Private jet charter in Lamezia Terme

A jet leaving the London fields reaches the toe of Italy in under three hours, and the decision that shapes the trip is taken on the ground: Lamezia Terme is the airport that Calabria's private traffic is built around, so the coast of the gods, the Sila and the cities of the interior all begin on its runway. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that fact. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The airfield has one runway of about 3,000 m, compulsory handling, a slot system and a permit request for general aviation, and the second airfield worth knowing is Reggio Calabria, about 106 km to the south. What decides the trip is the beach or the mountain you are heading for, the week and the hour of the landing.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Lamezia Terme depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Lamezia Terme?

Just under three hours from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, a little more from the north of England and around 3 hours 20 minutes from Edinburgh or Glasgow in a midsize jet, with one hour of clock difference to add on arrival because Italy keeps Central European time. At 1,050 to 1,363 nautical miles from the British fields we use, Lamezia Terme sits near the top of what a light jet flies nonstop from London, and the choice between a light and a midsize cabin starts to matter more here than on Rome or Naples. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the rules on the apron

Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you touch down on the Sant'Eufemia plain a little before eleven local time. Handling is compulsory, and the handler is named in the flight plan. Fly Service opened a dedicated FBO on the field, and clients value the parking it arranges where apron space is tight. The aerodrome and its tower are listed as open round the clock, but customs and immigration are not: one directory gives them as daily from about 05:00 to 01:00 local time and on request outside those hours. That is the line to read before a very late arrival or a very early departure, and we settle it in writing with the handler. A client who leaves a Mayfair office at half past six can be at a table in Pizzo in time for lunch.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to four people with ordinary luggage, a light jet is the sensible answer. Just under three hours in a CJ3+ is comfortable for a short party, and the difference in price goes into the driver and the villa;

– Five or six passengers, a family with children, or golf clubs and diving kit in the hold: we quote a midsize cabin beside the light one so that both figures are on the table. On this sector the baggage hold usually decides before the seat count does;

– A heavy jet earns its place when the party is large or when Calabria is the first leg of a longer itinerary. The runway of about 3,000 m takes everything we send, so the limit is the parking stand and not the tarmac.

Onward from Lamezia: when the aircraft wins and when the car does

Reggio Calabria is only about 106 km away in a straight line, and the road takes roughly an hour and twenty minutes, so a charter makes sense there only when the aircraft has to be at the far end, for instance when you arrive at one airport and fly home from the other. Catania is 107 nautical miles and about 45 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, Palermo 160, Naples 155 and Rome Ciampino 251, which turns a long day on the motorway or the ferry into a lunchtime hop. Malta lies 210 nautical miles away, Dubrovnik 247 and Athens 381. Italy, Malta, Croatia and Greece are all inside the Schengen area, so the first landing carries the formalities and the hops after it are free of passport control.

Before you accept an onward quote from Calabria

– Which airport at the far end, and what it can do for you. Catania and Palermo are busy scheduled airports, and the stand and the handler are checked before the quote is written and not after it;

– Whether the legs are one booking. Lamezia to Catania to Malta and back over five days costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of flying home to base between stops.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Lamezia Terme:

Light jets, for a party of four

Just under three hours is the top of what a light jet does comfortably with a short party and ordinary bags. The range is not in question; what you save against a bigger cabin is better spent on the transfer to the coast.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for a house party and its luggage

Six people with a week of luggage, snorkelling kit and a case of Calabrian wine and olive oil fill a light jet's hold well before the seats. A midsize cabin keeps everyone seated and the bags aboard.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a delegation travelling as one group, a team that wants to work in the air, or a trip that carries on from Calabria to the Gulf or the islands. The runway is no obstacle, and the stand is what we reserve first.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right machine for the hops across the Strait and up the coast: Catania, Palermo and Naples are about an hour or less in the air, and on those distances a turboprop costs far less than a jet.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a villa above the sea near Tropea, a clifftop resort on the Costa degli Dei, a mountain lodge in the Sila. Where the helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

Airbus H130 · 6 seatson request
Airbus H135 · 6 seatson request

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Lamezia has only a modest based fleet, but Rome, Naples and Catania are within an hour or so of it by air, so a quote may name one of those cities as the positioning point. That is normal for an airport at the end of the peninsula, and frequently it is where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Lamezia Terme

One airport carries almost every trip, and two others matter only when the programme leaves the Tyrrhenian coast. Which one is right depends on where you are sleeping and not on the aircraft.

Airport What it gives you
Lamezia Terme International
SUF / LICA
The answer for the Costa degli Dei, Pizzo, Tropea, Catanzaro, Cosenza and the Sila. It lies on the coastal plain of Sant'Eufemia in the municipality of Lamezia Terme, with a single asphalt runway (10/28) of about 3,000 m, instrument approaches and a tower that is listed as working round the clock. The operator is SACAL, the company that also runs Reggio Calabria. Handling is compulsory, and a dedicated FBO run by Fly Service is on the field. The airport is listed as slot-coordinated and as needing prior permission for general aviation, so both form part of the booking. The apron is small, and general aviation parking sits near the tower
Reggio Calabria
REG / LICR
The airport for Reggio, the Strait of Messina, Scilla and the Aspromonte, about 5 km south of the city centre. It has two asphalt runways, 15/33 of 2,061 m and 11/29 of 1,700 m, and is run by the same company as Lamezia. It is shorter than Lamezia, so we check aircraft performance before a midsize or large jet is quoted, and customs cover and handling are confirmed for your dates. Choose it when the programme is on the Strait, not when you are going to Tropea
Crotone, Sant'Anna
CRV / LIBC
The airfield on the Ionian side, south of Crotone beside the E90, with an asphalt runway (17/35) of about 2,000 m. Crotone is the nearest city to the Sila National Park, so the field suits a programme on the eastern coast or the southern Sila. Opening hours, handling and customs cover are confirmed for your dates before a quote is written

Four things to settle before a landing at Lamezia Terme:

The handlers and what they do

Handling is compulsory. Fly Service operates the dedicated FBO, and directories also list Aviapartner on the field, so we confirm which company serves your aircraft before the quote is final. The handler goes into the flight plan, takes the parking request, arranges fuel and meets the aircraft. Jet A-1 is supplied by truck, and a late uplift is something to ask for in advance rather than at the steps.

Hours, slots and permits

The aerodrome and the tower are listed as open round the clock, but the airport is slot-coordinated, with Level 2 listed for the summer season, and general aviation needs prior permission, which according to one pilot report is usually granted quickly by e-mail. A British operator running a charter is a third-country carrier, so ENAC, the Italian civil aviation authority, authorises the flight as well; its published deadline is at least 24 hours for air taxi flights and five days for a single ad hoc charter. We track the permit with the slot.

Border and passport

Italy is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear the border at the first Italian landing. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport less than ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked to register a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system, which is free. Customs and immigration are not offered round the clock, and cover outside the listed hours is on request.

Car and late nights

Give us the handler as well as the flight, so that the driver goes to the right place. Pizzo is about 29 km and 25 minutes from the airport, Catanzaro about 36 km and half an hour, Cosenza about 65 km and 45 minutes, Tropea about 58 km and an hour. A landing in the small hours should be agreed in writing beforehand, with the hours of customs, fuel and the handler checked together.

business aviation

Border, passport and Reggio Calabria

The first landing in the Schengen area is where the formalities happen, and for Calabria that is usually Lamezia. After that the borders disappear. A flight from Lamezia to Reggio Calabria, Catania or Naples is a domestic Italian sector or a sector inside Schengen, with no passport control at the other end, which is why arriving in one airport and leaving from another is easy to arrange. For the return, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and passengers who are neither British nor Irish and need no visa for Britain must hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation. Hotels register foreign guests with the police, so keep your passport with you at check-in; a guest who is not staying in a hotel must declare their presence to the local police office within eight days.

From the apron to the Costa degli Dei

Lamezia Terme itself is a town of about 67,000 people, created by merging three older towns, Nicastro, Sambiase and Sant'Eufemia, and it is the transport crossroads of the region: the main railway between Reggio and Naples runs through it, the A2 motorway passes beside it, and the airport has been open since the 1970s. What a private client wants lies beyond it. To the south-west is the Costa degli Dei, a stretch of about 55 km of coast, which runs from Pizzo to Nicotera and includes Tropea. To the east, across the narrowest part of the peninsula, are Catanzaro and the Ionian Sea, and to the north-east the Sila.

about 131 km, typically 1 hour 20 minutes

The Costa degli Dei, the Sila and the cities

Calabria is long and thin, and the parts of a trip rarely overlap. The sea is on the Tyrrhenian side, within an hour of the airport. The mountains are in the middle, and the cities lie along the valley between them.

Tropea is the name clients ask for. The upper town stands on a rock above the sea and the lower district, Marina, has about three kilometres of white beach. From the sanctuary on its islet you can see the Aeolian Islands, among them Stromboli and Vulcano, and on a clear day Sicily and Etna. The town also gives its name to the red onion, an agricultural product the region is proud of. Pizzo is the quieter alternative, with a castle where Joachim Murat, the former King of Naples, was shot, and a cave church dug into the rock, and it is about half an hour from the airport. Between the two runs the Costa degli Dei, the coast of the gods.

In the middle is the Sila National Park, which covers roughly 737 square kilometres and whose highest point, Monte Botte Donato, reaches 1,928 m. In winter it is a small ski area, with Lorica and Camigliatello Silano on the Cosenza side, and in summer it is lakes and forest. Cosenza is the city of the interior, and Catanzaro the regional capital. Further south is Reggio Calabria, where the National Archaeological Museum of Magna Graecia holds the Riace Bronzes, a pair of Greek bronze statues that are one of the city's symbols, and where the sea promenade looks across to Sicily.

Flying to Calabria with a dog or a cat

For a pet the paperwork is the hard part of an Italian trip, and the flight itself is easy: the animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold, and on a sector of under three hours most simply sleep. The date on the health certificate is where trips go wrong, because the certificate is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU.

private flight with animals

What an EU country such as Italy asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed after the vaccination before the animal travels;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, and entry through a travellers' point of entry, which we confirm in writing for the airport;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Calabria run

– The tapeworm treatment is a task for the end of the holiday, not the beginning. Italy does not ask for it on the way in, but Britain does on the way back, so the vet appointment is made in Calabria. Count back from the departure time: the window is 24 to 120 hours, and a flight that moves by a day can push the treatment out of it, which matters in a region where a vet may be an hour from the villa;

– Chip first, vaccine second. A vaccination given before the microchip does not count, and an animal that arrives without the right paperwork can be refused entry, so the certificate is checked line by line before the flight;

– Calabrian summers are hot. On the apron a dog needs shade and water while the aircraft is prepared, and the car should be waiting with the air conditioning running. If Malta is on the itinerary, the rules change, because a dog entering Malta needs a tapeworm treatment on the way in as well; tell us every stop when you ask for the quote.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Calabrian calendar: snow, film, chilli and a long beach summer

Calabria has a long beach season, a short mountain one and a handful of dated festivals that fill the coastal towns. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

Winter
Snow in the Sila. Lorica, at 1,314 m beside Lake Arvo, has about 7.5 km of runs and a bobsleigh track, and Camigliatello Silano has two gondola lifts rising to Monte Curcio at 1,765 m. A small ski area rather than an Alpine one, and a day trip from Cosenza or a winter weekend for a group
27 March
The feast day of the Madonna of Romania, the patron saint of Tropea. A local religious holiday in the old town, so ask the hotel about the programme before you fix the date
June
The Trame Festival, held in Lamezia Terme itself, the one dated event on this page in the airport's own town. Worth a night in the town for anyone with business or friends there
Late July
The Magna Graecia Film Festival, listed at Soverato on the Ionian coast. If you are going to it, ask us about the road from the airport before you choose the base
July and August
The Armonie d'Arte festival near Catanzaro, the red onion festival (listed as being held at Ricadi, next to Capo Vaticano) and the peak of the beach season on the Costa degli Dei. Rooms, cars and villas with a pool need the longest notice, and stand space at Lamezia is at its tightest
Late August
The Roccella Jazz Festival at Roccella Ionica, on the Ionian coast. Another event for the eastern side of the region, so settle the base and the road from the airport at the booking stage
September
The Peperoncino Festival, about five days of chilli tasting, shows and concerts at Diamante on the Riviera dei Cedri, and the Tropea Film Festival in the old town. The sea is still warm and the crowds are thinner than in August
September and October
The Tropea Blues Festival in the old town, a late season event for a few quiet days after the summer crowds have left
Autumn to early spring
The quiet months on the coast. Pizzo, Cosenza, Catanzaro and Reggio work all year and charters are easy to arrange, but check the opening dates of any resort or restaurant before you book it

Why a busy week costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Calabria is within easy range of it. What gets tight is the number of good villas, cars and boats, and the parking stands on a small apron: a jet that is meant to wait for you through a long weekend may have to be placed elsewhere or sent away and called back. A booking made two weeks before the first week of August can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Rome, Naples or Catania, and that costs more. The same booking made four or five weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper.

Ways to bring the Lamezia Terme price down

  • Move the dates by a few days where you can. The weeks outside the second half of July and August are calmer, and the booking is easier for the handler to place on a small apron;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Rome, Naples or Catania takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a meaningful part of the bill;
  • Check which airport suits the plan. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill, a flight to Reggio Calabria is priced about £300 higher than one to Lamezia. If you are sleeping in Scilla or Reggio itself, that can cost less than the extra hour and twenty minutes of driving each way, so let the bed decide.

Types of flights

Lamezia produces a different mix from the Alpine or the Riviera destinations we cover, because the traffic is split between a sea coast of villas and resorts, a small ski area and a handful of regional cities with business of their own.

  • Holiday charters to Tropea, Capo Vaticano and the villas of the Costa degli Dei, with a family or a house party, a lot of luggage and a driver at the foot of the steps;
  • Business travel to Catanzaro, Cosenza and Lamezia itself, with fixed meeting dates and a small team;
  • Weddings and celebrations on the coast, with guests arriving in two or three small aircraft, and the stand and the slot arranged for all of them together;
  • Winter weekends in the Sila, a ski day out from the airport for a family or a group of friends;
  • Heritage and culture trips to Cosenza, Catanzaro and Reggio, with a car meeting the aircraft and a guide for the Riace Bronzes or the old town;
  • Hops across the Strait to Sicily, up the coast to Naples and Rome, or south to Malta, inside a longer Mediterranean loop.

The day trip is possible and should be looked at closely. Land a little before eleven local time, leave at five in the afternoon and you are back on the British side shortly before seven in the evening, UK time, with about six hours on the ground in between. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it is cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote it both ways, so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Lamezia does not have a single event that creates them, so they come from the pattern of the season, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Lamezia Terme empty legs come from

– The summer changeovers. Parties arrive for a week or two on the coast, the aircraft goes home empty, and an outbound leg appears at the start of the stay and another at the end;

– Festival and holiday weekends. Aircraft that take guests to Calabria sometimes reposition through Catania, Naples or Rome, and a leg towards Britain from there can be offered;

– Weddings and celebrations. Operators moving aircraft to and from the coast for a weekend event put short legs on the market, and those short hops can be cheap.

Because the corridor between Britain and Calabria is thinner than the busiest London routes outside the summer, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Lamezia match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Calabria a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and not the middle. The motorway is good along the spine of the region, but the coastal roads are slower, so what a helicopter changes is the last stretch to a villa, a resort above the sea or a day that would otherwise be spent in the car.

Lamezia airport to Pizzo
11 nm in a straight line, against about 25 minutes by road
about 14 minutes
Lamezia airport to Tropea
22 nm in a straight line, against about an hour on the road
about 19 minutes
Lamezia to Reggio Calabria airport
57 nm in a straight line, against about 1 hour 20 minutes by road
about 38 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent, so we check the status of a resort lawn or a field before the quote is written and not after it;

– Weather sets the schedule. Wind, storms and low cloud can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– A transfer is only worth it where the saving is large. On the short hop to Pizzo the helicopter is a pleasure and not a necessity, and the car is the honest answer.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for scenic work, the wider H130 for villa and resort transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Lamezia Terme charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

THE COAST · A VILLA WEEK

Six people and a villa above Tropea

Farnborough - Lamezia Terme, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 45 min · 6 pax

Two families, a great deal of luggage and a rented villa with a pool on the cliffs. The car took about an hour from the airport, the aircraft was released after the drop-off instead of waiting a week, and the return was booked as a separate sector, which came out cheaper than leaving it on the ground.

THE SILA · A SKI WEEKEND

Friends, snow and a mountain lodge

Southampton - Lamezia Terme, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 50 min · 6 pax

They wanted a winter weekend without a long drive after the flight. We landed at Lamezia and put a driver on the road to Lorica, about an hour and a half, and moved the return to a Sunday afternoon, when the stand was easy to get and the road quiet.

BUSINESS · CATANZARO AND COSENZA

A delegation with meetings in two cities

London Luton - Lamezia Terme, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 50 min · 8 pax

Meetings in Catanzaro on the first day and in Cosenza on the second, so the aircraft was kept at Lamezia and the cars did the rest. The handler confirmed the parking and the customs hours for both days before the quote was signed.

A WEDDING · TWO AIRCRAFT

Guests for a ceremony on the coast

London City - Lamezia Terme, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h 55 min · 6 pax

Guests arrived in two small aircraft on the same morning. With a small apron the stands and the slots were requested for both together, the cars were sent to the right handler and the return flights were placed on different days to ease the departure queue.

SUMMER · A DOG ON BOARD

A family of four and a retriever

Birmingham - Lamezia Terme, Citation XLS+, about 3 h · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Calabria for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, and the villa was one that takes dogs.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING NORTH

A jet already going your way

Lamezia Terme - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 45 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Lamezia Terme

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Lamezia Terme?

About 2 hours 55 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, and around 2 hours 45 minutes from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 1,050 to 1,084 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Bristol or Manchester allow 3 hours to 3 hours 10 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 3 hours 20 minutes. Italy is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands a little before eleven local time.

2How much does a private jet to Lamezia Terme cost?

From about £13,950 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, and £14,200 to £14,350 in a Phenom from Farnborough or Luton. A midsize cabin runs £17,700 to £19,450 from the south, the Midlands and the north-west of England, and from Scotland allow £26,600 to £27,050. The weeks of late July and August can price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use, Lamezia Terme or Reggio Calabria?

Lamezia Terme (SUF / LICA) for the Costa degli Dei, Pizzo, Tropea, Catanzaro, Cosenza and the Sila. It has a single runway of about 3,000 m, compulsory handling, a dedicated FBO and a slot system. Reggio Calabria (REG / LICR), about 106 km to the south, suits Reggio, Scilla and the Strait of Messina, and on the same light jet from Biggin Hill it is priced about £300 higher than Lamezia. Crotone (CRV / LIBC) serves the Ionian side and the nearest edge of the Sila.

4Do I need a visa or a landing permit for Lamezia Terme?

Britain is outside Schengen and Italy is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs at the first Italian landing. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport less than ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A British operator running a charter is a third-country carrier, so ENAC, the Italian civil aviation authority, authorises the flight as well, and its published deadline is at least 24 hours for air taxi flights and five days for a single ad hoc charter. We track the permit together with the slot.

5How far is Tropea from the airport, and can I go by helicopter?

Tropea is about 58 km from Lamezia airport and takes about an hour by road; Pizzo is about 29 km and 25 minutes, and Capo Vaticano is about 9 km from Tropea. A helicopter covers Tropea in about 19 minutes if the landing site is agreed first. Customs and immigration at Lamezia are not offered round the clock, so a very late arrival should be agreed beforehand.

6Can I take my dog to Calabria on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and an EU country such as Italy asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used. Italy does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, but a dog needs one from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
