Private jet charter in Myanmar

Between London and Yangon lie about five thousand nautical miles, one technical stop for most cabins and a permit process that can take longer than the flight itself. The country is called Myanmar in its own documents and Burma in much British usage, and the Foreign Office heads its advice with both names. This page uses Myanmar and says plainly what a charter can do there and what it cannot. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Myanmar that means an honest reading of the official advice before any quote, and careful planning of the part of the journey we can do well.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter to Myanmar depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Biggin Hill, a Bombardier Challenger 605 to Yangon with one technical stop in Dubai and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

What a charter to Myanmar can and cannot do

A private jet can reach Myanmar. Yangon, the capital Naypyidaw and Mandalay are international airports with long runways, listed customs and a handler on file. What decides a booking is not the aircraft but three other things: the advice that the British government gives about where to go, the notices that aviation authorities publish about the airspace, and the permits that Myanmar itself requires.

What the published advice says

– The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to parts of Myanmar (Burma) and against all but essential travel to others. It describes the conflict as increasingly volatile and says the security situation may deteriorate at short notice. It adds that the military authorities can impose travel restrictions at any time and that some areas are under martial law or curfew;

– The advice against all travel covers Chin, Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Mon and Rakhine States, Sagaing and Magway regions, northern Shan State, most of Tanintharyi Region, the townships north of Mandalay city and part of Bago Region. The advice against all but essential travel covers southern and eastern Shan State, Mandalay Region, the rest of Bago Region and several townships of Ayeyarwady Region;

– Neither Yangon Region nor the capital territory around Naypyidaw appears on either list. Mandalay Region does, under the advice against all but essential travel, so a flight to Mandalay airport is a different decision from a flight to Yangon;

– Travel insurance can be invalidated if you travel against the advice, and Myanmar does not recognise dual nationality, which can limit British consular help.

What the aviation notices say about the airspace

– The United Kingdom's aeronautical information publication asks operators to take into account the risk from anti-aircraft weaponry below 25,000 feet above ground level in the Yangon flight information region (VYYF);

– The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has issued an information note asking operators to take the risk into account in their assessment and routing below flight level 260 over Myanmar;

– Other states are firmer. Summaries of their notices show France asking operators to stay at or above flight level 260 in the region and to name only Yangon as an alternate, and Canada asking for the same level. Italy asks operators to avoid heights below 25,000 feet above ground level;

– None of these notices closes the airspace, and all of them concern the lower levels, which are the levels a landing passes through.

The notices are written for operators, and the operator's own safety department makes the final call on routing, alternates and fuel. We read the Foreign Office page and the notices again at every enquiry, so a quote follows the position as published on that day.

Yangon International
the main gateway, with a long runway, listed customs and a handler on file, and the only Myanmar airport named as an alternate in the French notice
quoted
Naypyidaw International
the capital's airport; the territory around it is not on the Foreign Office lists
quoted on request
Mandalay International
in a region where the Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel; a decision for the passenger and the insurer
case by case
Bagan, Inle Lake, Ngapali and other airfields
domestic airfields that foreign charters may use only with special permission; several lie in regions on the Foreign Office lists
not arranged

If your plans take you to a region the Foreign Office advises against, that is a decision for you and your insurer. Our part is to fly you to a gateway that works, with permits, handling and ground transport settled before departure.

One more check belongs in every file. The United Kingdom has designated individuals and entities connected with the military authorities under its sanctions regulations, and the military's holding companies and their subsidiaries are among them. A charter pays for landing, handling, fuel and permits, so every payee is screened against the UK lists before money moves.

How long does it take to fly to Myanmar?

The planned distance from London Biggin Hill to Yangon is about 5,032 nautical miles, and most cabins cannot cover it in one leg with a safe reserve. Myanmar keeps one time zone, six and a half hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, so the clock moves a long way during the flight. These are the sectors from London Biggin Hill on the lowest-priced aircraft that flies each, gate to gate:

London to Yangon
5,489 nautical miles planned, the main gateway, flown with one technical stop in Dubai on a Challenger 605
about 13 h 35 min
London to Naypyidaw
5,441 nautical miles planned, the capital, with the same stop in Dubai
about 13 h 25 min
London to Bangkok Don Mueang
5,807 nautical miles planned, the hub for a scheduled hop to Yangon, also with a stop in Dubai
about 14 h 15 min

Why most flights stop in Dubai

We plan every leg at no more than about 85 percent of the published range. A Challenger 605, rated at 4,000 nautical miles, keeps its longer leg of 3,067 nautical miles to Dubai inside that limit and flies the remaining 2,422 on to Yangon. A Falcon 900LX or a Gulfstream G450 flies the same plan for more money.

A Gulfstream G550, a Gulfstream G650ER or a Global 7500 flies London to Yangon without landing in about 10 h 25 min to 10 h 35 min, and a Global 6000 just fits inside its planning range. A headwind or a full cabin can still put a stop back into the plan on the day. Overflight permits for the states on the track are filed together with the landing permit.

The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

What these figures leave out

– The aircraft moves the price more than the airfield you leave from. From London Biggin Hill a Challenger 605 reaches Yangon for about £109,150, and a Global 6000 or a Gulfstream G550 flies the same sector without landing for about £135,950 to £142,300. Yangon anchors this page because it is the main gateway;

– Landing and handling charges, permits, the sponsor's fee, navigation charges and fuel are quoted on top. The figures are one-way and include the empty flight home.

The airport you choose changes the price less than you expect

Naypyidaw and Mandalay are a little closer to London than Yangon, so they cost a little less: a Challenger 605 from London Luton to Naypyidaw is about £108,650, against about £109,550 to Yangon. The saving is small, and the extra permit work and the Foreign Office position on Mandalay Region outweigh it. Bangkok Don Mueang is further, at about £115,300 from Biggin Hill on the same aircraft, but scheduled flights run from there to Yangon.

Some parties split the journey. Bangkok Don Mueang to Yangon is 328 nautical miles, Yangon to the capital 170, Yangon to Mandalay 300. The figures show the scale of each hop and are not a firm price:

Myanmar keeps domestic airports for domestic flights and allows an international private flight to land there only with special permission. Whether the aircraft that brings you from Britain may also carry you between two cities is confirmed in writing for each trip.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

Business aviation airports for Myanmar: Yangon, Naypyidaw and Mandalay

A foreign aircraft may land only at the airports named in its permit. The first three rows are the Myanmar airports we plan to; Bangkok is the neighbouring gateway:

Airport Ground How it operates
Yangon International
RGN / VYYY
north of the city in Mingaladon township, listed at 15 to 18 km, at 110 feet above sea level One runway, 03/21, of 11,201 feet (3,414 metres). The tower is listed as open 24 hours, the airport is an airport of entry with customs, and the administration office is listed Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30 local time. MJETS Myanmar is listed as the flight support company, based in a hangar of Myanmar National Airlines, with Asia Flight Services as a supervising agent. Jet fuel is listed, and an older operators' bulletin reported difficulty with uplift, so fuel is confirmed with the handler before a quote. Our price is built on this airport
Naypyidaw International
NYT / VYNT
listed about 20 km from the capital, at 295 feet above sea level One concrete runway, 16/34, of 11,998 feet (about 3,660 metres). Hours are listed as H24, with customs and airport-of-entry status, and MJETS Myanmar is listed here too. One flight support company names no business jets among the types it supports, so we ask before we promise
Mandalay International
MDL / VYMD
listed about 30 km south-west of Mandalay, at 300 feet above sea level One runway, 17/35, of about 14,000 feet (about 4,270 metres), with the tower, customs and immigration listed as open 24 hours and ILS and VOR/DME approaches. MJETS Myanmar is listed. A handler states that a landing permit and a parking slot are both mandatory. The airport sits in Mandalay Region, where the Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel
Bangkok Don Mueang
DMK / VTBD
north of central Bangkok Two runways, 03L/21R of 3,700 metres and 03R/21L of 3,500 metres, all services round the clock. Mjets operates a private terminal with a VIP lounge, customs, immigration and security, and AOT Ground Aviation Services is the other handler listed. Thailand needs its own landing permit, so Bangkok is a second permit file
Bagan (Nyaung U), Inle Lake (Heho), Ngapali (Thandwe)
domestic airfields
tourist destinations reached by domestic flights Named because clients ask. A foreign charter may land at a domestic airfield only with special permission requested at least two weeks ahead. We have not verified handling or fuel at any of them and do not quote sectors to them

Permits take weeks, not days

The aeronautical information publication we could open lists seven days for a private landing at Yangon and fourteen days for other airports, with seven days for an overflight, and asks for a local sponsor's name and address and the names and nationalities of the passengers. An operators' bulletin quotes five days for a landing and three for an overflight. Handlers describe a landing permit as valid for 24 hours. We plan on at least two weeks.

Fees and documents go through the handler

Navigation fees are paid in advance, usually through an agent, and every invoice is checked against the UK sanctions lists. A general declaration and a passenger manifest are filed in the standard international format.

Entering Myanmar and coming home: visas, health and what to carry

The Foreign Office entry page applies to British citizens on a full British passport:

Visa
A visa is needed before travel, and visas on arrival are not available. Tourists can apply for an e-visa online. A business e-visa needs sponsorship from a registered Myanmar company or chamber of commerce, a personal invitation letter and the company's registration certificate
before departure
Passport
The passport must be valid for at least six months after the day of arrival
every passenger
Health
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you arrive from a country listed as a transmission risk. Check TravelHealthPro for the medical entry advice
if it applies
Customs and cash
Rules on goods are strict, and gold, gems and jewellery are declared on arrival, as is foreign currency above 10,000 US dollars. Many ATMs do not take UK cards. Visa fines and excess baggage fees on departure are paid in US dollars, in notes in good condition
at the airport

The sponsor named in the landing permit and the sponsor behind a business visa are separate documents, and each takes time. Drones are best left at home: the Foreign Office warns that people using drones may be seen as linked to groups in the conflict.

Coming home is a flight into Britain: a General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation for Britain. The first landing must be at an aerodrome that is regulated for customs, since a landing at an unregulated one carries a fine of £2,500.

Seasons and local holidays

The weather matters for comfort on the ground more than for the flight, and Yangon shows the pattern clearly:

March to May
Hot and humid. April is the hottest month in Yangon, with highs near 37 degrees Celsius
hot season
June to September
The monsoon. Sunshine falls to four or five hours a day, highs settle near 30 degrees Celsius and August is the wettest month, with about 624 mm of rain on average
monsoon
November to February
The dry season, with the sunniest days. January, November and December are rated the best months for warm, sunny weather
dry season
Mid-April
Thingyan, the water festival that marks the Myanmar New Year, runs from about 13 to 16 April and usually lasts four or five days. Permits and handling are requested well before it

Flying to Myanmar with a dog or a cat

We advise against taking an animal to Myanmar for anything but a long stay, and the reason is the quarantine. The published guidance is general and partly drawn from relocation sites, so we confirm the details with the Myanmar authorities for your dates.

What Myanmar is reported to ask for

Dogs and cats travelling with their owner are reported not to need an import permit, and a microchip is recommended. The rabies vaccination is expected between 30 days and 12 months before arrival, with a veterinary health certificate issued just before travel and endorsed by the British authority.

Pets are reported to enter through Yangon International Airport with the owner present. A minimum of 30 days in quarantine at an approved facility is reported, at the owner's cost, and some breeds, including pit bulls, are restricted.

Myanmar is not on the list of countries from which Britain accepts a pet on simpler terms. A dog or a cat coming back needs a Great Britain pet health certificate and a rabies blood test taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, with a result of 0.5 IU/ml or higher, followed by a wait of three months from the sample date. A dog also needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival, and an animal that does not meet the rules can be quarantined for up to four months.

Other destinations, and the general rules for travelling with an animal on a private jet, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a flight the operator has to make anyway, with the cabin vacant, and so it is priced low rather than flown for nothing. To a destination this far away the saving is large, and so is the catch.

Why empty legs to Myanmar are scarce

– Few aircraft fly to Yangon and wait. Most deliver a party and return to a base in the Gulf or in Europe, so a free sector is rare;

– A permit goes with the date and the airport, so a leg that moves by a day can mean a revised permit.

Clients who offer a week instead of a day match most often. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. Selected empty legs follow, at roughly 40 percent of a fresh charter:

Route Aircraft Capacity Whole aircraft
Dubai - UK (London Luton) Falcon 900LX 12 seats £32,700
UK (London Biggin Hill) - Yangon Challenger 605 12 seats £45,850
Yangon - UK (London Luton) Challenger 605 12 seats £46,000
UK (Birmingham) - Bangkok Challenger 605 12 seats £49,100
Naypyidaw - UK (London Farnborough) Global 6000 13 seats £56,000
Bangkok - UK (Manchester) Falcon 900LX 12 seats £61,200
UK (Edinburgh) - Yangon Gulfstream G650ER 14 seats £67,850

The price covers the whole aircraft, not a seat: a Falcon 900LX from Bangkok to Manchester with six aboard comes to about £10,200 a head.

Charters to Myanmar from the booking notes: six typical trips

The six trips below are typical jobs assembled from booking notes with the details changed, so none of them is one named client or one date.

YANGON · THE STANDARD ROUTE

Two engineers with a sponsor on the ground

London Biggin Hill - Yangon, Challenger 605 via Dubai, about 13 h 35 min · 2 pax

The sponsor's letter and the passenger names were ready before the permit was filed, which is the order that saves days. The stop in Dubai added about three hours against a nonstop cabin and saved a good deal of money.

BANGKOK · THE HUB ROUTE

A client who preferred a scheduled hop for the last stretch

London Biggin Hill - Bangkok Don Mueang, Challenger 605 via Dubai, about 14 h 15 min · 3 pax

He flew with us to Don Mueang, slept in Bangkok and took a scheduled flight to Yangon the next morning, booked by himself.

NAYPYIDAW · A TRADE VISIT

A small party with a meeting in the capital

London Luton - Naypyidaw, Falcon 900LX via Dubai, about 13 h 30 min · 6 pax

Before the quote we screened every payee against the UK sanctions lists. The permit asked for the sponsor's address and the nationality of each passenger.

YANGON · A LONG CABIN

A family visit with a flat bed for the whole sector

Edinburgh - Yangon, Gulfstream G650ER nonstop, about 10 h 30 min · 5 pax

The Gulfstream G650ER flew the sector without landing, and the cabin was chosen for the bed rather than for speed.

A REQUEST FOR BAGAN AND INLE

A client who asked for an onward charter to the tourist sites

London to Yangon, then the client's own arrangements · 2 pax

We explained the Foreign Office position on Mandalay Region and southern Shan State and said plainly that we do not arrange onward domestic charters. The client flew with us to Yangon and decided there, on their own insurance and responsibility.

EMPTY LEG · HOMEWARD FROM YANGON

Frequently asked questions about flying to Myanmar

1Can a private jet fly from the UK to Myanmar?

Yes, to the international airports. Yangon is the main gateway, with Naypyidaw and Mandalay also listed, and each flight needs a landing permit and a local sponsor. The Foreign Office advises against all travel to parts of the country, and we do not arrange flights to the regions it names.

2What does the Foreign Office say about travel to Myanmar?

It advises against all travel to parts of Myanmar (Burma) and against all but essential travel to other parts, including Mandalay Region. It describes the conflict as increasingly volatile. Neither Yangon Region nor the area around Naypyidaw appears on its lists, and travel insurance can be invalidated if you travel against its advice.

3What do the aviation authorities say about Myanmar airspace?

The United Kingdom asks operators to take into account the risk from anti-aircraft weaponry below 25,000 feet above ground level, and the European safety agency asks them to do so below flight level 260. France and Canada ask for flight level 260 or above. None of the notices closes the airspace.

4How much does a private jet to Myanmar cost?

From about £109,150 one way from London Biggin Hill to Yangon on a Challenger 605, with a technical stop in Dubai. A Gulfstream G550 flies it without landing for about £142,300. Handling, permits and airport charges are quoted on top.

5How long does the flight take?

About 13 hours 35 minutes from London Biggin Hill to Yangon in a Challenger 605 including the stop in Dubai, and about 10 hours 35 minutes nonstop in a Gulfstream G550. Myanmar keeps a time zone six and a half hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

6Do British passengers need a visa for a private flight to Myanmar?

Yes. A visa is needed before travel and none is issued on arrival. Tourists can apply for an e-visa online, while a business e-visa needs a registered Myanmar sponsor and an invitation letter. The passport must be valid for six months after arrival.

7Can my dog or cat travel with me to Myanmar?

It is possible but we advise against it. Published guidance reports a minimum of 30 days in quarantine on arrival at Yangon. Coming home, Myanmar is not on the list of countries Britain accepts on simpler terms, so a rabies blood test and a three-month wait are needed. We confirm the paperwork in writing before the flight.
