Private jet charter in Jordan

Jordan is a small kingdom with a very large reputation, and a business jet that leaves the south of England at breakfast puts its passengers in Amman for a late lunch. Almost everything a visitor comes for sits inside one strip of country roughly 330 km long: the capital on its plateau, the Dead Sea below sea level, the rose-red city of Petra, the sandstone desert of Wadi Rum and the coral of the Red Sea at Aqaba. That compactness is what makes a private aircraft so useful here. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Jordan that means a landing permit from the Jordanian civil aviation regulator, a handler booked at the right one of three airports, a visa plan for every passenger and a straight answer on whether your aircraft can fly the sector in one hop.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Jordan depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Praetor 600 flying nonstop to Amman Marka and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Jordan?

Jordan keeps the same time all year and does not change its clocks. That makes it three hours ahead of Britain in winter and two hours ahead while British Summer Time runs. A seven o'clock departure from London in winter therefore lands in the early afternoon on the Jordanian clock, with the whole working day still in front of the passengers. These are the sectors to Amman Marka on a Praetor 600, gate to gate, from the airfields our clients use most:

Biggin Hill to Amman Marka
2,036 nautical miles, the nearest of the London fields to Jordan, and the base for the price quoted at the top of the page
about 5 h
Farnborough to Amman Marka
2,064 nautical miles, the usual field for Surrey, Hampshire and the Thames Valley
about 5 h 05 min
London Luton to Amman Marka
2,063 nautical miles, the choice for north London, Hertfordshire and the Midlands
about 5 h 05 min
Birmingham to Amman Marka
2,126 nautical miles, the main airport of the Midlands
about 5 h 15 min
Manchester to Amman Marka
2,165 nautical miles, the departure for the north-west of England
about 5 h 20 min
Edinburgh to Amman Marka
2,266 nautical miles, the main Scottish departure, about 230 nautical miles further than Biggin Hill
about 5 h 30 min

Amman has two airports for a private aircraft and the south of the country has a third. The extra distance to either of the others is small enough not to change the aircraft, only the time on the clock:

Biggin Hill to Amman Marka
2,036 nautical miles, five kilometres from the centre of the capital
about 5 h
Biggin Hill to Amman Queen Alia
2,047 nautical miles, the international airport, south of the city
about 5 h 05 min
Biggin Hill to Aqaba King Hussein
2,111 nautical miles, the Red Sea, for Petra, Wadi Rum and the reefs
about 5 h 10 min

The distance settles the aircraft before the budget does

A light jet with a range of about 2,000 nautical miles does not cover 2,036 nautical miles with fuel reserves, which is why the quote and the title price of this page are built on the Praetor 600, a super-midsize jet quoted at about 3,900 nautical miles of range. A Challenger 350, quoted at about 3,200, also flies it, with less margin against a headwind.

A smaller aircraft is possible with a technical stop in southern Europe or on the central Mediterranean. The stop adds about an hour of ground time and a second set of landing and handling charges, shown as a line of its own in the quote. Before any sector is confirmed, the operator files the route and the overflight permissions for every state along it.

The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Prices for the private jet flights to Jordan

Typical private jet charter prices from Britain to Amman Marka, listed cheapest first. Every row is a nonstop Praetor 600, the smallest aircraft we price for this run without a fuel stop. London City is left out on purpose, because its short runway is an awkward start for a sector of this length:

Two things worth knowing about these figures

– The departure airfield moves the price by a few thousand pounds, not by tens of thousands. Edinburgh costs about £3,450 more than Biggin Hill on the same aircraft and Glasgow about £3,950 more, and each hundred nautical miles adds roughly £1,500 on a Praetor 600;

– A one-way price assumes the aircraft flies back empty. For a return trip with a stay of several days the aircraft either waits in Jordan, with parking and crew accommodation as lines of their own, or flies home and returns for you, and we show both versions side by side.

Amman Marka is the anchor, and the other two Jordanian airports sit close behind it. The same aircraft flying from Biggin Hill costs this:

Route from Biggin Hill Flight time Price, one way
Biggin Hill - Amman Marka (Amman Civil)
2,036 nm / 3,771 km, Praetor 600
about 5 h from £33,150
Biggin Hill - Amman Queen Alia International
2,047 nm / 3,791 km, Praetor 600
about 5 h 05 min from £33,300
Biggin Hill - Aqaba King Hussein International
2,111 nm / 3,910 km, Praetor 600
about 5 h 10 min from £34,300

Why the title says Amman

Marka is the cheapest of the three, at £33,150, because it lies about 11 nautical miles closer to London than Queen Alia does, a difference of only £150 on the quote. Aqaba costs £1,150 more than Marka from the same airfield. We anchor the page on Marka because it is the airport where most private and government traffic to the capital lands, five kilometres from the centre.

Two things worth knowing about the sectors inside Jordan

– A domestic sector between Amman and Aqaba is normally a job for a Jordanian operator, so the aircraft that brought you from London will usually not be the one that takes you south. We arrange the domestic leg separately, quote it on its own line and confirm the position for your aircraft before you commit;

– Amman to Aqaba is only about 330 km by road and some 156 nautical miles by air, but the road runs through the desert for most of the way, and the flight saves the better part of a day.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Jordan:

Turboprops and light jets

The class for the short hops once you are in the country, and for the long run only with a technical stop. The Pilatus PC-12 NGX covers Amman to Aqaba in about an hour, with a cabin that takes up to nine.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h

Super-midsize

The smallest class that flies London to Amman in one go, and the one our title price is built on. A Challenger 350 has the range but less reserve against a headwind.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h

Heavy jets

For a family or a delegation with staff, with room to rest on a sector of five hours. Amman sits at about 730 to 780 metres above sea level, and the long runways at Marka and Queen Alia leave a wide margin for any of them.

Business aviation airports in Jordan

Jordan has three airports that matter to a private traveller, and the useful question is which one fits the trip, not which is the best:

Airport Ground How it operates
Amman Marka (Amman Civil)
ADJ / OJAM
About 5 km north-east of the centre of Amman The usual landing for private and government flights to the capital. One runway of about 3,275 metres, open round the clock, customs on site. Slots required, handling compulsory. A joint civil and military field
Queen Alia International
AMM / OJAI
About 30 km south of Amman, 16 nm from Marka The international airport of the kingdom, with two parallel runways of 3,660 metres, open round the clock, customs on site. Slots not required on the record, handling compulsory. The better choice for a heavy jet or a party that connects with an airline
King Hussein International
AQJ / OJAQ
About 9 km north of Aqaba, 156 nm from Marka One runway of 3,000 metres at sea level, open round the clock, customs on site. Slots not required, handling compulsory. A private jet terminal and a royal pavilion stand beside the airline building. The airport for the Red Sea, Wadi Rum and Petra

Amman Marka was the main airport of the capital until Queen Alia replaced it, and handlers describe it today as the usual choice for domestic, regional and private flights. It lies in the Marka district about 5 km from the centre. The supervising agent on record is MasterJet, and Location Flight Services and Moonjet Flight Support are among the flight support companies listed. One caution comes from the handlers themselves: parking can be limited during diplomatic events and regional summits, so a date that coincides with one is checked before the aircraft is committed.

Queen Alia International is where the airlines go, 30 km south of the capital on the plateau, with two parallel runways of 3,660 metres and the highest fire category on record. It is the right field for a heavy jet or a very large cabin, and for a party that will leave on a scheduled flight the next day. Mixjet Flight Support, Tahseen Aviation Services and Jet Business Solutions are listed as handlers, with Location Flight Services, MasterJet and Link Aero Trading Agency as supervising agents. Handling is compulsory.

King Hussein International in Aqaba is the airport that feels most like a private terminal. A separate general aviation building and a royal pavilion stand beside the airline terminal, and Jordan Private Jets Services runs a VIP terminal there, which the trade press described when it was built as the first privately owned business aviation terminal in the Middle East. It has a lounge, eight rest rooms for executives and crew and a large apron. The airport lies about 9 km north of the town, and the runway is at sea level, which helps on a hot day.

The record shows all three airports open round the clock, all with customs and all as airports of entry. These are the three we use for an international arrival, and for Petra and Wadi Rum the nearest of them is Aqaba. Four points settle most Jordanian arrivals before a quote goes out:

Landing permit: ask for 72 hours

Landing and overflight permits are coordinated with the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission. Handlers advise filing 48 to 72 hours ahead, and short-notice requests are possible but not guaranteed. We request the permit on the day the booking is made.

Slots, airport by airport

Marka lists slots as required. Queen Alia and Aqaba do not, and busy periods can still need coordination. We ask the handler for a written slot or a written statement that none is needed, and we do not rely on a database entry.

Handler named in the quote

Handling is compulsory at all three airports. The quote names the handler and the terminal, so the driver knows where to go.

Documents for the permit file

The Jordanian side asks for current insurance and airworthiness certificates, and may ask for documents tied to the individual aircraft. Crew visas and passenger entry requirements are verified in advance, and a missing paper is the commonest reason a quote takes longer than expected.

Arriving from Britain: passports, visas and customs

Jordan is outside the European Union and the Schengen area, and British passport holders need a visa. These are the points that decide whether the passengers pass through in minutes or are held at the desk:

Passports
the passport must expire at least six months after the day of arrival; a passport reported lost or stolen, or an invalid travel document, means entry is denied
every passenger, children included
Visas
a visit visa on arrival costs 40 Jordanian dinars, is valid for single entry and for three months, and is sold at Jordanian airports; travellers who stay at least three nights can buy the Jordan Pass, which includes the visa fee and entry to the main sites, and it must be bought from the official website only
pay on arrival, or buy the pass
Aqaba and the special economic zone
the Aqaba authority publishes a free visa for those who enter through a port, airport or land border and leave by the same border within one month; a traveller who enters elsewhere and goes on to Aqaba registers at the zone visa office within 48 hours, or pays for the visa and a daily fine
free, but a one-month limit
Long stays
a stay of more than 14 days needs a registration with the police residency office, with fingerprints and an iris scan, and a missed registration carries a 200 dinar fine at departure; a stay of more than 30 days needs an HIV test
plan ahead for a long stay
Drones and equipment
a drone needs approval at least ten working days before travel, and one without a permit is held at the airport until departure; strict customs rules apply, so anything that may be prohibited, taxed or dutiable is declared
check before you pack

Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, and most other nationalities do.

Read the travel advice before you book

The British government publishes advice for Jordan. It advises against all travel within 3 km of the border with Syria. It tells travellers to expect possible flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures, to follow the notices on airports and airspace that could close at short notice, and it describes regional attacks and tensions and what to do if told to shelter. It also warns that travel insurance could be invalid for a journey made against the advice. We read the advice against your itinerary before we quote and again close to departure, and a flight is confirmed only when the operator holds the route, the overflight permissions and the insurance cover in writing. If airspace is closed, the flight does not operate, and the practical alternative is the nearest open airport and a ground transfer, which we price on request.

Which airport for which part of Jordan

Jordan is small, and the useful comparison is not distance but how long the road takes from the apron to the address:

Amman, the Citadel and the business districts
Marka is about 5 km from the centre, while Queen Alia lies about 30 km to the south; the city itself rises across hills from 700 to 1,100 metres
Amman Marka
Jerash and the north
the Roman city lies about 48 km north of the capital, so the drive starts from Marka and runs north from the city
Amman Marka
The Dead Sea resorts
the shore sits more than 400 metres below sea level on the eastern side of the lake, along Highway 65, near the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center, and the road down from Amman is the way in
Marka or Queen Alia
Petra and Wadi Musa
Petra lies about 250 km from Amman by road and about 100 km from Aqaba, and the village of Wadi Musa is 3.5 km from the site
Aqaba, or Amman for the long drive
Wadi Rum
the desert reserve lies about 60 km east of Aqaba, with overnight camps run by Bedouin families
Aqaba
Aqaba, the reefs and Tala Bay
the town is about 330 km from Amman, with Tala Bay about 20 km south and the Ayla waterfront district on the lagoon
Aqaba

Amman, Petra and the Red Sea: what our clients go for

Business comes first in Amman. Ministries, banks, embassies and the head offices of regional companies sit in the capital, and a delegation that lands at Marka expects to be in a meeting the same afternoon.

The city also holds a good day for anyone who has time. The Citadel crowns a hill that holds the Umayyad Palace and a Roman temple of Hercules, and the Roman Theatre downtown, built in the second century, hosts concerts. Outside the city, Jerash keeps a large Roman city, with Hadrian's Arch and an oval forum about 300 feet long, and Madaba keeps a sixth-century Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land on the floor of a church.

The Dead Sea is the second reason. Its Jordanian shore is the lowest dry land on earth, and the water is almost ten times saltier than the ocean, so a swimmer floats without trying. Nine international hotels stand along the shore and bring the capacity of the Jordanian side to about 2,800 rooms, which is why the lake works for a long weekend of spa treatments as well as a day trip.

Petra is the third, and the one that sells the country. The Treasury, 24 metres wide and 37 metres tall, stands at the end of the Siq, a gorge that narrows to 3 or 4 metres in places, and the Monastery above the valley is larger still at 45 metres tall. The site is listed by UNESCO. Many visitors see it in a single day from Aqaba or Amman, and the long walk through the Siq is the reason to allow the whole day.

Wadi Rum and Aqaba make the fourth. Wadi Rum covers about 720 square kilometres of sandstone and sand, is also a World Heritage site and has served as the backdrop for films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Martian and Dune. Aqaba is a different Jordan, a Red Sea resort with more than 30 main dive sites and fringing reefs that run for 25 km towards the Saudi border, and with the waterfront developments of Ayla and Tala Bay for those who prefer the marina to the reef.

The Jordanian year: mild winters and a hot Red Sea summer

Jordan has four seasons that matter, and the difference between the plateau and the Red Sea is larger than most visitors expect. The city on its hills is cool and wet in winter, while Aqaba stays warm and the Dead Sea sits somewhere between:

November to March
Amman is cool, with January highs of about 11 to 13 degrees, most of the year's rain falling between November and April, and snow once or twice a year on average; Aqaba is warm at about 21 degrees in January, and the Dead Sea has winter averages of 20 to 23 degrees
cool in Amman, warm at the coast
April and May
the best weeks for the sights: Amman reaches about 22 to 24 degrees in April, Aqaba about 32, and the desert is not yet hot
peak season for Petra and Wadi Rum
June to September
Amman has July highs of about 31 to 33 degrees, Aqaba about 41, Wadi Rum about 35 and the Dead Sea averages 32 to 39; Petra is milder at about 30 in July but sees no rain from June to September
hot, quiet at the coast
October
the heat eases: Amman is about 25 to 27 degrees, Aqaba still about 34; the second good season for the desert and the reefs begins
second peak

Hot-day performance and the height of Amman

Both Amman airports lie at about 730 to 780 metres above sea level, and thinner air together with a hot afternoon costs an aircraft some take-off performance. The runways of 3,275 and 3,660 metres leave a wide margin, and for a summer departure we ask the operator to confirm the payload in the quote, so that the bags and the fuel for the return are not a surprise on the day.

The Jordanian calendar: festivals, holidays and the seasons

A few things move private traffic in Jordan, and the lunar holidays move through the year, so the dates are checked before a trip is planned around them:

Christmas and New Year
The winter peak for the Red Sea and the Dead Sea. Families arrive for the holidays on long stays, usually with a lot of luggage and often with a plan to see Petra and finish on the beach at Aqaba
March to May
The spring season for Petra, Wadi Rum and the hills, before the heat arrives. Demand for the desert camps is highest, and an aircraft for a spring weekend is easiest to find if it is booked a few weeks ahead
Ramadan and Eid
Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year, so the month changes and has to be looked up. Working hours shorten in Ramadan, and the Eid holidays fill flights and hotels in both directions
Summer
The Jerash Festival, a summer programme of music, dance and theatre in the Roman city, which runs for about three weeks. The exact weeks are checked each season
August
The Al-Balad Music Festival, held in August at the Roman Theatre in downtown Amman

What an event does to a flight plan

The winter holidays and the lunar holidays tighten the supply of long-range aircraft and of domestic operators for the south, so a booking made three or four weeks before a Christmas or New Year arrival is simpler and cheaper than one made in the last week. A summit or a state visit in Amman can close ramp space at Marka for a day or two, and the handler tells us as early as it can.

Flying to Jordan with a dog or a cat

The cabin is not the problem: the animal sits beside you for the five hours and nothing goes into the hold. The paperwork is the problem. Jordan is not a country that Britain treats as listed, so an animal coming home needs a rabies blood test planned months before the flight.

The one fact to read before you book

A dog or cat leaving Britain for Jordan needs the UK export health certificate for Jordan, signed by an Official Veterinarian after an examination not more than 48 hours before departure. The official notes for exporters say plainly that Jordan's conditions may have changed and that the certificate may not meet them in full, so the Jordanian authorities are asked before each consignment, and we do the same.

Pet-travel agencies summarise the Jordanian side as a 15-digit microchip, a rabies vaccination given 21 days to 12 months before entry and an original health certificate from a vet, figures we confirm with the Jordanian side for your dates.

  • A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination, as the return to Britain requires;
  • A rabies vaccination given at least 30 days and not more than 12 months before export according to the UK certificate, and at least 21 days before the return to Britain;
  • The export health certificate, with the vaccination record attached, and a tapeworm treatment within 14 days of export where the certificate asks for it;
  • For the return, a rabies blood test, because Jordan is not listed, and a Great Britain pet health certificate; GOV.UK counts three months from the date of the blood sample before an animal from a non-listed country may travel to Britain;
  • For dogs only, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain. A cat needs no treatment.

Two practical points are particular to Jordan. Agencies name Queen Alia as the entry point for animals, and a private jet lands at Marka or Aqaba, so we ask the Jordanian veterinary side in writing which airport can receive the animal on your date. An approved travel route for the return is the last item. GOV.UK tells owners to check it, and its guidance does not say how the rule applies to a private aircraft, so we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight. An animal that does not meet the rules can be placed in quarantine for up to four months at the owner's expense.

The dates run in two directions at once. The tapeworm window for the flight home is 24 to 120 hours, so a dog's vet visit falls in Jordan, near the end of the stay, and not before leaving. Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Jordan produces them because so many trips are one-way by nature: a party flies out for a week at Petra and the Red Sea, and the aircraft comes home or moves on.

Where Jordanian empty legs come from

– Aircraft that take a party to Amman or Aqaba and fly back to Britain without passengers, which is the route most often offered;

– Aircraft repositioning to the Gulf or the Red Sea before the Christmas and New Year weeks, when operators move aircraft out to the region;

– Short regional legs between Amman, Larnaca and Riyadh, which come up when a client stays in one city and the aircraft goes on to the next.

A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though the operator owns the date and a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. Typical Jordanian empty legs:

Route Aircraft Capacity Whole aircraft
Amman Marka - Larnaca Citation CJ3+ 7 seats £2,250
Riyadh - Amman Marka Citation XLS+ 9 seats £5,350
Amman Marka - UK (London Biggin Hill) Praetor 600 9 seats £13,900
UK (London Luton) - Amman Marka Praetor 600 9 seats £14,100
UK (London Biggin Hill) - Aqaba Praetor 600 9 seats £14,400
UK (Birmingham) - Amman Marka Praetor 600 9 seats £14,500
Aqaba - UK (Farnborough) Praetor 600 9 seats £14,550
UK (Edinburgh) - Amman Marka Praetor 600 9 seats £15,350

How to read those figures

– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Praetor 600 from London Luton to Amman Marka at £14,100 with eight aboard comes to about £1,750 a head;

– A leg that points towards Britain is easier to find in the weeks after Christmas, when the winter parties go home, and an open return date helps.

Helicopter charter

In Jordan a helicopter is a way to reach the edges of a trip, not an airport shuttle. A Jordanian air taxi operator lists helicopter flights from Amman to Petra and from Petra to the Dead Sea, Aqaba and Wadi Rum, on request, together with scenic flights over Petra itself. The question is not whether a machine can do the job but whether the permission exists, because that decides every rotary job in the country. The times below are straight-line estimates:

Amman Marka to Dead Sea
from the capital to the resort shore, in place of the drive down
about 25 min
Amman Marka to Petra
the long road to the south avoided, subject to permission for the landing site
about 1 h 05 min
Aqaba to Petra
from the Red Sea to the Rose City, a day trip
about 35 min
Aqaba to Wadi Rum
over the sandstone desert, for a camp that is not on a road
about 20 min

The operator confirms the route for your date, and we book the helicopter alongside the jet, so the whole itinerary is quoted as one.

Before you plan around a helicopter

The Jordanian authorities control where a helicopter may land and over which areas, and Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea shore are protected places, so we confirm the permission for every landing site and every overflown area before we quote. A hotel lawn, a camp in the desert or the deck of a boat is not a site until it has been approved.

Jordanian charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.

AMMAN · FIXED DATES

A negotiating team and a car at the door

Farnborough - Amman Marka, Praetor 600, about 5 h 05 min · 6 pax

The dates came from the meeting calendar. The handler had the permit and the passenger details more than 72 hours before departure, and the driver was told which terminal to meet the aircraft at and not given a general airport address. The meeting was five kilometres from the apron.

DEAD SEA · A LONG WEEKEND

A family and the grandparents at the lake

London Luton - Amman Queen Alia, Praetor 600, about 5 h 05 min · 7 pax

They chose Queen Alia because the party was large and two of them were continuing to another country on an airline the next week. The road down to the Dead Sea shore took the rest of the afternoon, and the aircraft went home empty in the meantime.

PETRA · WADI RUM · THE REEF

Two couples and ten days in the south

Biggin Hill - Aqaba, Praetor 600, about 5 h 10 min · 4 pax

The jet landed at Aqaba on the first morning, with the free visa for the zone arranged in advance. Petra took one day, Wadi Rum took a night in a camp and the rest of the stay was spent at the water. The return was booked as an open sector.

DIVING · A WEEK AT THE RED SEA

Six divers and their equipment

Birmingham - Aqaba, Praetor 600, about 5 h 25 min · 6 pax

Equipment was the main question: the bags of regulators and cylinders were listed with the handler in advance so that nothing waited at customs. A domestic leg to Amman at the end of the stay was flown by a Jordanian turboprop operator and quoted separately.

WITH THE DOG · THE LONG LEAD TIME

Two adults and a labrador for a spring fortnight

Biggin Hill - Amman Marka, Praetor 600, about 5 h · 2 pax + dog

The paperwork began months before departure with the rabies blood test, because Jordan is not a listed country. The export certificate was signed within 48 hours of the flight out, and the tapeworm treatment was booked with a vet in Jordan for the end of the stay, between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home.

EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN

An Aqaba departure with a window of three days

Aqaba - London Luton, Praetor 600 empty leg, about 5 h 15 min · 4 pax

The client gave us a window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £14,550, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a departure on the second day of the window.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Jordan

1How long does it take to fly to Jordan by private jet?

About 5 hours nonstop from London Biggin Hill to Amman Marka on a Praetor 600, and 5 hours 30 minutes from Edinburgh. Aqaba is about 5 hours 10 minutes from Biggin Hill. A smaller aircraft needs a technical stop that adds about an hour. Jordan does not change its clocks, so it is three hours ahead of Britain in winter and two hours ahead in summer.

2How much does a private jet to Jordan cost?

From about £33,150 one way from Biggin Hill to Amman Marka on a Praetor 600, the smallest aircraft we price for the nonstop run. Queen Alia costs £150 more and Aqaba £1,150 more. Edinburgh costs about £3,450 more than Biggin Hill on the same aircraft, and the short hop from Amman to Aqaba starts from £3,100 on a turboprop.

3Which airport should a private jet use in Jordan?

Amman Marka (ADJ / OJAM) for most business and government trips, five kilometres from the centre, open round the clock, with customs on site, slots required and handling compulsory. Queen Alia International (AMM / OJAI) suits a heavy jet or a party that connects with an airline, and King Hussein International in Aqaba (AQJ / OJAQ) serves Petra, Wadi Rum and the Red Sea.

4Do British passengers need a visa and a permit for a private flight to Jordan?

Yes, a visa. A visit visa on arrival costs 40 Jordanian dinars and is valid for single entry and three months, and the Jordan Pass includes it for those who stay at least three nights. Arrivals through Aqaba can use a free visa for the special economic zone, valid for a stay of up to one month. The passport must be valid for at least six months. The aircraft needs landing and overflight permits from the Jordanian civil aviation regulator, which we request at least 72 hours ahead.

5Can a private jet fly on from Amman to Aqaba or Petra?

A flight from Amman to Aqaba takes about an hour on a turboprop. The domestic sector is normally flown by a Jordanian operator and not by the aircraft that brought you from Britain, and we quote it separately. Of the three airports we use, the nearest to Petra is Aqaba, about 100 km away, and a helicopter transfer is possible where the permission exists.

6Can I take my dog or cat to Jordan on a private jet?

Yes, in the cabin, but start early. The animal needs the UK export health certificate for Jordan, signed by an Official Veterinarian within 48 hours of departure, and we check the Jordanian conditions before each trip. For the return Jordan is not a listed country, so it needs a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a rabies blood test, a Great Britain pet health certificate and, for dogs, a tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before arrival. We confirm each step in writing.
