Private jet charter in Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea lies on the far side of the planet from London, about 7,800 nautical miles away in a straight line, and no business jet in our catalogue covers that distance without landing, so the fuel stop is the first thing we plan. Private Jets UK files the landing permit and finds a handler on the ground. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Papua New Guinea that means landing permits arranged well ahead of the date, a handler booked at Port Moresby, and a clear answer on which of the country's few jet-capable airfields suits the trip.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter to Papua New Guinea depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Stansted, a Gulfstream G650ER to Port Moresby with one technical stop in Singapore and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Papua New Guinea?
Most of Papua New Guinea keeps Greenwich Mean Time plus ten hours all year, which puts it nine hours ahead of London in summer and ten in winter. The figures below start at London Stansted, use the lowest-priced aircraft that can fly each sector and count about an hour on the ground for the technical stop:
8,851 nautical miles planned via Singapore, the capital and the only airport of entry for a jetabout 19 h 05 min
8,937 nautical miles planned via Dubai, the north-coast port, on a G550 with a customs approvalabout 19 h 35 min
Why the planned distance is longer than the map
Measured along a straight line, Port Moresby is about 7,800 nautical miles from London. That figure never appears in a quote. The jet follows airways open to a British operator and lands where the next leg is in range, and for Papua New Guinea that means Singapore. Flown that way the sector measures 8,851 nautical miles, and every price on this page is built on that distance.
The Gulfstream G650ER is rated at 7,500 nautical miles and we plan each leg at no more than about 90 percent of that. Stansted to Singapore is 6,080 nautical miles, inside the limit, and leaves 2,771 for the second leg. A stop in Dubai is the alternative, 3,066 nautical miles out and 5,974 on, and it raises the G650ER price to about £283,800.
Gulf airspace can change at short notice, so the plan names both stops and we choose close to the departure date.
What the clock says on arrival
A G650ER that leaves Stansted at midday, British summer time, takes about 19 h 05 min to Port Moresby including the stop and touches down at about four in the afternoon the next day, local time, with daylight left for the transfer. Leave in the evening and the same aircraft lands after midnight. A night arrival means a night drive through the capital, so we normally time the departure for the first hours of daylight.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Prices for the private jet flights to Papua New Guinea
Typical one-way prices from Britain, cheapest first. The Gulfstream G650ER heads the Port Moresby rows because it reaches the capital with a single stop at a lower hourly rate than the Global 7500, the only other aircraft in our table that can. Every figure includes the stop shown:

What sits outside the figures
– The Lae and Mount Hagen rows are cheaper, about £249,100 and £244,800 on a Gulfstream G550, only because those fields lie closer to Dubai. A foreign aircraft needs prior customs approval to land at a non-international airport, so treat them as options. This page is anchored to Port Moresby, the capital and the only airport of entry;
– Handling at the stop, landing and permit fees in Papua New Guinea, and airport charges are quoted on top. The prices are one-way and include the empty positioning flight home.
Private jet flights within Papua New Guinea and to its neighbours
Port Moresby to Lae is 182 nautical miles, to Mount Hagen 289 and to Rabaul on New Britain 451, while Cairns lies 473 nautical miles from the capital and Honiara in the Solomon Islands 791. The figures show scale rather than a firm quote, because each landing needs a permit and the smaller fields limit the choice of cabin:

Before you plan a loop of the country
– Charter cabotage is strictly enforced. A passenger picked up inside Papua New Guinea cannot board a foreign charter unless they arrived on that aircraft, although dropping guests at several stops is allowed. Domestic hops for new passengers go on a local operator;
– The runways at Tokua and Gurney are 1,720 m and 1,690 m, which rules out most large cabins;
– A flight to Australia or the Solomon Islands adds a second authority and permit, so a multi-country itinerary is drawn up in full at the start.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Papua New Guinea:
Ultra-long range
The cabins that reach Port Moresby from Britain with a single stop, where a flat bed is worth paying for on a 19-hour journey.
Long range
The Gulfstream G550 and the Global 6000 need two stops to reach Port Moresby, but a G550 can reach Lae and Mount Hagen.
Super-midsize and midsize
Right for the hop from Port Moresby to Lae, Alotau or Cairns, and for the fields with runways under 1,800 m.
Light jets
The aircraft for the shortest hops, such as Port Moresby to Lae or Lae to Mount Hagen.
Turboprops
For short regional hops and unsealed or short strips, subject to the permit.

Business aviation airports in Papua New Guinea
A foreign aircraft lands only where its permit says it may, so the airport is chosen together with the permit. Port Moresby takes every international arrival, and the other fields are reached from there or by special approval:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Port Moresby Jacksons International AYPY / POM |
about 8 km from the city centre, 38 m (about 124 ft) above sea level, on the Coral Sea coast | The country's only airport of entry for a jet and our price anchor. One asphalt runway, 14L/32R, 2,750 m by 45 m; a shorter parallel runway of 1,300 m is listed and reported closed. The airport is listed as open round the clock, with customs, immigration and Jet A-1, but older logistics data show customs windows of 08:30 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00, so the handler confirms cover for the arrival time in writing. There is no hangar or de-icing for visitors. Operators report windshear on the approach to runway 14L in gusty weather and high ground close by. Handlers listed for the field are Aero Adapt, Asia Flight Services and Just Aviation, with trip support also quoted by Swissport Executive Aviation and LFS. Slots are listed as required |
| Lae Nadzab AYNZ / LAE |
about 42 km from Lae, 73 m above sea level | The airport for the port city of the north coast. One asphalt runway, 09/27, 2,439 m, domestic flights only. A foreign charter lands here only with a customs approval. The Foreign Office marks the highway between Lae and Nadzab as a high-risk crime area, so the transfer is arranged in advance |
| Mount Hagen (Kagamuga) AYMH / HGU |
about 13 km north-east of the town, 1,642 m (5,386 ft) above sea level | The second-largest airport in the country and the gateway to the Western Highlands. Runway 12/30 is 2,190 m by 30 m, with a shorter runway, 08/26, of 1,097 m. The air is thin at that altitude, so take-off weights are planned with care. A foreign jet needs a customs approval to land |
| Tokua (Rabaul and Kokopo) AYTK / RAB |
on the Gazelle Peninsula of New Britain, 10 m above sea level | One asphalt runway, 10/28, 1,720 m by 28 m, for light and midsize jets. It replaced the airfield at Lakunai, which lay at the foot of the Tavurvur volcano and was destroyed by an eruption that also destroyed the old town. An eruption has closed the airport for a day |
| Gurney (Alotau) AYGN / GUR |
serving Alotau on Milne Bay, close to sea level | One asphalt runway, 09/27, 1,690 m, a former Allied wartime strip. It is the arrival point for the Milne Bay dive resorts and the November canoe festival, and suits light and midsize jets only |
Six rules shape every arrival:
Landing and overflight permits
Landing permits are needed for private non-revenue and charter flights, and an overflight needs its own. Trip-support companies advise five to seven business days, with slower processing from September to December.
Customs approval elsewhere
Port Moresby is the one airport with full-time customs, immigration and quarantine. Landing anywhere else needs prior approval from Customs, at least five clear working days ahead for a private flight with fewer than ten people aboard and at least 30 days for a larger party.
Papers that must match
Customs expects three hours' notice of arrival and a full advance passenger information report for everyone aboard, with names, passport numbers and registration identical on every document.
Spraying the cabin
Operators report that the cabin is disinsected at the top of descent with a WHO-approved insecticide. The captain records the can's serial number on the general declaration and hands the empty can to quarantine.
Fuel and parking
The fuel trucks at Port Moresby are small and slow, so a fuel release goes to the handler and the supplier at least 48 hours ahead. Parking is tight from September to December, and we have it confirmed in writing.
Ground transport
The Foreign Office reports a high risk of serious crime in Port Moresby, Lae and Mount Hagen. We book a prepaid car and driver from the aircraft door and a hotel with its own security.
Arriving from Britain: visa, arrival card and what to carry
The traveller, the aircraft and the papers that tie them together are all checked on the way in.
British citizens need a visa, applied for online through the Immigration and Citizenship Authority or at an embassy, or issued as a tourist visa on arrival at Port Moresby, where an onward ticket may be asked for. A business visitor needs a letter from a sponsor in Papua New Guinea, and the single-entry business visa, valid for up to 30 days, is listed at US$190before departure
Valid for at least six months after the date of arrivalevery passenger
A free online card, completed within 72 hours before arrivalcomplete it
Strict. Many fruits, vegetables and animal products are banned, and anything prohibited or dutiable is declareddeclare it
A yellow fever certificate is needed when the traveller comes from a country with a risk of transmissioncheck the route
Cover that includes medical evacuation matters, because medical facilities are described as very basic and serious cases go by air ambulance to Australiabefore departure
What the British government says about the country
The Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to Hela and Southern Highlands provinces because of the high risk of tribal fighting, and to Enga Province except Wabag District. It also reports a high risk of serious crime in Port Moresby, Lae and Mount Hagen, and warns that earthquakes are a serious risk and that flights are often delayed or cancelled.
Travel insurance can be invalidated by travel against that advice, so we read it before a route is fixed.
Coming home is a flight into Britain: a General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation for Britain. The first landing must be at an aerodrome that is regulated for customs, since a landing at an unregulated one carries a fine of £2,500.

Which airport for which part of Papua New Guinea
Start from the bed and work back to the runway:
The capital, the hotels and the start of the Kokoda Track at Owers' Corner, about 50 km east of the city. Business visitors are nearly always herePort Moresby
The port city of the north coast. The runway at Nadzab is long, but it lies far from the cityPort Moresby, then Lae by domestic hop, or Lae with approval
The Mount Hagen Show and the roads towards the gas fields of Hela and Southern Highlands, which the Foreign Office advises against visiting except for essential travelMount Hagen, with approval
Rabaul and Kokopo, with a volcano, a sheltered harbour and the Mask FestivalTokua
The reefs and islands of the south-east, the Tawali dive resort and the Kenu and Kundu festival in AlotauGurney
Port Moresby, the Highlands and the reefs: what our clients go for
Most business travellers come for the resource sector. The PNG LNG project, led by ExxonMobil, draws gas from the fields of Hela and Southern Highlands and ships it to Asian customers, and the Ok Tedi mine in the west is another long-standing project. Contractors, lenders and officials meet in Port Moresby, where the national parliament sits and where about 757,000 people live.
Hotels cluster in two places. The Airways Hotel & Residences stands less than five minutes from the airport and the Gateway Hotel & Apartments is close to it, while the Stanley Hotel & Suites in Waigani and the Hilton in Hohola sit next to shopping and convention space.
Leisure clients come for a country with about 840 living languages, the 4,509 metre summit of Mount Wilhelm and long coral coasts. The Kokoda Track is the best known walk: 96 km through the Owen Stanley Range, between Owers' Corner and the village of Kokoda, usually four to twelve days, with a permit from the Kokoda Track Authority and a licensed operator.
Papua New Guinean seasons: a dry winter and a wet summer
The weather decides the diving, the roads and the mornings on which a mountain strip is usable:
The dry season in Port Moresby, with highs of about 28 to 32 degrees Celsius. The easier months for the capital and the Kokoda Trackdry season
The wet months, when the capital receives most of its roughly 900 millimetres of rain. The cyclone season of the wider region runs from December to Marchwet season
The best visibility for the dive resorts of Milne Bay. Rabaul dives best from April to early Januarydiving
Weather is a scheduling fact
Cloud typically builds over mountain country through the day, so we plan domestic hops for the morning, name an alternate for every sector and give guests a spare half day in the wet season. September to December is also the busy time for permits and for parking in the capital, so a trip in those months is booked early.
The Papua New Guinean calendar: shows, masks and canoes
Most of the great gatherings are held once a year at a fixed time of the season, though exact dates are announced locally, so the months below are typical:
Why a show week costs more
Not for the flying, but for rooms, cars and permits. The Highlands shows draw crowds, and permits typically take longest from September to December, so the date is fixed and the permit requested weeks ahead.

Flying to Papua New Guinea with a dog or a cat
A dog or cat can fly to Papua New Guinea in the cabin, but the paperwork starts weeks ahead, the animal may spend time in quarantine, and the way home is the harder half.
What Papua New Guinea asks for on the way in
The authority is the National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority. Guides for pet owners typically list an ISO microchip, a rabies vaccination from 12 weeks of age and at least 21 days before travel, a government-endorsed health certificate issued within 10 days of arrival, and an import permit obtained before the animal travels, for a cat at least four weeks ahead. A dog is typically held in quarantine in Port Moresby at the owner's cost, for 30 days or longer depending on its country of origin, while a cat with complete papers typically is not. Animals enter through Jacksons International only.
The conditions depend on the origin. The published conditions for dogs from Australia, for example, name a quarantine station in Port Moresby and allow arrival on certain weekdays only. Because the guides we found are secondary, we obtain the conditions for a dog or cat from Britain from the authority and the handler in writing before the animal is booked.
Britain's rules for the return are stricter. Papua New Guinea is not on Britain's list of countries with simple pet-travel rules, and for a dog or a cat coming from such a country Britain requires a Great Britain pet health certificate and a rabies blood test:
- A rabies vaccination, then a blood sample at least 30 days later, tested at an approved laboratory for a result of 0.5 IU/ml or higher;
- A wait of three months from the date of the sample before travel to Britain;
- A Great Britain pet health certificate issued within 10 days of arrival;
- For a dog, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain;
- Quarantine for up to four months if the rules are not met.
The sensible plan is to have the sample taken in Britain months before departure. For a private flight we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.
Other destinations, and the general rules for travelling with an animal on a private jet, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a flight the operator has to make anyway, with the cabin vacant, and so it is priced low rather than flown for nothing.
Why empty legs to Papua New Guinea are scarce
– Few aircraft fly to Port Moresby and stay. A jet that delivers a party usually leaves again within a day or two, so the legs worth looking for run out of Papua New Guinea towards Singapore, the Gulf or Britain, or arrive from Australia and Asia;
– A landing permit goes with a date, so a moved leg can mean a fresh application.
A client who can move by a week or two has the best chance. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Papua New Guinean empty legs follows, at roughly 40 percent of a fresh charter:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK (London Stansted) - Papua New Guinea (Port Moresby) | Gulfstream G650ER | 14 seats | £116,750 |
| Papua New Guinea (Port Moresby) - UK (Edinburgh) | Gulfstream G650ER | 14 seats | £117,650 |
| Papua New Guinea (Port Moresby) - UK (Manchester) | Gulfstream G650ER | 14 seats | £117,700 |
| UK (London Biggin Hill) - Papua New Guinea (Port Moresby) | Global 7500 | 14 seats | £126,050 |
| Papua New Guinea (Port Moresby) - UK (London Luton) | Global 7500 | 14 seats | £126,200 |
| UK (Birmingham) - Papua New Guinea (Port Moresby) | Global 7500 | 14 seats | £126,800 |
Reading the empty-leg prices
– The price covers the whole aircraft, not a seat. A Gulfstream G650ER from Port Moresby to Manchester with eight aboard comes to about £14,700 a head;
– The cost to you is flexibility: the date, often the hour, sometimes the airport.

Helicopter charter
In Papua New Guinea the helicopter reaches what the road does not. Operators with a record in the country include:
a charter operator based in Kimbe, West New Britain, with scenic and adventure flights, survey work, search and rescue and medical evacuationKimbe, across the country
operators whose Bell 212 helicopters have been logged at Jacksons InternationalPort Moresby
The time below is our straight-line estimate for a typical turbine helicopter in good visibility, counting a few minutes for start and approach:
the northern end of the Kokoda Track, 47 nautical miles in a straight line, over the Owen Stanley Rangeabout 35 min
Before you plan around a helicopter
In the mountains a helicopter carries less, and cloud in the afternoon can keep it on the ground while a jet lands normally. A flight to the Kokoda Track or the Highlands is planned for the first hours of the day, with a spare day in the programme.
A landing away from an aerodrome needs an authorised site, cleared before we quote, and the operator confirms the payload for the altitude.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Papua New Guinea
1Can a private jet fly from London to Port Moresby nonstop?
No. The planned distance from London Stansted is 8,851 nautical miles, beyond the range of every aircraft we offer, so the best-fitting cabins, the Gulfstream G650ER and the Bombardier Global 7500, land once, normally in Singapore.
2How long does a private jet take from the UK to Papua New Guinea?
About 19 hours 5 minutes to Port Moresby in a Gulfstream G650ER with a stop in Singapore, including the stop. Papua New Guinea is nine hours ahead of London in summer and ten in winter, so the clock moves on during the flight.
3How much does a private jet to Papua New Guinea cost?
From about £278,000 one way from London Stansted to Port Moresby on a Gulfstream G650ER with a stop in Singapore. A Global 7500 costs more, from about £299,650. Handling, landing and permit fees and airport charges are quoted on top.
4Which airport should a private jet use in Papua New Guinea?
Port Moresby Jacksons International: a 2,750 metre runway, customs, immigration and quarantine, and the only airport of entry for a business jet. Lae, Mount Hagen, Rabaul, Alotau and Madang are domestic fields, reached by a domestic flight or by customs approval for a direct landing.
5What permits and visas does a private flight to Papua New Guinea need?
The aircraft needs a landing permit, which trip-support companies advise requesting five to seven business days ahead, and Customs approval at least five clear working days ahead for any other airport. British passport holders need a visa, which can be applied for online or issued on arrival at Port Moresby.
6Can my dog or cat travel with me to Papua New Guinea on a private jet?
Yes, with planning. Papua New Guinea typically asks for an import permit before travel, a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before entry and a veterinary certificate issued within 10 days of arrival, and a dog is typically quarantined in Port Moresby. Coming home, Britain treats Papua New Guinea as a country outside its simple pet-travel list, which means a rabies blood test, a three-month wait and a Great Britain pet health certificate.
