Private jet charter in Ankara

A jet that leaves a London airfield at seven in the morning lands on the Anatolian plateau in the early afternoon, in a capital that runs on ministries, embassies and congress calendars and not on tourism. We book the landing permission, the handler and the cabin together, because on this route each one depends on the others. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Ankara has one civil airport that counts, Esenboğa, about 30 km north-east of the centre and open round the clock, and one military field, Etimesgut, which older charter lists still show as the main airport and which is not. Turkey is outside Schengen, as Britain is, so passport control and customs are real at both ends, and the decisions that matter are the permission, the date and whether the trip stops in the capital or carries on to Cappadocia.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Ankara depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation XLS+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Ankara?

Four hours ten minutes from Biggin Hill in a Citation XLS+, four and a half hours from Glasgow in a Challenger 350, and a clock that runs two hours ahead of Britain in summer and three in winter, because Turkey stays on UTC+3 all year. At 1,580 to 1,814 nautical miles this is where short-haul ends: a midsize cabin is the sensible minimum, and the light jets that make sense on a two-hour sector are rarely quoted for it. The return leg meets the prevailing westerlies head-on and can run a little longer than the outbound. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you are on the ground at Esenboğa at about one in the afternoon local time in summer, or about two in winter. Customs, immigration and a police check are done at the aircraft and in the general aviation terminal, and the handler quotes 10 to 15 minutes for the process. The city centre is some 26 km away in a straight line, so a pre-booked car takes 30 to 50 minutes from the apron to a meeting room, depending on the traffic. Add the drive to the British airfield and the whole journey from central London to central Ankara comes to a little over six hours, which is the figure to set against a scheduled connection through Istanbul.

Midsize, large or something in between: the question that comes up on this route

– Up to six people with ordinary bags, a Citation XLS+ is the usual answer from the south of England. It has a galley, a lavatory and room to work for four hours, and the saving over a large cabin is real;

– From the Midlands, the north and Wales we start from a Latitude, and from Scotland from a Challenger 350. The extra range is not the point, since all three reach Ankara; the point is that a four-hour sit is paid for in cabin height and in a hold that takes a delegation's cases without a fight;

– Large and long-range aircraft are for a party of ten or more, for a team that needs to work in the air, or for a trip in which Ankara is the first stop of a longer programme to the Gulf or Central Asia.

Private jet flights from Ankara

Ankara is a good place to begin a loop through Anatolia and the eastern Mediterranean, because the capital sits in the middle of the country and the roads out of it are long. Cappadocia is under an hour away in a turboprop and about four hours by road, Istanbul is an hour by jet, the Mediterranean and Aegean coast is a short hop, Cyprus is about an hour and a quarter away and Athens a little over an hour and a half. Typical one-way prices:

Cappadocia and the coast: when a turboprop beats the motorway

Nevşehir, the gateway to western Cappadocia, is about 285 km south of Ankara and some four hours by road, while a Pilatus PC-12 covers the 112 nautical miles to Nevşehir Kapadokya airport in under an hour. Göreme lies about 10 km east of Nevşehir town, so the last stretch is a short car ride from the airport or a helicopter transfer, and we price both. Kayseri Erkilet is the other Cappadocia gateway, about 150 nautical miles from Ankara, and worth a quote when your hotel is on the eastern side of the valleys. Eskişehir, the university city to the west, is a different case: it is an easy day out by road or by the high-speed railway, and the aircraft stays in Ankara.

Before you accept an onward quote

– Who flies the domestic leg. A hop from Ankara to Nevşehir, Antalya or Istanbul is a flight inside Turkey, and foreign-registered aircraft face restrictions on that kind of flying; where it is allowed at all, the permit has been reported to need about two weeks. For that reason we usually price the internal sectors on a Turkish-based operator and tell you which aircraft does which leg;

– The permission at the far end. A landing at a Turkish airport other than Ankara needs its own arrangements, and the coastal airports fill with charters in summer. A quote that ignores either is a quote that will change;

– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Ankara, Cappadocia and Istanbul over four days costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of repositioning to the capital between each stop.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h

Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h
Long-haul jet (Global 5000, G550, Falcon 7X)£5,800 - 8,800/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Ankara:

Light jets, for the short Turkish sectors

Not for the flight from Britain but for what follows it: Istanbul, Antalya, Bodrum and Cyprus are an hour or so away, and a light cabin is enough for four or five people on such a hop.

Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, where most bookings land

Four hours from the south of England is the length at which a midsize cabin starts to earn its price, and the Citation XLS+ is the aircraft most often quoted from the London fields.

Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h

Super-midsize, large and long-range

For a delegation that travels as one party, for a team that works in the air, and for itineraries that continue from Ankara to the Gulf and beyond.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h
Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom £6,400/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for Cappadocia: under an hour in the air against about four hours on the road, and the saving over a jet on that distance is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a city landing, the transfer from a Cappadocia airport to a cave hotel, a valley loop. Where a helicopter may put down is agreed before the quote is issued.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. For an Ankara booking the best aircraft is often not the one nearest to London: Istanbul has the deepest Turkish charter fleet, Larnaca, Athens and the Gulf supply more, and a Turkish-based machine is sometimes the practical answer for the domestic hops while a British-based one flies the long leg. We look at the whole map before a price is sent.

Business aviation airports in Ankara

One airport carries the civil traffic, one military field confuses older lists, and the rest matter only when the trip continues to Cappadocia or Eskişehir. It helps to know what each one is before a quote arrives with its name in it.

Airport What it gives you
Ankara Esenboğa
ESB / LTAC
The answer for every civil trip, and the only civil airport of the capital. It lies in Çubuk, about 28 to 30 km north-east of the centre, at 953 m above sea level. There are two main runways of 3,750 m and 3,400 m, so no aircraft we charter is limited by length, and the airport is open round the clock without a curfew. It belongs to the State Airports Authority (DHMİ) and is run by TAV. Business flights use the general aviation terminal, which is compulsory, with private lounges and fast-track customs and immigration. There is no hangar space
Etimesgut
ANK / LTAD
A Turkish Air Force base about 15 km west of the centre, with a 2,607 m military runway and a shorter 1,509 m strip used by the Turkish Aeronautical Association for flying training. It is the airfield many older lists call the main airport of Ankara, and it is not one: it is not part of the charter market, and we plan on Esenboğa unless a state-level arrangement says otherwise
Nevşehir Kapadokya and Kayseri Erkilet
NAV / LTAZ, ASR / LTAU
Not alternatives to Ankara but the two Cappadocia gateways. Nevşehir Kapadokya has a 3,000 m concrete runway and lies about 30 km north-west of Nevşehir town, with daily scheduled flights from Istanbul; Kayseri Erkilet is classed as the larger airport and serves the city of Kayseri to the east. Both are about an hour from Ankara in a PC-12, and we compare the road time to your hotel before choosing one
Eskişehir Hasan Polatkan
AOE / LTBY
West of Ankara, about 115 nautical miles away in a straight line. It exists for Eskişehir itself, and for most visitors the road or the railway is the simpler answer. Whether a business aircraft can use it on your date is confirmed per flight and is not assumed

Four points settle most Ankara arrivals:

Choose the handler

The general aviation terminal at Esenboğa is run by TAV, and its use is mandatory for business aviation, with a fee charged per passenger. Full-service handlers work from it, among them Universal Aviation Türkiye, and flight-support firms such as LFS coordinate on the ground. Towbars and pushback vehicles are not supplied, catering must be ordered at least 24 hours ahead and cannot be stored at the airport. We ask the operator for its preference and book the handler together with the permission.

Hours, slots and parking

Esenboğa is open 24 hours with no curfews, so a late departure is possible. Slots are mandatory for every arrival and departure, requested at least 24 hours before the estimated arrival, valid for 20 minutes either side, and an arrival slot cannot be changed once the aircraft has left its origin. Parking is generally available, but there is no hangar, and busy days bring drop-and-go operations. Fuel is Jet A-1 round the clock, released in advance.

Border and passport

Turkey is outside Schengen and Britain is outside it too, so neither side offers a shortcut. A customs officer, a police officer and the handler meet the aircraft at its stand for a headcount, a passport check and an inspection on board, and the passengers then ride to the terminal for immigration. Passenger details sent in advance shorten it. An aircraft with more than 21 passengers needs a special permit to use the terminal.

Car and security

Give us the handler as well as the flight, and expect a pre-booked chauffeured car at the aircraft, since there is no metro at the airport and a taxi is a poor start to a meeting. Armed private security is not permitted airside; unarmed aircraft security can be arranged through approved providers. The hotels most often named for crews and passengers are the JW Marriott, the Sheraton and the Hilton.

business aviation

Permits, border and passport

Two Turkish bodies matter, and they are easy to confuse. SHGM, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, gives the landing permission for a flight that is not scheduled; DHMİ, the State Airports Authority, owns the airport, which TAV operates under a concession. The application to SHGM needs the aircraft registration, the airworthiness certificate and insurance that meets Turkish liability requirements. For a non-scheduled flight the notice quoted by permit agents is usually about five days, with 48 hours possible when the trip is urgent, and we work to those figures and not to the optimistic ones, since the permission is the one step that cannot be rushed.

British passport holders may visit for up to 90 days in any 180 for business or tourism without a visa, but the passport must be valid for at least 150 days after the day of arrival and have one blank page. There is no limit on bringing foreign currency or Turkish lira into the country. Turkish lira worth more than 5,000 US dollars (roughly £3,800) may not be taken out, and other currency above that sum must be declared to Turkish customs, where the source of the money may be asked about. On the way home the UK side is a General Aviation Report filed by the operator between 48 and 2 hours before departure, and any passenger who is not British or Irish and needs no visa for the UK needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation.

Government, embassy and diplomatic travel

Ankara is where the Grand National Assembly and the Presidential Palace sit and where the foreign embassies are, mostly in the newer part of the city. A share of the private traffic is therefore official, and it follows rules that are different from those for a business client. The airport itself is used to it: handlers report that traffic is heavy during diplomatic summits and that slot availability has to be confirmed at the time of the request.

What a delegation booking needs on the Ankara side

– The right channel. A diplomatic or state flight is cleared through diplomatic channels, published guidance puts the notice for such applications at 10 business days, and a diplomatic note usually supports the application. We arrange the civil side only and do not clear state flights;

– Room on the apron and in the terminal. The terminal is not designed for a very large party, and an aircraft with more than 21 passengers needs a special permit to use it. Parties of that size should tell us at the first message;

– Cars, hotels and protection. The embassy or the delegation office often supplies protocol cars, so we ask before booking more. Armed private security cannot work airside, and we agree with the handler how any escort is to be met.

From the apron to the capital

Ankara is a city of hills and government quarters rather than a harbour, and most of what a visitor wants is inside one urban area: Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Atatürk on Anıttepe hill, the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations at the foot of Ankara Castle, the Kocatepe Mosque and the Atakule Tower in Çankaya. The distances that matter run outward, to Cappadocia in the south-east and to Eskişehir in the west.

Esenboğa to the centre of Ankara
about 26 km in a straight line, over the road through the north of the city
30 to 50 minutes
Etimesgut to the centre
about 15 km west, which is why the base shows up on old lists
about 15 km
Ankara to Nevşehir by road
about 285 km south, the journey a PC-12 turns into less than an hour
about 4 hours
Ankara to Nevşehir Kapadokya by air
112 nautical miles to the airport north-west of Nevşehir
about 55 minutes
Nevşehir town to Göreme
about 10 km east, so the airport transfer is short
about 15 minutes
Ankara to Kayseri Erkilet by air
147 nautical miles, for hotels on the eastern side of the valleys
about 1 h 05 min

Flying to Ankara with a dog or a cat

Turkey is outside the EU, so the routine that works for a weekend in the EU does not apply. A British dog or cat going to Ankara needs an export health certificate and, in practice, a rabies blood test, which means planning starts months before anyone books a jet. The animal sits beside you in the cabin and no hold is involved.

private flight with animals

What Turkey asks for, according to the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and to Defra's guidance for exporters of dogs, cats and ferrets:

  • An identification microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination; the vaccine must be an authorised inactivated one, given when the animal is at least 90 days old;
  • A rabies antibody blood test: a sample taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, with a result above 0.5 IU, from an accredited laboratory. The Turkish ministry then asks for a wait of 90 days from the result before the first trip. Defra's own export notes call the test highly recommended, and because the two texts do not match we plan as if it is required;
  • Defra export health certificate 3818, signed by an Official Veterinarian, after a clinical inspection within 24 hours before export. The Turkish ministry asks for the veterinary certificate within two days of travel;
  • No more than two animals per traveller under Turkish customs rules. An accompanied animal needs no import permit, while an unaccompanied one does;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before the flight back to Britain, recorded with product, date and time. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Ankara run

– The blood test sets the calendar. A vaccination, thirty days, the sample and then ninety days before the first departure add up to about four months, so a trip with an animal that has not yet been tested is a project and not a booking. Later trips need no new wait if the vaccination is renewed inside its protection period;

– The way home is a separate set of rules. Turkey does not appear among the countries Defra lists for pet travel, so a dog or cat returning to Great Britain needs a Great Britain pet health certificate and a rabies blood test, with three months between the sample and the day of travel. There may be an exception for an animal vaccinated and tested before it left, and we check the animal's position in writing for your dates;

– The tapeworm treatment has to fall inside the 24 to 120 hours before arrival in Britain. The flight takes over four hours, so the clock runs to the landing and not to the take-off, and we book the Ankara vet together with the aircraft.

Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. Our managers confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight, and check the timetable of the blood test before a booking is taken.

The Ankara calendar: a capital with a climate

Ankara keeps its rhythm by the weather and by the national calendar. The city stands at 938 m on a dry plateau, so summers are hot and winters cold and snowy, with July highs averaging 31 degrees and January highs about 5. Official dates matter more here than festivals. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

December to February
Cold and snowy, with January lows around minus 2 degrees. Snow and ice may affect operations at Esenboğa, so a winter departure carries more margin in the schedule than a summer one
23 April
National Sovereignty and Children's Day, a national holiday that handlers list among the dates to watch in Ankara. Expect more official movements than usual
Ramadan and the bayrams
The dates move through the year with the lunar calendar. Public offices close for the two holiday periods and many Turkish families travel, so aircraft and hotels book earlier, and business meetings are hard to arrange. Ask us for the dates in your travel month
June to August
Hot and dry, with July highs around 31 degrees. The airport stands at 953 m, and summer heat can affect aircraft performance, so on hot afternoons the weight a jet can lift is lower; we schedule departures in the morning where we can
30 August
Victory Day, a national holiday and another date that handlers list among those to watch
29 October
Republic Day, a national holiday and one of the dates on the handlers' list. Plan for ceremonies and for official movements through the capital
Through the year
Summits and state visits arrive without a fixed month, and the ATO Congresium in Çankaya hosts congresses and exhibitions, with a main auditorium that seats 3,107. Ankara's calendar is driven by these, and not by a single season

Why a summit week costs more

Not the flying. The European midsize fleet is large and Ankara is within reach of it. What gets tight in a busy week is the slot at Esenboğa, space on the apron, the handler's cars and the good hotel rooms, all in the same days. A booking made a fortnight before a holiday or a summit can still be done, but it pays more and may mean an aircraft positioned from Istanbul or Larnaca. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks Ankara is straightforward to fly into, and the constraint is the landing permission, not the aircraft.

Ways to bring the Ankara price down

  • Move the dates a few days where you can. The days after a national holiday are calm, and so is the stretch between the bayrams;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Istanbul or Larnaca needs less positioning than one from Britain, and on a sector of four hours positioning is a large part of the bill;
  • File early. The landing permission is the one step that cannot be rushed, and a booking with ten days in hand leaves the operator room to look for the cheaper aircraft;
  • Take the midsize cabin unless the party or the luggage says otherwise. Six people and six bags do not need a large jet, and the money saved buys the car and the hotel.

Types of flights

Ankara produces a different mix from the resort or financial destinations we cover, because it is a seat of government, a university city and a congress centre, and almost nobody comes for the beach.

  • Government and embassy-related travel, with delegations, officials and diplomatic staff, where the permission and the protocol matter more than the aircraft;
  • Business visits to the ministries and public bodies that sit in the capital, and to the firms that deal with them, with fixed meeting times and a short stay;
  • Congress and exhibition travel to the ATO Congresium and the city's other venues, where the dates are set by the event and not by the client;
  • Overnight trips from London, which at over four hours each way are a long day and a short night but a workable pair;
  • Cappadocia combinations, with a jet to Ankara or straight to a Cappadocia gateway and a turboprop or helicopter for the rest;
  • Onward flights to Istanbul, the coast, Cyprus or the Gulf, with Ankara as the middle stop.

The same-day return from London is possible and almost never sensible. It means over eight hours in the air and an aircraft and crew waiting on the apron in between, and the meeting gets what is left. We quote it on request, but most clients choose one night in the city and a morning flight home, and the comparison is visible in the two quotes.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Ankara route they come from the pattern of official dates and onward travel, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Ankara empty legs come from

– Summit and congress weeks. Aircraft arrive with delegations and leave empty a day or two later, producing outbound legs in the days afterwards;

– Cappadocia and the coast. Charters that shuttle between Ankara, Nevşehir, Antalya and Bodrum in the busy months leave short return legs, and these are the ones most often offered;

– Positioning from Istanbul. A jet that has flown a party to Ankara often goes home empty, and the leg towards Istanbul is a short one.

Because the Ankara corridor is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag an Ankara match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Ankara a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and not the middle. The centre is a drive from the airport, but the capital has no coast or harbour for rotary flight to open up, and the places where it changes the journey are the last stretch in Cappadocia and a transfer across the city on a tight schedule.

Esenboğa to central Ankara
about 26 km in a straight line, against 30 to 50 minutes by car, and worth it only for a landing site in the city
about 10 minutes
Ankara to Göreme
roughly 120 nautical miles in a straight line, against about four hours on the road to Nevşehir
about 1 hour
A Cappadocia airport to the valley hotels
the last stretch after a jet or turboprop landing, for guests who would rather not take the road
10 to 15 minutes
A sightseeing loop of the capital
Anıtkabir, the castle, Kocatepe and Atakule, if the site and the permission allow it
about 30 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing outside an aerodrome needs an authorised site, so a hotel lawn, a terrace or a hillside near a cave hotel has its status confirmed before we quote and not after. We ask the operator and the authority for each site, and we do not assume that a place used last time is cleared this time;

– Weather sets the schedule. Snow and ice on the plateau in winter, and heat and thin air in summer, can stop or limit a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– Twin-engine machines are the sensible minimum on any route over high ground, and foreign-registered helicopters are likely to face the same limits on flying inside Turkey as foreign-registered jets do. For the busiest weekends, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for valley work, the wider H130 for scenic transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and larger types for bigger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Ankara charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

ONE NIGHT · THE LONG DAY

A morning meeting in the capital and home the next day

Biggin Hill - Ankara, Citation XLS+, about 4 h 10 min each way · 5 pax

Wheels up at seven, on the ground at Esenboğa in the early afternoon local time and in the hotel by three. The permission went in a week ahead and the handler had the passenger list for the passport check, so the headcount at the aircraft took a few minutes. The party flew home the next morning, with the crew staying in the capital. It is a long trip and a workable one, and it cost far less than two day returns.

CONGRESS WEEK · FIXED DATES

A delegation for a three-day conference

London Luton - Ankara, Citation XLS+, about 4 h 15 min · 7 pax

The dates were set by the congress and not by the client. Seven people, laptops, printed folders and a request for a car at the aircraft door. The slot was requested a week ahead, the handler had the passport check ready in the terminal, and the aircraft left Luton on time with nothing to explain.

CAPPADOCIA · TWO AIRCRAFT, ONE BOOKING

A family week that began in the capital and went on to the valleys

Birmingham - Ankara, Citation Latitude, about 4 h 15 min · 5 pax

A night in Ankara for a family occasion, then a turboprop on to Nevşehir, with a short car ride to the hotel. The jet from Britain waited in the capital and the PC-12 flew the domestic hop, so the permission for each leg went in with the same message. Done as separate bookings, the trip would have cost more and needed two sets of messages.

OFFICIAL VISIT · THE CIVIL SIDE ONLY

A small business party attached to an embassy event

Farnborough - Ankara, Citation XLS+, about 4 h 15 min · 6 pax

The embassy dealt with its own protocol arrangements, and we dealt with the aircraft, the permission, the handler and the hotel. Cars at the aircraft door came from the delegation, so we left them out of the quote. The one thing we asked early was the passenger list, because the passport check is quicker when it is sent in advance.

A DOG ON BOARD · FOUR MONTHS' NOTICE

Two adults and a spaniel for a long weekend

Southampton - Ankara, Citation XLS+, about 4 h 20 min · 2 pax + dog

The booking itself took a day. The preparation took about four months, because Turkey wants a rabies blood test and a wait after it. We arranged the tapeworm treatment in Ankara inside the 24 to 120 hour window before the flight home, booked with the aircraft, and the hotel accepted the dog.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST

A jet already going your way

Ankara - Farnborough, Citation XLS+ empty leg, about 4 h 15 min · 4 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for the week and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for an evening departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Ankara

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Ankara?

About 4 hours 10 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a Citation XLS+, and around 4 hours 15 from Luton or Farnborough, covering roughly 1,580 to 1,610 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol in a Latitude allow 4 hours 15 to 4 hours 20, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow about 4 hours 30 in a Challenger 350. Turkey keeps UTC+3 all year, two hours ahead of Britain in summer and three in winter, so a seven o'clock departure lands in the early afternoon local time.

2How much does a private jet to Ankara cost?

From about £24,950 one way in a Citation XLS+ out of Biggin Hill, £25,000 from London City and £25,300 from Luton. From the Midlands, the north and Wales a Latitude runs £32,200 to £33,050, and from Scotland allow £34,450 to £35,050. National holidays, summit days and congress weeks price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use in Ankara?

Ankara Esenboğa (ESB / LTAC) for every civil trip. It is about 30 km north-east of the centre, open round the clock without a curfew, with runways of 3,750 m and 3,400 m. Business flights must use the general aviation terminal, which is run by TAV and has customs and immigration on site, and slots are required. Etimesgut (LTAD) is a military air base and not a charter option. For Cappadocia the airports are Nevşehir Kapadokya (NAV / LTAZ) and Kayseri Erkilet (ASR / LTAU).

4Do I need a visa or a permit to fly privately to Turkey?

British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180 for business or tourism, but the passport must be valid for at least 150 days after the day of arrival and have one blank page. Turkey and Britain are both outside Schengen, so passport control and customs apply on every arrival. A flight that is not scheduled needs landing permission from the Turkish civil aviation authority, SHGM, typically about five days ahead and 48 hours when urgent, and we arrange it with the handler.

5Can I fly on from Ankara to Cappadocia, Istanbul or the coast?

Yes. Cappadocia is under an hour from Ankara in a PC-12 against about four hours by road, landing at Nevşehir or Kayseri, and a helicopter can cover the last stretch to the valleys. Istanbul is about an hour by jet and Antalya and Bodrum slightly more. Flights inside Turkey have been reported to be restricted for foreign-registered aircraft, so we usually use a Turkish-based operator for those legs. Eskişehir is best reached by road or railway.

6Can I take my dog to Ankara on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, but Turkey is outside the EU and the preparation takes months: a microchip, a rabies vaccination, a rabies antibody blood test followed by a wait, and an export health certificate signed by an Official Veterinarian. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing, and a Great Britain pet health certificate and a blood test apply as well. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
