Private jet charter in Gambia
London to the Gambian coast is a flight of about six hours, and it ends at the only airport in the country that takes international traffic. The sector from Biggin Hill to Banjul is 2,517 nautical miles, which an Embraer Praetor 600 flies without a stop, while lighter jets break the journey in the Canaries. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For The Gambia that means the landing and overflight permit, a handler named before departure and a car waiting on arrival.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Gambia depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Praetor 600 to Banjul International, nonstop, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Gambia?
The Gambia keeps Greenwich Mean Time all year, so the clock matches Britain in winter and runs one hour behind from spring to autumn. These are the sectors to Banjul on a Praetor 600, gate to gate:
2,517 nautical miles, the nearest London field that suits a long sector, and the basis for the price at the top of the pageabout 5 h 55 min
2,501 nautical miles, the usual choice for Surrey, Hampshire and the Thames Valleyabout 5 h 55 min
2,598 nautical miles, the main departure for the north of Englandabout 6 h 05 min
2,737 nautical miles, the main Scottish departure, and the longest of the fourabout 6 h 25 min
Why the aircraft decides the plan
The Praetor 600, the Challenger 605 and everything larger reach Banjul from Britain in one hop. A light jet such as the Phenom 300E and a midsize jet such as the Citation XLS+ have ranges of roughly 2,000 nautical miles, so they call at Gran Canaria on the way, which typically adds about an hour for the landing and the fuel uplift.
From Biggin Hill a Phenom 300E through Gran Canaria takes about 7 h gate to gate, roughly an hour more than the Praetor, and our model puts it near £31,250 against £40,400. For two or three people with soft bags that is a fair trade; for a party with a week's luggage it is not. We quote both.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– Banjul lies 72 nautical miles beyond Dakar as measured from Biggin Hill, which adds about £1,050 on a Praetor 600. Manchester costs about £1,250 more than Biggin Hill on the same aircraft;
– A one-way price assumes the aircraft flies home empty. For a stay the aircraft either waits at Banjul, with parking and the crew's hotel as lines of their own, or returns to Britain and comes back for you. Permits, handling, fuel and airport charges are quoted separately, and that is where two quotes for the same trip usually differ.
Private jet flights within Gambia and to its neighbours
There is no domestic air network to price. We found no other airport or airstrip in The Gambia, so from Banjul a client either drives or makes an international hop. Ziguinchor and Cap Skirring in the Casamance are only 54 and 59 nautical miles away, but they are in Senegal, which surrounds The Gambia on three sides. The sectors we are asked for:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Banjul - Ziguinchor (Senegal) 54 nm / 100 km |
Pilatus PC-12 NGX up to 9 |
about 40 min | from £3,100 |

Short hops from Banjul
– Every row crosses a border, so each needs its own permit and handler, and the lead time does not shrink because the flight is short;
– We tell you which alternate the crew plans for Banjul before the aircraft leaves, since the nearest long runways lie across the border.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. These are the typical choices for The Gambia:
Turboprops
Useful for hops to the Casamance or to Dakar, never for the journey from London.
Light and midsize jets
These stop in Gran Canaria on the way out and suit two to five people with soft bags.
Super-midsize
The first class that reaches Banjul in one hop from London. The Praetor 600 sets the entry price on this route.
Heavy jets
A Challenger 605, Legacy 650 or Falcon 2000LXS flies from anywhere in Britain without a stop.
Ultra-long range
The Global 6000 and the Gulfstreams save a little time and carry up to 16 people.

Business aviation airports in Gambia
The Gambia has one airport that matters, and it is a good one for its size. The first row of the table is the gateway; the second is in Senegal and is listed because a crew plans an alternate before it plans anything else:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Banjul International BJL / GBYD |
at Yundum, south-west of Banjul; sources give 15 to 24 km from the capital | The only commercial airport in the country, formerly called Yundum. One asphalt runway, 14/32, of 3,600 by 45 metres at an elevation of 95 feet, with an ILS and VOR/DME approach and rescue and firefighting category 8. Airport and tower are listed as open round the clock, with customs and airport of entry status, and Jet A-1 is available; avgas is not |
| Dakar Blaise Diagne International DSS / GOBD |
in Senegal, about 87 nautical miles to the north | The nearest long runway across the border. One asphalt runway of 3,500 metres, listed open round the clock with customs and airport of entry status. A separate country, so a diversion there means a new entry and its own handling |
What the airport does not have is a private terminal we can name. We found no FBO with its own lounge at Banjul. Aircraft are handled by authorised ground handling companies, and an older airport record lists Gambia International Airlines as the only authorised handler, working round the clock on aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 767. How your party is met and processed, in the terminal or at the aircraft, is something we confirm with the handler before the flight.
The runway is generous for a small capital: 3,600 metres leaves any business jet with margin. The airport was built in the Second World War and later served as an emergency landing site for the American Space Shuttle. Its busiest hours are listed as one to six in the afternoon.
Four points settle most arrivals before a quote goes out:
Permit: ask early
The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority issues the overflight and landing permits for foreign operators, and its office hours are listed as 08:00 to 18:00 UTC. Permit agents suggest 48 to 72 hours as a safe lead time, and we lodge a weekend departure early in the week.
Validity and parking
One handler guide lists a landing permit as valid for 24 hours and an overflight permit for 72 hours, with a parking slot required together with the landing permit.
Papers for the permit
Registration and airworthiness certificates, insurance, the schedule in UTC, the routing, the purpose of the flight, and crew and passenger passport copies with the contact of a local receiving party. A private aircraft does not normally need an air operator certificate; we confirm for your tail.
Fuel and the ramp
Jet A-1 is arranged through the handler, with a fuel release once the supplier confirms. Customs and immigration are listed as available round the clock.
Arriving from Britain: passport, stamp and the Foreign Office advice
A British passport is all a tourist needs to enter, with a few conditions.
British citizens need no visa for tourist visits. Immigration stamps the passport for a stay of 28 days, and two extensions of 28 days each can be obtained from the Immigration Office in Banjul or from the tourist police stations in the Tourism Development Area28 days on arrival
valid for the duration of the stay, and not reported lost or stolencheck the expiry
a vaccination certificate is required if you arrive from a country listed as a transmission riskdepends on the routing
the Foreign Office lists US$20 payable on arrival and again on departure, with children aged one or under and transit passengers exempt. We ask the handler how it applies to a private arrivalUS$20 each way
The Foreign Office advice, as published
The safety section we read carries no warning against travel to The Gambia. It says that terrorist attacks cannot be ruled out and could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners, and advises avoiding large gatherings and protests. It also warns of corruption and petty theft, including from hotel rooms and on isolated beaches at night.
It describes severely potholed roads, poor lighting after dark and frequent checkpoints, calls the Banjul to Barra ferry overcrowded and below international safety standards, and suggests the Senegambia Bridge near Farafenni instead. We ask clients to read the full text.
Clearance and the way home
On arrival, passengers and crew clear immigration and customs at Banjul, which is listed as an airport of entry.
Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation. Passengers with another passport should check their own entry rules.

Which part of Gambia, and how to get there from Banjul
With one airport the question is not which field but how long the road is:
Kololi, Kotu and Fajara hold the main beach hotels, the Senegambia Strip near Serekunda has the restaurants and bars, and Bakau has the Kachikally crocodile poolby road, the shortest transfer
the capital on St Mary's Island, joined to the mainland by bridges to the south and by ferries to the northby road from the airport
107 hectares of forest south of the town of Abuko, with more than 270 recorded bird species, vervet, red colobus and patas monkeys and Nile and dwarf crocodilesby road
a World Heritage Site in the river and the village tied to the story of Roots, on the north bankby road and boat, planned as a full day
part of the Senegambian stone circles on the World Heritage List, with eleven circles at Wassu, north of Janjanbureh in the Central River regiona long drive upriver, best as an overnight
Clients come for winter sun on a beach six hours from London, for the river, whose system holds over 560 bird species, and for short business visits to the capital. Airline listings show TUI flying to Banjul from Gatwick and Manchester, so a charter has to earn its place with timing, luggage or privacy.
The Gambian year: the dry months and the rains
The climate is tropical savannah with one short rainy season, and the visiting season is built around it:
the main visiting season, dry and cooler, and the months in which the holiday flights from Europe runhigh season
still dry, the last month of the drier half of the yeargood
the rains. The Foreign Office warns that localised flooding is possible, that heavy rain can close roads at short notice, and that extra travel time should be allowed. August is the wettest month in Banjul, averaging about 347 mmwet
The Gambian calendar: festivals and national days
Dates for festivals move, so we check the organisers' announcements before a booking:
Planning around the festivals
We book the cars and the boat together with the aircraft, and we check the arrival and departure days against the public holidays before the permit request goes in.

Flying to Gambia with a dog or a cat
A pet can travel in the cabin, but the paperwork for The Gambia has to be settled with the veterinary authority, and the way home falls under the stricter British rules for countries outside the simple scheme.
The one fact to read before you book
The Department of Livestock Services, under the Ministry of Agriculture, controls animal imports and has no online portal. Published guides agree that a pet must enter through Banjul International Airport, with a microchip to the ISO 11784 standard, a valid rabies vaccination and a health certificate endorsed by the government vet of the country of departure.
They disagree on the timings: one guide asks for a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel, another for one between 30 days and 12 months before entry, and they differ on whether the import permit is applied for before the flight or after landing. We obtain the requirements from the Department in writing before the aircraft is confirmed.
Coming home, a pet from a country outside the simple British scheme, as we understand The Gambia to be, needs a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, then a rabies blood test taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, and a wait of three months from the date of the sample before the animal travels. The wait is not required if the animal was vaccinated, blood-tested and given a British health certificate before it left, which is why we ask owners to do the tests before the outward flight. A dog must also be treated against tapeworm by a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before landing in Britain. An animal that arrives without the right paperwork can be held in quarantine for up to four months.
We confirm in writing which entry point will receive the animal and which papers are needed. Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species are set out in our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price.
Where Gambian empty legs come from
– A charter that lands at Banjul and does not wait: the aircraft returns to Europe empty, and the leg home is the one most often offered;
– Aircraft repositioned after a West African contract.
Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Gambian empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gambia (Banjul) - UK (London Biggin Hill) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £16,950 |
| UK (London Luton) - Gambia (Banjul) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £17,150 |
| UK (Manchester) - Gambia (Banjul) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £17,500 |
| Gambia (Banjul) - UK (Bristol) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £21,400 |
| Gambia (Banjul) - UK (Birmingham) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £22,000 |
| UK (Farnborough) - Gambia (Banjul) | Legacy 650 | 13 seats | £22,850 |
| UK (Edinburgh) - Gambia (Banjul) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £23,500 |
| Gambia (Banjul) - UK (London Gatwick) | Falcon 2000LXS | 10 seats | £24,350 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Praetor 600 from Manchester to Banjul with nine aboard works out at about £1,950 a seat, and with four aboard about £4,400.

Helicopter charter
We found no helicopter charter operator in The Gambia that we can name and verify, so we do not list one. When a request comes in, we ask whether a machine can be brought in for the dates, who the operator is, and where each landing site is. The only short transfer that comes up is from the airport to the capital, about 9 nautical miles in a straight line, which a helicopter covers in 15 min at 115 knots.
A landing away from an airport needs the site agreed in advance, and for most clients the road, with a car and a driver from the handler, is the practical answer.

Flights from the UK to Gambia
Biggin Hill and Farnborough are the south-east business aviation airfields best suited to a long sector, with Luton, Gatwick, Stansted and London City as the other London options, and Southampton, Exeter, Bristol and Birmingham further out. Manchester is 81 nautical miles further from Banjul than Biggin Hill, which adds about £1,250 on a Praetor 600. The table below lists the British airports we work with:

A flexible return from Banjul
Banjul - Birmingham, Challenger 605 empty leg, about 6 h · 5 pax
The client gave us a window of three days instead of a date and paid about £22,000, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Gambia
1How long does it take to fly to Gambia by private jet?
About 5 hours 55 minutes from London Biggin Hill on a Praetor 600, without a stop. A Phenom 300E stops in Gran Canaria and takes about 7 hours.
2How much does a private jet to Gambia cost?
From about £40,400 one way from Biggin Hill on a Praetor 600. A Challenger 605 on the same departure is about £51,700, and from Edinburgh about £55,950.
3Which airport do private jets use in Gambia?
Banjul International (BJL / GBYD) at Yundum, the only commercial airport in the country, with a 3,600 metre runway, listed open round the clock with customs. We found no private terminal; authorised ground handlers meet the aircraft.
4Do British passengers need a visa and a permit for a private flight to Gambia?
No visa for a tourist visit; the passport is stamped for 28 days, with two extensions possible. The aircraft needs a permit from the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, and agents suggest 48 to 72 hours as a lead time.
5What does the Foreign Office advise about travel to Gambia?
The safety section we read carries no warning against travel. It says attacks cannot be ruled out, advises avoiding large gatherings and warns of petty theft, poor roads and an unsafe Banjul to Barra ferry.
6Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Gambia?
Yes, with several weeks of planning. Guides ask for a microchip, a rabies vaccination, an endorsed health certificate and entry through Banjul, and they disagree on timings and the import permit, so we confirm with the Department of Livestock Services. The return follows the British rules for countries outside the simple scheme, including a rabies blood test and a three-month wait.
