Private jet charter in Benin
From London, Benin is a nonstop sector of 2,811 nautical miles for an Embraer Praetor 600 and a one-stop plan for anything lighter, and the aircraft turns out to be the easy part of the job. A landing permit, a handler booked before departure, a visa that British passengers must arrange in advance and a published list of regions the Foreign Office tells travellers to avoid decide how a Benin charter goes. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Almost every trip lands at Cotonou, and services beyond it are thin, so we say plainly what we can arrange.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Benin depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Praetor 600 to Cotonou, nonstop, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Benin?
Benin keeps West Africa Time all year: an hour ahead of Britain in winter, the same as British Summer Time. These are the sectors to Cotonou on a Praetor 600, gate to gate:
2,811 nautical miles, the closest of the London fields that suit a long sector, and the basis for the price at the top of the pageabout 6 h 35 min
2,810 nautical miles, the usual choice for Surrey, Hampshire and the Thames Valleyabout 6 h 35 min
2,944 nautical miles, the main departure for the north of Englandabout 6 h 55 min
3,110 nautical miles, the main Scottish departure, with the longest sector of the fourabout 7 h 15 min
Why the aircraft decides the plan
The Praetor 600, the Challenger 605 and everything larger fly London to Cotonou in one hop. A light jet such as the Phenom 300E and a midsize jet such as the Citation XLS+ have ranges of roughly 2,000 nautical miles, so they stop in Gran Canaria first, which typically adds about an hour.
The second leg from Gran Canaria is 1,709 nautical miles, close to the limit for a light jet with a full cabin. From Biggin Hill a Phenom 300E through the Canaries takes about 8 h 45 min gate to gate and prices at about £40,400, while a Citation XLS+ on that routing comes to about £50,350, more than the £44,850 for a Praetor 600 that flies straight through.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– The departure airfield moves the price less than the aircraft does. Manchester costs about £2,000 more than Biggin Hill on the same Praetor 600, while the step from a Praetor to a Challenger 605 on the same departure is about £12,550;
– A one-way price assumes the aircraft flies home empty. For a stay of several days the aircraft either waits at Cotonou, with parking and the crew's hotel as lines of their own, or flies back and returns for you. Permits, handling and fuel are quoted separately, and that is where two quotes for the same trip usually differ.
Private jet flights within Benin and to its neighbours
Benin has a coastline of only 121 kilometres, and its commercial life sits on it. Parakou, the main city of the interior, is 188 nautical miles from Cotonou in a straight line, and Togo and Nigeria, its closest neighbours, are a short hop away by air. These are the sectors we are asked for:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cotonou - Lagos (Nigeria) 60 nm / 111 km |
Pilatus PC-12 NGX up to 9 |
about 45 min | from £3,100 |

| Cotonou - Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire) 398 nm / 737 km |
Citation XLS+ up to 9 |
about 1 h 25 min | from £7,900 |
Domestic sectors and the neighbours
– A British aircraft does not usually carry passengers between two points inside Benin. That is cabotage, which most countries reserve for local operators, and we found no scheduled domestic service we would plan around. For Parakou or Djougou we name the option on each quote, usually the road or a local charter;
– Natitingou lies in Atacora, where the Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel, so we do not price flights there;
– Lome, Lagos, Accra and Abidjan are separate countries with their own permits and entry rules, and the Foreign Office notes that visas for Nigeria, Ghana and Togo cannot be obtained in Benin, so they are arranged before departure.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Benin:
Turboprops
For the hops to Togo, Nigeria and Ghana, never for the journey from London.
Light and midsize jets
These need a fuel stop in Gran Canaria and suit three or four people with soft bags.
Super-midsize
The first class that reaches Cotonou in one hop. The Praetor 600 sets the entry price.
Heavy jets
For a delegation or a family with staff. These fly from anywhere in Britain without a stop.
Ultra-long range
Save a little time and carry up to 16 people.

Business aviation airports in Benin
Benin has one airport that takes international business traffic, and it is the gateway for every charter from Britain. Regional airfields exist at Natitingou, Djougou, Kandi, Save, Bohicon, Bembereke and Porga, but we found no verified runway, customs or handling data for them, so we do not plan passenger arrivals there:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Cotonou Cardinal Bernardin Gantin International COO / DBBB |
about 6 km north-west of the centre of Cotonou, the old Cadjehoun airport | One asphalt and concrete runway, 06/24, of 2,400 metres (7,874 feet) by 45 metres (148 feet), at an elevation of 20 feet, with an instrument landing system. Listed as open round the clock with the tower staffed 24 hours, customs and airport of entry status, Jet A-1 and rescue and fire category 8. Handling is listed as mandatory |
| Parakou and Tourou PKO / DBBP |
in the north-central interior; Parakou airfield about 1 km from the city, Tourou about 10 km north-west of it | The old Parakou airfield has a 1,600 metre dirt runway, and the larger Tourou airport, listed with a 3,500 metre asphalt runway, is described as its replacement. We found no customs status or handler for either, so an international party clears at Cotonou first |
| Glo-Djigbe (planned) not in service |
in the Abomey-Calavi area, about 20 km from Cotonou | A replacement for Cotonou with a 4,250 metre runway has been planned for many years and is listed as postponed. We plan every trip to Cotonou and confirm the position if it changes |
Cotonou has no business aviation terminal that we can name and describe. A flight-support directory lists Jetmate Aviation as supervising agent for fuel and nine trip-support companies, and Menzies Aviation lists Cotonou with a ground handling line, without local detail. We choose the handler and confirm in writing where the party is processed.
Four points settle most Beninese arrivals before a quote goes out:
Permit: ask early
A foreign aircraft needs a landing permit through the civil aviation authority, ANAC. One guide recommends 72 hours' notice, another 24 to 48 working hours. A landing permit is listed as valid for 24 hours.
Parking slot
One handler guide says a landing permit and a parking slot are both mandatory, while another listing says slots are not required. We get the parking confirmed in writing.
Papers for the permit
Registration, airworthiness and insurance certificates, crew passport copies, the UTC schedule, the routing, a passenger manifest and a radio licence. Guides differ on whether a private aircraft needs an air operator certificate.
Hours on the ground
Customs and immigration are listed as available round the clock, but the airport administration is listed from 06:00 to 14:00 UTC and the civil aviation office from 07:00 to 18:30 UTC.
Arriving from Britain: visa, yellow fever and the Foreign Office advice
British passengers cannot simply turn up with a passport: Benin requires a visa, and the health papers and the aircraft permit are separate checks.
British citizens need a visa to enter or transit Benin. The Foreign Office says to apply online through the official e-visa site at least seven days before arrival, and that visas are issued on arrival at Cotonou airportarrange before you fly
valid for the whole of the stay, and not reported lost or stolencheck the expiry
a certificate proving yellow fever vaccination must be presented on entrybring the certificate
The Foreign Office advice, as published
The Foreign Office advises against all travel to the Parc du W National Park and the hunting zones of Mekrou and Djona, the area between that park and the border with Niger, the Pendjari National Park and its adjacent hunting grounds, and all other areas within 5 km of the border with Burkina Faso. It advises against all but essential travel to the area between the RNIE 2 highway from Tchaourou to Malanville and the Nigerian border, and to the rest of the Alibori and Atacora departments, and warns that travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against its advice.
For the country as a whole it says that terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks, that street crime and carjacking occur in Cotonou, that political unrest can occur without warning, and that ocean currents along the coast are very strong. We ask clients to read the full text before they accept a quote.
Clearance and the way home
On arrival, passengers and crew clear immigration and customs at Cotonou, which is listed as an airport of entry. Crew visas are listed as issued on arrival, usually valid for up to 72 hours.
Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation. Passengers who hold another passport should check their own entry rules before they fly.

Which airport for which part of Benin
The answer is Cotonou for nearly everything, with the places below reached from it:
the largest city, the seat of government and the portCotonou
the official capital, about 30 km east of Cotonou, with several museumsCotonou, then by road
the historic Atlantic port and the spiritual centre of Vodun, on the coast to the west of CotonouCotonou, then by road or helicopter
a lake village of about 3,000 stilt buildingsCotonou, then by boat
the former seat of the Kingdom of Dahomey, with royal palaces on the UNESCO listCotonou, then by road or helicopter
the interior, where the Foreign Office draws its linesCotonou, then a local arrangement
Cotonou and the coast: what our clients go for
Business and official visits decide most trips. Cotonou is the seat of government and its port is one of the largest in West Africa. Porto-Novo is the official capital, so a delegation often splits its days between the two cities, about 30 km apart.
History is the second reason. Ouidah holds the Door of No Return on the Route des Esclaves, a Vodun python temple and the Portuguese fort of Sao Joao Baptista de Ajuda, now a museum. At Abomey the royal palaces of the kings of Dahomey are a World Heritage Site. Ganvie, on Lake Nokoue, is the other half-day trip from Cotonou.
The Beninese year: the dry months, the harmattan and the rains
The south has two rainy seasons and two drier spells. Cotonou stays hot all year, with daily highs between about 28 and 32 degrees:
the main dry season. The harmattan, a dry dusty wind from the Sahara, blows from December to March, and a haze of fine dust often dims the sky. Highs are about 32 degreeshigh season
the main rains, with June the wettest month. Flooding can follow outside the cities and ground transfers take longerwet
a cooler and drier spell, with highs of about 28 to 29 degreesshoulder
the shorter rains, easing into the dry monthsshoulder
The Beninese calendar: Vodun Days and the dry-season window
Few dates drive a flight plan to Benin, and we list only the one that does:
What an event does to a flight plan
Roads to Ouidah and the hotels around it are in demand around 10 January, so we book the car and the hotel together with the landing permit.

Flying to Benin with a dog or a cat
A pet can travel in the cabin, but the papers take planning.
The facts to read before you book
A pet-travel guide for Benin says that dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies between 30 days and 12 months before import, that an import permit is not required for a personal pet, and that a health certificate issued shortly before travel and the rabies certificate are submitted to the Beninese consulate for endorsement. A microchip is not mandatory for Benin but is strongly recommended.
The same guide says pets must enter at Cotonou airport. We found no official Beninese text, so we obtain the requirements in writing before the aircraft is confirmed.
- A microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, which Britain requires for the way home even though Benin does not;
- A health certificate from a British vet, issued shortly before departure, with the rabies certificate attached, endorsed by the Beninese consulate.
Coming home, a pet from a country outside the simple British scheme, as we understand Benin to be, needs a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, then a rabies blood test taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, and a wait of three months from the date of the sample before the animal travels. The wait is not required if the animal was vaccinated and blood-tested, with a British health certificate or an EU pet passport, before it left, which is why we ask owners to do the tests before the outward flight. A dog must also be treated against tapeworm by a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before landing in Britain. No more than five animals may travel with one person, and an animal that arrives without the right paperwork can be held in quarantine for up to four months.
We confirm in writing which entry point will receive the animal and which papers are needed. Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species are set out in our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price.
Where Beninese empty legs come from
– A charter that lands in Cotonou and does not wait: the aircraft returns to Europe empty, and the leg home is the one most often offered;
– Aircraft repositioned along the coast after a contract in Lagos, Accra or Abidjan.
Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Beninese empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Benin (Cotonou) - UK (London Biggin Hill) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £18,850 |
| UK (London Luton) - Benin (Cotonou) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £19,050 |
| UK (Manchester) - Benin (Cotonou) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £19,700 |
| Benin (Cotonou) - UK (Bristol) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £24,200 |
| Benin (Cotonou) - UK (Birmingham) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £24,700 |
| UK (Farnborough) - Benin (Cotonou) | Legacy 650 | 13 seats | £25,450 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Praetor 600 from Manchester to Cotonou with nine aboard works out at about £2,200 a seat, and with four aboard about £4,900.

Helicopter charter
We found no helicopter operator at Cotonou that we can name and verify, so we confirm the machine, the crew and each landing site when the request comes in; a helicopter carrying passengers between two Beninese places is normally a Beninese one. These are the transfers that come up:
the historic port on the coast, in place of a road journeyabout 20 min
the lake village, a short hop that most visitors make by boatabout 10 min
the royal palaces inland, in place of a long driveabout 40 min
The times are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots, and daylight is the limit.

Flights from the UK to Benin
Biggin Hill and Farnborough are the south-east airfields best suited to a long sector, with Luton, Gatwick, Stansted and London City as the other London options. Manchester is 133 nautical miles further from Cotonou than Biggin Hill, which adds about £2,000 on a Praetor 600. The table below lists the British airports we work with:

Frequently asked questions about flying to Benin
1How long does it take to fly to Benin by private jet?
About 6 hours 35 minutes from London Biggin Hill to Cotonou on a Praetor 600, without a stop. A light jet such as the Phenom 300E needs a fuel stop in Gran Canaria and takes about 8 hours 45 minutes.
2How much does a private jet to Benin cost?
From about £44,850 one way from Biggin Hill to Cotonou on a Praetor 600. A Challenger 605 on the same departure is about £57,400, and from Edinburgh it is about £63,150. Cotonou to Lome starts from £3,100 on a turboprop.
3Which airport do private jets use in Benin?
Cotonou Cardinal Bernardin Gantin International (COO / DBBB), the old Cadjehoun airport, about 6 km from the centre. It is listed open round the clock with customs, a 2,400 metre runway and mandatory handling. We found no verified customs or handling data for the northern airports.
4Do British passengers need a visa for a private flight to Benin?
Yes. The Foreign Office says British citizens need a visa, applied for online at least seven days before arrival, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. The aircraft also needs a landing permit, typically requested 24 to 72 hours ahead.
5What does the Foreign Office advise about travel to Benin?
It advises against all travel to Parc du W, the Pendjari National Park and areas within 5 km of the Burkina Faso border, and against all but essential travel to the rest of the Alibori and Atacora departments and the east near the Nigerian border. It also says terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks.
6Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Benin?
Yes, with planning. A pet-travel guide says the rabies vaccination must fall between 30 days and 12 months before import and the health certificate is endorsed by the Beninese consulate. The return follows the British rules for countries outside the simple scheme, including a rabies blood test.
