Private jet charter in Orlando

For a London family heading for the parks, the real choice in Orlando is between several airfields, and only some of them can take a transatlantic arrival through customs. Private Jets UK charters the aircraft that the crossing demands and the airfield that suits the passengers. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Four of the airfields lie within about 60 km of one another around the city, Orlando International takes most of the long-haul business jets, and the Space Coast fields to the east and Daytona Beach to the north serve the rocket launches and the race weeks.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Orlando depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. On a sector of almost four thousand nautical miles the choice between a nonstop long-range cabin and a large-cabin jet with a stop in the Azores moves the price more than any other item. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Bombardier Challenger 605 with a stop in the Azores and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Orlando?

The nonstop flight from London to Orlando takes about 8 h 40 min in a Global 6000 from Farnborough, and a little less from Scotland and the north of England. The routed distance to Orlando International runs from 3,721 to 3,932 nautical miles depending on the British field, against a published range of 6,000 nautical miles for the Global 6000, so the long-range cabins have margin to spare even with a westbound headwind. Smaller large-cabin jets are another matter. A Challenger 350 is published at 3,200 nautical miles, well short of the distance, and the Challenger 604, whose figures the 605 is said to match, at about 4,000, which a headwind and fuel reserves also eat up. Those aircraft fly the route in two legs with a stop at Santa Maria in the Azores. Orlando keeps Eastern time, five hours behind Britain for most of the year, so a morning departure from London lands around lunchtime, Orlando time. The times below assume the headwind that the North Atlantic normally supplies on the way west. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave Farnborough at nine in the morning, British time, and you touch down in Florida at about 12:40 in the afternoon, Orlando time. The middle of the city lies 14 km from Orlando International in a straight line, and the Magic Kingdom 27 km, so the car from the private terminal is a short one by American standards, although the roads to the parks fill at the end of the working day. The westbound day is generous: 8 h 40 min in the air, the clocks go back five hours, and a family that leaves after breakfast can be at the hotel pool before the afternoon thunderstorms arrive. Coming home the sums run the other way. The eastbound crossing takes about 7 h 20 min with the wind behind, but it is usually flown overnight, so the party lands in Britain the next morning with a night in a seat instead of a bed.

Nonstop or one stop: the question that decides the aircraft

– A Global or Gulfstream long-range jet flies London to Orlando in one go and is the answer for most parties of five or more, for anyone who wants to sleep, and for anyone who dislikes a ground stop in the middle of the Atlantic;

– A large-cabin jet of the Challenger 605 class stops once, normally in the Azores, because a published range of about 4,000 nautical miles on a sector of roughly 3,900 leaves nothing for the wind. From Biggin Hill the two legs are 1,429 and 2,955 nautical miles, the stop takes about an hour on the ground and the saving over a long-range jet is large. A Challenger 350 would be near the edge of its range even on the second leg, so we do not offer it on this route;

– Light jets and turboprops do not cross the Atlantic from Britain as a rule. If the trip needs a light jet or a King Air in Florida, the crossing is done by a larger aircraft and the smaller one is booked locally for the onward legs.

Private jet flights from Orlando

Orlando is a base for the rest of Florida as much as a destination in itself. Tampa and Miami are each under an hour away, Nassau is a short sea crossing, and New York is a morning flight. The way home is the same crossing as the way out, with the wind on the tail. Typical one-way prices:

Why the short legs are the cheap part

A trip to Orlando is usually priced as one long crossing and a few short hops, and the hops cost a fraction of the crossing. A flight to Tampa in a Pilatus PC-12 starts at £3,100, against £106,400 for the Atlantic leg in a Global 6000 from Farnborough, so the extra stops in Florida barely change the total. The sensible way to plan it is to book the large aircraft for the ocean and ask us to quote the regional aircraft separately, since a turboprop or light jet based in Florida will almost always beat a long-range jet kept on the apron at Orlando for a week at the parks.

Before you accept a Florida onward quote

– Who is allowed to fly it. The United States treats a charter between two American points as a domestic job. A non-US aircraft may carry passengers between two US points only if they arrived on it from abroad or are leaving on it for abroad, so the jet that brought you from London can take you on to Miami, while a hop for another party is normally flown by a US-registered aircraft. Each US leg flown by a foreign aircraft also needs its own permit to proceed from customs;

– Which airport, and who clears it. Orlando International, Sanford, Kissimmee and Executive each have their own handlers, customs arrangements and runway limits, so a quote that says only Orlando has not told you where the car will wait. A leg to Nassau adds the formalities of a second country, and we build them into the same plan.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for the Orlando run:

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Aircraft that can cross the Atlantic are fewer than the ones that serve Europe, and their positions change daily, so a long-range jet already waiting in London is often cheaper than one that must first be brought over from North America. Florida works the other way round in winter, when many American aircraft are based there, and a jet that is going home across the ocean anyway can sometimes be had on better terms for the eastbound leg.

Business aviation airports in Orlando

Four airfields around the city handle business jets, and they are not interchangeable. Two more to the east and one to the north serve the coast and the race track. The biggest airport is the right one for a flight from Britain, and it helps to know what the others are for before a quote arrives.

Airport What it gives you
Orlando International
MCO / KMCO
The default for a business jet from Britain and the airport the prices on this page are built on. It lies about 14 km from the middle of Orlando in a straight line, with four runways from 9,001 to 12,005 ft (2,744 to 3,659 m). Signature and Atlantic Aviation handle business aircraft, and it is a customs landing rights airport with a CBP general aviation facility where an officer meets the aircraft. The airport data we work from lists no curfew and no slot scheme for the field. Parts of the taxiway system are limited to wingspans under 118 ft, and an aircraft of that size asks permission in advance
Orlando Executive
ORL / KORL
The city field, about 5 km east of the middle of Orlando and the closest of the four to the downtown offices. Two runways of 6,004 and 4,625 ft (1,830 and 1,410 m), a tower open 07:00 to 22:00, and two handlers, Sheltair and Atlantic Aviation, which the airport authority describes as serving round the clock. A runway of that length suits light, midsize and many super-midsize jets, and is short for a long-range cabin loaded for the Atlantic. The airport is noise sensitive, runway 07 is preferred when the tower is closed, and aircraft over 100,000 lb need prior permission. The sources we found disagree on whether the customs office on the field clears international arrivals, so we do not plan one into Executive. A party clears at International and drives, or takes a short domestic hop
Orlando Sanford International
SFB / KSFB
A quieter alternative about 30 km north-east of the middle of Orlando, with an 11,002 ft (3,353 m) main runway, a second of 6,002 ft and a tower open 06:30 to 23:00. Million Air Orlando is the business aviation handler. It is a customs airport of entry, but the CBP general aviation facility keeps limited hours, and the sources we checked give them differently, from afternoons on five days of the week to 09:00 to 17:00 on seven, and one asks for an hour's notice, or two hours outside those times. One source limits a flight to 30 passengers, and smaller aircraft are listed as clearing customs by calling on 129.075 before landing, and the airport takes no international diversions except in an emergency. It suits a party that can arrive inside the customs window and wants to avoid the big terminal, and it is a long drive from the parks, 52 km from the Magic Kingdom
Kissimmee Gateway
ISM / KISM
The closest of the four to the parks, 20 km from the Magic Kingdom and 15 km from the convention centre in a straight line. Runways of 6,001 and 5,001 ft (1,829 and 1,524 m), a tower open 07:00 to 22:00, and two handlers, Signature and Velocity Aviation, the second advertising round-the-clock service. We found no customs office on the field, so a party from Britain lands first at Orlando International and takes the short hop afterwards. The area just north of the airport is noise sensitive, and jets are asked to use close-in noise procedures. Suited to light and midsize aircraft
Daytona Beach International
DAB / KDAB
The airport for the Speedway, 78 km north of the middle of Orlando, with a main runway of 10,500 ft (3,200 m) and a second of 6,001 ft. Three handlers are listed: Yelvington Jet Aviation, ATP Jet Center and Sheltair. It is a customs user fee airport, where an officer attends by arrangement, and the customs ramp takes wingspans up to 79 ft, so the larger long-range jets usually clear customs elsewhere. Pilots are asked to use fly-quiet procedures. The Speedway lies close to the field, which is the point of using it in race week
Space Coast Regional, Titusville
TIX / KTIX
The field for the launches, 12 km from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in a straight line and 57 km from the middle of Orlando. A runway of 7,319 ft (2,231 m) with an instrument approach, a second of 5,000 ft, a tower open 07:00 to 21:00 and Space Coast Executive Jet Center as handler. We found no customs office on the field, so a flight from Britain clears at Orlando International or another airport of entry first
Melbourne
MLB / KMLB
A larger field further down the coast, 47 km from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, with a main runway of 10,181 ft (3,103 m) and a tower open 06:00 to 24:00. Sheltair is the handler and lists US Customs service, and the airport is a customs user fee airport, so an international arrival is arranged in advance. Useful for the southern Space Coast and the beaches of Brevard County
Santa Maria, Azores
SMA / LPAZ
Not an Orlando airport at all but the usual fuel stop on the way out for a large-cabin jet that cannot fly the whole distance. The runway is 3,048 m (10,000 ft) long, and the airfield was long a hub for transatlantic flights. Handling, fuel and the stop time are arranged by the operator, and we plan a turn of about an hour

Four details decide most Orlando arrivals:

Choose the handler

Orlando International has two handlers, Signature and Atlantic Aviation, Executive has two, Sheltair and Atlantic, and Kissimmee has two, Signature and Velocity. Fees, lounges and car access differ. We put your preference, or the operator's, in writing. A driver told only Orlando International may wait at the wrong door, so the handler's name goes on the transfer order too.

Hours and customs

At Orlando International the CBP fact sheet lists the entrance and clearance office as open every day from 10:00 to 24:00, with arrival inspection generally from 09:00 to 23:00. Permission to land is requested at least an hour before the aircraft leaves Britain and holds for 30 minutes either side of the stated arrival time. Hours change, so we confirm them for your date. A flight due close to midnight needs a plan made early, and Sanford keeps shorter hours still.

Border and passport

British citizens travel on an ESTA and a valid passport, and the aircraft's crew and passenger details are filed with the US border service before departure from Britain. Customs officers clear the party at the terminal, and we and the handler arrange it beforehand. Details are in the border section below.

Car and the parks

A car from the terminal is the normal plan, and we book it with the handler so the driver is waiting at the right door. In a straight line the Magic Kingdom is 27 km from International and Universal 16 km. A helicopter will not shorten the last stretch to Disney, because the airspace above Walt Disney World is closed to almost all aircraft.

business aviation

Border, passport and US customs

The United States is not in the Schengen area or any shared travel zone with Britain, and every passenger is inspected by US Customs and Border Protection on arrival. British citizens can enter under the Visa Waiver Programme with an approved ESTA for a stay of up to 90 days for business or tourism, and the passport has to be valid for the length of the stay. An approved ESTA does not decide admission: the officer at the terminal does. It can be refused or may not be enough in some cases, for example after an arrest, even without a conviction, after an earlier overstay, or for business done on behalf of a US company, and anyone in doubt applies for a visa instead, which takes longer. Apply for the ESTA well before the day, through the official site only. On a private aircraft the ESTA normally works only if the operator holds Visa Waiver Program carrier status, which we check before we quote.

passport and customs paperwork for a private jet flight

For the aircraft there is a separate set of steps, and our handler and the operator carry them out. The pilot in command files the passenger and crew manifest through the CBP electronic system, no later than 60 minutes before departure from Britain, and must have the approval from the US authorities before the aircraft leaves. Approval of the manifest is not the same as permission to land: the pilot also secures landing rights from CBP. At Orlando International the fact sheet we work from asks the pilot to contact CBP at least one hour before departure from the foreign airport, with a tolerance of 30 minutes either way on the stated arrival time, and the aircraft parks in front of the CBP general aviation facility, where an officer meets it and the whole party is processed inside. Passports, the pilot's licence, the aircraft registration and the crew documents are shown. CBP also asks to be told in advance about live animals, which matters for a dog on board. We confirm the procedure with the operator for each trip, because the rules change and a booking has to follow the text in force, not a memory of it.

The Central Florida fields do not offer the same cover. Orlando International lists customs from 10:00 to 24:00 every day, Sanford keeps shorter hours and takes no diversions, Daytona Beach and Melbourne are user fee airports where an officer attends by arrangement, and we found no customs office at Kissimmee or at Space Coast Regional. A late arrival is therefore usually settled by customs hours, long before anyone looks at the distance to the hotel.

Coming back into Britain brings its own paperwork. British and Irish citizens need no permission to enter, and most other visitors who need no visa still need a UK electronic travel authorisation. The aircraft is covered by a General Aviation Report, filed with the UK authorities between 48 hours and two hours before departure from Florida. A mistake is expensive: £2,500 for a first landing at an aerodrome that is not a regulated one, and £2,000 for every passenger carried without permission. The operator and the handler file the report, and we check that it has gone in.

From the apron to the parks

Orlando is a ring of destinations scattered around the city and not a single centre, and the airport you choose decides which of them is near. The figures below are straight-line distances, which understate the drive but show the order of things.

Orlando International to the middle of Orlando
about 14 km, with the Magic Kingdom 27 km, Universal 16 km, SeaWorld 15 km and the convention centre 15 km from the airport
by road
Orlando Executive to the middle of Orlando
about 5 km, and 15 km to Universal, for a party whose business is downtown
by road
Kissimmee Gateway to the parks
20 km to the Magic Kingdom and 21 km to Universal, the closest field to the resorts
by road
Sanford to the middle of Orlando
about 30 km to the north-east, and 52 km to the Magic Kingdom, so a poor choice for a theme park stay
by road
Orlando International to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
about 62 km east, on Merritt Island; launches are viewed from the Visitor Complex, Titusville or the Beachline, not from the city
by road
Orlando International to Daytona International Speedway
about 87 km north, and Daytona Beach airport lies close to the track
by road

Flying to Orlando with a dog or a cat

The United States asks for little paperwork on the way in and more on the way home. The animal sits with you in the cabin, and the flight is long enough that most dogs sleep through it. What matters is the timing of three documents: the CDC import receipt for a dog, the rabies record that Florida wants to see, and the certificate for the return to Britain, which has a short life.

private flight with animals

What the two countries ask for:

  • For a dog, a CDC Dog Import Form receipt, which is free and covers one dog. The United Kingdom is not on the CDC list of countries at high risk for dog rabies, so the lighter rules apply: the dog must look healthy on arrival, be at least six months old and carry a microchip that a universal scanner can read. A dog from such a country may enter through any port of entry, so Orlando International works;
  • Florida asks for proof of a current rabies vaccination for any dog or cat of three months and older. Its health certificate requirement does not apply to a privately owned pet travelling with its owner;
  • For the return to Britain, the United States is a "part 2" listed country: a Great Britain pet health certificate completed by an official vet and dated in the ten days before arrival, with a pet passport or animal health certificate not accepted. The rabies vaccination must be at least 21 days old, and the microchip must have been fitted before or at the same time as the vaccine. The official text lists no blood test for these countries;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain. Cats are exempt. No more than five animals per traveller.

What catches owners out on the Orlando run

– The certificate for the way home has to be dated inside ten days of arrival, so a two-week stay means a vet appointment in Florida, and the tapeworm treatment has its own window of 24 to 120 hours before landing. Book both before you leave Britain;

– A dog under six months old cannot enter under the CDC rule, so a puppy is a reason to move the trip and not the paperwork;

– Orlando is hot and humid through the summer, and an animal waiting on an apron suffers sooner than a person. Plan the walk before departure, and check that the hotel, the resort and any helicopter operator accept the animal separately.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken. We also confirm in writing the entry point and the paperwork for the animal on the way back into Britain.

The Orlando calendar: the parks, the race and a hurricane season

The theme parks never close, so Orlando has no off-season in the usual sense, and the weeks that matter to a charter are the ones with a sporting or trade event attached. Winter and early spring carry the Daytona 500 and the golf, the autumn carries a large trade show, and the summer carries the storms. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

February
Daytona 500 week at Daytona International Speedway, the season-opening NASCAR race, about 80 km north of Orlando. Daytona Beach fills with private aircraft, and one FBO there has reported handling more than a hundred flights tied to the race, so parking and handlers tighten for several days
March
The Arnold Palmer Invitational, a PGA Tour event played every March at Bay Hill Club and Lodge, a suburb south-west of Orlando. Golf parties and corporate hosts arrive from Europe and the rest of America, and cars and rooms near the course go early
June to November
Hurricane season, officially from 1 June to 30 November. Orlando lies inland, about 68 km from the Atlantic coast, and storms usually weaken before they reach it, but they can still close airports and keep an aircraft away for days. The wet season brings afternoon thunderstorms almost daily, which delay arrivals and ground helicopters. A fixed-date trip in these months needs a flexible fallback
November
IAAPA Expo, the attractions industry trade show held at the Orange County Convention Center, the second-largest convention complex in the United States by space. The show is closed to the public, typically draws tens of thousands of industry delegates, and its dates are fixed by the organisers
November to April
The dry and milder season, and the best weather for flying and for a day in the parks. Most of the events above fall inside it, so the winter is also when aircraft, rooms and cars are hardest to find

Why an event week costs more

The flight itself costs what it always does. The long-range fleet that can cross the Atlantic is much smaller than the Europe-only fleet, and the aircraft that suit Orlando are wanted on the same days from New York and Europe. What tightens is parking at the handlers, the better cars and the crew duty hours. A booking made a fortnight before Daytona 500 week can still be done, but it pays more and may mean an aircraft brought across the ocean empty. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside the peaks a crossing can usually be arranged within a few days.

Ways to bring the Orlando price down

  • Pick the aircraft for the ocean, not for the cabin photographs. A Challenger 605 with a stop in the Azores costs noticeably less than a long-range jet and takes about two hours longer in the air, plus the ground time; for four people that is a fair trade;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A long-range jet coming from London needs less positioning than one coming from Dubai or the American west coast, and on a transatlantic sector positioning is a large share of the bill;
  • Be flexible by a day or two. A flight that avoids Daytona 500 week and the March golf is easier to price, and a return that fits an empty leg is cheaper than a fresh charter.

Types of flights

Orlando produces its own mix of trips, because it is a family destination, a launch site, a convention town and a golf resort at the same time.

  • Family holidays from Britain, to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld, usually with a rented villa and a long list of luggage, often combined with a cruise or a few days on the Gulf coast;
  • Space Coast trips, to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and the launch viewing, and to Port Canaveral, a cruise port with some of the busiest cruise terminals in the world;
  • Motorsport weekends, from Daytona 500 week to the other race dates at the Speedway, which tie the flight to a date set by the organisers;
  • Golf and conventions, from the Bay Hill week in March to the trade shows at the Orange County Convention Center, with small delegations and tight schedules;
  • Onward journeys to the Bahamas, Miami, Tampa and the north-east, using Orlando as the port of entry to the United States and a lighter aircraft from there.

One-way or return deserves a second look. Over this distance a return within the week is priced as two separate sectors plus the crew's rest and hotel in Orlando, so we quote both versions. For a short stay, keeping the aircraft in Florida and flying home on the third day usually beats flying it back empty and fetching it again, while after a week or more two one-way charters are simpler than a jet standing idle.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight that nobody is paying for, offered to a passenger at a fraction of the normal price. In Florida the supply follows the season more than the volume of traffic, and it helps to know where it comes from.

Where Orlando empty legs come from

– Event weeks. Aircraft arrive full for Daytona 500 week or the golf and leave empty a day or two later, so the northbound and eastbound sectors both appear in the days after;

– Transatlantic positioning. A long-range jet that has taken a family from London to Orlando often has to return, and that empty crossing is the one most worth looking for;

– Florida rotation. Aircraft based in the state and in the north-east move between Orlando, Miami, Tampa and New York, and the short legs between them can be cheap.

The long-range fleet is small, so a client who can offer three days stands a much better chance than one who needs a particular evening. The price of the discount is control: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can disappear when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag an Orlando match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Orlando a helicopter is a tool for the Space Coast and the occasional business hop, and not for the theme parks. A permanent FAA restriction closes the airspace around Walt Disney World, three miles out and up to 3,000 ft, to everything except military, police and air ambulance flights and the resort's own waivered operations, so a helicopter cannot take a family to a Disney hotel or fly over the parks. Landing sites in the built-up areas are limited as well, and most helicopter work starts at an airport or a prepared helipad.

Orlando International to Kennedy Space Center
35 nautical miles east to Merritt Island, a day trip for the Visitor Complex and the launch viewing once the landing site is agreed
on request
Orlando Executive to Daytona International Speedway
42 nautical miles north, for race week when the road is slow
on request
Anywhere inside the Walt Disney World airspace
closed by a permanent FAA restriction for a radius of three miles and up to 3,000 ft, with exemptions only for military, police, air ambulance and the resort itself
not possible

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A hotel roof, a marina or a private property needs its landing status and the owner's consent confirmed before the quote, not after;

– Weather sets the schedule. Summer thunderstorms and tropical systems can ground a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– For Daytona 500 week and the launch days, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.

For scenic work the usual choice is the Airbus H125, for longer transfers the roomier H130, and where a twin is wanted the H135 or the Bell 429. We book the helicopter alongside the jet, so that both crews follow one timetable.

Orlando charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

NONSTOP · THE LONG-RANGE CABIN

Six people, one stretch of the Atlantic

Farnborough - Orlando International, Bombardier Global 6000, about 8 h 40 min · 6 pax

A family party leaving mid-morning and landing around lunchtime, with a rented villa near the parks waiting. The reason for the larger cabin was less the seats than the luggage and the wish to cross without a stop. They parked at the customs facility, cleared the border inside the terminal and were in the car within a short time of the aircraft door opening.

AZORES STOP · THE SENSIBLE COMPROMISE

Four people, a Challenger and an hour on Santa Maria

Biggin Hill - Orlando International, Bombardier Challenger 605, about 10 h 40 min plus a stop · 4 pax

A smaller party that wanted to keep the budget down. The aircraft cannot fly the whole distance against the usual westbound wind, so the quote included a stop in the Azores, a turn of about an hour with fuel and a stretch of the legs. The saving over a long-range jet was large enough that nobody argued about the extra hours.

RACE WEEK · FIXED DATES

A group for the Daytona 500

London Luton - Orlando International, Gulfstream G550, about 8 h 40 min · 8 pax

The date was set by the race and not by the client. Eight people, a hospitality package at the Speedway and a request for a quiet arrival. The aircraft cleared customs at Orlando International, the group drove north the next morning, and the return was booked at the same time, which kept the crew on the ground in Florida for the week.

THE LAUNCH · A DAY ON THE SPACE COAST

A client who wanted to see a rocket go up

Stansted - Orlando International, Bombardier Global 6000, about 8 h 45 min · 5 pax

They asked to land at the small airport nearest the launch pads. That field has no customs office that we could find, so we explained the trade, cleared at Orlando International and arranged the drive east. The viewing spot, the car and the day's schedule were agreed before departure, and the change of plan took one phone call.

A DOG ON BOARD · TWO PIECES OF PAPER

Three adults and a labrador for a ten-day stay

Edinburgh - Orlando International, Gulfstream G550, about 8 h 20 min · 3 pax + dog

The CDC Dog Import Form receipt was ready before departure, and the Great Britain pet health certificate for the way home had to be dated inside ten days of the return flight. The tapeworm treatment fell between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain. The vet appointments were booked in Florida before the family flew out, and the dog slept most of the crossing.

EMPTY LEG · THE WAY HOME

A jet already going your way

Orlando International - London Stansted, Bombardier Global 6000 empty leg, about 7 h 25 min · 4 pax

The aircraft had brought a party over for a long weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for an eastbound night departure that landed in Britain in time for breakfast.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Orlando

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Orlando?

About 8 h 40 min nonstop in a Global 6000 from Farnborough, and a little less from Edinburgh or Glasgow in a Gulfstream G550. A Challenger 605 needs a stop in the Azores and takes about 10 h 40 min in the air plus an hour on the ground. The routed distance to Orlando International is between 3,721 and 3,932 nautical miles depending on the British airfield, and Orlando is five hours behind Britain for most of the year.

2How much does a private jet to Orlando cost?

From about £87,800 one way for a Challenger 605 from Biggin Hill with a stop in the Azores. A nonstop long-range jet starts from about £106,400 from Farnborough and £104,300 from Manchester, and a Gulfstream G550 from Edinburgh starts from about £107,450. Event weeks in February and March cost more, and an empty leg can cost far less. The calculator on this page gives an indicative figure for your dates.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Orlando?

Orlando International (MCO / KMCO) for most trips. It is about 14 km from the middle of Orlando, has two handlers, Signature and Atlantic Aviation, a customs facility for general aviation and a longest runway of 12,005 ft. Orlando Executive (ORL / KORL) is the city field for light and midsize jets, Kissimmee (ISM / KISM) is the closest to the parks, and Sanford (SFB / KSFB) has shorter customs hours. Daytona Beach and Space Coast Regional serve the Speedway and the launches, and we choose by your destination and by customs hours.

4Do British passengers need a visa or an ESTA to fly to Orlando?

British citizens need no visa for business or tourism for up to 90 days, but they need an approved ESTA and a passport valid for the length of the stay. An approved ESTA does not guarantee entry, and it may not be enough for business done on behalf of a US company or after an arrest or an earlier overstay. The pilot files the passenger manifest before departure and customs clears the party at the private terminal. Apply for the ESTA through the official site only, and well ahead of the flight. On a private aircraft it normally works only if the operator holds Visa Waiver Program carrier status, which we check before we quote.

5Can I fly on from Orlando to Miami, the Bahamas or New York?

Yes, and a smaller aircraft is the usual choice for the second leg. Tampa is 73 nautical miles away, from £3,100 in a Pilatus PC-12, Miami Opa-locka is 168 nautical miles, from £3,100, Nassau is 301 nautical miles and a Citation CJ3+ starts from £5,300, and Teterboro near New York is 860 nautical miles, from £18,000 in a Citation Latitude. A foreign aircraft may carry passengers within the United States only if they arrived on it from abroad or leave on it for abroad, so some domestic legs are flown by a US-registered aircraft.

6Can I take my dog to Orlando on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you. Going out you need a CDC Dog Import Form receipt, and the dog must be at least six months old, healthy and microchipped; Florida also wants proof of a current rabies vaccination. For the return, the United States is a part 2 country: a Great Britain pet health certificate dated in the ten days before arrival, a rabies vaccine at least 21 days old, and for dogs a tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork in writing for your dates.
