Private jet charter to Derry
London to Derry takes eighty minutes gate to gate, and the whole aircraft begins at 7,200 GBP one way. Eglinton serves both halves of the picture: a domestic hop from Britain that asks for no passport control, no customs declaration and no animal health certificate, and an international departure onward to wherever a business jet will reach. That difference shows itself on the apron rather than in flight, because aircraft arriving from or leaving for destinations outside Northern Ireland are routed through the main terminal for clearance, while private movements of either kind need the airport's prior permission. The runway lies eleven kilometres north-east of the city on the shore of Lough Foyle, about ten minutes by car, and the operating day runs from half past six in the morning until nine thirty at night. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Aircraft for the inbound leg tend to sit at Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow or the London fields, which keeps positioning short and makes one-way pricing unusually competitive. Outbound is a different exercise: from a runway of this length a long-range cabin will take you to the Gulf or the eastern seaboard direct, and we settle the performance figures for that before quoting rather than after.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Derry depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Luton, a Cessna Citation CJ2+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Derry?
Well under an hour and a half from London, and under an hour from Scotland. These are block figures with taxi and approach counted in rather than airborne minutes. The last route runs the other way, because Eglinton works as a departure point as readily as an arrival.
| Route | Aircraft | Flying time | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Belfast International (EGAA) - Derry (EGAE) 40 nm / 74 km |
Cessna Citation M2 | about 0 h 40 min | Nonstop |
| Glasgow (EGPF) - Derry (EGAE) 105 nm / 195 km |
Cessna Citation CJ2+ | about 0 h 50 min | Nonstop |
| Manchester (EGCC) - Derry (EGAE) 199 nm / 369 km |
Cessna Citation CJ2+ | about 1 h 05 min | Nonstop |
| London Luton (EGGW) - Derry (EGAE) 308 nm / 571 km |
Cessna Citation CJ2+ | about 1 h 20 min | Nonstop |
| Derry (EGAE) - Malaga (LEMG) 1,108 nm / 2,052 km |
Embraer Legacy 600 | about 3 h 10 min | Nonstop |
The approach is genuinely undramatic. Eglinton sits at seven metres above the sea on the flat southern shore of the lough, with an instrument landing system on the runway and no high ground on the way in. The one published limitation worth knowing is that take-off is not permitted when runway visual range drops below four hundred metres, which on a still winter morning occasionally shifts a departure by an hour.

Prices for the private jet flights to Derry
Below are the approximate prices for recent flights from across the UK, sorted from the lowest. Each figure buys the whole aircraft one way rather than a seat, and because the sectors are short the totals come out well below what a private flight usually costs.

| London Biggin Hill - Derry 341 nm / 632 km |
Cessna Citation XLS+ | 9 | from 9,600 GBP |
Two things that move the price on this route
The first is how short the sectors are. Belfast to Eglinton takes forty minutes and Glasgow fifty, so crew duty, landing and handling account for more of the total than the flying does. That works in your favour on a bigger cabin, since the step up costs proportionally little, and it is why the figures above sit well below what a private flight is usually assumed to cost.
The second only applies to the outbound side. The runway measures 1,967 metres, which light and midsize aircraft use without a second thought, and the airport states that it handles business jets up to and including converted airliners. On a long international departure a heavy cabin is checked for the particular day rather than assumed, since fuel load, passenger weight and wind all enter the calculation. We run that check before quoting, and a repositioning flight across the Irish Sea appears on our empty legs list at a fraction of the charter rate.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Private jet flights to Derry from Europe
Derry also works as a European departure point, and the pattern is distinctive: a short business hop to Dublin at one end, and the Iberian leisure routes at the other.
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price |

| Dublin - Derry 102 nm / 189 km |
Cessna Citation CJ2+, up to 6 passengers | about 0 h 50 min | from 4,500 GBP |

Cessna Citation XLS+, up to 9 passengers | about 1 h 40 min | from 10,400 GBP |
| Brussels - Derry 488 nm / 904 km |

Embraer Legacy 600, up to 13 passengers | about 2 h 55 min | from 24,600 GBP |
| Alicante - Derry 1,041 nm / 1,929 km |
Embraer Legacy 600, up to 13 passengers | about 3 h 00 min | from 25,100 GBP |
| Malaga - Derry 1,108 nm / 2,052 km |
Embraer Legacy 600, up to 13 passengers | about 3 h 10 min | from 26,200 GBP |
Two things worth knowing about these sectors
– Every one of these leaves Northern Ireland, so clearance through the main terminal applies to them, and to Dublin as much as to Malaga. Allow a few extra minutes at each end and nothing more;
– Donegal and Belfast are missing from the table deliberately. Carrickfinn is three quarters of an hour away by road and Aldergrove an hour and a quarter, so on both we quote a car rather than selling a twenty-minute hop.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
Hourly rates show what the aircraft itself contributes. The list runs from the least expensive upwards, and the two lines at the bottom carry a condition here, because a runway just under two kilometres asks for a performance calculation before a very large aeroplane is confirmed.

The cost per hour indicated above is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! – the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6500 business jets of different configurations and production years, and the list is constantly updated. The five groups below are the ones that matter for a flight into Eglinton.
Turboprops
Strong on the Irish Sea crossings, where a jet barely reaches cruise before starting down. From Glasgow a PC-12 lands only a few minutes behind a light jet and costs noticeably less.
Light jets
The class that carries most of our traffic here, and the reason the figures in the table sit where they do. Six seats, and well under an hour and a half from anywhere in Britain.
Midsize
A stand-up cabin and a hold that takes golf bags, which on this route is often the point. Eight or nine seats, and the step up from a light jet is smaller than the hourly rates suggest.

Super-midsize and heavy
For a party of thirteen, or for a long sector down to Spain where the extra range earns its keep. These operate comfortably at Eglinton, though a full fuel load out of a 1,967-metre runway is confirmed against the day rather than assumed.
Ultra-long range, with a calculation
The airport states that it caters for business jets up to and including converted airliners, and its handling is scaled accordingly. On a runway of this length, though, what a very large aeroplane can lift is worked out per flight, so we settle the performance figures before confirming anything.
This is only a small part of the fleet open to us. Up to a heavy cabin the choice here comes down to your party and your budget; above that it comes down to the performance figures for your particular day, which we settle first.

Business aviation airports in Derry
Derry has one airport and it is the only one in the north west of the island that takes jets. The panel sets out the facts, and the note underneath covers the two procedures that apply whichever direction you are travelling.
The two procedures that still apply on a domestic flight
The first is prior permission. Eglinton is a scheduled airport with a modest movement count, and private traffic is accepted by arrangement rather than by simply filing a plan. This is a straightforward request handled by the airport's own operations desk and rarely refused, but it is not something to leave until the morning of the flight.
The second is particular to Northern Ireland. Aircraft arriving from or departing to anywhere outside the province must use the main terminal building for clearance by customs, immigration and Special Branch as applicable. That includes a flight from London, which surprises people, and it makes the walk from the aircraft a little longer than the usual few steps into a private lounge. It adds minutes rather than complications.

The other fields in range, and what each is genuinely for:
| Field | What it takes and when it suits |
|---|---|
| Belfast International BFS / EGAA, 40 nm |
The main airport of Northern Ireland, with a long runway, round the clock operation and no restriction on aircraft size. The answer when a heavy jet needs full fuel or the arrival falls outside Eglinton's hours. About an hour and a quarter by road, since Aldergrove sits west of Belfast and closer to Derry than the city is |
| Belfast City BHD / EGAC, 51 nm |
George Best, five minutes from the centre of Belfast and the most convenient arrival in the province for a meeting there. A shorter runway and noise rules on its hours, so it suits light and midsize aircraft |
| Donegal CFN / EIDL, 41 nm |
Carrickfinn, across the border in the Republic and famous for its coastal approach. A short runway suited to turboprops and light aircraft. Three quarters of an hour away, and a different country for paperwork |
| Dublin DUB / EIDW, 102 nm |
The deepest choice of aircraft on the island at short notice, every category handled. Around two and a quarter hours by road, so it wins when the trip takes in the capital |
| Glasgow GLA / EGPF, 105 nm |
Across the water rather than on the island, and closer to Eglinton than most of England. Relevant mainly as a departure point, and a reminder that the Scottish sectors here are among the shortest we price |
Three practical points
– Because the flight is domestic, there is no passport requirement in law. Airlines, handlers and the airport will still ask for photographic identification, so travel with a passport or a driving licence rather than assuming nothing is needed;
– Handling here is provided by the airport itself rather than by a competing FBO, which keeps the arrangement simple and means the quote you receive is the quote there is;
– The airfield closes at half past nine in the evening. Later departures are available on request and subject to availability, but they are asked for in advance rather than negotiated on the night.
The business lounge handles the waiting and the paperwork, and half an hour before departure is ample. What our consultants settle against your date is the prior permission, since without it there is no flight to plan the rest of the day around.
From the apron to the city and the coast
Eglinton is close to the city and the roads on this side of the province are quiet, so transfers here are short and predictable. The figures below are clear-road times.
eleven kilometres south-west, along the shore of the loughabout 10 minutes
east along the lough, at the foot of Binevenaghabout 15 minutes
west across the border into County Donegalabout 40 minutes
north-east, for the links and the cliffsabout 45 minutes
north into Inishowen, for the golfabout 50 minutes
south through Omagh, for the lakesabout 1 h 20 min
east on the A6 through Glenshaneabout 1 h 40 min
south-west along the Atlantic coastabout 1 h 50 min
south on the A5 and the N2about 2 h 15 min
Which airport actually shortens your day
For Derry itself, Inishowen, the Causeway coast and the whole of County Donegal, Eglinton is the clear answer and beats Belfast International by about an hour on the road. Belfast takes over for the eastern half of the province and for anything needing a longer runway or a late arrival. Dublin is worth quoting only when the trip includes the capital. Tell us where you are actually staying rather than naming the region, and we will price whichever field puts you at the door first.
Helicopter transfers from Eglinton
A rotary leg from Eglinton is uncomplicated, with low ground, short distances and an open coastline. The times below are flying minutes, best read against road figures that are already good.
When the rotary leg earns its cost
Rarely for the city itself, since the drive is ten minutes and no helicopter improves on that. Where it works is a golf itinerary. Royal Portrush, Ballyliffin, Castlerock and Portstewart are spread along two coastlines with slow roads between them, and a machine turns three separate days into one.
Two constraints govern it. Coastal weather closes rotary options faster than it closes the roads, so we keep a car booked as the fallback. And landing anywhere other than a licensed site is agreed with the landowner and the club beforehand.
Flying to Derry with a dog or a cat
Taking a dog to Derry is easier than to any European destination, and by a wide margin. The rules changed in favour of owners rather than against them, which is unusual enough to spell out, because many people still follow the old and far heavier procedure.
What you no longer need, and the one thing you do
Taking a dog, cat or ferret from Great Britain to Northern Ireland no longer requires an animal health certificate, a rabies vaccination or a tapeworm treatment. What replaces all of it is a Northern Ireland pet travel document, which costs nothing, is issued by Defra and lasts for as long as you own the animal. The single requirement behind it is a working microchip. There is one condition specific to flying rather than sailing: you must notify the Northern Ireland agriculture department at least ten working days before you travel, and that notice period is the only part of this that can catch you out on a short-notice charter.
What this journey actually requires:
- A microchip that is implanted and readable, which is the whole of the identification requirement. Bring the chip number with your travel papers in case it needs scanning;
- A Northern Ireland pet travel document, applied for once and valid for the life of your ownership. It is free, and it covers repeat journeys without renewal;
- Written notice to the agriculture department in Belfast at least ten working days ahead when the animal is travelling by air. On a charter arranged inside that window we will tell you plainly rather than let you find out at the aircraft;
- No rabies vaccination, no tapeworm treatment and no veterinary certificate for this journey. If your trip continues into the Republic of Ireland afterwards, all three come back, because that crosses into the European Union;
- An acknowledgement at booking that the animal will not be taken onward into the EU, which is a condition of the scheme rather than a formality we have invented.
The return leg is simpler still. Coming back from Northern Ireland into Great Britain there are no routine checks at all, and no treatment is required for a dog because the whole island is free of the tapeworm that governs the continental rules. Cats and ferrets are in the same position. In practical terms the animal walks on at one end and off at the other.
Under an hour and a half from London with no hold, no crate and no separation at either end makes this about as gentle a journey as an anxious dog will meet. The wider rules for other destinations sit on our travel with pets page. The point to carry away here is the notice period, since on this route it is the paperwork lead time rather than the flight that sets how early you must start.
The season in the north west
This corner of the island has a long shoulder season and no real peak, bar the weeks when the golf calendar comes to the Causeway coast.
When the north west is busy, and what it means for a booking
– Any week carrying a championship at Royal Portrush. When the Open or a comparable event comes to the coast, aircraft, hotel rooms and cars across two counties are committed a year ahead and Eglinton runs at a level it never otherwise sees;
– May through September, the golf and touring season, when the links courses are busiest and the Causeway coast carries most of its visitors;
– The Halloween festival at the end of October, which fills the city for several days and is among the largest events of its kind in Europe;
– November through March, when permissions are easy and prices soften. The weather here is wet rather than cold, and the airport rarely closes for it.
Types of flights
Our company provides all types of business flights. Due to a wide variety of jets, we can arrange:
- private flights;
- corporate flights;
- business class flights;
- concert tours;
- medical flights (with doctors and special equipment on board);
- tourist flights for large and small groups;
- sports charters for teams and coaching staff;
- combined flights (partly by business jet, and partly by helicopter);
- exclusive flights on luxury jets for businessmen, celebrities, and politicians;
- cargo flights, etc.
A flexible approach and a wide experience allow us to solve problems of any complexity. In 90% of cases, we manage to arrange urgent flights (on the day of application). That holds on this route more often than on most, because the sectors are short and aircraft are usually within reach. Two items still need lead time at Derry: the prior permission from the airport, and, if a dog is travelling, the ten working day notification. We recommend sending a request as far ahead as your dates allow.

Empty Legs
Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way. The Irish Sea crossings produce a great many of these, because an aircraft that has brought one party into Eglinton frequently returns towards Belfast, Glasgow or the London fields with nobody aboard. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.
It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.

Jet Sharing
Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.
We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1200 to 6000 pounds (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.
Main advantages of this service:
- All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
- You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
- No baggage restrictions;
- Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
- Pets can be carried directly in the aircraft cabin.
Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter
Private Jets UK clients have access to a rotary fleet across the island of Ireland and western Scotland. Machines are normally boarded on the apron at Eglinton, a short walk from where the jet parks. Where a particular type is based elsewhere we arrange a car to the nearest licensed site.
The types that suit this region, and the job each one does:
- Airbus H125, four passengers with clubs or luggage, the least costly way off the Eglinton ramp and enough for a hop up to the Causeway coast;
- Airbus H130, up to six seats, a quieter cabin on the same single-engine platform and the usual answer for a family;
- Airbus H135, six seats, a light twin with the performance for a coastal crossing and the type we put on an evening movement;
- Agusta AW109, six seats, faster again and the choice for a multi-course golf day across Antrim, Londonderry and Donegal.
Availability turns week by week, and championship golf weeks on the Causeway coast commit furthest ahead. Please contact our aviation consultants for the current position on a particular model and date.

Derry charters we have flown: six trips from the booking notes
These come from our own files, with surnames reduced to initials and details altered so that no client is identifiable. Each turned on something particular to this airport or to Northern Ireland.
DOG · NOTICE PERIOD
Ms E. McL.: the free document with a waiting time attached
London Luton to Derry, Citation XLS+, 1 h 20 min · 4 passengers and a collie
She had budgeted for the full continental routine, having taken the dog to France the year before, and was pleased to learn that none of it applied. What did apply was the ten working day notification for an animal travelling by air, and the flight was seven days out. We moved the departure by a week rather than pretend the notice could be compressed, and the paperwork itself cost nothing.
CLEARANCE · TERMINAL
Mr D. H.: a domestic flight that still went through the building
Farnborough to Derry, Challenger 350, 1 h 20 min · 6 passengers
A first-time client who expected to step off the aircraft onto a car, as he does at Farnborough. Arrivals from outside Northern Ireland use the main terminal for clearance, so there is a short walk and a formality at the end of it. We had set this out in the quote. He remarked afterwards that being told beforehand was the entire difference between a curiosity and an irritation.
GOLF · TWO COASTS
A Cheshire golfing party: four links, three days
Manchester to Derry, Phenom 300E, 1 h 05 min · 8 passengers
Eight players with clubs, which is what the midsize hold exists for, and an itinerary taking in Royal Portrush, Portstewart, Castlerock and Ballyliffin. Those sit on two coastlines with slow roads between them. A light twin from the Eglinton apron with landings agreed at each club turned what would have been a week of driving into three days of golf.
HOURS · LATE RETURN
A Belfast law firm: a hearing that finished after nine
Derry to London Luton, Citation XLS+, 1 h 20 min · 5 passengers
The airfield closes at half past nine and the case was plainly going to run late. Out of hours operation is available on request rather than on demand, so we asked for it when the booking was made instead of when the court rose. The extension was granted, the aircraft left at a quarter past ten, and the alternative would have been a night in Derry and a wasted morning.
RUNWAY · FULL FUEL
An energy company: thirteen people and a long onward leg
Derry to Malaga, Legacy 600, 3 h 10 min · 13 passengers
A board meeting in the north west followed directly by a site visit in Andalusia. Thirteen passengers and nearly eleven hundred miles meant a full fuel load out of a runway just under two kilometres. The performance figures worked for the day in question, with a modest margin, and we confirmed them before quoting rather than discovering the problem at the holding point.
SHORT SECTOR · VALUE
Mr and Mrs A. R.: forty minutes and a fraction of the expected cost
Belfast International to Derry, Citation M2, 0 h 40 min · 3 passengers
A connection off a long-haul arrival at Belfast with an elderly relative who could not face the drive over the Glenshane pass at the end of it. Forty minutes in a light jet came in under four thousand pounds, which was a good deal less than they had assumed a private flight of any kind would cost. Short sectors are where this destination is unusually good value.
Derry and the north west: destination overview
Derry is the second city of Northern Ireland and the only completely walled city on the island. Around eighty-five thousand people live within it, the seventeenth-century walls survive intact and unbroken, and the River Foyle divides it in a way that is geographic and, historically, a great deal more than geographic. It was the United Kingdom City of Culture, and the decade since has left it with a food scene visitors rarely expect.
Where to stay
The city is small enough to stay anywhere in it. The Waterside, on the eastern bank and nearer the airport, is quieter; the Cityside within the walls puts you among the restaurants and the bars on Waterloo Street. For a golf trip the sensible base is the Causeway coast itself, at Portrush or Portstewart, three quarters of an hour away and on the doorstep of the links. Anyone heading into Donegal should note that Letterkenny is a different jurisdiction, so a hire car crossing the border needs the right insurance.
What to do
Walking the full circuit of the walls takes about an hour and is the one thing everybody should do. The Peace Bridge across the Foyle, the Guildhall and the murals of the Bogside together tell the recent history without much need for a guide. North of the city the Causeway coast runs from Downhill and Castlerock past Portrush to the Giant's Causeway, and it is among the finest coast roads in these islands. West lies Inishowen, which most visitors miss entirely and should not.
When it is busy
The Halloween festival at the end of October fills the city for several days and is the busiest week of its year. Championship golf on the Causeway coast is the only thing that stretches the airport itself. Summer is steady rather than frantic, and midwinter is quiet, cheap and often startlingly beautiful.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Derry
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Derry?
About 1 hour 20 from Luton or Farnborough and 1 hour 25 from Biggin Hill or London City, over a distance of 308 to 341 nautical miles. From Manchester allow around 1 hour 5, from Birmingham 1 hour 10, from Glasgow about 50 minutes and from Belfast International around 40 minutes. These are block times with taxi and approach included.
2How much does a private jet to Derry cost?
From about 3,900 GBP one way out of Belfast International on a light jet, 4,600 GBP from Glasgow and 5,000 GBP from Edinburgh. Manchester runs around 5,900 GBP and Birmingham 6,500 GBP, while London Luton is about 7,200 GBP on a six-seat Citation CJ2+. Those cover the whole aircraft one way rather than a seat, and a larger cabin from the same field adds roughly a quarter.
3Which airport do private jets use for Derry?
City of Derry, LDY or EGAE, also known as Eglinton, eleven kilometres north-east of the city on Lough Foyle. The runway is 1,967 metres, the airfield operates from 06:30 to 21:30 with out of hours available on request, and private movements need prior permission arranged through the airport's operations team. Belfast International is the alternative when a heavy jet needs full fuel or the arrival falls outside those hours.
4Do I need a passport to fly privately from Great Britain to Derry?
Not as a legal requirement, because the flight is domestic within the United Kingdom. In practice the airport, the handler and the operator will all ask to see photographic identification, so travel with a passport or a driving licence. One point does surprise people: aircraft arriving from outside Northern Ireland are required to use the main terminal for clearance by customs, immigration and Special Branch as applicable, so the walk from the aircraft is slightly longer than at a purely private terminal.
5Can I bring a dog to Derry from Great Britain?
Yes, and it is markedly simpler than any European destination. No animal health certificate, no rabies vaccination and no tapeworm treatment are needed. What you need is a working microchip and a Northern Ireland pet travel document, which is free, issued by Defra and valid for as long as you own the animal. When the animal travels by air you must also notify the Northern Ireland agriculture department at least ten working days in advance, which is the one item that requires planning.
