Private jet charter in Guyana

Guyana lies on the north-east shoulder of South America, about 4,059 nautical miles from a London airfield, and a Challenger-class charter reaches it with a single hour on the ground in the Azores. The distance sets the aircraft, but the reason most guests make the trip is newer than the route: the oil found beneath the Atlantic off its coast. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. In Guyana that also means prior permission for every landing, a handler at Cheddi Jagan International, and a plan for the forty kilometres to the hotel in Georgetown, best driven in daylight.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Guyana depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Farnborough, a Challenger 605 to Georgetown Cheddi Jagan International with one technical stop in the Azores, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Guyana?

Guyana keeps UTC-4 all year, so Georgetown is four hours behind Britain in winter and five while British Summer Time runs. A Challenger 605 is published at about 3,995 nautical miles and Farnborough to Georgetown is 4,059, so the working plan is two sectors with a short stop. The times are westbound, against the usual headwind, gate to gate:

London Farnborough to Santa Maria (Azores)
1,400 nautical miles, the technical stop on the way out
about 3 h 25 min
Santa Maria to Georgetown
2,676 nautical miles over open water to Cheddi Jagan International
about 6 h 25 min
Whole trip, Challenger 605 via the Azores
4,076 nautical miles in two legs, with about an hour on the ground for fuel
about 10 h 50 min
Non-stop, Global 6000
4,059 nautical miles in one sector, with a larger cabin and a margin for the headwind
about 8 h 45 min

Landing at midday, home by breakfast

A take-off from Farnborough at 07:00 reaches Georgetown at about 12:50 local time in summer and 13:50 in winter, which keeps the transfer to the city in daylight. Leave Georgetown at 17:00, sleep on board, and the aircraft is back in Britain at about 08:25 the next morning in summer and 07:25 in winter, stop included.

Ten hours in the air plus the stop is a long duty day, so the operator may add a third crew member. The FCDO advises against travelling to and from Cheddi Jagan International late at night or before dawn, another reason to plan an afternoon arrival.

The Azores stop adds only 17 nautical miles to the direct line, so its price is time, not distance. The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures

– Range picks the aircraft. The Challenger 605 stops at Santa Maria, 1,400 nautical miles from Farnborough, and flies the remaining 2,676 to Georgetown. The Global 6000 and the G550, published at 6,000 and 6,750 nautical miles, cross in one sector with a margin of 1,941 and 2,691 over the direct 4,059. A Global 6000 from Farnborough costs about £28,650 more than the Challenger line, and that difference is the price of skipping the stop;

– Southampton, Bristol and Cardiff sit nearer the Atlantic and come out between £600 and £1,550 below the Farnborough figure on the same aircraft, and we quote them on request. Ogle, the capital's second airport, is about £400 cheaper by distance, but its runway is short, so the price here stays with Cheddi Jagan. Every figure is for the trip out.

Private jet flights within Guyana and to its neighbours

Guyana is a populated coastal strip with an interior of forest, savannah and river. Georgetown to the Kaieteur airstrip is 113 nautical miles, to Lethem on the Brazilian border 217, and to Paramaribo in Suriname 201. Scheduled flying inside the country is mostly by turboprop. These are the sectors we are asked for, with the neighbouring capitals that clients combine with a Guyana trip:

Two limits on the internal sectors

– Runway, not distance, sets the aircraft. Where the data on an interior strip is thin we plan a turboprop, and the operator confirms in writing that the strip can take it, who meets the aircraft and how the party reaches the lodge;

– Customs is cleared on arrival at Cheddi Jagan, and the internal legs are flown as domestic sectors afterwards. Paramaribo, Port of Spain and Boa Vista follow the rule of any foreign trip: a permit for every country on the route and clearance at an airport of entry.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

Business aviation airports in Guyana

Two airports matter to a foreign business jet, both at Georgetown, and the interior strips matter only to a turboprop. Runway, hours and customs count for more than the size of the terminal:

Airport Ground How it operates
Georgetown Cheddi Jagan International
GEO / SYCJ
roughly 40 km south of Georgetown, at Timehri on the Demerara river The airport for every business jet and the one we plan a long-range arrival on. Two asphalt runways: 06/24 at about 3,360 metres and 11/29 at about 1,525 metres, at about 29 metres above sea level. Listed as open round the clock with the tower on duty round the clock, an airport of entry with customs, firefighting category 8, and GPS and VOR/DME approaches. Slots are listed as not required and handling as not mandatory, but every flight is listed as needing prior permission, and we book a handler for each landing. Consorcio Aviation and Pike Aviation are the handlers listed. Jet fuel and avgas are listed.
Georgetown Eugene F. Correia International (Ogle)
OGL / SYEC
about 6 km east of the centre of Georgetown, on the coast The city's second international airport and a certified port of entry, with a concrete runway, 07/25, of about 1,280 metres. Customs is listed on site. The listed hours are 05:00 to 22:00 local time, with the tower on duty from 06:00 to 18:00. Scheduled turboprops use it, and Omni Helicopters flies Sikorsky S-92 machines from here for the offshore oil and gas work. The short runway means light jets and turboprops, and a performance check for anything bigger.
Lethem
LTM / SYLT
the town of Lethem on the Brazilian border, in the Rupununi A public airport with an asphalt runway, 07/25, listed at about 1,825 metres, at about 107 metres above sea level. The figure comes from an older listing, so we ask the operator to confirm it before a jet is planned. Trans Guyana Airways serves it from Georgetown, and customs for a foreign aircraft is cleared at Georgetown first.
Kaieteur International
KAI / SYKA
inside Kaieteur National Park, less than a kilometre from the falls An airstrip rather than an airport in the usual sense. Visitors normally arrive from Georgetown in a 12-seat Cessna, and the strip is about a 15-minute walk from the top of the falls. We do not plan jets here, because the surface and services are not published in a form we can rely on. The small strips at Annai, Orinduik, Mabaruma and Karanambo are treated the same way: a booking starts with the operator's written confirmation of surface and length.

Four points settle most Guyana trips before a quote goes out:

The permit comes first

Cheddi Jagan is listed with prior permission required for all flights. The published guidance, an older text that we check with the authority for every booking, says that a charter landing to take on or set down passengers applies to the Director General of the civil aviation authority, the GCAA, not less than 48 hours ahead, and that a private flight has its flight plan with the authorities at least two hours before arrival. We plan on a longer lead. The authority's landing permission form covers non-scheduled, charter and private flights, and asks for the air operator certificate, insurance, the airworthiness and registration certificates, and the crew licences and medicals.

Hours

Cheddi Jagan is listed as open round the clock, so a night arrival from a long crossing is possible. Ogle is a daytime airport, and we confirm its opening for the date.

Handling and fuel

Handling is listed as not mandatory, which describes the rules and does not replace a plan: we book a handler to meet the aircraft, arrange the officers, the fuel and the transfer. Jet fuel is listed at both airports, and the uplift for the way home is confirmed before the aircraft leaves Britain.

The last forty kilometres

The FCDO says that gangs have followed cars from Cheddi Jagan International and advises against travelling to or from the airport late at night and before dawn. The handler arranges a daylight transfer, and the hotel is told the real arrival time.

Arriving from Britain: passports, customs and what to carry

Guyana is outside the European Union and the Schengen area, and a British citizen needs no visa for a visit. Immigration and customs are cleared at an airport of entry, which for a private jet means Cheddi Jagan or Ogle.

Passports
The passport must be valid for at least six months after the day of arrival, and a document reported lost or stolen is refused
every passenger, children included
Length of stay
A visit is normally allowed for 30 days, and one-month extensions can be requested from the immigration service. Overstaying can lead to a fine, deportation at your own cost and a prison sentence of up to a year
check the stamp
Customs
The rules on goods entering and leaving are strict. Anything that may be prohibited, taxed or dutiable has to be declared, and the handler brings the form to the aircraft
declared at the desk
Health
A yellow fever certificate is required of travellers who arrive from a country on the transmission-risk list, which matters if the jet positions through one. Some onward destinations may ask the same of a traveller leaving Guyana. The NHS TravelHealthPro guide for Guyana covers vaccines, malaria and dengue
check before you fly

The border region and the way home

The FCDO describes the security situation along Guyana's border with Venezuela as tense and asks travellers to check with the local authorities before going near it, since these are remote areas. We plan interior trips with that advice in hand and read the FCDO travel advice for Guyana again before the day of the flight.

Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, and most other nationalities do.

Which airport for which part of Guyana

The arrival airport follows from one address: the office in Georgetown, the lodge in the Rupununi, the falls in the interior. These are the usual pairings:

Georgetown and the coast
The capital stands at the mouth of the Demerara river, with about 126,000 inhabitants. The CARICOM Secretariat, Parliament and the ministries are here
Cheddi Jagan, or Ogle for a light jet
Energy and offshore work
The oil fields lie in the Atlantic, about 200 kilometres off the coast at the first discovery. The offshore crews fly from Ogle by helicopter, and the executives who come to meet them arrive by jet at Cheddi Jagan
Cheddi Jagan, then Ogle
Kaieteur Falls
The Potaro river drops 226 metres in a single leap, reached by a short turboprop flight and a walk from the national park airstrip
Georgetown, then a turboprop
The Rupununi
Open savannah in the south-west, on the Brazilian border, with Lethem as its town and lodges around Annai and Karanambo. The Rupununi Rodeo is held here at Easter
Lethem or Annai, after Georgetown
The north-west
Mabaruma, in the Barima-Waini region, is the base for the forest and river country, and the FCDO border advice applies
Mabaruma, with local advice

Georgetown, the oil coast and the interior: what our clients go for

Oil changed the country. ExxonMobil operates the Stabroek block with Chevron and CNOOC as partners, holding 45, 30 and 25 percent. The first discovery was made about 200 kilometres off the coast, in water 1,742 metres deep, and production has passed 900,000 barrels a day, according to operator figures. The Local Content Act obliges contractors to buy from Guyanese suppliers, so an engineering firm, a law firm or a bank from Britain often has reason to be in Georgetown for a few days. Most of our trips are short: a boardroom day or two, the aircraft held at Cheddi Jagan or sent home.

Stabroek Market, in its present iron building of 1881, has a clock tower that dominates the skyline, City Hall is a neo-Gothic building finished in 1889, and St George's Cathedral is a tall church built of painted timber. The Botanical Gardens have a manatee pond and enclosures for jaguars and other cats. The FCDO lists Stabroek Market and the Botanical Gardens among the places where visitors have been assaulted, so guests go with a guide or a driver and carry little of value.

Kaieteur is the other reason to come. The Potaro river falls 226 metres in one drop, and 251 metres counting the cascades below, which makes it about four and a half times the height of Niagara and twice that of Victoria Falls. Most visitors reach it by air from Georgetown. A private jet is not the aircraft for the last leg, but it lets the outing fit into one day after a night in the capital.

The Rupununi is a different Guyana: open savannah north of the Rupununi river, the Kanuku Mountains to the south, and wildlife lodges. In the Iwokrama protected area visitors see tapirs, caimans, anacondas, capybaras and, with luck, jaguars. On the coast, Shell Beach is one of the main nesting grounds of the leatherback turtle. The Essequibo, at 1,010 kilometres, is the longest river in the country.

The Guyanese year: two wet seasons, two dry ones

Georgetown is hot all year, with a mean daily maximum of about 31 degrees at the airport and rain in every month. The coast has two rainy and two dry seasons, and the interior has one of each:

May to mid-August
the main rainy season on the coast and the wet season in the interior. Much of the Rupununi floods and the lodges there are harder to reach
wet season
Mid-August to early November
a short dry season on the coast; in the interior the dry weather lasts to the end of April
dry spell
Late November to January
the short rainy season on the coast, while the interior stays dry
second wet spell
February to April
the long dry season on the coast. The drier months also ease the flight schedules to the falls
best weather

Wildlife and the weather

The interior is best in the dry season, when animals gather near rivers and ponds. For the Rupununi the usual advice is September to April, with the fewest biting insects from November or December onward. Kaieteur is a flight in a small turboprop, so we leave a spare day in the plan for the weather.

The Guyanese calendar: Mashramani, the energy conference and the Easter rodeo

The dated events are mostly national holidays and one very busy trade fair, and all of them pull on the same two airports:

February
The Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo at the Marriott hotel in Georgetown. The organisers have listed more than 13,000 attendees and over 200 exhibitors, which is why rooms, cars and handling slots tighten in the weeks around it
23 February
Republic Day and Mashramani, a street carnival with costume bands, floats, steel bands and calypso and chutney-soca contests. The parade runs through Georgetown to the National Park
March
Phagwah, the Hindu spring festival of Holi, which is a public holiday
Easter weekend
The Rupununi Rodeo in Lethem, an annual event over two days
1 August
Emancipation Day, one of the main days of the Afro-Guyanese calendar, in the middle of the main rainy season
October or November
Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights, another public holiday

Why event weeks need early booking

Mashramani and the energy conference both fall in the dry months, when the airport and the hotels are at their fullest. Because every flight into Cheddi Jagan needs prior permission, a request for those weeks should go to the operator as soon as the dates are fixed.

Flying to Guyana with a dog or a cat

A dog or a cat can enter Guyana with its owner if the permit is in place, and the order of paperwork matters more than the flight. The Ministry of Agriculture says that the Guyana Livestock Development Authority prepares the import permit, which takes about three working days, and that importers of dogs and cats submit health and vaccination records. Published guides add a microchip and a rabies vaccination given between 30 days and 12 months before arrival, and say a quarantine of up to 90 days can be set when the permit is issued, so we ask the authority what applies to an animal coming from Britain. For a private flight we confirm the entry airport, the inspection on arrival and the paperwork in writing.

The one fact to read before you book

The permit comes first and is not issued on the day. The UK export guidance for dogs and cats is an older text, so we check it with the authority for every booking. It lists an export health certificate signed by an official vet, an examination shortly before export and further vaccinations for dogs. It names Cheddi Jagan International as the airport for animals, with notice to the port veterinary officer at least 24 hours before arrival.

The way home is the harder half. Guyana is not a listed country, so the animal returns on a Great Britain pet health certificate after a rabies blood test taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, at an approved laboratory, with a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml. The animal may not travel until three months after the sample date. A dog also needs tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 hours and 5 days before landing.

  • A microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, and at least 21 full days between the vaccination and the flight home;
  • A Great Britain pet health certificate for the return, with the blood sample date recorded on it;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, and an animal arriving more than five days before or after its owner falls under separate rules.

The three-month count is the point: a weekend in Georgetown with a pet works only if the blood sample was taken at least three months before the return, so we build the timetable backwards from the landing in Britain. If the rules are not met, the pet can be placed in quarantine for up to four months.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Guyana run there are few, because few aircraft make the crossing, but each is a long sector.

Where Guyana empty legs come from

– A long-range jet that flew a party out to Georgetown and returns to Britain without passengers, which is the commonest leg and the one most often offered;

– A jet repositioning to Georgetown for a booking that starts there, which turns the outbound crossing into a bargain for anyone who can leave on the operator's date;

A client who can offer a window of several weeks has a far better chance of a match, though the operator owns the date. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Guyana empty legs follows:

Route Aircraft Capacity Whole aircraft
Guyana (Georgetown GEO) - UK (London Farnborough) Challenger 605 12 seats £34,400
Guyana (Georgetown GEO) - UK (Birmingham) Challenger 605 12 seats £34,450
UK (London Biggin Hill) - Guyana (Georgetown GEO) Challenger 605 12 seats £34,600
UK (London Luton) - Guyana (Georgetown GEO) Challenger 605 12 seats £34,650
UK (London Stansted) - Guyana (Georgetown GEO) Challenger 605 12 seats £34,800
UK (London Gatwick) - Guyana (Georgetown GEO) Global 6000 13 seats £46,600

How to read those figures

– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Challenger 605 home from Georgetown to Farnborough with twelve seats comes to about £2,850 a head;

– Set each line beside the same sector in the first table. The saving is large, and a month of flexibility is the minimum worth offering on this route.

Helicopter charter

Helicopter flying in Guyana is built around the oil industry. Omni Helicopters operates Sikorsky S-92 machines from Ogle for the offshore work, and those machines work for the oil companies, so a passenger helicopter is a separate booking. We arrange it case by case and publish no standing price list. The transfers clients ask about:

Ogle to the Kaieteur Falls airstrip
in the interior, a straight-line distance of 133 nautical miles
about 1 h 15 min

The times are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots, and the operator confirms the type, the route and the landing site for your date. A private landing site in a protected area is never assumed.

Guyanese charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.

GEORGETOWN · THE OIL BRIEFING

Three executives and two days of meetings

Farnborough - Georgetown, Challenger 605 via the Azores, about 10 h 50 min · 3 pax

Wheels up at seven, an hour at Santa Maria, and on the ramp at Cheddi Jagan at midday on the local clock. The aircraft waited for the two days.

KAIETEUR · THE FALLS

Four guests and a day at the top of the drop

Georgetown - Kaieteur, Pilatus PC-12 NGX, about 55 min each way · 4 pax

After a night in Georgetown the party took a turboprop to the national park, walked to the falls, and was back for dinner.

LETHEM · THE RODEO

A family of six and Easter in the savannah

Georgetown - Lethem, Citation CJ4 Gen2, about 1 h each way · 6 pax

A light jet took the family to Lethem for the rodeo weekend after customs at Cheddi Jagan.

PARAMARIBO · THE NEIGHBOUR

Two directors and a meeting in Suriname

Georgetown - Paramaribo, Citation XLS+, about 1 h each way · 2 pax

The party cleared customs at Georgetown and flew on to Paramaribo the next morning, with both permits requested together.

NON-STOP · THE LARGER PARTY

Eight guests and one sector from Gatwick

London Gatwick - Georgetown, Global 6000, about 8 h 45 min · 8 pax

The client wanted no stop and a bigger cabin, so the operator proposed a Global 6000. The quote was higher than the Challenger line, and the party chose the saving in time.

EMPTY LEG · AFTER THE CONFERENCE

A flexible return from Georgetown

Georgetown - London Farnborough, Challenger 605 empty leg, about 10 h 25 min · 4 pax

The client gave us a window of ten days instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £34,400, well under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Guyana

1How long does it take to fly to Guyana by private jet?

About 10 hours 50 minutes from London Farnborough to Georgetown on a Challenger 605 with one stop in the Azores, or about 8 hours 45 minutes non-stop on a Global 6000. Guyana is four or five hours behind Britain, depending on the season.

2How much does a private jet to Guyana cost?

From about £81,850 one way from Farnborough to Georgetown on a Challenger 605 with a stop in the Azores. A non-stop Global 6000 from Farnborough is about £110,500. Onward legs are far lower, with Georgetown to Paramaribo from £6,800 on a Citation XLS+.

3Which airport should a private jet use in Guyana?

Cheddi Jagan International at Georgetown for almost every trip: it is listed as open round the clock, with customs and a runway of about 3,360 metres. Ogle is closer to the city but has a runway of about 1,280 metres and shorter hours, so it suits light jets and turboprops.

4Can a private jet fly non-stop from London to Guyana?

Yes, on an ultra-long-range jet. Farnborough to Georgetown is about 4,059 nautical miles, which a Global 6000 or a Gulfstream G550 flies in one sector. A Challenger 605 stops in the Azores.

5What paperwork does a private flight to Guyana need?

British citizens need no visa for a visit, and the passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival. Cheddi Jagan is listed as needing prior permission for all flights, so the operator requests landing permission well ahead, and we plan on more than the listed minimum of 48 hours.

6Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Guyana?

Yes, with an import permit from the Guyana Livestock Development Authority and health and vaccination records. The way home needs a Great Britain pet health certificate, a rabies blood test and a wait of three months from the sample date, and a dog needs tapeworm treatment between 24 hours and 5 days before landing.
