Private jet charter in Liege

An hour from a London airfield, give or take, Liège has an airport that never sleeps: a Belgian freight hub with about 60 flights a night, a 3,690 m runway and a quiet corner kept for business jets. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around that airport and around the three reasons people actually go there, which are the city, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit and the Ardennes. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Liège Airport (LGG / EBLG) lies about 9 km west of the centre, runs customs and immigration round the clock, has no slot requirement and takes anything up to a long-range jet, so the real decisions are the size of the party, the weekend you want and whether the trip should land in Liège at all, with Brussels, Charleroi and Maastricht Aachen all within reach.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Liège depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Liège?

Under an hour from the London fields in a light jet, a little over an hour from the Midlands and the West Country, and around an hour and a half from Glasgow, with one hour of clock difference to add on arrival because Belgium keeps Central European time. At 217 to 492 nautical miles this is a short corridor, and the figures below include taxi, climb and approach, which make up much of the flight. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave a London airfield at eight in the morning and you are on the ground at Liège a little before ten local time, since Belgium is an hour ahead of Britain. The airport is about 9 km west of the city centre, and a car from the business aviation terminal typically reaches it in 15 to 20 minutes, because the terminal has a direct connection to the motorway. That puts a client who left a London office at half past seven in a Liège meeting room before lunch, and one who wants dinner in the city and a flight home at midnight is also in luck, since the airport itself stays open all night. Count the drive to the British airfield and the processing at each end, and the whole journey from central London to central Liège comes to roughly three hours.

Light jet or midsize: the runway never decides, the apron might

– Up to five or six people with ordinary bags, take the light jet. Under an hour in the air is no test of a small cabin, and on a sector this short every light jet is priced near the operator's minimum, so the saving over a midsize is the biggest line on the quote. A Citation CJ3+ or a Phenom 300E needs only a fraction of the 3,690 m runway and parks at the ASL business aviation terminal;

– With a bigger party, a week of luggage or a stop in Switzerland on the same booking, a midsize or super-midsize jet such as the Citation XLS+ or the Challenger 350 is the next step. The terminal's own apron takes aircraft up to 30 m in wingspan, 34 tonnes and 30 seats, which covers every cabin in this class;

– Large-cabin and long-range jets are the reason to pick Liège over its neighbours. The biggest Globals and Gulfstreams usually exceed the terminal's weight limit, so they park on the main apron under the other general aviation handler, Aviapartner Executive. That is a second booking to get right, and it has to be right before the quote is final.

Prices for the private jet flights to Liège

Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into Liège Airport on light and midsize jets. On a sector this short several rows show the same figure, because the price sits close to a minimum charge and not on the mileage. Race weekends at Spa-Francorchamps and the Christmas village sit above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Private jet flights from Liège

Liège is a base with a long reach and, unlike most Belgian fields, a runway to match. Paris is under an hour in a light jet, Zurich, Geneva and Munich are about an hour, Innsbruck an hour and ten, Nice an hour and a half and the Balearics a little over two hours. The 3,690 m runway and the round-the-clock operation make long-haul departures practical, so the two bottom rows are priced from Liège itself. Typical one-way prices:

Why the long legs can start here

Antwerp has a runway of 1,510 m, and Brussels is slot-coordinated with night rules of its own. Liège has neither problem. The main runway is 3,690 m of asphalt with a category III instrument approach at both ends, the aerodrome, customs, immigration, handling and de-icing are all listed as round-the-clock services, and the airport is not slot-coordinated. A Global 6000 loaded for the 2,850 nautical miles to Dubai or the 3,348 to Teterboro has the pavement it needs, and fire cover of category 10 is the top of the scale. That is why the two bottom rows start at Liège and not at Brussels, with no car transfer in the plan. The one thing to settle is the apron: the terminal's own stand has weight and wingspan limits, and a heavy jet is parked on the main apron under a different handler.

Before you accept an onward quote from Liège

– Which handler, and so which apron. A quote for a large-cabin jet should name Aviapartner Executive and the main apron, and one for a light or midsize jet should name the ASL terminal. If the quote does not say, the stand has not been checked;

– What time you are coming home. Liège is open all night, so a late return from Nice or Palma is not a curfew problem as it can be at Charleroi or Antwerp. The rule that does bite after dark is the noise rule: the airport bars older recertificated jets overnight, and every aircraft needs an ICAO Annex 16 noise certificate. We check the aircraft before the quote, not after;

– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Liège to Zurich, then Munich, then back costs less arranged as a single trip than as three, because the aircraft and crew stay with you and do not return to base between legs.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Liège:

Light jets, and where most bookings land

Under an hour from London is the natural class for four or five people with ordinary luggage. At Liège the light jet parks at the ASL terminal, and nothing in this group lacks the range for the sector, so the money goes on the hour and not on capability you will not use.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for a bigger party or a northern departure

A larger cabin earns its place for six or more people, for a departure from Scotland, or when the same aircraft carries on to Switzerland or the Riviera. Every cabin in this group fits the terminal's own apron, and the runway never limits it.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a delegation travelling as one party, a team that works in the air, and trips that carry on to the Gulf or New York. Liège is one of the few Belgian airports where these cabins leave from the field itself, and the biggest of them park on the main apron under the second handler.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the Benelux and Rhineland hops of about 150 nautical miles or less, to Maastricht, Brussels or Amsterdam. A jet on that distance is billed near its minimum anyway, so a Pilatus PC-12 is the sensible choice for a party of fewer than nine.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: Liège to the Spa-Francorchamps area, to Brussels Airport or to Maastricht, and any private site with no runway. In Belgium the landing site is agreed before the quote, not after.

Airbus H125 · 5 seatson request
Airbus H130 · 6 seatson request
Airbus H135 · 6 seatson request
Bell 429 · 6 seatson request

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Liège sits between Brussels, Maastricht and Antwerp, all of which handle business aircraft, and ASL bases aircraft on the field itself, so there is often a jet within an hour of the airport. Outside race weekends that is usually where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Liège

One airport does most of the work, and three others turn up in quotes for specific reasons. Each of them behaves differently, and it helps to know how before a quote arrives with one of them in it.

Airport What it gives you
Liège Airport
LGG / EBLG
The answer for almost every trip, and an airport built around the night. About 9 km west of the centre of Liège, with two asphalt runways: 04R/22L, 3,690 by 45 m, with a category III approach at both ends, and 04L/22R, 2,340 by 45 m. Aerodrome, customs, immigration, handling, fuel and de-icing are all listed as round-the-clock services, handling is compulsory above 3 tonnes for aircraft not based here, and the airport is not slot-coordinated. Business jets are handled by ASL Private Jet Services in a terminal of their own, and Aviapartner Executive takes other general aviation on the main apron
Brussels Airport, Zaventem
BRU / EBBR
The capital's airport, about 12 km north-east of Brussels and some 74 km west-north-west of Liège in a straight line, which is an hour or more by road. Three runways, the longest 3,638 m. A slot-coordinated airport where arrival and departure slots are mandatory, with ExecuJet in Building 28 and Aviapartner Executive as the two general aviation handlers. The ExecuJet terminal lists 07:00 to 23:00 local time on weekdays and shorter hours at weekends, with round-the-clock operation on request. Right for a Brussels meeting, and wrong for a Liège one
Brussels South Charleroi
CRL / EBCI
A low-cost airline base some 72 km west-south-west of Liège in a straight line, with two runways of 2,905 and 3,055 m and a category III approach on runway 24. The Belgian AIP lists the aerodrome as closed to movements from 22:00 on its own time basis, which we convert and confirm for your date, handling is compulsory for visiting aircraft and a general aviation request needs 24 hours' notice. We mention it so that you recognise the name if an operator proposes it: a contingency, not a rival to Liège
Maastricht Aachen
MST / EHBK
A Dutch airfield, 9 km north-east of Maastricht and 28 km north-west of Aachen, and about 38 km north-east of Liège in a straight line. One 2,500 m runway with a category III approach on runway 21, and general aviation handled by Jet Center from the east side of the field. Because it is in the Netherlands, a flight from Britain lands there on Dutch formalities, and the sensible reason to choose it is a trip that is really to Maastricht or Aachen. Hours and customs we confirm for your date

Four points settle most Liège arrivals:

Choose the handler

At Liège there are two, and the aircraft decides. ASL Private Jet Services runs the dedicated business aviation terminal, with a VIP lounge, a crew lounge with a rest area, a conference room, a meeting room upstairs that overlooks the runway, hangar space, de-icing and a direct link to the motorway, for aircraft up to 30 m in wingspan and 34 tonnes. Aviapartner Executive handles the rest of general aviation on the main apron, which is where the largest long-range jets go.

Hours, slots and noise

The airport is open round the clock and is not slot-coordinated, so a late departure after a dinner in the city is an ordinary request. One directory lists the ASL desk as 07:00 to 19:00, so for a night arrival or departure we ask the handler to confirm the staffing in writing. Aircraft must hold an ICAO Annex 16 noise certificate, older recertificated jets are barred overnight, and fire cover is category 10.

Border and passport

Belgium is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear the border at the airport, and at Liège customs and immigration are listed as a round-the-clock service. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years ago and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints.

Car and late nights

Give us the handler as well as the flight, because a driver told only the airport name may wait at the wrong door. The city is 15 to 20 minutes from the terminal and the nearest main railway station is Liège-Guillemins, so the car is part of the plan. For a race weekend at Spa, order the car and the Monday morning transfer in the same booking.

business aviation

Border, passport and the way home

Because Belgium is inside Schengen, the first landing from Britain is where the formalities happen, and Liège does them at any hour. The drive on to Maastricht or Aachen crosses no routine passport control, though some of Belgium's neighbours introduce temporary border checks, so the passports stay in the pocket and not in the luggage. The way home runs the other way. Britain expects a General Aviation Report filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and passengers who are not British or Irish citizens need an electronic travel authorisation. We arrange the filing with the handler and keep the timings visible, so the aircraft is not held on the apron.

From the apron to the Meuse

Liège is a river city of about 198,000 people, with some 750,000 in the wider area, built where the Meuse meets the Ourthe, and the airport lies to the west of it on the plateau. The distances that matter are the short ones into the city and the longer ones east and south, to the circuit, the Ardennes and the border.

Liège Airport to central Liège
about 9 km to the east, which is why a business traveller can be at a desk within the hour

Flying to Liège with a dog or a cat

Belgium asks for the standard EU paperwork, and a flight of under an hour suits most animals: the dog or cat sits in the cabin beside you, never in a hold. What matters is the date on the certificate, which is good for entry to the EU for only ten days.

private flight with animals

What Belgium and the British rules ask for:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination and not after it;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 full days elapsed before travel, so the youngest animal Belgium accepts is 15 weeks old;
  • An Animal Health Certificate issued in Britain by an official vet within ten days before departure, valid for ten days for entry to the EU and valid for the return as stated on the certificate, and a new one for each trip;
  • Presentation to customs at a travellers' point of entry immediately after landing. Customs and immigration at Liège are on the airport's round-the-clock list, and we confirm with the handler that the animal can be presented there on the day;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, since a larger number counts as a commercial movement;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before the return flight to Britain, recorded with the product, the date and the time. Cats are exempt, and Belgium asks for no tapeworm treatment on the way in.

What catches owners out on the Liège run

– The tapeworm window is for the way home, and it is five days wide. On a weekend the treatment can be given in Britain just before you leave, while on a longer stay it is a vet appointment in Belgium. Count back from the landing time in Britain and not from the date;

– A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU from England, Scotland or Wales, so the certificate must be a fresh one for each trip, and the rabies cover has to stay valid for the whole stay;

– A race weekend at Spa or a Christmas village weekend with a dog is an ordinary booking. Settle the hotel, the car and any onward helicopter before the quote, because each one has to accept the animal separately.

Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the flight back we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.

The Liège calendar: a cycling classic, a racetrack and a Christmas village

Liège has a working week and a handful of dates that matter. The pressure points are a cycling classic in April, motorsport weekends at Spa through the spring and summer, the Outremeuse feast in mid-August and a long Christmas village in December. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

Late April
Liège-Bastogne-Liège, known as La Doyenne and the oldest of the five cycling Monuments. The race starts in Liège, turns at Bastogne about 95 km to the south and comes back to finish in the city centre. Hotels and roads in the centre are under pressure on the day, but for private flights it is a small bump and not a peak
Spring
The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, a round of the World Endurance Championship, is run at the circuit in spring. It brings teams, sponsors and hospitality guests to the Ardennes, and Liège is the airport to ask about, as for the other race weekends
Summer
The Belgian Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Spa are run at Spa-Francorchamps, near Stavelot in the Ardennes and about half an hour from Liège. The Grand Prix falls in July or later in the summer depending on the calendar, and it is not held in every season, so ask which weekends are real. Apron stands can be reserved or restricted on race weekends, so ask early
Last two weekends of July
Tomorrowland is held at De Schorre park in Boom, about 16 km south of Antwerp and some 90 km north-west of Liège in a straight line, with a capacity of about 200,000 a weekend. It is an Antwerp and Brussels weekend and not a Liège one, so if a quote for the festival names Liège, ask for the actual airport
15 August
The Outremeuse feast, in the old quarter across the Meuse: a religious procession and folk traditions built around the figure of Tchantchès, with pékèt, beer and sausages in the streets. A local feast rather than a corporate one
Every Sunday
La Batte, the market that runs along the Meuse, is held on Sundays all year. It is a reason for a weekend and not a pressure point for bookings
December
The Village de Noël, with about 200 chalets in the centre, runs for more than a month through December, and the ice rink on Place Cathédrale stays open into early January. It is often presented as the oldest Christmas market in Belgium, and it produces weekend city breaks, often with a dog
All year, on weekdays
The working base: the freight operators at the airport, the port of Liège, the third largest river port in Europe, the arms and aerospace industry, with FN Herstal and CMI Defence headquartered here, and a university of about 20,000 students. Fixed-date trips that are back in Britain the same evening

Why a race weekend costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Liège is well placed in it. What gets tight is the stands at the one business aviation terminal, the cars with drivers and the rooms near the circuit, all in the same days, and the Brussels alternative has weekend night slot rules of its own. A booking made ten days before a Grand Prix weekend can still be done, but it pays more, and it may mean an aircraft positioned from Brussels or Maastricht. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weekends Liège is one of the easier places in Europe to fly into, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Liège price down

  • Keep the aircraft small. A light jet is the cheapest honest quote on this sector and it parks at the terminal built for it, and the saving over a midsize cabin pays for the car and the hotel;
  • Ask where the aircraft sleeps. ASL bases aircraft at Liège, so a jet already on the field needs no positioning from Britain, and on a corridor this short positioning is a large share of the bill;
  • Use the night. Liège never closes, so a late-evening return does not force the crew to stay over, which is a cost at fields that shut at 22:00 or 23:00;
  • Move the dates off the race weekends if you can, and book the return as part of the same trip and not as a separate charter.

Types of flights

Liège produces a different mix from a holiday destination, because it is a working city with a freight airport, a defence industry, an old university and a racetrack in its back garden.

  • Motorsport weekends at Spa-Francorchamps, from the 6 Hours and the 24 Hours to the Grand Prix, usually small parties who want the closest practical airport;
  • Logistics and freight business at the airport itself, the largest cargo airport in Belgium, which runs a night programme of about 60 flights;
  • Industry and defence visits, with FN Herstal and CMI Defence headquartered in the city and a river port that ranks third in Europe;
  • Ardennes weekends: forest, cycling, walking and canoeing in the hills south and east of the city;
  • Brussels business that lands at Liège when slots or night rules at Zaventem get in the way;
  • Cross-border trips to Maastricht and Aachen, and Christmas village weekends in December.

Liège is a natural day trip from London. Wheels up at half past seven, on the ground a little before half past nine local time, and away again late in the evening gives you a full working day in Wallonia and your own bed that night, and because the airport never closes, the return time is set by your meeting and not by a curfew. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote the day trip both ways so that the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Liège has an advantage here: the field is a base as well as a destination, so part of the supply comes from aircraft going out and coming home, and not only from visitors.

Where Liège empty legs come from

– Based aircraft. A jet that flies a charter out of Liège has to come home, and the return leg is the one offered, often on a short European sector;

– Race and market weekends. Aircraft bring parties to Spa, Brussels and Maastricht and go home empty on the Monday, and those legs appear in the days that follow;

– Positioning hops. Aircraft that bring a party to Brussels or Antwerp often move empty to Liège for the next job, and the short Benelux legs between them can be the cheapest of all.

Because the corridor is short and thin, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Liège match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Liège a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and not the middle. The city is small enough to cross by car, and the places where rotary flight changes the journey are the run to the circuit, the Brussels and Dutch airfields, and any site in the Ardennes with no road worth the name.

Liège Airport to the Spa-Francorchamps area
24 nm in a straight line, against a drive of about half an hour from the city
typically 20 minutes
Liège Airport to Brussels Airport
41 nm, against an hour or more by road
typically 25 minutes
Liège Airport to Maastricht Aachen
21 nm, the nearest business aviation field over the Dutch border
typically 15 minutes
Liège Airport to Antwerp
52 nm, for a city meeting at the other end
typically 30 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter in Belgium cannot land wherever it likes. Helistrips and heliports need clearance from the responsible authority before arrival, hospital helipads are reserved for air ambulance flights, and a site outside the official publication is for private flights with the owner's permission. A hotel garden or an estate in the Ardennes therefore needs its status confirmed before we quote. At Liège itself the Belgian aeronautical information publication limits helicopter operations to a designated area of the airport;

– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud and fog can hold a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a time-critical transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– For a race weekend, book the helicopter together with the jet, or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for short transfers, the wider H130 for estate and hotel landings, and the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Liège charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK

A morning in Wallonia and home for dinner

Biggin Hill - Liège and return, Citation CJ3+, about 55 min each way · 4 pax

Wheels up at half past seven, on the ground a little before half past nine local time, in the meeting by eleven and back at Biggin Hill late in the evening. The aircraft and crew waited at the ASL terminal rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and still comes in below two separate one-way charters. Because the airport never closes, the return time was set by the end of the meeting and not by a curfew.

MOTORSPORT · A RACE WEEKEND AT SPA

Eight guests and a hospitality pass each

Farnborough - Liège, Citation XLS+, about 55 min · 8 pax

They asked for Brussels because everyone knows the name, but the circuit is in the Ardennes, about half an hour from Liège, so the aircraft went to Liège instead. We booked the stand weeks ahead, because apron space can be restricted on race weekends, and put the car for Francorchamps and the Monday morning return in the same message.

AFTER MIDNIGHT · THE FIELD THAT NEVER CLOSES

A board dinner that ran late

London City - Liège and return, Citation CJ3+, about 55 min each way · 3 pax

The meeting was in the city, the dinner ran on, and the return left Liège a little after midnight. Customs and immigration are listed as a round-the-clock service, the aircraft was a modern jet with its noise certificate, and we asked the ASL desk to confirm its staffing for the hour in writing. The same evening at a field that shuts at 22:00 or 23:00 would have meant a night in a hotel.

LONG-HAUL · A LARGE CABIN FROM LIÈGE

A Gulf trip with no car to Brussels

Liège - Dubai, Global 6000, about 6 h 10 min · 9 pax

A delegation based in the Meuse valley wanted a large-cabin jet for Dubai. The 3,690 m runway and the round-the-clock operation meant the aircraft left from Liège itself, parked on the main apron under the second handler, with no 90 km drive to the capital and no departure slot to request. Handler, apron and catering were settled before the quote went out.

A DOG ON BOARD · A WINTER WEEKEND

Four adults and a spaniel for the Christmas village

Southampton - Liège, Phenom 300E, about 55 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the dog was presented to customs at the airport on landing. The vet appointment for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, confirmed with the handler that the animal could be presented at Liège, and the hotel in the old town took the dog.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST

A jet already going your way

Liège - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 55 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party to Spa for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Liège

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Liège?

About 55 minutes from Biggin Hill, London City, Luton or Farnborough in a light jet, covering roughly 217 to 248 nautical miles from the London fields. From Birmingham allow about 1 h 05 min in a midsize cabin, from Manchester about 1 h 10 min, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 1 h 25 min to 1 h 30 min. Belgium is one hour ahead of Britain, so an eight o'clock departure lands shortly before ten local time.

2How much does a private jet to Liège cost?

From about £5,300 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill or London City, and £5,700 from Luton or Farnborough in a Phenom. A midsize cabin from Birmingham starts at £6,800 and from Manchester at £7,100, and from Scotland allow £8,900 to £9,250. Several routes show the same price because short sectors are billed at a minimum charge. Race weekends at Spa and Christmas village weekends price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Liège?

Liège Airport (LGG / EBLG) for most trips. It is about 9 km from the centre, open round the clock with customs and immigration, not slot-coordinated and equipped with a 3,690 m runway, and business jets are handled by ASL Private Jet Services. Brussels Airport (BRU / EBBR) is some 74 km away in a straight line but slot-coordinated, Charleroi (CRL / EBCI) is a contingency that closes to movements in the evening, and Maastricht Aachen (MST / EHBK) is a Dutch field about 38 km away, for trips to Maastricht or Aachen.

4Can a large jet land at Liège, and does the airport close at night?

Yes to the first, and no to the second. The main runway is 3,690 m with a category III approach at both ends, the airport is open round the clock and it is not slot-coordinated, so long-range jets operate from it. The largest types park on the main apron under Aviapartner Executive, because the ASL terminal takes aircraft up to 30 m in wingspan and 34 tonnes. Older recertificated jets are barred overnight and every aircraft needs a noise certificate, so we check the aircraft before we quote.

5Which airport is closest to Spa-Francorchamps, and when should I book?

Liège, which is typically the most practical airport for the circuit; the circuit is about half an hour from the city by road. The Belgian Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Spa are summer events and the 6 Hours is run in spring. Allow five to six weeks for any race weekend, because stands, cars and rooms fill in the same days and Brussels has weekend night slot rules of its own. Outside the race weekends a day or two is usually enough.

6Can I take my dog to Liège on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Belgium asks for a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a vaccination at least 21 days old and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry to the EU. Customs check the animal on arrival, and we confirm with the handler that this can be done at Liège on the day. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
