Private jet charter to Reykjavik

Reykjavik is two hours and thirty-six minutes from Luton, and a little over two from Aberdeen, which makes Iceland a shorter flight than most people expect. The part that catches them out is the arrival. Two airports serve the capital: the city field two kilometres from the centre, and Keflavik fifty kilometres down the peninsula. Which one you use is settled by how much tarmac your aircraft needs rather than by preference, because the city runway is only 1,567 metres. A light jet or a super-midsize fits on it and lands ten minutes from your hotel; anything larger goes to Keflavik and forty-five minutes of road. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The aircraft we quote for Iceland sit at the London fields, in Scotland and across Scandinavia, and Scottish departures are the shortest run to Reykjavik from anywhere in Britain. Reykjavik Airport closes overnight, so an arrival after eleven at night means Keflavik whatever the aircraft, and our brokers check the timing against those hours before quoting.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter to Reykjavik depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Every price on this page is indicative and put together the way a real quote is: a named aircraft on a named sector, the passenger count shown. The tables below give current levels, and a personal calculation takes our consultant about 20 minutes through any form here.

How long does it take to fly to Reykjavik?

Two hours thirty-six minutes from Luton over a sector of 996 nautical miles. From Scotland it is considerably shorter: two hours and six minutes from Aberdeen, two ten from Edinburgh, two seven from Glasgow. The city airport is two kilometres from the centre and about ten minutes by road.

These are the sectors we fly most often into Reykjavik. Times include the climb and the descent, and the arrival airport shown is the city field rather than Keflavik:

Two things that move the price on this route

– The size of the aircraft, twice over. A bigger cabin costs more per hour and it also moves you to Keflavik, which adds forty-five minutes of road at each end. On this route the smaller aircraft is often the faster door to door, which is the reverse of the usual advice;

– Handling and customs charges, which are high here by European standards and quoted separately from the flight. They are the same whether the aircraft is full or carrying two people, so the cost per head falls sharply with a bigger party. Out of season, ask about the empty legs: the North Atlantic ferry corridor runs through Iceland and repositioning aircraft pass constantly.

We can arrange flights from any city in the UK. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, please use the form below:

  • Turboprops - from 1400 GBP per flight hour;
  • Small jet - from 1800 to 2500 GBP per flight hour;
  • Light jet - from 2300 to 3200 GBP per flight hour;
  • Medium-sized jet (identical to Cessna Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP, etc.) - from 2900 to 3700 GBP per flight hour;
  • Large medium-class jet (similar to Challenger 300, etc.) - from 4500 to 5000 GBP per flight hour;
  • Large jet (similar to Legacy 600) - from 4900 to 5700 GBP per flight hour;

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database holds over 6500 business jets. On this route the classes divide along one line, which is whether the aircraft fits the city runway or has to use Keflavik:

Turboprops

Useful inside Iceland rather than for getting here. A PC-12 does Akureyri in forty-eight minutes and lands on gravel strips a jet cannot use, which on this island is a real advantage.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 8 seatsfrom £1,500/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,700/h

Light jets

What most of the table above is flown on, and the natural choice from Scotland. Seven hundred nautical miles from Aberdeen asks nothing unusual, and these aircraft use the city runway with room to spare.

Cessna Citation M2 · 7 seatsfrom £2,100/h
Embraer Phenom 300 · 6 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h

Super-midsize

The largest class that still lands two kilometres from the city centre. An XLS+ is the usual answer from London with a full cabin, and a Challenger 350 fits the runway too, though with less margin on a wet day.

Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £2,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £4,200/h
Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,600/h

Heavy jets

Keflavik only. A Challenger 605 needs around 1,780 metres to get airborne and the city runway is 1,567, so this class lands fifty kilometres out whatever the passenger would prefer. Worth knowing before the cabin is chosen.

Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Embraer Legacy 650 · 13 seatsfrom £5,300/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £5,500/h

Ultra-long range

Keflavik as well, and mostly seen here as a fuel stop rather than a destination. The North Atlantic ferry route runs through Iceland, and a good share of the long-range movements at Keflavik are aircraft passing between Europe and the American continent.

Bombardier Global 5000 · 13 seatsfrom £6,900/h
Gulfstream G550 · 16 seatsfrom £7,000/h
Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom £7,200/h

Business aviation airports in Reykjavik

Two airports serve the capital and they are not interchangeable. Reykjavik Airport sits inside the city, two kilometres from the centre, and takes private traffic up to the super-midsize classes. Keflavik is the international gateway fifty kilometres down the Reykjanes peninsula, with two runways of three thousand metres and everything else the larger aircraft need. Both are run by Isavia.

Reykjavik (RKV / BIRK)
runways of 1,567 m and 1,230 m, customs on the field, ten minutes by road
2 km to the centre
Keflavik (KEF / BIKF)
two runways of about 3,050 m, open around the clock, 45 minutes by road
50 km to the centre
City airport hours
08:00 on weekends and holidays, which rules it out for a late arrival
07:00 to 23:00
Handling
handling and customs charges here are high by European standards
mandatory at both

The runway, not the preference, picks your airport

A Citation XLS+ needs a little over a thousand metres to get airborne and lands in the city. A Challenger 605 needs closer to eighteen hundred and cannot, so it goes to Keflavik and the party spends fifty kilometres on the Reykjanesbraut at each end. This is the rare route where choosing a smaller aircraft can genuinely get you there sooner, and it is worth raising before the cabin is picked rather than afterwards.

The other constraint at the city airport is the clock. It works from seven in the morning until eleven at night, an hour later on weekend mornings, so a flight that lands at midnight goes to Keflavik regardless of what is flying it. Keflavik is open around the clock and is also the standard technical stop on the North Atlantic ferry route, which is why the ramp there holds a mix of arriving business jets and aircraft simply passing between continents.

Where people go from the ramp

– Central Reykjavik, ten minutes from the city field and forty-five from Keflavik;

– The Blue Lagoon, twenty minutes from Keflavik and fifty from the city, which is the one case where the far airport is the shorter drive;

– The Golden Circle, Thingvellir and Geysir, an hour to an hour and a half inland;

– The south coast, Vik and the glacier lagoons, two to five hours by road and the reason people charter a helicopter or a turboprop instead;

– Akureyri and the north, forty-eight minutes by air against five hours of driving.

Flying to Reykjavik with a dog or a cat

This is the rare destination where the honest answer is usually no. Iceland has no rabies and protects that status with the strictest animal import rules in Europe, and a pet cannot simply travel with you the way it can to France or Denmark.

Iceland requires an import licence and a quarantine period

Animals entering Iceland need a licence applied for in advance, and on arrival they go into an approved quarantine facility rather than home with you. That period is measured in weeks, not hours, and it applies to a holiday pet exactly as it applies to a permanent import. There is no version of this where a dog flies in on Friday and walks around Reykjavik on Saturday. For a two week trip it makes no sense at all, and we say so rather than take the booking and let you discover it at the ramp. For a permanent move it is entirely workable, and the planning starts several months ahead.

If you are moving to Iceland rather than visiting, the outline is:

  • An import licence from the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority, applied for well before travel and granted before the animal leaves Britain;
  • An ISO microchip, a rabies vaccination and a rabies antibody blood test, with the timings dictated by the licence conditions;
  • Additional testing and treatments that go beyond the European standard, including parasite work not required elsewhere;
  • A booked place in the quarantine facility, which has limited capacity and is the item that usually sets the date of the move.

Three practical points

– Book the quarantine place first and the flight second. The facility fills up, and every other date depends on it;

– Assistance dogs are handled differently from pets, and if that is your situation tell us at the enquiry rather than assuming the rules above apply;

– Because these requirements are strict and they do change, we confirm the current position with the Icelandic authority in writing for your dates before any pet booking is accepted.

Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are set out on our flying with pets guide, though for Iceland specifically the licence is the governing document in every case.

  6. tourist flights for large and small groups;
  7. sports charters for teams and coaching staff;

Empty Legs

Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way (for example, when the passenger flies from England to Reykjavik). After the flight, the jet returns to its home base (for example, to London Farnborough airport) empty. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.

It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.

Jet Sharing

Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.

We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1200 to 6000 pounds (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.

Main advantages of this service:

  • All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
  • You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
  • No baggage restrictions;
  • Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
  • Pets can be carried directly in the aircraft cabin.

Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter

Iceland is the strongest case for rotary work anywhere we operate, and not because the roads are slow. Much of the interior has no roads at all, glaciers cannot be driven onto, and an active fissure is closed to the public on the ground while being perfectly visible from the air. The helicopter is not a shortcut here; it is the access:

Reykjavik to the Golden Circle
an hour and a half by road, longer in winter
about 20 minutes
Reykjavik to a glacier landing
not reachable by car at all
30 to 40 minutes
Reykjavik to the south coast and Vik
two and a half hours by road
about 35 minutes
Reykjavik to an erupting fissure
roads closed, and the only safe way to see one
20 to 30 minutes
Reykjavik to the Highlands interior
four-wheel drive and a river crossing in summer only
30 to 50 minutes

The machines that work these routes

– Airbus H125, which is the workhorse of Icelandic rotary flying and the machine that does the glacier landings;

– Bell 407 and Airbus H130 for a party of six, and the usual choice for the longer sightseeing legs;

– Airbus H145 for larger groups and for anything in marginal weather, where the second engine and the equipment matter.

Two points on rotary legs here

– Weather governs everything and changes fast. These flights are confirmed on the morning rather than weeks ahead, and a fixed itinerary that depends on one is a mistake. Build in an alternative day;

– Volcanic activity opens and closes areas at short notice, and exclusion zones around an eruption are set by the authorities and enforced. Operators fly to the edge of them legally and safely, and no reputable one will fly inside them.

Flight payment options

The main goal of our company is to provide the highest level of comfort to our customers. Therefore, we’re always ready to meet you halfway. Our consultants will offer you a wide variety of flights to meet your needs and budget. Most customers prefer a non-cash method (a transfer to an EU bank account), which guarantees a high level of confidentiality and security of payment. All payment details are provided in advance, so you’ll have enough time to make the necessary checks. For years of working in business aviation, our company has gained an impeccable reputation. We practice transparency and are always ready to present all necessary documents.

Private Jet UK works with both physical and legal entities. We guarantee the confidentiality and security of payments. You can pay for the flights from Reykjavik in any convenient way:

  • cashless (by transfer to our account);
  • by cash;
  • by card;
  • by cryptocurrency.

Our company works with European and British banks, which allows you to choose the most convenient payment method. In addition, we conclude formal agreements and provide our clients with all necessary documents and invoices, which guarantees the safe payment and delivery of services. If you have any financial questions, feel free to contact our private aviation consultants.

If you need to book an urgent flight, please keep in mind that the bank transfer can take a few days. In such situations, we may need to involve our partner companies so that you can pay for your flight in cash. If you have any questions, you can contact your personal consultant 24/7.

Reykjavik charters we have flown: six trips from the booking notes

Written up from our brokers’ own notes. Initials replace names, and details are altered where a client would otherwise be identifiable. The prices are what those bookings cost and the flight times match the tables above.

THE RUNWAY DECIDED IT

Mr H. G.: he asked for a Challenger and took an XLS+

London Luton - Reykjavik, Citation XLS+, 2 h 36 min · 7 passengers

He wanted the bigger cabin and we explained what it would cost him in road time: fifty kilometres from Keflavik at each end against ten minutes from the city field. He took the smaller aircraft and was at his hotel while the Challenger option would still have been on the Reykjanesbraut. About 9,600 GBP one way.

SCOTLAND IS CLOSER

A group of six from the north east

Aberdeen - Reykjavik, Citation M2, 2 h 06 min · 6 passengers

Two hours and six minutes, which puts Iceland closer to Aberdeen than a good many European capitals are. Aberdeen is the shortest run to Iceland from anywhere in Britain and the cheapest line in the table, at about 5,600 GBP. People are consistently surprised by this.

THE ELEVEN O’CLOCK PROBLEM

A dinner that ran up against the airport clock

Reykjavik - London, Citation XLS+, 2 h 36 min · 4 passengers

The dinner ran late and the city airport shuts at eleven at night. The choice was to leave before the airport closed or to reposition to Keflavik and depart from there. They moved the departure forward by an hour, which was the cheaper answer and the simpler one.

NORTHERN LIGHTS · THE WEATHER WEEK

A family who came for the aurora in February

Manchester - Reykjavik, Citation CJ3+, 2 h 28 min · 5 passengers

They booked four nights rather than two, on our suggestion, because the lights are a weather event and not a scheduled one. Three nights were cloudy. The fourth was not. About 8,200 GBP each way.

ARCTIC LEG · TO GREENLAND

A charter continuing west from Iceland

Nuuk - Reykjavik, Citation CJ3+, 2 h 12 min · 6 passengers

Greenland is closer to Reykjavik than Oslo is, and the city field handles this traffic as a matter of routine. Around 7,300 GBP. Scheduled links between the two are thin, and a charter is often the only option that fits a working schedule.

PET · THE ANSWER WAS NO

Ms B. T.: a two week trip with a dog

Enquiry only, no booking taken

Iceland requires an import licence and quarantine on arrival, which is measured in weeks. For a fortnight in the country there is no version of this that works, and we told her so at the enquiry stage instead of quoting the flight. She travelled without the dog and the arrangement stood.

Reykjavik as a destination

Reykjavik is a capital of about a hundred and forty thousand people, roughly the size of Cambridge, and it works accordingly: everything is walkable, everyone seems to know everyone, and the whole thing sits under a mountain with the North Atlantic at the end of the street. Almost nobody flies here for the city alone. It is the door to the island.

What people come for is geology doing things in real time. Iceland straddles the mid-Atlantic ridge, the Reykjanes peninsula has been erupting repeatedly in recent years, and the ground is warm enough that the city heats itself and its swimming pools from underneath. The waterfalls, the glaciers and the black beaches are all within a few hours of the runway.

The seasons here are not a matter of degrees but of light. In late June it does not properly get dark; in late December the sun clears the horizon for about four hours. Both are reasons to come, and they are entirely different trips.

Where to stay

  • The Reykjavik EDITION on the old harbour, the newest of the serious hotels and the one most business visitors book;
  • Hotel Borg on Austurvollur square, art deco from 1930 and the address with the history;
  • The Retreat at the Blue Lagoon, built into the lava field twenty minutes from Keflavik, which is a destination rather than a place to sleep;
  • Deplar Farm in the north, a former sheep farm turned lodge, reachable by helicopter and booked by the week;
  • The Hotel Ranga on the south coast, out under dark skies, which is where people go for the aurora rather than the town.

What to do

  • The Golden Circle: Thingvellir where the parliament met from 930 and the continents are visibly pulling apart, Geysir, and Gullfoss;
  • Swim. Every settlement has a geothermal pool and the locals use them daily; the Sky Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon are the polished versions;
  • The south coast to Vik, the black sand at Reynisfjara and the icebergs at Jokulsarlon;
  • Glacier and volcano flights, which is the part of Iceland that a car cannot reach;
  • The aurora between September and April, on a clear night and with the patience to wait for one;
  • Eat. Reykjavik does lamb, langoustine and cod better than its size suggests, and the tasting menus book out.

When the island is busy

  • June to August, the midnight sun, when the country is full and the light lasts all night;
  • New Year in Reykjavik, which the city celebrates with fireworks on a scale that has to be seen;
  • February and March for the aurora, which is the second peak and a very different crowd;
  • Any week when an eruption is in progress, which fills the hotels within days and is entirely unpredictable;
  • October to November and late April, the shoulder weeks, when the island is quiet and this route is at its cheapest.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Reykjavik

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Reykjavik?

Two hours thirty-six minutes from Luton on a Citation XLS+ over the 996 nautical mile sector. From Scotland it is much shorter: two hours and six minutes from Aberdeen, two ten from Edinburgh, two seven from Glasgow. The city airport is ten minutes from the centre.

2How much does a private jet to Reykjavik cost?

From about 5,600 GBP one way from Aberdeen on a Citation M2 and 5,800 GBP from Edinburgh, rising to around 8,200 GBP from Manchester on a CJ3+ and 9,600 GBP from Luton on a Citation XLS+. Each figure buys the whole aircraft. Handling and customs charges in Iceland are high and quoted separately.

3Do private jets land at Reykjavik city airport or at Keflavik?

It depends on the aircraft rather than on preference. The city runway is 1,567 metres, which takes everything up to a super-midsize, and it sits two kilometres from the centre. A heavy jet needs closer to 1,800 metres and therefore uses Keflavik, fifty kilometres out and about forty-five minutes by road. The city airport also closes at eleven at night, so a late arrival goes to Keflavik whatever is flying it.

4Is a smaller aircraft really faster on this route?

Door to door, often yes, and it is the reverse of the usual advice. A super-midsize lands ten minutes from the city while a heavy jet lands fifty kilometres away, so the larger cabin costs you roughly an hour and a half of road across a return trip. It is worth weighing before the aircraft is chosen rather than after.

5Can I bring my dog to Iceland?

Not for a holiday, in practical terms. Iceland is free of rabies and protects that with the strictest import rules in Europe: an import licence granted in advance, and a quarantine period on arrival measured in weeks rather than hours. For a permanent move it is entirely workable with several months of planning. For a fortnight it is not, and we will tell you so rather than quote the flight.
