How long does it take to fly to Tenerife?
Just under four hours from London, and that number is the reason Tenerife behaves differently from every other Spanish destination we fly. It is far enough south that the very smallest jets cannot reach it without stopping, and far enough for the aircraft class to matter in a way it never does on a two-hour hop to the Balearics. The range question, and why some quotes jump
Light and midsize jets from the Phenom 300 upwards cover this sector nonstop without difficulty. The very light class does not: a Citation Mustang or a Phenom 100 will put down in Lisbon or Porto for fuel, which adds three quarters of an hour to an hour and turns a straightforward afternoon into a longer one. That is why prices sometimes leap between two aircraft that look similar on paper. A turboprop is the other honest option: a PC-12 makes the island nonstop at a materially lower price, at the cost of nearly two extra hours in the air. Whether that trade is worth it depends entirely on how you value the afternoon.

Why a twenty-minute island hop costs ten thousand euros
Because almost no business aircraft are permanently based in the Canaries. A hop to Gran Canaria or La Palma is a few minutes of flying, but the aircraft has to be brought to the islands and taken away again, and that positioning is what you are paying for. There are two ways round it. If you are already chartering from Britain, adding the island leg to the same trip prices far better than booking it separately, because the aircraft is here anyway. And for La Gomera or El Hierro, where the runways suit turboprops rather than jets, the sensible answer is often not a charter at all: scheduled inter-island flights from the northern airport cost a fraction of it, and the ferry from Los Cristianos reaches San Sebastian in about fifty minutes. We will say which applies to your trip rather than quoting a charter for the sake of it.
Departures to the Spanish mainland, Portugal, Morocco and the rest of Europe are priced on the same basis. On the longer ones the same range logic as the inbound applies in reverse, and because so little of the fleet lives on the island, a return booked together with the outbound is nearly always cheaper than two separate one-way charters.

Light jets that reach it
The entry point for a nonstop Canary flight. Anything smaller than these will stop for fuel on the way, so this is where the sensible list starts rather than where it ends.
Midsize and super-midsize
Four hours is long enough that a stand-up cabin stops being a luxury, and a proper hold matters when the party is bringing golf clubs or dive kit rather than beach bags.
Large cabins
For groups of ten and upwards and for trips that run on to Madeira, Morocco or the mainland afterwards. Also the class most often quoted around Christmas and New Year, when families travel together.
Turboprops
The value route to the Canaries and the only class that reaches the smaller islands directly. Slower by nearly two hours from London, and cheaper by a margin that makes some people think twice.
Helicopters
For the inter-island legs and the parts of Tenerife the roads reach slowly: about twenty minutes to La Gomera, around forty to El Hierro, and a few minutes from either airport to a villa on the coast.
