Private jet charter in Sicily
About a thousand nautical miles south of a London runway lies the biggest island in the Mediterranean, and a booking here starts with a question that Paris or Milan never ask: which part of Sicily, and therefore which airport? Private Jets UK arranges the charter around that answer. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Palermo serves the capital and the north coast, Catania the east with Etna, Taormina and Syracuse, Trapani the far west and Comiso the south-east. They are hours apart by road, and the choice of the wrong one costs a day. The rest of the planning is the date, the cabin and the last stretch, whether that is a car, a boat or a helicopter.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Sicily depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Phenom 300E and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Sicily?
Allow about two hours forty from the south of England, and three and a half from Scotland. Sicily keeps Central European time, one hour ahead of Britain. At 1,002 to 1,410 nautical miles this is the far end of the short-haul range, so many clients move to a midsize cabin at the first quote. The table gives both sectors, to Palermo and to Catania, from each British field we use. Catania is about 89 nautical miles further on, which adds roughly 10 to 15 minutes in the air.

Where you land decides the day
The flight is the short part. Falcone Borsellino airport at Cinisi is about 35 km from Palermo, and a taxi takes around 30 minutes. Catania airport is only 4 km from the city, so a party on its way to Taormina (67 km, 45 to 55 minutes by road) or Syracuse (about an hour) is at its hotel before lunch. The same Taormina trip from Palermo is some 270 km and two and a half to three hours by car. Trapani Birgi lies within about 4 nautical miles of the Palermo distance from every British field in the tables, so a quote to it comes out at a similar price.
Light jet or midsize on the Sicily run
– Light jets can reach Sicily from the London fields, but with full seats and bags the margin is thin, and the load decides whether the quote works. For two or three people with ordinary luggage we price a Phenom 300E beside the midsize alternative, so you see both figures;
– From four people upward, with golf bags, a family or an onward leg to Malta or the Aeolian islands, a midsize cabin such as the Citation XLS+ is where we begin;
– Heavy aircraft earn their cost when a large party stays together for several Italian stops, or when Sicily is only the first leg of a longer trip to the Gulf or Africa.

Why an island needs a plan for the ground
Palermo and Catania are 107 nautical miles apart, 50 minutes in a PC-12, yet by road the island is wide enough that landing in one and leaving from the other saves a whole day. That is the most common structure we sell here: in at Palermo, out at Catania, or the other way. Comiso lies 37 nautical miles south-east of Catania and serves Ragusa and the baroque towns of the south-east. Pantelleria (102 nautical miles from Palermo) and Lampedusa (169) are separate airfields with their own opening hours and handling, so each hop is agreed with the handler before the quote. Malta (105 nautical miles from Catania) and Tunis (165 from Palermo) are international sectors, with arrival formalities settled in advance.
Before you accept an onward quote from Sicily
– Which airport you really mean. Palermo and Catania are coordinated, so slots are required and handling is mandatory, while Comiso and Trapani are quieter and need less notice. A quote that does not name the field will change;
– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Palermo, Catania and Malta over a long weekend is cheaper as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of repositioning between every stop;
– Whether the date falls in the weeks that cluster demand. Late July and August are the busiest months and the shoulder seasons either side are calmer.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Sicily:
Light jets, for a lighter party
At close to three hours these suit two or three people with modest luggage. The range is there, but the margin is thinner than on a Paris or Milan run, so we check the load first and quote a midsize cabin alongside.
Midsize, where most Sicily bookings land
Four to eight people, golf bags or beach kit, and a long weekend of luggage. It is the class that fits the sector without paying for range you will not use.
Super-midsize and large
For a family or delegation travelling as one party, for a team that works in the air, and for trips that carry on from the island to the Gulf or West Africa rather than turning round.
Turboprops
The right aircraft inside Sicily and out to the small islands: Palermo to Catania, to Comiso or to Pantelleria is under an hour, and the saving over a jet on that distance is large.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: Taormina, the Aeolian islands, a villa with no runway or a yacht at anchor. The landing site is cleared before we quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Sicily sits at the southern edge of the European charter fleet, which cuts two ways. Aircraft are plentiful in Rome, Naples and Malta, a short positioning hop away, but a jet based in Britain flies the long sector twice on a one-way booking, and that is why a flexible date often saves more than a smaller cabin.

Business aviation airports in Sicily
Four airports carry private traffic on the main island and two more serve the islands off it. Which one fits depends on where you sleep, so it helps to know them before a quote arrives with one of them in it.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Palermo, Falcone Borsellino (Punta Raisi) PMO / LICJ |
The capital and the north coast. The airport sits at Cinisi, about 35 km west-north-west of the city, with two runways: 07/25 of 3,326 m and 02/20 of 2,068 m. GESAP, the managing company, runs a lounge in the main terminal where Fly Service works, and Universal Aviation supports crews through local agents. Customs is available and the airport is an airport of entry. Handling is mandatory and slots are required. Directories give different opening hours, from 24 hours to 05:00 to 23:00, so we confirm before a late arrival |
| Catania, Fontanarossa (Vincenzo Bellini) CTA / LICC |
The busiest airport on the island and the gateway for Etna, Taormina and Syracuse. It lies about 4 km south-west of the city, with one runway, 08/26, of about 2.5 km (directories give 2,436 and 2,560 m). Customs is available, handling is mandatory and slots are required. Fly Service is listed as the handler. Ash from Etna sometimes closes the airport for a spell, and in that case a flight is usually moved to Palermo |
| Trapani, Birgi (Vincenzo Florio) TPS / LICT |
The western field, about 15 km south of Trapani, with a runway of 2,695 m. Dual use: the Italian Air Force 37th Wing is based here, and civil traffic is run by Airgest. Customs is available, handling by Fly Service is listed and slots are listed as not required. Published hours are a weekday window, so weekend arrivals are agreed in advance. Scheduled flights link it to Pantelleria and Lampedusa |
| Comiso, Pio La Torre CIY / LICB |
The south-east field, a former air base turned civil, with a runway of about 2,540 m and an instrument approach. It lies about 5 km from Comiso and 15 km from Ragusa. Customs is available and the airport is an airport of entry; handling is not mandatory and slots are not required. Aviapartner Italy and Sky Services appear in different directories. Hours are given as a 06:00 to 22:00 UTC window by one source and as 24 hours with notice by another, so we ask |
| Pantelleria PNL / LICG |
An island field 5 km from the town, with runways of 1,675 and 1,220 m. A military airport until it became a state-owned civilian one, with an Air Force detachment still on site. Scheduled flights connect it to Catania, Palermo and Trapani |
| Lampedusa LMP / LICD |
The only airport on the island, with a runway of about 1,800 m. One directory gives opening hours of 04:00 to 20:00 and no round-the-clock handling, so an evening return needs planning. A summer extension to a Sicily trip, not a stop to take lightly on a tight schedule |
Four points settle most Sicilian arrivals:
Pick the airport by the bed
Palermo for the capital and the north coast, Catania for Etna, Taormina and Syracuse, Trapani for the far west, Comiso for Ragusa and the south-east. A wrong pick turns a one-hour transfer into a three-hour one. We ask where you sleep before we ask where you land.
When Etna closes Catania
Ash from the volcano sometimes closes Catania for a spell, usually a day or less, though a longer closure is possible. A jet is then usually moved to Palermo and the party finishes the trip by car. We agree the fallback field before the day, so it is a call to the driver and not a new booking.
Border and passport
Italy is in Schengen and Britain is not, so passengers arriving from Britain pass passport control as well as customs. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, and the passport should typically be under ten years old with at least three months left.
Slots, hours and handlers
Palermo and Catania are coordinated with slots required and handling mandatory. Trapani and Comiso ask less, but their published hours are narrower or vary by source. Directories name Fly Service for the first three and Aviapartner or Sky Services for Comiso. Late and early movements are confirmed in writing first.

Border, passport and the way home
A flight from Britain to Sicily is an arrival from outside Schengen, so the passengers show their passports and clear customs at the first Sicilian airport: Palermo, Catania, Trapani and Comiso are all airports of entry. For the small islands, we confirm whether the formalities can be done on the spot or are completed at the first field on the main island. The flight back lands in Britain as a foreign flight, so the party goes through passport control and customs at the British airfield, and we file the General Aviation Report between 48 hours and 2 hours before departure. Landing first at an aerodrome that is not set up for customs risks a £2,500 fine, plus £2,000 for each passenger without permission, which is why the British field is fixed in the quote. Visitors who need no visa for Britain but are not British or Irish citizens also need an ETA before they fly.

From the apron to the island
Sicily is large, mountainous in the middle and slow by road, so the useful numbers are the transfers. The table below gives the ones we are asked about most often.
67 km, which is why Taormina clients land at Catania45 to 55 minutes
about 64 km by motorway, with a bus that takes 75 to 90 minutesabout 1 hour
about 150 km by motorway; the crossing to Lipari then takes 50 to 60 minutesabout 1 h 45 min
about 35 km along the coast, with a rail service into the centreabout 30 to 40 minutes
about 270 km, along the coast or through the Madonie mountains2.5 to 3 hours
107 nautical miles in a straight line, an easy turboprop hopabout 50 min
Flying to Sicily with a dog or a cat
Animals do well on this flight. They sit beside you in the cabin, the sector is long enough for most to sleep, and there is no hold, no cargo queue and no separate check-in. The paperwork is what takes the time. Two dates decide the trip: the day the Animal Health Certificate is issued, because it counts ten days for entry to the EU, and the tapeworm appointment for a dog, which falls in Sicily and not at home.

What Italy asks for:
- A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time, never after it;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before entry;
- An Animal Health Certificate issued for this trip, valid for ten days for entry to the EU and for the return to Britain as stated on the certificate;
- No more than five animals per traveller, entering through a travellers' point of entry, which we confirm in writing together with the paperwork before the flight;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before the flight back to Britain, recorded with product, date and time. Cats are exempt. Italy does not ask for tapeworm treatment on the way in.
What catches owners out on an island trip
– The vet. A villa near Ragusa, a hotel on the slopes of Etna or a house on a small island may be an hour or more from a practice, and the tapeworm treatment has to fall inside a 96-hour window before the flight home. Book the appointment when you book the flight, and ask the hotel for a vet who works on Sundays;
– A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales cannot be used to enter the EU, so each trip needs a new certificate, and an animal whose rabies vaccination lapses during the stay cannot come home on it;
– Boats, hotels and helicopters set their own animal rules. A hydrofoil to the Aeolian islands, a rented villa or a helicopter operator may refuse a dog that the jet was happy to carry, so ask before the quote.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Sicilian calendar: saints, theatres and a long summer
The island has two rhythms. The cultural year runs from the Catania saint's feast in February through Holy Week and the classical theatre season to the Palermo festival in July, and the beach year peaks in July and August. A clear idea of the week you want decides more than the aircraft does.
Why the peaks cost more
Not the flying. Aircraft positioned from Rome, Naples or Malta are close, and the Sicilian fleet is not thin. What gets tight in late July and August is the slot at a coordinated airport, the handler, the cars and the helicopter, all in the same days. A booking made a fortnight before the Festino can still be done, but it pays more, and the aircraft may come from another country. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. From October to May an island charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Sicily price down
- Move the dates by a few days. The shoulder months, April to June and September to October, are calmer and cheaper than July and August;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Rome, Naples or Malta takes far less positioning than one from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a large share of the bill;
- Fly into one airport and out of another when the plan allows it. A triangle such as Palermo in and Catania out saves a day on the road and costs only the crew's wait;
- Check the hotel before the airport. If the base is Taormina, Catania wins; if it is the north coast, Palermo does.
Types of flights
Sicily brings a mixture that no single city does: a capital, a volcano, two coasts, a baroque south-east and a string of islands, all with different reasons to fly.
- Holiday parties for the Taormina, Etna and Syracuse side, usually arriving at Catania with a villa or hotel booked;
- Business and institutional travel to Palermo, where the dates are fixed by meetings;
- Event and festival weekends: the Catania feast, the Syracuse theatre, the Taormina film week, the Festino and the couscous festival;
- Yacht and sailing trips, with crew changes and owners joining boats at harbours on all coasts;
- Island hops to Pantelleria and Lampedusa, and jet-plus-helicopter transfers to the Aeolian islands;
- Multi-stop loops that combine Sicily with Malta, Naples, Rome or Sardinia in one booking.
A same-day return from London is possible and not recommended. Close to three hours each way leaves little time on the ground, and the island rewards a night or two. If a day trip is the only option, we quote it both ways so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Sicily generates them in a particular pattern, and it helps to know where they come from.
Where Sicilian empty legs come from
– Summer positioning. Operators send aircraft south for the island and yacht season, and the same aircraft often come back empty on a Sunday or Monday, which produces northbound legs;
– Festival and event weeks. A party that flies in for the Festino, the Syracuse season or the film week leaves an aircraft that often goes home empty a day later;
– Two-airport trips. A jet that brings clients in at Palermo and collects another party at Catania repositions across the island empty, and the short Sicilian hop is the cheapest leg on offer.
The Sicily corridor is thinner than the busiest London routes, so a client who can name a few days has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. The price you pay for the saving is the usual one: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can disappear if the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Sicily match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
On an island with a volcano, a coast and a string of small islands, the helicopter is more than a luxury. It is the quickest way to cover the stretch that the jet cannot reach, and in Sicily there are three good reasons to use one.
sightseeing and transfer flights are sold from a helipad near Taormina, with up to five passengers and a route that can pass over Etnaon request
67 km and 45 to 55 minutes by road, which a helicopter cuts sharplyon request
270 km and 2.5 to 3 hours by road, the transfer where a helicopter earns its feeon request
a local operator flies charters to any of the islands from Catania, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Lamezia Terme and Naples, and a scheduled service runs from Reggio Calabria on certain dayson request
a site cleared in advance, with the landing permission checked before the quoteon request
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A landing outside an aerodrome needs a site that is cleared for it, so a villa lawn, a hotel terrace or a yacht deck has to be confirmed before we quote and not after;
– Wind and heat set the schedule in the Mediterranean summer. A gusty day can stop a helicopter when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road or hydrofoil alternative in the same day. The hydrofoil from Milazzo to Lipari runs every one to two hours in season and takes 50 to 60 minutes;
– Over the sea a twin-engine machine is the sensible minimum. For the July festival and the August weekends, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to hear that there is no rotary capacity.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for hill and coastal work, the wider H130 for scenic and villa transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet, so that both crews work to one timetable.

Sicily charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
JUNE · TAORMINA FILM WEEK
Hotel in Taormina, aircraft in Catania
Biggin Hill - Catania, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 55 min · 5 pax
The party wanted the festival evenings in the ancient theatre and a hotel in town. Catania is 67 km from Taormina, so that was the only airport in the quote, and the car was waiting at the aircraft door. Landing at Palermo would have added a drive of some 270 km.
AEOLIAN ISLANDS · JET PLUS HELICOPTER
Six passengers who did not want the hydrofoil
Farnborough - Catania, Citation XLS+, about 3 h · 6 pax
They landed in Catania and flew on by helicopter to a villa on one of the islands, which removed the drive of about 150 km to Milazzo and the crossing after it. The landing site was cleared before the quote, and a boat transfer was kept as the fallback for a windy afternoon.
A MORNING WHEN ETNA CLOSED THE FIELD
Catania was the plan, Palermo the answer
London Luton - Catania, redirected to Palermo, Phenom 300E · 3 pax
Ash from the volcano closed the Catania runway on the day. Because the fallback airport had been agreed in advance, the aircraft was redirected to Palermo and the driver had already been told. The party finished the journey by road and lost a morning and not a day.
A DOG ON BOARD · THE SOUTH-EAST
Two adults and a spaniel for a week near Ragusa
Bristol - Comiso, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 10 min · 2 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. The villa was an hour from a vet, so the appointment was booked with the departure slot on the first day.
SUMMER ISLAND HOP
A weekend on Lampedusa
Palermo - Lampedusa, Citation CJ3+, about 50 min · 5 pax
The party had come to Sicily on a larger aircraft and wanted a weekend on the island. The crew stayed in Palermo and a light jet made the hop. One directory lists the island field as open from 04:00 to 20:00 with no round-the-clock handling, so the handler was told the times in writing and the return was planned for the afternoon and not the evening.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING NORTH
A jet already going your way
Catania - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 55 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Sicily
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Sicily?
About 2 hours 40 minutes to Palermo from Biggin Hill or Luton in a Phenom 300E, covering roughly 1,002 to 1,038 nautical miles, and about 2 hours 50 minutes to Catania. From Birmingham, Bristol or Cardiff allow about 2 hours 55 minutes to Palermo, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 3 hours 20 minutes. Sicily is one hour ahead of Britain.
2How much does a private jet to Sicily cost?
From about £13,400 one way to Palermo on a Phenom 300E out of Biggin Hill, and £14,450 to Catania. From Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham or Manchester a midsize Citation XLS+ runs £17,700 to £18,800 to Palermo, and from Scotland allow £26,000 to £26,350. July, August and the festival weeks price above these figures.
3Which Sicilian airport should a private jet use?
Palermo (PMO / LICJ) for the capital and the north coast, about 35 km from the city. Catania (CTA / LICC) for Etna, Taormina and Syracuse, about 4 km from the city and 67 km from Taormina. Trapani (TPS / LICT) for the far west and Comiso (CIY / LICB) for Ragusa and the south-east. Palermo and Catania require slots and mandatory handling, and Palermo is 107 nautical miles from Catania.
4When should I book a private jet to Sicily?
Outside the peaks a day or two is usually enough. For the Festino in the middle of July, the weekends of July and August and the September couscous festival, allow four to six weeks. Slots, handlers, cars and helicopters all get tight in the same days, and a late booking tends to pay more for an aircraft positioned from another country.
5What happens if Etna closes Catania airport?
Ash from the volcano sometimes closes Catania for a spell, usually a day or less. We agree the fallback in advance, normally Palermo, so that the aircraft diverts and a car is waiting. The party then finishes the journey by road, and the charter itself is not cancelled.
6Can I take my dog to Sicily on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Italy asks for a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old and an Animal Health Certificate issued for the trip and valid for ten days for entry. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
