Private jet charter in Avignon
Provence starts about an hour and a half from the London fields, and the first decision is whether to land at Avignon's own small airport or in the bigger fields at Marseille and Nîmes. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that choice. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Avignon-Provence sits 8 km from the old city, has a 1,880 m runway, a business aviation terminal with customs on prior request and no instrument landing system, which is why we always price Marseille alongside it. The real decisions are the airport, the cabin size and whether the week you want coincides with the theatre festival.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Avignon depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Avignon?
1 hour 35 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, 2 hours 10 minutes from Edinburgh, and one hour of clock difference to allow for on arrival, because France keeps Central European time. At 507 to 834 nautical miles from the British fields we use, Avignon is a comfortable light-jet sector from the south of England and a job for a bigger cabin from Scotland. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you are on the ground at Avignon-Provence at about twenty to ten local time. The airport is 8 km south-east of the old city, typically a quarter of an hour by car, and the business aviation terminal is separate from the airline building and a car can drive to the aircraft, so there is no queue to join. A client who sets out from a central London office can be at a lunch table under the plane trees of a Luberon village before one o'clock, which a scheduled journey with a change on the way rarely allows.
Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route
– Up to four people with ordinary bags, take a light jet. An hour and a half in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is no hardship, and the difference against a midsize cabin pays for the villa car and a good dinner;
– Past four, or with golf clubs, bicycles for Mont Ventoux and a case of Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the way home, we quote a midsize alongside so that you see both figures. A bicycle bag is bulkier than it looks, so tell us how many when you ask;
– A large jet earns its place when the party is big or the aircraft stays with you through several stops. The runway is 1,880 m and the instrument approach is not an ILS, so we check performance and the weather alternate for any large cabin before quoting, and a very heavy long-range aircraft is normally better placed at Marseille.

Onward from Avignon: when the aircraft wins and when the car does
Marseille airport is only 33 nautical miles away on the chart and about an hour by road, and Nîmes is 24, so nobody charters a flight for those: you land at whichever field suits the programme and drive. The onward flights worth paying for are the ones with a long road. Nice is 105 nautical miles, about 35 minutes in a CJ3+ against a long motorway day, and Lyon at 114 is about 40 minutes. Barcelona and Paris are an hour or so in a midsize jet. France, Spain and Italy all sit inside the Schengen area, so the first landing carries the formalities and the hops after it are free of passport control. One legal point deserves a warning: a British-registered aircraft cannot simply carry passengers between two French airports, so a French domestic hop such as Nice or Lyon is arranged with an EU operator or approved case by case, and we choose the operator accordingly.
Before you accept a Provence onward quote
– Who flies the leg. A flight between Britain and France is the ordinary case for a British operator, while a French domestic leg or a hop between France and Spain can need an EU operator or prior approval from the French authorities, and that is checked before the quote is written, not after it;
– Whether the legs are one booking. Avignon to Nice to Paris over three days costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of returning to base between stops.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Avignon:
Light jets, the usual choice for four or five people
At an hour and a half this is a comfortable sector for a small party with ordinary luggage. Nothing here lacks the range, and the 1,880 m runway suits this class well, so the money is better spent on the villa and the table than on a bigger cabin you will not fill.
Midsize, for bicycles, golf clubs and a case of wine
The hold fills faster than the seats on the Provence run: road bikes for the Ventoux climb, clubs in spring and autumn, and whatever came home from the markets and the cellars in between.
Super-midsize and large
For a team that wants to work in the air, a group travelling as one party, or a trip that carries on from Provence to the Riviera or Barcelona. The apron lists stands up to code C, so a large cabin has room to park, but we check the performance on a 1,880 m runway before any large aircraft is quoted.
Turboprops
The right aircraft for the hops inside the region: Marseille and Montpellier are about half an hour in the air or less, and the saving over a jet on those distances is large.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a hilltop village in the Luberon, a loop over the lavender, or a short hop to a hotel with its own landing site. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Avignon is a regional field without a large based fleet, so a quote may name Lyon, Marseille, Nice or Paris as the positioning point for the aircraft. That is normal for an airport of this size, and it is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Avignon
Four airports are worth discussing for a trip to Avignon and the Luberon. Which one is right depends on where the programme is and on the aircraft, because the field at Avignon is small and the others are not.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Avignon-Provence (Caumont) AVN / LFMV |
The answer for most trips, 8 km south-east of the old city. Runway 17/35 is 1,880 m by 45 m, with declared landing distances of 1,680 m on runway 17 and 1,560 m on runway 35. There is no ILS: the approaches are an NDB and RNP procedures to runway 17, which makes low cloud and mistral days a question for the weather alternate. The business aviation terminal is a Skyvalet Connect FBO with a lounge, a crew lounge, customs and immigration on prior request, parking with direct access to the aircraft and helicopter transfers, and Jet A1 is delivered by a 20 cubic metre truck. Handling is mandatory above 3.5 tonnes. Choose it for Avignon, the Luberon, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Pont du Gard, with a light, midsize or super-midsize jet |
| Marseille Provence MRS / LFML |
The big-airport alternative, roughly an hour by road. Runway 13L/31R is 3,500 m and 13R/31L is 2,370 m, 13L has a Category II-III approach, and the airport is open round the clock with customs and police, handling and fuel all listed as H24. Jetex runs the FBO in the general aviation terminal, open 24 hours, with a lounge, meeting rooms, concierge and customs support. Choose it for a heavy long-range jet, for an arrival or departure outside Avignon's hours, for low-visibility weather, or when the programme is in Aix, Marseille or the Alpilles |
| Nîmes-Arles-Camargue FNI / LFTW |
The western alternative, 9 km south-south-east of Nîmes and about 50 km from Avignon by road. The single runway 18/36 is 2,443 m by 45 m and the airport shares its site with civil protection and army users. Jetex has an FBO with a lounge and customs and immigration support. The published aerodrome hours are short and customs works on notice periods that depend on the time of day, so a late arrival needs an extension request. Choose it for Arles, the Camargue, Uzès and the Pont du Gard side of the region |
| Montpellier Méditerranée MPL / LFMT |
The Languedoc alternative, 7 km east-south-east of Montpellier and about 95 km and an hour and a quarter from Avignon by road. The main runway 12L/30R is 2,600 m by 50 m. Choose it for the Camargue coast, Sète and the vineyards of the Languedoc, and only when the programme leans clearly to that side, because the drive is the longest of the four |
Four things to settle before an Avignon landing:
The terminal and its services
Avignon has a business aviation terminal certified to the IS-BAH standard, run as a Skyvalet Connect FBO. It offers an executive lounge, crew lounge and crew accommodation arrangements, security, parking and a limousine service with direct access to the aircraft, catering, and helicopter transfers and short links to the Riviera. Handling is compulsory for an aircraft above 3.5 tonnes, and the handler works to the flight plan, so we order cars and catering through it and adjust when the flight changes.
Hours, parking and permits
The French aeronautical information gives its hours in UTC, and prints a single set of hours an hour earlier for the summer where it does not give separate summer figures, so we convert them to local time. Air traffic services run on weekdays from 07:00 to 21:30 local in summer and 07:00 to 21:00 in winter, on Saturdays from 07:00 to 21:00 in summer and 07:00 to 19:00 in winter, and on Sundays from 08:00 to 21:30 in summer and 08:00 to 21:00 in winter. The terminal quotes its own winter hours as 07:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, 07:00 to 19:00 on Saturdays and 08:00 to 21:00 on Sundays. The French page lists no slot coordination for Avignon, but the apron is small, some of the code C jet stands need a marshaller, and hangar space is arranged on request. A British operator running a charter also needs the French permission that fits the flight, which it files and we track.
Border and passport
France is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear the border at the airport. The French page lists customs and immigration from 08:00 to 20:00 local time all year, with 24 hours of prior notice. For a non-Schengen flight with a handler above 3.5 tonnes the request goes through an online handling portal, which we file with the flight plan. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport less than ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked to register a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system.
Car and the countryside
Give us the terminal as well as the flight, so the driver waits where you come out. The airport is about 8 km from the old city, the Luberon villages are 55 to 65 minutes away and Marseille airport roughly an hour, so the car is part of the plan. A late return needs care, because the airport closes in the evening, so ask for the last hour the handler can support and do not plan a late dinner in the hills before it.

Border, passport and the road to the Luberon
The first landing in the Schengen area is where the formalities happen. At Avignon they depend on notice: the French information lists customs and police with 24 hours of prior notice, so we send the details with the flight plan and confirm the clearance time with the terminal. Marseille works the other way, with customs and police listed round the clock, which is one reason an early or late arrival goes there. After clearance, travel inside France and onward in Schengen is free of passport control in the ordinary course, although a temporary border control can be introduced at short notice, so carry the passports. For the return, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure.

From the apron to Provence
Avignon is a walled city that was the seat of the papacy in the fourteenth century, when seven popes lived here and built the Palais des Papes, now part of a UNESCO World Heritage site together with the old centre. The Pont Saint-Bénézet, the Pont d'Avignon of the song, ends in the middle of the Rhône with only four of its piers left. Around it lie the Luberon, the vineyards of the southern Rhône and a ring of Roman towns, and almost all of them are an hour's drive from the apron or less. The times below are from the centre of Avignon.
8 km, with the Palais des Papes and the Pont Saint-Bénézet at the end of the drivetypically 15 to 20 minutes
about 16 km north, the village and vineyards of the papal wineabout 25 minutes
about 25 km west, the first-century Roman aqueduct, which can be visited in the eveningabout 35 minutes
the Roman theatre and the town of the Chorégies opera season, up the Rhôneabout 35 minutes
about 39 km south-west, the arena, Van Gogh and the photography festivalabout 45 minutes
the rock village in the Alpilles with the Carrières de Lumièresabout 45 minutes
the hilltop Luberon village, close to the Sénanque abbey and its lavenderabout 55 minutes
about 55 km east, the ochre village at the heart of the Luberonabout 65 minutes
Mont Ventoux, at 1,910 m the highest summit in Provence, rises about an hour east of the city, near Sault, and Lourmarin, on the south side of the Luberon, is another of the villages that guests ask for first. Further south the Alpilles and the Camargue are close enough for an afternoon. For lunch, the Michelin guide has starred tables in Avignon itself, with La Mirande and Pollen among them, in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and in the villages of the Luberon, and the stars are reviewed every year, so we check the latest list before we book a table for you.
Flying to Avignon with a dog or a cat
For a pet the paperwork is the part of a Provence trip that needs planning, and the flight is the easy bit: the animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold, and on a sector of an hour and a half most simply sleep. The date on the health certificate is the detail that goes wrong, because the certificate is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU.

What an EU country such as France asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:
- An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before the animal travels;
- An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
- No more than five animals per traveller, presented at a travellers' point of entry, which we confirm in writing for the airport;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Avignon run
– France does not ask for tapeworm treatment on the way in, only Britain asks for it on the way home, so it is a vet appointment you book in Avignon or in your Luberon village towards the end of the stay. Count back from the departure time, because the window is 24 to 120 hours and a flight that moves by a day can move the window out of reach;
– The order of the chip and the vaccine matters. A vaccination given before the microchip does not count, and an animal that arrives without the right paperwork can be refused entry, so the certificate is checked line by line before the flight, not at the terminal;
– A villa week in the Luberon with a dog is an ordinary booking. Settle the house or the hotel before the quote, because each one has to accept the animal separately, and remember that a summer afternoon on the Provence apron can be very hot, so the dog stays in the cool of the terminal until the aircraft is ready.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Avignon calendar: truffles in winter, theatre and lavender in summer
Avignon works in two halves. The winter belongs to the truffle markets and the restaurants, the summer to the theatre, the lavender and the villa parties. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why a festival week costs more
The aircraft are rarely the problem. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Avignon is within reach of it. What gets tight is the airport itself, a small apron that closes in the evening, together with the good hotel rooms and cars in town, which peak at the same time. A booking made two weeks before the festival opens can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Lyon, Marseille or Paris, and that costs more. The same booking made four or five weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks a charter to Avignon can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Avignon price down
- Move the dates by a few days where you can. The days after the festival closes and the quiet weeks in spring and autumn are calmer than the lavender weekends;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Lyon, Marseille or Paris takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a meaningful part of the bill;
- Look at the other airports, but do not expect a saving. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill, the sector to Nîmes is priced the same as the one to Avignon, and Marseille is about £400 higher, so the choice should follow the programme and the weather, not the price.
Types of flights
Avignon produces a different mix from the Alpine or the Italian destinations we cover, because it is a cultural and gastronomic centre with a countryside of villas and vineyards around it and a small business trade of its own.
- Festival and culture weekends, from the Festival d'Avignon and the Orange opera in summer to the photography exhibitions in Arles;
- Wine and truffle trips, with Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the vineyard season and Richerenches on a winter Saturday;
- Villa holidays in the Luberon for families, concentrated in the lavender weeks and the summer, typically from the south of England;
- Cycling and walking parties for Mont Ventoux, with bike bags in the hold and the Bédoin climb of about 22 km at an average gradient of about 7.4 per cent as the target;
- Gastronomy weekends built around the Michelin tables of the Vaucluse, often with a night in a hilltop hotel;
- Business trips and incentive groups, a morning in town and a lunch in the vines, plus onward hops to Nice, Lyon or Paris.
The day trip is the one to look at closely. Land at about twenty to ten, leave in the late afternoon local time and you are back on the British side in the early evening, with seven or eight hours on the ground in between. The return must also leave before the airport closes, which in winter is 21:00 local on weekdays and Sundays and 19:00 on Saturdays. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote it both ways, so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Avignon has no single event that creates them every year, so they come from the weekly rhythm of a leisure region, and it helps to know what produces them.
Where Avignon empty legs come from
– Summer weekends. Aircraft that bring a family on the Friday and leave empty on the Sunday, or that arrive empty to collect a party on the Sunday, put a leg on the market towards Britain or Paris;
– Festival and lavender weeks. The festival weeks in July produce one-way arrivals followed by a repositioning flight home, and an outbound leg on the Monday morning is the one most often offered;
– Riviera and Marseille loops. Operators moving aircraft between Nice, Marseille, Lyon and Avignon put short hops on the market, and those hops can be cheap.
Because the corridor to Provence is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag an Avignon match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In Provence a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and not the middle. The roads are good and the distances short, and the places where rotary flight changes the journey are the hilltop villages, the lavender plateaus and the link with a jet that lands somewhere else. A helicopter operator, Easy Helico, is based at Avignon airport and offers panoramic flights over the Alpilles, the lavender of the Luberon, the Pont du Gard, Mont Ventoux and the city of the popes, and the airport has marked helicopter stands. The charter platforms that publish Gordes routes name Avignon, a hotel landing site at Gargas, Carpentras and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence as the nearby places to land.
the lavender fields, the Sénanque abbey and the hilltop villages, seen from the airtypically 30 minutes
33 nm in a straight line, against about an hour on the road, for a party that has to make a connectionabout 25 minutes
105 nm in a straight line, for a party that wants to be on the Riviera for dinnerabout 65 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent, so we check the status of a villa lawn or a hotel terrace before the quote is written, not after it;
– Weather sets the schedule. The mistral, the cold wind that comes down the Rhône valley, can be strong enough to stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;
– A summer weekend is busy. The Luberon villages and the lavender plateaus draw many aircraft in July, so book the helicopter together with the jet, with the landing site named at the start.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for scenic and mountain work, the wider H130 for villa transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Avignon charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK
A morning meeting in the vines and home for dinner
Biggin Hill - Avignon and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 35 min each way · 4 pax
Wheels up at seven, on the ground at about twenty to ten local time, in the meeting by eleven and back at Biggin Hill in the evening. The aircraft and crew waited at the business aviation terminal rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and still comes in below two separate one-way charters. The departure had to be timed ahead of the airport's closing hour, and it was.
FESTIVAL WEEKEND · THE AIRPORT WENT TO THE PROGRAMME
A party for the theatre, with a free Sunday
Farnborough - Avignon, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 30 min · 6 pax
They had asked for a Thursday arrival in the second week of the festival, with an evening in the Palais des Papes courtyard. We asked about the return before anything else, because the airport closes in the evening and customs works on notice, and moved the departure to the Sunday afternoon. Cars were waiting at the terminal and the hotel had been booked weeks before.
LAVENDER WEEK · A DOG ON BOARD
Four adults and a labrador for a July week in the Luberon
Southampton - Avignon, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 35 min · 4 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment near the villa for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the villa took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in a single exchange of messages rather than three.
WINTER GASTRONOMY · TRUFFLES AND A STARRED TABLE
A Saturday at Richerenches and dinner in Avignon
Birmingham - Avignon, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 45 min · 6 pax
Six friends arrived on a Friday evening, spent Saturday morning at the truffle market in the north of the Vaucluse, lunched on the omelette and dined at a starred table in town. The jet waited two nights because the programme was fixed and the empty positioning in both directions would have cost more than the wait.
AN OPEN JAW · ONE AIRPORT IN, ANOTHER OUT
Provence by road from Avignon to Nîmes
London Luton - Avignon, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 35 min · 8 pax
Eight people landed at Avignon, spent four days between the Luberon, Arles and the Pont du Gard, and drove to Nîmes to fly home from there. Both legs were priced as one booking, so the aircraft was positioned once, and the open-jaw routing saved a long day of driving back to the first airport.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY AFTERNOON NORTH
A jet already going your way
Avignon - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 35 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday afternoon departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Avignon
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Avignon?
About 1 hour 35 minutes from London City and Biggin Hill in a light jet, and the same from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 507 to 544 nautical miles. From Bristol, Birmingham or Manchester allow about 1 hour 40 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 2 hours 10 minutes. France is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands at about twenty to ten local time.
2How much does a private jet to Avignon cost?
From about £7,600 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, £7,700 from London City, and £7,800 to £8,100 in a Phenom from Farnborough or Luton. A midsize cabin runs £9,550 to £10,850 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow about £17,400. The weeks of the Avignon theatre festival and the lavender weekends can price above these figures.
3Which airport should a private jet use, Avignon or Marseille?
Avignon-Provence (AVN / LFMV) for most trips. It is 8 km from the old city, has a 1,880 m runway and a business aviation terminal with customs on 24 hours of prior notice, but no ILS and evening closing hours. Marseille Provence (MRS / LFML) is roughly an hour away by road, has 3,500 m and 2,370 m runways and is open round the clock, so it suits a heavy long-range jet, a very late or early flight, or poor weather. Nîmes and Montpellier suit programmes on the western side of the region.
4Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Avignon?
Britain is outside Schengen and France is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival, through the business aviation terminal at the airport, where customs and immigration are listed from 08:00 to 20:00 local time all year, with 24 hours of prior notice. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport less than ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. The operator and our team handle the aircraft paperwork, including the French permission where it applies.
5Can I fly on from Avignon to Nice, Lyon or Barcelona?
Yes. Nice is 105 nautical miles from Avignon and about 35 minutes in a light jet, Lyon is 114 nautical miles and Barcelona 208, each well under an hour. Marseille is only about an hour by road, so you land at one airport and drive. A French domestic hop is usually flown by an EU operator or approved case by case, so we choose the aircraft for the leg, and a helicopter can cover the last stretch if the landing site is agreed first.
6Can I take my dog to Avignon on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and an EU country such as France asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used. France does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, but a dog needs one from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
