

Where Hannover empty legs come from

– Fair weeks. Aircraft bring exhibitors and delegations in for the Hannover Messe, IAA Transportation or Agritechnica, and many leave empty a day or two later. The evening legs towards Britain at the end of a fair tend to be the ones offered;

– Neighbouring hubs. Hamburg, Bremen and Berlin are close, and aircraft finishing a job there pass through Hannover or return to Britain empty;

– The summer events. The Schützenfest and the Maschsee Festival bring weekend parties in, and the aircraft go home without them.

Because the corridor depends on the fair calendar, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Hannover match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Hannover a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and not the middle. The city is easy to cross by car, and the places where rotary flight changes the day are Wolfsburg, the old towns of Celle and Hildesheim, and the hills of the Harz. The times below are flying times at a typical cruise speed, for comparison with the road.

Hannover to Wolfsburg

the Volkswagen headquarters and the Autostadt, 75 km east, against about 55 minutes by road
about 20 minutes
Hannover to Celle

the half-timbered old town to the north-east, against about 40 minutes by road
about 10 minutes
Hannover to Hildesheim

the cathedral town to the south-east, against about half an hour by road
about 10 minutes
Hannover to Goslar

the edge of the Harz and the Rammelsberg mine, against about an hour by road
about 20 minutes
Hannover to the Brocken

the highest summit of the Harz, about 1,141 m, for a scenic flight in clear weather
about 25 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. Outside an aerodrome a landing site normally needs approval, which means a factory forecourt, a hotel lawn or a private estate has to be confirmed before we quote and not after;

– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud on the Harz can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a hill transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– Twin-engine machines are the sensible minimum on any route across high ground. In a major fair week, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for light passenger work, the wider H130 for scenic and estate transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Hannover charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK

A morning of meetings and home for dinner

Biggin Hill - Hannover and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 25 min each way · 4 pax

Wheels up at seven, on the ground at Hannover at about half past nine local time and in the meeting by eleven. The aircraft and crew waited at the general aviation terminal rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and can still come in below two separate one-way charters. The return left in the late afternoon, well before the terminal closed at ten, and the party was back in Kent for dinner.

APRIL · THE INDUSTRIAL FAIR

A stand team and a crate of samples

London Luton - Hannover, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 25 min · 3 pax

The dates were set by the fair and not by the client. Three people, a roll-up stand and a box of product samples took the hold well beyond what a light jet carries comfortably, so the quote moved up a class for the luggage, not for the seats. Hotels and cars were the scarce item that week, and the aircraft was the easy part. The booking went in six weeks ahead.

WOLFSBURG · THE AIRFIELD THAT WAS CLOSER

A delegation and a plant visit

Farnborough - Hannover, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 25 min · 6 pax

The meeting was at the Volkswagen plant, and the client asked for Hannover because it is the name everyone knows. We compared it with Braunschweig-Wolfsburg, where the runway is 2,300 m and the hours are limited, confirmed customs cover and access in writing, and landed there. The drive to the plant was short, and the cost was a single question asked before the quote.

CHRISTMAS MARKET · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a spaniel for a December weekend

Southampton - Hannover, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 35 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Hannover for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the hotel took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in a single exchange of messages rather than three.

NOVEMBER · THE FARMING SHOW

Buyers for the agricultural machinery fair

Manchester - Hannover, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 35 min · 5 pax

Farm machinery buyers wanted two nights and a Friday return. The Friday departure was the pressure point, because everyone leaves the fair at once, so we booked the late-afternoon departure with the outbound and confirmed the handler and the passport check in advance. The party was away before the Friday rush.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST

A jet already going your way

Hannover - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 20 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for a fair weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for an early-evening departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Hannover

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Hannover?

About 1 hour 25 minutes from Biggin Hill, London City or Luton, and around 1 hour 30 from Farnborough, in a Citation CJ3+, covering roughly 375 to 410 nautical miles. From Southampton or Manchester allow about 1 hour 35, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 1 hour 40 to 1 hour 45. Hannover is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands at about half past nine local time.

2How much does a private jet to Hannover cost?

From about £6,050 one way on a light jet out of London City, £6,100 from Biggin Hill and £6,200 from Luton. A light jet from Southampton or Manchester runs £6,800 to £7,000, and from Scotland on a midsize Citation XLS+ allow £9,700 to £10,200. The big fair weeks in April, September and November can price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Hannover?

Hannover Airport (HAJ / EDDV) for almost every trip. It is about 11 km north of the centre, open round the clock, with a 3,800 m main runway, its own general aviation terminal, two handlers and the Federal Police and customs on site. Braunschweig-Wolfsburg (BWE / EDVE), roughly 60 km away, is the alternative when the meeting is at Volkswagen, and Bremen, Hamburg and Paderborn/Lippstadt are fallbacks.

4Can a private jet land at Hannover at night, and do I need a slot?

The airport is open round the clock, but the general aviation terminal is staffed from 06:00 to 22:00 and extended hours must be requested. The terminal says no slot request is needed, and a commercial flight is announced to it in advance. At night especially loud aircraft types have been restricted between 23:00 and 06:00, so an older jet is checked first, and in fair weeks the apron fills.

5Can I fly on from Hannover to Wolfsburg, Hildesheim, Celle or the Harz?

Yes. Wolfsburg is 75 km east and takes about 55 minutes by road, or about 20 minutes by helicopter, and Braunschweig-Wolfsburg is the airfield to use for a jet. Hildesheim and Celle are about 30 and 40 minutes by road from the city centre, and the Harz town of Goslar is about an hour. A helicopter site is agreed before the quote.

6Can I take my dog to Hannover on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Germany asks for a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate issued within ten days of entry to the EU. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
