Private jet charter in Edinburgh
From the London fields to Edinburgh is about an hour in a light jet, and the hour is rarely what decides the booking. The reason for going does that: the August festivals, when rooms are hard to find, a round at St Andrews, Hogmanay on Princes Street, a Saturday at Murrayfield or a drive north into Perthshire and the Highlands. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around whichever it is. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Edinburgh is in Scotland, so a flight from London, Cardiff, Manchester or Belfast is domestic from start to finish, while a jet coming in from Geneva, Paris or Dubai lands at an airport with customs on the field, and the planning differs accordingly.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Edinburgh depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Luton, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Edinburgh?
About an hour from the London fields in a light jet, roughly 1 h 25 min from Cardiff or Bristol in a turboprop, about an hour from Manchester or Liverpool, and no change of clock from anywhere in Britain. At 122 to 315 nautical miles these are short sectors, the kind where the climb and descent take a large share of the flight and where the price meets a minimum charge long before the distance matters. The table gives the sector from each British field into Edinburgh Airport (EDI). Glasgow, Newcastle and Aberdeen are left out on purpose: they lie 37, 82 and 88 nautical miles away, and the road or the train is as quick as any aircraft.

Door to door, and no border on the way
Edinburgh Airport stands at Ingliston, about 6 miles (9 km) west of the city centre beside the M8 and M9, and the Edinburgh tram runs from a stop at the airport through the western suburbs and the city centre to Newhaven. The air distance from the London fields is 277 to 315 nautical miles. Against the shuttle flights and the East Coast train, the charter does not win on minutes. It wins on what surrounds them: no check-in, a car at the foot of the steps, and a departure that waits for the last person at the meeting. A morning in the New Town, lunch in Fife and the evening back in London all fit into one day. Cardiff, Manchester and Belfast get the same arrangement with no passport control at either end.
Turboprop, light jet or midsize: how the choice goes on this route
– North of the Midlands, and from Belfast, the Pilatus PC-12 is the aircraft to ask for. Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and Belfast all price at £3,100 in it, the turboprop minimum, where a Citation CJ3+ would cost £5,300 for a saving of ten or fifteen minutes in the air. Eight seats and a hold that takes golf bags are plenty for most parties;
– Out of London the sum reverses. The CJ3+ from Biggin Hill takes about 1 h 05 min and costs £5,350, while the same trip in a PC-12 would run to about 1 h 30 min in the air, a long time in a turboprop for a saving that is not large. The jet earns its fee when Edinburgh is one of several stops in a day;
– A midsize or larger cabin is for a full party, for hospitality at the Open or the rugby, for golf bags and shooting luggage, or for a trip that continues from Edinburgh to the Alps or the Gulf. The runway at Edinburgh is 2,558 m and Signature says its ramp takes everything from a King Air to an Airbus A330, so no business aircraft is ruled out.

Prices for the private jet flights to Edinburgh
Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into Edinburgh Airport. The festival weeks in August, Hogmanay and the Open week, when it is played at St Andrews, can price above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Three of the four London sectors, from London City, Luton and Farnborough, are priced at £5,300, the light-jet minimum, and Biggin Hill is only £50 above it at £5,350. On the turboprop side Belfast, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester all sit on the £3,100 minimum, and East Midlands at £3,150 is barely above it. Those flat figures are not rounding. A one-way charter is billed with the aircraft's return positioning, and on a short sector a minimum charge replaces the distance calculation. The price starts to move with Birmingham at £3,300 and reaches £3,950 from Bristol and Cardiff, where the turboprop needs most of an hour and a half.

Private jet flights from Edinburgh
Edinburgh sends a different mix from London. Belfast, Dublin and Inverness are turboprop hops, Amsterdam and Paris are light-jet sectors of an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half, the Alps and the Mediterranean sit at two to three hours, and the heavy long-range work is normally planned with a larger cabin. Belfast, Dublin and the Highlands: where the aircraft earns its place
Belfast City is 122 nautical miles from Edinburgh, about 50 minutes in a PC-12, and Inverness is 102 nautical miles, about 45 minutes. Both are domestic: no passport, no customs, no report to file. Dublin is 189 nautical miles away and about 1 h 05 min by turboprop, but Dublin is in the EU, so a flight there is a flight into another jurisdiction with its own arrival rules for passengers and for any animal on board. For a party that has to be in Inverness for a morning and back in the capital for dinner, the aircraft is the only sensible answer; the same party driving would spend most of the day on the road.
Before you accept a quote for a departure from Edinburgh
– Which handler. Business traffic at Edinburgh goes through the General Aviation area on the north side of the field, apart from the main terminal, and a driver told only "Edinburgh Airport" can wait at the wrong building. Give us the FBO as well as the airport;
– Which week. In the August festival weeks and on big sporting days the handlers advise 48 to 72 hours of notice at the very least, against a few hours on an ordinary day, and slots and parking tighten before that. A late request in Festival week is the one that costs more.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Edinburgh:
Light jets, the usual choice from London
At about an hour in the air this is the class for four to six people with ordinary luggage. The 2,558 m runway at Edinburgh limits none of these, so the money goes on the cabin and not on capability you will not use.
Midsize, for golf parties and the rugby
The hold fills faster than the seats on a Scottish trip: golf bags, waterproofs, a shooting party's cases or a group in kilts and evening dress. A midsize cabin carries all of it and keeps the party together.
Super-midsize and large
For a party that travels as one group, a delegation that works in the air, or a trip that continues from Edinburgh to the Alps or the Gulf. Nothing here is restricted by the runway, and the FBO ramp is sized for far larger aircraft.
Turboprops
The right aircraft for the north of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the short hops to Dublin and Inverness, and for the airfields where a jet cannot land. The quote sits at the minimum charge on most of these sectors.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from London but for the last stretch: a golf estate in Perthshire or Fife, a country-house lawn, the shore of a loch. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote, not after it.

This is a small part of what is available. Edinburgh is a short sector from Glasgow, Newcastle and Manchester, so for a booking outside a festival week there is usually an aircraft already within reach, and a quote may name one of those cities as the positioning point. That is normal and often where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Edinburgh
One airport does most of the work, and several others matter when the programme is in Glasgow, Ayrshire, Fife or the north. Two airfields you might expect to find on the list, Perth and Cumbernauld, are too short for a jet and are described below only so that nobody books them by mistake.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Edinburgh EDI / EGPH |
The airport for the capital, Fife, the Lothians and most of Perthshire. One asphalt runway, 06/24, of 2,558 m, at an elevation of 34 m, about 6 miles (9 km) west of the centre. Signature Flight Support runs the business aviation terminal, a purpose-built FBO with VIP suites, a conference room, a discreet entrance for passengers and crew and its own security screening, on a general aviation apron of 6,497 square metres that takes aircraft from King Airs to A330s. Fuel, tugs, steps and ground power are on site. Customs and immigration are listed as available round the clock and are arranged through the handler. The airport is open 24 hours, and we confirm the details for your date |
| Glasgow GLA / EGPF |
The answer for Glasgow, Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and the Clyde coast. Runway 05/23 of 2,665 m, about 7 miles (11 km) west of the city and 37 nautical miles from Edinburgh. Gama Aviation is the FBO, staffed round the clock, with a VIP lounge, crew rooms, hangarage by appointment, a dedicated apron, a Jet A1 bowser and on-site security screening for charter passengers. A useful second choice when the weekend is west of Edinburgh, and a fallback when Edinburgh is full |
| Glasgow Prestwick PIK / EGPK |
The airport for the Ayrshire courses and for Turnberry, which lies about 20 miles (32 km) away. Two runways, 12/30 of 2,987 m and 02/20 of 1,906 m, about 32 miles (51 km) south-west of Glasgow and 51 nautical miles from Edinburgh. Prestwick Aviation Services is the in-house FBO and handler, open 24 hours a day with no restrictions, with Jet A1 and Avgas. At 2,987 m its main runway is the longest of the Scottish airports described here, which matters for the heaviest aircraft |
| Dundee DND / EGPN |
The nearest airport to St Andrews, Carnoustie and Gleneagles, in the city, about 2 miles from the centre and about 15 miles from St Andrews, and 34 nautical miles from Edinburgh. Runway 09/27 of 1,400 m, so turboprops and light jets only. The airport holds customs airport status. It is often at its busiest in championship weeks, and we confirm hours and handling for the date |
| Aberdeen ABZ / EGPD |
For Aberdeen and the north-east, 88 nautical miles north-east of Edinburgh. Runway 16/34 of 1,953 m, about 6 miles (10 km) north-west of the city at Dyce. Signature handles most private and corporate jets on the Eastside Apron. The field is the main heliport for the North Sea, helicopters make up almost half of its movements, and the overnight restriction there applies to helicopters, not to fixed-wing aircraft |
| Inverness INV / EGPE |
The airport for the Highlands, 102 nautical miles from Edinburgh. Runway 05/23 of 1,888 m, about 8 miles (13 km) north-east of the city. We confirm the handler, the hours and customs in writing for the date |
| Perth PSL / EGPT |
Scotland's main general aviation airfield, about 3 miles (6 km) north-east of Perth. The longest runway is 853 m, so it takes light piston aircraft and small turboprops, not business jets. The field is operated from 09:00 to 17:00 |
| Cumbernauld EGPG |
About 13 miles (21 km) north-east of Glasgow. Runway 07/25 of 819 m, used mainly for flying training, helicopters and light charter, and regarded as a reliever for Glasgow and Edinburgh. Not an option for a jet |
Four points settle most Edinburgh arrivals:
Choose the airport by the programme
Edinburgh for the capital, Fife, the Lothians and Perthshire, and for any aircraft larger than a light jet. Dundee when the day is on the links at St Andrews or Carnoustie and the aircraft is a light jet or a turboprop. Glasgow for the west. Prestwick for the Ayrshire coast. Aberdeen and Inverness for the north.
Hours and night rules
Edinburgh is a 24-hour airport, and published airport information shows no restriction on night flying, although some flight-support sites mention limits on the loudest aircraft between 23:00 and 06:00. We check the aircraft type, the handler's hours and the Border Force arrangements for the date before the quote.
Passport and papers
From elsewhere in the United Kingdom the flight is domestic: no passport control, no customs and no General Aviation Report. The handler still asks for the names of the passengers, and we advise a passport or a driving licence as photo identification. An arrival from abroad follows the customs rules described below.
Notice and slots
Edinburgh is listed by the UK slot coordinator as a Level 2 airport. A private arrival still needs prior permission, a few hours of notice is normal on an ordinary day, and the handlers advise 48 to 72 hours in the Festival weeks and on big sporting days. For Hogmanay and the Tattoo weeks we ask for more.

Passport, customs and the flight home
Travelling from London, Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol or Belfast, the party is still inside the United Kingdom. There is no passport check at the aircraft door, no customs and no General Aviation Report. What the Signature desk wants is the passenger list and the expected arrival time.
A jet from outside the United Kingdom is different. Coming in from Paris, Geneva, Dubai or New York, the aircraft lands at Edinburgh, where customs and immigration are arranged through the handler, a General Aviation Report is filed between 48 and 2 hours before departure, and Border Force decides who may enter. Getting this wrong is expensive: the penalty is £2,500 for a first landing at a non-regulated aerodrome, and £2,000 for each passenger carried without permission. Most visitors who need no visa must also hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation, though British and Irish citizens do not.
Leaving Edinburgh, the destination sets the rules. A British passport holder heading for the Schengen area meets EU border checks on arrival, including a photo and fingerprints at the first entry. Give us the nationalities in the party when you ask for a quote, and we check the position for the dates.

From the apron to the Royal Mile and beyond
Edinburgh keeps a full diary. The Castle stands over Princes Street Gardens, Princes Street is the site of the Hogmanay street party, the Old Town runs along the High Street, and Murrayfield, Scotland's largest stadium at 67,144 seats, sits on the tram line between the city and the airport. A private party rarely needs more than one base. The programme is built around it, and the airport is only 20 to 30 minutes from the door in normal traffic.
about 6 miles (9 km) to the west, by car or by tram from a stop at the airporttypically 20 to 30 minutes
on the tram line towards the city, between Balgreen and Haymarkettypically 15 minutes
about 55 miles by road up the M90, in Fifetypically 75 to 90 minutes
Auchterarder in Perthshire, for the three courses and the hoteltypically 1 hour
north of Perth along the A9, for the Highland edgetypically 1 hour 30 minutes
East Lothian, on the coast east of the city, for the Scottish Opentypically 40 minutes
St Andrews is the first destination most golfers ask about. The town lies about 30 miles north-east of Edinburgh as the crow flies and about 10 miles south-east of Dundee, the University of St Andrews dates from the early fifteenth century, and the Old Course, bought by the town council in 1894, is the most frequent venue of the Open Championship. Dundee Airport is about 15 miles from the town and is the closest airport to the championship courses at St Andrews, Gleneagles and Carnoustie, though its 1,400 m runway limits it to light jets and turboprops. A larger aircraft lands at Edinburgh and drives to the town in an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half.
Perthshire is a different kind of trip. Gleneagles, at Auchterarder, has the King's, the Queen's and the PGA Centenary courses, and the Ryder Cup was played on the last of them. The hotel and its station were built by the Caledonian Railway, and the Scottish Open has also been played there. Pitlochry lies about 90 minutes from Edinburgh Airport by the A9, which makes it a natural second night for a Highland programme. Farther north the airports of Inverness and Aberdeen are the sensible landing points, and a client with a long Highland programme usually flies once, to the northern airport, and drives the circuit from there.
Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and the Ayrshire coast belong to the west. For those the right airport is Glasgow, or Prestwick for Turnberry, and not Edinburgh, which would add a long drive at the start and end of the day. A programme that joins the two coasts is the one that most often justifies a helicopter, and the section below describes how that works.
Flying to Edinburgh with a dog or a cat
A pet on a flight from an English or Welsh airfield to Edinburgh sits in the cabin with the owner, and nothing has to be declared, because the flight never leaves Great Britain. The one requirement is the microchip that British law already demands for a dog. The sector lasts about an hour, and most animals sleep. Paperwork begins only when the flight starts or finishes abroad.

What each type of Edinburgh flight asks of the animal:
- From England or Wales: nothing beyond the microchip and the usual documents for the operator;
- From Northern Ireland: a dog or cat coming back to Great Britain is not checked on the way, and a dog needs no tapeworm treatment on the return from Northern Ireland. In the other direction, an animal going from Great Britain to Northern Ireland needs a separate document and notification;
- From abroad into Edinburgh: a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival, a pet travel document and a declaration are required, and no more than five animals may travel with one person. Cats do not need the tapeworm treatment;
- From Edinburgh to the EU: a microchip fitted before or at the same time as the rabies vaccination, a rabies vaccination from 12 weeks of age followed by a 21-day wait, and an Animal Health Certificate for each trip, valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A Great Britain pet passport is not valid for entry to the EU.
What catches owners out on the Edinburgh run
– The country the animal is going to. Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland, Malta and Norway add a tapeworm treatment for dogs on the way in, and Northern Ireland has a separate notice and document for animals arriving from Great Britain. We raise it with the first quote;
– The return flight. The certificate carries its own validity for the return to Great Britain, so read the dates on the paper before the trip and not after it;
– Quarantine. If the rules are not met on arrival in Great Britain, an animal can be held in quarantine for up to four months, and rules for countries outside the listed group are stricter and need a blood test.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.
The Edinburgh calendar: rugby, festivals and the Open
Edinburgh has a busy winter, a quiet spring, one very loud August and a long run of golf in between. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why Festival week costs more
Aircraft are not the scarce item. Space is. In the August weeks, over Hogmanay and in Open week the same days draw on the same ramp, the same handler, the same drivers and the same hotel rooms, and the airport has to find a slot and a parking place for every one of them. Handlers advise at least 48 to 72 hours in those weeks, and a request made two weeks ahead can often still be met, at a higher price and sometimes with an aircraft brought up from Glasgow or Newcastle. Booked six weeks out, the same trip is simpler and cheaper. On an ordinary Tuesday in October, by contrast, Edinburgh can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Edinburgh price down
- Use the turboprop from the north and from Belfast. Up to about 170 nautical miles the PC-12 is £3,100 and a light jet £5,300, and eight people with golf bags do not need a bigger cabin;
- Pick the departure field by the drive. Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Belfast cost the same to Edinburgh, so the nearest one is the cheapest in effect;
- Ask where the aircraft sleeps. One already based in Glasgow, Newcastle or Manchester needs less positioning than one coming up from the south, and positioning is a big share of a short sector;
- Move the date if it can move. The same flight on a Wednesday in September costs less than on the first weekend of August.
Types of flights
Edinburgh mixes things that other British cities keep apart: a capital, a festival city, a rugby venue and the starting point for the golf courses of Fife, Perthshire and East Lothian.
- Business and professional travel into the city, usually a morning in and an afternoon out, with Edinburgh Airport 6 miles from the centre;
- Golf parties for St Andrews, Carnoustie, Gleneagles and the Open week, often with a helicopter or a chauffeured car booked for the last stretch;
- Rugby weekends for the Six Nations, flown in on the Friday and out on the Sunday;
- Festival and event traffic: the Royal Highland Show in June, the Fringe, the International Festival and the Tattoo in August, and Hogmanay at the end of the year;
- Highland and Perthshire weekends, flown into Edinburgh, Inverness or Aberdeen, usually with a dog and a lot of luggage;
- Departures to London, Belfast and Dublin, and onward to the Alps and the Mediterranean, which are the same flights run the other way.
Take the day trip as an example. Leave Biggin Hill at seven, land a little after eight and be at a desk in the city by nine. The aircraft waits on the Signature ramp, the return leaves when the dinner ends, and the waiting time is a line in the quote, though it usually still beats two separate one-way charters.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Edinburgh has several seasonal peaks that create them, and it helps to know what produces them.
Where Edinburgh empty legs come from
– Event weeks. Aircraft bring parties for the Open, the Festival or the rugby and leave empty a day or two later, which produces outbound legs on the Sunday evening and the Monday;
– Weekend turn-rounds. An aircraft that has brought a Friday party up from London flies home empty on the Sunday, and that evening leg is the one most often put on the market;
– Positioning from Glasgow and Newcastle. Operators that move aircraft between Edinburgh, Glasgow and the north of England put short legs on the market, and short legs can be cheap.
Edinburgh sees fewer movements than the busiest London corridors, so flexibility counts for a lot: a client who offers a three-day window is far likelier to find a leg than one who needs a given Friday. The operator, not the passenger, fixes the hour, and a leg can disappear if the booking behind it changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag an Edinburgh match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In Edinburgh a helicopter is a tool for the last stretch and not for the city. The airport is 6 miles from the centre and a tram or a car does that work. The places where rotary flight changes the journey are the golf estate, the loch shore and the Highland house, where the road adds an hour or more to each end of the day.

– A helicopter cannot simply land on a fairway. An estate, a hotel lawn or an event field needs the owner's consent and a check of the site, and we settle that before the quote is written;
– Weather decides. Low cloud over the Highland edge, and Scottish wind and rain, can ground a helicopter on a day when the jet lands normally, so every transfer has a car arranged as the fallback;
– In Open week, during the Fringe and at Hogmanay, the helicopter has to be booked together with the jet. Left late, it is usually the first thing that is not available.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for the quick transfers, the wider H130 for country-house and course transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Edinburgh charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK
A morning meeting in Edinburgh and home for dinner
Biggin Hill - Edinburgh and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 05 min each way · 4 pax
Out of Biggin Hill at seven, on the ground a little after eight and in the meeting by nine. The crew stayed with the aircraft at the Signature FBO, the client returned in the evening and the waiting time came to less than a second charter would have cost.
FESTIVAL · THE TATTOO
A party of four for an August evening on the Esplanade
London Luton - Edinburgh, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h · 4 pax
The aircraft was the simple part. The slot, a parking place and the hotel rooms were fixed weeks ahead, since the Fringe, the International Festival and the Tattoo all run together in August, and a car waited at the FBO to take the party into town.
GOLF · ST ANDREWS
Four players and their clubs for a links weekend
Farnborough - Dundee, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 10 min · 4 pax
Dundee is the nearest airport to the courses, and a 1,400 m runway is enough for a light jet. With four sets of clubs in the hold, the cabin was chosen first and the airport second. A car crossed to St Andrews, and the return flew on the Sunday afternoon.
RUGBY · THE SIX NATIONS
Seven supporters for a weekend at Murrayfield
Cardiff - Edinburgh, Pilatus PC-12, about 1 h 25 min · 7 pax
A turboprop fitted the group and cost much less than a jet. They landed on the Friday evening, were at the stadium for the Saturday afternoon and flew home on Sunday morning, with the car and the hotel arranged in the same message.
INBOUND · CUSTOMS AT EDINBURGH
A Geneva arrival with a dog
Geneva - Edinburgh, Citation XLS+, about 2 h · 3 pax + dog
The General Aviation Report was filed inside the 48-hour window, Border Force was booked through the handler, and a vet gave the dog its tapeworm treatment inside the 24 to 120 hour window before landing. The party never went near the main terminal.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING TO LONDON
A jet already going your way
Edinburgh - London Luton, Citation CJ3+ empty leg, about 1 h · 3 pax
The jet had flown a weekend party up and was returning without passengers. The client offered a three-day window rather than one date, which is what makes these legs work, and paid far less than a new one-way charter would have cost.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Edinburgh
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Edinburgh?
About 1 h from Luton and about 1 h 05 min from London City, Farnborough and Biggin Hill in a light jet, covering 277 to 315 nautical miles. From Manchester or Liverpool a turboprop takes about 1 h, from Bristol or Cardiff about 1 h 25 min. There is no change of clock.
2How much does a private jet to Edinburgh cost?
From £5,300 one way on a Citation CJ3+ from London City, Luton or Farnborough, which is the minimum charge on a sector this short, and £5,350 from Biggin Hill. A Pilatus PC-12 from Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds or Belfast costs £3,100. The August festival weeks, Hogmanay and Open week can price above these figures.
3Which airport should I use for Edinburgh, St Andrews or Gleneagles?
Edinburgh Airport (EDI / EGPH) for the capital, Fife and Perthshire. It has a 2,558 m runway and a dedicated FBO run by Signature Flight Support. For St Andrews, Dundee is the closest airport to the course, but its runway is 1,400 m, so it suits turboprops and light jets. Glasgow is the choice for Loch Lomond, and Prestwick for the Ayrshire courses and Turnberry.
4Do I need a passport or customs clearance to fly to Edinburgh?
Not from elsewhere in the United Kingdom. A flight from anywhere in England, Wales or Northern Ireland is domestic, with no passport control, no customs and no General Aviation Report. Handlers still ask for names, and we advise carrying photo identification. An arrival from abroad needs a report filed between 48 and 2 hours before departure, and customs is arranged through the handler at Edinburgh.
5Does Edinburgh Airport have a curfew, and are there slots in August?
Edinburgh is a 24-hour airport and published airport information shows no restriction on night flying. It is a Level 2 airport for slot coordination, a private arrival needs prior permission, and in the Festival weeks and on big sporting days the handlers advise 48 to 72 hours of notice, against a few hours on an ordinary day. We confirm hours and parking for your date.
6Can I take my dog to Edinburgh on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you. Within Great Britain no import paperwork is needed. From abroad a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival, a pet travel document and a declaration, and no more than five animals may travel with one person. Going from Edinburgh to the EU needs an Animal Health Certificate for each trip.
