Private jet charter in Saudi Arabia

A business jet leaving London needs 6 hours 30 minutes to reach Riyadh without a stop, yet the Kingdom covers more than two million square kilometres, and the capital is only one of several places where a flight can end. That is why a Saudi charter starts with the destination: the capital, the Red Sea coast, the desert heritage of AlUla and the Eastern Province each sit on a different airport, and the airports differ in what they can handle for a private jet. Private Jets UK plans these flights from the aircraft outwards: first the cabins that can cover 2,753 nautical miles, then the landing permit that the Kingdom asks for before the aircraft leaves Britain, then the handler who meets your passengers on the apron. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Saudi Arabia that comes down to a permit, a named handler, a visa for every passenger and a plain reading of the British government's travel advice before anyone fixes a date.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Saudi Arabia depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Praetor 600 flying nonstop to Riyadh King Khalid International and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia keeps one clock all year, three hours ahead of Greenwich with no summer change, so the gap to Britain is three hours in winter and two in summer. The sectors below are flown by a Praetor 600 from the British airfields our clients ask for most, measured to King Khalid International, the airport most Saudi charters use:

Biggin Hill to Riyadh
2,753 nautical miles, the shortest of the usual London options and the basis of the price at the top of this page
about 6 h 30 min
London Stansted to Riyadh
2,757 nautical miles, almost level with Biggin Hill, and handier for East Anglia and the City
about 6 h 30 min
Birmingham to Riyadh
2,841 nautical miles, the departure point for the Midlands, about ninety nautical miles longer than Biggin Hill
about 6 h 40 min
Manchester to Riyadh
2,877 nautical miles, the main departure of the north-west
about 6 h 45 min
Edinburgh to Riyadh
2,967 nautical miles, the longest of the usual Scottish departures, where a Challenger 350 is close to its limit
about 6 h 55 min

Which aircraft can make it in one hop

Light jets are out of the question at 2,753 nautical miles. A Citation Latitude is quoted at about 2,700 nautical miles, below the distance to Riyadh from every British field, and a Challenger 350 at about 3,200 reaches the capital with a modest reserve and less from Scotland. The Praetor 600, quoted at about 3,900, is the cheapest cabin that does it comfortably, which is why the title price is built on it.

Towards the Red Sea the sectors shorten: Jeddah is 2,645 nautical miles from Biggin Hill, AlUla 2,371 and NEOM Bay 2,202. A Challenger 350 has room to spare there. A smaller aircraft can serve any Saudi city with a stop in southern Europe or the eastern Mediterranean, which adds about an hour, a second landing permit and a second set of fees, shown as separate lines in the quote.

The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Reading the table

– The departure airfield matters less than most clients expect. Edinburgh is about £3,200 dearer than Biggin Hill and Belfast about £4,100 dearer, because the long middle of the trip is the same for everyone;

– A one-way price assumes the aircraft returns empty. For a stay of several days the aircraft either waits on the apron or flies home and comes back, and we price both.

Riyadh is not the only way in. Jeddah on the Red Sea and Dammam on the Gulf are 676 nautical miles apart, and the western airports are closer to Britain. Biggin Hill to Jeddah is £1,650 cheaper than to Riyadh on the same aircraft, and NEOM Bay is £8,350 cheaper. The saving is real, but the private-aviation facilities in the west are thinner than in the capital, as the airport section below explains. One-way prices from Biggin Hill to each airport we are asked about:

Private jet flights within Saudi Arabia and to its neighbours

Riyadh to Jeddah is 478 nautical miles, a little longer than London to Zurich, and by road it is a long day, so a private jet is often the only practical way to see more than one region. The aviation authority has opened domestic charter flying to foreign on-demand operators, and approval is given on application, so we confirm each internal leg in writing. International arrivals and departures still use an airport of entry. Typical one-way prices inside the Kingdom:

What to know about the onward sectors

– We confirm in writing that the operator may fly a sector between two third countries before a quote is accepted;

– Saudi legs that touch Jeddah, Medina or Taif in the pilgrimage weeks are the hardest to arrange, so we ask for the permit status and the parking position first;

– Riyadh, AlUla and Jeddah booked as one trip cost noticeably less than three single legs, because the aircraft and crew stay with you.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Saudi Arabia:

Light and midsize jets

The right aircraft for legs inside the Kingdom and across the Gulf. From Britain they need a fuel stop; the Latitude, quoted at about 2,700 nautical miles, falls short of Riyadh.

Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h

Super-midsize

The smallest class that reaches Riyadh from London in one hop. The Praetor 600 sets the price of this page; the Challenger 350 has less reserve and suits the western airports better.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Heavy jets

For a delegation, a family with staff or a team with equipment: room to work and sleep on a six and a half hour sector.

Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Embraer Legacy 650 · 13 seatsfrom £4,600/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Ultra-long range

The most margin on a sector of this length, and the same aircraft can carry on to Asia or Africa.

Dassault Falcon 900LX · 12 seatsfrom £5,400/h
Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom £6,400/h
Gulfstream G550 · 16 seatsfrom £6,700/h
Gulfstream G650ER · 14 seatsfrom £7,700/h

The Gulf has its own long-range fleet, so outside the busiest weeks there is sometimes a jet already in the region. For the flight out from Britain the aircraft usually comes from a European base, and the positioning is part of the quote.

Business aviation airports in Saudi Arabia

Business jets use Riyadh and Jeddah as a matter of routine, and a growing list of newer airports in the west and north was built for the giga-projects. The aviation authority's roadmap includes six dedicated business aviation airports and nine terminals, so the picture is changing, but we plan with what a handler will confirm for the date:

Airport Ground How it operates
Riyadh King Khalid International
RUH / OERK
about 35 km north of the city centre The airport for the capital and for nearly every private flight to it. Jet Aviation operates an executive terminal, and Saudia Private Aviation is also listed
Jeddah King Abdulaziz International
JED / OEJN
about 22 to 24 km north of Jeddah, 478 nm from Riyadh The gateway for the Red Sea coast, open round the clock with customs. The pilgrimage weeks affect slots and parking
Medina Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International
MED / OEMA
397 nm from Riyadh Runways of 4,335 and 3,050 metres, customs on site, heavily loaded in the Hajj and Umrah seasons
Dammam King Fahd International
DMM / OEDF
198 nm from Riyadh, in the Eastern Province The Gulf-coast gateway, two parallel runways of about 4,000 metres, an airport of entry round the clock; the private service is lighter than in Riyadh or Jeddah
AlUla International
ULH / OEAO
492 nm from Riyadh, the airport nearest to Hegra One runway of 3,050 metres; Saudia Private Aviation runs the private aviation hangar
Red Sea International
RSI / OERS
545 nm from Riyadh, about 20 km from the coastal lagoons A runway of 3,700 metres for the islands and resorts of the Red Sea destination; Jetex was chosen to operate the private aviation terminal
NEOM Bay
NUM / OENN
664 nm from Riyadh, in Tabuk Province A runway of 3,757 metres owned by the NEOM company, with scheduled airline service; no published business jet handler found
Abha International
AHB / OEAB
481 nm from Riyadh, in the Asir highlands A runway of 3,350 metres at 2,090 metres above sea level; a scheduled-airline field that we treat case by case

King Khalid International has two runways, the longer of about 4,200 metres, and it is open round the clock as an airport of entry with customs. The sources we read list slots as required and handling as mandatory. Private flights use facilities separate from the main passenger building. Jet Aviation's executive terminal has a lounge, a crew room and a prayer area, with immigration and customs on call, so we give the handler the arrival time and the passenger details ahead of the flight. We name the terminal in the quote, because a driver told only the word Riyadh can wait at the wrong building.

Jeddah is the airport that sees the pilgrimage traffic, with three parallel runways, the longest listed at about 3,800 metres. Directories list Jet Aviation, Saudia Special Flight Services and Jetex among the flight-support companies. The sources disagree on the details that matter: one database says slots are required, a business aviation guide says neither slots nor prior permission apply, and the same guide says customs and immigration work Sunday to Thursday only, so a Friday or Saturday arrival may have no officer on duty. We take the stricter version of each and ask the handler to confirm.

Medina, Dammam, AlUla, the Red Sea and NEOM complete the list. The last three are young airports built for specific destinations, and no single source describes their business jet facilities, so we confirm each with the operator before the price is final.

Five points settle most arrivals before a quote goes out:

Permit: about three working days

The General Authority of Civil Aviation issues landing and overflight permits. One guide gives about three working days for a landing permit, Sunday to Thursday, and about five for an overflight permit; another puts the minimum for Jeddah at 72 hours. The permit is valid for 24 hours either side of the approved day.

A local sponsor

The authority often wants a local sponsor named, and the passenger list must match the passports exactly.

Handling is mandatory

A local company handles the aircraft, which is sealed after arrival, so anything needed from the cabin comes off before you leave it.

Domestic legs need approval

Foreign charter operators may apply to fly inside the Kingdom, but approval is not automatic, so a trip linking Riyadh, AlUla and Jeddah is asked for as one itinerary.

The working week

Friday and Saturday are the weekend in practice, and offices can be closed or on reduced hours around Ramadan, Hajj and National Day.

The Hajj weeks and Jeddah

The British government says visitors who are not performing Hajj have been stopped from flying to Jeddah, Madinah and Taif during Hajj, and a Hajj visa may be needed to board. Other airports stay open to non-pilgrims, so for dates in the pilgrimage weeks we plan the arrival through Riyadh and ask the operator about the onward leg.

Arriving from Britain: passports, visas and customs

A British passport holder needs permission to enter Saudi Arabia, and the British government lists three online routes. The points below are the ones that most often cost a passenger time:

Passports
the passport must have at least six months of validity after the arrival date, and entry is refused with a document reported lost or stolen; a passport that shows travel to Israel, or a birthplace there, may mean refusal
every passenger, children included
Electronic travel authorisation
for tourism, business, study, medical treatment and Umrah outside Hajj; valid for 730 days with multiple entries, but no more than 180 days of stay in total
the usual choice for business
E-visa
for tourists only; valid for 365 days, no more than 90 days in total, with health insurance up to 100,000 riyals included
tourism
Electronic visa waiver
one entry and a stay of up to 180 days; apply at least 48 hours before the flight and up to 90 days ahead
single trip
Hajj
the pilgrimage needs a separate Hajj visa in every case; the other permissions do not cover it
pilgrims only
Customs
alcohol, pork products, pornographic material, narcotics and weapons may not be brought in; some medicines need special approval; anything prohibited or dutiable must be declared
declare in the terminal

The right permission depends on the purpose of the trip, and every passenger should apply online before departure, not in the arrival hall. At a private terminal the formalities are cleared in the building, and the authorities often check the permit details with the local sponsor.

Alcohol, the cabin bar, medicines and dual nationals

Importing alcohol is illegal, and the bar of a visiting aircraft is sealed on arrival, so the cabin menu is settled with the handler before the flight. Passengers carry medicines in the original packaging with the prescription and ask us in advance if there is any doubt.

A British dual national should carry a valid British passport or a certificate of entitlement, since that is the document needed to return to Britain.

Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, and most other nationalities do.

Read the travel advice before you book

The British government advises against all travel within 10 kilometres of the Yemen border and against all but essential travel to the rest of Saudi Arabia, and says that travelling against the advice could invalidate your insurance. It records missile and drone attacks, says the threat is heightened against airports, military sites, ports and energy infrastructure across the country, names Abha, Jizan, Najran, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Yanbu, reports that King Khalid International was struck by a missile and calls further airport attacks, disruption and cancellations very likely. We do not ask anyone to travel against that advice. Where a client has an essential reason to go, we confirm a charter only when the operator holds the route, the permits and the insurance cover in writing. If the airspace or the airport is closed the flight does not operate, and the alternative the advice itself suggests is to cross by land to a neighbouring country and fly from there, which we price on request.

Which airport for which part of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has the size of a continent and the main destinations are far apart, so the question is not which airport is best but which airport is nearest to where the guests are sleeping:

Riyadh and central Arabia
the capital, the ministries, the head offices and the racecourse; the airport is about 35 kilometres north of the centre
Riyadh King Khalid
Jeddah and the Red Sea coast
Historic Jeddah, the Corniche and the business district of the west
Jeddah King Abdulaziz
Mecca and Medina
Mecca is closed to non-Muslims; Medina has its own airport, and areas of the city are restricted, so non-Muslim crew and passengers take the handler's advice
Jeddah or Medina
The Red Sea resorts
islands and lagoons about 20 kilometres from the airport, reached by boat or seaplane; 274 nautical miles from Jeddah by air
Red Sea International
AlUla and Hegra
the desert heritage region of the north-west, 306 nautical miles from Jeddah
AlUla International
The Eastern Province
Dammam, Dhahran and Al Khobar, the oil and industrial coast, 198 nautical miles from Riyadh
Dammam King Fahd
The Asir highlands
Abha stands at about 2,270 metres and is the cool escape of the summer; the security position near the southern border needs reading first
Abha, with caution

Riyadh, Jeddah and the desert: what our clients go for

Most of our Saudi passengers go for business, and the business is in the capital. Riyadh holds the ministries, the sovereign investment funds and the regional offices of large international firms, and the demand on the route is corporate: delegations, advisers, engineers on a project, and in the autumn the executives who arrive for the large investment conference.

Jeddah is the other half of the country. Historic Jeddah, the old quarter, is on the UNESCO list, and the waterfront runs for some thirty square kilometres along the Red Sea, with the Corniche circuit that hosts the Formula One race in spring. Many visitors pass through on the way to Mecca, which is about 65 kilometres to the east and closed to non-Muslims.

AlUla is the destination people ask about when they want something that is not a meeting. Hegra, the first site in the Kingdom to be placed on the World Heritage list, has rock-cut tombs in the sandstone, and the Winter at Tantora festival season brings concerts and events between December and February. The Red Sea destination is newer: the airport opened with domestic flights and added an international route to Dubai later, and Shebara, a resort on an island about 25 kilometres from the mainland, is reached by a thirty to forty minute boat ride or a thirty minute seaplane flight.

The Saudi year: mild winters, scorching summers and a cool escape in the south

Saudi Arabia is mostly desert, with a mountainous south-west and a narrow plain along the Red Sea, so the weather depends on where you land. The visitor year in the capital and the heritage regions runs from autumn to spring:

Riyadh, November to March
mean daily highs of around 20 degrees in January, with the entertainment calendar at its fullest; some of the year's rain falls in March and April
peak season
Riyadh, May to September
mean daily highs above 43 degrees in July and August, with a record of nearly 50; early and late flights are kinder to crews and passengers
very hot
Jeddah, all year
mean daily highs of 28.8 degrees in January and 39.4 in July, with humidity of 53 to 67 per cent; September is the most humid month, and the sparse rain comes mostly in November and December
warm and humid
Abha, summer
at about 2,270 metres the mean daily highs stay near 31 degrees in June to August and seldom pass 35; the rain falls mostly from February to April, with a smaller wet spell in July and August
cool highlands

Heat and the payload of the aircraft

A 45 degree afternoon takes weight out of a take-off, and the operator checks the fuel and the cabin load for a summer departure from Riyadh or Dammam before the quote is final.

The Saudi calendar: the winter season, Ramadan and the pilgrimage

The calendar is shaped by the cool months, by the sporting and cultural programme, and by Islamic dates that shift by about eleven days each year:

October
The Future Investment Initiative, the large investment conference, is usually held in Riyadh in October, and the Riyadh Season entertainment programme opens in the same month. Hotels, cars and the executive apron all tighten at once
November to March
Riyadh Season runs through the winter with boxing cards, football super cups, concerts and tennis.
December to February
Winter at Tantora and the other AlUla festivals fill the desert region, and the Dakar Rally has been held in the Kingdom in January.
February
The Saudi Cup, among the richest horse races in the world, is the high point of the racing season in Riyadh.
March and April
Riyadh Season usually ends in March, and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is held in Jeddah in spring. Parking is tight, and one guide lists a maximum stay of three days on the apron in race week
Ramadan and Eid
Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year. Offices can be closed or on reduced hours, catering needs longer notice, and non-Muslim visitors should not eat or drink in public during the day
Hajj season
The pilgrimage moves through the calendar like Ramadan, and a Jeddah booking in those weeks needs an early check (see the airport section)
23 September
National Day. Government offices are closed, and permits are requested before it, not during it

What a peak does to a flight plan

The flying costs the same in a quiet week and in Saudi Cup week. What gets tight is the permit lead time, the parking positions and the supply of cars and rooms. A booking made two weeks before an event can still be done, but it pays more; made two months earlier it is simpler and cheaper.

Flying to Saudi Arabia with a dog or a cat

Saudi Arabia is a strict destination for a pet owner, and dogs are the harder case. On our flights the animal travels in the cabin beside you, and the rest is paperwork that has to be done in the right order and well ahead.

The two things to settle first

Whether a pet dog may enter at all. The British guidance says dogs are not admitted other than guard, hunting and guide dogs, and it lists breeds that are not permitted, so a pet dog needs the written agreement of the Saudi authorities before anything else is arranged. Cats have no breed restrictions in that guidance.

How the animal is received. The permit names the ports of entry, and the sources we read do not address a private aircraft or a private terminal. We therefore ask in writing how the animal will be cleared and do not promise a cabin arrival until we have the answer.

What Saudi Arabia typically asks for when a dog or a cat arrives from Britain:

  • An import permit applied for through the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture on its electronic platform, valid for 30 days from issue, with arrival through the ports named in the permit;
  • A microchip or other approved identification, and a rabies vaccination given between 30 days and six months before export, with the vaccine still having at least six months of validity left on arrival;
  • A health certificate completed by an Official Veterinarian on the British export health certificate for Saudi Arabia, with a copy of the rabies certificate attached, and the original certified by the veterinary authorities;
  • Legalisation of the certificate, which the British guidance describes as a step at the Foreign Office and then at the Saudi embassy in London.

A 30-day permit and a vaccination window of 30 days to six months leave little room to move the flight, so we fix the date before the vet is booked.

On the way home the rule is British. A dog must be treated against tapeworm by a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain, which means a vet visit in Saudi Arabia in the days before the flight, and a cat needs no treatment. Whether Saudi Arabia counts as a listed country decides if a blood test is needed on the return, and we check the GOV.UK page for the date of travel. An animal without the right paperwork can be held in quarantine for up to four months.

Rules for other species are collected on our flying with pets page.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a positioning flight with an empty cabin, sold at a fraction of the normal price. Saudi Arabia produces them because traffic comes in waves: a delegation or a sports party flies out for an event, and the aircraft goes home without anybody aboard.

Where Saudi empty legs come from

– Event weeks. After the investment conference, the Saudi Cup or a major fight night, aircraft often leave empty a day or two later, which produces legs towards Britain and Europe;

– Fleet movements. Business jets based in the Gulf are moved according to demand;

– Gulf and Red Sea rotation. Aircraft that fly a party to Riyadh from Dubai, Doha, Bahrain or Jeddah often return empty, and those short legs can be cheap.

A client who can name a few days has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening, and a leg can vanish when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Saudi empty legs follows:

Route Aircraft Capacity Whole aircraft
Jeddah - Riyadh Citation XLS+ 9 seats £3,800
Dubai - Riyadh Citation XLS+ 9 seats £3,900
UK (London Luton) - Jeddah Praetor 600 9 seats £18,000
Riyadh - UK (London Biggin Hill) Praetor 600 9 seats £18,500
Jeddah - UK (Manchester) Praetor 600 9 seats £18,650
Riyadh - UK (Farnborough) Praetor 600 9 seats £18,650
UK (Birmingham) - Riyadh Praetor 600 9 seats £19,050
UK (Edinburgh) - Riyadh Praetor 600 9 seats £19,800

How to read those figures

– Each price is for the whole aircraft, not for a seat. A Praetor 600 from London Luton to Jeddah at £18,000 with eight aboard comes to about £2,250 a head;

– A leg that starts in the Gulf depends on the operator's own plans, so an open return date helps, and the permit for the Saudi end is still requested in the usual way.

Helicopter charter

A helicopter in Saudi Arabia is a specialist tool and not a routine airport transfer. The case for it rests on a view, on a site with no easy road access, or on a timetable that cannot allow for traffic. The Kingdom has a national commercial helicopter operator, The Helicopter Company, owned by the Public Investment Fund, which lists private charters and tourism flights among its services.

King Khalid to a site in central Riyadh
the airport is about 35 km north of the city, and the straight-line time is shorter than the drive in heavy traffic
about 20 min
AlUla International to the Hegra area
a sightseeing and transfer flight over the sandstone, with the landing site agreed beforehand
on request
Red Sea International to the island resorts
guests normally go by boat in 30 to 40 minutes or by seaplane in about 30; a helicopter is possible only by arrangement
on request

The time assumes a cruise of about 115 knots, and the operator confirms the route for your date. We do not publish a fixed fleet list, because the aircraft available change with the operator and the task.

Before you plan around a helicopter

Each pick-up and set-down point needs the approval of the operator and the authorities, airspace restrictions can change a route at short notice, and the summer heat limits aircraft performance. A helicopter transfer is therefore planned as a possibility, and a car is kept in reserve.

Saudi charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

Six typical jobs assembled from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.

RIYADH · THREE NIGHTS

Two directors and a series of ministry meetings

Biggin Hill - Riyadh and return, Praetor 600, about 6 h 30 min each way · 2 pax

The visas were issued online before departure, and the landing permit was applied for on the day of booking with a local sponsor named. The aircraft stayed at the executive apron under a parking arrangement made with the handler.

ALULA · WINTER FESTIVAL

A party of six for a long weekend

London Stansted - AlUla, Praetor 600, about 5 h 40 min · 6 pax

The permit and the arrival arrangements were confirmed with the operator and the handler in writing before the price was fixed, and rooms were requested with the aircraft.

SAUDI CUP WEEK · A RACING PARTY

Eight guests and more luggage than usual

Manchester - Riyadh, Praetor 600, about 6 h 45 min · 8 pax

The booking was made two months ahead, which kept the parking position and the cars.

JEDDAH · GRAND PRIX WEEKEND

Six guests flying into Jeddah for the race

Biggin Hill - Jeddah, Praetor 600, about 6 h 15 min · 6 pax

Parking is limited in race week and customs may keep Sunday to Thursday hours, so the arrival was timed for a weekday and the stay on the apron kept short.

WITH THE CAT · A LONG ASSIGNMENT

A couple, a cat and a posting of several months

London City - Riyadh, Praetor 600, about 6 h 30 min · 2 pax + cat

The import permit came before the vet visits, and the certificate was legalised at the Foreign Office and the Saudi embassy in good time. We asked the handler in writing how the cat would be received.

EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN

A Jeddah departure with a window of three days

Jeddah - London Luton, Praetor 600 empty leg, about 6 h 20 min · 4 pax

The client gave us a window, not a date, and paid about £18,000, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a departure on the second day of the window.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Saudi Arabia

1How long does it take to fly to Saudi Arabia by private jet?

About 6 hours 30 minutes nonstop from London Biggin Hill to Riyadh on a Praetor 600, and 6 hours 55 minutes from Edinburgh. Jeddah is closer, about 6 hours 15 minutes from Biggin Hill. A smaller aircraft needs a technical stop that adds about an hour.

2How much does a private jet to Saudi Arabia cost?

From about £44,000 one way from Biggin Hill to Riyadh on a Praetor 600, the cheapest aircraft we price for the nonstop run. Jeddah costs about £1,650 less on the same aircraft, and Edinburgh to Riyadh costs about £3,200 more.

3Which airport do private jets use in Saudi Arabia?

Most private flights to the capital use King Khalid International, about 35 kilometres north of Riyadh, where Jet Aviation operates an executive terminal. King Abdulaziz International serves Jeddah and the Red Sea coast, and King Fahd International serves the Eastern Province. AlUla, Red Sea International and NEOM Bay are newer airports for specific destinations.

4What are the passport, visa and permit rules for a private flight from Britain to Saudi Arabia?

British citizens need permission before travelling: an electronic travel authorisation for business or tourism, an e-visa for tourists or an electronic visa waiver, and we advise applying online before departure. The passport must be valid for at least six months from the day of arrival. The flight needs a landing permit from the General Authority of Civil Aviation, requested through the handler at booking.

5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Saudi Arabia?

A cat can travel with an import permit, a microchip, a rabies vaccination given between 30 days and six months before export and a certified, legalised health certificate. A pet dog is a harder case, because the British guidance says dogs are not admitted other than guard, hunting and guide dogs, so the written agreement of the Saudi authorities comes first. Dogs need a tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing back in Britain.

6What does the British government advise about travel to Saudi Arabia?

It advises against all travel within 10 kilometres of the Yemen border and against all but essential travel to the rest of the country, and it warns of missile and drone attacks, including on airports. Travelling against the advice could invalidate insurance. We do not ask anyone to travel against it, and a charter is confirmed only when the operator holds the route, the permits and the insurance cover in writing.

7Can a private jet fly inside Saudi Arabia, for example from Riyadh to AlUla?

Yes, in principle. The aviation authority has opened domestic charter flying to foreign on-demand operators, but approval is given on application and is not automatic, so we confirm each internal leg in writing. Riyadh to AlUla is 492 nautical miles, about 1 h 40 min on a Citation XLS+, from £9,250 one way.
