Private jet charter in Courmayeur
Booking a private jet from London to Courmayeur starts with a fact that surprises people: the resort has no airport at all, no runway and no jet strip, and the useful question is which of four airports in two countries to land at. Private Jets UK plans every Courmayeur charter as a flight to Aosta, Turin, Geneva or Milan Malpensa followed by a drive of 30 minutes to two and a quarter hours, or a helicopter. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The nearest field, Aosta Corrado Gex, is real but small: a runway of 1,499 m, daylight hours and a notice period that suits a light or midsize jet and rules out most larger ones. Which door fits depends on the aircraft, the hour and the state of the Mont Blanc tunnel.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Courmayeur depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Courmayeur?
About an hour and a half from Biggin Hill or London City to Aosta in a light jet, then half an hour on the A5 motorway, with one hour of clock difference to allow for because Italy keeps Central European time. The British fields we use lie 462 to 783 nautical miles from Aosta, which makes the sector a medium hop from the south of England and a longer one from Scotland. The table gives the flight to Aosta, the airport nearest to the resort; the last stretch from the other gateways is priced further down.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you are on the ground at Aosta around half past nine local time, with the car waiting beside the terminal. The airport lies about 3 km from the town of Aosta, and the motorway to Courmayeur is about 35 km, or roughly half an hour in ordinary traffic. A guest who left a London office at half past six is therefore in the village for a late-morning coffee, which is difficult to match by any scheduled route: Courmayeur is a long train and bus journey from Turin or Milan. The helicopter from the airfield takes about 15 minutes by our estimate. The catch is the clock at the other end. Aosta as a rule works by daylight and closes soon after sunset, so a December departure from Britain has to be timed to land well before dark.
Light jet or midsize: how the choice goes on this route
– Up to four people, take a light jet. It is the aircraft the Aosta runway of 1,499 m is comfortable with, ninety minutes in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is no hardship, and the saving over a midsize cabin buys the helicopter or a week of lift passes;
– Past four, or for skis, boot bags and a week of layers, we quote a midsize alongside and show both figures. The operator then confirms the landing performance for Aosta in writing, at the weight and temperature of your day, before the quote is accepted;
– A heavy jet is a Turin or Geneva aircraft. Aosta publishes rescue and fire cover of category 2, with the other categories only on request, and a large cabin also needs the notice, daylight and approach conditions to line up. Nobody should arrive at Aosta in a large jet on hope.

Prices for the private jet flights to Courmayeur
Typical jet legs from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into Aosta. The drive or helicopter to the resort is quoted with the jet and is not included. Christmas week, New Year and the February half-term price above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Aosta is not the only door, and for larger parties or a tunnel crossing it is not the best one. From Biggin Hill the same light jet reaches each of the five airports below within about £1,200 of the others, so the choice is made by the last stretch, the hour of arrival and the cabin, not by the flight price.

Private jet flights from Courmayeur
Nobody takes off from Courmayeur in a jet, so the way home is the arrival in reverse: down the valley by car or helicopter and out from the airport you chose. A week on the snow is often the middle of a longer trip, and the Italian Alps sit close to a good number of other places. The lists below show typical one-way prices from Aosta, on the light jet that suits its runway.

Why the return is planned from the valley floor
The village sits at 1,224 m, the valley floor holds the only runway within reach, and the way down is a single road, the A5. A client who stays at Aosta overnight before an early departure removes the one risk that matters in winter: arriving at a daylight-only airfield with too little daylight. Aosta publishes three hours' notice for customs and immigration on an international flight and 48 hours' notice for commercial passenger flights, which the operator confirms on request, so the departure time is fixed before the ski pass is bought, and the car leaves the village counting back from take-off, not from breakfast. Turin is the alternative when the aircraft is larger or the day starts late: it lies 34 nautical miles from Aosta in a straight line, and its runway of 3,300 m and general aviation terminal take the aircraft Aosta cannot.
Before you accept a Courmayeur onward quote
– Which airport the quote starts from. A price that names Courmayeur itself for a fixed-wing aircraft was written without checking, and one that names Aosta for a large jet needs the performance and fire-cover answer in writing before it counts;
– Whether the legs are one booking. A week in Courmayeur followed by a weekend in Geneva, Zurich or on the coast costs less arranged as one trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of flying home empty and returning, and the empty-leg market works in the same direction.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Courmayeur:
Light jets, the natural fit for Aosta
With a runway of 1,499 m, hours that follow the daylight and a notice period for commercial passenger flights, Aosta suits the smaller end of the fleet best, and these four are the aircraft we put on it for four or five people with ordinary luggage.
Midsize, for skis, boards and boot bags
A week on the snow fills a hold faster than it fills seats. These cabins can serve Aosta when the operator confirms the performance for the day, and Turin and Geneva remove the question altogether.
Super-midsize and large
For a party that travels as one group, a family with staff, or a trip that continues from the Alps to the Gulf or the Americas. These are Turin and Geneva aircraft, with runways of 3,300 m and 3,900 m and terminals used to them.
Turboprops
A Pilatus PC-12 or a King Air 350 is a reasonable choice for Aosta, because the shorter runway and the mountain conditions suit slower approaches. Neither is quoted for the resort itself.
Helicopters
The last stretch for those who prefer the sky to the A5, and the way to reach Courmayeur from Turin, Geneva or Malpensa in under an hour. The machine depends on the party, the weather and the landing site.

This is a small part of what is available. In the ski season many aircraft are based in Geneva, Milan, Turin or on the Riviera, so there is usually a jet within an hour of the Aosta Valley, and a quote may name Geneva or Nice as the positioning point. For a resort without an airport of its own that is normal, and it is often where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports for Courmayeur
Courmayeur has no airport, and the right way to read the map is from the valley outward: Aosta is the nearest door and the smallest, Turin is the Italian one for larger aircraft, Geneva is the French-speaking one on the other side of the tunnel, and Malpensa and Sion are for particular days. Which of them is right depends on the aircraft, the clock, the pet paperwork and how much of the border you want to cross.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Aosta Valley, Corrado Gex AOT / LIMW |
The nearest airport, in Saint-Christophe, about 35 km and roughly half an hour from Courmayeur. One asphalt runway, 09/27, of 1,499 m by 30 m at about 546 m above sea level, with a category I instrument approach on runway 27 that only operators authorised by the Italian civil aviation authority may fly. The published aerodrome entry gives hours of sunrise to sunset plus or minus 30 minutes, customs and immigration on three hours' notice given in the flight plan or by phone to the airport, 48 hours' notice for commercial passenger flights, no low-visibility operations and wind shear in strong wind and mountain breeze. Handling is compulsory, Jet A1 is on the field, and rescue and fire cover is category 2 with categories 3 to 5 on request. A light or midsize jet that lands in daylight is the right use, and a large one is not |
| Turin Caselle TRN / LIMF |
The Italian gateway for larger aircraft: one runway, 18/36, of 3,300 m by 60 m at about 301 m, 16 km north-north-west of the city, with a general aviation terminal and a handler. Slot coordination can apply for private flights and ramp space tightens at busy periods, which on a winter Saturday means asking early. The A5 motorway covers about 150 km to Courmayeur in around an hour and a half. The airport to choose for a heavy jet, a late arrival, or a party that wants the whole trip inside Italy |
| Geneva International GVA / LSGG |
The big-cabin gateway on the other side of the massif. A single runway of 3,900 m, a Business Aviation Terminal with private immigration and customs, and Jet Aviation's FBO open every day from 06:00 to 22:00. Geneva asks for prior permission for every general and business aviation movement, requested through the handler. The road to Courmayeur is about 100 to 119 km depending on the source, 1 h 30 to 1 h 45 in good conditions, and the whole drive depends on the Mont Blanc tunnel. Winter weekends and the week of the Davos forum in January are the pinch points for ramp space |
| Milan Malpensa MXP / LIMC |
The long-haul and large-cabin fallback in Lombardy, about 212 to 220 km from Courmayeur and 2 h 15 by road, or a helicopter of around 50 minutes by our estimate. It is the longest drive of the group and it earns its place when an intercontinental connection or a very large aircraft is part of the trip, or when Turin and Geneva are both full |
| Sion SIR / LSGS |
A Swiss airport in the Valais, with a runway of 2,000 m by 40 m shared with the Swiss Air Force and an airport-specific crew qualification for instrument approaches. It lies only 30 nautical miles from Courmayeur in a straight line, with the high Alps in between, so it makes sense as a helicopter transfer of around 25 minutes or for a trip that splits the week with Verbier, and not as a road option |
Four points settle most Courmayeur arrivals:
Choose the gateway
Aosta for a light or midsize jet that lands in daylight, with the resort half an hour away. Turin for a larger cabin, a late arrival or a day with weather at Aosta. Geneva when the trip joins Chamonix or Verbier, or when the tunnel is open and the aircraft is large. Malpensa for the connection, Sion only with a helicopter. The flight costs about the same to each; the last stretch is what differs.
Hours, notice and daylight
Aosta publishes three hours' notice for customs on an international flight and 48 hours for commercial passenger flights, usually works by daylight, and the operator confirms the current terms on request. Geneva needs prior permission for every business aviation movement. Turin can ask for a slot. A helicopter over the mountains flies by day and in useful visibility, so a late arrival at any airport usually ends in a car.
Border and passport
Britain is outside Schengen, while Italy, France and Switzerland are inside it. You clear passport control at the first airport you land at. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport less than ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. Keep passports in the car on the road through the tunnel.
The tunnel and the road
The Mont Blanc tunnel is the only direct road between Chamonix and Courmayeur and is sometimes closed for works, so a Geneva plan needs the dates checked first. The alternative is a long way round over the Great St Bernard route. We give the driver the terminal as well as the flight, and the car is booked for the real arrival time.

Border, passport and permits for a Courmayeur flight
Three Schengen countries meet over Mont Blanc, which means one passport check at the first landing and, on the way home, a General Aviation Report for Britain. At Aosta and Turin the check is Italian; at Geneva it is done in the Swiss business terminal, after which the road runs through France and the tunnel into Italy. Geneva also has a French sector, a pier of the airline terminal reached by road through the customs gate at Ferney-Voltaire, which serves airline passengers going between Geneva and France and is no help to a London charter. A first-time visitor to the Schengen area may be asked to register a photograph and fingerprints, a free step whose record stays valid for three years. For the way home, the General Aviation Report is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and passengers who are neither British nor Irish citizens may need an electronic travel authorisation for the UK.
The landing permit depends on the airport and on the kind of flight. Italy asks operators from outside the EU, the United Kingdom included, to request authorisation from its civil aviation authority at least 3 working days before a single air taxi flight on an aircraft with fewer than 20 passenger seats and at least 6 working days before a charter passenger flight. The authority's page says nothing about private non-commercial flying, so we ask the operator which regime applies to your booking and get the answer in writing. A British operator running a charter into Switzerland needs a Swiss permit: individual permits for up to three flights in three months are requested at least 72 hours before the first flight, and a chain of four or more flights needs an operating permit filed at least 30 days ahead. The operator files and we track.

From the apron to the pistes
Courmayeur lies at 1,224 m at the foot of the Italian side of Mont Blanc, a mountain village with a ski area of roughly 43 km of marked pistes, 20 lifts and a top piste at around 2,755 m. The draw is the mountain itself. The Skyway Monte Bianco rises in two stages from the Pontal d'Entrèves station at about 1,300 m, through Pavillon du Mont-Fréty at 2,173 m, to Pointe Helbronner at 3,466 m, and from there a second cable car crosses the glacier to the Aiguille du Midi above Chamonix. Skiers with a guide ride down the Vallée Blanche into France. Most of this is closer than it looks, and the tunnel is why.

The tunnel deserves a paragraph of its own. The speed band of 50 to 70 km/h and the 150 m gap that drivers must keep explain why a queue forms quickly in the high season. The operators have closed it in both directions for about 15 weeks in some autumns while a section of the vault was rebuilt, and in other autumns the works are limited to night closures and alternating one-way traffic. Whoever plans a Geneva or Chamonix leg checks the published calendar before the aircraft is chosen, because the alternative is a long drive round by the Great St Bernard. Aosta and Turin sit on the Italian side and are not affected.
Flying to Courmayeur with a dog or a cat
Travelling to the Aosta Valley with a pet is an ordinary booking, and the flight is the easy part: the animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold. The paperwork is where the trip is won or lost, because the choice of airport also chooses the rulebook. Land at Aosta or Turin and only Italy checks the animal, as a member of the EU; land at Geneva and Switzerland checks it first and Italy after.

What Italy, as an EU country, asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:
- An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before the animal travels;
- An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU, and valid for the return as stated on the certificate. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
- No more than five animals per traveller, presented at a travellers' point of entry, which we confirm in writing for the airport;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.
What Switzerland asks for when a pet lands at Geneva: a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and either a valid Swiss or EU pet passport or an official veterinary certificate issued in the country of departure. There is a mandatory pet check at the red customs exit, and an animal with missing documents can be refused. The Swiss veterinary office names Basel, Geneva and Zurich as the entry points for animals flown in, so Geneva is the Swiss airport to use.
What catches owners out on the Courmayeur run
– Two rulebooks in one morning. A British dog that lands at Geneva has cleared Switzerland and then drives through France into Italy. How the Italian side treats an animal that has already entered Switzerland is something we settle with the authorities for your dates, and we plan on the stricter reading. If the trip allows it, Aosta or Turin keep the whole journey under one set of rules;
– The tapeworm window. Italy does not ask for it on the way in, only Britain asks on the way home, so it is a vet appointment booked in the valley towards the end of the stay. Count back from the departure time of the flight home, because a flight that moves by a day can push the 24 to 120 hours out of reach;
– The mountain days. Whether a dog may ride the Skyway or sit in a hut or a lift cabin is the operator's rule, not ours, and the hotel or apartment must accept the animal too, so we ask before the quote.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and a quarantine of up to four months awaits an animal that arrives in Britain without meeting the rules.
The Courmayeur calendar: a long ski winter and a mountain summer
Courmayeur works in two seasons, a long winter and a short summer. The lifts run from late November or early December to early April, with the most reliable snow from mid-December to March, and the Skyway and the hiking take over in the warm months. The week you pick matters more than the jet you pick, because the week decides the price of the aircraft, the helicopter and the room.
Why a holiday week costs more
The flying is not the reason. The light and midsize fleet in Europe is large and Geneva and Turin are well placed in it. What tightens in a peak week is the helicopter capacity above the valley, the ramp space at Geneva and Turin, and the supply of good cars on the A5, and all three peak together. A booking made two weeks before Christmas can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Milan or Geneva and a helicopter at an awkward hour. The same booking made five to eight weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside the peak weeks Courmayeur is an easy destination, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Courmayeur price down
- Move the dates away from Christmas, New Year and the February half-term where you can. Early December, January and March are the quiet weeks of a long season;
- Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people with ordinary bags do not need a midsize, and on this sector the difference between a CJ3+ and an XLS+ from Biggin Hill is about £1,750 each way;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits at Geneva, Milan or Turin needs less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a meaningful share of the bill;
- Check the tunnel calendar before choosing Geneva. A closure that turns a ninety-minute drive into a detour can cost more than the difference between the airports.
Types of flights
Courmayeur is two destinations in one: a ski village that fills at the same time every winter, and a base for the Mont Blanc massif that works at its own pace the rest of the year. The mix of trips follows from that.
- Ski weeks, with children, ski bags and a Saturday arrival that the apartment dictates;
- Long weekends in the middle of the season, with a Friday departure from London and a Sunday evening return;
- Christmas and New Year parties, often travelling as one group and sometimes with their own cook;
- Trips on both sides of the massif: a few days in Courmayeur and a few in Chamonix, linked by the tunnel, with a Geneva or Aosta arrival depending on the dates;
- A week split with Cervinia, the glacier resort that skis to Zermatt, with a Turin arrival;
- Sant'Orso in Aosta at the end of January, a one-night visit to a very old market;
- September trips for the Tor des Géants, with supporters flying in for the finish;
- Summer weekends on the Skyway and the glaciers, often a family with a dog.
The weekend is the trip to look at closely. Leave London on a Friday morning and you are in the resort by lunch with an afternoon on the snow; return on Sunday afternoon and the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home. That waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters, and we quote it both ways so the difference is visible.

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. The Alps run on a weekly rhythm, so empty legs come in predictable waves, and it helps to know what produces them.
Where Courmayeur empty legs come from
– The weekend turnover. Aircraft bring one party out at the start of a stay and fly home empty, or come out empty to collect the next, so the weekend sectors between Geneva, Turin or Aosta and Britain are the ones most often offered;
– The Davos week. Business jets sent to Switzerland for the forum are repositioned when it ends, and a number of the legs pass through Geneva;
– The end of the season. In April operators bring their winter aircraft back from the Alps, and those legs are often priced low. In summer the pattern is thinner, and a hiking weekend is rarely served by one.
Because the corridor from the Alps to Britain is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular Saturday. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Courmayeur match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
For most parties the helicopter is a choice and not a necessity, because the A5 from Aosta is half an hour and the road from Turin is a motorway. It becomes the right answer from Geneva or Malpensa, on a snowy Saturday, and for anyone who would rather finish a morning of flying without a drive. The Aosta airport has a helicopter landing area of its own, 27 m by 27 m, where night helicopter traffic needs the airport company's authorisation, and the airfield is also the base of the mountain rescue helicopters. Air taxi operators fly from there to the ski resorts and towns of Italy, Switzerland and France on request, and in Courmayeur operators sell scenic flights over Mont Blanc of about a quarter of an hour. The transfer from Aosta takes about 15 minutes.
17 nm in a straight line, the usual transfer for a light jet arrivalabout 15 minutes
45 nm in a straight line, the flight that saves an hour on the motorwayabout 35 minutes
45 nm in a straight line over the massif, with Swiss and Italian formalities to arrangeabout 35 minutes
30 nm across the high Alps, with border formalities to arrangeabout 25 minutes
74 nm in a straight line, the flight that saves over an hour on the roadabout 50 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud or snow in the valley can ground a helicopter on a day when the jet lands at Turin without trouble, and mountain flying is done by daylight. Every transfer carries a road alternative in the same booking;
– The landing site and the permission are agreed in advance and in writing. A hotel lawn, a field or a chalet terrace is a question for the owner and for the Italian rules, and we ask it before the quote is written, not after it;
– Capacity is limited in peak weeks, and a machine for five passengers carries less luggage than a jet, so skis and boot bags often follow by road.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for four or five passengers, the wider H130 for groups, and the H135 and Bell 429 where a twin is wanted. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Courmayeur charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in general terms and not as dated or named bookings.
FRIDAY IN FEBRUARY · THE NEAREST DOOR
Four skiers and a week of bags
London City - Aosta, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 30 min · 4 pax
The departure was timed to reach the field by early afternoon, well inside the daylight hours, and the customs notice went in with the flight plan. The car waited at the terminal, and the village was half an hour away. Skis travelled in the hold, boot bags in the cabin.
TWO RESORTS · ONE TUNNEL
Courmayeur first, Chamonix after
Biggin Hill - Geneva, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 20 min · 5 pax
The party landed at Geneva and drove through the tunnel to the Italian side, then back through it for the second half of the week. The tunnel calendar was checked at the quote stage, and the return flight left from Geneva, where the business terminal handled the late departure.
SEPTEMBER · THE FINISH LINE
A runner's family of five
London Luton - Aosta, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 25 min · 5 pax
The runner was on the course for days, and the family wanted to be at the finish with a fixed time and no way to change the flight. The aircraft sat at Aosta for two nights, and the hotel in Courmayeur knew the arrival hour. A light jet suited the runway, and the quote showed the wait.
A LARGE PARTY · TURIN INSTEAD
Nine people and a chalet in Courmayeur
Farnborough - Turin, Challenger 350, about 1 h 30 min · 9 pax
A super-midsize cabin was the right aircraft for the group, and Turin spared everyone the question of landing performance on a short mountain runway with daylight hours. Two cars covered the 150 km of motorway to the village.
A DOG ON BOARD · SKI WEEKEND
Two adults and a labrador
Manchester - Aosta, Citation Latitude, about 1 h 45 min · 2 pax + dog
The aircraft went to Aosta so the whole journey stayed under one set of EU rules. The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet in the valley was booked for the tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. The apartment accepted the dog, and the Skyway was asked in advance.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY AFTERNOON HOME
A jet already going home
Aosta - Biggin Hill, Citation CJ3+ empty leg, about 1 h 30 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a group out for the week and was returning empty. The client gave a three-day window instead of one date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday afternoon departure to the south of England.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Courmayeur
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Courmayeur?
About 1 hour 30 minutes from London City and Biggin Hill in a light jet to Aosta, and around 1 hour 25 minutes from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 462 to 497 nautical miles. From Bristol, Birmingham or Manchester allow about 1 hour 35 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 2 hours 5 minutes. The drive from Aosta to Courmayeur adds about half an hour, or a helicopter about 15 minutes, and Italy is one hour ahead of Britain.
2How much does a private jet to Courmayeur cost?
The jet leg starts from about £7,100 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill to Aosta, and £7,150 from London City. A Phenom from Farnborough or Luton runs £7,400 to £7,550, a midsize cabin costs £9,200 to £10,250 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £16,250 to £16,600. Geneva is cheaper at about £6,400 from Biggin Hill but adds the Mont Blanc tunnel. The drive or helicopter is quoted with the jet, and Christmas, New Year and half-term price above these figures.
3Is there an airport in Courmayeur, and can a private jet land there?
No. Courmayeur has no airport and no jet runway. The nearest is Aosta Corrado Gex (AOT / LIMW), about 35 km away, with a 1,499 m runway, daylight hours, customs typically on three hours' notice and 48 hours' notice for commercial passenger flights (confirmed on request), which suits a light or midsize jet. Larger aircraft normally use Turin (TRN / LIMF), Geneva (GVA / LSGG) or Milan Malpensa (MXP / LIMC). The journey is finished by road or by helicopter to a landing site agreed in advance.
4Which airport is best for Courmayeur: Aosta, Turin or Geneva?
Aosta for a light jet that lands in daylight: half an hour from the village and no tunnel. Turin for a larger cabin, a late arrival or a day with weather at Aosta, about 150 km and an hour and a half by road, with a 3,300 m runway. Geneva (100 to 119 km, 1 h 30 to 1 h 45) when the trip also takes in Chamonix, though the drive depends on the Mont Blanc tunnel, which is sometimes closed for works. Milan Malpensa suits an intercontinental connection, and Sion is a helicopter option only.
5Do I need a visa, a landing permit or customs clearance for Courmayeur?
Britain is outside Schengen and Italy, France and Switzerland are inside it, so you clear passport control and customs at the first airport. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport under ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure, and a first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints. Italy asks operators from outside the EU for authorisation 3 to 6 working days ahead for commercial flights, and a Swiss permit is needed for Geneva or Sion. The operator and our team handle the paperwork.
6Can I take my dog to Courmayeur on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you. Italy asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry; a British pet passport cannot be used. Landing at Geneva adds the Swiss check, with a pet inspection at customs. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival, and cats are exempt. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork in writing before the flight.
