Private jet charter in Saint Tropez

A flight from London reaches the Gulf of Saint-Tropez in under two hours, and the question that matters is where the wheels touch down, because the village has no airport of its own and the nearest runway is short, flown in daylight only and tied to a seasonal border arrangement. Private Jets UK builds the charter around the answer. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. La Môle-Saint-Tropez airport, about 15 km from the village, has one asphalt runway of 1,071 m by 30 m, and flights from outside the Schengen area may land there only in a window published as 1 July to 15 October, which we check for the date of the flight. For the rest of the year, and for anyone who wants a longer runway, the real choices are Toulon-Hyères, Nice or Cannes-Mandelieu, followed by a helicopter or a car.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Saint-Tropez depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Saint-Tropez?

About an hour and three quarters from Biggin Hill in a light jet, about two and a half hours from Edinburgh or Glasgow, and one hour of clock difference to add on arrival, because France keeps Central European time. At 576 to 903 nautical miles from the British fields we use, the Gulf of Saint-Tropez is a medium sector from the south of England and a long one from Scotland. The table gives the flight from each field to the airport we would normally choose for that aircraft: La Môle for the light jets and Toulon-Hyères for the midsize cabins.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave Biggin Hill at eight and you are on the ground at La Môle at about a quarter to eleven local time, because France is an hour ahead. The airfield lies roughly 15 km from the village, an easy drive off season and a slow one in August, so lunch at the port is realistic on the day you fly but not guaranteed to the minute. The airfield works from 08:00 to 19:00 local time in summer and from 09:00 to 17:00 in winter, with extensions to sunset on request, and there is no night flying, so the way home has to be planned around the light.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to four or five people with ordinary bags, take a light jet to La Môle. It is the natural fit for a runway of 1,071 m, and a CJ3+ or a Phenom is no hardship for an hour and three quarters;

– Six or more, or a hold full of golf clubs, paddle boards and a week of luggage for a villa, we quote a midsize jet to Toulon-Hyères alongside it, because the runway there is 2,120 m and the extra cabin does not depend on a short-field approval. The drive from Toulon is the price of the bigger aircraft;

– A large-cabin jet is a Nice booking. The airport has two parallel runways of 2,570 m and 2,960 m and a dedicated business aviation terminal, and from there a helicopter reaches Saint-Tropez in about twenty minutes.

Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first. The light jets are priced into La Môle and the midsize cabins into Toulon-Hyères, the airport we would use for them. July, August, the week of the Cannes Film Festival and the regatta weeks sit above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Private jet flights from Saint-Tropez

Saint-Tropez is a base for short summer hops to the islands and along the coast more than for long sectors. Figari in southern Corsica is about 55 minutes in a turboprop, Olbia on the Costa Smeralda is about 50 minutes in a light jet, and Paris Le Bourget is an ordinary light-jet distance. Nice is a quarter of an hour away in the air, a hop that makes sense only to reposition an aircraft after it has cleared the border. Typical one-way prices:

Onward from Saint-Tropez: when the aircraft wins and when the car does

Nice is 44 nautical miles away on the chart and about 95 km by road, and in July and August that road is the slowest part of any Riviera journey, so the short flight or a helicopter can be worth more than it looks. Toulon-Hyères is 17 nautical miles but 52 km by road. The onward flights that make sense are the ones with no road at all. Figari in Corsica is 161 nautical miles, about 55 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, and Olbia in Sardinia is 201 nautical miles, about 50 minutes in a Phenom 300E. Paris Le Bourget at 400 nautical miles is an ordinary light-jet sector. France and Italy are both in the Schengen area, so the first landing carries the passport formalities and the hops after it do not repeat them.

Before you accept an onward quote from Saint-Tropez

– Who is flying it. La Môle asks for specific pilot qualification, and an operator that has never used the field will either decline or position a crew that has, so a quote that ignores the point is a quote that will change;

– Whether the legs are one booking. Saint-Tropez to Olbia to Saint-Tropez over a week costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of returning to base between stops.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Saint-Tropez:

Light jets, the natural fit for La Môle

At an hour and three quarters this is the sensible class for four or five people, and the 1,071 m runway at La Môle is the second reason. Nothing here lacks the range, so the money goes on the villa and the car instead of a cabin you will not fill.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for the luggage of a villa week

The hold fills faster than the seats in July and August: golf clubs, wine, paddle boards and the children's kit. Midsize jets use the long runway at Toulon-Hyères, and the drive from there is the price of the extra cabin.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large, usually via Nice

For a party travelling as one group, a team that works in the air, or a trip that carries on from the Riviera to the Gulf or New York. These aircraft belong on Nice's runways, with a helicopter or a car for the last 95 km.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the summer hops from the gulf: Figari and the short link to Nice are well under an hour in the air, and the saving over a jet on those distances is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch from Nice, Cannes or Toulon: fifteen to twenty minutes in place of a road that is rarely quick in the season. The landing site is agreed before the quote.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. The Riviera is among the busiest private aviation corridors in Europe, so there is often an aircraft within half an hour of the gulf, and a quote may name Nice or Toulon as the positioning point. That is normal for a destination with a restricted airfield, and it is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports for Saint-Tropez

Five airports are worth discussing for a Saint-Tropez trip. One is close but restricted, one is the usual choice for a midsize jet, one is the big airport of the coast, one is a small field at Cannes, and the last accepts only flights that have already cleared the border. Which one is right depends on the aircraft, the date and the country you fly from, not on the postcode.

Airport What it gives you
La Môle-Saint-Tropez
LTT / LFTZ
The closest runway, about 15 km from the village at an elevation of 59 ft. One asphalt runway, 06/24, 30 m wide, with a declared length of 1,071 m: landing is on 24 and take-off on 06, daylight only, and a noise procedure applies to every departure. It is a restricted-use airfield, so the operator needs special approval and the pilots need training for the type, and prior permission is required. Jet A1 is available, fire cover is category 4, and prior notice for international flights is 24 hours. Flights from outside the Schengen area are accepted only in a window published as 1 July to 15 October, within shorter hours of 09:00 to 19:00 local time; both the dates and the hours have changed over the years, so we check them for the day of the flight. The airfield suits turboprops and light jets; anything larger is normally sent to one of the airports below
Toulon-Hyères
TLN / LFTH
The airport usually recommended for Saint-Tropez, 52 km away by road and 10 to 15 minutes by helicopter. It has two asphalt runways, 05/23 of 2,120 m and 13/31 of 1,902 m, and is shared with the naval air base on the south-western side. Prior permission is needed for every flight, with lead times of 4 hours for domestic flights, 24 French office hours for Schengen traffic and 48 for flights from outside Schengen. Customs is available every day in daylight hours and notified with the permission request, but a passport stamp has to be asked for specifically. Handling should be requested in advance, and early morning arrivals can be blocked by military activity
Nice Côte d'Azur
NCE / LFMN
The big-jet airport, 95 km from Saint-Tropez by road. Two parallel runways of 2,570 m and 2,960 m, open 24 hours, with a general aviation terminal beside Terminal 2 that has VIP and crew lounges and customs normally available there from 08:00 to 21:00. Nice is slot coordinated all year, parking over four hours needs the airport's approval (often confirmed only about a week before), and the ramp is very tight in the peak season. Choose it for a large cabin, a late arrival, a long-haul connection or when the plan is a helicopter to the gulf
Cannes-Mandelieu
CEQ / LFMD
A small airport 5 km west of Cannes with a main runway, 17/35, of about 1,610 m. Aircraft up to a published 35 tonnes maximum take-off weight are accepted (we confirm the limit for the date), so most midsize jets and some large ones, but not the biggest. It is not open 24 hours: the airport publishes closing times of 20:00 in winter, 21:00 in spring and autumn and 22:00 in summer, and there is no overtime. Slots are required in the main season, from mid-May to mid-September. It is the quickest airport for Cannes and a helicopter to Saint-Tropez takes about 15 minutes
Le Castellet
CTT / LFMQ
Better known for the Paul Ricard circuit than for the villa trade, about 84 km from La Môle. One runway, 12/30, of 1,485 m by 30 m at an elevation of about 1,390 ft, with fuel from an automated dispenser around the clock. Only flights within the Schengen area are accepted, with a 24-hour prior permission request, and no flights from outside it. That rules it out as a first landing from Britain, but a sensible parking base once the aircraft has cleared the border at Nice or Toulon

Four points settle most Saint-Tropez arrivals:

Choose the airport by aircraft and date

La Môle for a light jet in the summer window. Toulon-Hyères for a midsize cabin or for any month outside it. Nice for a large cabin, a night arrival or a transfer by helicopter. From London the three are within ten nautical miles of each other, so the price of the flight hardly changes; the road is the real difference.

Hours, slots and handling

La Môle works from 08:00 to 19:00 in summer and 09:00 to 17:00 in winter, with extensions to sunset available on request, and every schedule change needs a fresh approval. Ground handling at the small field is limited, so services are requested in advance. Nice and Cannes work on slots; Toulon works on prior permission.

Border and passport

France is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear the border at the first landing. At La Môle that is possible only in the published window of 1 July to 15 October, checked again for the day of the flight. Outside those dates we land at Toulon or Nice and carry on by helicopter, car or a short hop within the Schengen area that needs no further checks. Passports must be valid for at least three months beyond departure.

Car and the one road

The village has no station and no direct motorway, and the approaches from the A8 and the A57 end in the same queue at the entrance in July and August. Pre-book a car with a driver at least a week ahead, give us the airport as well as the village, and do not plan on a rental car.

business aviation

Border, passport and the Schengen window at La Môle

The first landing in the Schengen area is where passport control happens, and for Saint-Tropez the choice of airport decides whether that is possible at La Môle at all. The airfield accepts flights from outside the Schengen area only between 1 July and 15 October as published, and the rule has been changed before, so the dates are checked for the day of the flight. Within those dates it asks for 24 hours' notice, with the working day for such flights shorter than the normal one. From mid-October to the end of June a London flight cannot land at the small airfield directly. It lands at Toulon-Hyères, where customs is normally on duty during the day and the permission request must be filed 48 hours ahead, or at Nice, where customs is normally at the business aviation terminal until the evening. From there the journey to the gulf is a helicopter, a car or a short flight within the Schengen area to La Môle, which carries no further border checks but is a second landing and a second bill. Le Castellet cannot be the first landing from Britain either, because it accepts only flights within the Schengen area. Whichever the case, the crew and passenger list is sent at least a day ahead, passports must be valid for the stay and for three months after it, and visas cannot be issued on arrival. For the way home, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and passengers who are neither British nor Irish citizens may need an electronic travel authorisation for the UK.

passport and customs paperwork for a private jet flight

Landing permits, slots and curfews

A charter from London to the Riviera is the simple case where permits are concerned: a plain point-to-point flight by an operator that holds the right authorisation. A standard charter between Britain and France runs on the operator's usual authorisations, which the operator confirms for the date. The questions start when the routing is more than an out and back, for instance when the aircraft is to carry passengers between two French points. The operator files the paperwork and we track it. What is specific to the gulf is the airport rules, and they are strict in summer.

What is specific to Saint-Tropez

– A restricted field at La Môle. Only operators with special approval may use it, the pilots must meet training requirements for the aircraft type, prior permission is required, approach is on runway 24 and take-off on 06, and a contaminated runway rules the field out. We ask for confirmation in writing before a quote is accepted;

– No night flying and no formal curfew either. The field is open from 08:00 to 19:00 local time in summer and 09:00 to 17:00 in winter, extensions to sunset are possible, and take-off and instrument minima are for daylight only. A departure planned for a late dinner is a departure from Nice;

– Slots at the big neighbours. Nice is coordinated all year, with a tolerance of about ten minutes on arrival and a little more on departure, and Cannes-Mandelieu needs a slot from mid-May to mid-September, requested one to two months ahead on a first-come basis. We book the slot together with the aircraft rather than after it;

– Toulon works on prior permission with no overtime for customs. Early arrivals can fall foul of military flying, so a first wave at dawn is best moved to Nice.

From the apron to the harbour

Saint-Tropez is a fishing village on the south side of a gulf, about 3,600 residents and far more visitors than that in August. Off season the drive from La Môle is short; on a summer Saturday it is a queue. Most of the distances that matter run along the coast, to Nice, to Toulon and across the water to Sainte-Maxime.

La Môle airport to Saint-Tropez
about 15 km south-west of the village
allow 30 minutes or more in season
Toulon-Hyères airport to Saint-Tropez
52 km by road, the airport usually recommended for the villa trade
typically 45 to 60 minutes, 1 h 30 to 2 h in heavy traffic
Nice airport to Saint-Tropez
about 95 km by road, with no direct motorway for the last stretch
allow well over 1 h 30 min in July and August
Saint-Raphaël station to Saint-Tropez
39 km, the nearest rail station, where a boat connection continues
boat or road, timetable in season
Sainte-Maxime to Saint-Tropez by sea
the shuttle across the gulf, which runs all year from Sainte-Maxime
about 15 to 20 minutes
Le Castellet airport to La Môle
about 84 km to the west, the route for an aircraft parked there
typically over 1 hour

By road and by sea

– The approaches. There is no motorway into the village. The A8 and then the road through Sainte-Maxime is one route, the A57 and then the road through Grimaud to La Foux another, and the coast road that links the beaches of Pampelonne is a third. All three end in the same queue at the entrance;

– The boat. In summer the ferries run to Nice, Cannes, Sainte-Maxime and Saint-Raphaël, and the Bateaux Verts shuttle serves Sainte-Maxime, Port-Grimaud, Marines de Cogolin and the Issambres. A private tender or a motor yacht from Cannes or Nice is arranged separately, and its time depends on the vessel, so we quote it with the rest of the trip;

– The harbour. The port has about 800 berths in two marinas, so a yacht guest is as likely to be collected at the quay as at the airport. Tell us which and we send the car to the right place.

Flying to Saint-Tropez with a dog or a cat

For a pet the paperwork is the part of a French trip that needs planning, and the flight is the easy bit: the animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold, and on a sector of under two hours most simply sleep. The date on the health certificate is the detail that goes wrong, because the certificate is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU.

private flight with animals

What France, as an EU country, asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before the animal travels;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, presented at a travellers' point of entry, which for Saint-Tropez means the airport where we clear the border;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Saint-Tropez run

– France does not ask for tapeworm treatment on the way in, only Britain asks for it on the way home, so it is a vet appointment you book near the villa towards the end of the stay. Count back from the departure time, because the window is 24 to 120 hours and a flight that moves by a day can move the window out of reach;

– The order of the chip and the vaccine matters. A vaccination given before the microchip does not count, and an animal that arrives without the right paperwork can be refused entry, so the certificate is checked line by line before the flight, not at the airfield;

– A summer week with a dog is an ordinary booking, but the apron is hot in August and the first landing may be Toulon or Nice rather than the small field. Settle the villa, the yacht and any onward helicopter before the quote, because each one has to accept the animal separately.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Saint-Tropez calendar: a village that fills from May to October

Saint-Tropez has one long season and a few sharp peaks inside it. The Riviera is busy from May to October, July and August are the heaviest weeks, and the regatta in the autumn is a reason of its own. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

Nov to Mar
The quiet months. La Môle works from 09:00 to 17:00, flights from outside the Schengen area cannot land there, and the villa trade is thin, so quotes sit at the low end of the range
Apr to early May
The season opens. May starts the busy months on the Riviera, and the coast begins to fill
15 to 18 May
The Bravades, the village festival for its patron saint, with processions, musket volleys and the main days on 16, 17 and 18 May. It falls well before the border window opens on 1 July, so a London guest lands at Toulon or Nice
Mid to late May
The Cannes Film Festival, about ten days of sustained pressure on Nice, Cannes-Mandelieu and the helicopters between them, followed by the Monaco Grand Prix within about two weeks. Parking at Nice fills early and Cannes needs slots
June
Slots at Cannes-Mandelieu stay in force through the summer. Villa bookings build up, and the border window at La Môle is still a few weeks away
1 July to 15 Oct
The published window in which flights from outside the Schengen area may land at La Môle, subject to a check for the date of the flight. July and August are the busiest months of the year, 14 July falls inside them, and the single road into the village is at its slowest
Early Sept
The Cannes Yachting Festival, about six days of boat show, and extra demand for helicopters and aircraft along the coast
Late Sept to early Oct
Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, about nine days with nearly 250 yachts in the gulf, from century-old classics to modern maxis. The village is full, the border window is still open, and prices for the aircraft rise
Mid-Oct to Nov
The window closes on 15 October. Flights from Britain go back to Toulon or Nice, the days are shorter, and the season winds down

Why a regatta or a festival weekend costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and the Riviera is well placed in it. What gets tight is the small runway, the compulsory handling, the slots at Nice and Cannes, the helicopters and the supply of good cars, all in the same days. A booking made a fortnight before the weeks of the Voiles or the Film Festival can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from further away, and that costs more. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks the coast is one of the easier leisure destinations to fly into, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Saint-Tropez price down

  • Move the dates by a few days where you can. A Tuesday arrival avoids the Saturday changeover of villa rentals, when every aircraft is going the same way;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits at Nice, Toulon or Le Castellet takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and for a sector of this length positioning is a meaningful part of the bill;
  • Check whether Toulon or Nice works as well. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill, the sector to Toulon-Hyères comes out at the same figure as the one to La Môle, and the sector to Nice £100 below it. The difference is small, so let the date, the cabin and the border rules decide, and then price the road.

Types of flights

Saint-Tropez produces a different mix from the city destinations we cover, because it is a summer village with a harbour full of yachts, a border rule of its own and a road that decides the schedule.

  • Villa weeks in July and August, with families, children, pets and a hold full of luggage, flown to La Môle, Toulon or Nice according to the aircraft and the date;
  • Yacht travel, with owners and guests joining a boat in the harbour or leaving it, and crew changes on fixed days;
  • Regatta weeks at the end of September, with sailing teams, owners and spectators who fill the gulf for nine days;
  • Trips that combine the Film Festival at Cannes with a few days in Saint-Tropez, often with a helicopter between the two;
  • Short summer hops to Corsica or Sardinia, with Saint-Tropez at one end and Figari or Olbia at the other;
  • Lunch trips to the beach clubs of Pampelonne, flown out and back from London on the same day.

The day trip is the one to look at closely. Land at La Môle a little before eleven local time in the summer window, leave before 19:00, when the hours for flights to and from outside the Schengen area end, and you are back on the British side in the evening, with up to eight hours on the ground. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote it both ways, so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. The Riviera has a few strong patterns of demand that create them, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Saint-Tropez empty legs come from

– Villa changeovers. Aircraft that bring a party to the coast at the start of a week often fly home empty, and a departure leg towards Britain on a Saturday or Sunday evening is the one most often offered;

– The festival and the regatta. Delegations and owners arrive on fixed dates, and the aircraft leave empty a day or two after the event ends, which produces outbound legs for a short period;

– The season changeover. At the start and the end of the summer, aircraft are positioned to and from the coast, and the repositioning legs are the ones offered.

Because the Riviera corridor is thinner out of season than in July, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Saint-Tropez match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

At Saint-Tropez a helicopter is a tool for the link between a big airport and the gulf, and not an extra. It turns a road that can take two hours in August into a flight of a quarter of an hour. The operators' flights from Nice, Cannes and Monaco land at La Môle or at the public heliport at Grimaud, and the last stretch is then by car. A private helipad in the village or at a beach club is possible only where the site is approved.

Nice airport to Saint-Tropez
the standard link for a party arriving by large jet and wanting the gulf for lunch
about 20 minutes
Cannes to Saint-Tropez
from the Film Festival or the Yachting Festival, a short hop along the coast
about 15 minutes
Monaco to Saint-Tropez
from the heliport in the principality, the longest of the regular transfers
about 22 minutes
Toulon-Hyères airport to Saint-Tropez
the alternative for a midsize jet that cannot or will not use La Môle
about 10 to 15 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– Know where it lands. The public heliport lies outside the village and the final leg is by car, so a helicopter does not by itself remove the last road. A landing at a private site, a hotel or a beach club needs a site approved for it, and we check its status before the quote is written, not after it;

– Peak weeks sell out. Transfers between Nice and Cannes fill quickly during the Film Festival, and helicopter prices in July and August run 20 to 30 percent above the off-season rate. Book the helicopter together with the jet, and reconfirm the day before;

– Weather and wind set the schedule. A sea mist or a strong wind can delay a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day.

The machines on this coast are mostly the five-seat Airbus H125, the type formerly sold as the AS350, with larger machines such as the H130, H135 and Bell 429 for bigger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Saint-Tropez charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK

Lunch at the beach and home for dinner

Biggin Hill - La Môle and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 45 min each way · 4 pax

Wheels up at eight, on the ground at La Môle a little before eleven local time, a table at Pampelonne by noon and back at Biggin Hill in the evening. The aircraft and crew waited at the airfield rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and still comes in below two separate one-way charters. The return left well before the border hours ended at 19:00.

REGATTA WEEK · THE BORDER WINDOW

Owner and two guests for the Voiles

Southampton - La Môle, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 40 min · 3 pax

The dates were set by the regatta and not by the client. The flight fell inside the window for flights from outside the Schengen area, so the aircraft landed at La Môle directly, with the border service told a day ahead and a car waiting for the short drive to the port.

FESTIVAL WEEK · THE SMALL AIRPORT

A film team for Cannes, then a weekend on the gulf

Farnborough - Cannes-Mandelieu, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 40 min · 6 pax

A light jet well inside the 35-tonne limit, a slot requested eight weeks ahead and no overtime at the end of the day. The team took a helicopter from Cannes to Saint-Tropez on the Friday, about a quarter of an hour, and flew home from Toulon on the Monday.

LARGE CABIN · THE OTHER AIRPORT WON

A group of nine for a villa in the hills

London Luton - Nice, Challenger 350, about 1 h 40 min · 9 pax

They had asked for Saint-Tropez because it is where the villa was. Nine passengers and their luggage meant a large-cabin jet, and a jet of that class belongs on the long runways at Nice. We landed there, cleared the border in the business terminal and booked two helicopters for the twenty minutes to the gulf.

VILLA SUMMER · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a spaniel for a week in August

Birmingham - La Môle, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 50 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the villa took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in a single exchange of messages rather than three.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING NORTH

A jet already going your way

Toulon-Hyères - Biggin Hill, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 40 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a villa party to the coast for the week and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday afternoon departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Saint-Tropez

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Saint-Tropez?

About 1 hour 45 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, covering roughly 576 to 590 nautical miles, and around 1 hour 45 minutes from Luton in a Phenom. From Bristol or Birmingham allow between 1 hour 45 minutes and 1 hour 50 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 2 hours 25 minutes in a midsize jet. France is one hour ahead of Britain, so an eight o'clock departure lands shortly before eleven local time.

2How much does a private jet to Saint-Tropez cost?

From about £8,400 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, and £8,550 from London City or £8,900 in a Phenom from Luton. A Phenom from Birmingham or Bristol runs £9,250 to £9,600, a midsize cabin from Manchester into Toulon-Hyères £12,700, and from Scotland allow £15,000 to £15,200. July, August, the Film Festival week and the regatta weeks price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Saint-Tropez?

La Môle-Saint-Tropez (LTT / LFTZ) is the closest, about 15 km from the village, with one runway of 1,071 m, daylight-only operation, a requirement for special approval and training, and a window for flights from outside the Schengen area that is published as 1 July to 15 October and checked for the date of the flight. Toulon-Hyères (TLN / LFTH), 52 km away by road, has a 2,120 m runway and takes midsize jets and flights from Britain all year. Nice (NCE / LFMN), 95 km away, is the choice for a large cabin or a helicopter transfer of about 20 minutes. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill the sectors differ in price by £100 or less.

4Do I need a visa, a landing permit or customs clearance for Saint-Tropez?

Britain is outside Schengen and France is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival. British passport holders need no visa for a short stay, with a passport valid for at least three months beyond departure, and a visa cannot be issued on arrival. La Môle accepts flights from outside the Schengen area only in the published window of 1 July to 15 October (we check the dates for your flight), with 24 hours' notice; at other times the aircraft lands at Toulon-Hyères or Nice, and Le Castellet takes only flights within the Schengen area. A standard charter between Britain and France runs on the operator's usual authorisations, and the operator confirms what is needed for the date; our team handles the paperwork and the notice to the airport.

5Can I take a helicopter from Nice or Cannes to Saint-Tropez?

Yes. The flight from Nice airport takes about 20 minutes, from Cannes about 15 and from Monaco about 22, and from Toulon-Hyères about 10 to 15. Operators land at La Môle or at the public heliport at Grimaud, both a drive from the village, and a private pad in town is possible where the site is approved. By road the same trip can take well over an hour and a half in July and August. In peak weeks and during the Film Festival, helicopters fill quickly, so we book them together with the jet.

6Can I take my dog to Saint-Tropez on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and an EU country such as France asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used. France does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, but a dog needs one from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
