Private jet charter in Phoenix
Phoenix is a desert city that fills its resorts from the New Year to the spring and slows to a crawl in the July heat, and the flight from London, about 4,740 to 4,770 nautical miles by the routes we plan, is longer than a super-midsize jet is published to fly in one hop. Private Jets UK charters the aircraft that the crossing demands and the airfield that suits the passengers. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Six airfields serve the valley, but only three of them can clear a flight from abroad, and the one beside the resorts keeps hours that make the time of landing matter as much as the aircraft.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Phoenix depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. On a sector of nearly five thousand nautical miles the choice between a large-cabin jet that flies nonstop and a super-midsize with a stop in Newfoundland moves the price more than any other item. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Farnborough, a super-midsize jet such as an Embraer Praetor 600 with a stop at Gander and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Phoenix?
A Global 6000 flies London to Phoenix nonstop in about 10 h 35 min from Farnborough, and about 35 minutes less from Glasgow or Aberdeen. The routed distance to Sky Harbor runs from 4,474 to 4,773 nautical miles depending on the British field. Embraer publishes a range of 3,900 nautical miles for the Praetor 600, quoted with four passengers, which falls short of the crossing by 574 to 873 nautical miles before any headwind. The Challenger 605 class is published at about 4,000, which misses every route by 474 to 773 nautical miles. Both therefore plan a stop at Gander in Newfoundland. A Challenger 350 is published at 3,200 and a Citation Latitude at about 2,500, which leaves the first with little to spare on the second leg and the second without enough range for it at all. The Global 6000 is published at 6,000 and has 1,227 to 1,526 nautical miles in hand. Arizona does not move its clocks, so Phoenix is seven hours behind Britain in the winter months and eight hours behind in British summer time, and an early departure from Britain lands in the middle of the morning. The times below assume the headwind the North Atlantic normally supplies on the way west. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Leave Farnborough at half past seven in the morning, British summer time, and a Global 6000 reaches Sky Harbor at about 10:05 Phoenix time, well inside the window from 08:15 to 19:45 that the border service lists for every day of the week. That window suits a departure from Britain between about 05:40 and 17:10 on the same assumption, and Scottsdale Airport, whose customs service runs from 09:00 to 19:00, is a little narrower. The centre of Phoenix is 6 km from Sky Harbor in a straight line, Old Town Scottsdale 10 km, and Mesa Gateway lies 42 km from the centre, so the field you pick changes the drive more than the choice of car. Coming home the sums run the other way. The eastbound crossing takes about 9 h 00 min in a Global 6000 with the wind behind, but it is normally flown overnight, so the party lands in Britain the next morning after a night in a seat.
Nonstop or one stop: the question that decides the aircraft
– A large-cabin long-range jet such as the Global 6000, a Gulfstream G550 or a G650ER flies London to Phoenix nonstop with room to spare. This is the answer for ten or more passengers, for long luggage lists and for anyone who values the time, and one landing is easier to fit into a customs window than two. It costs more, and from Luton the Global 6000 starts at £128,300;
– A super-midsize such as the Praetor 600, or a Challenger 605, is the value answer, flown with one stop at Gander. The stop adds about 130 to 279 nautical miles to the route depending on the starting field, because Gander lies north of the direct line to Phoenix, and it costs an hour on the ground and a second landing. A Praetor via Gander from Farnborough starts at £78,900, against £128,550 for the Global 6000 nonstop. Gander is the stop we price. Goose Bay, in Labrador, is closer to the track and would trim the total by about 113 nautical miles from Farnborough, and the operator may choose it on the day. A stop at Shannon would leave a second leg of about 4,440 nautical miles, which does not cure the range problem. Keflavik would shorten the total to about 4,820, but its second leg of about 3,750 nautical miles is within 150 nautical miles of the Praetor's published range, too thin for a westbound leg with a full cabin;
– A Challenger 350 is published at 3,200 nautical miles, so the second leg of 2,793 from Gander leaves it only about 407 nautical miles in hand before any headwind. A Citation Latitude, published at about 2,500, cannot fly that leg with a single stop at all. We therefore quote the Praetor or the Challenger 605 for most requests and move the smaller types up a size, unless the operator confirms the fuel plan in writing. Light jets and turboprops do not cross as a rule, and the smaller aircraft is booked locally for the Arizona legs.

Private jet flights from Phoenix
Phoenix is a gateway to the Southwest as well as a destination. Las Vegas, Tucson and Sedona are each under an hour away in a light aircraft, Los Angeles a little more, and the way home is the same crossing as the way out, with the wind on the tail. Typical one-way prices:

Why the short legs are the cheap part
A trip to Phoenix is priced as one long crossing and a few short hops, and the hops cost a fraction of the crossing. A flight from Sky Harbor to Sedona in a Pilatus PC-12 starts at £3,100, against £78,900 for the Atlantic leg in a Praetor 600 from Farnborough, so a day among the red rocks barely changes the total. The sensible way to plan it is to book the larger aircraft for the ocean and ask us to quote the turboprop or the light jet separately, since an aircraft based in the Southwest will almost always beat a transatlantic jet left on the apron for the week.
Before you accept an onward quote
– Which tower is open. Scottsdale's tower runs 06:00 to 21:00 and publishes a voluntary noise curfew from 22:00 to 06:00, Chandler's tower 06:00 to 21:00, Goodyear's the same, and Deer Valley's 06:00 to midnight. Sedona has no tower at all and an attended airport day that is shorter in summer than in winter. A late sector is a different exercise at each of them;
– Where customs is. A leg from Sky Harbor to Sedona, Las Vegas or Los Angeles is a domestic flight with no border check. A party that lands first from abroad, however, cannot start at Deer Valley, Chandler, Goodyear or Sedona, because none of those fields lists a customs service in the sources we use, so the border is cleared at Sky Harbor, Scottsdale, Mesa Gateway or Tucson before anything else;
– Who is allowed to fly it. The United States treats a charter between two American points as a domestic job. A non-US aircraft may carry passengers between two US points only if they arrived on it from abroad or are leaving on it for abroad, so the jet that brought you from London can take you on to Las Vegas, while a hop for another party is normally flown by a US-registered aircraft. Each US leg flown by a foreign aircraft also needs its own permit to proceed from customs.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for the Phoenix run:
Long-range jets, nonstop
The way across without a stop. These types have the range for the crossing with plenty in hand, and they suit ten or more passengers, long luggage lists and a landing time that has to fit a customs window.
Super-midsize and large-cabin jets, via Gander
The value route for four to nine people who accept an hour on the ground in Newfoundland. The published range of these types is shorter than the crossing, so the stop is part of the plan and not a precaution.
Midsize jets, only with a confirmed fuel plan
A smaller cabin for four to eight people. The second leg from Gander is long for a Challenger 350 and beyond a Latitude, so we quote these types only when the operator confirms the plan, and we say so if a larger aircraft is the safer answer.
Light jets and turboprops, for the Southwest
Not for the Atlantic, but the right aircraft once you are there: Sedona, Tucson and Las Vegas are each under an hour away, Los Angeles a little more, and the Grand Canyon is a short hop.
Helicopters
For the last stretch and for sightseeing, not for the crossing: a transfer between a resort and an airfield, or a flight to Sedona or the Grand Canyon. A landing site outside an aerodrome is agreed before the quote, so the request goes in early.

This is a small part of what is available. Aircraft that can cross the Atlantic with a Phoenix load are fewer than the ones that serve Europe, and their positions change daily, so a long-range jet already waiting in London is often cheaper than one that must first be brought over from North America. The Southwest works the other way round: a jet that is going back across the ocean anyway can sometimes be had on better terms for the eastbound leg.

Business aviation airports in Phoenix
Six airfields matter to a private party in the Phoenix valley, and two more matter beyond it. They are not interchangeable. Sky Harbor sits beside downtown and handles the border, Scottsdale is the resort field with its own customs service and a weight limit, Mesa Gateway is the big runway on the far south-east side, and the rest are shorter city fields with no customs listed, so it helps to know which is which before a quote arrives with one of them in it.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Phoenix Sky Harbor International PHX / KPHX |
The default for a party arriving from abroad, and the airport the prices on this page are built on. It lies about 6 km from the centre of Phoenix in a straight line, at an elevation of 1,135 ft, with three runways: 11,489 ft (3,502 m), 10,300 ft and 7,800 ft, all with ILS approaches. Cutter Aviation and Jackson Jet Center are the two private terminals, both listed as open around the clock, and the airport guides we read describe customs and immigration as on site. Noise abatement procedures are in force. The border service lists arrival inspections every day from 08:15 to 19:45, and the aircraft parks on its South Cargo ramp, where an officer meets it |
| Scottsdale Airport SCF / KSDL |
The resort field, about 14 km north of Old Town Scottsdale, at an elevation of 1,510 ft, with one runway of 8,249 ft (2,514 m) and no ILS, only satellite approaches. The tower runs 06:00 to 21:00. Jet Aviation, Atlantic Aviation and Signature are the three handlers. It is a customs user fee airport with the border service on site every day from 09:00 to 19:00, and the airport lists after-hours appointments at any time of day or night, case by case and for an extra fee. A voluntary curfew asks pilots to stay away from 22:00 to 06:00, and the runway is limited to 75,000 lb maximum takeoff weight, with prior permission between 75,000 and 100,000 lb |
| Phoenix-Mesa Gateway AZA / KIWA |
A former air base about 42 km south-east of the centre of Phoenix and the valley's reliever for Sky Harbor, with three runways of 10,401 ft (3,170 m), 10,201 ft and 9,300 ft at an elevation of 1,384 ft. The tower runs 05:00 to midnight. Gateway Aviation Services is the handler, open around the clock and set up for international handling. It is a customs user fee airport, with an inspection facility staffed in weekday business hours and available at any hour by appointment. The attraction is space and long runways, and the cost is a long drive to the resorts |
| Deer Valley DVT / KDVT |
About 27 km north-north-west of the centre of Phoenix, with a runway of 8,196 ft (2,498 m) and a 4,500 ft training strip, at an elevation of 1,478 ft. The tower runs 06:00 to midnight, and Cutter Aviation is the full-service handler. A training field with busy circuits and hills around it, suited to midsize jets and turboprops on domestic legs. No customs service is listed, so the border has to be cleared elsewhere first |
| Chandler Municipal CHD / KCHD |
About 32 km south-east of the centre of Phoenix, on the Chandler side of the valley, with runways of 4,870 ft (1,484 m) and 4,401 ft, at an elevation of 1,243 ft. The tower runs 06:00 to 21:00, and the airport's own terminal and Chandler Air Service handle visitors. The runways are short for a jet in desert heat, and the field is a turboprop and light jet airport. No customs service is listed |
| Phoenix Goodyear GYR / KGYR |
About 28 km west of the centre of Phoenix, with a runway of 8,500 ft (2,591 m) at an elevation of 969 ft. The tower runs 06:00 to 21:00, and Lux Air Jet Centers is the handler, with line service around the clock. A noise abatement procedure keeps the circuit close to the field. The West Valley option, near the Goodyear spring-training ballpark, with no customs service listed |
| Sedona Airport SEZ / KSEZ |
About 158 km north of Phoenix in a straight line, at an elevation of 4,830 ft on a mesa about 500 ft above the town, with a runway of 5,132 ft (1,564 m) and no control tower. Red Rock Aviation is the handler. The airport warns of wind shear and turbulence near the mesa edge, and its noise procedure bars scenic flights below 6,500 ft. No customs service is listed. It suits a turboprop, a light jet that has already cleared the border or a helicopter, and not a jet at full weight on a hot afternoon |
| Tucson International TUS / KTUS |
About 178 km south-east of Phoenix in a straight line and an international airport of entry, at an elevation of 2,643 ft, with runways of 10,996 ft (3,352 m) and 7,000 ft and an ILS on the long one. Atlantic Aviation, Million Air Tucson, Executive Air Tucson and Tucson Jet Center are the handlers. A choice for a party going to Tucson itself or to the south of the state, and a fallback when the Phoenix windows do not fit |
Four details decide most Phoenix arrivals:
Choose the field and the handler
Sky Harbor has two private terminals, Cutter Aviation and Jackson Jet Center, Scottsdale has three handlers, and the other fields have one or two. They differ in lounge, fees and car access, so we put your preference, or the operator's, in writing. A driver told only Phoenix may wait at the wrong door, and the valley is a long way across: Mesa Gateway is 33 km from Old Town Scottsdale in a straight line, against 14 km for Scottsdale Airport, so the field and the handler's name go on the transfer order.
Hours, slots and noise
None of the sources we work from lists a slot scheme for business jets at Sky Harbor; the controls are the customs timetable, the apron and noise. Scottsdale is the field with rules: a voluntary curfew from 22:00 to 06:00, a tower that closes at 21:00, and a runway limited to 75,000 lb takeoff weight, with permission needed between 75,000 and 100,000 lb. The published text says nothing for anything heavier, so we check the weight of the actual aircraft before we promise Scottsdale. We check the hours before we quote.
Border and passport
British citizens travel on an ESTA and a valid passport, and the crew and passenger details are filed with the US border service before departure from Britain. Sky Harbor lists arrivals every day from 08:15 to 19:45 and Scottsdale from 09:00 to 19:00. Mesa Gateway works in weekday business hours and by appointment, and Tucson is a port of entry. Details are in the border section below.
Car and late nights
A car from the terminal is the normal plan, and we book it with the handler so the driver is waiting at the right door. In the summer heat, ask for the car at the aircraft door. If the flight lands outside the customs windows, tell us early: Scottsdale takes after-hours appointments case by case for an extra fee, and the request has to be made in advance, so a late arrival can decide the day of travel.

Border, passport and US customs
Landing in Phoenix from Britain means a full US border check for everyone on board, with no shortcut for a private flight. British passport holders travel under the Visa Waiver Programme: an approved ESTA allows a stay of up to 90 days for business or tourism, and the passport must stay valid for the whole trip. The ESTA is a permission to board, not a promise of entry, because the officer at the airport makes the final decision. Trouble tends to come from an arrest on record, even one without a conviction, from an earlier overstay, or from work done for an American employer, and a traveller with any of these on file is better off applying for a visa in good time. Make the ESTA application early and only through the official government site. On a private aircraft the ESTA normally works only if the operator holds Visa Waiver Program carrier status, which we check before we quote.

The aircraft has its own list of steps, which the operator and the handler carry out. The pilot in command files the passenger and crew manifest with the US border service through its electronic system no later than 60 minutes before leaving Britain, and the approval has to be in hand before the wheels turn. That approval does not allow the aircraft to land; landing rights come separately from CBP. At Sky Harbor and Scottsdale the fact sheets we work from ask the pilot to get permission to land from CBP before leaving the foreign airport and at least one hour before the expected arrival, with a tolerance of 30 minutes either way, and a changed arrival time outside that window means asking again. The airport's own listing for Sky Harbor asks for 48 hours' notice of an international landing, and we work to the longer period. At Sky Harbor the aircraft parks on the South Cargo ramp and an officer meets it, and the party is processed on the ramp or in the cargo office. At Scottsdale the aircraft goes to the CBP ramp and the party is processed on the ramp or in the CBP office. Passports, the pilot's licence and medical certificate, the aircraft registration and the user fee decal are shown. We confirm the procedure with the operator for each trip, because the text in force matters and a memory of last season does not.
The hours are the part that surprises people. The fact sheet for Sky Harbor lists arrival inspections every day from 08:15 to 19:45 Mountain time. Scottsdale lists 09:00 to 19:00 every day, and its own page says that after-hours appointments may be possible at any time, decided by officer availability, for an extra fee. The same page asks for the user fee to be paid online before arrival, for notice of an international arrival by 19:00 local time on the previous business day, and for a landing rights request to reach CBP by 14:00 on the previous business day. Some of that guidance is dated, so we ask CBP for the live position before the quote. Mesa Gateway's airport describes its inspection facility as staffed in weekday business hours and available around the clock by appointment. Deer Valley, Chandler, Goodyear and Sedona list no customs service, so an arrival from abroad clears at one of the four ports of entry first. A request is not permission to land, which is a separate call.
The flight home has its own paperwork. British and Irish citizens walk in without any permission, and most other visitors who need no visa must hold a UK electronic travel authorisation. The aircraft is declared on a General Aviation Report, which goes to the UK authorities between 48 hours and two hours before it leaves Phoenix. Mistakes cost money: £2,500 for a first landing at an aerodrome outside the regulated list, and £2,000 for each passenger carried without permission. The operator and the handler file the report, and we check that it has been accepted.
From the apron to the resort
The valley is a sprawl of cities more than forty kilometres across, and the airport you choose decides which part of it you start in. The resorts sit on the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley side: the Phoenician on the lower slopes of Camelback Mountain, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, the Boulders in north Scottsdale and the Four Seasons at Troon North among them. The figures below are straight-line distances from the centre of Phoenix, which understate the drive but show the order of things.

Flying to Phoenix with a dog or a cat
The United States asks for little paperwork on the way in and more on the way home. The animal sits with you in the cabin, and the crossing is long enough that most dogs sleep through it, though a flight with a stop at Gander adds an hour on the ground. What matters is the timing of three documents: the CDC import receipt for a dog, the health certificate and rabies cover that Arizona wants to see, and the certificate for the return to Britain, which has a short life.

What the two countries ask for:
- For a dog, a CDC Dog Import Form receipt, which is free and covers one dog. The United Kingdom is not on the CDC list of countries at high risk for dog rabies, so the lighter rules apply: the dog must look healthy on arrival, be at least six months old and carry a microchip that a universal scanner can read. A dog from such a country may enter through any port of entry, so Sky Harbor works;
- Arizona's administrative code asks a dog or a cat to travel with a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection that shows a current rabies vaccination if the animal is older than three months, given in line with the national compendium of rabies control. The rule text we read does not say which certificate the state accepts for an animal arriving from abroad, so we confirm that with the state veterinarian and the crew before the booking;
- For the return to Britain, the United States is a "part 2" listed country: a Great Britain pet health certificate completed by an official vet and dated in the ten days before arrival, with a pet passport or animal health certificate not accepted. The rabies vaccination must be at least 21 days old, and the microchip must have been fitted before or at the same time as the vaccine. The official text lists no blood test for these countries;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain. Cats are exempt. No more than five animals per traveller.
What catches owners out on the Phoenix run
– The certificate for the way home has to be dated inside ten days of arrival, so a two-week stay means a vet appointment in Arizona, and the tapeworm treatment has its own window of 24 to 120 hours before landing. Book both before you leave Britain;
– A dog under six months old cannot enter under the CDC rule, so a puppy is a reason to move the trip and not the paperwork;
– Heat. A July afternoon in Phoenix averages a high of about 41 degrees, and a ramp, a hot pavement or a parked car is no place for a dog. Ask the handler for the car at the aircraft door, and check that the resort and any helicopter operator each accept the animal, because each decides separately.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken. We also confirm in writing the entry point and the paperwork for the animal on the way back into Britain.
The Phoenix calendar: golf, cars, baseball and the heat
Phoenix is a winter and spring city. The sport, the auctions and the resort stays fall between November and April, the dates are fixed far ahead, and Scottsdale Airport feels every one of them. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why an event week costs more
The hourly rate does not change in a Phoenix Open week or a spring-training weekend; the supply does. Only a short list of aircraft can cross to Phoenix with a load, and the same aircraft are wanted by clients flying from New York and the continent. Apron space at Scottsdale is the first thing to go, and the customs windows leave no slack for a late departure. Crew duty hours tighten next. A booking made a fortnight before a golf week can still be done, but it costs more and may mean an aircraft ferried over empty. Five or six weeks of notice makes it simpler and cheaper, and outside the peaks a crossing can often be arranged within days.
Ways to bring the Phoenix price down
- Pick the aircraft for the ocean, not for the cabin photographs. A super-midsize with a stop at Gander costs noticeably less than a long-range jet flying nonstop; for four to eight people who do not mind the hour on the ground it is the fair trade;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A long-range jet positioning from London needs less ferrying than one coming from Florida or the west coast, and on a transatlantic sector positioning is a large share of the bill;
- Be flexible by a day or two. A flight that avoids the Phoenix Open and spring-training weeks is easier to price and easier to fit into the customs windows, and a return that fits an empty leg is cheaper than a fresh charter.
Types of flights
Phoenix produces its own mix of trips, because it is a golf and resort destination, a sports city and a gateway to the red rocks and the canyon country at the same time.
- Resort and golf stays at Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, from the Phoenician and the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess to the Boulders and the Four Seasons at Troon North, usually a small party with a firm return and a car at the aircraft door;
- Event weeks, from the Phoenix Open and the January car auction to spring training and a stadium weekend in Glendale, where the dates belong to the organiser and the customs window belongs to the border service;
- Short stays of two or three days, usually a small party that wants the aircraft to wait;
- Sightseeing by helicopter or light aircraft to Sedona and the Grand Canyon, booked with the jet;
- Onward journeys to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Aspen and further, using Phoenix as the port of entry to the United States and a lighter aircraft from there.
Look twice at one-way against return. At this distance a return inside a week is two full sectors plus the crew's rest and hotel in Arizona, so we price both ways. On a stay of two or three days the aircraft usually waits in Phoenix and flies you home, which beats ferrying it back empty and fetching it again, although in a busy week the operator may have to find it a parking place; after a week or more, two separate one-way charters are simpler than a jet standing idle.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a flight the aircraft has to make anyway, with nobody paying for the seats, and it can be sold at a fraction of the normal price. On the Phoenix corridor the supply follows the calendar more than the traffic, so it helps to know where it comes from.
Where Phoenix empty legs come from
– Event weeks. Aircraft arrive full for the Phoenix Open or a stadium weekend and leave empty a day or two later, so the eastbound and onward sectors appear in the days after;
– Transatlantic positioning. A long-range jet that has taken a party from London to Phoenix often has to return, and that empty crossing is the one most worth looking for;
– West coast rotation. Aircraft based in California, Arizona and Nevada move between Phoenix, Scottsdale, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and the short legs between them can be cheap.
Few aircraft can make the crossing, so a client who can give three days has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. The discount costs you control: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Phoenix match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In Phoenix a helicopter is a tool for sightseeing and for the last stretch, and not for the long haul. Sedona is more than a two-hour drive from the city and a few minutes by air, and one Scottsdale Airpark operator flies five passengers in an Airbus AS350 B2 from there, with an option to land at Sedona Airport on its mesa. The Grand Canyon National Park Airport lies about 280 km north of Sky Harbor in a straight line, at an elevation of 6,609 ft, with a runway of 8,999 ft. Landing sites in a built-up area are limited, so most private helicopter work starts at an airport or a prepared helipad.
a straight-line distance of about 13 nautical miles, from the airport that clears the border to the resort side of the valleyon request
about 77 nautical miles to the north, to a mesa-top airport at 4,830 fton request
about 157 nautical miles to the north; the National Park Airport sits 6 miles south of the village of Grand Canyonon request
about 146 nautical miles to the same canyon airport from the resort side of the valleyon request
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A resort lawn, a venue car park or a private ranch needs its landing status and the owner's consent confirmed before the quote, not after. At Sedona Airport hover operations are restricted to the area south and west of the runway;
– Heat sets the schedule. A hot afternoon cuts the payload a helicopter can lift, and at Sedona's 4,830 ft the density altitude on a 35 C afternoon works out at about 8,400 ft, so a transfer needs a morning slot or a road alternative planned into the same day, and monsoon storms can ground it for a few hours in the summer months;
– On a Phoenix Open or game day, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity, and agree the landing site for the way back as well as the way there.
For short transfers the usual choice is the Airbus H125, for resort and ranch work the roomier H130, and where a twin is wanted the H135 or the Bell 429. We book the helicopter alongside the jet, so that both crews follow one timetable.

Phoenix charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
NONSTOP · THE LONG-RANGE JET
Ten people and the whole Atlantic in one go
Farnborough - Phoenix Sky Harbor, Bombardier Global 6000, about 10 h 35 min · 10 pax
A corporate party leaving early in the morning and landing in the middle of the morning, with a board meeting in the afternoon and a resort dinner after it. The reason for the Global was less the seats than the wish to cross with one landing that fell well inside the customs window. The border check was arranged beforehand, and the party was in the cars soon after the aircraft door opened.
GANDER STOP · THE VALUE ROUTE
Five people, a Praetor and an hour in Newfoundland
London Luton - Phoenix Sky Harbor, Embraer Praetor 600, about 12 h 00 min plus a stop · 5 pax
A smaller party that preferred a super-midsize cabin and a lower price. The aircraft cannot reach Phoenix in one hop, so the quote included a stop at Gander, a turn of about an hour with fuel and a stretch of the legs. The departure from Gander was planned backwards from the customs window at the other end. A Global was quicker but cost more, and nobody argued about the extra hours.
OPEN WEEK · FIXED DATES
Four guests for the golf in February
London Stansted - Phoenix Sky Harbor, Bombardier Challenger 605, about 12 h 00 min plus a stop · 4 pax
The dates were set by the tournament and not by the client. Four people, a request for a car at the door and a firm return. The booking went in six weeks ahead, the handler pre-arranged the border check and secured the parking, and the return was booked at the same time, which kept the aircraft and crew on the ground in Arizona for the week.
A SPRING WEEKEND · THE BORDER CLOCK
A party that wanted to land in the afternoon for a ballgame
Biggin Hill - Phoenix Sky Harbor, Embraer Praetor 600, about 12 h 00 min plus a stop · 4 pax
They wanted to be in the stands on the Saturday afternoon. The customs window closes at 19:45 at Sky Harbor and at 19:00 at Scottsdale, so we timed the morning departure from Britain to land around midday, Arizona time, and kept the car at the handler's door. A later landing would have pushed the party into the evening edge of the window. The decision took one call.
A DOG ON BOARD · TWO PIECES OF PAPER
Three adults and a labrador for a ten-day stay
Edinburgh - Phoenix Sky Harbor, Bombardier Global 6000, about 10 h 00 min · 3 pax + dog
The CDC receipt for the dog was printed before departure. The harder part was the way home: the Great Britain health certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before landing. The family booked a vet in Arizona for the middle of the stay, asked for the car at the aircraft door because of the heat, and the dog slept through most of the crossing.
EMPTY LEG · THE WAY HOME
A jet already going your way
Phoenix Sky Harbor - London Stansted, Bombardier Global 6000 empty leg, about 9 h 00 min · 4 pax
A long-range jet had delivered a party for a golf week and was flying back with nobody on board. The client offered a three-day window and not a fixed date, which is what makes these deals possible, and paid far less than for a fresh charter on an overnight eastbound departure that landed in time for breakfast.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Phoenix
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Phoenix?
About 10 h 35 min nonstop in a Global 6000 from Farnborough, and about 35 minutes less from Glasgow or Aberdeen. A Praetor 600 or a Challenger 605 is planned with a stop at Gander and takes about 12 h 00 min in the air plus an hour on the ground. The routed distance to Sky Harbor is between 4,474 and 4,773 nautical miles depending on the British airfield. Arizona does not change its clocks, so Phoenix is seven hours behind Britain in winter and eight hours behind in British summer time.
2How much does a private jet to Phoenix cost?
From about £78,900 one way for a Praetor 600 via Gander from Farnborough. A Global 6000 flying nonstop starts from about £128,550 from Farnborough, and a Challenger 605 with a stop at Gander from about £101,400 from Stansted. The weeks of the Phoenix Open, the January car auction and spring training cost more, and an empty leg can cost far less. The calculator on this page gives an indicative figure for your dates.
3Which airport should a private jet use for Phoenix?
Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX / KPHX) for most trips from abroad. It is about 6 km from the centre of Phoenix, has two private terminals, Cutter Aviation and Jackson Jet Center, and the border service lists arrivals every day from 08:15 to 19:45. Scottsdale (SCF / KSDL) is the choice for the resorts: its customs service runs every day from 09:00 to 19:00, but it has a voluntary curfew from 22:00 to 06:00 and a runway weight limit of 75,000 lb. Mesa Gateway (AZA / KIWA) clears the border on weekdays and by appointment. Deer Valley, Chandler, Goodyear and Sedona list no customs. We choose by your address and by the customs windows.
4Can a midsize jet fly from London to Phoenix nonstop?
No. A Citation Latitude is rated at about 2,500 nautical miles and a Challenger 350 at 3,200, against 4,474 to 4,773 for the whole trip, and the second leg from Gander is 2,793 nautical miles, which is beyond the Latitude and tight for the Challenger 350. A Praetor 600, published at 3,900 nautical miles with four passengers, and a Challenger 605, at about 4,000, fall short of the crossing as well, so they stop at Gander. The long-range jets, from the Global 6000 up, fly the route nonstop.
5Do British passengers need a visa or an ESTA to fly to Phoenix?
No visa is needed for up to 90 days of business or tourism, but every British passenger needs an approved ESTA and a passport valid for the whole stay. The ESTA does not guarantee entry, and work for a US company, an arrest or an earlier overstay can call for a visa instead. The pilot files the passenger manifest before departure and the officer clears the party on the CBP ramp. Use the official ESTA site only, and apply well before the flight. On a private aircraft the ESTA normally works only if the operator holds Visa Waiver Program carrier status, which we check before we quote.
6Can I take my dog to Phoenix on a private jet?
Yes, and the dog flies in the cabin with you. The way out needs a CDC Dog Import Form receipt for a healthy, microchipped dog of at least six months. Arizona also asks for a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection that shows a current rabies vaccination, and we confirm which certificate the state accepts for an animal arriving from abroad. The way home needs a Great Britain pet health certificate dated within ten days of arrival, a rabies vaccine at least 21 days old and, for a dog, a tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork in writing for your dates.
