Private jet charter in Mauritius

From a London airfield Mauritius is about 11 hours 40 minutes away in a long-range jet that does not stop and about 14 hours 40 minutes in a super-midsize one, and that gap, a fuel stop in the Gulf, decides the aircraft, the price and the hour you arrive. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Mauritius that means a landing permit and overflight clearances for every state on the route, a place for the aircraft at the private terminal in Plaine Magnien, a handler named before departure, and a plan for the last 30 to 50 kilometres to the hotel, which on this island is a car, a boat or a helicopter.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Mauritius depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Stansted, an Embraer Praetor 600 flying to Mauritius with one technical stop in Dubai and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Mauritius?

Mauritius keeps UTC+4 all year, which makes it four hours ahead of London in winter and three hours ahead while Britain is on summer time. An evening departure therefore lands the next day, around lunchtime in a long-range jet that does not stop and in the afternoon in an aircraft that does. These are the sectors, gate to gate, from the airfields our clients use most. The first list is the Praetor 600 with its hour on the ground in Dubai:

London Stansted to Mauritius
5,922 nautical miles in two legs, the base for the price quoted at the top of the page
about 14 h 40 min
Biggin Hill to Mauritius
5,923 nautical miles in two legs, the closest of the London fields to Kent and south London
about 14 h 40 min
Farnborough to Mauritius
5,954 nautical miles in two legs, the usual field for Surrey, Hampshire and the Thames Valley
about 14 h 45 min
London Luton to Mauritius
5,945 nautical miles in two legs, the choice for north London, Hertfordshire and the Midlands
about 14 h 45 min
Birmingham to Mauritius
6,003 nautical miles in two legs, the main airport of the Midlands
about 14 h 50 min
Manchester to Mauritius
6,032 nautical miles in two legs, the departure for the north-west of England
about 14 h 55 min
Edinburgh to Mauritius
6,101 nautical miles in two legs, the main Scottish departure, a few hundred nautical miles further than London
about 15 h 05 min

The same journeys without the stop need an aircraft that can cross the Indian Ocean in one go. Sectors on a Global 6000, nonstop:

London Stansted to Mauritius
5,489 nautical miles, the same departure airfield as the price on this page
about 11 h 40 min
Manchester to Mauritius
5,620 nautical miles, the north-west of England
about 12 h
Edinburgh to Mauritius
5,746 nautical miles, the long end of the British map
about 12 h 15 min

The distance settles the aircraft before the budget does

The direct line from London Stansted to Mauritius is 5,489 nautical miles once the routing allowance is added. A Praetor 600 is published at about 4,000 nautical miles, so it cannot make that in one go, and it flies London to Dubai (3,066 nautical miles) and Dubai to Mauritius (2,856). Both legs sit comfortably inside its range, which is why this is the aircraft behind the title price. The detour costs only 433 nautical miles against the straight line, but about 2 h on the clock once the hour on the ground and the slower aircraft are counted.

A Global 6000, published at about 6,170 nautical miles, has roughly 681 nautical miles in hand over the outbound sector, which is a workable margin with a normal cabin load. The way home can meet stronger headwinds, and a planner may ask for a stop even when the outbound sector was nonstop. A Gulfstream G650ER and a Global 7500, published at about 7,500 and 7,700 nautical miles, carry that margin with room to spare. A Challenger 350, at about 3,200 nautical miles, needs a second stop, and lighter jets need more stops than we sell.

The line to Mauritius runs south-east over the Mediterranean and the Middle East and then out over the Indian Ocean. The operator's flight planners choose the route and obtain an overflight permission for each state along it.

The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures

– The departure airfield moves the price by a few thousand pounds, not by tens of thousands. Manchester costs about £1,700 more than Stansted on the same aircraft and Edinburgh about £2,700 more, and each hundred nautical miles adds roughly £1,500 on a Praetor 600;

– A one-way price assumes the aircraft flies back empty. For a return trip the aircraft either waits on the island, with parking and crew accommodation as lines of their own, or flies home and comes back for you, and on a sector this long that second option costs close to a second charter.

For a larger cabin, a longer wait on the island or a wish to skip the stop, the same departure on bigger aircraft looks like this. The jets that fly the sector nonstop are priced from London Stansted too:

Why the title shows the stop

The lowest figure on this page is a Praetor 600 with a stop in Dubai, £91,850. A Global 6000 flying nonstop from the same airfield costs £147,850, which is £56,000 more. That sum buys 3 h of the day back, a thirteen-seat cabin in place of nine, and enough hold for the clubs and the diving kit. For two or four passengers the Praetor is the sensible choice; a family with luggage may find the extra money well spent.

Private jet flights within Mauritius and to its neighbours

Mauritius has one international airport and, for practical purposes, no domestic network for a jet: the main island covers less than 1,900 square kilometres. The useful sectors are the ones that leave it, to Rodrigues, Réunion, the Seychelles, Madagascar and the African mainland. These sectors start at Mauritius, and Dubai is included as the first stop on the way home:

Two things worth knowing about the sectors from Mauritius

– Rodrigues, about 300 nautical miles east of the main island, has a runway of about 1,290 metres. We plan it for a turboprop or a light jet and not for the aircraft that flew in from London, which waits at Plaine Magnien;

– Réunion, the French island to the south-west, is the shortest international hop from Mauritius, about 130 nautical miles on our planning figures. Entry formalities there follow French rules for an overseas department, and we confirm them for your passports before we quote.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h
Long-haul jet (Global 5000, G550, Falcon 7X)£5,800 - 8,800/h
Business linersfrom £10,300/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Mauritius:

Turboprops and light jets

The class for the hops once you are in the Indian Ocean: Rodrigues, Réunion, a neighbouring island. The Pilatus PC-12 NGX takes up to nine on those sectors. From London these jets would need three or four stops to reach Mauritius, and we do not sell that trip.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h

Super-midsize

The smallest class that makes London to Mauritius in two legs, and the one our title price is built on. A Challenger 350 needs a second technical stop on top of Dubai.

Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h
Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h

Large cabin

For a family with a long stay ahead or a party with staff and room to rest on a journey of nearly fifteen hours with the stop. These aircraft also fly the two legs through Dubai, and the larger cabin makes the day easier to bear.

Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Embraer Legacy 650 · 13 seatsfrom £4,600/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Ultra-long range

The class that flies London to Mauritius without a stop, with the margin to do it with a full cabin. For a party of ten or more, or for a trip that values arrival over price.

Dassault Falcon 900LX · 12 seatsfrom £5,400/h
Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom £6,400/h
Gulfstream G550 · 16 seatsfrom £6,700/h
Gulfstream G650ER · 14 seatsfrom £7,700/h
Bombardier Global 7500 · 14 seatsfrom £8,300/h

Business aviation airports in Mauritius

One airport does all the work, and the useful questions are about what happens on the ground there and what stands on either side of the flight:

Airport Ground How it operates
Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International
MRU / FIMP
Plaine Magnien on the south-east side of the island, about 48 km from Port Louis, at 57 metres above sea level The only international airport of the country and the only choice for a jet from Britain. One asphalt runway, 14/32, of 3,370 metres by 45, lit, with the threshold of runway 14 displaced by 330 metres. Customs and immigration on site. The tower is listed as staffed round the clock, while some handler records list office hours of 04:45 to 12:00 UTC on weekdays, so a night or weekend arrival is agreed in advance
Rodrigues Sir Gaetan Duval
RRG / FIMR
Island of Rodrigues, about 300 nautical miles east of the main island, at 28 metres A single asphalt runway, 12/30, of about 1,290 metres. Air Mauritius serves it from the main island. A field for turboprops and light jets, not for a large aircraft from London, and we confirm customs and handling for a private aircraft before we quote
Réunion Roland Garros
RUN / FMEE
French island about 130 nautical miles south-west of Mauritius The nearest large airport outside Mauritius. It belongs to a different state, so a flight there is an international sector with its own handler, permit and formalities, agreed separately
Dubai
DXB / OMDB
The Gulf, 3,070 nautical miles from London Stansted and 2,860 from Mauritius The usual technical stop for a super-midsize jet. We plan about an hour on the ground for fuel, and the flight times above already include it. The handler and the airfield in Dubai are named in the quote
Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta
NBO / HKJK
East Africa, 1,740 nautical miles from Mauritius The alternative stop for a large-cabin aircraft when the Gulf is crowded or a slot is missing. Open round the clock, with customs, and slot coordinated with compulsory handling on its record. The leg from London is about 3,800 nautical miles, which is why the Praetor does not use it

Plaine Magnien has a runway long enough for any business jet. Private aircraft use a separate apron and terminal. The private terminal is run by Jet Prime, part of the Airport Holdings group and, according to a trade magazine, the only member of the Air Elite network in the Indian Ocean. It offers ground handling, hangar space, flight planning, overflight and landing clearances and full onboard catering. Immigration, customs and health formalities are completed inside the lounge. An older trade article describes the general aviation terminal of the time with a hangar of about 2,000 square metres, big enough for two Global Express or four Falcon 900 aircraft, and names Air Mauritius as the main ground handler. We name the handler we use in the quote.

Records say private and business jets need no slot at the airport, and a handler that offers airport slot arrangement lists it as an optional extra. We still confirm parking and the stand for the dates in writing. Jet A1 and Avgas are listed, with three fuel suppliers named in the older article, and international fuel cards are accepted.

Rodrigues is for turboprops and light jets. An older trade article says its runway cannot take airliners or large business jets, and we plan it only for the smaller aircraft.

Four points settle most arrivals before a quote goes out:

Landing permit: 72 hours

A landing permit is needed for every flight, including a private one. The civil aviation authority of Mauritius issues it, and an older article puts the deadline for a business charter application at 72 hours before the flight. Permit specialists quote 24 to 48 working hours for a complete file, so we plan on the longer figure.

Overflight permit

A foreign operator needs prior clearance to enter Mauritian airspace. A permit is normally valid for 72 hours from the schedule requested, and a change of timing, route or registration needs the permit revised before the flight.

The papers

The application carries the aircraft registration and type, the operator, the schedule in UTC, the route with the entry and exit points, and the purpose of the flight. The aircraft needs its certificates of registration and airworthiness and its insurance. A charter aircraft adds the air operator certificate, which a private aircraft does not need.

Crew and cargo on board

Crew are admitted on the general declaration, with visas given on arrival that are typically valid for up to 72 hours. Firearms and ammunition must be named in the permit request. Any dangerous goods are declared in advance.

Arriving from Britain: passports, the travel form and customs

Mauritius is far outside Schengen and asks nothing as heavy as a visa from a British visitor. These are the points that decide whether the party passes through in minutes:

Passports
valid for the whole stay, with at least one blank page; a dual national returning to Britain must carry a British passport or a certificate of entitlement
every passenger, children included
Visa
British citizens visit without a visa for up to 60 days, and border officers stamp the end date; proof of onward or return travel is asked for, and a stay for work, study or business needs the Mauritian entry conditions for that purpose
none for a visit
Travel form
the British government points visitors to the Mauritius All in One travel form, to be completed online before arrival and shown at the airport with its QR code; without it, an immigration card is filled in on arrival
online before the flight
Health
a yellow fever certificate is needed from travellers over one year old who arrive from an infected area, which matters if the technical stop is in East Africa; passengers who have come from Réunion may be asked about their health and where they have travelled
check the stop country
Customs
anything that may be prohibited or taxable must be declared, and Mauritius has strict rules on what comes in; drug offences, including during transit, carry severe penalties
the Mauritius Revenue Authority lists the goods

Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation. Most other nationalities do.

Read the travel advice before you book

The British government publishes advice for Mauritius and updates it when the situation changes. Its pages have carried updates on local demonstrations and community unrest, with road closures, disruption to transport and temporary curfews over most of the main island, and advise visitors to stay away from demonstrations and large public gatherings. Most crime is non-violent, and petty crime is common in Port Louis, Grand Baie and Flic en Flac.

We read the advice against your itinerary before we quote and again close to departure. A flight is confirmed only when the operator holds the route, the permissions and the insurance cover in writing, and travelling against the advice can invalidate travel insurance. If a curfew or a closure affects the airport or the road, the practical answer is a change of arrival time or a helicopter transfer, which we price on request.

Which part of the island, and how to get there from the apron

Mauritius has one airport and a coastline all the way round it, so the useful question is where the party sleeps and how far that is from Plaine Magnien, which stands in the south-east:

Port Louis: the capital and the business district
about 48 km from the airport and typically 30 to 45 minutes by road; the island's stock exchange opened in the late 1980s and its freeport in the early 1990s
by car, or about 20 minutes by helicopter
The east coast: Belle Mare, Trou d'Eau Douce, Beau Champ
the near side of the island, with resorts about 35 km and 45 minutes from the airport by road; one resort with its own helipad quotes 15 to 20 minutes by helicopter
by car, or about 15 minutes by helicopter
Le Morne and the south-west
the peninsula in the south-west corner, on the far side of the island from the airport; our estimate is a drive of about an hour, and about 20 minutes in a helicopter
by helicopter, if the weather allows
Grand Baie and the north
the north coast around Grand Baie is a lively resort area; by road it is further than the east coast and typically more than an hour, and about 20 minutes by helicopter
by helicopter or by car
Rodrigues
the small island 300 nautical miles to the east, with its own airport and a much quieter pace; reached by a flight from the main island
a turboprop from Plaine Magnien

Resorts, golf and the Indian Ocean loop: what our clients go for

Most of the traffic is leisure, and the choice of coast follows the season, the wind and the budget. The east coast suits watersports in summer, the south and east can be windy in winter, and the north and west are more sheltered then and hotter and more humid in summer. The jet lands at Plaine Magnien, and a car or a helicopter takes the party to the coast.

Golf and the sea come next. Professional tournaments are played on the island's courses in November and December, diving is rated best from November to April and deep-sea fishing from October to April, and the dates of the trip follow them.

The third reason is the loop. Mauritius sits in the south-west Indian Ocean, a short hop from Réunion, a few hours from the Seychelles and Madagascar and not much further from the African mainland, and clients combine two or three of them in one charter. A week on Mauritius, a week in the Seychelles and the flight home from there can run on one aircraft and one crew. Business is the smaller share, and mostly a short visit to Port Louis.

Cyclone season and the dry winter

Mauritius has two seasons and a gap of only about four degrees between them. What changes is humidity, wind and the risk of a storm:

November to April
the warm, humid summer, with a mean of about 24.7 degrees; January and February are the warmest months, with daytime highs near 29 degrees, and the summer carries most of the year's rain
hot, humid, wet
January to March
the months when tropical cyclones usually occur; a cyclone typically disrupts the weather for about three days and brings heavy rain
highest storm risk
November to May
the period the British government gives for the tropical cyclone season; outside it the risk is lower but not necessarily zero
official cyclone season
June to September
the dry, cooler winter, with a mean of about 20.4 degrees and the coolest nights, down to about 16 degrees, in July and August; the south and east can be windy, and surfing is rated best from June to August
dry and cool

A cyclone closes more than a runway

The British government warns that cyclones can cause extensive damage, and that during one you are not allowed to leave your accommodation. For a private flight the lesson is to leave a margin of a day at either end in the cyclone months. We also ask the operator to agree in writing what happens to the aircraft and the crew if a cyclone warning is issued while the jet is on the ground.

The Mauritian calendar: festivals, golf and Christmas

A handful of dates shape the demand for rooms and aircraft:

January to February
Thaipoosam Cavadee, the Tamil festival of fasting and processions, is generally held in January or February, and the Chinese Spring Festival in late January or early February brings lion dances to Chinatown in Port Louis
February to March
Maha Shivaratree, the pilgrimage on foot by Hindu devotees to the lake of Grand Bassin, is a major event of the year, and visitors may join the walk. National Day, on 12 March, marks independence with parades in Port Louis
April
The Chinatown Food Festival, a two-day event in Port Louis with pedestrianised streets, and Easter, which falls in March or April
May to September
The quiet low season for hotels. Trail races include the Royal Raid in May, the Ultra Trail and the Mauritius Marathon in July and the Ferney Trail in September
October to November
Divali, the Hindu festival of light, lights the island in October or November, and a professional golf tournament is played in November, alternating between two courses
November to December
The Kreol International Festival, nearly a week of concerts, poetry, theatre and Creole food, falls in late November or early December
Late December
Christmas, the peak season for hotels. Families fly at the same time, and the supply of aircraft and of the best rooms is at its tightest

What a season does to a flight plan

The Christmas weeks, which one guide calls the peak for hotels, tighten the supply of aircraft and of rooms. A booking made six to eight weeks before the peak is simpler than one made in the last week, and a firm date helps us find the best price on an aircraft that has a long way to travel.

Flying to Mauritius with a dog or a cat

Mauritius is a demanding destination for a pet, and the difficulty is on the way in, not on the way home. The island asks for an import permit, a rabies antibody test, extra blood tests for a dog and a stay in quarantine, so the paperwork starts months before the flight and the aircraft is the easy part.

The one fact to read before you book

The published conditions for dogs say that an import permit is applied for from the Livestock and Veterinary Division of the Mauritian ministry of agriculture, at least 45 days before departure, and another guide advises three to six months. Every dog needs a microchip that is scanned when the blood sample for the rabies antibody test is taken, a rabies antibody result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an approved laboratory, a wait of about three months after the sample, a negative test for ehrlichiosis within 45 days of departure, a negative test for Brucella canis, current vaccinations against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus, and a health certificate endorsed by the exporting government. Dogs and cats must be neutered and not pregnant. A dog spends time in quarantine at Réduit, and the period, from 5 days to one month, depends on the rabies status of the country it comes from at the time the permit is issued.

Several breeds are prohibited, among them the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino, the Fila Brasileiro and the Boerboel, and a second list that includes the Rottweiler and the Dobermann admits only registered purebreds. The guidance for importers describes the dog as arriving as manifest cargo, while another source says that a pet may travel in the cabin. Which of the two applies to a private aircraft is something we confirm with the Mauritian authority in writing before we quote. The only permitted point of entry is Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International.

  • A microchip of the ISO type, fitted before the rabies vaccination, which the return to Britain also requires;
  • A rabies vaccination and an antibody test, with the result and the date recorded; the windows quoted in the sources differ, so we work from the permit;
  • The Mauritian import permit and the Great Britain export health certificate, completed by an Official Veterinarian shortly before departure; the certificate we found on GOV.UK for dogs is valid for 7 days;
  • For dogs only, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain. A cat needs no treatment.

The return is the simple half. The British government places Mauritius on its list of Part 2 countries, so no blood test is needed. A pet travels on a Great Britain pet health certificate, not a pet passport, issued by a vet in Mauritius within the 10 days before arrival, and needs a microchip fitted before or at the same time as the rabies vaccination, at least 21 days since the primary vaccination and an approved route. GOV.UK does not say how the route rule applies to a private aircraft, so we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight. An animal that does not meet the rules can be placed in quarantine for up to four months at the owner's expense.

Quarantine on arrival does not suit a short stay, and many owners decide to leave the pet at home. Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. The distance makes Mauritius a place where one-way trips are normal: a family flies out for a fortnight, and the aircraft either waits or goes home.

Where Mauritian empty legs come from

– Aircraft that take a party to Mauritius and fly back to Britain without passengers, which is the leg most often offered;

– Aircraft repositioning to the island before the Christmas weeks;

– Regional legs between Mauritius, the Seychelles, Johannesburg and the Gulf.

A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. Typical empty legs to and from Mauritius:

Route Aircraft Capacity Whole aircraft
Seychelles - Mauritius Challenger 350 9 seats £8,600
Johannesburg - Mauritius Challenger 350 9 seats £14,050
Mauritius - Dubai Praetor 600 9 seats £19,150
Mauritius - UK (London Stansted) Praetor 600 9 seats £38,600
UK (Biggin Hill) - Mauritius Praetor 600 9 seats £38,600
UK (London Luton) - Mauritius Praetor 600 9 seats £38,700
Mauritius - UK (Farnborough) Praetor 600 9 seats £38,800
UK (Manchester) - Mauritius Praetor 600 9 seats £39,300

How to read those figures

– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Praetor 600 from London Luton to Mauritius at £38,700 with eight aboard comes to about £4,850 a head;

– A leg that points towards Britain is easier to find after the Christmas weeks and at the end of the cyclone season, and an open return date helps.

Helicopter charter

Helicopters on Mauritius do one job well: they shorten the last leg from the airport to a resort. We do not publish a standing helicopter service for the island, because the machine, the crew and the landing site come from local operators and are confirmed for the date. The times below are straight-line planning estimates from the airport at Plaine Magnien:

Plaine Magnien to the east coast resorts
the near side of the island, close to the airport
about 15 min
Plaine Magnien to Port Louis
the capital, a drive of 30 to 45 minutes on the ground
about 20 min
Plaine Magnien to Le Morne
the far south-western corner, with the mountain and the lagoon
about 20 min
Plaine Magnien to Grand Baie
the north coast, the longest of the common transfers
about 20 min
Plaine Magnien to Flic en Flac
the west coast, on the other side of the island
about 20 min

A resort on the east coast with its own helipad quotes 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, which fits those figures. Another resort's price list for the same transfer shows a small helicopter and a price per flight, in the tens of thousands of Mauritian rupees one way, so party size and baggage decide the machine and the cost. We book the helicopter alongside the jet, so the whole itinerary is quoted as one.

Before you plan around a helicopter

A helicopter lands at an approved helipad, and a hotel lawn or a stretch of beach is not one until the owner and the authorities have agreed to it. Helicopters typically fly in daylight, and the operator checks the date, the hour and the wind first. We confirm the permission for the landing site and the operator's hours before we quote.

Mauritian charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.

EAST COAST · A FAMILY FORTNIGHT

Four people and the lowest price

London Stansted - Mauritius via Dubai, Praetor 600, about 14 h 40 min · 4 pax

They left in the evening, stopped for fuel in Dubai and landed on the island in the afternoon. A car took them to a resort on the east coast. The aircraft flew home empty and returned for them, which is how the quote was built.

NONSTOP · THE HEAVY LUGGAGE

Eight guests and a hold full of golf clubs

Biggin Hill - Mauritius, Global 6000, about 11 h 40 min · 8 pax

The party chose the nonstop aircraft for the cabin and for the arrival time, around lunch on the following day, after a night's sleep on board.

THE LOOP · MAURITIUS, THEN THE SEYCHELLES

One aircraft for two islands

London Luton - Mauritius, Global 6000, about 11 h 45 min · 6 pax

A week on Mauritius and a week in the Seychelles, with the same aircraft and crew. The jet waited on the apron at Plaine Magnien for the first week, flew the party to Mahé and then took them home.

RODRIGUES · A TURBOPROP

Two nights on the small island

Mauritius - Rodrigues, Pilatus PC-12 NGX, about 1 h 45 min · 6 pax

The jet from London stayed at Plaine Magnien, and a PC-12 took the party across to the small airport on Rodrigues for two nights. The permit and the handler on Rodrigues were fixed with the main booking.

WITH THE DOG · THE LONG LEAD TIME

Two adults and a spaniel on a posting

Biggin Hill - Mauritius via Dubai, Praetor 600, about 14 h 40 min · 2 pax + dog

The import permit came first, then the blood tests, and the question of quarantine on arrival was settled with the Mauritian authority before the dates were booked.

EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN

A Mauritius departure with a window of four days

Mauritius - London Luton, Praetor 600 empty leg, about 14 h 45 min · 4 pax

The client gave us a window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £38,700, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a departure on the third day of the window.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Mauritius

1How long does it take to fly to Mauritius by private jet?

About 11 hours 40 minutes nonstop from London Stansted on a Global 6000, and about 14 hours 40 minutes on a Praetor 600 with a stop in Dubai. Edinburgh adds about 25 minutes to the Praetor journey. Mauritius is four hours ahead of London in winter and three hours ahead in summer.

2How much does a private jet to Mauritius cost?

From about £91,850 one way from London Stansted on a Praetor 600 with a stop in Dubai. A Global 6000 flying nonstop from the same airfield is £147,850. Edinburgh costs about £2,700 more than Stansted on the Praetor, and a short hop to Rodrigues on a turboprop starts from £4,450.

3Which airport does a private jet use in Mauritius?

Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International (MRU / FIMP) at Plaine Magnien, the only international airport of the country. It has a runway of 3,370 metres, customs and immigration on site and a private terminal, Jet Prime. Rodrigues (RRG / FIMR) has a short runway and is for turboprops and light jets.

4Do British passengers need a visa or a permit for a private flight to Mauritius?

British citizens visit without a visa for up to 60 days with a passport valid for the whole stay and at least one blank page, and with proof of onward travel. The British government points visitors to the Mauritius All in One travel form, to be completed online before arrival. The aircraft needs a landing permit and an overflight permit, and an older article quotes 72 hours for a business charter application.

5Can a private jet land on Rodrigues?

Rodrigues has an airport with an asphalt runway of about 1,290 metres, used by Air Mauritius flights from the main island. A large jet from London is not planned there. The usual arrangement is to land at Plaine Magnien and fly on in a turboprop such as a Pilatus PC-12 for about an hour and three quarters.

6Can I take my dog or cat to Mauritius on a private jet?

It is possible but slow. Mauritius needs an import permit, a microchip, a rabies antibody test and a stay in quarantine, with extra blood tests for dogs, and several breeds are prohibited. Published guidance describes the animal as manifest cargo, so we confirm in writing that it may travel in the cabin. For the return, Mauritius is on the British Part 2 list: a Great Britain pet health certificate from a vet in Mauritius, a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, and for dogs a tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before arrival.
