Private jet charter in Romania
Leave a London airfield after breakfast and you can be at a Romanian meeting table by mid-afternoon, since Bucharest keeps a clock two hours ahead of Britain and the flight itself takes a little over three hours. Private Jets UK plans these trips around the place you are actually going, because Romania is a big country with its business in the capital, its mountains in the middle and its sea at the far south-eastern edge. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Romania that means two things clients seldom think about early: the landing permit that a British-registered charter aircraft needs from the Romanian authority, and the road after landing, which in the Carpathians climbs past 2,000 metres and in the capital is a matter of traffic more than distance.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Romania depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ nonstop to Bucharest Henri Coanda and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Romania?
Romania runs on Eastern European time, which is two hours ahead of Britain in every season because both change their clocks on the same weekends. The figures below are gate to gate from British airfields to Bucharest Henri Coanda unless another airport is named, with taxiing and the approach included:
nonstop, 1,161 nautical miles with the routing allowance, within a few minutes of the same sector from London Cityabout 3 h 20 min
nonstop, 1,183 nautical milesabout 3 h 25 min
nonstop, 1,274 nautical milesabout 3 h 30 min
nonstop, 1,392 nautical miles, the longest of the regular British departuresabout 3 h 40 min
nonstop, 941 nautical miles, the western gateway saves about 30 minutes against Bucharestabout 2 h 50 min
the airfield lies 16.5 km north of the centre; a railway station beside the arrivals hall runs to the main station in 20 to 25 minutes, about every 40 minutes20 to 25 min by train
Three hours aloft, two hours on the clock
A Citation CJ3+ leaving Biggin Hill at eight in the morning is on the ground in Bucharest at around half past one in the afternoon local time. That allows a meeting the same day and a night in the city.
The planning is at the front of the trip. A British-registered charter aircraft is a third-country operator in Romanian eyes, the permit has to be requested before departure, and the handler needs the crew and passenger details ahead of the landing. We start all three the day the request lands.
Scheduled flight or charter: where the aircraft earns its price
– Wizz Air links Luton with Timisoara, Brasov and Constanta, and Bucharest has a dense timetable of its own, so a single traveller bound for the capital rarely needs a private aircraft for the speed alone;
– The case for a jet is a party of four or more, a destination that has no airline service from Britain (a mountain hotel, a Black Sea villa, a town in Moldavia), or two Romanian stops in one trip, for instance Bucharest and Sibiu. The aircraft lands at the field nearest to where you are going, and in a country this size that choice decides the length of the day.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

What the figures hide and what they include
– The south-east of England is the cheap corner. Biggin Hill on a Citation CJ3+ is £15,250, London City £15,300, Luton on the same type £15,550 and Farnborough on a Phenom 300E £15,600. Move to a midsize Citation XLS+ from Birmingham and the price becomes £20,100, because the hourly rate climbs faster than the speed;
– The destination changes the bill. The same CJ3+ from Biggin Hill costs £13,450 to Cluj-Napoca, £13,950 to Sibiu, £14,600 to Brasov, £15,100 to Iasi and £16,450 to Constanta, and Timisoara in the west is the cheapest at £12,700. Baneasa, the city airport, comes to £15,300. Each quote includes the handler's fee, the landing charges and the permit.

The road from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca runs to about 445 km, and Timisoara is further still, so a domestic charter here saves a working day, not an hour. The table lists typical sectors from the capital:

Reading the sectors
– Turboprops set the domestic price. A Pilatus PC-12 NGX flies Bucharest to Sibiu in about 55 min and to Cluj-Napoca in about 1 h 10 min, and for most of these hops the minimum charge, not the distance, fixes the figure. The jets cover the neighbours: Sofia, Belgrade and Istanbul share one price on a Citation CJ3+ at £5,300, whether the flight takes 55 minutes or 65;
– The second ring starts at Budapest and Vienna and runs to Munich and Nice, and Dubai at £31,200 on a Praetor 600 is the long sector for clients who commute to the Gulf. The mountains are close to the capital by air, about 45 minutes by helicopter to Brasov, so we often fly to Bucharest and finish by rotor.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Romania:
Light jets
The class behind the price in the title. Four to six people reach Bucharest nonstop from the London fields in about three and a half hours, and the same class suits Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu and Timisoara, whose runways are long enough for a jet this size with room to spare.
Midsize
At Henri Coanda the Citation XLS and the Challenger 350 are among the most frequent business visitors, together with the Falcon 2000LX, according to one charter broker's movement counts. A Citation XLS+ or a Latitude gives a standing cabin and a baggage hold that takes skis or golf clubs without a fight.
Super-midsize and large
For delegations, for families travelling with staff and for the northern departures from Scotland and Northern Ireland, where the sector is longest. Bucharest, Timisoara and Constanta each offer a 3,500 m runway, so size is not the limit.
Heavy and ultra-long range
For ten or more passengers, or when Romania is one stop on a longer trip to the Gulf or Asia. A large cabin needs the stand and the ground equipment arranged ahead, not the runway.
Turboprops
The aircraft for the domestic hops between Bucharest, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca and Constanta, and for short trips to the neighbours when speed is not worth a jet's price. Not for the crossing from Britain, where a jet is faster and costs no more.

For a Romanian booking the best aircraft is often not in Romania. The nearest suitable jet may be waiting in Britain or at another European capital, so the positioning leg can move the price more than the choice of model. We look at the whole map before a number goes to the client.

Business aviation airports in Romania
Romania has two airports in Bucharest and four more that take a business jet comfortably: Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Sibiu and Constanta. Brasov-Ghimbav is the mountain option, and smaller fields such as Iasi in Moldavia and Oradea in the north-west can be used, with customs and handling arranged case by case. The hours below are as listed in the aviation directories we use; the exact opening times of customs and of each handler are confirmed in writing before every flight:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Bucharest Henri Coanda OTP / LROP |
16.5 km north of the centre, 96 m (314 ft) above sea level | The country's main gateway and the field for a large jet. Two parallel asphalt runways, 08L/26R and 08R/26L, each 3,500 m, with ILS. Tiriac Air runs a private terminal and hangar, and Romanian Airport Services is listed for executive handling. The directories show the aerodrome and customs open round the clock, no slots and handling compulsory |
| Bucharest Baneasa BBU / LRBS |
about 8 km north of the centre, 91 m (299 ft) above sea level | The city airport, closer to the offices than Henri Coanda. One asphalt runway, 07/25, of 3,100 m. It was a business-only airport after its airline flights moved to Henri Coanda, but low-cost airlines have returned, so a private jet shares the apron with airliners. The listings show customs and immigration round the clock, no slots and optional handling; Euro Jet and Evropa Jet Services appear as agents. Night noise rules apply from 22:00 to 06:00 local time |
| Cluj-Napoca CLJ / LRCL |
about 8 to 9 km east of the city, 317 m (1,039 ft) above sea level | The airport for Transylvania and the second busiest in Romania. A concrete runway listed at about 2,000 m, part of a new strip planned in phases up to 3,500 m. Listed as open round the clock with customs, no slots and handling not mandatory. Evropa Jet Services is a named handler, and no separate business aviation facility is described, so we agree the arrival with the handler beforehand |
| Timisoara TSR / LRTR |
about 12 km north-east of the city, 106 m (348 ft) above sea level | The gateway of the west, close to the Hungarian and Serbian borders. One asphalt runway, 11/29, of 3,500 m, with ILS. Listed as open round the clock with customs, though the administration office keeps 09:00 to 17:00 local time; no slots and handling not mandatory. Euro Jet is a listed agent, and it is the cheapest airport in this list to reach from Britain by our price tables |
| Sibiu SBZ / LRSB |
about 3 km west of the city, 460 m (1,520 ft) above sea level | A compact airport about 3 km from the old town, with a concrete runway, 09/27, of 2,630 m. It is the entry point for the Saxon villages, the Fagaras mountains and the Transfagarasan road. The public sources give no business aviation arrangements, so customs, fuel and the handler are confirmed for each flight |
| Constanta Mihail Kogalniceanu CND / LRCK |
26 km north-north-west of Constanta, 108 m (353 ft) above sea level | The airport of the Black Sea coast, shared between civil and military use. One concrete runway, 18/36, of 3,500 m. Listed as open round the clock with customs, no slots and handling compulsory; Euro Jet keeps a lounge here. The listing carries a prior-permission note of ten days for large aircraft, so a heavy jet is notified well ahead. Wizz Air connects it with Luton |
| Brasov-Ghimbav GHV / LRBV |
at Ghimbav, on the edge of Brasov, 530 m (1,740 ft) above sea level | The newest airport in the country and the nearest to Poiana Brasov and the Bran area. A concrete runway, 03/21, of 2,820 m. Scheduled flights are low-cost and seasonal charters, and the public sources describe no business aviation service, so customs and the handler are checked for the date |
Four things settle most Romanian arrivals before a quote goes out:
The permit: a British charter is a third-country operator
For commercial non-scheduled flights the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority requires a landing permit, with the air operator certificate, registration, airworthiness certificate and insurance behind it. A planning window of 24 to 48 working hours is quoted for a standard request, and we file it with the booking so that a weekend or a public holiday does not eat the time.
The handler: always, even where it is optional
Handling is compulsory at Henri Coanda and at Constanta. At Baneasa, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara the listings call it optional, but the handler also files the general declaration and the lists of crew and passengers, orders fuel and the stand, and meets the party at the aircraft, so we book one at every airport.
The clock: open all night, with rules behind it
The main airports are listed as open round the clock. The restrictions are noise and paperwork, not opening hours: Baneasa limits engine runs and the auxiliary power unit between 22:00 and 06:00 local time, and Timisoara's office hours are 09:00 to 17:00, so a Sunday departure is arranged by the Thursday.
The size: three runways of 3,500 m
Henri Coanda, Timisoara and Constanta each have 3,500 m, Baneasa 3,100 m, Brasov 2,820 m, Sibiu 2,630 m and Cluj-Napoca about 2,000 m. A heavy business liner can use the first three, and the operator checks performance for a hot afternoon at the higher fields.
Henri Coanda or Baneasa: which Bucharest airport
Baneasa is about 8 km from the centre, Henri Coanda about 16.5 km, and at rush hour Bucharest traffic stretches that difference. Baneasa suits a quick visit to the offices in the north of the city and costs about £50 more by our price basis from Biggin Hill. Henri Coanda has the private terminal run by Tiriac Air, two long runways, the heavy-aircraft capacity and the railway link, and it is the field we choose for a large cabin, a delegation or a late-evening arrival, when the Baneasa noise rules apply.
Arriving from Britain: passports, customs and what to carry
Romania applies the Schengen rules, and Britain stands outside them. A flight from London therefore arrives from outside the zone, and the border check takes place at the first Romanian airport on the route. Henri Coanda, Baneasa, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Constanta all have a border post, and with a handler in place the party is processed at the general aviation apron or the executive lounge.
British citizens may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa for business meetings, tourism and family visits; the passport must have been issued less than ten years before arrival and be valid for at least three months after the planned departure from the Schengen areaevery passenger, children included
a photo and fingerprints are taken at the first entry, free of charge, and the record is valid for three years; children aged 11 or under are photographed but not fingerprintedqueues are possible; the lounge keeps them short
whether the EU's online ETIAS authorisation applies to a British passport on your date is checked by us before the offer goes out, not left for the apronwe check for your date
borders by land or river with Bulgaria and Hungary may still bring a passport check, so carry the passport itself on a drive from the western plain or from the Danube townspassport, not a photocopy
a declaration is due at customs when you carry cash or travellers' cheques worth ten thousand in the EU's own currency or more, and you receive a certified copydeclare when in doubt
Aircraft paperwork, goods and the way home
The aircraft brings its own file: a general declaration, a passenger manifest and the crew documents, all of which reach the handler before arrival. Meat, milk and products made from them cannot be brought into the EU, with narrow exceptions for powdered baby milk, baby food, special medical food and pet feed. A party carrying commercial samples or valuables mentions it at the booking.
The flight home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, while most other nationalities do. A passenger who is not British should ask us about the visa and the authorisation at both ends of the trip.

Which airport for which part of Romania
Romania is a country of several centres, and the right airport decides most of the day. The distances below are straight lines from the airport or road figures from public sources, so allow more for mountain roads in winter:
the capital and its business districts; the road from Bucharest to Brasov runs to about 182 km and to Constanta to about 203 kmHenri Coanda or Baneasa
Sinaia, with Peles Castle, is about 96 km from the capital in a straight line, and Poiana Brasov lies 12 km from the city of Brasov, with the top station at 1,799 mBucharest by road or helicopter, or Brasov-Ghimbav
Sibiu has an old town of Upper and Lower Town, Sighisoara a UNESCO citadel about 73 km north-east of the Sibiu airport, and the fortified churches of Biertan are on the UNESCO list; Paltinis, the Sibiu ski area, is about 35 km from the citySibiu
the university city of Transylvania, with the Electric Castle festival at Bontida about 16 km away; the wooden churches of Maramures, a UNESCO group, lie in the northern countyCluj-Napoca
the border country with Hungary and Serbia, a short run for clients who combine Romania with Belgrade or BudapestTimisoara
Mamaia, the resort beside Constanta, is about 16 km from the airport in a straight line; Tulcea, the gate to the Danube Delta, is about 94 kmConstanta
Bucharest, the Carpathians and the Black Sea: what our clients go for
Bucharest is where the business is. The city has about 1.7 million residents and 2.3 million in the wider metropolitan area, and it produces roughly a quarter of the national output, with the headquarters of some 186,000 firms. The Palace of the Parliament, built under Ceausescu, is described as the largest parliament building in the world and houses the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The Old Town of Lipscani keeps Manuc's Inn and the ruins of the princely court, and Herastrau Park in the north holds the open-air village museum.
The mountains are the second reason. Poiana Brasov sits above the city of Brasov at 1,020 m at the base and 1,799 m at the top, with almost 24 km of pistes, the 4,752 m Red Road run and a gondola; snow cover usually lasts from mid-November to mid-March. Sinaia, in the Bucegi mountains, has Peles Castle, the summer residence that King Carol I built in the late nineteenth century, and a cable car that climbs to the upper station near 2,000 m. Predeal lies between the two, and Bran Castle is a short drive from Brasov, so a weekend in the Carpathians is a short job for a helicopter.
Transylvania is the third. Sibiu was settled by Saxon colonists in the twelfth century and was a European Capital of Culture; the Brukenthal National Museum fills a palace on the main square. Sighisoara is a UNESCO citadel, and the fortified churches of villages such as Biertan form another UNESCO group. The Transfagarasan road crosses the Fagaras mountains at 2,042 m beside Balea Lake and is usually closed from late October until late June. Cluj-Napoca, with about 287,000 residents, is the technology and university city.
The east and the coast complete the map. The Danube Delta, a UNESCO site, is the second largest delta in Europe and the best preserved, with 3,446 square kilometres on the Romanian side and more than 320 species of birds in summer; Tulcea is its gate. On the Black Sea the resort of Mamaia lies beside Constanta, and in the north-east the painted churches of Moldavia in Suceava County are a UNESCO group of their own.
The Romanian year: ski winter, festival summer and a long autumn
Romania has no single high season: the capital is busy in every month, the Carpathian snow draws the winter traffic, and the festivals and the sea take the summer:
the ski season at Poiana Brasov, with snow cover usually from mid-November to mid-March; the Transfagarasan is shut, Bucharest is cold, and snow or fog can delay a departureski weekends and city visits
the theatre festival of Sibiu at the end of May, the first warm weeks on the Black Sea shore, and the opening of the Transfagarasan at the end of June in a typical yearspring weekends and Transylvania
the busiest weeks: Electric Castle at Bontida in July, Untold in Cluj-Napoca in early August, the Medieval Festival in Sibiu in August and the beach resorts of the coast; Bucharest is at its hottestfestivals and the sea
the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest in September, every second year, the mountain roads in autumn colour before the Transfagarasan closes, and quiet aprons on the coastmusic, walking and calm airports
The Romanian calendar: festivals, snow and the open road
Dated events are few, and each sends the private flights to one airport:
What a Romanian peak does to a flight plan
The peaks are the festival weekends in July and August, when Cluj-Napoca and Constanta fill with charters, and the ski weekends from December to March, when the roads to the Carpathians slow. A request sent as soon as the dates are known gives the permit and the stand time to line up.

Flying to Romania with a dog or a cat
A dog or cat travels in the cabin, and the paperwork has two halves: the standard European set for the way out and one appointment for the way home. Romania applies the rules of the European Union, and Britain is a listed country, so an animal from Great Britain does not need the blood test and the three-month wait demanded of animals from unlisted countries.
The one fact to read before you book
The animal must carry a microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination, and a rabies vaccination given from the age of 12 weeks, with 21 days to pass before travel, so the youngest animal that can fly is 15 weeks old. An animal health certificate from an official vet is issued for the trip and is valid for ten days for entry. A traveller may bring no more than five pets on a non-commercial journey; a larger group falls under the rules for commercial movements.
The diary matters most on the way home. A dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet no less than 24 and no more than 120 hours before it arrives in Great Britain, with the product, date and time entered in the document, and a cat does not. Romania asks nothing extra for the worming on the way in. Because the window is short, we book a vet near the hotel or near the departure airfield alongside the flight.
- A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination, not after;
- A rabies vaccination given at 12 weeks or later, at least 21 days old on the day of arrival and kept in date;
- An official veterinary health certificate for each trip, issued no more than ten days before entry;
- For a dog on the homeward leg, the tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing in Great Britain;
- Not more than five animals per traveller.
Cats need the same list without the worming. Two Romanian details deserve a check. Pet-travel sources list air entry for animals at Bucharest and at Cluj-Napoca, so we confirm in writing which airport receives the animal and which desk checks the certificate before we fix the route. Romania also restricts certain dog breeds: the listings show pit bull types, the Boerboel and ban dogs as banned, and several shepherd and mastiff breeds as allowed only with a muzzle, so tell us the breed at the booking.
Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species, along with the countries where the timeline runs to months, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On a sector of more than three hours the saving is worth chasing, and Romania produces empty legs of its own, because aircraft that take clients out often have no one to bring back.
Where Romanian empty legs come from
– Business trips to Bucharest, where a jet delivers executives in the morning and goes home in the evening, and aircraft from other European capitals that position to Britain for a client;
– The festival weeks: charters land at Cluj-Napoca in July and early August, and the aircraft often fly back or on to another airport without passengers;
– The ski weekends and the Black Sea summer, when a group arrives at Bucharest or Constanta for a few days and the aircraft returns empty before the group does.
A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though the operator owns the date and a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Romanian empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK (Farnborough) - Romania (Timisoara) nonstop |
Phenom 300E | 8 seats | £5,500 |
| Romania (Cluj-Napoca) - UK (London Luton) nonstop |
Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £5,750 |
| Romania (Bucharest) - UK (London Biggin Hill) nonstop |
Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £6,400 |
| UK (London City) - Romania (Bucharest) nonstop |
Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £6,450 |
| UK (Birmingham) - Romania (Sibiu) nonstop |
Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £7,750 |
| Romania (Bucharest) - UK (Manchester) nonstop |
Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £8,650 |
| Romania (Bucharest) - UK (Bristol) nonstop |
Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £9,050 |
| UK (Edinburgh) - Romania (Bucharest) nonstop |
Challenger 350 | 9 seats | £11,300 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Citation XLS+ from Manchester with eight aboard comes to about £1,100 a head;
– A Romanian sector is long enough for the discount to be real, but a leg to Sibiu or Constanta is rarer than one to Bucharest, and the date usually decides.

Helicopter charter
In Romania a helicopter saves the road between the airport and the mountain or the beach, not the crossing from Britain. These are our estimates for the main transfers, calculated at about 115 knots with a few minutes for the start and the landing:
Peles Castle and the Bucegi slopes, instead of a road through Ploiestiabout 35 min
the ski resort above Brasov, against a road of about 182 km to Brasov aloneabout 45 min
the UNESCO citadel on the other side of the Transylvanian plateauabout 30 min
the ski area in the hills south-west of the cityabout 15 min
the resort strip beside the city, a short hop from the airportabout 15 min
the gate to the Danube Delta, for a morning on the waterabout 35 min
These are estimates and move with the weather and the load; we confirm the details for your date before the offer goes out.
Two points on Romanian rotary legs
A helicopter that lands away from an airfield needs a site that the operator and the landowner have agreed, and a flight into the Carpathians in winter depends on cloud and wind on the day, so a clear weather window has to be kept for the same hours as the aircraft. At festival time and on ski weekends the seats go first, so the helicopter and the jet are booked together, with the road transfer as the fallback.

Romanian charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
BUCHAREST · TWO DAYS OF MEETINGS
Two directors and a board meeting the next morning
Biggin Hill - Bucharest, Citation CJ3+, about 3 h 20 min · 2 pax
Wheels up at eight, on the ground at Henri Coanda in the early afternoon, a car from the private terminal to the hotel and a night in the city. The board met the next morning, and the aircraft left for Britain before lunch with the permit and the handler already in place.
POIANA BRASOV · THE SKI WEEK
Six friends with skis and an early-February date
London Luton - Bucharest, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 20 min · 6 pax
The party landed at Henri Coanda and went on to the mountains on a booked transfer, a road of some 182 km to Brasov before the last stretch up the hill. The skis travelled in the baggage hold of the midsize cabin.
MAMAIA · THE BLACK SEA
A family of four in the second week of July
London City - Constanta, Citation CJ3+, about 3 h 35 min · 4 pax
Constanta put the family close to the beach strip instead of a drive of about 203 km from Bucharest. The handler is compulsory there, so it was booked with the aircraft.
CLUJ-NAPOCA · FESTIVAL WEEKEND
Four friends and a long weekend in early August
Farnborough - Cluj-Napoca, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 50 min · 4 pax
Cluj-Napoca is the airport for the festival, and a charter takes the pressure off a weekend when the scheduled seats sell out.
WITH THE DOG · TAPEWORM FIRST
A couple and a labrador on a long weekend
Southampton - Sibiu, Phenom 300E, about 3 h · 2 pax + dog
The certificate was dated six days before departure, the breed was declared at the booking, and a vet in Sibiu gave the tapeworm treatment on the Friday afternoon, inside the window for the Sunday flight home.
EMPTY LEG · AFTER THE MEETINGS
A flexible return to London
Bucharest - London Luton, Citation CJ3+ empty leg, about 3 h 25 min · 3 pax
The client gave us a window of two days instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £6,550, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a Wednesday departure.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Romania
1How long does it take to fly to Romania by private jet?
About 3 hours 20 minutes from Biggin Hill to Bucharest in a Citation CJ3+, about 3 hours 30 minutes from Manchester in a Citation XLS+ and about 3 hours 40 minutes from Glasgow in a Challenger 350. Romania is two hours ahead of Britain all year, so a morning departure lands in the early afternoon local time.
2How much does a private jet to Romania cost?
From about £15,250 one way from Biggin Hill to Bucharest on a Citation CJ3+, £15,300 from London City and £15,550 from Luton. A Citation XLS+ from Manchester is about £20,550 and a Challenger 350 from Glasgow about £27,550. Other Romanian airports differ: from Biggin Hill a CJ3+ to Cluj-Napoca is about £13,450, to Timisoara about £12,700 and to Constanta about £16,450.
3Which airports do private jets use in Romania?
Bucharest Henri Coanda is the gateway for large jets, with a private terminal run by Tiriac Air, two runways of 3,500 metres and handling that is compulsory. Baneasa is the city airport, about 8 km from the centre. Cluj-Napoca serves Transylvania, Timisoara the west, Sibiu the old towns and the Fagaras road, and Constanta the Black Sea coast, with Brasov-Ghimbav as the newest field near the ski resorts.
4What are the passport and customs rules for a private flight from Britain to Romania?
Romania applies the Schengen rules. British citizens may stay up to 90 days in any 180 without a visa, and the passport must be less than ten years old on arrival and valid for three months after departure. Photos and fingerprints are taken under the Entry/Exit System. A declaration is due for cash worth ten thousand in the EU's currency or more. A British-registered charter aircraft is a third-country operator and needs a landing permit from the Romanian civil aviation authority, which we file with the booking.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Romania?
Yes. The animal needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination given from 12 weeks and valid after 21 days, and an official health certificate issued within ten days before entry. A dog coming home needs a tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before it lands in Great Britain, so we book a vet for the day before the flight. Some dog breeds are restricted in Romania, and we confirm in writing which airport receives the animal.
6How early should I book a private jet to Romania?
As soon as the dates are known, and at least a few working days ahead, because the landing permit request needs a planning window of 24 to 48 working hours. The ski weekends from December to March, the festival weeks of July and August at Cluj-Napoca and the summer weekends on the Black Sea coast fill the aprons first.
