For the city itself, the High Tech Campus, Den Bosch and the whole of North Brabant, this airport wins comfortably and the margin over Schiphol runs to well over an hour. When the rotary leg earns its cost, and when it does not
Honestly, not often on this route. The motorway network is fast, the distances are small and a car from the apron reaches the city in a quarter of an hour, so a helicopter buys very little for a good deal of money. We will say so rather than sell it.
Where it does work is a multi-site day: a manufacturer with plants in Brabant, Limburg and across the Belgian border can see all three between breakfast and dinner in a way no car will manage. Landing sites away from a licensed field need permission from the province, which takes time, so this is planned weeks ahead rather than arranged on the morning.
Flying to Eindhoven with a dog or a cat
The Netherlands is among the least demanding countries in Europe to take a dog to, and the return is simple as well. The part that catches people is not Dutch at all but a change on the British side that has quietly retired the document a great many owners were relying on.
The one fact to settle before you book
An EU pet passport no longer counts for an owner whose main residence is in Great Britain, whichever member state issued it and however recently. What replaces it is an Animal Health Certificate, signed by an official veterinarian and valid for a single journey, dated within ten days of departure. Accredited practices are busiest through the school holidays, so this appointment belongs in the diary as soon as the dates are firm, and on this route that happens to align with the airport wanting firm dates too.
What the Netherlands asks for on the way in:
- A microchip to ISO 11784 or 11785, implanted and readable before the rabies vaccination is given. In the reverse order the vaccination does not count and the sequence begins again;
- Rabies vaccination from twelve weeks of age, with twenty-one clear days between a first course and departure. A booster given inside the validity of the last one carries no wait;
- An Animal Health Certificate from an official veterinarian, dated within ten days of travel and issued in English alongside Dutch;
- Nothing further on arrival. No worming or tick treatment is asked for at the border, which surprises owners who have read the requirements for Ireland or Finland;
- A limit of five animals per party, relaxed only for a recognised show or competition with the entry paperwork to prove it.
Species matters only on the way home. A dog returning to Great Britain from the Netherlands needs a praziquantel treatment given by a vet between twenty-four and one hundred and twenty hours before it lands, with the date and hour recorded on the certificate. Cats and ferrets are exempt. The Netherlands is a listed country for return, so no antibody test and no waiting period apply.

Eindhoven and North Brabant: destination overview
Eindhoven is the least picturesque and most quietly important city in the Netherlands. Around a quarter of a million people live in it, it grew up around a single electronics company and it now anchors a technology region that produces a striking share of the country's patents. Almost nothing survives of the old town, because the war removed it, and what replaced it is a city of design schools, engineering campuses and converted factories.
Where to stay
Most business visitors stay in the centre around the Eighteenth of September Square and the station, which is walkable and close to the restaurants on Kleine Berg and Wilhelminaplein. Strijp-S, the old Philips factory district north-west of the middle, is the more interesting choice: repurposed industrial buildings, independent hotels and the design crowd. Anyone here for the High Tech Campus will find the southern edge of the city more convenient, and anyone combining Eindhoven with a wider trip should note that Den Bosch and Antwerp are both under an hour away.
What to do
The Van Abbemuseum holds one of the better modern collections in the Netherlands and is the single cultural argument for a spare afternoon. Strijp-S and the Evoluon, a flying saucer of a building put up by Philips and now a museum of the future, together explain what the city is. The Design Academy has made Eindhoven the national centre for the discipline, and its autumn week turns the whole place into an exhibition. Beyond it, Den Bosch has a genuine medieval core and the Brabant countryside is flat, green and better for cycling than for looking at.
When it is busy
Autumn is the pressure point, with the technology and design weeks filling hotels and private capacity together. Midweek in spring and autumn is when the corporate traffic runs. High summer is busy in the terminal and quiet in the boardroom, and midwinter is the cheapest and easiest time to arrange anything.

The Netherlands is inside Schengen and the United Kingdom is not, so the flight crosses an external frontier and the arrival is recorded electronically under the EU entry and exit system. On a private arrival that is completed at the aircraft rather than in a hall.
5Should I fly into Eindhoven, Rotterdam or Schiphol?
For the city itself, the High Tech Campus and North Brabant generally, Eindhoven is the clear answer and saves well over an hour against Schiphol. Rotterdam The Hague is the better choice for the western Randstad and is simpler to book at short notice, which matters when dates are still moving. Schiphol is possible but rarely sensible for a private flight, since capacity is tight and handling costs are the highest in the country.
