Private jet charter to Costa Dorada

London to the Costa Dorada takes a little over two hours, and hiring the cabin outright costs from 10,000 GBP one way. Arrivals go to Reus, eight kilometres from Tarragona and twenty minutes from Salou, which puts the main resorts inside half an hour of the apron. What sets this airport apart from the rest of the Catalan coast is competition on the ground: four separate handling companies work the ramp here, which at a field of this size is unusual and gives you a lever that Barcelona does not. We ask more than one of them before quoting, and on a summer week the difference between their numbers is not small. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Aircraft for this run are usually found around Barcelona, Palma, Nice and the London fields, and the sector is long enough that cabin choice matters more here than on a short European hop. Where the dates fall in August we settle the parking before the price, because that is the month when the whole Catalan coast competes for the same apron space.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Costa Dorada depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Farnborough, a Cessna Citation XLS+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Costa Dorada?

A little over two hours from the London fields, and around two and three quarters from Scotland. These are block figures with taxi and approach counted in rather than airborne minutes. Every route below arrives at Reus, LERS, which is the airport the coast actually uses.

Route Aircraft Flying time Routing
London Farnborough (EGLF) - Costa Dorada (LERS)
613 nm / 1,136 km
Cessna Citation XLS+ about 2 h 05 min Nonstop
London Luton (EGGW) - Costa Dorada (LERS)
647 nm / 1,199 km
Cessna Citation XLS+ about 2 h 10 min Nonstop
Birmingham (EGBB) - Costa Dorada (LERS)
689 nm / 1,276 km
Bombardier Challenger 350 about 2 h 15 min Nonstop
Manchester (EGCC) - Costa Dorada (LERS)
746 nm / 1,381 km
Bombardier Challenger 350 about 2 h 20 min Nonstop
Edinburgh (EGPH) - Costa Dorada (LERS)
906 nm / 1,679 km
Embraer Legacy 600 about 2 h 45 min Nonstop

The approach is over the sea onto flat coastal ground at seven hundred feet or so, with nothing to complicate it and weather that behaves for most of the year. The one thing worth knowing is that the field is home to one of the oldest flying clubs in Spain and a pilot training school, so the circuit carries a steady stream of light aircraft on a fine morning. It affects sequencing rather than safety, and the handler builds it into the timings.

Prices for the private jet flights to Costa Dorada

Below are the approximate prices for recent flights into Reus from across the UK, sorted from the lowest. Each figure covers the whole aircraft one way rather than a seat. Two things that move the price on this route

The first is the handling, and it is the reason to ask us rather than accept the first figure you are given. Four companies compete for business aviation on this ramp, which is rare outside the big hubs, and their quotations for the identical aircraft on the identical day can differ by a margin that is worth the phone call. Most brokers use whichever agent their operator has always used. We compare, and we show you what each of them charges.

The second is August. The Costa Dorada empties northern Europe onto a hundred kilometres of coast in the space of a fortnight, and the apron fills with it. Parking rather than aircraft is the constraint in those weeks, and a booking made in the spring costs materially less than the same trip arranged in July. Outside the season the field is quiet and a repositioning flight down from the north appears on our empty legs list at a fraction of the charter rate.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

Private jet flights to the Costa Dorada from Europe

Reus also takes a steady flow of arrivals from within Europe, and the short Iberian and Balearic sectors are the ones we price most often.

Route Aircraft Flight time Price
Palma - Costa Dorada (REU)

Cessna Citation M2, up to 6 passengers about 0 h 50 min from 4,700 GBP

Madrid - Costa Dorada (REU)

Nice - Costa Dorada (REU)
308 nm / 570 km
Embraer Phenom 300E, up to 8 passengers about 1 h 20 min from 7,900 GBP
Geneva - Costa Dorada (REU)

Embraer Phenom 300E, up to 8 passengers about 1 h 30 min from 8,600 GBP

377 nm / 698 km
Embraer Phenom 300E, up to 8 passengers about 1 h 30 min from 8,700 GBP

Paris Le Bourget - Costa Dorada (REU)
473 nm / 875 km
Cessna Citation XLS+, up to 9 passengers about 1 h 45 min from 10,200 GBP
Rome Ciampino - Costa Dorada (REU)
515 nm / 954 km
Bombardier Challenger 350, up to 9 passengers about 1 h 50 min from 13,900 GBP
Frankfurt - Costa Dorada (REU)
617 nm / 1,142 km
Bombardier Challenger 350, up to 9 passengers about 2 h 05 min from 15,400 GBP

Two things worth knowing about these sectors

– Barcelona does not appear above and neither does Girona. El Prat is forty-two nautical miles away and a little over an hour by road, so a charter between the two earns nothing at all and we quote a car instead;

– Reus is the release valve when El Prat saturates, which through the summer it does. If your itinerary is genuinely for Barcelona rather than the coast, we will say so and price both, because the right answer depends on where you are sleeping rather than on which name you recognise.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

Hourly rates show what the aircraft itself contributes, and on a sector past six hundred miles they carry most of the total rather than a minor part of it. The list runs from the least expensive upwards, and the runway at Reus sets no ceiling on any of it.

Light jet (Citation M2, Citation CJ2+)2,300 - 2,900 GBP/h
Midsize (Phenom 300E, Citation XLS+)3,200 - 3,900 GBP/h
Super-midsize (Challenger 350, Praetor 600)4,800 - 5,700 GBP/h
Heavy (Legacy 600, Falcon 900LX)5,500 - 6,900 GBP/h
Ultra-long range (Global 6000, Gulfstream G650)from 8,500 GBP/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6500 business jets of different configurations and production years, and the list is constantly updated. The four groups below are the ones that matter on this route, where distance rather than the airport decides what you fly.

Light jets

The Mediterranean shuttle rather than the British one. From Palma, Ibiza or Madrid a light cabin is ideal; from Britain it reaches the coast but leaves little margin once six people and a fortnight of luggage are aboard.

Cessna Citation M2 · 6 seatsfrom 2,300 GBP/h
Cessna Citation CJ2+ · 6 seatsfrom 2,600 GBP/h

Midsize

Where the British table starts, and the sensible minimum from the south of England. Headroom to stand, a proper lavatory on a leg of this length, and enough hold for the quantity of luggage a family somehow generates for two weeks by the sea.

Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom 3,200 GBP/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom 3,400 GBP/h

Super-midsize

The band that takes over from the Midlands northwards, where the sector runs past seven hundred miles. Nine seats, the range in hand, and an hour or so less on the clock than a smaller cabin would need.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom 4,800 GBP/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom 5,300 GBP/h

online private jet directory

Heavy and beyond

Where the Scottish and Irish departures land, and the answer for a party of thirteen travelling together. The runway takes all of it without qualification, so the choice is yours rather than the airport's, and one arrival is simpler on a summer apron than two.

Embraer Legacy 600 · 13 seatsfrom 5,500 GBP/h
Dassault Falcon 900LX · 12 seatsfrom 6,400 GBP/h
Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom 8,500 GBP/h

What is listed here is a fraction of what we can source. On a sector of this length the deciding factors are the size of the party and how far north you start, since the runway itself rules nothing out.

Business aviation airports in Costa Dorada

The Costa Dorada is a hundred kilometres of coast rather than a town, and it is served by a single airport sitting almost exactly in the middle of it. The panel covers what a visitor needs; the note underneath explains the one thing that genuinely distinguishes this field from the alternatives up the coast.

AirportReus (REU / LERS), between Reus and Tarragona
PositionEight kilometres from Tarragona and ten east of Reus itself
Distance to the resortsSalou and Cambrils twenty minutes, Tarragona fifteen

Four handlers on one ramp, and why that is worth knowing

Regional airports usually give you one handling company and no conversation. Reus has four working the business aviation apron, and they quote independently for the same aircraft on the same day. The spread between them is real money on a summer arrival, and because most brokers simply route the request through whichever agent their operator has always used, it is money that quietly stays on the table.

Our practice here is to ask more than one and show you the comparison rather than a single number with the handling folded invisibly inside it. It costs us a little time and it costs you nothing. The same competition works in your favour on turnaround speed in August, when the coast fills and an agent with a free stand is worth more than an agent with a cheaper invoice.

business aviation

The other fields serving this coast, and when each is the better arrival:

Field When it is the better arrival
Barcelona El Prat
BCN / LEBL, 42 nm
The obvious answer when the trip is genuinely for Barcelona, and the deepest choice of aircraft in Catalonia at short notice. A little over an hour by road to the Costa Dorada, and heavily saturated through the summer, which is when Reus earns its keep
Girona Costa Brava
GRO / LEGE, 85 nm
North of Barcelona and the wrong side of it for this coast. It serves the Costa Brava, Begur and Cadaques, and reaching Salou from there means crossing the city
Sabadell
QSA / LELL, 48 nm
A general aviation field inland from Barcelona with a short runway suited to light aircraft and turboprops. Occasionally useful for a small party, rarely for a family with luggage
Lleida Alguaire
ILD / LEDA, 45 nm
Inland towards Aragon, with a long runway and very little traffic. It answers a parking problem or a diversion rather than a travel one, and the drive to the coast is over an hour and a half

Three practical points

– Spain is inside Schengen and Britain is not, so an arrival from the UK crosses an external frontier and is recorded electronically under the EU entry and exit system. The formality happens at the aircraft and your handler lodges it with the flight plan;

– The flying club and the training school on the field keep the circuit busy on a clear morning. It costs minutes in the sequence rather than anything more, and it is the reason we build a little slack into a tight connection;

– In August the constraint is the stand rather than the aeroplane. Ask us early, and where the dates cannot move we will look at what each of the four handlers can hold rather than accepting the first refusal.

Arrivals are received away from the main concourse, and half an hour ahead of a departure is more than enough. Against your dates our consultants fix the handler, the stand and, where the flight comes from abroad, the customs attendance.

From the apron to the resorts

The airport sits on the coastal plain with the AP-7 and the N-340 both a few minutes away, which makes transfers here quick and predictable. The figures below are clear-road times.

Tarragona
east along the coast, the Roman capital of the province
about 15 minutes
PortAventura World
between the airport and the sea, for the parks
about 15 minutes
Salou
the largest of the resorts, on its own headland
about 20 minutes
Cambrils
further south west, the fishing port and the restaurants
about 20 minutes
Sitges
north east along the coast towards Barcelona
about 55 minutes
The Priorat vineyards
inland and up into the hills behind Falset
about 1 h 00 min
Barcelona city centre
north east on the AP-7
about 1 h 10 min
The Ebro delta
south along the coast, for the birds and the rice
about 1 h 10 min

Which airport actually shortens your day

For every resort on this coast, from Sitges down to the Ebro delta, Reus is the arrival and the margin over Barcelona runs to the best part of an hour on each leg. The line falls where the itinerary changes character rather than where the map does: if you are staying in Barcelona and visiting the coast, El Prat is right, and if you are staying on the coast and visiting Barcelona, Reus is. Tell us where you are sleeping rather than what you intend to see, and the answer settles itself.

Helicopter transfers along the coast

Rotary work along this coast is straightforward, with flat ground, reliable weather and short distances. The times below are flying minutes and should be read against road figures that are already good.

Tarragonaabout 5 minutes
PortAventura Worldabout 5 minutes
Salou and Cambrilsabout 8 minutes
The Prioratabout 15 minutes
The Ebro deltaabout 20 minutes
Sitgesabout 20 minutes
Barcelonaabout 25 minutes
Andorraabout 45 minutes

When the rotary leg earns its cost

Not for the resorts, where twenty minutes in a car cannot be improved on and nobody should pretend otherwise. It earns its keep going inland and going north. The Priorat is an hour of climbing hairpins and a quarter of that in the air, and Andorra, which a good many clients pair with this coast in winter, is four hours by road and forty-five minutes over the top.

Two constraints apply. Mountain weather inland closes rotary options well before it closes the roads, so a car stays on the booking as insurance. And landing anywhere other than a licensed site is agreed with the owner beforehand, which in the wine country takes days rather than hours.

Flying to Costa Dorada with a dog or a cat

Spain asks little of a visiting dog and Britain asks rather more of one coming back, which is the pattern across the continent. The wrinkle particular to this coast is the length of the stay: people come to the Costa Dorada for a fortnight or take a house for the season, and the paperwork is written for single journeys.

One certificate, one journey out

The document a British resident travels on now is signed by an official veterinarian and covers a single outward trip, dated within the ten days before departure. It cannot be obtained in advance and put in a drawer. A family that flies out at Easter and again in August therefore arranges two of them, each inside its own ten-day window. Accredited practices are at their busiest in exactly those weeks, so the veterinary appointment goes in the diary alongside the villa rather than after the aircraft.

What Spain asks for on the way in:

  • Identification first: a chip to the international standard, in place before the rabies injection rather than after it. The wrong order and the injection does not count;
  • Rabies protection with twenty-one clear days behind it, from twelve weeks of age upwards. A booster given while the last course still stands works immediately;
  • The certificate itself, signed within ten days of the outward flight and issued in English alongside Spanish;
  • Nothing at the Spanish border. Spain asks for no worming or tick treatment on the way in, which catches out owners whose previous trip was to Ireland or Finland;
  • Coming home, a praziquantel dose from a Spanish vet between one and five days before you land in Britain, with the hour written on the certificate. Dogs only.

Cats and ferrets sit outside the worming requirement in both directions and need only the chip, the injection and the certificate. Five animals per party is the ceiling unless the trip is to a recognised show, which on a beach holiday concerns nobody.

Veterinary surgery on the airfieldNone
Practices near the resortsA choice in Reus, Tarragona and Cambrils, all within the half hour
What the homeward dose needsA Spanish vet, timed against your landing in Britain
What we arrangeThe appointment locally, confirmed to you in writing before you fly
Restrictions on the animalNone whatever, and it stays in the cabin with you throughout

Two hours in a cabin with no hold, no crate and nobody taking the animal away at either end is a different proposition from the scheduled alternative, and on a long stay it matters more rather than less. The wider rules sit on our travel with pets page. On this coast the item that governs your dates is the certificate, and for anyone travelling out twice a year it governs them twice.

The Costa Dorada season

The Costa Dorada has a sharper season than most of the Spanish coast, because it is a family destination rather than a year-round one, and the airport follows it closely.

When the coast is busy, and what it means for a booking

– July and August, when northern Europe arrives at once and the theme parks run at capacity. Aircraft, stands, cars and villas are committed months ahead, and this is the period in which a late enquiry is most likely to end at Barcelona instead;

– Easter and the May half term, compressing the identical crush into a handful of days and surprising anyone who had only guarded against August;

– The Tarragona festivals in late August and the human tower competition in the autumn, both of which fill the city without straining the airport in the same way;

– November to March, when the coast empties, the Priorat comes into its own and prices fall away. The weather is mild rather than warm, and it is the season for the wine country rather than the beach.

Types of flights

Our company provides all types of business flights. Due to a wide variety of jets, we can arrange:

  1. private flights;
  2. corporate flights;
  3. business class flights;
  4. concert tours;
  5. medical flights (with doctors and special equipment on board);
  6. tourist flights for large and small groups;
  7. sports charters for teams and coaching staff;
  8. combined flights (partly by business jet, and partly by helicopter);
  9. exclusive flights on luxury jets for businessmen, celebrities, and politicians;
  10. cargo flights, etc.

A flexible approach and a wide experience allow us to solve problems of any complexity. In 90% of cases, we manage to arrange urgent flights (on the day of application). That holds comfortably on this route for most of the year, because the sectors are short and aircraft are usually within reach. The exceptions are the August changeover Saturdays and any arrival outside the daytime window, both of which are arranged rather than improvised.

Empty Legs

Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way. The Mediterranean coast generates a great many of them through the season, because an aircraft that has delivered one family on a Saturday morning is wanted back north long before that family flies home. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.

It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.

Jet Sharing

Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.

We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1200 to 6000 pounds (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.

Main advantages of this service:

  • All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
  • You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
  • No baggage restrictions;
  • Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
  • Pets can be carried directly in the aircraft cabin.

Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter

A helicopter fleet is available to Private Jets UK clients across Catalonia. Boarding usually happens on the ramp a few paces from the aeroplane, and where the machine you want sits at another field we position it in beforehand.

The types that suit this region, and the job each one does:

  • Airbus H125, four passengers with luggage, the least costly way off the ramp and enough for a hop along the coast to a hotel or a villa;
  • Airbus H130, up to six seats, the same single engine underneath but a markedly quieter cabin, which is what most families end up on;
  • Airbus H135, six seats, a twin with the margin for an evening movement or a leg inland over the hills;
  • Agusta AW109, six seats, faster again and the choice for a day taking in two or three the estuaries in a single day.

Availability turns week by week, and the August weekends commit furthest ahead. Please contact our aviation consultants for the current position on a particular model and date.

Costa Dorada charters we have flown: six trips from the booking notes

Taken from our own booking records. Surnames appear as initials and incidental details have been altered, so nobody is identifiable. Each was chosen because this coast, rather than chartering in general, decided how it went.

HANDLING · FOUR QUOTES

Mr S. D.: the same aeroplane at four different prices

London Luton to Costa Dorada, Citation XLS+, 2 h 10 min · 8 passengers

A first booking with us after several years elsewhere, and he asked why our figure differed from the one he was used to. We had put the handling out to all four agents on the ramp rather than accepting the operator's usual choice. The spread across the four was several hundred pounds on a single turnaround. Nothing clever about it; it simply requires making four telephone calls instead of none.

AUGUST · NO STAND

A Midlands family: the fortnight that nearly went to Barcelona

Birmingham to Costa Dorada, Challenger 350, 2 h 15 min · 9 passengers

They came to us in June for the first week of August, by which time the apron was effectively full. Rather than move them up the coast we worked through the handlers one at a time until one of them could hold a stand. It took two days and it saved an hour of motorway at each end of the holiday. Asking in March would have taken ten minutes.

PARKS · FIFTEEN MINUTES

The R. family: children, luggage and no patience

London Farnborough to Costa Dorada, Citation XLS+, 2 h 05 min · 7 passengers

The whole trip was built around PortAventura, which sits between the airport and the sea. A quarter of an hour from the aircraft steps to the hotel is what the private arrangement actually bought them, rather than the flying, and with two young children aboard that quarter of an hour was the argument that mattered.

WINE · INLAND LEG

A collector and three guests: the Priorat by helicopter

London Biggin Hill to Costa Dorada, Phenom 300E, 2 h 05 min · 4 passengers

Two days of cellar visits in the Priorat, which is an hour of climbing hairpins from the coast and fifteen minutes over the top. The landing sites had to be agreed with each estate in advance, which took the better part of a fortnight and is the reason we ask about inland plans early rather than late.

DOG · SECOND TRIP

Mrs J. A.: a certificate that had already been used

Bristol to Costa Dorada, Phenom 300E, 2 h 10 min · 5 passengers and a whippet

She keeps a house near Cambrils and flies out twice a year, and had assumed the veterinary paperwork issued in the spring would serve again in September. It covers one outward journey and is dated within ten days of it. We now put the appointment in the diary when the booking is made, which costs nothing and removes the problem entirely.

BARCELONA · WRONG END

A corporate group: staying in the city, quoted for the coast

Manchester to Barcelona, Challenger 350 · 9 passengers

The enquiry named the Costa Dorada because the conference was at a resort hotel, but the party were sleeping in Barcelona and travelling down each morning. El Prat was the right arrival for that pattern and Reus was not. We changed it before quoting. The question we ask first is where you are sleeping, and it is not idle curiosity.

The Costa Dorada: destination overview

The Costa Dorada is the stretch of Catalan coast running south from Sitges to the Ebro delta, named for sand that really is a shade paler than its neighbours. It is the family half of Catalonia: shallow water, long beaches, the largest theme resort in southern Europe, and behind it a Roman capital and one of the most serious wine regions in Spain. Barcelona is a little over an hour up the motorway and feels further in character.

Where to stay

Salou is the largest resort and the busiest, built around a headland with the beaches either side of it and PortAventura behind. Cambrils, twenty minutes south, is the quieter and better-eating alternative, still a working fishing port with a row of restaurants that Catalans drive out for. Tarragona suits anyone who would rather have a city with Roman ruins and a cathedral than a beach club. For seclusion the answer is inland, in the stone villages of the Priorat, or south towards the delta where almost nobody goes.

What to do

PortAventura World is the reason a great many families come, and it is genuinely large enough to fill three days. Tarragona is the counterweight: the Roman remains there are a UNESCO site, and the amphitheatre above the sea is among the most striking in the Mediterranean. The Priorat and Montsant produce wines that changed Spain's reputation abroad, and the cellars take visitors by appointment. In late summer the human tower competitions fill the squares, which is a Catalan spectacle rather than a tourist one and worth planning a trip around.

When it is busy

July and August fill the coast completely and the parks with it. Easter and the late May half term do the same in miniature. September is the connoisseur's month, with warm water and empty beaches, and the winter belongs to the wine country rather than the shore.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Costa Dorada

1How long is a private jet flight from London to the Costa Dorada?

About 2 hours 5 from Farnborough or Biggin Hill and 2 hours 10 from Luton, over a distance of 613 to 647 nautical miles to Reus. Allow around 2 hours 15 from Birmingham, 2 hours 20 from Manchester, and 2 hours 45 from Edinburgh or Glasgow. These are block times with taxi and approach included.

2How much does a private jet to the Costa Dorada cost?

From about 9,800 GBP one way out of Southampton, 10,000 GBP from Biggin Hill and 10,300 GBP from Bristol on an eight-seat Phenom. London Farnborough runs around 10,900 GBP and Luton 11,400 GBP on a nine-seat Citation XLS+, Birmingham about 16,200 GBP and Manchester 17,100 GBP on a super-midsize, and Edinburgh 23,600 GBP on a thirteen-seat Legacy 600. Each figure buys the whole aircraft one way.

3Which airport serves the Costa Dorada?

Reus, REU or LERS, which sits between Reus and Tarragona almost exactly in the middle of the coast. Tarragona is fifteen minutes away, Salou and Cambrils twenty, and PortAventura fifteen. The runway takes every category of private aircraft, and unusually for a regional field there are four competing ground handling companies rather than one.

4Should I fly to Reus or Barcelona?

It depends on where you are sleeping rather than what you plan to see. If the base is anywhere on the coast from Sitges to the delta, Reus wins by close to an hour on each road leg. If the base is Barcelona itself and the coast is a day trip, El Prat is right. Bear in mind that El Prat saturates through the summer, which is precisely when Reus is most useful as an alternative.

5Do British passport holders need a visa for Spain?

No. A British passport allows visa-free travel for short stays of up to ninety days in any one hundred and eighty. Spain is inside Schengen and the United Kingdom is not, so the flight crosses an external frontier and the arrival is recorded electronically under the EU entry and exit system. On a private arrival the formality is completed at the aircraft, with the details lodged in advance by your handling agent.
