Private jet charter in Alghero
The Sardinian airport nearest to Britain is also the one that feels least like a resort: a walled town where people still speak Catalan, a coral coast and a runway three kilometres long, about two hours ten minutes from a London airfield. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around the town you are really going to, the season and the length of the stay. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Alghero is the north-western door of the island and sits some 140 km by road from the Costa Smeralda, so it suits some trips perfectly and others not at all.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Alghero depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Phenom 300E and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Alghero?
Two hours ten minutes from Biggin Hill, a little under three from Glasgow, and an hour to add to your watch on landing. At 757 to 1085 nautical miles Alghero is the shortest of the three Sardinian runs for a British passenger, although only by about 12 nautical miles against Olbia, which is a couple of minutes in the air. The real saving is on the ground, and only if your bed is in the north-west. The table gives the sector from each British field we use, Belfast City included.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Leave Biggin Hill at seven and the wheels meet the Fertilia runway a little after ten by Sardinian clocks. The old town is only about 10 km from the airport, which means that a guest who left a London front door at half past five can be sitting down to lunch on the bastions by one. The farther corners of the north-west are under an hour: Stintino is about 49 km away and Sassari about 30 km. Count the drive to the British airfield and the processing at both ends, and central London to a table in Alghero takes a little over four hours.
Light jet or midsize: what decides it on this route
– Two to four people with ordinary weekend bags are well suited to a Phenom 300E or a CJ3+, while a Citation XLS+ from Biggin Hill is priced about £2,550 higher one way, which is a good part of a long weekend's spending money;
– Wine cases coming home, golf bags, diving kit, a pushchair or a dog are what turn a four-seat booking into a hold problem, so for those parties we quote a midsize jet alongside and let you see both figures;
– A heavy aircraft earns its place with a party of ten or more, or when Sardinia is only the first of several stops and the same cabin and crew are to stay with you.

Alghero or Olbia for the north of the island
The two airports are about 107 km apart as the crow flies, but the road between them is around 140 km and takes 1.5 to 2 hours, longer when roadworks slow the SS729. A Pilatus PC-12 covers the 60 nautical miles in about 45 min. Olbia has the dedicated business aviation operator, Eccelsa Aviation, customs and immigration on site and a 2,745 m runway, but in the peak weeks from late June to mid-August it carries summer slot restrictions and handling delays, and it applies night noise procedures. Alghero has the longer runway and, for a stay between Stintino, Bosa and the Coral Riviera, the shorter drive. Tell us where the bed is and we quote the right one; for a stay split between the two coasts we land at one and leave from the other.
Before you accept a quote that includes Alghero
– Who handles the aircraft. Handling is compulsory at Alghero and the listings name the airport operator, SOGEAAL, as the handler. A fair quote therefore carries a handling and parking line and not only landing charges;
– Prior permission. Slots are listed as required, prior permission is requested from the operator, and the general aviation entry in the listing we use shows about eight hours' notice. A same-day trip is possible, but the paperwork starts before the price is settled;
– Fuel on a tight turn. Jet A-1 is supplied by truck, and pilots report that scheduled flights are served first at busy times, so a short turnaround should have the fuel ordered in advance.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Alghero:
Light jets, for couples and small parties
At a little over two hours this is the class for a long weekend in the old town. Fertilia's 3,000 m runway is far more than these aircraft need, so the bill follows the flying hour and not the field.
Midsize, for the extra bags and the extra guests
Cases of wine, golf clubs and a week of beach gear fill a light-jet hold quickly, and the taller cabin is welcome on the longer sectors from Scotland and Belfast.
Super-midsize and large
For a group of ten, for a delegation that moves on to other cities, and for the trips where the same crew stays with you from London to the island and onward.
Turboprops
The tool for the hops from Fertilia to Olbia, Cagliari or Ajaccio: under an hour in the air, and a fraction of the jet price over that distance.
Helicopters
Used on the coast and never for the crossing from Britain: a vineyard lawn, a cove below Capo Caccia, a hotel garden. Each landing site is cleared with the operator before we quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Outside the summer weeks there is normally an aircraft within a couple of hours of Fertilia, since Sardinia sits inside the busy Mediterranean fleet, and in August operators that have just left passengers on the Costa Smeralda are often looking for a profitable way home.

Business aviation airports in Alghero
Alghero is the main choice for the north-west, but the island has two other jet airports and the best one depends on where you sleep. The table says what each of them gives you and what it does not.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Alghero Fertilia AHO / LIEA |
The airport for the north-west. One asphalt runway, 02/20, 3,000 m long, about 10 km from the old town and 27 m above sea level, with an ILS approach and fire category 7. It opened in the late 1930s as a military airfield, is still listed as a joint civil and military field, and the runway reached its present length in the mid-1970s. Slots and handling are required, and the handler is the operator, SOGEAAL. This is an airline airport that takes business aircraft, not a business airport with a terminal of its own: the operator's site describes no separate general aviation building and the listings name no FBO, so we agree the arrival procedure with the handler beforehand |
| Olbia Costa Smeralda OLB / LIEO |
The airport for the north-east, the Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo, about 140 km from Alghero by road. A 2,745 m runway, 05/23, run by Geasar, with Eccelsa Aviation as the business aviation operator and customs and immigration on site. The peak runs from late June to mid-August, with slot restrictions and handling delays, and night noise abatement applies. A better answer than Alghero for anything on the Costa Smeralda, and a worse one for the north-west |
| Cagliari Elmas CAG / LIEE |
The south, a flight of about 50 minutes in a turboprop from Alghero. A 2,804 m runway, a general aviation terminal open from 8:00 to 20:00 and later on written request, and the handling company SOGAERDYN. It makes sense for a trip that ends in the south, not for one that starts at Fertilia |
Four points settle most Alghero arrivals:
Handling and permission
Handling is mandatory and the listings name the airport operator, SOGEAAL, as the handler. Prior permission is requested from the operator by email, and pilots report that the handler can take 15 to 20 minutes to reach the aircraft, which the crew has to wait for before pushback. An international supervising agent can be added for permits, catering and ground transport. We file the request with the booking.
Hours, border and fuel
The airport is listed as open round the clock, while the airport's own service charter gives the passenger terminal as staffed from 04:00 to midnight and until the last flight lands. Customs and border are listed daily from 08:00 to midnight local time (06:00 to 22:00 UTC in summer and 07:00 to 23:00 UTC in winter) and by prior notice outside those hours, so the handler confirms them for your slot. Jet A-1 comes by truck, listed from 06:00 to 22:00 local time, and pilots report no Avgas.
Passport and the first minutes
Britain is outside Schengen, so a flight from London ends at a border desk before the car. A British passport carries you for 90 days in any 180 without a visa, provided it was issued less than ten years before arrival and has three months left after you leave. The entry system may also ask a first-time visitor for a photograph and fingerprints, which takes a few minutes.
Car and the last miles
The old town is about 10 km from the airport. Sassari is about 30 km and 30 minutes, Stintino about 49 km and 45 minutes, and Bosa about 55 km along the SS292, where midday traffic can build. In July and August the car belongs in the quote from the start, and the address belongs with it.

Border, passport and the way home
Arriving is the simple part: the aircraft parks, the border police look at the passports and the car takes over. The weight of the paperwork sits on the flight home. For the flight into Britain the General Aviation Report must reach the authorities between 48 and 2 hours before departure, passengers pass passport control and customs on landing, and any visitor who is neither British nor Irish and needs no visa still has to hold an electronic travel authorisation. Landing at an aerodrome that is not regulated brings a fine of £2,500, so the crew files the report and names the airfield in it.

From the apron to the bastions
Alghero has about 42,000 residents and is the fifth-largest city in Sardinia. The Doria family of Genoa founded it in the early twelfth century, the Catalans took it in the fourteenth century and rebuilt its defences, and Ferdinand the Catholic added most of the walls that stand today, seven towers and three forts in all, in the sixteenth century. The Catalan dialect, Algherese, has had official recognition since the late 1990s and about a quarter of residents grew up speaking it, which is why locals call the town Barceloneta, little Barcelona. The cathedral was begun in the sixteenth century and consecrated in the eighteenth, with Catalan Gothic work in its presbytery. The coast beyond is the Riviera del Corallo, named for the red coral that also appears on the city's coat of arms.

about 140 km on the SS291, SS131 and SS729, which is why the Costa Smeralda is a different trip1.5 to 2 hours
What private clients do here depends on the weather and on how much they like old stone. Spring and autumn belong to the old town: the walls, the cathedral, the harbour restaurants, a boat to the grotto at Capo Caccia and a morning at the Sella & Mosca estate, which dates from the end of the nineteenth century, runs to about 520 hectares north of the town and offers tours, usually at 11:00 or 15:00, if booked a week ahead. Summer shifts the programme to the water and the beaches. La Pelosa, at Stintino, needs a booking from 15 May to 15 October, is limited to about 1,500 visitors a day and charges a small fee per person, so the beach is a planned part of the itinerary and not a last-minute idea.
The town is warm for most of the year. January highs average about 14 degrees and August highs about 32, with the nights near 20, and the sea stays pleasant well into October. Alghero has been a holiday town since the 1950s and tourism is its main business, with coral working and wine behind it. One hotel, Villa Las Tronas, began in the nineteenth century as a hunting lodge given the look of a castle, and members of the House of Savoy stayed there. What moves a jet to Alghero is mostly leisure: a long weekend, a wedding, a wine trip or a harbour event, in small parties.
Flying to Alghero with a dog or a cat
The paperwork for Italy takes longer than the flight. The animal travels in the cabin beside you, so there is no hold to think about, and the only date that really bites is the one on the health certificate, which lives for ten days.

What Italy asks for:
- A microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination or at the same appointment, and never afterwards;
- A rabies vaccination given at 12 weeks of age or later, followed by a wait of 21 days before the animal enters Italy;
- An Animal Health Certificate signed by an Official Veterinarian within ten days of arrival in the EU, valid for the return as the certificate itself states;
- A limit of five animals per traveller, and entry through a travellers' point of entry, which the handler arranges with the border staff;
- For dogs on the way home, a vet's tapeworm treatment given 24 to 120 hours before landing in Britain and entered with product, date and time. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Alghero run
– The tapeworm treatment belongs to the journey home, so it is a vet visit in Sardinia towards the end of the stay; on a weekend trip the appointment has to be fixed before you leave Britain;
– A GB pet passport does not get a dog into the EU. Every trip needs its own certificate, and a dog whose rabies cover lapses while it is away cannot return on the old paperwork;
– Beaches, boats and restaurants make their own rules about dogs, so name the animal in your first message and let the villa, the car and the boat operator answer before the quote is final. For the return to Britain we put the entry point and the animal's paperwork to you in writing ahead of the flight.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Alghero calendar: Holy Week, Sant Joan and the August crowds
Alghero has two kinds of busy. One is religious and Catalan and falls in March or April, the other is the beach season. They are far apart on the calendar and need different advice, and the first is the one that visitors from Britain tend to miss.
Two peaks, and why they price differently
Holy Week is a matter of dates: the processions cannot be moved, and the hotels in the old town fill around them. August is a matter of volume, when parking space, slots and cars run short at the same moment. Book Holy Week six weeks ahead and it is straightforward. Book a week in the middle of August six days ahead and it can still be done, at a higher price and perhaps with an aircraft brought over from the mainland.
Ways to bring the Alghero price down
- Choose May, June or the second half of September. The weather is already good, the sea is warm in September, and the aircraft and the hotel rooms cost noticeably less than in the middle of summer;
- Name two or three days instead of one. A departure on a Tuesday or a Wednesday finds more aircraft than a Saturday, and the change-over days are the dearest;
- Ask where the jet is based. An aircraft already in Barcelona, Rome or Nice needs less positioning than one coming out of Britain, and on a short sector positioning is a large part of the price;
- Land at the airport that matches the stay. Landing at Fertilia for a Stintino week spares you the 1.5 to 2 hours of road from Olbia, while landing there for a Porto Cervo week adds that same road to the day.
Types of flights
Alghero produces a quieter mix than the Costa Smeralda, with more couples, families and small groups who want a town to walk around.
- Old-town city breaks in spring and autumn, with the walls, the cathedral and the harbour as the programme;
- Holy Week visits for the processions, a Catalan tradition worth planning a whole trip around;
- Beach and villa holidays on the Riviera del Corallo and around Stintino, usually a week or two in July and August;
- Wine and food weekends at the estates north of the town, with a boat day to the grotto;
- Open-jaw trips, arriving at Alghero and departing from Olbia or Cagliari, or the reverse, so that the aircraft is never left waiting;
- Short hops across to Barcelona, Palma and Corsica from a villa base.
A same-day return from London makes sense only for a meeting. With two hours ten minutes each way the working window is short, and the aircraft and crew stay on the ground for you, which is charged. We price the day trip as a round trip and as two separate one-way flights, so that you can see the gap before you decide.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Alghero is a small field on a thin corridor, so empty legs here come in clusters and it helps to know where the clusters are.
Where Alghero empty legs come from
– Rally weekends. When the World Rally Championship is based in the town, aircraft bring teams and spectators in and often leave empty afterwards, and those departures are the ones most often offered;
– Summer repositioning. In July and August a jet that has dropped passengers on the Costa Smeralda may move to Fertilia or to the mainland, and these legs appear at short notice;
– Holy Week and the Sant Joan weekend. Both bring a wave of arrivals on a fixed date, and the return flights home do not always carry anyone.
A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. The trade-off is plain enough: the operator decides the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish if the original booking changes. Whatever is free appears on our empty legs page, and we flag an Alghero match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
Alghero is a town for the water and the cliffs, and a helicopter earns its fee only where the road is slow or absent. The old town is a few minutes from the airport by car, but the cliffs of Capo Caccia, the beaches of Porto Conte and Stintino, and the coast road to Bosa are places where a long drive turns into a short flight.

about 107 km direct against about 140 km by road, for the party that wants both coasts in one dayabout 107 km direct
possible only when the landowner, the operator and the authorities agree the sitesite approval first
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. The Porto Conte park and the island of Asinara, which belongs to a national park, have their own rules on landings, so a site is checked with the authorities before we quote, not afterwards;
– Heat and wind set the timetable. A helicopter lifts less in high summer, so bags are weighed beforehand, and the day needs a road alternative in case the sea breeze hardens;
– A twin-engine machine is the sensible choice for a crossing over water, and in August helicopters are the first resource to sell out. Reserve one with the jet, not after it.
For short coast work the usual choice is the Airbus H125, for villa and vineyard transfers the roomier H130, and where a twin is wanted the H135 or the Bell 429. One timetable covers the jet and the helicopter, because we book both together.

Alghero charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
OLD TOWN · A LONG WEEKEND
Two couples and a hotel inside the walls
London City - Alghero, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 10 min · 4 pax
They wanted the town and nothing else: the walls, a table on the harbour, a boat to the grotto. The aircraft was chosen for the bags and not the seats, the car met them at Fertilia, and the hotel was ten kilometres away. A Sunday evening departure kept the weekend to two nights.
HOLY WEEK · THE FIXED DATES
Four friends for the processions
Manchester - Alghero, Citation Latitude, about 2 h 35 min · 4 pax
The Tuesday procession and the Good Friday night were the point of the trip, and the hotels in the old town were the scarce thing. The booking went in six weeks ahead, and the return was set for Easter Sunday afternoon, after the statues had met in the crowd.
WINE AND A BOAT
Six colleagues and a vineyard day
Farnborough - Alghero, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 20 min · 6 pax
A tasting at an estate north of the town was booked a week ahead, with a boat day to Neptune's Grotto on the second morning. The party carried a few cases home, which is the reason for the midsize cabin rather than a light jet.
RALLY WEEKEND · THE BASE WAS ALGHERO
Spectators and a team for the weekend
Birmingham - Alghero, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 30 min · 8 pax
With the rally centred on the town, landing at Fertilia spared them the road from Olbia. Slots and handling were agreed with the booking, and the party flew home on the Monday morning after the finish.
A DOG ON BOARD
Three adults and a labrador for a June fortnight
Southampton - Alghero, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 10 min · 3 pax + dog
Two dates governed this trip: the health certificate, signed no more than ten days before arrival, and the tapeworm treatment, which a local vet had to give inside the 24 to 120 hours before the flight home. We fixed both alongside the aircraft, and the villa near Stintino agreed to the dog in a single exchange of messages.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING HOME
A jet already going your way
Alghero - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 15 min · 3 pax
The jet had flown guests out for a week and was heading back to England unoccupied. A three-day window, not one fixed date, was what let the client take the seat, at a price well under a new one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Alghero
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Alghero?
A Phenom 300E needs about 2 hours 10 minutes from Biggin Hill, London City or Southampton and 2 hours 15 minutes from Farnborough or Luton, on sectors of 757 to 794 nautical miles. Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham add 15 to 20 minutes in a Citation XLS+, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle come to 2 hours 35 to 2 hours 45, and Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow to 2 hours 50 to 2 hours 55. Local time in Sardinia is an hour ahead of Britain.
2How much does a private jet to Alghero cost?
The entry price is £10,550 one way for a Phenom 300E from Biggin Hill, rising to £11,000 from Luton. Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham are priced on a Citation XLS+ at £14,000 to £14,450, and Belfast and Scotland on a Challenger 350 at £21,500 to £22,100. July and August, and the days around Easter, cost more than these figures.
3Should I land at Alghero or at Olbia?
Alghero (AHO / LIEA) for the north-west: the old town, Capo Caccia, Porto Conte, Stintino and Bosa. Olbia (OLB / LIEO) for the Costa Smeralda and Porto Cervo. The two are about 107 km apart by air and around 140 km by road, which is 1.5 to 2 hours, so landing at the wrong one costs a morning each way.
4Can a private jet land at Alghero at night?
Fertilia is listed as a 24-hour airport, so a late arrival is not ruled out, but slots are required, handling is compulsory and the border and customs desks are listed daily from 08:00 to midnight local time, with prior notice needed outside those hours. We therefore ask the handler to confirm the times for your arrival in writing, and for an evening or night landing the notice goes in with the booking.
5When should I book a private jet to Alghero?
Off-peak, two or three days is normally enough. For July and August, and for Holy Week in March or April, allow several weeks, because the old town fills, slots tighten and the hire cars disappear together. If you plan to visit La Pelosa beach, remember it needs a booking from 15 May to 15 October.
6Can I take my dog to Alghero on a private jet?
Yes, and it stays in the cabin beside you. Italy wants the microchip in place before the rabies vaccination, the vaccination given at 12 weeks of age or later and at least 21 days before entry, and a fresh Animal Health Certificate dated within ten days of arrival. Coming home, a dog must have a vet's tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before it lands in Britain. Cats do not need one.
