Private jet charter in Jamaica
Jamaica lies about 4,258 nautical miles west of London, a distance that takes it out of the light-jet class altogether and makes the first question of any quote a simple one: one long hop, or two shorter ones with an hour at Santa Maria in the Azores. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Jamaica we also ask where the party will sleep before we name an airport, because the island is long and its coast road is slow: Montego Bay serves the west and the golf and villa coast, Kingston the capital and the Blue Mountains, and a small field near Ocho Rios the north-east of Ian Fleming's Jamaica.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Jamaica depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Challenger 605 to Sangster International Airport at Montego Bay with one technical stop in the Azores, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Jamaica?
Jamaica keeps Eastern Standard Time all year and does not move its clocks, so it is five hours behind London in winter and six in summer. Only the largest cabins cross the Atlantic to the island without stopping. A Challenger 605 or a Legacy 650, the practical choice for a family or a small group, lands once on the way, and Santa Maria in the Azores sits almost on the line from London. From Biggin Hill the two legs to Montego Bay measure 1,429 and 3,090 nautical miles, which is 261 more than the direct 4,258, so the stop costs an hour on the ground and very little fuel. The second leg is the long one, so the crew checks the payload and the winds before they commit to it. The times below are westbound and gate to gate, and they leave out the stop:
4,519 nautical miles from Biggin Hill in two legs, with about an hour on the ground at Santa Mariaabout 11 h plus the stop
4,258 nautical miles from Biggin Hill, a three-engined heavy jet with the range for one hopabout 10 h 25 min
4,227 nautical miles from Farnborough at normal long-range cruiseabout 9 h 25 min
4,258 nautical miles from Biggin Hill in the fastest cabin on the listabout 9 h 15 min
4,037 nautical miles, the shortest crossing in the price table belowabout 9 h 50 min
4,227 nautical miles with the jet stream behind the aircraftabout 8 h
The clock helps on the way out and hurts on the way home
A Global 6000 that pushes back at Farnborough at ten in the morning in winter touches down at Montego Bay at about 14:25 by the local clock, so the passengers still have the afternoon, even though their bodies think it is evening. Nobody loses a day outbound.
The return is the short half. The same jet needs about 9 h 25 min westbound and about 8 h eastbound, which means an overnight flight from Jamaica puts you in Britain in the morning with a long night behind you, and a client with a Monday meeting should plan the Sunday departure accordingly.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Three things worth knowing about these figures
– On this route the stop is a real saving. A Challenger 605 from Biggin Hill with the Azores hour starts at £90,400, a Legacy 650 on the same plan at £95,600, a Falcon 900LX without a stop at £105,950 and a Gulfstream G650ER at £136,550. The gap buys time and a quieter cabin. For a party of four on a fortnight's holiday the hour in the Azores is easy to accept, whereas for a long weekend the extra money for a non-stop jet usually earns itself back;
– The airport you land at moves the figure by one or two per cent, never by a class. The same Challenger 605 plan to Kingston comes to £89,700, to Ocho Rios to £89,600, and to the Negril strip to £90,950. Montego Bay costs a little more than the other two because it lies further west;
– A one-way price carries the aircraft's journey home. The jet has to recross the ocean with or without you, so a single outbound flight is priced close to half of a return and is not a bargain. A return booking, or an empty leg timed to your dates, changes the arithmetic more than any negotiation. A Global 6000 from Farnborough is £114,900. Air Passenger Duty is charged per passenger on a departure from a British airport, by distance band, and we show it as a separate line in the quotation.
Private jet flights within Jamaica and to the neighbouring islands
Jamaica covers 10,991 square kilometres, which looks small on a map, but the mountains in the middle push the roads to the coast and a drive between the main resorts is measured in hours. The sectors people ask for are the hop from Montego Bay to the villas of Negril, the run along the north coast to Ocho Rios, and the flight across the island to Kingston:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Montego Bay - Negril 27 nm / 50 km |
Pilatus PC-12 NGX up to 9 |
about 35 min | from £3,100 |
| Ocho Rios - Kingston 31 nm / 57 km |
Pilatus PC-12 NGX up to 9 |
about 35 min | from £3,100 |
| Montego Bay - Ocho Rios 56 nm / 104 km |
Citation CJ4 Gen2 up to 8 |
about 35 min | from £5,950 |
| Montego Bay - Kingston 76 nm / 141 km |
Citation CJ4 Gen2 up to 8 |
about 40 min | from £5,950 |
| Kingston - Negril 95 nm / 176 km |
Citation CJ4 Gen2 up to 8 |
about 45 min | from £5,950 |
Two things worth knowing about flying inside the island
– A foreign aircraft must first clear customs at an airport of entry. Montego Bay, Kingston and Ian Fleming International are the three, and the smaller fields, Tinson Pen and Negril among them, can be used only after that clearance, with a licensed Jamaican handler completing a coastwise clearance form for the sector. We therefore never plan a domestic hop for a client who has not already landed at one of the three;
– The little fields are for little aircraft. Negril's strip is listed at 671 metres with no fuel and no night flying, and the handler guide reports no services at Negril or at Ken Jones near Port Antonio. A Pilatus PC-12 or a similar turboprop belongs there and a jet does not, and when the party is large or the time matters, a helicopter from the main airport is often the better answer.
The neighbours are a separate matter. Grand Cayman, the Bahamas, the Turks and Caicos and Florida are all one short jet sector away, and Panama City is the usual jump for a party heading to Central America. Each arrival is a new international entry with its own forms and its own rules for British passengers, so we confirm the paperwork for the date before we quote:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Montego Bay - Grand Cayman 209 nm / 387 km |
Citation CJ3+ up to 7 |
about 1 h | from £5,300 |
| Montego Bay - Providenciales 389 nm / 720 km |

| Montego Bay - Miami (Opa-locka) 482 nm / 893 km |

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Jamaica:
Turboprops
Aircraft for the island itself, never for the ocean. A Pilatus PC-12 is the one that can use the short strips at Negril and Tinson Pen, and a King Air 350 carries a larger group between the main airports.
Light jets
They do the short sectors to Grand Cayman, the Bahamas and Florida with four to six people, and a party that arrived on a large jet sometimes keeps one here for the week. None of them crosses the Atlantic, so we do not offer one from Britain.
Super-midsize
Fine for Ian Fleming International, which was built for aircraft up to the size of a Citation Excel, and for the neighbouring islands. For the crossing from Britain the class is too short on range, and we say so rather than quote it.
Heavy jets
The class behind most sensible crossings. The Challenger 605 and the Legacy 650 make one stop, and the second leg to Jamaica is 3,090 nautical miles, so the payload and the winds are checked for the date. Both seat a family with nannies or a golf group in comfort.
Ultra-long range
The class that crosses in a single hop, and the one we propose for a short stay, a large party, or an animal in the cabin. The Falcon 900LX is the cheapest of the group from Britain, while the Global and Gulfstream types are faster and roomier.

Business aviation airports in Jamaica
Only three airports on the island are airports of entry for international flights, and one of them, Montego Bay, takes most of the private jets. The table lists five fields, three with customs and two without:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Sangster International MBJ / MKJS |
North coast, about 5 km east of the centre of Montego Bay, the gateway to the hotel strip, Rose Hall and the west | A single runway, 07/25, of about 3,060 metres (10,039 feet), at an elevation of only a few feet. It is the busiest airport of the island, and private aircraft use a general aviation area apart from the commercial terminal. Signature Aviation runs the FBO, which took over the former IAM Jet Centre: customs and immigration are cleared inside the terminal, and a private road brings cars to the door. The handler lists its own hours as 7:00 to 19:00 local with call-out on request, while the airport customs office is listed round the clock |
| Norman Manley International KIN / MKJP |
Palisadoes peninsula, about 19 km from New Kingston, the gateway to the capital and the Blue Mountains | A single runway, 12/30, of about 2,716 metres (8,911 feet). Norman Manley FBO Services runs the VIP terminal with private lounges and fast-track clearance, and the Club Kingston lounge has a business centre and showers. Customs is listed round the clock, the FBO itself typically 6:00 to 22:00 on weekdays, so a late arrival is agreed in advance. Fuel is best ordered 48 hours ahead, and the drive to New Kingston takes 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic |
| Ian Fleming International OCJ / MKBS |
Boscobel on the north-east coast, east of Ocho Rios, the gateway to GoldenEye and the Oracabessa coast | A single runway, 09/27, of about 1,454 metres (4,769 feet), run by the Airports Authority of Jamaica and built for aircraft up to the size of a Citation Excel. Customs, immigration and the airport are listed as open from 7:00 to 19:00 local. There is a fuelling station, a passenger lounge and briefing rooms, and the field is meant for light and midsize jets |
| Tinson Pen Aerodrome KTP / MKTP |
West Kingston, on Marcus Garvey Drive, the city's close-in airfield | A domestic airfield with a runway of 1,311 metres (4,300 feet) and a 100LL fuelling station, so aviation gasoline rather than jet fuel. Handling is limited and needs notice. It is useful for a turboprop that has already cleared at Norman Manley and wants to land near the Kingston Free Zone |
| Negril Aerodrome NEG / MKNG |
West end of the island, about 7 km north of Negril Point | A domestic strip of 671 metres (2,200 feet) with no fuel and no night flying. Handlers list no services here. It suits a small turboprop that has cleared at Montego Bay, and a helicopter is the more realistic alternative for the final hop to the Negril cliffs |
The practical details differ from field to field:
Montego Bay
The handler guide reports that fuel delays are uncommon on the FBO ramp and recommends 48 hours' notice for fuel. Scheduled airliners take precedence over private and charter movements, and the terminal has hangar, office and ramp space for based aircraft. The Half Moon resort lists a drive of about ten minutes from the private terminal.
Kingston
Pilots hand in a pilot clearance certificate on arrival at Norman Manley. Parking is rarely a problem for jets of ordinary size, and the city traffic matters more than the runway, so the car is booked for the hour of landing.
The small fields
Ian Fleming International takes only aircraft of Citation Excel size or smaller. Negril and Ken Jones near Port Antonio are listed with no services at all, and Tinson Pen is limited, so a party that wants any of them must tell us the aircraft type before we propose the sector.
Landing permission
A charter needs a landing permit, applied for by the operator on the non-scheduled journey form. The official lead time is four working days, although the authority can process faster, and the office works on weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00 local. No overflight permit is required. A permit is valid for the same Zulu day, and a change of time or of airport needs a revision.
No slot system, but the winter ramp fills up
The handler guide lists no slots and no prior permission requirement at any Jamaican airport, though the busiest weeks run from the middle of December to the end of April and the apron at Montego Bay can be crowded at Christmas, New Year and the spring break. We confirm the stand in writing. A CARICOM advance passenger information return goes in at least 30 minutes before departure for every flight to, from or within Jamaica. Times on this page are Jamaican local time.
Arriving from Britain: passports, forms and what to carry
Jamaica is outside the Schengen area and the British customs territory. A private flight from London lands as an international arrival at an airport of entry, passengers and crew are cleared there, usually in the private terminal, and the same happens again on departure. The handler collects the passports and takes the baggage through customs.
British citizens do not need a visa to visit Jamaica. Entry is usually granted for up to 90 days, the departure date is stamped in the passport, and an extension is applied for through the Jamaican passport and immigration agency. An overstay can bring a fine or an arrestno visa, usually up to 90 days
the passport must be valid for the whole stay and have two blank pages for the entry and exit stamps; children travel on their own passportsevery passenger
each passenger completes the immigration and customs form, known as C5, and the British government advises filling it in online before arrival where possible; the handler can tell us which version the airport expects on the daybefore arrival
cash or travellers cheques worth 10,000 US dollars or more must be declared on the form, together with a separate cross-border form for the financial investigation authority and proof of where the money comes from and what it is fordeclare if above the limit
meat and dairy products may not be brought in, so the catering ordered at the last stop is planned with that rule in mindleave them aboard or at the last stop
Paperwork for the crew and the cabin
The handler wants the aircraft and crew details in advance, and the guide for operators asks for five general declarations inbound and five outbound, of which one is an original and four may be photocopies. The crew also complete a customs, immigration and quarantine form, and a movement form is filed for each flight. Outbound clearance needs a customs-stamped departure declaration, and an aircraft that comes back after take-off without one can leave the handler with a fine.
A yellow fever certificate is required only for travellers arriving from a country with a risk of transmission, which a direct flight from Britain is not. The journey home is a flight into Britain: a General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation.

From the apron to the villa: which airport for which part of Jamaica
A drive on the island is slower than the map suggests, so the airport that lands you nearest to the bed matters more than a few minutes of flying. The usual pairings are these:
the hotel strip is about ten minutes from the terminal, Rose Hall resorts 15 to 20 minutes, and Half Moon about ten, with the White Witch, Cinnamon Hill and Half Moon golf courses all near the airportSangster (MBJ)
all-villa estates on the coast near Montego Bay, where the villa and its staff matter more than a hotel, reached from the same private terminalSangster (MBJ)
about 80 km from Montego Bay, roughly an hour and a half by road, which is why a helicopter or a turboprop to the Negril strip is often booked for the last stretchSangster (MBJ), then a helicopter
the north-east coast, an hour and three quarters by road from Montego Bay but nearer from the Boscobel field, where a light or midsize jet lands within reach of Ian Fleming's former homeIan Fleming (OCJ), or Sangster for a larger jet
the capital, with the Bob Marley Museum, and the cool hill cottages of Strawberry Hill about 3,100 feet (950 metres) up; from Ocho Rios a modern highway cuts the road to Kingston to a little under an hourNorman Manley (KIN)
Geejam and Trident on the eastern shore, a long road from every airport of entry; the Ken Jones field near Port Antonio has no services listed, so we land at Kingston or Ocho Rios and drive or fly onNorman Manley (KIN) or Ian Fleming (OCJ)
Jamaica: what our clients go for
Villas come first. Tryall Club is an all-villa resort of 87 villas on 2,200 acres with its own golf course and beach, and Round Hill is a former coconut plantation near Montego Bay where the villas are let out by their owners, with a seafront house decorated by Ralph Lauren. A client who rents one arrives with staff and luggage, and the private terminal is a convenience, not a luxury.
Golf is the second reason. Half Moon has a course by Robert Trent Jones Sr, the Rose Hall estate carries the White Witch and Cinnamon Hill courses, and the airport is described as less than 15 minutes from most of them. The third is the Fleming coast: GoldenEye, the former home of the creator of James Bond, lies just outside Oracabessa, and the five-bedroom villa where he lived can be rented alongside beach and lagoon cottages.
Kingston is the fourth, and it appeals to a different kind of traveller. It is the capital, the seat of business and government, and the home of the Bob Marley Museum and Trench Town. Above it the Blue Mountains rise to Blue Mountain Peak at 2,256 metres, and cottages such as Strawberry Hill sit in the misty hills at about 3,100 feet with a view down to the city.
English is the official language and the currency is the Jamaican dollar. Negril, at the western tip, adds long beaches and sea cliffs where hotels such as Rockhouse and The Caves hang above the water.
The year in Jamaica: dry winters, hurricanes and the busy weeks
The island has a dry, breezy winter that doubles as the high season, and a hot, wet summer in which the weather decides the schedule:
the high season, with the lowest rainfall and cooling trade winds; prices and crowds peak, and the handler guide lists the busiest period for business aircraft as 15 December to the end of Aprilpeak
hotter and wetter, with summer school holidays bringing families; hotel prices outside the peak can fall by up to a quarter, and July brings the Reggae Sumfest crowds to Montego Bayshoulder
the humid, stormy end of the year; the Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 31 October and September is the most threatening month, so a flight in those weeks is planned with a weather marginweather risk
Christmas and the hurricane weeks both change the plan
The prices on this page describe an ordinary week, with a Falcon 900LX from Biggin Hill at £105,950 one way. At Christmas, the New Year and the spring break the same aircraft is wanted by every client with a villa on the coast, so a holiday date is booked as soon as the plans are known. In the storm season the opposite applies, and we write a postponement or diversion clause into the charter agreement for a trip that falls in September or October.
The Jamaican calendar: reggae, carnival, jazz and Independence
The dated events are mostly musical, and several fill the hotels of one town at once:

Flying to Jamaica with a dog or a cat
Jamaica admits dogs and cats from Britain, but the process is among the longest we deal with, and for most owners it settles the question of whether the animal comes at all. The rules were written for freight and scheduled airlines, so an animal travelling in the cabin of a private jet needs written permission from the Jamaican veterinary authority before we can confirm the plan.
The one fact to read before you book
Every animal needs an import permit before it leaves. The owner sends a preliminary application with the rabies blood test report and the vet's certificate to the Jamaican permit unit, then applies for the final permit online for a fee of 5,000 Jamaican dollars, and the permit is valid for up to three months. The British side needs an export health certificate completed by an Official Veterinarian. The rabies vaccine must be an inactivated one given at 90 days of age or later, with a booster within 12 months of export, and the animal must be microchipped to the ISO standard before the vaccination.
The blood test sets the calendar. A sample drawn at an approved laboratory must show at least 0.5 IU/ml of rabies antibodies, and the animal may enter only between three and twelve months after that sample. Once it lands, it spends at least 14 days in quarantine at the national facility at Plumb Point, where an official vet decides whether to release it. The animal is examined by a vet within seven days before export and the faecal tests must be clear.
- Three weeks' notice of arrival to the Jamaican authorities, confirmed 48 hours before, and an animal landing notification form sent at least two days ahead;
- Arrival into Kingston unless the Chief Veterinary Officer allows another airport, and prior authorisation for any transit or transhipment, which matters if we plan a stop with the animal aboard;
- No Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa or pit bull terrier, and no hybrid of a dog or cat with another species;
- A written declaration that the animal is not pregnant or suckling, and the microchip number identical on every document.
Coming home is a separate exercise. A dog returning to Great Britain needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet 24 to 120 hours before landing, an animal that does not meet the British rules can be placed in quarantine for up to four months, and for a country outside the British list an animal needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination after the chip, a blood test at least 30 days after the vaccination and a wait of three months from the sample. We check how Britain classes the departure country for the date. For a stay of a week or two, most owners leave the animal at home, because the quarantine on arrival takes up the whole holiday. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight, and the rules for other species and the countries where the timeline runs to months are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, sold at a fraction of the normal price. Jamaica produces them in a regular pattern, because a charter there is almost always one-way and an aircraft that has crossed the Atlantic must either go home or find its next client in the Caribbean or Florida.
Where Jamaican empty legs come from
– The weeks before Christmas, when a jet flies out full with a family and a villa party and returns empty, or flies out empty to collect guests who are heading back;
– The end of April, when the high season closes and aircraft based in the region are moved back to Europe or up to the United States, often at short notice;
– The storm season, when an operator may move an aircraft away from the path of a forecast system and offer the repositioning to anyone who is ready to go.
A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, although the operator owns the date and a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Legs out of the island point to Florida and the American east coast as often as to Britain, so a flexible destination helps. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection follows:

| UK (London Gatwick) - Montego Bay | Gulfstream G550 | 16 seats | £50,800 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft, not per seat. A Falcon 900LX leg of £42,250 with eight aboard comes to about £5,280 a head, and the whole leg costs roughly two-fifths of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector;
– Legs to and from Jamaica are less frequent than those on a busy European corridor and cluster around the start and end of the high season, so an open date helps more than anything else.

Helicopter charter
There is no scheduled helicopter service that we can point to, so rotary flights are arranged to order. The Signature terminal at Montego Bay lists helicopter and light aircraft transfers among the services its concierge team coordinates, and we book the helicopter and the landing sites in advance. The rotary runs people ask for are the ones where the road is slowest, from Montego Bay to the Negril cliffs, along the north coast to Ocho Rios, and across the island to Kingston:
the airport to the West End cliffs, which is about an hour and a half by roadabout 20 min
the length of the north coast, against a road journey of an hour and three quartersabout 35 min
from the north-east coast to the capital, a little under an hour by the highwayabout 25 min
across the island, a flight over the hills in place of a long roadabout 50 min
from the western tip to the capital, the longest hop on the islandabout 1 h
The times are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots, and the operator confirms the route, the weather and the landing sites for your date.
Two points on rotary legs
A landing at a villa, a golf course or a hotel lawn needs the owner's permission before the flight. In the high season helicopter seats go first, and the jet and the helicopter are best booked as a single trip.

Jamaican charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
WINTER · A FAMILY OF SIX
A fortnight in a villa near Montego Bay
Biggin Hill - Montego Bay via the Azores, Challenger 605, about 11 h plus the stop · 6 pax
The aircraft refuelled at Santa Maria for an hour, landed at the Montego Bay private terminal and went home empty. The return was booked as a separate one-way a fortnight later, since nobody wanted an aircraft parked through the Christmas weeks.
GOLF · FOUR FRIENDS
A non-stop crossing for a long weekend
Farnborough - Montego Bay, Global 6000, about 9 h 25 min · 4 pax
The party landed on the Thursday afternoon and played Rose Hall on the Friday morning, with the clubs in the hold. The stand at the terminal was confirmed in writing weeks before.
FLORIDA TO THE NORTH COAST · A COUPLE
A short hop to the Fleming coast
Miami (Opa-locka) - Ian Fleming International, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 40 min · 2 pax
They finished a stay in Florida and chose the Boscobel field over Montego Bay to be on the north-east coast without the long drive.
BUSINESS · THREE EXECUTIVES
Two nights in Kingston
Biggin Hill - Kingston via the Azores, Challenger 605, about 10 h 55 min plus the stop · 3 pax
The group had meetings in the capital, so the aircraft landed at Norman Manley and cleared customs there, avoiding the drive across the island.
A DOG AT HOME · A DECISION
A couple, a spaniel and a month of paperwork
Biggin Hill - Montego Bay, Falcon 900LX non-stop, about 10 h 25 min · 2 pax
They asked about taking the dog and learned that the import permit, the antibody test and 14 days in quarantine at Plumb Point would use up half of a short holiday. The dog stayed with a friend and the couple flew without it.
EMPTY LEG · THE END OF APRIL
A flexible return to Edinburgh
Montego Bay - Edinburgh, Challenger 605 empty leg, about 9 h 20 min plus the stop · 3 pax
The client offered a window of four days instead of a fixed date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £38,550, well under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a Thursday departure.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Jamaica
1How long does it take to fly to Jamaica by private jet?
About 10 hours 25 minutes non-stop from a London airfield to Montego Bay in a Falcon 900LX, and about 11 hours in a Challenger 605 plus about an hour on the ground in the Azores. The way home is shorter with the jet stream behind the aircraft. Jamaica is five hours behind Britain in winter and six in summer.
2How much does a private jet to Jamaica cost?
From about £90,400 one way from Biggin Hill to Montego Bay in a Challenger 605 with a stop in the Azores. A Falcon 900LX non-stop from Biggin Hill is about £105,950, and a Gulfstream G650ER about £136,550. Air Passenger Duty is charged per passenger on a departure from a British airport and is shown as a separate line in the quotation.
3Which airports do private jets use in Jamaica?
Sangster International (MBJ) at Montego Bay for the west and the north coast resorts, Norman Manley International (KIN) for Kingston and the Blue Mountains, and Ian Fleming International (OCJ) near Ocho Rios for light and midsize jets. These are the three airports of entry. Tinson Pen and Negril are domestic fields where a foreign aircraft can land only after it has cleared customs at one of the three.
4What are the passport and entry rules for a private flight from Britain to Jamaica?
British citizens do not need a visa and are usually admitted for up to 90 days. The passport must be valid for the whole stay and have two blank pages. Passengers complete the immigration and customs form, known as C5, and cash of 10,000 US dollars or more must be declared. Meat and dairy products may not be brought in, and a charter needs a landing permit applied for by the operator about four working days ahead.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Jamaica?
It is possible but slow. The animal needs an import permit, a rabies vaccination and an antibody test taken between three and twelve months before entry, an export health certificate from an Official Veterinarian, and at least 14 days of quarantine at Plumb Point after arrival. Some breeds are banned. Coming home, a dog also needs a tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain.
6When is the best time to fly to Jamaica, and how early should I book?
The high season runs from the middle of December to the middle of April, with the least rain, and business aircraft traffic is busiest until the end of April. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 31 October and September is the most threatening month. Book as early as the dates are known for Christmas, the New Year and the spring break, and for Reggae Sumfest in July.
