Hire a Private Jet to Lecce, Puglia
Lecce has no commercial airport of its own, so a private jet from Britain lands at Brindisi and a car covers the last forty minutes to the Baroque city. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that fact. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Brindisi has a runway of 3,048 m, three listed handlers and good roads to Lecce, Gallipoli, Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca, while the air base nearest to Lecce, Galatina, is a military field and not an option for a charter. The decisions that matter are the handler, the week and the place where your bed is.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Lecce depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a flight to Brindisi in a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Lecce?
A light jet needs just under three hours from Biggin Hill or London City, a midsize one about three hours fifteen from Glasgow, and the clocks in Salento run an hour ahead of Britain. The aircraft flies to Brindisi, which lies 39 km from Lecce in a straight line. At 1,019 to 1,318 nautical miles from the British fields we use, this is a light-jet sector for travellers from the south of England and a midsize one for those coming from the north. Door to door: from a London airfield to Piazza Sant'Oronzo
Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and the aircraft touches down at Brindisi a little before eleven local time. Customs and immigration at the airport are listed as available round the clock in one airfield directory, and we confirm the cover in writing for your date. From the apron a car takes the SS613 main road to Lecce in about 40 minutes, so a client who left London before breakfast can sit down to a late lunch in the old town or at the gate of a masseria. Lecce is a drive, not a landing.
Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes for Salento
– Up to four people with the luggage of a villa week, a light jet is enough. Two hours fifty in a CJ3+ is an easy sector, and the difference against a larger cabin buys a better car at the other end and a second driver for the coast;
– Five or six passengers, or a hold that carries boards, a pushchair and, on the way home, cases of oil and wine, call for a midsize cabin, and we price one next to the light jet so that both figures are on the table. In Salento the luggage tends to decide before the seat count does;
– A large jet makes sense for a wedding party flying together, for a team that wants to work in the air, or for a trip that goes on from Salento to other countries. Brindisi's 3,048 m runway suits all of them; the parking stand is the real constraint, and we reserve it before the aircraft is named.

Prices for the private jet flights to Lecce
Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into Brindisi Salento, the airport where the jet really lands for Lecce. The week of Sant'Oronzo, the Taranta week and the August weekends can price above these figures, and the calendar block further down shows when.

Private jet flights from Lecce
Nobody departs from Lecce itself, so every outbound flight starts at Brindisi. From there Bari is a short hop up the coast, Dubrovnik lies across the water, Naples and Rome are an hour or so away, and Malta and Athens complete the southern end of the map. Typical one-way prices:

Leaving Salento: when the aircraft wins and when the car does
Bari is only 113 km from Brindisi in a straight line, so the car or the train beats a charter, except where the aircraft must already be waiting at the second airport, as when a party lands in Brindisi and flies home from Bari after a few days in Matera. The hop that really earns its fare crosses the water: Dubrovnik is 120 nautical miles, about 50 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12. Naples is 173 nautical miles, about 1 hour, Rome Ciampino 261, Malta 345 and Athens 336. Croatia, Malta and Greece share the Schengen area with Italy, so passport formalities are dealt with once, on arrival, and the later hops add none.
Before you accept an onward quote
– Which field at the far end, and what it offers to a private jet. In summer the handler and the parking at a busy field are checked before the quote is written, not after it;
– Whether the sectors are one booking. Brindisi to Dubrovnik to Naples and back over four days costs less as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of flying home between stops.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Lecce and the Salento:
Light jets for a couple or a small family
Brindisi is within reach of every light jet we offer, and the sector takes under three hours. The money is better spent on the car, the driver and the table at the masseria than on a cabin that stays half empty.
Midsize, for a house party and a heavy hold
A week on the coast means beach kit, bicycles or boards, and a case or two of Salento wine and oil on the return. Midsize cabins carry all of it and still leave each guest a seat.
Super-midsize and large
For a wedding party travelling as one group, a delegation that works on board, or a trip that carries on from Salento to Greece or the Gulf. The runway never limits these aircraft at Brindisi; the stand is what we book first.
Turboprops
The sensible choice for hops from Brindisi to Bari, Dubrovnik and Naples, where a jet saves a few minutes and costs a great deal more.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch to a villa on the Ionian coast, a masseria among the olives or a day on the Adriatic cliffs. A landing site is agreed before the quote.

These are examples from a much larger list. Few business jets are based at Brindisi itself, so the aircraft for your dates may come from Bari, Rome or Naples, and the offer shows that positioning as a separate line. It is a routine part of a Salento quote and often keeps the total lower than a jet flown out empty from Britain.

Business aviation airports for Lecce
Lecce is a city without an airfield that can take a jet, so the question is which airfield in the region deserves the landing. Only one is a routine answer, and the others are listed here so that nobody books the wrong one from a website that shows the wrong map.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Brindisi, Salento BDS / LIBR |
The gateway for Lecce and for the whole peninsula, 39 km from the city in a straight line and about 49 km on the SS613. A main asphalt runway (13/31) of 3,048 m with an instrument approach, a second runway (05/23) that one directory lists as taxi only, and an aerodrome that is listed as open round the clock. Sky Services runs a dedicated business aviation terminal with lounges and meeting rooms, Delta Aerotaxi lists an executive lounge, a crew rest area and a flight-planning room, and Fly Service appears as a third handler. This is where we land for Lecce, Gallipoli, Otranto and Leuca |
| Taranto-Grottaglie, Marcello Arlotta TAR / LIBG |
On the Ionian side of the region and about 67 km from Lecce in a straight line, which makes it a poor first choice for the city and a reasonable one for a programme on the western coast. A single runway (17/35) of about 3,200 m, a joint civil and military field with customs, mandatory handling, and hours that are not round the clock: the tower is listed for 07:00 to 19:00 UTC. It is the airport to ask about when Brindisi cannot offer a stand |
| Bari, Karol Wojtyła BRI / LIBD |
About 150 km from Lecce by road, with a 3,000 m runway. It is the right landing only when the programme starts in Bari, Matera or the trulli country and Lecce is a later stop. For a stay in Salento the extra drive costs more than the fare saves |
| Galatina, Lecce air base LIBN / LCC |
An Italian Air Force base about 15 km south-south-west of Lecce, with a runway of about 1,900 m (6,240 ft). Directories list it as for military use only, with short weekday hours, and some listings file it under the name Lecce, which is why it keeps appearing in searches. A civil charter cannot plan on it and we do not |
| Lecce-San Cataldo, Lepore LINL |
A small airfield on the coast east of Lecce, listed as a small airport. It serves light aircraft; we do not plan business jets there |
Four points about the Brindisi apron that decide the day:
The handler and the terminal
Handling is mandatory, and the handler is named in the flight plan. Sky Services lists a dedicated business aviation terminal with private lounges, meeting rooms, fuelling, catering coordination and ramp support; Delta Aerotaxi lists an executive lounge, crew rest areas, a flight-planning room and customs assistance. We pick one on the stand available and the price quoted, and we tell you which, so that the driver waits at the right building.
Hours, customs and fuel
The aerodrome is listed as open round the clock, and one airfield directory gives customs and immigration as round the clock too; we still ask the handler to confirm it for your date, because listings differ. Jet A1 and AVGAS are listed as delivered by truck, with the fuel service shown as running from 05:00 to 21:30 UTC (local time is one or two hours later) and two hours of notice outside those hours, so a late departure with a fuel uplift is agreed ahead.
Slots, stands and permits
Brindisi is listed as a coordinated airport, which means a slot forms part of the booking, and a pilot report describes advance coordination as required and parking for longer stays as limited. Because the operator is British, the Italian aviation authority, ENAC, must approve the charter as well. It publishes a notice period of five days for a single ad hoc flight and of at least 24 hours for air taxi operations, and the approval travels with the aircraft documents that we manage.
Why not Galatina
The air base south of Lecce looks close on a map and is the first thing a booking site may offer, but it is listed for military use only, with limited hours. The nearest civil runway that can take your aircraft is Brindisi, 39 km away, and the road between them is a good one.

Border, passport and the way home
Passports are checked once, at Brindisi, because Italy belongs to Schengen and Britain does not. A British passport carries 90 days in any 180 without a visa if it is less than ten years old and has three months left beyond the date of departure. The EU entry and exit system may ask a first-time visitor for a photograph and fingerprints at the desk, and that registration is free. A hotel registers its foreign guests with the police on its own; a guest in a private villa or a masseria let as a house must declare the stay to the local police office within eight days, and the owner usually knows how.
For the journey home, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed no earlier than 48 hours and no later than 2 hours before departure. Any passenger who is neither British nor Irish and needs no visa for Britain must hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation, which is easier to check in London than at a desk in Brindisi. A hop on to Athens or Dubrovnik adds no passport control, as both lie in Schengen.

From the apron to Baroque Lecce
Lecce has about 94,000 residents and a university, and it carries the nickname Florence of the South for a reason that is visible in any street: the soft local limestone, easy to carve, was worked into balconies, cornices and whole facades. The Basilica di Santa Croce was begun in the fourteenth century and finished only in the late seventeenth, and its front is crowded with animals, grotesque figures and fruit. The cathedral in Piazza del Duomo was rebuilt in the seventeenth century by Giuseppe Zimbalo, who also built its bell tower. A column to the patron saint stands in Piazza Sant'Oronzo, beside the Roman amphitheatre of the second century, which could seat some 25,000 people and is now partly buried, and the arch of Porta Napoli was raised in the sixteenth century in honour of Charles V. The old centre is compact and made for walking, so the driver leaves you at the edge and the visit begins on foot.

Gallipoli, Otranto and Leuca: three coasts from one base
Many people who land at Brindisi for Lecce spend a night or two in the city and the rest of the week on the water, and the three towns below are the ones that decide where the villa or the masseria should be.
- Gallipoli, on the Ionian coast. The old town sits on a limestone island joined to the mainland by a bridge built in the sixteenth century, with a Baroque cathedral of the seventeenth century and a castle of Byzantine origin, remade by the Angevins and the Aragonese. The name comes from the Greek Kallipolis, the beautiful city. The beach season runs from May to October, and the lidos at Baia Verde are the busy side of it. A local day-trip guide advises skipping August, when the town is at its most crowded;
- Otranto, on the Adriatic. A walled town of about 5,600 residents with a cathedral floor laid with a mosaic in the twelfth century and an Aragonese castle rebuilt at the end of the fifteenth. It remembers the Ottoman landing of that century and its martyrs, and the lighthouse of Palascia, some 5 km to the south-east, marks the easternmost point of the Italian mainland. The town is one of the most beautiful villages of Italy by the association that keeps the list;
- Santa Maria di Leuca, at the end of the peninsula. Punta Meliso is traditionally named as the place where the Adriatic meets the Ionian, though a rival point 440 m to the south disputes it. The lighthouse is 47 m tall on a headland 102 m above the sea, the sanctuary of De Finibus Terrae was built in the eighteenth century, and a staircase of 284 steps joins it to the port. Some 43 villas of the nineteenth century line the shore.
The practical rule is the one that applies to the whole region: sleep on the coast you want, because a transfer across the peninsula takes an hour or more each way and turns a good day into a long one.
Masserie and the Salento table
A masseria is a historic farmhouse of the Puglia countryside, built to produce olive oil, wine and grain and fortified against pirates and raiders with thick limestone walls, small windows, an inner courtyard and a watchtower. Many were abandoned when farming changed and have been restored as small hotels, some with a spa, a cooking school or an underground oil mill kept as a dining room. For a family or a wedding party they are the usual base in Salento, and the last leg of nearly every such itinerary is made by car. Ask about the opening months before you book: a masseria that is not a year-round hotel may close in winter.
The table is part of the programme, and Lecce has its own. The pasticciotto is a short pastry filled with custard, traditionally placed in Galatina and best eaten warm at breakfast. The caffè leccese is an espresso poured over ice and almond syrup, and the rustico is a savoury puff pastry parcel with béchamel, mozzarella and a spoonful of tomato, which people carry to the beach. Galatina itself, where the story of the pasticciotto begins, lies a short drive south of Lecce.
Flying to Salento with a dog or a cat
A pet adds paperwork and not difficulty: the animal rides in the cabin beside you, and on a flight of this length most dogs doze. The work is in the certificate, which is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU, so the vet visit is counted back from the day you land at Brindisi and not from the day you book.

Italy applies the EU rules to a dog or cat arriving from Britain:
- An ISO microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination or on the same day;
- A rabies vaccination given at 12 weeks of age or later, followed by a wait of 21 days before the animal travels;
- An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used for this;
- Five animals at most per traveller, brought in through a travellers' point of entry that we name in writing before the flight;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out in Salento
– The tapeworm appointment falls in Italy. It is Britain, not Italy, that asks for the treatment, and only on the way home, so you book a vet near Lecce or near the masseria for the last days of the stay and count back from the departure time, because a flight that moves by a day can push the 24 to 120 hour window out of reach;
– The sequence of chip and vaccine counts. A vaccination given before the microchip does not count, and an animal that arrives with the wrong paperwork can be refused, so we go through the certificate line by line before the aircraft is named;
– A summer apron is hot. Keep the dog in the cabin with the air conditioning on until the car is at the steps, and ask the handler to bring the car to the aircraft.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. The entry point and the paperwork for the return are confirmed in writing before the flight, and a manager checks the position for your dates before a booking is taken. If the trip includes Malta, tell us at the quote stage, because a dog entering Malta needs a tapeworm treatment of its own.
The Salento calendar: a saint in August, the Taranta and a long beach season
Lecce is a city for every month, and the coast is a destination for five or six of them. Salento has hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters, so the question for most trips is not whether it is warm but whether the town you want is calm or full.
What makes a peak week dear
The aircraft are rarely the scarce item in a peak week. Villas and masserie sell out first, then the drivers who know the coast, then the stands at Brindisi, where a pilot report describes parking for longer stays as limited. A jet booked to wait out a long weekend may be sent to park elsewhere and called back, and each repositioning is billed. Ask two weeks before Sant'Oronzo and the job is still possible, though the aircraft may have to come from Bari, Rome or Naples. Ask five weeks ahead and it is simpler and cheaper.
Ways to bring the Lecce price down
- Move the dates by a few days where you can. The shoulder weeks of May, June and September are calmer and easier to book than the weekends around 15 August, and the stand rules matter least outside the peak;
- Do not save on the airport at the expense of the road. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill, Bari is priced about £700 lower than Brindisi, and it is about 150 km from Lecce against 39 km in a straight line from Brindisi, so the saving is spent in the car before lunch;
- Consider an open-jaw trip. Arriving in Brindisi and leaving from Bari after a few days in Matera usually costs little more than a return to one field, and it saves the party a long drive back;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Bari, Rome or Naples takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a real part of the bill.
Types of flights
Salento draws a mix that differs from Bari or the Riviera: it is a place people go to stay, not to pass through, and the traffic follows the beds.
- City weekends in Lecce, usually two couples or a family, with a car at the steps and a guide for the Baroque churches and the Roman amphitheatre;
- Villa and masseria weeks on the Ionian or Adriatic coast, with a house party, heavy luggage and a driver waiting at the aircraft;
- Weddings in the countryside, with guests split between two or three aircraft and one booking covering every stand and slot;
- Festival trips for Sant'Oronzo or the Taranta, with short stays, an early booking and a return timed around the crowds;
- Sailing and boating holidays based at Gallipoli, where a harbour for private boats serves the old town, with the party landing at Brindisi and driving across the peninsula;
- Visits to the University of Salento and business calls in Lecce, with a small team that wants to be back in London the same evening.
A day trip works within limits. Touch down at about eleven, be in Lecce by noon, start back at half past three and take off at five: you land in Britain at around ten to seven in the evening, UK time, and have spent roughly three and a half hours in the city. The crew waits for you, which is billed, yet the total stays below two separate one-way charters. We price both versions so that you can compare them.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Salento has a strong season, and that is what produces them, so it helps to know where the offers come from.
What creates empty legs at Brindisi
– Villa changeovers. Parties arrive for a week at the start of a stay and leave at the end, and the aircraft that brought them flies home empty, which puts an outbound leg on the market at both ends;
– The August festival weeks. Aircraft that bring guests for Sant'Oronzo or the Taranta and then reposition through Bari, Naples or Rome can offer a leg towards Britain from there;
– Wedding weekends. Operators moving aircraft to and from Salento for a Saturday ceremony put short legs on the market, and those short hops can be cheap.
Away from the summer the traffic between Britain and Salento is lighter than on the busiest London routes, and a client who can offer a few possible days has a much better chance than one tied to a single evening. The price of the discount is control: the operator sets the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish if its original booking moves. Whatever is free appears on our empty legs page, and we flag a Brindisi match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In Salento a helicopter is a tool for the last leg, not the whole trip. The peninsula is flat, the roads are good and the old towns are close to each other, so the gain lies in the final stretch from Brindisi to a villa on the coast, a masseria in the countryside or a beach club on the far side of the peninsula.

Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the owner's consent, so we establish who controls the lawn of a masseria, or a field, before any quote goes out. We do not assume a public heliport on this ground, so the landing site is arranged for each trip;
– Weather has the last word. Wind and storms can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, and Salento can be windy, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;
– The saving is real only on the longer transfers. To Gallipoli or Otranto the helicopter turns an hour in the car into about half that, while for Lecce, 40 minutes by road, the car is the sensible choice.
The machines used on this ground are the Airbus H125 for scenic work, the wider H130 for villa and masseria transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Lecce charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote becomes a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
THE BAROQUE CITY · A LONG WEEKEND
Two couples in Lecce for three nights
Biggin Hill - Brindisi, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h 50 min · 4 pax
They wanted the old town and not a beach. We landed at Brindisi, the car took the SS613 to the hotel in about 40 minutes and a guide was waiting for the cathedral and Santa Croce. The aircraft went home empty and came back for them on the Monday instead of waiting through the weekend.
THE IONIAN COAST · A VILLA NEAR GALLIPOLI
A house party for ten days
Farnborough - Brindisi, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 40 min · 6 pax
Six people, a roof box of luggage and a rented house with its own pool south of Gallipoli. The drive from the airport took about an hour through Lecce, the car stayed for the week, and the flight home was priced separately once the dates were fixed.
A WEDDING · A MASSERIA
Guests in two aircraft
London Luton - Brindisi, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 50 min · 8 pax
The ceremony was on a Saturday in a masseria inland. Eight guests flew in the larger aircraft and a smaller one followed an hour later. The stand and the slot were arranged for both, and the cars were waiting at the foot of the steps with the names on a board.
LATE AUGUST · THE TARANTA
Five friends and one concert
Southampton - Brindisi, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 50 min · 5 pax
The group came for the Melpignano concert and the Sant'Oronzo festival in Lecce in the same fortnight. The booking went in five weeks ahead, rooms in the centre were held before the aircraft was confirmed, and the return left on the Monday morning, after the roads had cleared.
SUMMER · A SPANIEL IN THE CABIN
Four adults and a dog in July
Birmingham - Brindisi, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 55 min · 4 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and a vet near the masseria had to give the tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. Both were booked with the aircraft, and the spaniel waited in the cooled cabin until the car pulled up at the steps.
OPEN JAW · LECCE, THEN MATERA
Arriving at one airport, leaving from another
London Luton - Brindisi, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 40 min · 6 pax
Two nights in Lecce, a car north to the Sassi of Matera and a flight home from Bari. The aircraft flew on to Bari empty and waited there, so the party did not have to drive back to Salento on the last day.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Lecce
1Which airport does a private jet use for Lecce?
Brindisi Salento (BDS / LIBR), 39 km from Lecce in a straight line and about 49 km by road, which takes around 40 minutes. It has a 3,048 m runway, mandatory handling, with Sky Services, Delta Aerotaxi and Fly Service listed, and an aerodrome listed as open round the clock. Lecce has no commercial airport. The Galatina air base south of the city is a military field, listed for military use only, and Taranto-Grottaglie (TAR / LIBG) and Bari (BRI / LIBD) are alternatives only for programmes on the western coast or in Matera and the trulli country.
2How long is a private jet flight from London to Lecce?
The flight is to Brindisi. Allow about 2 hours 50 minutes from London City and Biggin Hill in a light jet and around 2 hours 40 minutes from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 1,019 to 1,051 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Bristol or Manchester it is 2 hours 55 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 3 hours 15 minutes. Clocks in Salento are an hour ahead of Britain, so an early departure from London lands before lunch, and the car reaches Lecce about 40 minutes later.
3How much does a private jet to Lecce cost?
From about £13,600 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill into Brindisi, and £13,900 to £13,950 for a Phenom leaving Farnborough or Luton. A midsize cabin costs £17,350 to £18,950 depending on whether you leave from the south, the Midlands or the north-west, and flights from Scotland run £25,750 to £26,250. The week of Sant'Oronzo, the Taranta week and the August weekends can price above these figures. Landing at Bari instead is about £700 cheaper but leaves a drive of about 150 km.
4Can I reach Gallipoli, Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca from the airport?
Yes. From Brindisi airport Gallipoli is about 86 km and an hour by road, Otranto roughly 95 to 100 km and about 1 hour 10 minutes, and Santa Maria di Leuca about 118 km, or roughly two hours. From Lecce itself Gallipoli is 35 to 40 minutes, Otranto 30 to 40 minutes and Leuca about 1 hour 15 minutes. A helicopter covers Gallipoli or Otranto in about 27 minutes if the landing site is agreed first.
5What border and permit formalities apply to a private flight to Lecce?
Passport control and customs take place at Brindisi, the first Italian landing, because Italy is in Schengen and Britain is not. British passport holders may stay up to 90 days in any 180 without a visa, on a passport under ten years old with three months of validity left after departure. ENAC, the Italian aviation authority, also has to approve a charter by a British operator; it publishes notice of five days for a single ad hoc flight and at least 24 hours for air taxi flights, and we handle the approval with the aircraft documents.
6Can I take my dog to Lecce on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Italy applies the EU rules: a microchip implanted before or together with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or later with 21 days elapsed, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used. Italy asks for no tapeworm treatment on arrival; Britain does on the way back, and a dog must have it from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt.
