Private jet charter to Galway
Galway is an hour and twenty minutes from London, and the whole aircraft is priced from around 7,200 GBP one way. The airport carrying the city's name lost its licence more than a decade ago and now sees only flying-club traffic, so every charter to Galway lands at Shannon instead. That turns out to be a gain rather than a loss: Shannon has a 3,199-metre runway, works around the clock without slots or prior permission, and is the only place outside the Americas where a private flight can clear United States immigration before it leaves. The drive from the apron into Galway city takes about an hour up the M18, and the FBOs on the Shannon ramp never close. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Aircraft for this route generally sit at Dublin, Farnborough or the other London fields, and the sector is short enough that positioning rarely dominates the quote. Ground handling runs day and night, so an evening arrival costs nothing extra in waiting.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Galway depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Luton, an Embraer Phenom 300E and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Galway?
Under an hour and a half from London, and well under that from the north and west of Britain. These are block times with taxi and approach counted in rather than airborne minutes. Every route below is measured to Shannon, EINN, because that is where the aircraft actually lands.
| Route | Aircraft | Flying time | Routing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Belfast (EGAA) - Shannon (EINN) 152 nm / 281 km |
Cessna Citation M2 | about 0 h 55 min | Nonstop |
| Manchester (EGCC) - Shannon (EINN) 243 nm / 450 km |
Embraer Phenom 300E | about 1 h 10 min | Nonstop |
| Edinburgh (EGPH) - Shannon (EINN) 275 nm / 510 km |
Cessna Citation XLS+ | about 1 h 15 min | Nonstop |
| London Farnborough (EGLF) - Shannon (EINN) 313 nm / 580 km |
Cessna Citation CJ2+ | about 1 h 20 min | Nonstop |
| London Luton (EGGW) - Shannon (EINN) 318 nm / 589 km |
Embraer Phenom 300E | about 1 h 25 min | Nonstop |
Nothing about the arrival is complicated. Shannon sits on flat ground beside its estuary with no terrain worth the name, needs neither a slot nor prior permission, and keeps its tower and its customs desk staffed at every hour of the year. Delays on this sector come from British departure slots far more often than from anything at the Irish end.

Two things that move the price on this route
The first is how short the sector is. Belfast to Shannon takes under an hour and Manchester barely more, which means crew duty and landing fees make up a larger share of the total than they would on a two-hour flight. A bigger cabin therefore costs proportionally less here than it does on a long leg, and stepping from six seats to nine is often a smaller jump than clients expect.
The second is the return. Shannon places no restriction on how long an aircraft may stay, so on a two or three-day trip the aeroplane can simply wait rather than flying home empty and coming back. That removes two positioning sectors from the quote, and it is worth asking us to price both ways round. A repositioning flight already crossing the Irish Sea turns up on our empty legs list at a fraction of the charter rate.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Private jet flights to Galway from Europe
Shannon sits at the western edge of Europe, so continental sectors run longer than the British ones. These are the routes we are asked for most often.
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paris Le Bourget - Shannon 485 nm / 898 km |
Cessna Citation CJ2+, up to 6 passengers | about 1 h 45 min | from 8,200 GBP |
| Amsterdam - Shannon 500 nm / 926 km |
Embraer Phenom 300E, up to 8 passengers | about 1 h 50 min | from 9,600 GBP |
| Brussels - Shannon 509 nm / 942 km |
Embraer Phenom 300E, up to 8 passengers | about 1 h 50 min | from 9,800 GBP |
| Frankfurt - Shannon 673 nm / 1,247 km |
Cessna Citation XLS+, up to 9 passengers | about 2 h 15 min | from 12,700 GBP |
| Geneva - Shannon 701 nm / 1,299 km |
Cessna Citation XLS+, up to 9 passengers | about 2 h 15 min | from 13,100 GBP |
| Zurich - Shannon 741 nm / 1,371 km |
Bombardier Challenger 350, up to 9 passengers | about 2 h 20 min | from 16,900 GBP |
| Madrid - Shannon 766 nm / 1,419 km |
Bombardier Challenger 350, up to 9 passengers | about 2 h 25 min | from 17,300 GBP |
| Barcelona - Shannon 818 nm / 1,514 km |
Bombardier Challenger 350, up to 9 passengers | about 2 h 30 min | from 18,000 GBP |
| Munich - Shannon 829 nm / 1,535 km |
Embraer Legacy 600, up to 13 passengers | about 2 h 35 min | from 21,400 GBP |
| Nice - Shannon 841 nm / 1,557 km |
Embraer Legacy 600, up to 13 passengers | about 2 h 35 min | from 21,700 GBP |
Two things worth knowing about these sectors
– Dublin does not appear above, and neither does Knock. Both sit close enough that a charter between them and Shannon buys nothing worth paying for, so we quote a car instead and say so plainly;
– Shannon charges no VAT on fuel and its prices are among the lowest in western Europe, which is why so many transatlantic operators stop here. On a continental sector that advantage lands in your quote rather than in a footnote.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
Hourly rates are the clearest way to see what the aircraft itself contributes. The list runs from the least expensive upwards, and not one line carries an operational caveat, because the runway at Shannon accepts every one of them without qualification.

The cost per hour indicated above is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! – the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6500 business jets of different configurations and production years, and the list is constantly updated. The five groups below are the ones that matter for a flight into Shannon, with the reason each earns its place written under the heading.
Turboprops
Worth quoting on the Irish Sea crossings, where a jet spends more time climbing than cruising. From Belfast, Liverpool or Cardiff a PC-12 arrives only a little behind a light jet and costs appreciably less.
Light jets
The natural choice on a sector this length, and the class that carries most of our traffic to the west of Ireland. Four to six people, golf bags included, and under an hour and a half from the London fields.
Midsize
A stand-up cabin and a proper hold, which on a golfing trip matters more than the extra seats. Nine passengers with nine sets of clubs is the combination this band exists for.

Super-midsize and heavy
For a party of thirteen travelling as one group, or for anyone connecting from a continental sector where the extra range earns its keep. Shannon takes all of it without weight restriction, which is more than any other field in the west of Ireland will accept.
Ultra-long range, and the American connection
The reason Shannon is worth knowing about. A long-range aircraft can clear United States customs and immigration here before departure and then land in America as a domestic arrival, which turns a Galway golf week and a New York meeting into one clean itinerary.
This is only a small part of the fleet open to us. Shannon puts no ceiling on aircraft size, so the choice comes down to your party and your budget rather than to the length of the runway.

Business aviation airports in Galway
Galway is one of the few Irish cities whose own airport plays no role in the answer. The panel below covers the field every charter actually uses, and the note underneath explains what became of the other one.
What happened to Galway Airport, and why it does not matter
The airfield at Carnmore, seven kilometres east of the city, carries the codes GWY and EICM and still appears on booking sites and in a good many broker listings. Its last scheduled service ended more than a decade ago, the aerodrome licence went back to the Department of Transport soon afterwards, and a brief revival under a private operator finished within two years. The runway measures under 1,300 metres and carries flying-club movements only, while the councils that own the site have invited proposals to redevelop it for uses that have nothing to do with aviation.
If a quote names Galway Airport as the destination, that is worth questioning before you sign anything. The practical answer has been Shannon for years, and it is a considerably better airport than the one it replaced: longer runway, full customs at any hour, four competing handlers and no ceiling on aircraft size.

The other fields in range, and what each is genuinely for:
| Field | What it takes and when it suits |
|---|---|
| Ireland West Knock NOC / EIKN, 73 nm |
North of Galway in County Mayo, with a runway long enough for midsize and heavy aircraft. Roughly the same drive time to Galway city as Shannon, and the better choice for Westport, Achill, Sligo and the northern stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way. Opening hours are shorter and customs is arranged rather than standing, so an evening arrival needs checking |
| Dublin DUB / EIDW, 105 nm |
The largest business aviation market in Ireland, with the deepest choice of aircraft at short notice and its own preclearance facility. The drive across to Galway takes around two and a half hours, so it wins mainly when the trip combines the capital with the west, or when nothing suitable is free at Shannon |
| Kerry KIR / EIKY, 38 nm |
South of the estuary and closer to Killarney and the Ring of Kerry than to Galway. The runway handles midsize aircraft comfortably. Sensible for a golfing trip that starts at Ballybunion or Waterville rather than at Lahinch |
| Connemara NNR / EICA, 37 nm |
A small coastal strip west of Galway serving the Aran Islands, with a runway around 600 metres. It takes light aircraft and the island service, not charter jets, and is listed here only so that it can be ruled out |
| Galway Carnmore GWY / EICM, 36 nm |
The former city airport, now unlicensed and used by the local flying club. It appears in booking systems and on older broker pages, which is why clients ask about it. No charter operates there |
Three practical points
– Ireland is in the European Union but outside Schengen, and so is Britain. A flight between the two crosses a customs frontier rather than a Schengen one, and because both countries belong to the Common Travel Area a British passport holder faces no immigration formality at all;
– Shannon places no limit on how long an aircraft may remain, which is unusual and worth using. On a short trip it is frequently cheaper to keep the aeroplane on the ground than to send it home and bring it back;
– The four handlers on the ramp compete with one another, and prices differ. We ask for the quote from more than one rather than defaulting to whichever your operator happens to use.
Passengers are handled in the FBO rather than the main terminal, and half an hour before departure is ample. Because Shannon needs no slot and keeps its desks staffed at any hour, the only thing our consultants confirm against your date is which handler you are using and what the car is doing.
From the apron to Galway and the coast
Shannon sits on the M18 motorway, which runs the whole way north to Galway and onward towards Sligo. Ground journeys in Clare and south Galway are quick and predictable, and the figures below hold outside the Galway race week.
the county town of Clare, fifteen minutes up the roadabout 15 minutes
south-east on the N18, and the nearest city to the airportabout 25 minutes
west across the county, for the links coursesabout 50 minutes
through the Burren, and the busiest sight in the westabout 1 h 00 min
straight up the M18, and the reason most clients comeabout 1 h 00 min
south into Limerick county, for the golf and the manorabout 30 minutes
beyond Galway, out along the coast roadabout 2 h 00 min
south-west into Kerry, where Kerry airport is closerabout 1 h 30 min
Which airport actually shortens your day
For Galway city, the Burren, Lahinch and the Clare coast, Shannon is the correct answer and the margin over Dublin runs to an hour and a half. Knock matches it for Galway itself and beats it comfortably for Westport, Achill and Sligo, so a trip up the northern half of the Wild Atlantic Way is worth quoting both ways. Kerry takes over once the destination is Killarney or the southern links. Tell us where you are actually staying rather than naming the county, and we will quote whichever field puts you at the door first.
Helicopter transfers from Shannon
A rotary leg from Shannon is uncomplicated: low ground, no terrain to speak of and an airport that never closes. The times below are flying minutes and should be read against the road figures above, which on this route are already good.
When the rotary leg earns its cost
Less often than clients expect, and we will say so rather than sell it. The motorway to Galway is fast and the drive is an hour, so a helicopter saves perhaps forty minutes at considerable expense. Where it genuinely pays is the Atlantic edge: Connemara, Clifden and the Aran Islands sit two hours or more away by road and a third of that by air.
The other strong case is a golf itinerary. Lahinch, Doonbeg, Adare and Ballybunion are scattered across three counties with slow roads between them, and a helicopter turns four separate days into one. Landing at the clubs is arranged in advance with each course.
Flying to Galway with a dog or a cat
Ireland reverses the usual pet paperwork. Getting there asks more of you than most European countries do, and coming home asks distinctly less, which catches out owners who have done the continental trip a dozen times.
The rule that catches people out on this route
Ireland belongs to a short group of countries, along with Finland, Malta, Norway and Northern Ireland, that require a tapeworm treatment on the way in rather than only on the way back. A vet has to give your dog a praziquantel treatment between twenty-four and one hundred and twenty hours before you land in Ireland, with the date and time written onto the certificate. Miss the window at either end and the treatment does not count. Owners used to flying to France or Spain, where nothing is asked for on entry, are the ones who arrive without it.
What Ireland asks for on the way in:
- A microchip meeting ISO 11784 or 11785, implanted and readable before the rabies vaccination. The reverse order invalidates the vaccination for travel and the clock starts again;
- Rabies vaccination from twelve weeks of age, with twenty-one clear days between a first course and the flight. A booster inside the validity of the previous one needs no waiting period;
- An Animal Health Certificate signed by an official veterinarian within ten days of departure. An EU pet passport is no longer accepted from an owner resident in Great Britain;
- The tapeworm treatment described above, for dogs, given between one and five days before arrival and recorded on the certificate;
- Advance notice to the Irish agriculture department, so that the compliance check can be arranged at the point of entry. There is no charge for that check on animals arriving from Great Britain.
The homeward leg is where Ireland repays the trouble. Because the island is free of the tapeworm in question, a dog returning to Great Britain directly from Ireland needs no treatment at all, which is the reverse of every continental destination. Cats and ferrets need nothing in either direction beyond the microchip, the vaccination and the certificate.
An hour and a bit from London is about as gentle a journey as a nervous dog will ever have, and a charter removes the hold, the crate rule and the separation at both ends. The wider requirements are set out on our travel with pets page. The one thing to fix in the diary early is the vet appointment, because on this route its timing is dictated by the arrival rather than the departure.
The season in the west of Ireland
The west of Ireland has a long, even season rather than a sharp peak, with one spectacular exception in high summer.
When the west is busy, and what it means for a booking
– The last week of July, when the Galway Races fill every bed and every hire car within an hour of the city. Aircraft, handling and ground transport are all committed months ahead, and it is the single week of the year when Shannon feels genuinely full;
– June through September, the golfing and touring season, when Lahinch, Doonbeg and Adare are at their busiest and the Wild Atlantic Way carries most of its traffic;
– The Galway International Arts Festival in mid-July and the Oyster Festival in late September, both of which move hotel prices more than they move aircraft availability;
– November to March, when the coast is at its most dramatic and almost everything is cheaper. The weather is wetter rather than colder, and Shannon rarely closes for it.
Types of flights
Our company provides all types of business flights. Due to a wide variety of jets, we can arrange:
- private flights;
- corporate flights;
- business class flights;
- concert tours;
- medical flights (with doctors and special equipment on board);
- tourist flights for large and small groups;
- sports charters for teams and coaching staff;
- combined flights (partly by business jet, and partly by helicopter);
- exclusive flights on luxury jets for businessmen, celebrities, and politicians;
- cargo flights, etc.
A flexible approach and a wide experience allow us to solve problems of any complexity. In 90% of cases, we manage to arrange urgent flights (on the day of application). That holds for most of the year on this route, because Shannon needs neither slot nor prior permission. The exception is the Galway Races in late July, when cars, drivers and hotel rooms across the west are committed months ahead, so for that week we recommend sending a request as early as you can.

Empty Legs
Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way. Shannon sees a great many of these because of its transatlantic traffic: aircraft crossing between North America and Europe stop here for fuel and preclearance, and the onward or homeward leg is often flown empty. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.
It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.

Jet Sharing
Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.
We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1200 to 6000 pounds (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.
Main advantages of this service:
- All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
- You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
- No baggage restrictions;
- Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
- Pets can be carried directly in the aircraft cabin.
Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter
Private Jets UK clients have access to a rotary fleet across Ireland. Machines are normally boarded on the apron at Shannon, a short walk from where the jet parks. Where a particular type is based elsewhere we arrange a car to the nearest approved pad.
The types that suit this region, and the job each one does:
- Airbus H125, four passengers with luggage, the least costly way off the Shannon ramp and enough for a couple heading into Connemara;
- Airbus H130, up to six seats, a quieter cabin on the same single-engine platform and the usual answer for a family;
- Airbus H135, six seats, a light twin with the performance to cross open water comfortably, which is what the Aran Islands run asks for;
- Agusta AW109, six seats, faster again and the type we put on a multi-course golf day across Clare, Limerick and Kerry.
Availability turns week by week and the Christmas and February periods commit months ahead. Please contact our aviation consultants for the current position on a particular model and date.

Galway charters we have flown: six trips from the booking notes
These come out of our own booking records, with surnames reduced to initials and small details altered so that no client can be identified. Each was picked because it turned on something specific to the west of Ireland rather than to charter generally.
BOOKING · WRONG AIRPORT
Mr C. F.: the quote that named an airport nobody uses
Luton to Shannon, Phenom 300E, 1 h 25 min · 6 passengers
He arrived with a competitor's quote naming Galway Airport as the destination and asked us to beat it. We could not beat it, because no charter lands there and has not for years. The other broker had taken the code from a database rather than checking the licence. Once the arrival moved to Shannon the two quotes were comparing the same thing, and the hour of motorway was in the plan from the start rather than a surprise on the day.
GOLF · THREE COUNTIES
A Yorkshire golfing society: four courses, one helicopter
Leeds Bradford to Shannon, Citation XLS+, 1 h 15 min · 9 passengers
Nine players with nine sets of clubs, which is exactly what the midsize cabin exists for, and an itinerary covering Lahinch, Doonbeg, Adare and Ballybunion. By road those four fill most of a week in transit. We arranged a light twin from the Shannon ramp with landings agreed at each club in advance, and they played all four in three days.
DOG · TAPEWORM
Mrs P. O.: the treatment nobody had mentioned
Bristol to Shannon, Citation CJ2+, 1 h 10 min · 4 passengers and a setter
She had taken the same dog to France twice and knew the routine, which is precisely the problem. Ireland wants the tapeworm treatment before you land rather than before you come home, and her vet appointment had been booked for the wrong end of the trip. We caught it at the booking stage, moved the appointment to three days before departure and the compliance check went through on arrival without comment.
BUSINESS · PRECLEARANCE
A medical devices manufacturer: Galway in the morning, Boston that night
Shannon to Boston, Global 6000, direct · 8 passengers
Galway has a substantial medical technology cluster and this was a plant visit followed by a board meeting in Massachusetts. Because Shannon holds the only business aviation preclearance facility outside the Americas, the party cleared United States immigration on the Irish ramp and landed in Boston as a domestic arrival. That saved the best part of an hour at the far end and removed the queue entirely.
RACE WEEK · CAPACITY
Mr and Mrs S. M.: the one week Shannon fills up
Biggin Hill to Shannon, Citation XLS+, 1 h 25 min · 5 passengers
They asked in June for the last week of July, which is the Galway Races. The aircraft was straightforward; the ground was not. Cars, drivers and hotel rooms within an hour of the city had gone months earlier. We found a car through a Limerick operator and were honest that the accommodation was beyond us. Next year they booked the whole thing in January.
STAY · NO REPOSITIONING
A Scottish family: the aeroplane that waited
Glasgow to Shannon, Phenom 300E, 1 h 10 min · 7 passengers
A four-day trip to Connemara, quoted initially with the aircraft flying home empty and returning for the pick-up. Shannon sets no limit on length of stay and its parking is inexpensive, so we repriced it with the aeroplane simply waiting. Two positioning sectors came out of the total and the saving ran to a little over two thousand pounds.
Galway and the west of Ireland: destination overview
Galway is the capital of the Irish west and the least formal city in the country. Around eighty thousand people live in it, a large university keeps the population young, and the medical technology industry has quietly made it one of the more prosperous places in Ireland. It sits where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic, it is the official gateway to Connemara and the Burren, and it is the Irish city where you are likeliest to hear the language spoken casually in the street.
Where to stay
The city itself divides between the medieval core around Quay Street and Shop Street, which is walkable and noisy in the best sense, and the quieter stretch out along Salthill on the bay. For a golf trip the better base is often Clare rather than Galway, with Lahinch and Doonbeg within twenty minutes of each other. Anyone here for the landscape should go west into Connemara, where the country houses around Recess and Cashel are two hours from the apron and worth every minute of it.
What to do
Connemara is the reason most people come: bog, quartzite mountains and a coastline that changes by the hour, with Kylemore Abbey and the Sky Road above Clifden as the fixed points. South of the city the Burren is a limestone plateau unlike anywhere else in Europe, and the Cliffs of Moher sit at the end of it. The Aran Islands are a short hop from Rossaveal. In the city, Quay Street after dark is the whole argument for Galway in one narrow lane.
When it is busy
The last week of July belongs to the Galway Races and books out further ahead than anything else in the west. The arts festival in mid-July and the oyster festival in late September fill the city without straining the airport. May, June and early September give the best combination of long days and available beds.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Galway
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Galway?
About 1 hour 20 from Farnborough and 1 hour 25 from Luton or Biggin Hill, over a distance of 313 to 341 nautical miles to Shannon. Belfast takes under an hour, Manchester and Glasgow around 1 hour 10, Edinburgh about 1 hour 15 and Aberdeen roughly 1 hour 30. Add about an hour by road from Shannon to Galway city.
2How much does a private jet to Galway cost?
From about 5,200 GBP one way out of Belfast on a light jet, 6,400 GBP from Bristol and 7,200 GBP from Farnborough. Manchester runs around 7,900 GBP, Birmingham 8,300 GBP and Luton 9,100 GBP on an eight-seat Phenom, while Edinburgh is about 9,900 GBP on a nine-seat Citation XLS+. Those cover the whole aircraft one way, and the Galway Races week prices above them.
3Which airport do private jets use for Galway?
Shannon, SNN or EINN, about an hour south of the city on the M18. Galway's own airport at Carnmore, GWY or EICM, lost its aerodrome licence more than a decade ago and now handles flying-club movements only, so no charter operates there despite the code still appearing in booking systems. Shannon has a 3,199-metre runway, customs and immigration around the clock, no slot or prior permission requirement and four competing FBOs.
4Do British passport holders need a passport or visa for Ireland?
No visa, and no passport requirement in law either, because Ireland and the United Kingdom together form the Common Travel Area and a British or Irish citizen faces no immigration formality in either direction. Ireland is in the European Union but not in Schengen, so the flight crosses a customs frontier rather than a Schengen one. Carrying photographic identification is still sensible, and airlines and handlers will normally ask to see a passport.
5Can I fly on from Shannon to the United States without clearing customs on arrival?
Yes, and it is the main reason business aviation values the airport. Shannon holds the only United States preclearance facility for private aircraft outside the Americas. Passengers and crew complete American immigration, customs and agriculture checks on the Irish ramp before departure, then land in the United States as a domestic arrival with no further processing. The appointment is arranged through your handler in advance.
