Private jet charter in Saint Lucia
From a London airfield, Saint Lucia lies about 3,830 nautical miles to the south-west, across an ocean where the Azores are the only sensible place to stop. That single fact shapes every quote. Private Jets UK starts by asking how the party wants to cross: in one long hop in an ultra-long-range cabin, or in a Challenger-class jet with an hour on the ground in the Azores that takes a good deal off the bill. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. In Saint Lucia that means handling at Hewanorra, the long-runway airport at the southern tip where every jet from Europe lands, a decision on whether the smaller airfield at Castries can take your aircraft at all, and a car or a helicopter for the last stretch to the Pitons, a Rodney Bay marina berth or a hillside villa.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Saint Lucia depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Challenger 605 to Saint Lucia Hewanorra International with one technical stop in the Azores, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Saint Lucia?
Only the ultra-long-range jets cover the distance without touching down. A Challenger 605 or a Legacy 650, which is what most parties of six to eight actually book, needs one fuel stop, and the natural place for it is Santa Maria in the Azores, almost on the straight line. From Biggin Hill the two legs are 1,429 and 2,462 nautical miles, a mere 61 beyond the direct 3,830, so the detour costs next to nothing in distance and about an hour on the ground in time. Saint Lucia has no summer time: it is four hours behind Britain in winter and five in summer. The times below are westbound, flown into the usual headwind, and do not include the stop:
3,891 nautical miles from Biggin Hill in two legs, with about an hour on the ground at Santa Mariaabout 9 h 30 min plus the stop
3,830 nautical miles from Biggin Hill in a heavy jet that can cover it in one sectorabout 9 h 20 min
3,798 nautical miles from Farnborough at normal long-range cruiseabout 8 h 25 min
3,830 nautical miles from Biggin Hill in the quickest cabin in the tableabout 8 h 20 min
3,682 nautical miles, the shortest crossing among the British airfields we priceabout 9 h
3,798 nautical miles with the jet stream pushing from behindabout 7 h 10 min
Why a quick weekend does not work
Take a Global 6000 that leaves Farnborough at nine on a winter morning. It lands at Hewanorra at about half past one in the afternoon by the island clock, when the passengers' bodies still keep London time and say it is nearly half past five. Add the drive across the mountains to Rodney Bay or Soufrière, and the first evening is gone. We price Saint Lucia as a stay of a week or more, or as a one-way sector with the aircraft going home empty.
The way back is shorter. The jet stream blows from west to east over the Atlantic, and an aircraft heading for Britain rides it: the Global 6000 that needs about 8 h 25 min westbound makes the return in about 7 h 10 min. The difference is largest in winter, which is also when most of our Saint Lucia passengers travel, so the two halves of a round trip rarely take the same time.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– On this route a fuel stop pays for itself. From Biggin Hill a Challenger 605 with the Azores stop starts at £78,250, a Legacy 650 on the same plan at £82,750, a Falcon 900LX flying straight through at £95,700 and a Gulfstream G650ER at £123,350, all arriving on the same runway at Hewanorra. The extra money buys a shorter day and a taller cabin. For four guests with ordinary luggage the hour at Santa Maria is a fair price for the saving, while a large family on a short stay usually prefers the long-range jet;
– A one-way price includes the aircraft's journey home. The jet has to recross the Atlantic whether it carries you or not, so a single outbound sector costs close to half of a return trip, not a bargain on top of it. Booked as a return, or fitted to an empty leg, a stay of a fortnight changes the arithmetic more than any negotiation. A Global 6000 from Farnborough comes to £103,700, which shows how little the choice of London field matters next to the choice of cabin. Air Passenger Duty is charged per passenger on departure from a British airport, by distance band, and is shown on its own line in the quotation.
Private jet flights from Saint Lucia to the neighbouring islands
Saint Lucia is one island of about 617 square kilometres, so there is no domestic network to sell, only hops between neighbours. The island stands in the middle of the Windward chain with Martinique 54 nautical miles to the north, Barbados to the east and St Vincent and the Grenadines to the south, and the usual requests come from the people who have already arrived: a day in Martinique, a lunch in Barbados, a charter on to Mustique, a run down to Grenada, or the long leg north to Antigua. These are the sectors we price:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saint Lucia - Mustique 55 nm / 102 km |
Pilatus PC-12 NGX up to 9 |
about 40 min | from £3,100 |
| Saint Lucia - Martinique 54 nm / 100 km |

| Saint Lucia - St Vincent 38 nm / 70 km |
Citation CJ4 Gen2 up to 8 |

| Saint Lucia - Grenada 119 nm / 220 km |
Citation CJ4 Gen2 up to 8 |

| Saint Lucia - Antigua 218 nm / 404 km |
Citation XLS+ up to 9 |

Two things worth knowing about the island hops
– Mustique decides the aircraft for you. Its runway is under a thousand metres, no jet can use it, and a party that reaches Saint Lucia on a jet carries on to the island by turboprop. The jet from London stays at Hewanorra and waits, or flies home empty. For the Grenadines as a whole, the jet alternative is an airport at St Vincent, then a boat or a small aircraft;
– Every hop to another country is a fresh international arrival, with its own officers and forms at the far end. Martinique, for instance, is French territory, and its arrival rules follow French practice. Which operator may carry passengers between two airports outside its home state differs from place to place and is settled before the quote, so for regional hops we often propose an aircraft based in the Caribbean and confirm the permission in writing.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Saint Lucia:
Turboprops
Built for the neighbours rather than the ocean, which no turboprop crosses in a day. A Pilatus PC-12 is the normal choice for Mustique and the Grenadines, and a King Air 350 suits a larger group going to Martinique or St Vincent.
Light jets
They fit short regional hops with four to six passengers, and the smaller Castries airfield can take some of them in daylight. No light jet can attempt the crossing from Britain, so we do not offer one for it.
Super-midsize
A Challenger 350 is published at about 3,200 nautical miles, enough for the two legs through the Azores since the longer one is 2,462. The cabin gets snug over nine hours, so we offer it to a couple or a small family and confirm the range for the date.
Heavy jets
The class behind most sensible crossings: the Challenger 605 and the Legacy 650 make one stop and carry a family with staff in comfort. Hewanorra has the runway for them with room to spare.
Ultra-long range
The only class that crosses in a single sector, and the one we suggest for a short stay, a large party or a pet in the cabin. The Falcon 900LX is the cheapest of them from Britain, with the Global and Gulfstream types faster and bigger.

The distances in the Windward chain are short and the crossing is long, so a Caribbean stay often needs two aircraft. The first brings you from Britain and either goes home or waits at Hewanorra. The second, a turboprop or small jet based in the region, makes the hops. Both are named in the quotation.

Business aviation airports in Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia has two airports, and for a jet from Europe the choice is made by the runway. Hewanorra takes anything and is the one we plan around. The airfield in Castries is closer to the hotels of the north, but its limits are real and the authority enforces them. The table lists both, and the neighbours that matter to a party continuing by air:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Hewanorra International UVF / TLPL |
Vieux Fort, at the southern tip of the island, about 53 km from Castries by road | The island's jet gateway and an airport of entry. A single asphalt runway, 10/28, of 2,744 metres (9,003 feet) takes everything from a light jet to a wide-body airliner. Jet A1 is available, handling is not compulsory but is normally booked through the FBO, and the control tower is listed as working from about 06:00 to 23:00 local time |
| George F. L. Charles SLU / TLPC |
Castries, about 2 km north of the capital, 18 nautical miles from Hewanorra | A runway of 1,898 metres (6,227 feet) beside Vigie Beach, used mostly by turboprops and by light and midsize jets. The airport authority's rules for private aircraft set a ceiling of ICAO code 3C and a wingspan of 28.5 metres, daylight only and in dry weather with visibility of at least 6 km, and an indemnity form to the airport manager at least 24 hours ahead. Landings on runway 27 are visual. Overnighting aircraft are sent to Hewanorra |
| Aimé Césaire International FDF / TFFF |
Martinique, 54 nautical miles to the north | The international airport of the French island next door, used for a day trip or a continuation up the chain. It is a separate international arrival under French rules, with its own customs and immigration |
| Argyle International SVD / TVSA |
St Vincent, 38 nautical miles to the south | The nearest jet-capable airport in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and the usual first stop for a party that is going on to Bequia, Mustique or Canouan by air or by boat |
| Mustique MQS / TVSM |
Mustique, 55 nautical miles to the south | A runway of 992 metres for propeller aircraft of up to 18 seats. Jets cannot land, and customs and immigration are handled in the small terminal |
| Barbados Grantley Adams BGI / TBPB |
Barbados, 98 nautical miles to the east | The only jet airport on its island and the usual regional hub, open to business aviation round the clock. A useful alternative when the Caribbean legs of a longer trip are planned from the Barbados side |
Handling at Hewanorra is concentrated in a few names, and they are not equal:
Signature St. Lucia
The main FBO, opened as IAM Jet Centre by Signature and described by the trade press as the first FBO at the airport. It lists a private jet terminal under 24-hour surveillance, a conference room for briefings, crew amenities and jet fuelling. Charter brokers describe VIP lounges and on-site customs and immigration. Its published hours run from 07:30 to 19:30 local time, with a call-out available on request, and prior permission is required.
CAMS Aviation and Pike Aviation
Two smaller handlers on the same field. CAMS lists refuelling, marshalling, ramp help, baggage and crew coordination, with no lounge of its own. Pike Aviation lists crew and passenger assistance, customs support, fuel and ground transport. We use them when the FBO is full or the aircraft is a visitor in transit.
Slots and parking
No slot is needed, but the FBO hours are the real curfew. A late arrival after the long crossing is arranged as a call-out in advance, with the fee confirmed in the quotation. Overnight parking for private aircraft from Castries is also directed to Hewanorra, which can tighten the apron in the winter months.
Landing permission
A private, non-commercial flight and a charter are treated differently. A charter needs a permit from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority, listed at no less than 24 hours before landing, with the aircraft, crew, passenger count, insurance and handling agent. Passenger details go in as advance passenger information before arrival. We file early and keep the permit with the flight plan.
Why Castries is not simply the better address
On a map the airfield at Castries wins: two kilometres from the capital and half an hour from Rodney Bay and the north. In practice it is a daylight, dry-weather airfield with a runway of 1,898 metres, a wingspan limit of 28.5 metres and a handler whose published hours are weekday office hours. We use it for light and midsize jets that fit the rules and for the occasional day trip, and book the long-range cabin from Britain into Hewanorra. A helicopter or a car makes up the difference.
Arriving from Britain: passports, customs and what to carry
Saint Lucia is outside the Schengen area, the European Union and the British customs territory. A private flight from London lands as an international arrival at Hewanorra, where passengers and crew clear immigration and customs, and the same applies on departure.
British citizens need no visa for a visit; entry gives a stay of up to six weeks, the passport must be valid beyond the planned departure date, and the officer should stamp it, because the stamp sets the length of stayevery passenger, children included
travellers complete the official online immigration form no more than three days before arrival; without it, an electronic or paper form is completed on arrival, which slows the linebefore the flight
the rules on goods brought in or taken out are strict, and anything that may be prohibited, taxed or subject to duty must be declareddeclare when in doubt
a dual national returning to Britain carries a valid British passport or a certificate of entitlementcheck before packing
Health, advance information and the flight home
A yellow fever certificate is required only for travellers arriving from a country listed as a transmission risk, which a flight from Britain is not. Flights in and out of the island submit advance passenger information, and the crew and handler file it for the whole party, so we ask for passport details at the booking stage rather than at the airport.
The return is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, and most other nationalities do.

From the apron to the resort: Saint Lucia by district
The island is small on the map and slow on the ground: it is a mountainous place, the roads climb and twist, and a transfer is counted in hours more often than in kilometres. These are the usual pairings:
the airport is about 4 km north of the town of Vieux Fort, a short drive to the first beaches and the southern headlandHewanorra
about 60 minutes by road from Hewanorra and 75 from Castries, or a helicopter flight of about 6 minutes from Hewanorra to the helipad above Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain, in daylight onlyHewanorra, then car or helicopter
about 53 km north of Hewanorra, roughly an hour in a taxi and longer in traffic; the cruise terminals stand across the road from the Castries airfieldHewanorra or George Charles
25 to 35 minutes from the Castries airfield; from Hewanorra the same destination adds the full cross-island driveGeorge Charles, or Hewanorra and a car
about 20 minutes from the Castries airfield, a sheltered cove on the west coastGeorge Charles, or Hewanorra and a car
a further 10 to 15 minutes beyond Rodney Bay, at the northern end of the islandGeorge Charles, or Hewanorra and a car
Saint Lucia: what our clients go for
Most guests come for the south-west. The Pitons, two volcanic plugs that rise straight out of the sea near Soufrière, are the island's best-known landmark, and the resorts around them, Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain among them, run their own helicopter pad for guests. Next to them stands Sulphur Springs, described as the only drive-in volcano in the world. A client who wants that corner and nothing else flies into Hewanorra, takes the six-minute helicopter or the hour on the road, and does not see the north at all.
The other half of the island is Rodney Bay. Its marina is the finish of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, the yacht crossing that leaves Gran Canaria in November, and the harbour fills with some 150 boats each December. Pigeon Island lies just north. Owners and crews of the boats fly in to meet them, and families fly in for the Christmas finish, which turns the end of the year into the busiest part of the season.
Saint Lucia has 617 square kilometres and about 184,000 inhabitants, with Castries as the capital and Mount Gimie, at 950 metres, the highest point. English is the official language, though the French-based Kwéyòl is widely spoken, and the currency is the East Caribbean dollar. The island became independent from Britain on 22 February, and it keeps the Commonwealth link. It also claims the highest number of Nobel laureates per head of any sovereign state, the economist Sir Arthur Lewis and the poet Derek Walcott among them.
Hewanorra has a past that surprises first-time visitors. It began as a United States army airfield, later an air force base, and the name is an old word for the land of the iguana. Today it is a long-haul field with a runway big enough for the largest passenger aircraft, and British Airways flies to it from Gatwick.
The year in Saint Lucia: dry months, wet months and the winter peak
Saint Lucia has a tropical climate cooled by the north-east trade winds, and the year splits in two:
the dry season, 1 December to 31 May by the usual definition; visitor numbers peak from January to Aprilpeak
the wet season, which overlaps with the Atlantic hurricane season; the island has been hit by storms in the past, so a summer booking keeps the dates flexiblewet, quieter
the Jazz & Arts Festival draws a second peak at the end of the dry season, with hotels and cars short for the festival daysfestival
the ARC boats reach Rodney Bay in December, at the same time as the Christmas travellers, so the FBO, the cars and the helicopter seats are confirmed earlybook early
The holiday fortnight costs more than an ordinary week
Christmas, New Year and the weeks that follow fill the resorts and the Hewanorra apron at the same time as every long-range jet in Europe is wanted elsewhere. The prices on this page describe an ordinary week, with a Falcon 900LX from Biggin Hill at £95,700 one way. A date inside the holiday fortnight is best booked the moment the plans are known, and the helicopter and the FBO call-out should be asked for together with the aircraft.
The Saint Lucia calendar: independence, jazz, carnival and the flower festivals
The dated events are cultural and seasonal, and the larger ones fill the hotels and the apron in the same week:
What the festivals do to a booking
The jazz festival and the Christmas weeks are the dates when every car, room and helicopter seat is committed together. We book the FBO and the call-out with the flight, name the aircraft that will take you home, and warn clients with loose plans that a festival week is the worst time to ask for a jet at short notice. Dates move a little from one year to the next, so we check them before the quotation.

Flying to Saint Lucia with a dog or a cat
Saint Lucia admits dogs and cats from Britain without quarantine when every condition is met, and a private flight suits its rules well, because the animal has to travel directly to the island and may not mix with other animals on the way. The weak point is time, since the permit comes first and the veterinary steps are measured backwards from the flight.
The one fact to read before you book
Every dog and cat needs an import permit from the Veterinary and Livestock Services Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, issued before the animal leaves. The division asks for proof that the conditions are met before it issues the permit, so the application is made early. Britain is in the rabies-free Category 1 of the Saint Lucia conditions, and an animal that has lived in Britain for at least three months does not need the rabies blood test that Category 2 countries must pass.
The division also wants notice of the port of entry, the date, the time and the flight number at least three days before arrival. With a private jet the flight number is the registration and the schedule is ours to give, so we supply the details as soon as the aircraft is confirmed. An animal that arrives without a valid permit, or that fails the conditions, is refused entry.
- A microchip to ISO standard 11784, readable by a standard reader, or a reader supplied by the owner;
- A rabies vaccine, inactivated and adjuvanted and approved by the British authorities, given at least one month before the flight;
- Treatment against worms, tapeworm included, and against ticks and other external parasites, inside the window written on the permit. The Saint Lucia conditions allow up to 14 days before export, while older British guidance for exporters speaks of 24 to 48 hours before entry, so the vet follows the permit;
- For a dog, vaccination at least 14 days before the flight against distemper, leptospirosis, hepatitis, parainfluenza and parvovirus. For a cat, vaccination at least two weeks before against feline leukaemia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia;
- For a dog, the tests the permit names where they apply, such as heartworm, Lyme disease or leishmaniasis, done close to the flight;
- A health certificate from the exporting country's veterinary authority, stating that the animal is healthy and free from external parasites.
On the way home the rule is British. Saint Lucia is a listed country, so the animal returns with a Great Britain pet health certificate, and a dog must be treated against tapeworm by a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before landing in Britain. That treatment is easy to forget on an island holiday, so we put it in the plan on the first day. An animal without the right paperwork can be held in quarantine for up to four months.
The division also lists an office at Vieux Fort, close to Hewanorra, which makes the south the natural arrival point for a pet. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight, and the longer rules for other species, along with the countries where the timeline runs to months, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, sold at a fraction of the usual price. Saint Lucia generates them for a simple reason: a charter to the island is one-way by nature, and an aircraft that brings guests from Britain has an ocean to recross before it earns anything again.
Where Saint Lucia empty legs come from
– The first weeks of the dry season, when aircraft arrive full for the winter and head home empty, or are sent out empty to bring guests back;
– The days after the jazz festival and the end of the high season in May, when aircraft based in the region are repositioned to Florida or across the Atlantic and the legs appear at short notice;
– The Christmas and rally-finish weeks, when a heavy jet delivers a party, waits elsewhere in the Caribbean and flies home empty a day or two later.
A client with a few spare days has a far better chance of a match, though the operator owns the date and a leg can vanish when the original booking changes. Legs from the island often point to Florida or another Caribbean base as well as to Britain, so a flexible destination helps. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Saint Lucia empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saint Lucia - UK (London Biggin Hill) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £32,850 |
| UK (London Luton) - Saint Lucia | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £32,900 |
| Saint Lucia - UK (Edinburgh) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £33,450 |
| UK (Belfast) - Saint Lucia | Falcon 900LX | 12 seats | £38,700 |
| Saint Lucia - UK (Bristol) | Falcon 900LX | 12 seats | £39,150 |
| UK (Manchester) - Saint Lucia | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £43,350 |
| Saint Lucia - UK (London Farnborough) | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £43,550 |
| UK (London Gatwick) - Saint Lucia | Gulfstream G550 | 16 seats | £45,850 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Falcon 900LX leg of £38,700 with eight aboard works out at about £4,840 a head, and the whole leg costs about two-fifths of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector;
– Legs to and from Saint Lucia are less frequent than on a busy European corridor and bunch around the season dates, so an open date helps more than anything.

Helicopter charter
The roads of Saint Lucia are the reason the helicopter earns its place. Saint Lucia Helicopters is based at Hewanorra, where it keeps a helipad and a desk in the terminal, and lists airport transfers, island tours, photography flights and hourly charters. It does not fly after sunset, so an evening arrival after the Atlantic crossing usually continues by road. The resorts around the Pitons run a helipad of their own above Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain, open to resident guests and to flights inside Saint Lucia in daylight only:
the length of the island, from the south to the capital, in a fraction of the road timeabout 15 min
the resort's own figure for the flight to the Pitons, against about an hour by roadabout 6 min
the resort's figure from the northern airfield, against about 75 minutes by roadabout 8 min
Resort transfers are sold per seat or per helicopter, with a minimum number of passengers for a shared flight, and hand luggage travels with the guest while the main bags can follow separately. For the first row, the straight-line estimate at about 115 knots, the operator confirms the route and the time. A private party that wants the helicopter reserved for itself should ask for it with the aircraft, since the seats in the winter go early.
Two points on rotary legs
Because flights stop at dusk, the choice of arrival time decides whether the helicopter is available at all: a jet that lands before the late afternoon can continue by air, and one that lands after dark drives. A landing at a villa, a yacht or a hotel without its own pad needs a site agreed in advance.

Saint Lucia charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
HONEYMOON · THE PITONS
A week at the foot of the volcanoes
Biggin Hill - Saint Lucia via the Azores, Challenger 605, about 9 h 30 min plus the stop · 2 pax
The couple wanted to be at the resort by dinner, so we timed the landing at Hewanorra for the early afternoon and booked the helicopter to the pad above the resort. The jet went home empty, and the return a week later was booked as a separate one-way sector.
ATLANTIC RALLY · A FAMILY FINISH
Meeting the boat at Rodney Bay
Farnborough - Saint Lucia, Global 6000, about 8 h 25 min · 4 pax
A father was sailing in the rally and his family flew out for the finish. The date of the arrival was a forecast rather than a fact, so we agreed a window with the FBO and the operator in advance, and the crew waited at Hewanorra for the boat to be sighted.
MUSTIQUE · A JET CANNOT LAND
Lunch on a private island
Saint Lucia - Mustique, Pilatus PC-12 NGX, about 40 min · 4 pax
Four guests staying near Soufrière drove to Hewanorra and boarded a turboprop for the short run south. A jet was never an option on a 992-metre runway, and the Saint Lucian officers cleared the departure before the plane left.
JAZZ FESTIVAL · A DAY NEXT DOOR
Two couples and a French lunch
Saint Lucia - Martinique, Citation CJ3+, about 40 min · 4 pax
The party left the festival crowds for a day and came back in the evening. Martinique is a separate arrival with French formalities, so the passport details went to the handler the day before, and the aircraft was a light jet and not the Atlantic crosser.
WITH THE DOG · THE PERMIT FIRST
A couple, a labrador and a fortnight in the sun
Biggin Hill - Saint Lucia, Falcon 900LX non-stop, about 9 h 20 min · 2 pax + dog
The import permit was applied for six weeks ahead, the vet treated the dog inside the window written on it, and the non-stop aircraft meant the animal went straight from the cabin to the arrival check. The tapeworm treatment for the way home was given at a local vet the day before departure.
EMPTY LEG · THE END OF THE SEASON
A flexible return to Luton
Saint Lucia - London Luton, Challenger 605 empty leg, about 9 h 30 min plus the stop · 3 pax
The client gave us a window of four days instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £32,900, well under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a departure on a Thursday.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Saint Lucia
1How long does it take to fly to Saint Lucia by private jet?
About 9 hours 20 minutes non-stop from a London airfield in a Falcon 900LX, and about 9 hours 30 minutes in a Challenger 605 plus about an hour on the ground in the Azores. The way home is shorter with the jet stream behind the aircraft. Saint Lucia is four hours behind Britain in winter and five in summer.
2How much does a private jet to Saint Lucia cost?
From about £78,250 one way from Biggin Hill in a Challenger 605 with a stop in the Azores. A Falcon 900LX non-stop from Biggin Hill is about £95,700, and a Gulfstream G650ER about £123,350. Air Passenger Duty is charged per passenger on a departure from a British airport and is shown as a separate line in the quotation.
3Which airport do private jets use in Saint Lucia, and is there an FBO?
Hewanorra International (UVF, TLPL) at Vieux Fort, with a runway of 2,744 metres, is the airport for jets from Europe and an airport of entry. Signature St. Lucia is the main FBO, with published hours of 07:30 to 19:30 local time and a call-out on request. The smaller George F. L. Charles airfield at Castries is limited to daylight, dry weather and aircraft up to a wingspan of 28.5 metres.
4What are the passport and customs rules for a private flight from Britain to Saint Lucia?
British citizens need no visa for a visit and may stay up to six weeks. The passport must be valid beyond the planned departure date, and the official online immigration form is completed no more than three days before arrival. Customs rules on goods are strict, and anything that may be prohibited, taxed or subject to duty must be declared.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Saint Lucia?
Yes, with an import permit from the Veterinary and Livestock Services Division, a microchip, a rabies vaccine given at least a month before the flight, the parasite treatments the permit requires and a health certificate. The division wants three days of notice of the flight. On the way home a dog needs a tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain.
6When is the best time to fly to Saint Lucia, and how early should I book?
The dry season runs from December to May, with visitor numbers highest from January to April. June to November is wetter and overlaps with the Atlantic hurricane season. Book as early as the dates are known for Christmas, the jazz festival at the end of April and the start of May, and the finish of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers in December.
