Private jet charter in Nancy
A jet from London is over the Lorraine plateau in a little more than an hour, and the choice that shapes the trip is the airport, because the field closest to Place Stanislas is closed to flights from Britain. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that fact. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, which stands between the two cities, has a 3,050 m runway, an instrument approach and customs on request. Nancy-Essey takes light aircraft, but only from inside Schengen. Luxembourg is the full-service alternative, an hour and a half down the A31. What remains is the calendar, because the weekend when Saint Nicholas receives the keys of the city fills the old town long before it fills the aircraft.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Nancy depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Nancy?
A little over an hour from the London fields in a light jet, an hour and a quarter from Birmingham, an hour and 35 minutes from Edinburgh, and a clock that is one hour ahead of Britain on arrival, because France keeps Central European time. Nancy has an airfield of its own at Essey, but it does not accept arrivals from outside Schengen, so we price the sector to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, the airport with an instrument approach and a customs office that a flight from Britain can use, and add a car for the last half hour. From the British fields we use it is 289 to 591 nautical miles, a short hop for a light jet from the south of England and a super-midsize from Scotland. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the road from the apron
Take off from Biggin Hill at eight and the wheels touch at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine a little after ten local time, with France an hour ahead of Britain. The airport lies about 34 km from Nancy in a straight line, about 17 km from Metz, and the road to the centre of Nancy takes about half an hour, so a client who walked out of a London office at half past six is standing in Place Stanislas a little after eleven. Nancy-Essey would save that half hour, since it is only about four kilometres from the centre, and the hop from Metz-Nancy-Lorraine to it is 18 nautical miles, but a flight from Britain cannot land there, and the next sections explain what Essey is for.
Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route
– Up to four people with ordinary bags, take a light jet. A Citation CJ3+ or a Phenom does the sector in just over an hour, the 3,050 m runway at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine is far longer than either needs, and the same class is the one we would send to Nancy-Essey, with its 1,600 m runway, on a leg inside Schengen. We check the weight and performance of the exact type before the quote goes out;
– Five to nine people, or four with the luggage of a December weekend, we quote a midsize jet into Metz-Nancy-Lorraine or Luxembourg alongside the light jet. Crystal from the Daum workshops, boxes of macarons and bergamot sweets and bottles of mirabelle spirit all go home in the hold, and a midsize cabin keeps them out of the seats;
– A heavy jet belongs to a large party, or to a flight that carries on to the Gulf. Luxembourg, with a runway of 4,002 m and handling coordinated by its Business Aviation Centre, is where we would send it. Metz-Nancy-Lorraine has the runway, but no hangar for visiting aircraft and a general aviation apron that needs permission 48 hours ahead.

Prices for the private jet flights to Nancy
Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them priced to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, with the car to Nancy quoted alongside. The first weekend of December, when the Saint-Nicolas parade and the Christmas markets overlap, can price above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains why.

The flight itself costs the same to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine and to Luxembourg, because both sectors are short enough to fall under the minimum charge for a light jet, and Strasbourg adds £500. Luxembourg is the shorter flight from London but the longer drive to Nancy, by about an hour, so on a light jet the saving is only in the minutes in the air. The choice is made on the road time, the facilities and the hour of the day, and the airports section below sets out which one fits which trip.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Private jet flights from Nancy
Nancy lies on the line between Paris and Strasbourg, with Luxembourg to the north and Switzerland a short flight to the south, so a departure from it goes in every direction at moderate range. Onward from Nancy: when the aircraft wins and when the train does
The railway answers most short questions here. The fast train to Paris takes about an hour and a half, to Strasbourg about an hour and a quarter, to Luxembourg about an hour and a half and to Metz a little over half an hour, and a jet from Nancy-Essey to Le Bourget, 157 nautical miles away, saves time only for a party whose meeting is at the airport or who wants to leave at its own hour. The aircraft earns its place on the legs the railway does not reach: Geneva and Zurich, 153 and 124 nautical miles from Nancy-Essey, the Riviera at 375 from Luxembourg, and the Gulf. Geneva and Zurich are outside the European Union, so customs matters in both directions: for a flight arriving at Essey from Switzerland the AIP asks for 24 hours' notice to the customs office in Metz, and the destination is given to us when the leg is booked.
Before you accept an onward quote from Nancy
– Which airport you leave from. Nancy-Essey has no instrument landing system and its air traffic information service keeps set hours, so a departure in the evening, or in low cloud, moves to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine. We say so in the quote;
– Whether the legs are one booking. Essey to Zurich, on to Munich and back to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine over a long weekend costs noticeably less arranged as one trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of repositioning between stops.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Nancy:
Light jets, the class that fits Essey as well
On a sector of just over an hour a light jet is comfortable for a small party with ordinary luggage. It is also the only class we would put on the 1,600 m runway at Nancy-Essey, for a hop inside Schengen, while the flight from Britain lands at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine.
Midsize, for the December luggage and a full family
Lorraine sends people home with more than they brought: crystal, sweets, spirits and, in winter, the children's presents from the markets. A midsize jet gives the hold and the range, and lands at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine or Luxembourg.
Super-midsize and large
For a group travelling as one party, a delegation that wants to work in the air, or a trip that carries on from Lorraine to the Gulf. Runway length is no issue at Luxembourg (4,002 m) or Metz-Nancy-Lorraine (3,050 m).
Turboprops
The right aircraft for the hops from Nancy to Paris, Strasbourg and the Swiss airfields, and a type that sits easily on a short runway such as Essey. The Pilatus PC-12 is one of the commonest business types in Europe.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: from the airport to the edge of the old town, or from Nancy to the lakes and ridges of the Vosges. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Paris, Luxembourg and Strasbourg all have a steady flow of light and midsize jets, so there is often an aircraft within an hour of Lorraine, and outside the December weekends that is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports for Nancy
Four airports matter for a Nancy trip, and they do different jobs. One takes the flight from Britain, one is the small field at the edge of the city that cannot, one is the large business airport across the Luxembourg border and one is the Alsace alternative. Which is right depends on the size of the aircraft, the hour of the day and where the party sleeps.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Metz-Nancy-Lorraine ETZ / LFJL |
The gateway for almost every Nancy trip. The airport stands at Goin between the two cities, about 17 km from Metz and about 34 km from Nancy in a straight line, and the road to the centre of Nancy takes about half an hour. It has one bituminous runway, 04/22, of 3,050 m by 45 m, with an instrument landing system on runway 22, and it is open to private traffic around its scheduled flights. Customs and police are on request with 24 hours' notice, the general aviation apron needs the operator's permission 48 hours ahead, and there is no hangar for visiting aircraft and no hotel on site. There is no private jet terminal, so handling is arranged through the airport operator, and we include it in the quote. Choose it for any flight from Britain |
| Nancy-Essey ENC / LFSN |
The airfield nearest to Place Stanislas, about four kilometres east of the centre, run as a business and general aviation field with a pilot school. Paved runway 03/21 of 1,600 m by 40 m with no instrument landing system, and an unpaved strip beside it reserved for helicopters. The air traffic information service keeps set hours, and no handling agent is listed. The entry that decides everything for a British client is the customs line in the AIP: flights from inside Schengen and the European Union are authorised, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland are allowed on 24 hours' notice to the customs office in Metz, and flights from outside Schengen or the European Union are prohibited. A jet from London is not sent here. It suits a light aircraft already inside Schengen, which is why we use it for onward legs and for the helicopter, and not for the arrival |
| Luxembourg LUX / ELLX |
Not Nancy's airport, but the one a broker looks at first when the aircraft is large or the arrival is late in the day. It stands about 120 km from Nancy and the A31 takes about an hour and a half. Runway 06/24 is 4,002 m by 45 m, with category II and III approaches on runway 24, and customs and immigration work round the clock. Handling is coordinated by the Business Aviation Centre and is compulsory for most general aviation flights. The airport is closed to traffic from 23:00 to 06:00 local time, with exceptions for government, rescue, humanitarian, hospital, emergency and delayed scheduled flights, and there is no hangar space for visiting aircraft. Choose it for a midsize or heavy jet, for a trip that combines Luxembourg with Nancy, or when Metz-Nancy-Lorraine is not open at the hour you need |
| Strasbourg-Entzheim SXB / LFST |
The Alsace alternative, about ten kilometres from the centre of Strasbourg and close to two hours from Nancy by road. One bituminous runway, 05/23, of 2,400 m by 45 m, with an instrument landing system at both ends and category III on runway 23. Air traffic service is round the clock, customs and police work from 06:00 to 23:00 local time, and the general aviation terminal from 06:00 to 22:00. Strasbourg Handling is compulsory for international general aviation flights. For most aircraft take-offs are barred from 23:30 to 06:00 and landings from 00:00 to 06:00 local time. Choose it when the programme includes Strasbourg or Alsace, or when the Lorraine airports are closed; otherwise it is a long way to drive |
Four things to settle before a Nancy landing:
Which airport, and for which leg
A flight from Britain lands at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, or at Luxembourg when the aircraft is large or the hour is late. Nancy-Essey is for a light jet or a helicopter on a leg that stays inside Schengen, in daylight and within its staffed hours. We name the airport and the handler in the quote, and we do not put a flight from London on a runway where customs forbids it.
Hours, in local time
Local time in Nancy is UTC+1 in winter and UTC+2 in summer. The French AIP prints UTC for the winter and takes one hour off in summer, so on the clock in Nancy the hours on this page are the same all year. Metz-Nancy-Lorraine runs its air traffic service from 05:45 to 22:00 on weekdays, to 20:00 on Saturdays and from 09:00 to 22:00 on Sundays. Nancy-Essey is staffed from 09:00 and closes at 19:00. Strasbourg customs works from 06:00 to 23:00, and Luxembourg is closed to most traffic from 23:00 to 06:00.
Border, customs and passport
Britain is outside Schengen and France is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport under ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system, which is free.
Car and the road out
Give us the airport as well as the flight. Metz-Nancy-Lorraine has no private jet terminal, so the car is arranged against the aircraft stand and not against a lounge door, and we agree the meeting point with the operator before landing. Shuttle buses run from the airport to the stations of Metz and Nancy, and for a party with luggage a private car is the sensible choice.

Hours, customs and the two airfields near Nancy
Metz-Nancy-Lorraine is a regional airport that exists for its scheduled flights, and a private jet fits in around them. The French aeronautical publication gives the hours of its air traffic service in UTC: 04:45 to 21:00 on weekdays, 04:45 to 19:00 on Saturdays and 08:00 to 21:00 on Sundays in winter, with one hour taken off in summer. On the clock in Nancy that is 05:45 to 22:00 from Monday to Friday, 05:45 to 20:00 on Saturdays and 09:00 to 22:00 on Sundays all year, and the operator can arrange other hours on 24 hours' notice. Customs and police are available on request with the same notice, and fuel is listed for scheduled flights, with a tender on call outside them. The rescue and fire cover published for other traffic is built around weekday office hours, with extensions on 72 hours' notice. None of this is a problem when it is known at the quote stage, and all of it is a problem when it is learned on the day, which is why the hour of the return flight is agreed before the aircraft is released.
Nancy-Essey works on a smaller scale. The air traffic information service is staffed, by the AIP, on weekdays from 08:00 to 11:45 and from 12:15 to 18:00 UTC in winter, which on the clock in Nancy is 09:00 to 12:45 and 13:15 to 19:00, and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 19:00. Outside those hours the airfield opens only by arrangement, with 72 hours' notice for anything but a medical flight. Customs is the rule that matters: intra-Schengen and EU flights are authorised, flights from Norway, Switzerland and Iceland are allowed on 24 hours' notice to the customs office in Metz, and flights from outside Schengen or the EU are prohibited, which covers a flight from Britain. The apron has two stands, 3N and 3S, reserved for business and commercial aircraft with a wingspan over 13 m and up to 28.5 m, a hangar is possible by request to the operator, and the unpaved strip beside the runway is for helicopters, used only with the authorisation of the information service and within its hours.
Border, customs and the Luxembourg option
Britain is outside Schengen, France and Luxembourg are inside it, and the airport where the aircraft first lands in the Schengen area is where the party clears passport control and customs. At Luxembourg that service works round the clock and the handling is coordinated by the Business Aviation Centre. At Metz-Nancy-Lorraine it is a staffed service on request, so the arrival time is given to the operator in advance and a late arrival is planned in, not improvised. The drive from Luxembourg to Nancy crosses the frontier on the A31, and the passports stay in hand luggage because a Schengen country may introduce checks at its land borders. Luxembourg is in the European Union, so there is no customs frontier between the two on the road, and goods bought in Lorraine and carried home are a matter for British customs allowances.
For the return, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure. We prepare it with the flight plan, and we confirm in writing which airport and which authority cover the sector you will use, so the party knows before the flight where it will be checked in each direction.

From the apron to Place Stanislas
Nancy is a city of about 104,000 people at the centre of an urban area of about half a million, the former capital of the Dukes of Lorraine, and a university city, where the University of Lorraine counts more than 47,000 students. It lies some 320 km east of Paris. The old town is small enough to cross on foot, and what a private client does with the rest of the day depends on the road. The distances below are by road from the city unless they say otherwise.

A day in Nancy, and the roads out of it
Everything starts with Place Stanislas. It is a square of 125 by 106 m, paved in light stone, built in the middle of the eighteenth century by the architect Emmanuel Héré for Stanislas Leszczynski, the exiled king of Poland who received the duchy of Lorraine and was the father-in-law of Louis XV. The town hall closes the south side, the opera and the Grand Hôtel the east, the Musée des Beaux-Arts the west, and the corners are closed by the gilded wrought-iron gates of Jean Lamour, which give Nancy its nickname of the city with the golden gates. Fountains of Neptune and Amphitrite by Barthélémy Guibal stand in the northern corners. The Arc Héré leads on to the Place de la Carrière, a long avenue between two rows of trees, named for the equestrian games once held there, which ends at a colonnaded hemicycle in front of the government palace. Behind it lies the Place d'Alliance, a small, quiet square of linden trees with a fountain by Paul-Louis Cyfflé that celebrates the alliance of France and Austria. The three squares are a UNESCO World Heritage site together, and they take an hour to see properly.
The second reason to come is Art Nouveau. Around the turn of the twentieth century a group of Nancy artists and craftsmen, the École de Nancy, led by Émile Gallé and Victor Prouvé, with Louis Majorelle, the Daum glassworks and Jacques Gruber among its names, made the city one of the capitals of the style. The Musée de l'École de Nancy occupies the former house of the patron Eugène Corbin, at 36-38 rue du Sergent Blandan, and holds more than 400 pieces of Gallé glass, the Masson dining room by Eugène Vallin with its painted ceiling by Prouvé and lighting by Daum, and a garden with a circular aquarium pavilion. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday. The Villa Majorelle was designed by the young architect Henri Sauvage as the house and studio of Louis Majorelle, with ceramics by Alexandre Bigot and stained glass by Gruber. The city owns it and opens it on set days for guided visits by reservation, which is why we book the villa first and the flight second. The Brasserie Excelsior, with chandeliers by Majorelle and Daum, furniture by Majorelle and windows by Gruber, is the place to have lunch afterwards.
The Musée des Beaux-Arts stands on Place Stanislas itself and is the one museum we would not skip when the weather is bad. Its rooms hold Perugino, Rubens, Georges de La Tour, Delacroix, Manet, Modigliani and Picasso, and a gallery on the lower level is devoted to Daum glass, so the afternoon can move from the eighteenth century to the Art Nouveau without leaving the square. The Parc de la Pépinière, of 21.9 hectares, began as a nursery of trees planted for the roads of Lorraine, and it keeps the chequerboard of avenues from that time, with an English-style garden, a rose garden, a zoo and a statue of Claude Lorrain by Rodin. The Musée Lorrain, in the old palace of the Dukes, is the third choice, for anyone who wants the local history behind it.
Outside the city the programme splits four ways. Saint-Nicolas-de-Port, 12 km to the south-east, has a flamboyant Gothic basilica built between the end of the fifteenth century and the middle of the sixteenth, with two towers 85 m high, and a relic of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of Lorraine. Metz, 57 km to the north, has a Gothic cathedral with 6,496 square metres of stained glass that includes windows by Marc Chagall, and the Centre Pompidou-Metz, a building by Shigeru Ban under a roof of hexagonal timber, near the station. Luxembourg City is a train ride of about an hour and a half, and its old quarters and fortifications are another UNESCO site. The Vosges are the fourth direction: Gérardmer, 106 km away, has the largest natural lake in the Vosges at 660 m, a marked walk of 6 km around it, the La Mauselaine ski area with 21 runs and about 100 km of marked cross-country trails. Champagne is further, about two and a half hours by road to Reims, which makes it a long lunch and a night there, not an afternoon.
Lorraine on the plate, and the tables worth booking
Nancy eats well and sweet. The macaron of Nancy is the Sœur Macaron, an almond biscuit with nothing on it. The Maison des Sœurs Macarons sells it on the Rue Gambetta, where the shop has stood since the middle of the nineteenth century, and keeps the recipe to itself. Bergamotes de Nancy are small square sweets of sugar flavoured with bergamot essence; they carry a protected geographical indication, and three Nancy confectioners make them. Quiche Lorraine in its classic form is eggs, cream and bacon baked in a pastry case, with no cheese, a dish that goes back to the sixteenth century. Mirabelle plums are the fruit of the region: the Lorraine mirabelle carries its own protected geographical indication, the harvest begins around the middle of August, and the Fête de la Mirabelle in Metz runs for about ten days to the end of the month. What is not made into tarts goes into jam and spirit, and a bottle of mirabelle eau-de-vie is the usual thing to bring home.
For a morning with a basket, the Marché Central stands beside the Rue Saint-Dizier, in a mid-nineteenth-century U-shaped building with a glass-roofed central hall and about 65 traders, and its east entrance opens on the street under a large clock. The restaurants in the south aisle serve lunch only, and the market is closed on Monday and on Sunday afternoon. For a bed, the Grand Hôtel de la Reine stands on Place Stanislas itself, in a building in the Louis XV style. The Michelin guide lists La Maison dans le Parc in Nancy with a star, and the Château d'Adoménil at Lunéville as well, but stars move between editions, so we check the listing when you ask us to book, and we ask for tables early for the first weekend of December.
Flying to Nancy with a dog or a cat
For a pet the paperwork is the part of a Nancy trip that needs planning, and the flight is the easy bit: the animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold, and on a sector of just over an hour most simply sleep. The date on the health certificate is the detail that goes wrong, because the certificate for entry to the EU is valid for only ten days.

France applies the EU rules to a pet that arrives from Britain. What the French authorities ask:
- An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before entry;
- An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
- No more than five animals per traveller. The animal is declared and presented to customs on arrival, and we confirm in writing the airport and the entry point for the animal;
- Dogs of the attack type that France places in category 1, without a recognised pedigree, cannot be imported. Category 2 dogs (Staffordshire and American Staffordshire terriers and Tosa types) need a pedigree from the national kennel club, and must be muzzled and on a lead in public places;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Nancy run
– The entry point. Metz-Nancy-Lorraine clears on request, so the animal is presented to customs there at the time we have agreed with the operator. If the flight lands at Luxembourg instead, the animal enters the European Union there, the paperwork is the same, and we confirm the new entry point in writing;
– The certificate and the December weekend. A certificate is valid for ten days for entry, so a weekend trip fits easily, but the return needs a vet in Nancy for the tapeworm treatment inside the 24 to 120 hour window, and on the first weekend of December the appointment is worth booking early;
– Crowds, restaurants and hotels. The parade and the markets draw big crowds, and dog rules differ between restaurants and hotels, so we ask the hotel before the animal is booked and tell you where a quiet corner is.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. The certificate is valid for the return as stated on it, and an animal that does not meet the British rules can be placed in quarantine for up to four months. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.
The Nancy calendar: jazz, mirabelles and the weekend of Saint Nicholas
Nancy has a handful of weeks that change what a trip costs and where you can sleep, and they are different in kind: the mirabelle harvest at the end of the summer, ten days of jazz in October, and then the Christmas markets and the feast of Saint Nicholas that make the winter. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why the first weekend of December costs more
Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Lorraine is well placed in it. What gets tight is the city: the hotels around Place Stanislas, the tables, the cars, and at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine the general aviation apron, which needs the operator's permission 48 hours ahead. A booking made a fortnight before the parade can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Luxembourg or Paris, and that costs more. The same booking made six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks Nancy is easy to fly into, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Nancy price down
- Move the dates by a few days. The Friday before the parade and the Monday after it are far calmer than the Saturday itself, for hotels and for aircraft;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits at Luxembourg, Strasbourg or Paris takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector this short positioning is a meaningful part of the bill;
- Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people and four bags do not need a midsize, and the money saved pays for the car and the lunch at the Excelsior.
Types of flights
Nancy produces a different mix from the Alpine resorts or the Riviera, because it is a destination for architecture and the table, with business in the cities to the north and east of it.
- Art Nouveau and museum weekends, built around the École de Nancy, the Villa Majorelle and the Musée des Beaux-Arts;
- Saint-Nicolas and Christmas market weekends, small parties who arrive on the Friday and leave on the Sunday, often with a dog;
- Food and drink trips, with the covered market, the macarons and bergamot sweets, and mirabelle in the season;
- Business visits to Nancy, Metz and Luxembourg, with Nancy as the base for the evening;
- Onward trips into the Vosges, to Strasbourg or to the champagne houses, by road or by a short second flight;
- Festival weekends, with Nancy Jazz Pulsations in October and the Saint-Nicolas parade in December.
The day trip is the one to look at closely. Take off from Biggin Hill at eight, land at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine a little after ten local time, leave at five in the afternoon local time and you are back on the British side at about five past five, UK time, with nearly seven hours on the ground, of which about an hour goes on the road there and back. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote it both ways, so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Nancy is a short sector from London, and its empty legs follow the rhythm of the weekends and the festivals, so it helps to know what produces them.
Where Nancy empty legs come from
– The first weekend of December. Aircraft that brought guests for the Saturday parade go home on the Sunday with nobody aboard, and the Sunday legs towards the London fields are the ones most likely to be offered;
– The Luxembourg corridor. Operators reposition aircraft between Luxembourg and the London fields, and a short positioning leg to or from Metz-Nancy-Lorraine sometimes fits between two longer jobs;
– Jazz week and the end of August. A jet that dropped a party at the start of the festival comes back for it at the end, and the legs in between can be cheap.
Because the Lorraine corridor is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Nancy match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
Around Nancy a helicopter is a way of saving the last half hour and of seeing the Vosges. The flight from Britain lands at an airport that can clear it, a helicopter then takes the party across the plateau to the edge of the city, and the luggage follows by road. Nancy-Essey keeps an unpaved strip for helicopters beside its runway, used only with the authorisation of its information service and within its hours.
18 nm in a straight line, against about half an hour by roadabout 17 minutes
58 nm in a straight line, against about an hour and a half by roadabout 38 minutes
a morning flight to the lake at Gérardmer and the ridges above iton request
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. Place Stanislas is a World Heritage site and the squares are not landing sites, and a hotel lawn needs its status confirmed before we quote, not after. The strip at Nancy-Essey, with its hours, is the landing place we plan around;
– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud, snow and fog on the plateau can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;
– A helicopter does not change the border rules. A party from Britain clears at the first airport in Schengen, a helicopter that crosses a national border needs permissions of its own, and we book the helicopter together with the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for the hills, the wider H130 for villa and country-house transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties.

Nancy charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK
Squares, a museum and home for dinner
Biggin Hill - Metz-Nancy-Lorraine and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 05 min each way · 4 pax
Wheels up at eight, on the ground a little after ten local time, a car to Place Stanislas, the Art Nouveau museum before lunch and the Excelsior at one. The aircraft and crew waited at the airport rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and still comes in below two separate one-way charters. The operator was told the return hour in advance, since the staffed day ends at ten in the evening on weekdays. A long day, and it works.
SAINT-NICOLAS WEEKEND · A DOG ON BOARD
Four adults and a spaniel for the parade
Farnborough - Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 05 min · 4 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the tapeworm treatment for the way home had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain, so we booked a vet in Nancy for the Sunday morning. The hotel by the squares took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in one exchange of messages rather than three.
LUXEMBOURG AND LORRAINE · ONE AIRCRAFT
Two meetings in Luxembourg and a night in Nancy
London Luton - Luxembourg, Phenom 300E, about 1 h · 3 pax
The meetings set the arrival, so the aircraft went to Luxembourg, where customs works round the clock. A car took the party down the A31 to Nancy for the evening, and the return left from Metz-Nancy-Lorraine the next day, the two sectors priced as one trip.
ART NOUVEAU WEEKEND · THE VILLA MAJORELLE
Five guests, a villa and a brasserie
Manchester - Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, Citation Latitude, about 1 h 20 min · 5 pax
The villa opens on set days for guided visits by reservation, so the booking for the villa came first and the flight followed it. The museum of the École de Nancy filled the next morning, a table was kept at the Excelsior, and the return left on the Sunday after a slow walk through the Pépinière.
JAZZ WEEK IN OCTOBER · A FULL CABIN
Six guests for the concerts
Birmingham - Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 15 min · 6 pax
The party booked the hotel and the tickets first and asked for the aircraft last, which worked because no other event competed for the dates. The handler was booked with the flight, the car left the apron for the centre a few minutes after the aircraft stopped, and the flight home was on the Sunday afternoon.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST
A jet already going your way
Metz-Nancy-Lorraine - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 05 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Nancy
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Nancy?
About 1 hour 5 minutes from Biggin Hill, London City, Farnborough or Luton in a light jet to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, covering roughly 289 to 319 nautical miles, plus about half an hour by road to Nancy. From Birmingham allow about 1 hour 15 minutes, from Manchester 1 hour 20 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow 1 hour 35 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. France is one hour ahead of Britain, so an eight o'clock departure lands a little after ten local time.
2How much does a private jet to Nancy cost?
From about £5,300 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill to Metz-Nancy-Lorraine, and the same from London City. A Phenom from Farnborough or Luton runs £5,700, a midsize cabin £6,900 to £7,750 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £12,900 to £13,300. The first weekend of December, with the Saint-Nicolas parade and the Christmas markets, prices above these figures.
3Which airport should a private jet use for Nancy?
Metz-Nancy-Lorraine (ETZ / LFJL) for almost every flight from Britain: a 3,050 m runway with an instrument approach, customs on 24 hours' notice and about half an hour by road to Nancy. Luxembourg (LUX / ELLX), about 120 km away, is the choice for midsize and heavy jets and late arrivals, with customs round the clock and a 4,002 m runway. Nancy-Essey (ENC / LFSN) is closer to the city but takes only flights from inside Schengen, and Strasbourg (SXB / LFST) is the Alsace alternative.
4Can a private jet from London land at Nancy-Essey?
Not under the published rules. The French aeronautical publication authorises flights from inside Schengen and the European Union, allows flights from Norway, Switzerland and Iceland on 24 hours' notice to the customs office in Metz, and prohibits flights from outside Schengen or the European Union. A flight from Britain therefore lands at Metz-Nancy-Lorraine or Luxembourg first. Essey, with a 1,600 m runway, is used by light aircraft and helicopters on legs that stay inside Schengen.
5Do I need a visa or a customs clearance for Nancy?
Britain is outside Schengen and France is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport under ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system, which is free. Metz-Nancy-Lorraine clears on request with 24 hours' notice, and Luxembourg works round the clock.
6Can I take my dog to Nancy on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you. France asks for a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt.
