Private jet charter in Nicaragua
A client planning Nicaragua from London first has to decide whether the trip is about the capital and the colonial cities, or about the Pacific beaches, because the two are served by different runways and the second one closes at dusk. The distance is the other fixed point: 4,851 nautical miles from Farnborough to Managua is 101 more than a Falcon 900LX is published to fly. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Nicaragua that means one big international airport, a resort strip on the Pacific that takes jets in daylight only, and an easy entry rule for British citizens, with no visa for up to 90 days.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Nicaragua depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Farnborough, a Dassault Falcon 900LX to Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua with one technical stop in the Azores, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Nicaragua?
Nicaragua keeps UTC-6 all year and does not change its clocks, so Managua is six hours behind London in winter and seven hours behind in summer. A Falcon 900LX is published at about 4,750 nautical miles, and the line from Farnborough to the capital measures 4,851. Reserves would be gone long before landing, so the aircraft is routed through Santa Maria in the Azores: 1,400 nautical miles out, then 3,725 on to Managua, 274 more in total. That leaves about 1,025 nautical miles in hand on the long second leg. The Global 6000 and the Gulfstreams fly the crossing in one go. Westbound the wind works against the aircraft, so the figures below are airborne hours only:
5,125 nautical miles from Farnborough in two legs, with about an hour on the ground at Santa Mariaabout 12 h 30 min plus the stop
4,851 nautical miles from Farnborough, with about 1,149 nautical miles of range in handabout 10 h 45 min
4,851 nautical miles, with a cabin for up to 16about 10 h 45 min
4,851 nautical miles, helped by the westerly flowabout 9 h 10 min
The Caribbean coast is closer to Britain
Corn Island lies 4,728 nautical miles from Farnborough and Bluefields 4,765, so the Falcon routing through the Azores costs about £2,700 less to Bluefields than to Managua. The Pacific resorts are slightly further than the capital, with Costa Esmeralda at 4,880 nautical miles.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– From Farnborough the Falcon 900LX with its Azores stop is quoted at £126,800, a Global 6000 flying direct at £131,200, a Gulfstream G550 at £137,350 and a G650ER at £154,800. The Global spares the passengers about 1 h 45 min of flying plus the hour on the ground, and costs about £4,400 more;
– Each figure includes the aircraft's own flight back over the Atlantic, loaded or empty. Air Passenger Duty is charged per passenger on departures from a British airport and appears in the quotation as a separate line.
Private jet flights within Nicaragua and to its neighbours
The Caribbean coast and the Corn Islands are normally reached by air from Managua, and the Pacific resorts are a short flight from the capital. The table prices each sector with the type a broker would normally pick. Coast and island sectors go to turboprops and light jets because the runways there are shorter and the services thinner:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |

Two things worth knowing about the sectors
– Managua to Costa Esmeralda is a hop of a few minutes that replaces a road transfer to the Pacific beaches;
– A sector to San Pedro Sula in Honduras is a separate entry, and British citizens can visit Honduras for up to 90 days without a visa. Passengers bound for Florida need an approved ESTA or a visa.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Nicaragua:
Turboprops
Not built for the Atlantic, but the sensible size for the Caribbean coast, the Corn Islands and short hops from the capital.
Light jets
A regional pick for four to six passengers between Managua, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala.
Super-midsize
Short of range for the crossing, yet a good match for Central American sectors. The XLS+ is the economical option, and the Challenger 350 reaches further.
Heavy jets
For a family or a delegation of eight to twelve on regional sectors; from Britain these need two stops.
Ultra-long range
The class that makes the journey from Britain work: a Falcon with one stop in the Azores is the cheapest crossing, and the Global and Gulfstream types need no stop at all.

A quotation names the aircraft that brings you out and says what it does afterwards: waits on the apron, flies home empty, or repositions to Florida. Each option changes the figure at the bottom.

Business aviation airports in Nicaragua
Nicaragua has one airport that every large aircraft knows and a handful of smaller fields that decide what the second half of a trip looks like. Managua handles almost every arrival from Britain, Costa Esmeralda and Montelimar serve the Pacific resorts, and the Caribbean strips are for onward hops:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Augusto C. Sandino International MGA / MNMG |
in the sixth district of Managua, about 11 kilometres east of the city centre | The only large international airport and our price basis. One asphalt runway, 10/28, of 2,442 metres (8,012 feet) at 59 metres above sea level, with an instrument landing system. The tower is listed as working round the clock and the administration office on weekdays from 08:00 to 17:00 local time. Customs is available, slots are not required, and handling is mandatory. Consorcio Aviation and Just Aviation are listed as flight support companies |
| Costa Esmeralda ECI / MNCE |
in the Tola area of Rivas department on the Pacific coast, about 10 kilometres west of Tola | A resort airport that is open to all. One asphalt runway, 03/21, of 1,525 metres, at 23 metres above sea level, with visual approaches only. It works in daylight, from 06:00 to 17:30 local time, with a manned tower. The airport states that it takes aircraft up to the Gulfstream G550 and G650, the Global Express and the Falcon 7X, with an apron for three, and that Jet A is available. Customs and immigration are said to be on site; the handler confirms the arrangement for each arrival |
| Montelimar MNMR |
at San Rafael del Sur on the Pacific coast, beside the Barceló Montelimar resort | A smaller coastal field. The asphalt runway, 05/23, is listed at 2,036 metres including displaced thresholds, with 1,465 metres marked for use, at 29 metres above sea level. It is a light and midsize option for guests of the resort; customs arrangements are checked for each flight before it is accepted |
| Bluefields BEF / MNBL |
on the Caribbean coast, serving the town of Bluefields | An asphalt runway, 05/23, of 2,019 metres including a displaced threshold of 175 metres, at 12 metres above sea level. La Costeña flies scheduled services from Managua, Corn Island and Puerto Cabezas. We use it for light jets and turboprops, and we confirm fuel and ground services before the flight |
| Corn Island RNI / MNCI |
on the larger of the two Corn Islands, about 70 kilometres off the Caribbean coast | The island strip, 03/21, is about 1,900 metres of asphalt at 5 metres above sea level. Regular flights come from Managua and Bluefields. Services are basic, so a private jet bound for the islands needs fuel and an alternate planned in advance |
| Puerto Cabezas PUZ / MNPC |
in Bilwi, in the north of the Caribbean coast | An asphalt runway, 09/27, of 2,472 metres at 21 metres above sea level, served by scheduled flights from Managua and Bluefields. The town has Nicaragua's only hyperbaric chamber, according to the FCDO, which matters to divers on the coast |
| Santa Maria LPAZ |
3,725 nautical miles from Managua, in the Azores | The usual technical stop on the way out. Its runway is 3,048 metres long and transatlantic traffic has used it for decades. The quotation names it, and the passengers normally stay aboard while the aircraft is refuelled |
Three points settle most arrivals before a quotation goes out:
Permission: the civil aviation institute, in advance
A foreign private aircraft needs an authorisation number from the Nicaraguan civil aviation institute, INAC, before it lands. The notice usually quoted is 24 hours for aircraft registered in Central America or the United States and 72 hours for other registrations, and we start earlier than that.
Hours: Costa Esmeralda closes at dusk
The tower at Managua works round the clock, but the offices keep weekday hours. The Pacific resort airport takes no night landings and works with visual approaches only, so the arrival time is fixed around the daylight window.
Handling: not optional at Managua
Handling is mandatory at the capital, and a supervisor files the permit request with the aircraft documents. We name the handler in the quotation.
Local time and the clock
Hours are Nicaraguan local time, UTC-6 all year. Airport directories quote Zulu time, so 14:00Z is 08:00 in Managua.
Arriving from Britain: passports, tax and customs
A private flight from London is an international arrival, and for British citizens Nicaragua is one of the easier entries in the region. There is no visa for a stay of up to 90 days.
British citizens need no visa for stays of up to 90 days. An onward ticket may be asked for, and the FCDO says entry can be refused without onenone for 90 days
valid for at least six months after the date of arrivalevery passenger, children included
US$10, payable in cash on arrival; the departure tax is US$35 and is normally included in an air ticket, so the handler tells us what is charged on a private flightcarry small US dollar notes
anything prohibited, taxed or dutiable has to be declared; e-cigarettes and other electronic smoking devices are banned, with or without nicotine, and can be confiscatedevery passenger
The 90 days are shared with two neighbours
Nicaragua belongs to the CA-4 group with Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. For British visitors the 90 days are counted together across Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador from the first entry and do not restart at each border. Honduras also admits British visitors without a visa. Anyone expelled from one of the three is excluded from all of them.
A yellow fever certificate is needed from passengers arriving from a country with a transmission risk. Money matters too: the US dollar is the only foreign currency that changes freely, and banks do not exchange pounds.
Coming home
A flight back into Britain needs a General Aviation Report sent to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure. British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, and most other nationalities do.
Goods bought in Nicaragua are declared in Britain like any other import. Fresh food, plants and meat do not belong in the luggage.

Which airport for which part of Nicaragua
The usual pairings, with straight-line distances from the capital:
Granada is 18 nautical miles from the capital and León 47; neither is served by a runway we use, so both are a drive from the airportManagua (MGA), then road
San Juan del Sur lies 58 nautical miles south of the capital, and the surf beaches of Rivas department are near Costa Esmeralda, 45 nautical miles from ManaguaCosta Esmeralda (ECI) in daylight, or Managua and a transfer
the island with its two volcanoes lies 52 nautical miles from Managua in the lake, and an airstrip at Moyogalpa is listed on the islandManagua (MGA), then road, or a light aircraft to the island strip
the beach hotels of San Rafael del Sur are 30 nautical miles from ManaguaMontelimar (MNMR) or Managua and a car
Bluefields is 146 nautical miles and Corn Island 190 from Managua, with Puerto Cabezas at 206Managua, then a turboprop or light jet
Nicaragua: what our clients go for
Granada is the first name on most lists. Francisco Hernández de Córdoba founded it on the shore of Lake Nicaragua on 21 April 1524. The lake is the largest freshwater lake in Central America, and beside the city the Mombacho volcano rises to 1,345 metres, its collapsed cone having left the 365 small islands known as Las Isletas.
León is the cultural counterweight. Its cathedral and the ruins of León Viejo both stand on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Volcanoes are the country's other signature. Masaya is one of the most visited, and the FCDO lists San Cristóbal, Masaya, Cerro Negro, Telica and Concepción on Ometepe as active; the advice is not to hike one without an experienced guide.
On the Pacific side the surf is the draw. The best breaks lie in Rivas department, where the offshore wind blows on most days of the year, with Playa Maderas and Popoyo among the names. On the other side of the country, the Corn Islands lie about 70 kilometres off the Caribbean coast and attract divers.
The year in Nicaragua: dry months, rain and hurricanes
A charter calendar follows the weather:
the dry season on the Pacific lowlands, with the best chance of clear skies for the colonial cities, the volcanoes and the beaches, and highs of roughly 29 to 32 degrees Celsiuspreferred
the rains return to the Pacific side and continue through October, with 1,000 to 1,500 millimetres falling over the season; we keep an extra weather margin in the planrainy season
the FCDO places the hurricane season in these months; the Caribbean coast is the more exposed side, and we name an alternate airport in the flight planhurricane season
Safety and the FCDO advice
The FCDO page for Nicaragua describes risks and precautions rather than advising against travel. It says that foreigners have been victims of violent crime, that demonstrations can turn violent, and that taking part in political activity is illegal for a foreigner and can mean arrest or deportation. It warns against unauthorised taxis and against driving at night. There is no British embassy in Nicaragua, and help comes from the British Embassy in Costa Rica. The page also warns of strong currents on parts of the Pacific coast, of diving fatalities on the Caribbean coast, and of earthquake risk. We read the page again before each departure and arrange transfers with vetted drivers by daylight.
The Nicaraguan calendar: poetry, patron saints and Christmas
The dates that change a flight plan are mostly religious and civic:
What a holiday does to a flight plan
Offices and handlers keep reduced hours around Holy Week and over Christmas, so we add margin to permits and ground arrangements.

Flying to Nicaragua with a dog or a cat
A dog or a cat can sit in the cabin with its owner. The paperwork has two halves, one for going out and a stricter one for the journey home, and the second half sets how early the trip must be planned.
The Nicaraguan side
A pet dog or cat travelling with its owner does not need an import permit, according to the published guidance we use, although commercial consignments do. The animal needs an original health certificate completed by a licensed vet within 14 days of entry and issued or endorsed by the government vet service of the country of departure. Rabies vaccination must have been given between 30 days and 12 months before entry, and puppies and kittens are not vaccinated before three months of age.
A microchip is recommended rather than demanded, preferably a 15-digit ISO chip, and parasite treatment before the flight is advised. The animal must show no sign of disease that could pass to people.
- The port of entry named for animals is Managua airport. A private arrival at Costa Esmeralda or Montelimar needs the veterinary side agreed in advance;
- The importer should warn the airport veterinary officials before arrival, and this matters most for a landing outside office hours, which is why we plan arrivals in business hours;
- An animal that meets the rules is not quarantined; one that does not can be held, or returned, at the owner's expense, so we confirm the paperwork in writing.
The way home is the demanding half. We treat Nicaragua as a country that is not on the British list of easier-entry countries. A dog or cat then needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel, a blood sample taken at least 30 days after the vaccination and sent to an approved laboratory with a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml, a wait of three months from the date of the sample, and a Great Britain pet health certificate. A dog must also be treated against tapeworm by a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before it lands in Britain. An animal that does not meet the rules can be refused or held in quarantine for up to four months.
Rules for other species are in our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, sold at a fraction of the usual price. A jet that brings a party out from Britain has to be somewhere else next, and much of the regional demand is in the United States and Costa Rica.
Where Nicaraguan empty legs come from
– Florida and the Gulf. Opa-locka lies 927 nautical miles to the north, so a jet that has dropped a party may fly back to Florida empty, or arrive empty to collect a group;
– Costa Rica and Panama. Liberia, San Jose and Panama City are each one short sector away, and they are busy bases for private aircraft;
– The end of a stay on the coast. A jet that brought guests to the Pacific resorts on a Friday may go home empty the following Sunday.
A client who can offer a window of a few days has a far better chance of a match. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Nicaraguan empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managua - San Jose (Costa Rica) | Challenger 350 | 9 seats | £3,700 |
| Managua - Miami (Opa-locka) | Challenger 350 | 9 seats | £8,100 |
| Bluefields - UK (Manchester) | Falcon 900LX | 12 seats | £52,350 |
| Managua - UK (London Farnborough) | Falcon 900LX | 12 seats | £53,250 |
| Managua - UK (Glasgow) | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £53,500 |
| UK (Birmingham) - Costa Esmeralda | Falcon 900LX | 12 seats | £53,550 |
| UK (London Luton) - Managua | Falcon 900LX | 12 seats | £53,550 |
| UK (Edinburgh) - Managua | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £53,900 |
| Costa Esmeralda - UK (London Gatwick) | Gulfstream G550 | 16 seats | £58,300 |
How to read those figures
– Each price covers the whole aircraft, not a seat. A Global 6000 leg at £53,500 with eight aboard works out at about £6,690 a head.

Helicopter charter and air tours
A helicopter earns its place on the short legs where the road is slow. Managua to Granada is 18 nautical miles, which takes about 15 minutes in the air, Ometepe is 52 nautical miles and about 35 minutes, and San Juan del Sur 58 nautical miles and about 40 minutes. These are straight-line figures. The helicopter market in Nicaragua is small, and we confirm an operator and a landing site for each request.
If a client asks for a private helicopter
A transfer depends on an operator being free, on weather over the volcanoes and on a landing site the owner accepts.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Nicaragua
1How long does it take to fly to Nicaragua by private jet?
About 10 hours 45 minutes non-stop from a London airfield to Managua in a Global 6000, and about 12 hours 30 minutes of flying plus an hour on the ground in the Azores in a Falcon 900LX. Nicaragua is six hours behind Britain in winter and seven hours behind in summer.
2How much does a private jet to Nicaragua cost?
From about £126,800 one way from Farnborough to Managua in a Falcon 900LX with one technical stop in the Azores. A Global 6000 non-stop is about £131,200, a Gulfstream G550 about £137,350 and a Gulfstream G650ER about £154,800. Air Passenger Duty is shown as a separate line in the quotation.
3Which airport do private jets use in Nicaragua?
Augusto C. Sandino International in Managua (MGA, MNMG) handles most arrivals and works round the clock in the tower. Costa Esmeralda (ECI, MNCE) serves the Pacific resorts in daylight only, with visual approaches.
4Do British citizens need a visa for Nicaragua?
No. British citizens can stay up to 90 days without a visa, a period shared with Guatemala and El Salvador from the first entry. The passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival, an arrival tax of US$10 is payable in cash, and entry can be refused without an onward ticket.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Nicaragua?
Yes. Nicaragua asks for a health certificate issued within 14 days of entry and endorsed by the government vet, and a rabies vaccination given 30 days to 12 months before entry. The return is harder: Britain does not list Nicaragua as an easier-entry country, which means a blood test, a three-month wait and, for dogs, tapeworm treatment before landing.
6When is the best time to fly to Nicaragua?
The dry season from November to April is the usual choice for the colonial cities, the volcanoes and the beaches. The FCDO places the hurricane season between June and November, and Holy Week and the Christmas season are the quietest for offices and handlers.
