Private jet charter in Friedrichshafen
A light jet that leaves a Kent or Surrey airfield after an early breakfast crosses the Channel, the Rhine and the edge of the Black Forest in about an hour and a half and lets down beside a lake with three countries on its shores. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around the airport hours, the fair and festival dates and the length of the stay. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Friedrichshafen is the German port on that lake, a town of engineers, airships and trade fairs, and the airport is the one fixed point of the trip. It keeps weekday hours that end at 22:00, shortens them at weekends, and is a short lake crossing from Switzerland and a short drive from Austria, which is why almost every booking here turns on the date, the border you want to cross and the cabin size, in that order.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Friedrichshafen depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Friedrichshafen?
Block time is one hour thirty-five from Biggin Hill in a light jet and a little over two hours from Edinburgh. Put the watch forward an hour on landing, since Germany runs on Central European time. The sectors measure 447 to 741 nautical miles, which is comfortable for a light jet out of the south of England and starts to favour a midsize cabin from the Midlands northwards. Every British field we use is in the table.

From Kent to the quay
An early slot from Biggin Hill puts the aircraft on the 2,356 m runway before ten, local time. From there the quay, the Zeppelin Museum and the lakeside hotels are a short drive, because the airfield lies only about 3 km north of the town centre. Count the car to Kent, the quick processing at both ends and the transfer, and central London to the water's edge takes roughly three and a half to four hours. An airline route through Frankfurt or Munich, with a train or a hired car at the end, seldom matches that, and the airlines' own services into Friedrichshafen run mostly in summer and are few.
Which cabin size, and why
– Four passengers and ordinary suitcases fit a Citation CJ3+ without fuss, and the extra for a midsize Citation XLS+ from Biggin Hill is about £1,700 one way, which buys cabin height and hold space rather than speed;
– Skis, golf bags, a dog or a stand's worth of boat-show samples change the picture. We then put a midsize quote beside the light one, since winter kit fills a hold long before it fills the seats;
– A large jet is for a party that must travel together, or for a trip where the lake is only the first stop on a longer run through the Alps.

When the jet is the wrong tool
Zurich lies only 43 nautical miles away, barely more than a take-off and a landing, and Munich 104. The road to Zurich Airport is about 119 km and an hour and a half, the catamaran reaches Konstanz in under an hour, and the shore trains serve Lindau and Bregenz. An aircraft pays for itself when a connection is waiting at the other end, when the group is big, or when it stays with you for a second leg into the mountains. If a car or a boat does the job better, we say so.
Before you accept an onward quote from Friedrichshafen
– Check the departure time against the airport hours. The day closes at 22:00 on weekdays and by 20:00 at weekends and on holidays, so a dinner or a performance that runs late forces a new quote;
– Ask for the whole itinerary as one booking. A chain such as Friedrichshafen to Zurich to Nice costs clearly less than three quotes, since the same crew and aircraft stay with you and nothing repositions between legs.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Friedrichshafen:
Light jets, and where most bookings land
For four or five people with normal luggage this class does the job in about an hour and a half. The airport names the Citation Sovereign, the Phenom 300 and the Pilatus PC-12 among its busiest private types, and a 2,356 m runway gives every light jet plenty in hand.
Midsize, for ski kit and a longer stay
Ski bags, boots, a week of lake-house luggage and the extra cabin height make a midsize jet the comfortable choice for a family, and it carries a boat-show party and its paperwork without a squeeze.
Super-midsize and large
For a group travelling as one party, for a team that works in the air on the way to a plant visit, and for trips that carry on from the lake to the Mediterranean rather than turning round.
Turboprops
Suited to the short onward legs to Zurich, Munich, Frankfurt or the Engadin, none of which takes a turboprop more than an hour. Over such distances the saving against a jet is substantial.
Helicopters
These do not cross from Britain. They cover the last stretch to a lake villa, a ski hotel in Zürs or Lech, or a lunch in the Engadin. Germany, Austria and Switzerland each regulate landing sites on their own terms, so the site is agreed before we quote.

That is a sample of the market. The lake lies between the Zurich, Munich, Stuttgart and Memmingen traffic flows, so outside a fair week an aircraft is normally based within an hour of the airfield, and that is often where the keener price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Friedrichshafen
Friedrichshafen does the work on its own for most trips. Four other fields come up in quotes now and then, each for a particular reason, and they are worth knowing before one turns up on your paperwork.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Friedrichshafen, Bodensee Airport FDH / EDNY |
The answer for almost every trip. It stands on the northern shore, about 3 km from the town centre, with one asphalt runway, 06/24, of 2,356 m at 417 m above sea level. Runway 24 carries the more capable instrument approach and is listed to Category IIIb, which matters in lake fog, and runway 06 a Category I approach. The Messe Friedrichshafen exhibition centre stands directly north of the runway. Two handling agents work on the apron, Bodensee-Airport Handling and AVICON, and handling is listed as mandatory. Customs and immigration are listed, Jet A-1 is available, and slots are not required outside the AERO days. The airport also takes seasonal scheduled and holiday charter flights, so a business jet shares the apron in summer. The hours are limited, as described below |
| St. Gallen-Altenrhein ACH / LSZR |
The Swiss alternative on the south-eastern shore, about 21 km across the water from Friedrichshafen and about 45 km by car or ferry. A runway of roughly 1,450 m with a Category I instrument approach on runway 10, so light and midsize jets are the natural fit and larger cabins are checked with the operator. The ExecuJet FBO offers a private terminal, crew lounge, hangar, customs and immigration, and the airport is a customs clearing airport. Published FBO hours are Monday to Friday 06:30 to 21:00 with a break from 12:00 to 13:30, with shorter hours at weekends. Choose it when the stay is on the Swiss side, remembering that a Swiss landing means Swiss customs and a customs border on the road back to Germany |
| Zurich ZRH / LSZH |
The large-airport option, about 76 km in a straight line and roughly an hour and a half by road, with runways of up to 3,700 m and no aircraft type that cannot use it. Zurich is slot coordinated and closes to ordinary traffic late in the evening, so it suits a long Swiss programme with a drive to the lake better than a quick lakeside meeting. A sensible fall-back for a large cabin when the aircraft is too big for Friedrichshafen's apron or the weather closes the lake |
| Memmingen Allgäu FMM / EDJA |
The German alternative on the other side of the hills, roughly 82 km and an hour by road from Friedrichshafen. A runway of 2,981 m with a Category I instrument approach on runway 24, a general aviation apron on the far side of the field and a Ryanair base, so it is busy with low-cost traffic by day. Useful when lake weather shuts Friedrichshafen and the meeting cannot move, and for a party whose real destination is the Allgäu or Bavaria. We confirm customs and business aviation hours for the date |
| Hohenems-Dornbirn LOIH |
A small public aerodrome near Dornbirn in the Rhine valley. Vorarlberg has no civil airport of its own, and for jet traffic the real options on this side of the mountains are Friedrichshafen, Altenrhein and Zurich. We list the field because it appears on maps of the Austrian shore, not because we plan jets into it |
Four points settle most Friedrichshafen arrivals:
Choose the handler
Two agents work on the apron: the airport's own Bodensee-Airport Handling and AVICON, which lists passenger and aircraft handling, VIP handling and a limousine service. Handling is listed as mandatory. We confirm who is handling you, and where the fuel and the catering come from, before the quote and not on the day.
Hours and permission
Monday to Friday the airport is open from 06:00 to 22:00. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays it opens at 09:00 and closes 30 minutes after sunset, never later than 20:00. Outside those hours there is generally no traffic apart from medical flights and flights approved by the authorities. A weekend extension needs permission asked one working day ahead and costs extra, and a weekday extension is for home-based and scheduled aircraft only.
Border and passport
Britain is outside Schengen, so passports and customs are checked on landing. A British traveller stays up to 90 days in any 180 without a visa, on a passport less than ten years old and valid three months beyond departure, and a first-time arrival may have a photo and fingerprints taken for the Entry/Exit System. For the return, the General Aviation Report goes in between 48 and 2 hours before departure.
Car, boat and the last 3 km
The quay is minutes from the apron by car, the station and bus stops stand at the terminal, and the ferries and the catamaran sail from the harbour. Tell us the hotel and the harbour berth as well as the flight, so the driver waits at the right door, and order the car with the quote when AERO or the boat show is on.

Border, passport and three shores
Landing at Friedrichshafen settles the formalities in one place: the handler arranges customs and immigration and the car waits at the aircraft. After that the road stays inside Schengen. Lindau is in Bavaria and Bregenz in Austria, and neither shows a border post. Switzerland is the exception for goods: travellers cross freely, but the country sits outside the EU customs area, so a day on the Swiss shore means declaring what you carry at the crossing, and anyone planning to buy watches or bring back wine should know that in advance.

From the apron to the lakefront
Friedrichshafen has about 62,000 residents and lost much of its old centre to bombing in the last war, so the lakeside promenade, the harbour and the museums matter more than medieval streets. It is also where Count Zeppelin's airships were built, and the industry that grew round them is still the town's business: ZF, which began as the maker of gears for airships, the Rolls-Royce Power Systems engine works that descends from Maybach and MTU, Zeppelin's own airship engineering, and the Zeppelin University. Airbus Defence and Space keeps a site at nearby Immenstaad, which is regarded as the successor to Dornier.

Visitors spend their time on the lake. The Zeppelin Museum stands on the waterfront in a restored harbour railway station of the 1930s and holds a 33 m reconstruction of a section of the Hindenburg, which visitors can walk through. The Dornier Museum beside the airport shows Claude Dornier's aircraft, from flying boats to the Dornier 228 and 328 and the Alpha Jet, along with satellites and space probes. On the water, Mainau, the flower island run by the Bernadotte foundation and part of Konstanz, is the classic day trip, Meersburg has two castles and vineyards climbing to the shore, and Lindau sits on its island with a harbour lighthouse that is the only one in Bavaria. Across the lake Bregenz has its festival, and beyond the Rhine valley the Alps begin.
Business keeps the town busy outside the season. Plant visits at ZF and the engine works, meetings at Zeppelin, delegations at Immenstaad and the fairs at the Messe next door make Friedrichshafen a working town first and a resort second. A morning meeting, lunch on the quay and the evening flight home is an everyday booking, and the 22:00 weekday limit seldom gets in its way.
Flying to Friedrichshafen with a dog or a cat
Pets fly in the cabin with you on a private jet, and the paperwork takes longer than the journey. Two things need care: the date on the health certificate, which lapses ten days after it is issued, and the plan for any day trip that takes the animal across the water into Switzerland or Austria.

The German entry checklist:
- A microchip, put in before the rabies jab or at the same appointment, never afterwards;
- A rabies vaccination given from 12 weeks of age, with 21 days passed before you travel;
- An Animal Health Certificate signed by an Official Veterinarian, dated no more than ten days before entry to the EU and valid for the return as stated on the certificate;
- A limit of five animals per traveller, shown at the first point of entry into the EU, which the handler coordinates at the terminal;
- For dogs only, a vet's tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before the flight back to Britain, with the product, date and time written in the record (cats are exempt).
What catches owners out on the lake
– The tapeworm treatment belongs to the journey home, so the vet visit happens on the German side of the lake near the end of the stay. The 24 to 120 hour window is narrow over a weekend, and a Sunday flight must also fit the airport's shorter day;
– A GB pet passport does not open the EU border, and Switzerland keeps its own rules. German paperwork does not cover a day on the Swiss shore, so we check the Swiss position in writing well before the date;
– Ferries, cable cars and hotels each decide for themselves whether a dog may come aboard, and a helicopter operator must agree to an animal separately, so we settle those before the quote. On the way back to Britain we confirm the entry point and the animal's paperwork in writing before the flight.
Rules for cats, ferrets, birds and rarer pets are gathered in our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm them in writing for your dates before we accept a booking.
The Friedrichshafen calendar: a trade fair, a lake stage and a long season
The lake has a rhythm of its own. A fair in April, flowers from spring to autumn, an opera on the water in high summer, boats in September and snow in the Alps from the turn of the year decide which week you want, and knowing it matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why a fair week costs more
The flying is not the issue, because plenty of aircraft are based within reach in Zurich, Munich and Stuttgart. The strain falls on the apron and the clock. While AERO runs, every arrival and departure of a privately flown aircraft needs a slot from the airport, helicopters included, and the apron is shared with the show. Anything leaving after the published day needs permission first. Book two weeks ahead and the trip is still possible, at a higher price and perhaps with an aircraft brought in from abroad. Book six weeks ahead and it is simpler and cheaper, while outside fair and festival weeks a day or two is normally enough.
Ways to bring the Friedrichshafen price down
- Shift the dates by a few days if you can. The gap between the fair and the festival and the quiet part of late autumn are the calmest stretches;
- Ask where the aircraft sits. One already at Zurich, Munich, Stuttgart or Memmingen needs far less positioning than one flown out from Britain, and on a sector this short that is a real part of the bill;
- Choose the light jet unless the baggage argues against it. A party of four with four cases does not need a midsize, and the difference is better spent on the lake;
- Plan to leave well inside the published day. A weekday departure before 22:00 or a weekend one before sunset removes the permission step.
Types of flights
The mix here differs from a capital city's. Friedrichshafen is a trade-fair venue, an engineering centre and a lake resort at the edge of the Alps, and bookings reflect all three.
- Trade fair trips for AERO in April and the boat show in September, from owners and companies who fly in themselves or charter in;
- Corporate visits to ZF, the engine works, Zeppelin and the Airbus site at Immenstaad, often out and back in a day;
- Lake weekends with a Zeppelin flight, Mainau, Meersburg and Lindau, usually four to six people and a car at the apron;
- Festival nights at Bregenz in July and August, where the date and the airport hours have to be planned together;
- Winter trips to the Arlberg, Montafon and the Bregenzerwald, many with a helicopter on the last stretch;
- Combined trips with the Swiss shore, landing at Friedrichshafen and finishing at St. Gallen-Altenrhein or Zurich, or the other way round.
A same-day round trip deserves a quote of its own. The crew waits on the ground and you pay for the waiting, yet the total usually stays below two separate one-way charters. With the airport open until 22:00 on weekdays, a morning departure from Biggin Hill and an evening return to Kent is realistic, and we price the day trip next to the two one-way options so you can compare.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a positioning flight flown without passengers and sold at a fraction of the normal fare. On this route they follow the fair, the festival and the ski season, so it helps to know where they come from.
Where Friedrichshafen empty legs come from
– Fair days. Aircraft that brought visitors to AERO or the boat show often leave empty at the end, and that return is the one most often offered, subject to the airport's published hours;
– Ski weekends. Families land on a Friday for the Arlberg and the aircraft flies home empty, while the Sunday pick-up is released from the other direction;
– Business days. A plant visit that ends at lunch releases the aircraft, which then returns to base without anyone aboard.
Few aircraft shuttle on this corridor compared with the busiest London routes, so a window of several days gives you much better odds than a fixed evening. The trade-off is the usual one: the operator sets the date and the hour, and a leg disappears if its first booking moves. Open legs appear on our empty legs page, and we tell you the day one to Friedrichshafen is released.

Helicopter charter, and the airship
On Lake Constance the rotary question and the airship question are neighbours. The Zeppelin NT, the modern airship, is based at the airport, and its sightseeing flights run from April to mid-November over the lake, with routes to Meersburg, Lindau, Mainau, Bregenz and the Swiss shore and a two-hour tour that includes the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen. The flights last from 20 minutes to two hours and cost, per seat, from a couple of hundred pounds for the shortest hop to roughly a thousand for the long tour. It carries about a dozen passengers, and the operator also lists charter flights, so a private party can ask. An airship is an experience to book, not a transfer, and it is the most memorable thing a first-time lake visitor does. A helicopter, by contrast, does the work of getting somewhere.

Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot set down anywhere it likes. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland a landing off an approved airfield needs the landowner's consent and a permit from that country's aviation authority, so we confirm the status of a hotel lawn or a mountain site before the quote;
– Winter rotary work centres on the Austrian Arlberg. Operators in Vorarlberg and at Zürs fly the Airbus H125 and H135, and heli-skiing is allowed in Austria only around Lech and Zürs, with a guide and never at weekends or on public holidays;
– Weather decides. Cloud on the Alpine ridges can ground a helicopter on a day when the jet lands normally, and during AERO helicopters need a slot like any other aircraft, so each transfer carries a road fallback in the same plan.
For Alpine work the usual machine is the Airbus H125, the wider H130 suits scenic flights and villa transfers, and the H135 or Bell 429 serves where a twin is wanted. We book the helicopter with the jet so both crews follow one timetable. Local sightseeing flights also depart from Friedrichshafen, typically about half an hour over the lake.

Friedrichshafen charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs from our booking notes show how a quote becomes a flight, described in outline with the particulars changed.
LAKE WEEKEND · THREE COUNTRIES, ONE JET
Four friends, a Friday departure and a Sunday return
Biggin Hill - Friedrichshafen, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 35 min each way · 4 pax
They left on Friday morning, landed before ten local time and reached the quay minutes later. Saturday brought a Zeppelin flight over Mainau and Sunday morning a sail out of Lindau. The aircraft flew home on Sunday afternoon, comfortably inside the weekend hours, and the whole weekend was priced as a single trip with the jet standing by.
AERO · THE SLOT CAME FIRST
An owner and a colleague at the April fair
Southampton - Friedrichshafen, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 35 min · 2 pax
Own aircraft need a slot booked through the airport before they arrive during the show, so the slot was requested weeks ahead and the charter was built around the time it gave. A car took the pair to the halls, the aircraft was parked where the airport directed, and the return left on Saturday afternoon.
BREGENZ FESTIVAL · THE NIGHT BEFORE
Six people for an opera on the lake stage
London City - Friedrichshafen, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 35 min · 6 pax
A performance on the water typically ends after the airport has shut on a weekday, so the party stayed on the shore and flew home the next morning. We priced the aircraft waiting overnight against two one-way charters, and the client preferred to send it home and call it back.
CORPORATE · A DAY ON THE QUAY
A plant visit and a lunch on the quay
Manchester - Friedrichshafen, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 50 min each way · 5 pax
One meeting at an engineering works in the morning, a late lunch on the harbour, five people. The aircraft stayed at the apron while a car covered the town, and the party was airborne again in the late afternoon, long before the 22:00 close. The round trip cost less than two one-way charters.
SKI · JET AND HELICOPTER
A family of five for a winter week in the Arlberg
London Luton - Friedrichshafen, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 35 min · 5 pax
The midsize cabin swallowed the ski bags and boots, and a helicopter booked with the jet took the family from the airport to a hotel in Zürs, with a car held in reserve in case cloud shut the passes. Both crews worked to one timetable agreed before the quote.
EMPTY LEG · HOME ON THE SUNDAY
A jet already going your way
Friedrichshafen - London Luton, Citation CJ3+ empty leg, about 1 h 40 min · 3 pax
A party had flown in for the weekend and the aircraft was heading home empty. The client offered a three-day window rather than a date, which is how these deals work, and paid far less than a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday afternoon departure inside the weekend hours.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Friedrichshafen
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Friedrichshafen?
About 1 hour 35 minutes from Biggin Hill, London City, Farnborough or Luton in a light jet, covering 447 to 476 nautical miles. From Southampton allow 1 hour 35 minutes in a Phenom, from Birmingham about 1 hour 40 minutes, from Bristol 1 hour 45 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow roughly 2 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes. Local time in Germany is an hour ahead, so a wheels-up at seven from Biggin Hill means a landing at about half past nine on the lake clock.
2How much does a private jet to Friedrichshafen cost?
A light jet starts at about £6,900 one way from Biggin Hill, with London City at £6,950 and Luton at £7,250. A Phenom 300E from Southampton, Birmingham or Bristol costs £7,450 to £8,150, and Scottish departures run £15,500 to £15,950. AERO week, the Bregenz Festival and the ski weekends come out above those figures.
3Which airport should a private jet use for Friedrichshafen?
Friedrichshafen itself (FDH / EDNY), the Bodensee Airport, for almost every trip. It stands about 3 km north of the town on the lakeshore, has a 2,356 m runway and two handling agents on the apron, and is listed as an airport of entry. St. Gallen-Altenrhein (ACH / LSZR) on the Swiss shore, Zurich (ZRH / LSZH) and Memmingen (FMM / EDJA) are the alternatives, each with a different border position and different hours.
4Can a private jet land at Friedrichshafen in the evening or on a Sunday?
Within limits. General aviation runs from 06:00 to 22:00 on weekdays, and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 09:00 to half an hour after sunset, never beyond 20:00 local time. A weekend or holiday extension is generally possible if the airport is asked one working day ahead, and it costs extra. On weekdays only home-based and scheduled traffic gets one. We confirm the window for your date in writing.
5When should I book a private jet to Friedrichshafen?
In quiet weeks a day or two is often enough. For the AERO fair in April, the Interboot boat show in late September, the Bregenz Festival and the peak ski weekends, allow four to six weeks. During AERO an aircraft or helicopter needs a slot through the airport's own booking tool, which is reason enough to start early.
6Can I take my dog to Friedrichshafen on a private jet?
Yes, the dog rides in the cabin. Germany requires a microchip implanted before or together with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given from 12 weeks of age and at least 21 days earlier, and an Animal Health Certificate dated within ten days of entry. A dog returning to Britain also needs a vet's tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before landing; cats do not.
