Hire a Private Jet to Santorini, Greece

Santorini is the most visually iconic of the Greek islands and one of the most celebrated private aviation destinations in the Mediterranean. The island's distinctive crescent shape - the remnant of a volcanic caldera formed by a catastrophic eruption approximately 3,600 years ago - creates an extraordinary landscape of sheer black and red cliffs rising 300 metres above the caldera sea, topped by the whitewashed villages of Fira and Oia whose blue-domed churches have become one of the most photographed images in the world. Private jet charter to Santorini from the UK arrives at Santorini National Airport Thira (JTR / LGSR), a compact island airport located on the north-eastern edge of the main island of Thira, approximately 5 km from the capital Fira and 15 km from Oia. The London to Santorini sector is 1,428 nautical miles - approximately 3 hours 41 minutes by midsize jet - making Santorini comfortably reachable on a direct non-stop flight from all UK departure airports on Challenger 300 class and larger aircraft.

private jet charter Santorini Greece

Santorini Airport (JTR / LGSR) has a single runway of 2,125 metres, which accommodates midsize and large cabin jets but excludes ultra-long-range aircraft in the Global 7500 and Gulfstream G700 class on full fuel loads. The airport has a private aviation handling facility and VIP lounge, though it is significantly smaller and less equipped than the FBOs at Athens or Rhodes. Journey time from the airport to Fira is approximately 10 to 15 minutes by car, and to Oia approximately 30 to 35 minutes. Due to the island's geography, transfers between the airport and the caldera-side hotels and villages involve winding cliff roads. Santorini is one of the most slot-constrained airports in the Greek islands during summer: the single runway and limited apron parking mean that July and August bookings require early planning. For groups arriving from Athens (118 nm, approximately 35 minutes), Santorini is a natural extension of a Greek island circuit.

Key Information:

  • Typical flight time from London to Santorini: approximately 3 hours 41 minutes;
  • Private jet charter prices: from 22,000 EUR;
  • Airport: Santorini National Airport Thira (JTR / LGSR), single runway 2,125 m;
  • Distance from airport to Fira: approximately 5 km, 10 to 15 minutes;
  • Distance from airport to Oia: approximately 15 km, 30 to 35 minutes;
  • Athens to Santorini: 118 nm - approximately 35 minutes by jet;
  • Mykonos to Santorini: 63 nm - approximately 27 minutes by jet;
  • Most popular aircraft: Challenger 300, Challenger 350, Challenger 605;
  • Peak season: June to September - book 6 to 8 weeks ahead for July and August;
  • Available departures from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast.

Santorini draws private aviation clients for two primary reasons: luxury leisure travel and Greek island circuits. On the leisure side, Santorini is one of the top honeymoon and anniversary destinations in the world, and its collection of cave hotel suites cut into the caldera cliffs - Canaves Oia, Mystique, Katikies, Aenaon Villas - represent some of the most extraordinary hotel experiences in Europe. The sunset from Oia is genuinely one of the great natural spectacles of the Mediterranean. On the circuit side, Santorini sits at the heart of the Cyclades island group and connects naturally with Mykonos (63 nm north-west, 27 minutes), Athens (118 nm north-west, 35 minutes), Rhodes (126 nm east, 36 minutes) and Heraklion in Crete (65 nm south-west, 27 minutes). A Santorini-Mykonos-Athens circuit in three to five days is one of the most popular private aviation itineraries we arrange from the UK.

Private jet charter prices to Santorini from London start from approximately 22,000 EUR on a Challenger 300 for the 1,428 nm sector. The final cost depends on aircraft type, departure airport, passenger numbers and any onward island connections.

One important operational note for Santorini: the airport's single runway and limited apron parking capacity mean that slot availability in July and August can be genuinely constrained. During peak summer, we recommend requesting aircraft options 6 to 8 weeks ahead for Santorini departures and arrivals. For groups with flexible dates, early June and September offer excellent weather with significantly better aircraft availability and more competitive pricing than peak July and August.

Prices for the private jet flights to Santorini

The London to Santorini sector of 1,428 nautical miles is slightly longer than the Athens sector and sits at the upper end of the Citation XLS+ range from London, making the Challenger 300 class the more natural choice for this route from most UK airports. The sector is comfortably within non-stop range of all midsize and large cabin jets, and no fuel stop is required from any UK departure city.

Santorini pricing reflects its position as one of the most in-demand Mediterranean island destinations. Peak season surcharges are real and significant: a charter that costs 22,000 EUR in early June can be 25,000 to 27,000 EUR for the same aircraft in the last two weeks of July. This is driven by aircraft availability rather than simple demand pricing - the limited apron at Santorini Airport means fewer aircraft can be positioned there simultaneously, and during peak summer many operators simply do not have aircraft available in the Eastern Mediterranean that can serve the route efficiently.

Clients combining Santorini with Athens or Mykonos on a circuit should note that the island hop prices are modest: Athens to Santorini (118 nm) starts from approximately 4,500 EUR on a light jet, and Mykonos to Santorini (63 nm) from approximately 3,000 EUR. Including these connections as part of a connected charter is often more cost-efficient than booking them separately.

Below are the approximate prices for the flights performed this year. TOP 7 options:

  1. from London to Santorini, 9 passengers, by Challenger 300 - 22,000 EUR;
  2. from London to Santorini, 13 passengers, by Legacy 650 - 31,000 EUR;
  3. from Edinburgh to Santorini, 9 passengers, by Challenger 350 - 26,500 EUR;
  4. from Manchester to Santorini, 9 passengers, by Challenger 300 - 24,000 EUR;
  5. from Glasgow to Santorini, 12 passengers, by Challenger 605 - 29,500 EUR;
  6. from Belfast to Santorini, 9 passengers, by Challenger 350 - 27,000 EUR;
  7. from Birmingham to Santorini, 13 passengers, by Legacy 650 - 32,500 EUR;

We can arrange flights from any city in the UK and European countries. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

The dog travelled in the cabin throughout the 3 hours 41 minutes flight, on its own bed placed in the rear of the cabin. Charter was approximately 22,500 EUR. On arrival, we coordinated a large vehicle transfer to accommodate the dog crate and family luggage to their villa near Imerovigli.
  • Birmingham to Santorini then Mykonos, Challenger 300, 7 passengers - a birthday celebration circuit. A group celebrating a significant birthday with a four-night itinerary split between Santorini (two nights) and Mykonos (two nights). The Santorini to Mykonos hop (63 nm, approximately 27 minutes) was arranged separately at approximately 3,200 EUR. The group requested specific catering for the outbound flight - a birthday cake, prosecco and a personalised menu - all coordinated with the Birmingham FBO in advance.

Most Requested Aircraft for Flights to Santorini

The UK to Santorini sector of 1,428 to 1,701 nautical miles depending on departure city sits within non-stop range of all midsize and large cabin jets. The Challenger 300 class is the natural fit for most UK-Santorini bookings, though the runway length of 2,125 metres at Santorini Airport limits the heaviest aircraft on full fuel loads.

online private jet directory

  • Challenger 300 / Challenger 350 - the most popular choice for UK-Santorini flights, with a stand-up cabin for up to 9 passengers and the range to serve all UK airports non-stop. Well suited to the 2,125 m runway at Santorini;
  • Citation XLS+ - a cost-efficient option for smaller groups of 6 to 8 passengers from London and Birmingham, where the shorter sector keeps the flight time comfortable for this cabin size;
  • Challenger 605 - preferred for larger groups of 10 to 12 passengers requiring a full stand-up cabin and generous baggage capacity for longer stays;
  • Legacy 650 - the best option for groups of 12 to 13 passengers, offering maximum cabin volume for the 3.5 to 4 hour sector;
  • Hawker 850XP - a popular midsize option for 8 passengers seeking cabin comfort at a competitive price point on the UK-Santorini sector.

Note: ultra-long-range jets in the Global 7500 and Gulfstream G700 class are subject to weight restrictions at Santorini Airport on full fuel loads. Our team confirms aircraft suitability for the Santorini runway as standard for every booking.

Helicopter charter

Private Jets UK clients have access to the top private helicopters. Santorini and the surrounding Cyclades islands are well served by helicopter for inter-island connections and transfers that are impractical or slow by road or ferry. Key helicopter routes and helipad locations from Santorini:

  • Santorini Airport helipad - helicopter arrivals and departures at JTR Airport, adjacent to the main runway. Used for connections to smaller islands without jet-capable runways;
  • Oia helipad - a small helipad serving the northern village of Oia, avoiding the 30-35 minute road transfer from the airport for guests staying in that area;
  • Santorini to Mykonos - 63 nm, approximately 27 minutes by jet or 35 to 40 minutes by helicopter. Helicopter is often preferred for this hop as it offers more flexibility on smaller aprons;
  • Santorini to Heraklion, Crete - 65 nm, approximately 30 to 35 minutes by helicopter;
  • Santorini to Paros - 40 nm, approximately 20 to 25 minutes by helicopter. Paros has no jet-capable runway so helicopter is the only private aviation option;
  • Santorini to Ios - 20 nm, approximately 12 to 15 minutes by helicopter. Ios has no airport - helicopter is the only air access option;
  • Santorini to Folegandros - approximately 25 minutes by helicopter. No airport on the island.

The following helicopters are available for booking:

  • Robinson R44 (3 seats) - 16 helicopters available
  • Robinson R66 (4 seats) - 19 helicopters available

Santorini private jet charter - FAQ

How long is a private jet flight from London to Santorini?
A private jet from London to Santorini takes approximately 3 hours 41 minutes on the 1,428 nautical mile sector. From Edinburgh the sector is 1,655 nm and takes approximately 3 hours 58 minutes. From Manchester approximately 3 hours 44 minutes. All UK airports reach Santorini non-stop on Challenger 300 class and larger jets.

How much does a private jet to Santorini cost?
Private jet charter to Santorini from London starts from approximately 22,000 EUR on a Challenger 300 for 9 passengers. From Edinburgh and Glasgow, prices start from approximately 26,500 to 29,500 EUR. Larger aircraft such as the Legacy 650 for 13 passengers cost from around 31,000 to 32,500 EUR from UK airports. Peak summer prices (mid-July to mid-August) are typically 15 to 20% higher.

Can I combine Santorini with other Greek islands on the same charter?
Yes. Santorini is ideally positioned for island circuits: Mykonos is 63 nm (27 minutes), Heraklion in Crete is 65 nm (27 minutes), Paros is 40 nm (24 minutes) and Athens is 118 nm (35 minutes). We regularly arrange Santorini-Mykonos-Athens circuits and Santorini-Heraklion-Rhodes Eastern Mediterranean loops on a single connected charter.

Are there any aircraft restrictions at Santorini Airport?
Santorini Airport has a single runway of 2,125 metres, which accommodates midsize and large cabin jets including the Challenger 300, Challenger 605 and Legacy 650. Ultra-long-range jets in the Global 7500 and Gulfstream G700 class may face weight restrictions on full fuel loads at this runway length. We confirm aircraft suitability for the Santorini runway as standard for every booking.

When is the best time to fly to Santorini by private jet?
Early June and September offer the best combination of weather, aircraft availability and competitive pricing. July and August are peak season - the airport's limited apron and single runway create genuine slot constraints, and prices are typically 15 to 20% higher. Santorini is not really a winter destination for leisure travel, though the island is accessible year-round.

Can I reach islands near Santorini that have no airport?
Yes, by helicopter. Several nearby islands including Ios (20 nm, 12 minutes), Folegandros (25 minutes) and Paros for smaller helipad-only landings have no jet-capable runways. We arrange helicopter connections from Santorini Airport or from the Oia helipad to these destinations as part of the broader itinerary.

Do UK citizens need a visa for Greece?
No. UK citizens can visit Greece for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. A valid UK passport is required. Private jet passengers clear customs and immigration at the private aviation handling facility at Santorini Airport.

Santorini - destination overview

Santorini occupies a unique position among the Greek islands and indeed among Mediterranean travel destinations as a whole. The island's origins are violent: the enormous volcanic eruption of approximately 1,600 BCE, one of the largest in human history, destroyed what had been a roughly circular island and left the current crescent shape, with the caldera - the submerged remains of the volcanic chamber - now forming a bay approximately 12 km wide, enclosed on three sides by the island's remnants and open to the south-west. The caldera walls rise 300 metres sheer from the water on the western face, and it is on these cliffs that the villages of Fira, Imerovigli and Oia are built, their whitewashed cube houses and blue-domed churches cascading down the volcanic rock in one of the most photographed vistas on earth.

The island has three distinct characters depending on where you stay. The caldera-side villages - Oia, Imerovigli and Fira itself - offer the iconic view, the cave hotels cut into the cliff face, and the concentration of high-end restaurants and boutique retail. The eastern coast, around Kamari and Perissa, is where the island's black sand beaches are located - darker and more dramatic than typical Mediterranean beaches due to the volcanic origin of the sand. And the south, around Akrotiri, contains the extraordinary Minoan Bronze Age settlement preserved under volcanic ash, which rivals Pompeii in its completeness and its testimony to the sophistication of the civilisation the eruption destroyed.

The sunset from Oia is genuinely one of the great natural spectacles in the Mediterranean. The combination of the caldera geometry, the altitude of the village and the western aspect creates a light show as the sun descends into the sea that draws visitors from across the island every evening. The best caldera sunset views are from Oia and from the Skaros rock above Imerovigli, slightly less crowded than Oia itself.

Where to stay in Santorini - hotels

Santorini's hotel scene is dominated by cave hotels - suites cut into the caldera cliff face, typically with private plunge pools overlooking the caldera and extraordinary sunset views. The best properties are clustered in Oia and Imerovigli:

  • Canaves Oia Suites and Canaves Epitome - the most celebrated cave hotel complex in Oia, with individually designed suites featuring private infinity pools carved into the cliff. One of the most photographed hotel properties in the world. Approximately 40 minutes from Santorini Airport.
  • Mystique, a Luxury Collection Hotel - a cliff-side property in Oia with cave suites, an infinity pool, and the Asea restaurant perched above the caldera. Approximately 40 minutes from the airport.
  • Katikies Hotel - a long-established luxury cave hotel in Oia known for its cascading pool terraces and exceptional service. Approximately 40 minutes from the airport.
  • Aenaon Villas - a boutique collection of cave villas in Imerovigli, slightly quieter than Oia and considered by many to offer the finest caldera view on the island. Approximately 20 minutes from the airport.
  • Grace Santorini - a design-led boutique hotel in Imerovigli with a celebrated champagne pool and exceptional restaurant. Approximately 20 minutes from the airport.

Our team can arrange chauffeured transfers from Santorini Airport to any property on the island, and coordinate private dinners, yacht excursions from the old port of Ammoudi beneath Oia, and helicopter connections to other Cyclades islands.
