Private jet charter in Kos

Kos is the Greek island that most British holidaymakers already know from a charter seat, and a private jet puts you there in a little under four hours from the London fields, without the August queue at the terminal. Private Jets UK plans every Kos charter around the three things that make the island different from the mainland: a small separate lounge that business aviation has to use, a summer calendar that ties up slots and parking, and a stretch of water to the east where Turkey is close enough to see. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The runway is 2,400 m long and the airfield sits at Antimachia, in the middle of the island, so the flight itself is the easy part, and the planning goes into the ground side: the lounge, the slot, and the road or the ferry at the other end.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Kos depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Phenom 300E and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Kos?

About 3 hours 40 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, a little over four hours from Manchester and Birmingham in a midsize, and about four and a quarter from Scotland, with a two-hour clock change on arrival because Greece keeps Eastern European time. At 1,501 to 1,780 nautical miles from the British fields we use, Kos sits at the far end of what a light jet flies without a stop, which is why a midsize cabin appears next to it in most quotes. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave Biggin Hill at seven in the morning and you land at Kos shortly before one o'clock local time, because the flight takes three hours forty minutes in a Phenom and Greece is two hours ahead of Britain. The airport is at Antimachia, in the middle of the island, and the road to Kos Town is about 24 km and takes roughly half an hour, so lunch in the old harbour is realistic on the same day. Kardamena is only 6 km from the apron and Kefalos about 17 km, so a party staying on the south coast reaches its hotel in less than half an hour. Count on roughly five hours from a London front door to a table on the island.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to four people with ordinary luggage, a light jet is the cheapest way to arrive and the runway is long enough for it without any special planning. At three hours forty minutes it is a longer sit than most light-jet flights, and we say so in the quote;

– With six people, a pile of beach luggage and children, we price a midsize jet beside the light one, so that you can see both figures. The cabin makes the longest leg of the week a good deal easier and the hold takes the pushchairs and golf bags;

– A heavy jet is for a large family party, for a trip that carries on to the Gulf, or when the same aircraft stays with you for several stops. The 2,400 m runway is comfortable for all of these, and the real limit is parking, which we settle before the quote leaves us.

Domestic legs and the Turkish side: who can fly them

Bodrum is 40 nautical miles from Kos and Rhodes 55, but the two are different kinds of trip. Kos to Bodrum crosses a border, so it is an ordinary international leg, with Schengen passport control at one end and Turkish control at the other. Kos to Rhodes, Santorini or Athens is a domestic Greek flight, and a non-EU operator, which since Brexit includes the British ones, may not carry passengers between two Greek airports. We therefore price those rows as a guide and fly them with an operator that is entitled to domestic traffic, or advise a ferry or a scheduled flight when that is simply better.

Before you accept an onward quote from Kos

– Which aircraft flies the leg. A domestic Greek sector needs an EU-registered operator, so the aircraft that brought you from London is usually not the one that takes you on, and we say which one it is when we quote;

– Whether it is one booking. Kos to Bodrum and back to Kos, or Kos to Rhodes and on to Athens, costs less as a single plan because the crew and the aircraft stay with you, but the parking at each end has to be requested together and confirmed before the price is.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h
Long-haul jet (Global 5000, G550, Falcon 7X)£5,800 - 8,800/h
Business linersfrom £10,300/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Kos:

Light jets, for up to four people

Nearly four hours is a long light-jet sector, but it works for a small party with modest luggage, and the saving over a midsize cabin covers a good part of the week on the island.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, the usual choice for a family week

The hold fills faster than the seats: beach bags, a pushchair, a week of clothes for children. A midsize cabin makes the long leg comfortable for five to eight people and takes the luggage without argument.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a party travelling as one group, for a team that wants to work in the air, or for a trip that carries on from Kos to the Gulf. The 2,400 m runway suits all of these, and the day's temperature and the parking plan are checked before we quote.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the hops across the water: Bodrum and Rhodes are about half an hour in the air, and the saving over a jet on those distances is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a hop to Nisyros, a day on Kalymnos, a transfer from the airport to a villa on the coast. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote, never on the day.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Kos is a long way from the British fleet, so for a booking in the summer peak an aircraft is often positioned from Athens, Rome, Milan or the Turkish coast, and the quote may name one of those places as the starting point. That is normal for an island airport with almost no based aircraft, and it is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Kos

One airport serves the island, and the choice that matters is whether the aircraft lands there or across the water. The other airports below earn their place as a second landing point, a parking place or the way into the neighbouring islands.

Airport What it gives you
Kos Island International Airport "Hippocrates"
KGS / LGKO
The only airport on the island, at Antimachia, about 24 km from Kos Town by the provincial road to Kefalos and 126 m above sea level. One asphalt runway, 14/32, 2,400 m long, run by Fraport Greece. Most of the traffic is charter and leisure, with the British and the Germans the largest groups, so the terminal is crowded at weekends in July and August. Business aviation uses a small lounge outside the terminal, which is compulsory; slots and prior permission are required, and handlers listed for the airport include Signature, Jetset Services, Pandair and Universal Aviation
Milas-Bodrum
BJV / LTFE
Across the water in Turkey, 40 nautical miles from Kos. Two parallel runways of 3,000 m and 2,500 m, a general aviation terminal run by TAV and, according to the handlers' guide, no curfew. It is the choice when the trip is really to the Turkish coast and Kos is a day out by ferry; slots are mandatory and parking is limited from April to October. Passengers arriving from Greece go through Turkish passport control, and a leg to Kos ends in a Schengen arrival
Rhodes Diagoras
RHO / LGRP
The big airport of the southern Dodecanese, 55 nautical miles from Kos and about 14 km from Rhodes Town. One asphalt runway, 06/24, 3,305 m long and 60 m wide, run by Fraport Greece like Kos, with a small general aviation apron of three positions for small propeller or jet aircraft. A second landing point for a two-island trip, and a name to put on the list when parking at Kos is the problem
Athens Eleftherios Venizelos
ATH / LGAV
Greece's main airport, about 20 km east of the city centre and about 30 km by road. Two parallel runways of 4,000 m and 3,800 m, and a general aviation terminal run by Swissport Executive Aviation, which is listed as the only FBO, open at all hours, with customs and immigration on site. 172 nautical miles from Kos, the place to go when a trip combines the islands with the mainland, or when an aircraft has to park
Kalymnos Island
JKL / LGKY
A 1,135 m asphalt runway, 10/28, run by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority and used by Sky Express for flights to Athens, Kos, Leros, Rhodes and Astypalaia. A turboprop and small-aircraft field, and the sea crossing from Kos is shorter than any flight you would put into it

Four points settle most Kos arrivals:

Handling and the general aviation lounge

Security, customs and passport checks for a private flight take place in a small lounge outside the main terminal, and using it is listed as mandatory. The handlers' guides give a flat charge of about £1,700 for each leg that carries passengers in the summer months, plus VAT for non-EU operators, and the same price applies whichever handler you use. A trip with passengers both ways therefore carries about £3,400. We confirm the handler in writing before the quote, and the fee appears as its own line.

Slots and prior permission

Slots and prior permission from the airport operator are required at Kos, and the handler requests both. In Greece a slot can be asked for up to 14 days ahead, with a tolerance of 15 minutes either side, and an unused slot has to be cancelled at least 12 hours before; the penalties for operating without one are heavy. Overnight parking is not something to assume in the peak months, so the usual plan is to drop the party and position the aircraft elsewhere.

Border and passport

Greece is in the EU and the Schengen area and Britain is in neither, so you clear the border in the lounge. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints at the EU entry system, though the Greek authorities have said they will not take them from British travellers, so follow the officer's instructions.

Car, boat and late nights

Give the driver the handler as well as the flight, because the lounge is not the terminal and a driver who is told only "airport" may wait in the wrong place. The road to Kos Town is a half-hour drive and to Kefalos about twenty minutes, so a late arrival is a late dinner rather than a problem. Plan the villa, the car and the boat in one message, and confirm the opening hours of customs with the handler, because overtime is rarely approved.

business aviation

Landing permits, the Schengen border and the way home

A private flight into Greece does not usually need a separate landing permit. What it needs is the prior permission and the slot, issued through the handler, and passengers on a private flight sign a declaration before departure that no fare has been paid. A charter is different: operators from outside the EU, which since Brexit includes British ones, need a permit from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority for charter flights, applied for at least five working days ahead. Charter flights by a British operator are allowed on the UK - Greece - UK routing, and the rule that catches clients out is that the same aircraft may not carry passengers between two Greek airports. London to Kos nonstop is therefore fine, London to Kos and on to Rhodes in the same aircraft is not, and for a trip that needs both we propose a different plan. We arrange the permits and say plainly when a trip cannot be flown as drawn.

For the flight home, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and any passenger who needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation for the UK must hold it before boarding. British and Irish citizens are exempt. The same handler who arranged the arrival files the paperwork for the departure, and in summer the lounge fee applies to each leg with passengers. Cash worth about £8,500 or more must be declared on entry to the EU.

From the apron to Kos Town

Kos is a long, narrow island, about 42 km from end to end, and the airport sits near the middle of it. Everything clients ask about is within an hour by road, and the sea crossings to the neighbours are shorter than the drive across the island.

Airport to Kos Town
about 24 km by the road to Kefalos, past Antimachia and the island's interior
about 30 minutes
Kos Town to the Asklepieion
the sanctuary of healing on a wooded hill, about 3.4 to 4 km from the town; three terraces, the temple of Apollo with seven restored columns and a view of the sea from the top
about 10 minutes by car
Airport to Kardamena
about 6 km, the lively south-coast resort, with a long summer season and a crowd of young holidaymakers
8 to 10 minutes
Airport to Tigaki
about 15 km; a sandy north-coast resort roughly 10 km west of Kos Town, with the Alykes salt lake 400 m from the village
17 to 20 minutes
Airport to Kefalos
about 17 km; the old whitewashed village on the western end, with Kamari Bay and the islet of Kastri and its chapel; about 40 km from Kos Town
19 to 25 minutes
Kos to Bodrum by ferry
the passenger boat from the port of Kos next to the old town to the Bodrum cruise port; daily in the high season from April to October, a passport needed and most boats carry no cars
20 to 30 minutes
Kos to Kalymnos by ferry
from Kos port to Pothia, the island's capital and the home of the sponge-diving museum; a fast boat takes about 35 minutes and the winter timetable is much thinner
about 35 to 40 minutes
Kos to Nisyros by ferry
from Kos port to Mandraki, below the volcano; the fastest boat takes 50 minutes and the slowest 1 hour 30, with around six crossings a week from June to September
50 minutes at best
Mastichari or Kos to Pserimos by boat
a small island north of Kos with one quay and a main beach; about 20 minutes from Mastichari and about 30 from Kos, with roughly 18 crossings a week from June to September
20 to 30 minutes

Four ends of one island, and who goes where

– Kos Town. The harbour with the Knights' fortress at its entrance, the ancient agora, the archaeological museum and the old plane tree called after Hippocrates. It suits a short stay, a day on foot, and anyone who wants the ferry to Bodrum or Kalymnos on the doorstep, and it is the longest of the four transfers from the airport;

– Kardamena. The nearest resort to the apron, with bars, nightclubs and watersports, and a population that roughly triples between June and September. A party of friends or an older family group who want the beach at the door choose it;

– Tigaki. A north-coast resort about 10 km from Kos Town, with a sandy beach and the Alykes salt lake close behind it. It is nearer to the town than Kardamena is, so dinner in the harbour is an easy evening;

– Kefalos. The far west, with Kamari Bay, clear-water beaches, many of them Blue Flag, and the whitewashed upper village. It is closer to the airport than Kos Town is, and the boats to Nisyros and Kalymnos also leave from Kamari.

Flying to Kos with a dog or a cat

Greece asks for more paperwork than the flight takes time, and the flight is long enough for a dog to settle and sleep. The animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold. The detail that goes wrong is the date on the health certificate, which is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU, and the second detail is the airport at which the animal is allowed to arrive. On that second point Kos has the advantage over most of the Greek islands.

private flight with animals

What Greece asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before the animal travels;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, presented at a designated point of entry. The Greek foreign ministry's list of island entry points names both the port and the airport of Kos, as well as Kalymnos, Rhodes and Heraklion, but not Mykonos;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Kos run

– The vet at the end. Britain asks for the tapeworm treatment on the way home, so it is an appointment you book on the island towards the end of the stay, and a flight that moves by a day can move the 24 to 120 hour window out of reach. In August a vet in Kos Town is not an easy booking, and a Kefalos villa adds a long drive to it;

– The ferry. A day on Bodrum or Kalymnos with a dog is a different matter from a day on the beach. The boats to Bodrum take leashed animals or animals in a carrier, but a crossing to Turkey and back means passport control twice and a Turkish border the paperwork for the dog does not cover. Leave the dog at the villa on those days unless we have planned the paperwork;

– Everything else that has to accept the dog. A villa, a boat and a helicopter each set their own rules, and a helicopter operator will want the animal's weight counted in the payload. Settle all of them before the quote.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the airport of entry and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Kos calendar: a long season with a quiet winter

Kos is a summer island with a swimming season that runs from May to October. From November to March it is mild and wet, and most seasonal tavernas, boat charters and hotels close, so a winter charter is possible but the island is largely shut. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

November to March
The quiet season. Seasonal tavernas, boat operators and many hotels are closed, the winter ferry timetable is thin, and strong winds between November and February can delay or cancel boats to Kalymnos. Business aviation can be arranged in a day or two, and prices are at their lowest. A good time for the Asklepieion and Kos Town without the crowd
April
The season opens. The Bodrum ferry starts its daily crossings, and the feast of Agios Georgios brings horse races to the village of Pyli. The sea is still cool and the island is quiet
May
The sea is about 20 degrees, so swimming is brisk rather than warm, and the beaches and the south coast are quiet. Parking at the airport is still easy. A good month for the sights, for cycling and for a villa without the August price
June
The summer edition of the Hippocratia festival starts early in the month and runs on to the autumn, with concerts, exhibitions, sports and the re-enactment of the Hippocratic oath at the Asklepieion. The ferries to Kalymnos, Nisyros and Pserimos move to their summer timetable and the airport starts to fill with charter traffic
July
Busy and hot, with daytime highs often in the low to mid 30s. The meltemi reaches Kos, though with less force than in the central Cyclades, so most days are manageable for sailing. Slots and parking tighten, and the family villa weeks begin
August
The peak of the year. On 15 August the Dormition of the Virgin is celebrated in Antimachia and Kefalos, a wine festival is held at Mastichari, the honey festival follows in Antimachia on the first Saturday after the holiday, and the fish festival at Kefalos runs between the first half of August and the first days of September. Agios Ioannis is marked on 29 August in Mastichari, Kardamena and Kefalos. The sea is around 26 degrees
September
The best month for value: the sea is at its warmest, the crowds thin out considerably after early September when the school holidays end, and aircraft and slots are easier to find. The last days of the fish festival at Kefalos fall in the first days of the month
October
Warm in the air, in the low to mid 20s, and the sea is still close to its summer peak. The Hippocratia festival ends towards the end of the month, climbers arrive on neighbouring Kalymnos for its climbing festival, and across the water Bodrum holds its Bodrum Cup regatta in the third week
April to October
Ferry season. The Bodrum boats run daily, the Nisyros boats go from about three crossings a week in the quieter months to about six in summer, and the excursions to the smaller islands run from Kos port and from Kamari. Outside it, plan around the operator's confirmed timetable

Why a July weekend costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Kos is reachable from every part of it. What gets tight is the airport itself: business aviation shares the slots and the apron with a heavy programme of holiday charters, and overnight parking at popular Greek islands is not something to assume in the peak months. Because the aircraft often cannot stay, a weekend is usually two separate flights for the operator, one in and one out, with the aircraft parked elsewhere or flying empty in between, and that is paid for. A booking made two weeks before an August weekend can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Athens, Rome or the Turkish coast at a higher price. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. In winter the slot pressure disappears, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Kos price down

  • Move the dates out of July and August where you can. September is warm, the sea is at its best, and the airport is far easier to book;
  • Compare the airports. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill, Bodrum comes out at the same figure as Kos, Rhodes about £650 higher and Athens about £1,800 lower. Athens is the only real saving, and you then take a second flight or a ferry, so let the place you are sleeping decide;
  • Send the slot request with the first message. The handler asks for it up to 14 days ahead, and an early request is likelier to meet an easier slot.

Types of flights

Kos produces a different mix from the cities we cover, because people go there for the sea, the family and the history, not for meetings. Almost everything is leisure, and most of it is planned months ahead.

  • Family villa weeks in Kardamena, Tigaki or Kefalos, flown out on a Friday or Saturday and back a week or a fortnight later, usually with children and a large amount of luggage;
  • Short city breaks to Kos Town, with a morning at the Asklepieion, an afternoon in the harbour and a boat to Nisyros or Kalymnos;
  • Yacht and sailing trips, joining a boat in Kos harbour or on the Turkish coast across the water;
  • Hops to Bodrum across the border, and to Rhodes or Santorini within Greece, by turboprop or a short jet sector, the domestic ones flown by an operator entitled to carry them;
  • Culture trips built around the Asklepieion and the Hippocratia festival, usually in the shoulder months;
  • Weddings and events on the south coast, where a group of guests has to arrive in the same hour.

A same-day return is the one pattern that does not work. The sector alone is close to four hours each way, and the aircraft often cannot wait on the apron in the busy months, so it cannot stay for you. A short stay is therefore planned as two separate one-way flights, and we quote it that way, so the figure you see is the one you pay.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Kos route the aircraft that cannot stay on the apron produce a steady supply of them, and it helps to know where they come from.

Where Kos empty legs come from

– Every drop-and-go. An aircraft that has brought a family to the island leaves empty to park elsewhere, and the leg that follows to Athens, Italy or the Turkish coast is the one most often offered;

– The start and the end of the season. In April and May and again in October operators move aircraft between Britain and the Aegean, and a one-way repositioning flight can appear on either side of a charter week;

– The weekend changeover. Holiday weeks tend to start and end on the same days, and a family that flies out and another that flies home on the same day produce outbound legs to London and the continent.

Because the corridor is far thinner in winter than in the peak, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Kos match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

On the southern Dodecanese a helicopter competes with a boat for the same job, which is the last stretch between a runway and somewhere that has none. The sea crossings here are short and the boats frequent in summer, so a helicopter wins when the ferry is thin, the weather is difficult or the time is worth more than the fare.

Kos to Nisyros
12 nautical miles to Mandraki, where a helipad is listed, against 50 minutes to 1 hour 30 on the boat
about 15 minutes
Kos to Kalymnos
13 nautical miles across the strait to the island of sponge divers and climbers, against about 35 minutes on the fast ferry
about 15 minutes
Kos to Rhodes
55 nautical miles, a day trip to the old town of Rhodes for a party staying on the south coast of Kos
about 35 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent. The helipad at Mandraki on Nisyros is listed in a helipad database, but the entry does not say that it is in use, so we confirm the site before the quote is written, not after it;

– Weight and weather set the schedule. The payload of a private charter is limited, and the meltemi, though gentler here than in the Cyclades, can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so an island transfer needs a boat alternative planned into the same day;

– Book early. In the peak months helicopter seats can sell out, and the operator needs the booking days ahead, not hours.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for island and coastal work, the wider H130 for villa and harbour transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Kos charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

FAMILY WEEK · THE LOUNGE AND THE LUGGAGE

Seven people for a week in Kardamena

Southampton - Kos, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 55 min · 7 pax

Two adults, a grandmother and four children, with pushchairs and a case of beach gear. The slot request went in with the first message, the aircraft dropped the party and flew on to park elsewhere, and a driver met them at the lounge for the six kilometres to the hotel. The lounge fee was part of the quote, shown as its own line.

A KOS TOWN BREAK · THE ASKLEPIEION AND A BOAT

A couple and friends for four days

Farnborough - Kos, Phenom 300E, about 3 h 45 min · 4 pax

They wanted the old town, a morning at the Asklepieion before the heat and a boat to Nisyros. The transfer from the lounge took about half an hour, the hotel was in the harbour area, and the day on the volcano was booked on the ferry rather than the helicopter, which stayed in reserve for a day of wind.

A BODRUM DAY · THE BORDER TWICE

Six friends and a day across the water

London Luton - Kos, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 55 min · 6 pax

The jet landed at Kos and the group took the morning boat to Bodrum with passports in hand, passing Turkish control on arrival and Schengen control on the way back. The alternative, a flight to Milas-Bodrum, would have saved the boat but added a longer transfer and the Turkish slot to the bill.

A JUNE WEEK · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a labrador on the island

Southampton - Kos, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 55 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and we confirmed in writing that Kos is on the Greek list of island entry points. The vet appointment for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home, and the villa in Tigaki accepted the dog. Everything was settled in a single exchange of messages.

A SEPTEMBER WEEK · THE QUIET MONTH

A family, once the school holidays are over

Farnborough - Kos, Phenom 300E, about 3 h 45 min · 4 pax

They moved the dates from August to the second week of September and found aircraft easier to get, a warmer sea and a lower figure. The slot was still required, but the pressure was gone and the departure was timed for the evening.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST

A jet already going your way

Kos - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 3 h 45 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a family in for the week and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Kos

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Kos?

About 3 hours 40 minutes from London City and Biggin Hill in a light jet, and around 3 hours 45 minutes from Luton or Farnborough in a Phenom, covering roughly 1,501 to 1,528 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 4 hours 5 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 4 hours 15 minutes. Greece is two hours ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands at about one o'clock local time.

2How much does a private jet to Kos cost?

From about £19,150 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, £19,200 from London City, and £19,500 from Farnborough or Luton. A midsize cabin runs £24,400 to £25,250 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £33,900 to £34,450. July, August and the school-holiday weekends can price above these figures, and the general aviation lounge charge at the airport, about £1,700 per leg with passengers in the summer months, is quoted separately.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Kos?

Kos Island International Airport (KGS / LGKO) is the only airport on the island, at Antimachia, about 24 km from Kos Town, with one runway of 2,400 m. Business aviation uses a small lounge outside the terminal, which is mandatory, and slots and prior permission are required. Milas-Bodrum (BJV / LTFE) across the water is priced at about the same figure from Biggin Hill on the same light jet and suits a trip that is really to the Turkish coast, with the Kos ferry taking 20 to 30 minutes.

4Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Kos?

Britain is outside the EU and Schengen and Greece is inside both, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival, in the general aviation lounge. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A British operator needs a permit from the Greek civil aviation authority for charter flights and cannot carry passengers between two Greek airports. The operator and our team handle the aircraft paperwork, including the permits and the slot.

5Can I fly on from Kos to Bodrum, Nisyros, Kalymnos or Pserimos?

Bodrum is 40 nautical miles from Kos, about 30 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, but the passenger ferry from Kos port takes only 20 to 30 minutes and needs a passport. Nisyros has a ferry of 50 minutes to 1 hour 30 and a helipad listed at Mandraki, about 15 minutes by helicopter. Kalymnos is about 35 minutes by fast ferry, and its 1,135 m runway is a turboprop field. Pserimos is a boat trip of about 20 minutes from Mastichari or about 30 from Kos, with no airfield.

6Can I take my dog to Kos on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Greece asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used. Kos airport appears on the Greek foreign ministry's list of island entry points, which many Greek airports do not, and we confirm it in writing for your dates. A dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
