Private jet charter in Lausanne

From London, Lausanne is a flight to Geneva followed by a drive along the lake, because the city's own airfield on the hill to the north has one runway of about 875 metres and is built for light aircraft, not for the business jets we charter. Private Jets UK therefore plans every Lausanne trip around the choice of airport first and the aircraft second. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Geneva takes any jet we would put on it, Blécherette suits a turboprop or a helicopter, and Sion or Bern come in when the programme ends in the mountains or the capital. That leaves three things to decide: the gateway, the departure hour and the way you cover the last stretch to the water.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Lausanne depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ landing at Geneva, the airport for Lausanne, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Lausanne?

About 1 hour 20 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City to Geneva in a light jet and 1 hour 15 minutes from Farnborough in a Phenom, then about 40 minutes by road or 15 minutes by helicopter to the city. Switzerland keeps Central European time, so set the watch forward one hour on arrival. The British fields we use lie 404 to 728 nautical miles from Geneva, which makes the jet leg a light-jet sector from the south of England and a midsize one from Scotland. The table gives the flight from each field to Geneva, the airport that carries nearly every Lausanne charter.

London to the lakefront in about four hours

Leave Biggin Hill at seven and the wheels touch at Geneva around half past nine local time. The private terminal handles customs and immigration on site, and a car can wait at the steps. Lausanne lies 62 km up the lake, which is about 40 minutes by road in light traffic, so a client is in Ouchy a little after ten. By helicopter the transfer to the airfield on Lausanne's hill takes about 15 minutes by our estimate, and it ends ten minutes from the old town. Counting the drive to the British airfield, the journey from central London to a table on the lake comes to roughly four hours. By scheduled flight you would land at the same Geneva airport, and the train into Lausanne would add the best part of an hour.

Which airport for which job: Geneva, Blécherette, Sion or Bern

– Geneva for almost every Lausanne trip. It has a 3,900 m runway, three named business aviation operators and customs on site, and it is 62 km from the city. Any aircraft in our catalogue can use it, which is why the price in this page's title is a sector to Geneva;

– Lausanne-Blécherette for a small party in a turboprop or a very light jet, and for helicopters. The single runway is about 875 m at 622 m above sea level, and the types that broker listings name for the field are the Pilatus PC-12 and the Cessna Citation Mustang. A midsize or larger jet is a Geneva booking, whatever a map suggests;

– Sion when the week is really about Verbier or the Valais and Lausanne is only a stop, and Bern when the programme begins at the Federal Palace. Both are quoted as separate sectors, and neither saves time for the lakeshore itself.

Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into Geneva. The road or helicopter leg into Lausanne is quoted alongside the jet and is not part of these figures. The Christmas and New Year weeks, the February half-term and the Montreux jazz fortnight in July sit above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Private jet flights from Lausanne

A Lausanne departure is a Geneva departure in practice, with the car or helicopter first. From there the lake city works well as a start for the Alps, the Riviera and the capitals, and the sensible aircraft depends on the distance. Hops over the mountains are turboprop work, Bern and Zurich are close enough that the train usually wins, and Paris, Milan and Nice are one to two hours in a light jet. Onward from Lausanne: when the aircraft wins and when the road does

Samedan, the airport for St Moritz and Davos, is 164 nautical miles from Geneva, about 55 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, and the mountains in between are why the aircraft beats the road. The Swiss airports are close by comparison: Sion is 53 nautical miles from Geneva, Bern 73 and Zurich 129. For a party already on the lake the flight to Sion is a positioning leg more than a passenger plan, because the Rhone valley road reaches Verbier in a little over an hour from Lausanne. Chambery is 39 nautical miles from Geneva, and it earns its place only when Courchevel or Meribel is on the list.

Before you accept a Lausanne quote

– Which airport the price is for. A quote that says only "Lausanne" is not a quote. The airfield on the hill takes light aircraft and Geneva takes everything, so the first line of the offer should name the field, the handler and the transfer to the city;

– What happens after dinner. The Geneva business terminals list 06:00 to 22:00, and the national night rules bar departures from midnight to 06:00. A departure planned for the evening of the day you arrive has to be built backwards from that window;

– Whether the legs are one booking. Lausanne followed by Verbier and home from Geneva costs less as one trip than as three charters, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of returning to base between stops.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Lausanne:

Light jets, the usual choice for a weekend on the lake

A short sector for four or five people with weekend bags: the aircraft in this class have range to spare, and the 3,900 m runway at Geneva is more than any of them needs. The money saved against a larger cabin is better spent on the car and the table at Ouchy.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for ski bags and a long stay

If the week goes on to Villars, Les Diablerets or Verbier, the hold fills before the seats do. Boot bags in winter, golf clubs in summer, and the shopping that comes home from the old town.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a delegation travelling as one party, or a team that wants to work in the air. Geneva takes the biggest cabins in our catalogue, so nothing changes in the plan except the number of cars waiting.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The aircraft class that fits Blécherette's short runway best, and the right one for the hops across the Alps to Samedan or Chambery. Over distances like these the saving against a jet is real.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

For the last stretch, not for the flight from Britain: A quarter of an hour from Geneva to Lausanne, a lakeside lawn, or a chalet that no road reaches comfortably. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

Airbus H130 · 6 seatson request

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Geneva sees plenty of business aviation traffic, so a quote can often find an aircraft already on the lake, and a jet based at Geneva, Sion or Milan can be cheaper to position than one flying out of Britain. Nobody minds an aircraft that starts its day on the lake, and the saving is often the reason to ask.

Business aviation airports for Lausanne

One airport does the work, one airfield belongs to the city itself, and two more matter when the programme leaves the lake. Which one is right depends on the size of the cabin and on where the evening ends.

Airport What it gives you
Geneva
GVA / LSGG
The gateway for Lausanne: 62 km by motorway along the lake, a 3,900 m runway and a business aviation terminal set apart from the airline halls. Three operators are named there: Jet Aviation, whose FBO lists customs and immigration on site and opening hours of 06:00 to 22:00, Signature Aviation at Terminal C3, and Dassault Aviation Business Services. Every general and business aviation movement needs prior permission, which the handling agent requests. Choose it for any jet, for a heavy cabin and for a programme that also touches Geneva
Lausanne-Blécherette
LSGL / QLS
The city's own aerodrome, about ten minutes from the centre on the hill to the north, with one paved runway of about 875 m at 622 m above sea level. It is a general aviation field with a flying school, a Rega air rescue base and the helicopter company Heli-Lausanne, and the city's published papers list customs facilities and operating hours of 08:00 to 20:00, with night derogations by exception. Broker listings name turboprops and very light jets, so we use it for a PC-12 leg or a helicopter, and not for a midsize jet
Sion
SIR / LSGS
The Valais airport, 37 nautical miles from Lausanne in a straight line, with a 2,000 m runway shared with the Swiss Air Force and a compulsory handling agent for aircraft over 3 tonnes. Think of it for the Verbier leg of a longer trip, not for a weekend by the water
Bern-Belp
BRN / LSZB
The capital's airport, 44 nautical miles from Lausanne: 1,730 m of runway and no slots, but a window of 08:00 to 19:00 local time for business jets above 3.5 tonnes. Choose it when the trip starts at the Federal Palace and ends on the lake

Four things to settle before the wheels touch:

Choose the handler at Geneva

The handler files the prior permission and is named in the flight plan. Jet Aviation and Signature both list a 06:00 to 22:00 day, and Jet Aviation lists de-icing, Jet A-1 fuel and three executive lounges. Dassault Aviation Business Services is the Dassault FBO and Falcon service site. Service and pricing differ, so we ask the operator for its preference and write the choice into the quote.

Hours and the night rules

Geneva's airport publishes its operating hours as 06:00 to 22:00 for non-commercial flights and until 00:30 for commercial ones, so your handler confirms which applies to a business charter, and under the national rules departures are barred from midnight to 06:00 and arrivals from midnight to 05:00. Between 22:00 and midnight movements are allowed under noise conditions. Blécherette lists 08:00 to 20:00. A late dinner on the lake therefore has to be matched to the aircraft's departure window.

Border and passport

Switzerland is a Schengen member but not part of the EU. A flight from Britain therefore meets a passport check on arrival and a customs check under Swiss law, where anything dutiable, taxable or restricted must be declared. Britons travelling on a passport less than ten years old, with three months of validity left after departure, need no visa for 90 days in any 180. Registering a photograph and fingerprints at a first entry costs nothing.

Permits and the Swiss operator rules

A British charter operator also needs Swiss approval. Single permits cover up to three flights in a three-month period and are requested at least 72 hours before the first; four or more flights call for an operating permit applied for 30 days beforehand. The aircraft paperwork carries it, so the quote already assumes it.

business aviation

Border, passport and Swiss customs

For a British passenger the Swiss border has two layers. Passport control follows Schengen practice, while customs follows Swiss law, and the officer may ask where you are staying, how you are insured and how you plan to leave. At Geneva both are dealt with in the business aviation terminal and not in the airline halls, which saves the queue, and receipts for purchases made on the lake are worth keeping for the way back into Britain. Before the return flight the General Aviation Report is filed no earlier than 48 hours and no later than 2 hours before departure.

What a private client does on the lake

Lausanne is compact, and most programmes are built from the same few pieces, all within about an hour and a quarter of the city.

  • The Olympic city. The Olympic Museum stands in a sculpture park on the shore at Ouchy and holds more than 10,000 objects. The International Olympic Committee has its headquarters at Vidy, just to the west, and about 55 international sports associations are based in the city, so delegations and federation meetings are a steady part of our Lausanne work;
  • The palace hotels. The Beau-Rivage Palace at Ouchy has 168 rooms and saw the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne and, much later, the Iran nuclear framework talks. The Lausanne Palace in the centre has 106 rooms and was the home of three IOC presidents. Along the shore, the Montreux Palace has 236 rooms;
  • EPFL. The federal polytechnic lies on the lakeshore at Écublens, west of the centre, with about 14,000 students, the Rolex Learning Center and the SwissTech Convention Center. It brings research visitors and congress delegates, and the M1 metro serves the campus;
  • Lavaux. UNESCO lists the vineyard terraces east of the city as a World Heritage site. They run for about 30 km along the lake and grow mostly Chasselas, and a regional train covers the five minutes to Lutry and the 22 to Saint-Saphorin, so nobody needs to drive;
  • Vevey and Montreux. Vevey is the home of Nestlé and the Alimentarium, and Charlie Chaplin lived above the town for the last quarter century of his life. His manor at Corsier-sur-Vevey is now Chaplin's World, with the house, a studio set and 30 wax figures. Montreux, 28 km from Lausanne, has the jazz festival;
  • Gruyères and the French shore. The medieval hill town of Gruyères, with its castle, its cheese and the Giger museum, is under an hour from Lausanne, and the CGN boat from Ouchy reaches Évian-les-Bains in about 35 minutes;
  • The ski villages. Villars, Gryon and Les Diablerets share a ski area of about 112 km of slopes, Les Diablerets climbs to the Glacier 3000 at the Scex Rouge, and Verbier, at 1,500 m in the 4 Vallées, lies about an hour and a quarter from the city.

From the apron to the lakefront

Lausanne climbs from the water at Ouchy to the cathedral and the old town some 150 metres higher, and the vineyards, the museums and the ski villages all start from there. A private client therefore thinks in road times from the city, and these are the ones we plan with.

Flying to Lausanne with a dog or a cat

Lausanne is the easy Swiss case for a pet, because the airport we use is one that the Swiss veterinary office names for animals arriving by air. The animal travels beside you in the cabin and not in a hold, and an hour and twenty minutes is short enough for most to settle quickly. The paperwork is where trips go wrong, and Switzerland, being outside the EU, keeps its own list.

private flight with animals

What Switzerland asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination and never after it;
  • A valid rabies vaccination: the first dose from 12 weeks of age, recognised 21 days after it is given;
  • An EU or Swiss pet passport if the animal holds one, and otherwise an official veterinary certificate from the country of departure. Which document Switzerland accepts for a British animal is something we confirm in writing;
  • A compulsory pet check at the red exit of customs, where an animal with incomplete papers can be turned back;
  • An approved entry point. The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office names Basel, Geneva and Zurich for animals brought in by air with their owner, so Geneva fits the plan, while Blécherette is not on that list;
  • On the way home a dog needs a tapeworm treatment given by a vet 24 to 120 hours before it lands in Britain, entered with product, date and time. Cats do not. The animal travels with a pet travel document and a declaration, and one traveller may bring up to five animals.

What catches owners out on the Lausanne run

– The landing airfield. A dog on a jet to Blécherette would land at a field that is not an approved entry point, so the animal enters through Geneva and the car covers the rest. The entry point is agreed in writing before we quote;

– The treatment window. It has to be booked with a vet in Lausanne or on the Riviera for the second half of the trip, 24 to 120 hours before the flight home, and a departure that slips by a day can push it out of range;

– The order of chip and vaccine. A vaccination given before the microchip does not count, so we read the documents line by line before the aircraft is booked.

Cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are covered in our flying with pets guide. An animal that reaches Britain without meeting the rules can be held in quarantine for up to four months, so we confirm the paperwork for both directions before the flight.

The Lausanne calendar: skiing, jazz, athletics and the grape harvest

The city has no single season. The lake is busiest from May to September, the Vaud ski resorts fill from December, and three headline events decide which weeks are hard to book. Choosing the week matters more than choosing the aircraft.

Late November to December
The Christmas markets of Bô Noël in the city run from late November to the end of December. They lead straight into the Christmas, New Year and February half-term weeks, which are the tightest of the ski winter in Villars, Les Diablerets and Verbier
May and June
The Lavaux cellars open their doors, the vines are green and the terraces can be walked without the summer heat. A good moment for a first visit
Early July
The Montreux Jazz Festival fills the shore for about two weeks, 28 km from Lausanne, with more than 200,000 visitors. Hotels along the water, the Montreux Palace among them, are the first constraint and cars the next
Late July
The Paléo Festival in Nyon, six days on the lake between Geneva and Lausanne. A very different crowd from the jazz fortnight, and a town that suits a Geneva arrival well
July or August
Athletissima, the Diamond League athletics meeting at the Pontaise stadium. Its date has moved between early July and late August with the international calendar, so we check the fixture list before suggesting a week
Mid-September to October
The grape harvest in Lavaux, when the terraces turn gold. The best weeks of the vineyard year, and a good time to see the terraces from the train

Why the jazz fortnight costs more

The flying is rarely the problem, because the sector is short and Geneva has a large business aviation fleet. What gets tight is the shoreline between Lausanne and Montreux: hotel rooms, cars with drivers, and the hours in which a departure from the Geneva terminal fits the evening. A booking made a fortnight before the festival can be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from elsewhere. The same booking made six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper, and in the weeks between events a Lausanne charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Lausanne price down

  • Shift the dates by a day or two if you can. Midweek costs less than a Friday to Sunday, and the weeks outside the jazz fortnight and the Christmas period are calmer;
  • Ask where the aircraft sleeps. A jet already parked at Geneva, Sion or Milan needs less positioning than one flying out from Britain, and on a sector this short the empty flight is a real part of the bill;
  • Compare the gateways honestly. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill the sector to Geneva is the baseline, Bern is priced about £100 higher, Zurich about £200 higher and Sion about £400 higher. Geneva is both the shortest flight and the shortest road to Lausanne, so it nearly always wins.

Types of flights

Lausanne produces a different mix from the ski valleys and the hub cities, because it is a university and Olympic city on a lake, with the mountains an hour behind it.

  • Short stays in the city: the Olympic Museum, the IOC and the international sports federations, whose headquarters are concentrated here, and the lakeside hotels;
  • Business trips to EPFL, the SwissTech Convention Center and the companies of Vaud, in a light jet to Geneva and a car for the last 40 minutes;
  • Wine and lake weekends: Lavaux, Vevey, Montreux and a boat to Évian-les-Bains from Ouchy;
  • Ski weeks in Villars, Les Diablerets and Verbier, flown to Geneva with the ski luggage;
  • Family and group trips, with children, grandparents and a dog on board;
  • Event weekends: Montreux Jazz in July, Paléo in Nyon and Athletissima in the summer.

A same-day return works well here. With the Geneva terminals listing 06:00 to 22:00, a morning departure from Britain, a lunch or a meeting in Lausanne and a late-afternoon departure all fit inside the day, with the aircraft held at the apron. You pay for the waiting time, yet the total usually stays below two separate one-way charters, and we price both versions so you can compare.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Geneva sees plenty of business aviation traffic, which feeds them, and it helps to know where the Lausanne ones begin.

Where Lausanne empty legs come from

– Ski weekends. A party flies out on the Friday and the aircraft comes home empty on the Sunday, or the reverse, and with the Geneva terminals on set hours the legs on offer are mostly daytime departures;

– Festival and congress weeks. Guests for the jazz fortnight, the athletics meeting or a convention at EPFL come in on charters from across Europe, and the aircraft that leaves empty a day later can be offered;

– The Alpine rotation. Operators moving aircraft between Geneva, Sion, Samedan, Milan and Nice put short legs on the market, and those short hops can be cheap.

Flexibility is what pays: a client who offers a three-day window finds a match far more often than one who needs a particular evening. The trade-off is that the operator controls the date and the hour, and a leg disappears if the original booking changes. Free legs are listed on our empty legs page, and when one touches Geneva we tell you as soon as the operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

Around Lausanne a helicopter is a tool for the last stretch. For most guests the motorway does the job, and a helicopter earns its fee only where the road is slow or absent: the lakeshore in a Friday queue, a chalet above Villars, the far side of the water. Blécherette is itself a helicopter base, since Heli-Lausanne flies from the field and Rega keeps a rescue base there.

Scenic and day-trip flights from Blécherette
Heli-Lausanne offers scenic and gastronomic flights over the lake and the Alps, and ski day trips to the well-known resorts

Before you plan around a helicopter

– Landing sites are not unlimited. A helicopter set down away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the owner's consent, so a lawn, a terrace or a mountain pad is checked before the quote is written;

– Weather decides. Low cloud over the lake can ground a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so any mountain transfer carries a road alternative in the same plan;

– Mind the hours at Blécherette. The field lists 08:00 to 20:00, so a late arrival there is planned to the clock. Booking the helicopter together with the jet keeps both crews on one timetable.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for Alpine work, the wider H130 for chalet and lake transfers, the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet.

Lausanne charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

OLYMPIC CITY · A SHORT MEETING

Four delegates, a museum visit and a late lunch

Biggin Hill - Geneva, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 20 min · 4 pax

They landed at Geneva before half past nine, drove the motorway to Ouchy and reached the Olympic Museum before lunch. The return left in the early evening, well inside the terminal's day, and a light jet was enough for four people.

LAVAUX · A WINE WEEKEND

Six friends, three cellars and a boat

Farnborough - Geneva, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 15 min · 6 pax

They wanted the terraces in September, so the weekend was booked six weeks ahead. A minibus took them to Cully and Epesses, and on the Sunday they crossed to Évian-les-Bains by lake boat with passports in their pockets before driving back to Geneva for the flight home.

JAZZ FORTNIGHT · MONTREUX

Eight guests and a hotel on the quay

London Luton - Geneva, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 20 min · 8 pax

The week of the festival meant rooms first and the aircraft second. Rooms were secured first, two cars were booked for the shore road, and the jet came up from Geneva rather than out of Britain, which kept the price down.

SKI · VILLARS AND LES DIABLERETS

Five adults with boot bags and a car at the steps

Birmingham - Geneva, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 30 min · 5 pax

Luggage, not seats, chose the aircraft. A midsize was quoted next to the light jet so the client could see both figures, and the dates were fixed a month before half-term.

A DOG ON BOARD · THE LAKESHORE

Four adults and a spaniel in late spring

Southampton - Geneva, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 20 min · 4 pax + dog

Geneva was agreed in writing as the entry point before the aircraft was booked, and a Lausanne vet gave the tapeworm treatment inside the 24 to 120 hour window. The hotel welcomed the dog, and the flight home left in the afternoon.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING EAST TO WEST

A jet already going your way

Geneva - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 20 min · 3 pax

The jet had delivered a weekend party and was heading home with empty seats. The client offered a three-day window rather than a fixed date, and paid far less than a fresh one-way charter for the Sunday evening run back to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Lausanne

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Lausanne?

A light jet needs 1 hour 20 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City to Geneva, and a Phenom 1 hour 15 minutes from Farnborough, over roughly 404 to 440 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 1 hour 30 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 1 hour 55 minutes. The drive from Geneva airport to Lausanne adds about 40 minutes, and Switzerland is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands around half past nine local time.

2How much does a private jet to Lausanne cost?

From about £6,400 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill into Geneva, and £6,500 from London City. Farnborough and Luton in a Phenom run £6,700 to £6,900, a midsize cabin costs £8,300 to £9,400 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £15,400 to £15,750. The transfer to Lausanne is arranged separately, and the Christmas weeks, the February half-term and the jazz fortnight in July can price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Lausanne?

Geneva (GVA / LSGG), about 62 km and 40 minutes from the city by road. It has a 3,900 m runway, three named business aviation operators, and customs and immigration in the business terminal. All general and business aviation flights need prior permission requested through the handler. The airfield in Lausanne itself is for light aircraft and helicopters, and Sion or Bern are options only when the programme goes to the Valais or the capital.

4Can a private jet land at Lausanne-Blécherette?

Only a small one. The single runway is about 875 m at 622 m above sea level, and broker listings name turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12 and very light jets such as the Cessna Citation Mustang as the usual users. The airfield lists operating hours of 08:00 to 20:00. A light, midsize or larger jet lands at Geneva, and we confirm the type, the field and the handler in the quote.

5Do I need a visa or a permit for a private flight to Lausanne?

Switzerland is in Schengen and Britain is outside it, so passport control and customs happen on arrival. A British passport holder does not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180, and the passport must be under ten years old with three months of validity left after departure. The operator needs Swiss approval as well: single permits for up to three flights in three months, requested at least 72 hours ahead, or an operating permit filed 30 days ahead for four or more. The aircraft paperwork covers it.

6Can I take my dog to Lausanne on a private jet?

Yes, in the cabin beside you. Switzerland wants a microchip implanted before the rabies vaccination, a vaccination first given at 12 weeks or older, and an official veterinary certificate from Britain unless the dog has an EU or Swiss pet passport. The pet check is made at customs, and the Swiss veterinary office lists Basel, Geneva and Zurich as entry points for animals arriving by air, which makes Geneva the airport for the job. On the way home a dog needs a vet-given tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing in Britain. Cats do not.
