Private jet charter in Frankfurt

Frankfurt is about an hour and twenty from the London fields in a light jet, and what can spoil the day there is the clock, not the weather. Private Jets UK plans the charter around that clock and around the fair calendar. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Frankfurt is a working city before it is anything else. The airport has runways of 4,000 m and a general aviation terminal of its own, so the aircraft is rarely the problem, but flying movements stop between 23:00 and 05:00, and a long dinner in the banking district decides the timetable more than the cabin does. What follows deals with that rule, with the weeks when the fairgrounds swallow every hotel room, and with what happens after landing.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Frankfurt depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Frankfurt?

An hour and twenty from Biggin Hill in a light jet, an hour and a half from Manchester, a little under two hours from Glasgow, and one hour of clock difference to add on arrival because Germany keeps Central European time. The sectors run from 347 to 609 nautical miles. That is a short sector and nowhere near the limit of a light jet, so the morning-meeting, evening-return day is entirely realistic. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Wheels up at half past eight from a London airfield and you are on the ground in Frankfurt shortly before eleven local time: about an hour and twenty in the air, with an hour added by the clock. The airport lies roughly 12 km south-west of the city centre, and private flights come in through the General Aviation Terminal in the Cargo City South area. A client who left a London office at seven can be at a desk in the banking district before lunch. With the drive to the British airfield and the short formalities at each end, the journey takes about three and a half hours. For a day trip the real deadline sits at the other end, because planned movements at Frankfurt stop at 23:00, so we put the return in the early evening and not at the last legal minute.

Light jet or midsize: the question that actually comes up on this route

– Up to about five people with ordinary bags, a light jet is the sensible answer. Under an hour and a half in the air, a bigger cabin buys comfort you will use for a short time, and the runways at Frankfurt are 4,000 m, so nothing is limited by length;

– Six to eight people, or a party carrying sample cases and display material for a fair, belongs in a midsize jet. We quote it next to the light jet so you see the gap. From Scotland the sector is long enough that the midsize quote is the honest one to start with;

– Heavy and ultra-long-range aircraft come into play when Frankfurt is the first leg of something longer. If the party carries on to the Gulf or beyond, the same aircraft can keep going, and the runways here have the length for the heaviest types.

Frankfurt is a good place from which to see the rest of Europe at short notice. Cologne Bonn is under 80 nautical miles away, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Zurich and Munich all sit within reach of a light or midsize jet, Paris is a similar distance, the Riviera is a longer sector and Dubai is a job for a large-cabin aircraft. Why the onward sectors are quick

The first two groups are all inside the Schengen area, so once you have cleared the passport check on the way in from Britain there is no further border control, and the formalities at the other end are as short as the flight. A light jet covers the German hops in about an hour, which makes the same trip by road or rail a long day. Turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12 are worth a quote on the shortest sectors, Cologne Bonn and Amsterdam among them, where they cost noticeably less than a jet.

Before you accept an onward quote from Frankfurt

– The hour of departure. Frankfurt allows no planned movements between 23:00 and 05:00, so a quote with you leaving at half past ten has already used most of its margin. Ask what happens if the aircraft is late or the meeting runs on;

– The airport at the other end. Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Zurich all have terminals for private aircraft, and some of them have hours and slot rules of their own. Ask which field the quote assumes;

– Whether a multi-stop trip is priced as one. Frankfurt, Hamburg and Berlin over two days costs less as a single booking, because the crew stay with you and do not fly home to base between stops.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h

Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Frankfurt:

Light jets, and where most bookings land

A sector of under an hour and a half rarely needs more than this, so the money goes on the hours and not on range you will not fly.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for fair stands and sample cases

Exhibition material, a team that wants to work in the air, and the longer sectors from Scotland all push a booking past the light-jet hold.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a delegation travelling as one party and for trips that carry on beyond Europe. The 4,000 m runways at Frankfurt are no limit for any of these.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Dassault Falcon 900LX · 12 seatsfrom £5,400/h
Gulfstream G550 · 16 seatsfrom £6,700/h
Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom £6,400/h

Turboprops

The Pilatus PC-12 and the King Air 350 earn their place on the short German, Dutch and Swiss sectors, where they save a good deal against a jet.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the hop from the airport to a hotel, an estate or a smaller airfield in the region. Landing away from an approved airfield needs permission in Germany, so the site is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Outside the fair weeks there is often an aircraft already positioned at Frankfurt or at another field in the Rhine-Main region, and that is frequently where the better price comes from, so we ask the operators where theirs is based before a figure goes out.

Business aviation airports in Frankfurt

One airport is the answer for almost every flight from Britain, and the others matter for specific reasons. It helps to know them before a quote arrives with one of them in it.

Airport What it gives you
Frankfurt Main
FRA / EDDF
The first choice for almost every trip, and the airport the rest of this page is about. It lies about 12 km south-west of the city centre, with three runways of 4,000 m and a fourth of 2,800 m used for landings, so no aircraft we send to Europe is limited by length. Private flights use the General Aviation Terminal in the Cargo City South area, with customs and immigration for the flight and a lounge for passengers. Several handlers work the field, among them Frankfurt Aviation Service, Fraport Executive Aviation and the Business Aviation Centre run by Kurz Aviation Service. The airport is slot coordinated and handling is compulsory. Planned movements stop between 23:00 and 05:00. We confirm slot and handling terms for your date
Frankfurt Egelsbach
EDFE
A general aviation field about 10 km south-east of Frankfurt Airport, with one asphalt runway of 1,400 m, no scheduled services and a listing that shows no instrument procedures. It sits beneath Frankfurt's controlled airspace. The runway is short for anything larger than a light jet, and whether a flight arriving from Britain can clear customs there is something we confirm in writing before a quote names the field. From Britain the default is Frankfurt Main
Frankfurt-Hahn
HHN / EDFH
About 120 km west of Frankfurt by road, in the Hunsrück, with a 3,800 m runway and a 24-hour operating licence. It is used by low-cost airlines and cargo, and despite its name it is not a Frankfurt airport in any practical sense. We price it only if an aircraft has to land or leave during the Frankfurt night ban, or if the business is in the Hunsrück or the Moselle, and we confirm handling and customs for the hour before it goes into a quote
Cologne Bonn
CGN / EDDK
About 135 km north-west of Frankfurt as the crow flies, with a main runway of 3,815 m and round-the-clock operation. It is the airport we price when a Frankfurt departure cannot be made before 23:00, and the better choice when half the trip is in Cologne or Bonn. Slot and handling arrangements are confirmed for the date
Stuttgart
STR / EDDS
About 155 km to the south-east in a straight line, with a single 3,345 m runway about 10 km south of the city. It has night operation restrictions of its own, which we check for the date. It makes sense when the meeting is in Stuttgart or elsewhere in Baden-Württemberg and not when Frankfurt is the destination

Four points settle most Frankfurt arrivals:

Choose the terminal and the handler

The General Aviation Terminal has a passenger lounge, a crew lounge on the apron and customs and immigration for the flight. Handling is compulsory at Frankfurt, so one of the field's handlers will be appointed, and we ask which one the operator prefers. None of this is the VIP service in the main terminals, which is sold to airline passengers and is a different product from a charter.

Hours, slots and the night ban

Planned flying movements stop between 23:00 and 05:00. An aircraft running late can in some cases still land before midnight, and a departure inside the ban needs individual approval and carries a noise surcharge. For a charter we plan to be well clear of 23:00 and ask in writing for anything else. Slots are required, so the slot goes in with the flight plan.

Border and passport

Germany is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear passport control at the terminal on arrival. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for at least three months after departure. On a first visit you may be asked to register fingerprints and a photograph.

Cars and the fair weeks

Give us the terminal as well as the flight, because a driver told only Frankfurt Airport can wait at the wrong building. The fairgrounds are close to the centre, so in a fair week the road into town is the slow part of the trip and the car is timed around it. For a trade fair, ask the organiser whether protocol cars already cover the airport run.

The 23:00 rule and what to do about it

Frankfurt wins on every count except the clock. If the evening is likely to run past the ban, the usual answer is to leave earlier and not later: a dinner that ends at ten does not fit a departure that has to be well away before eleven, and it is cheaper to move the dinner. When the plan truly cannot move, Cologne Bonn, about 135 km away and open round the clock, is the airport we price instead, with Hahn as a long drive but also licensed for 24 hours. Land at Frankfurt for the arrival, since it is the close one, and let us price the departure from whichever airport matches the hour.

From the apron to the skyline

Frankfurt is Germany's financial capital. The European Central Bank sits here, so does the Bundesbank, and the stock exchange is the largest in the country. The towers that earned the city the nickname Mainhattan include the Commerzbank Tower at 259 m and the Main Tower at 200 m, the only skyscraper with a public observation deck. About three-quarters of a million people live in the city, in a Rhine-Main region of more than five million, and the density of jobs is the highest in Germany. The distances that matter run from the airport.

Frankfurt Airport to the city centre

Flying to Frankfurt with a dog or a cat

A pet on a Frankfurt charter is simpler than the paperwork makes it look, because the flight is short and, with the operator's agreement, the animal travels in the cabin beside you. The date on the health certificate is where owners get caught: for entry into the EU it is valid for only ten days from the day it is issued.

private flight with animals

What Germany and the UK ask for:

  • A microchip, fitted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination, never after it;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days passed before you travel;
  • An animal health certificate from your vet, issued for each trip and valid for ten days for entry into the EU and, for the return to Great Britain, as stated on the certificate;
  • Arrival through a travellers' point of entry, which our handler arranges at the terminal;
  • No more than five animals per traveller;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain. Cats do not need it.

What catches owners out on the Frankfurt run

– Germany is not one of the countries that require tapeworm treatment on the way in, so the vet visit that counts is the one before the flight home. We book the appointment inside the 24 to 120 hour window, put the time on the certificate and plan the departure around it;

– A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales is not valid for entry into the EU, so the certificate is a fresh one for every trip;

– A fair week with a dog is an ordinary booking, but hotels differ on pets and the good ones fill early, so settle the hotel before the quote and not after it.

Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Frankfurt calendar: a city of fairs with a football habit

Frankfurt is crowded more than it is seasonal. The exhibition halls fill the winter and spring, the autumn belongs to the Book Fair and the marathon, and the Christmas market closes the year. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

August to May
The football season. Eintracht Frankfurt play at Deutsche Bank Park, which holds 59,500 for league matches and has its own railway station. Home weekends fill the hotels, and the stadium also stages concerts of up to 65,000
January and February
The consumer-goods fairs: Heimtextil in January, then Ambiente, Christmasworld and Creativeworld in February. Expect hotels and cars to be tight on the fair days
March and April
ISH, the bathroom and building-services fair, in March, and Techtextil, Texprocess and Prolight + Sound in April. Light + Building, the lighting and building-technology fair, is held every other year
Last weekend of August
The Museumsuferfest, a three-day festival along both banks of the Main with stages, markets and a fireworks finale, drawing more than a million visitors. Small groups, mostly leisure
September
Automechanika, the motor-trade fair. Business travel on dates fixed by the organisers, with parties arriving together
October
The Frankfurt Book Fair, five days in mid-month, the first three for the trade only, and the Frankfurt Marathon, which finishes in the Festhalle. The busiest weeks of the autumn
November to 22 December
Formnext, the additive-manufacturing fair, in November, and from late November the Christmas market across the old town, from the Römerberg to the Mainkai, with about three million visitors. Weekend city breaks, many with dogs

Why a fair week costs more

Not the flying. What tightens is hotels, cars, and the clock. In a big fair week the hotels fill and the airport fills with it, and slots near a major fair are requested months ahead. A booking made a fortnight before can still be done, but it pays more and may mean an aircraft positioned from another field, while the same booking made five or six weeks ahead is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks Frankfurt is an easy city to fly into, and a charter can often be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Frankfurt price down

  • Fly on the shoulder days. Arriving on the Tuesday and leaving on the Thursday of a fair week costs less than the first and last days, when everyone else wants the same slot;
  • Plan the return with the night ban in mind. An evening departure that is comfortably early lets the operator treat the day as one job, whereas a late one pushes the aircraft into an overnight and the quote follows;
  • Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people and four bags do not need a midsize, and the saving pays for the car and the hotel.

Types of flights

Frankfurt produces a different mix from the Alpine or Mediterranean destinations we cover, because it is a financial and exhibition city, with a football club and a Christmas market that draw leisure visitors from across Europe.

  • Banking, legal and consulting trips: a morning in the financial district and home the same evening, which is the commonest booking and the one the night ban shapes most;
  • Trade fair travel, with exhibitors and buyers on fixed dates, often with samples and display material;
  • Book Fair week in October, mostly small parties of agents, authors and rights buyers on their own timetable;
  • Football and concert weekends at Deutsche Bank Park, which mean a short stay and a late finish;
  • Weekend breaks to the Christmas market, the museum festival and the Rheingau, often with a dog;
  • Onward travel to the Alps, the Riviera and the Gulf, usually when a party has combined business with leisure.

The day trip is the one to price carefully. You leave at about half past seven, reach Frankfurt shortly before ten local time, and have most of a working day on the ground before an early-evening departure that clears the night ban with room to spare. The aircraft and crew wait for you, and the waiting is paid for, but a same-day return usually still comes out below two separate one-way charters. We quote it both ways so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Frankfurt is a busy business destination, so legs appear regularly, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Frankfurt empty legs come from

– Fair weeks. Aircraft arrive with an exhibition party and often leave empty a day or so after the fair closes, which produces outbound legs in the days that follow;

– Weekend leisure traffic. Aircraft bring people in for a match or a Christmas market weekend and go back to their bases empty on the Sunday evening;

– Rhine-Main rotation. Operators move aircraft between Frankfurt, Cologne Bonn and other German airports, and those short German legs can be cheap.

A client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening, and the night ban should be in mind when you do: a leg that leaves Frankfurt has to be airborne before it starts. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Frankfurt leg the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

Around Frankfurt a helicopter is a tool for the last few miles and not for the middle of a trip. Wiesbaden, Heidelberg and the smaller airfields of the region are close enough that a rotor can link them without a runway at either end, but German law does not let a helicopter land wherever it likes.

Frankfurt Airport to Wiesbaden
about 25 km, for the Hessian state capital and the Rheingau beyond it
about 10 minutes
Frankfurt Airport to Egelsbach
about 10 km, a short hop to the general aviation field
about 5 minutes
Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg
about 70 km, for the old town and the university
about 25 minutes
Frankfurt Airport to Frankfurt-Hahn
about 95 km, the nearest airport that is licensed round the clock
about 30 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– Landings outside an approved airfield need permission from the state aviation authority, which in Hesse is the regional administration. A hotel lawn, a company car park or a private estate has to have its status confirmed before we quote, not after, and rooftop sites need a separate safety review;

– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud or fog in the Main valley can stop a helicopter on a day when a jet lands without difficulty, so every transfer needs a road or rail alternative in the same plan;

– Twin-engine machines are the sensible minimum for any transfer across a built-up area. In a big fair week, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for light work, the wider H130 for scenic and estate transfers, and the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Frankfurt charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK

A morning in the financial district and home for dinner

Biggin Hill - Frankfurt and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 20 min each way · 4 pax

Wheels up at half past seven, on the ground at Frankfurt shortly before ten local time, three meetings in the banking district and back in the air in the early evening, well clear of the 23:00 rule. The aircraft and crew waited at the general aviation terminal, which is a real line in the quote and usually still comes in below two separate one-way charters.

THE NIGHT BAN · THE DINNER MOVED

A late dinner that did not fit the clock

London Luton - Frankfurt and return, Citation CJ3+ · 5 pax

The client's plan had the party leaving after eleven, which Frankfurt does not allow for a planned departure. Rather than ask for an exception and hope, we moved the dinner an hour earlier and the departure to the evening. The booking cost the same, and nobody spent the night in a hotel they had not planned to use.

BOOK FAIR · FIXED DATES

A small publishing party in October

Farnborough - Frankfurt, Phenom 300E · 6 pax

The dates came from the fair, not from the client. Six people, folders of material and a request for a car at the aircraft door. The booking went in six weeks ahead, the handler pre-arranged the passport check at the terminal, and the hotel question was settled before the quote was accepted.

CHRISTMAS MARKET · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a spaniel for a December weekend

Southampton - Frankfurt, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 20 min · 4 pax + dog

The animal health certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the tapeworm treatment for the return fell between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain. We booked the vet with the aircraft, the hotel took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in a single exchange of messages rather than three.

ONWARD · TWO AIRCRAFT, ONE TIMETABLE

A board party carrying on to the Gulf

Frankfurt - Dubai, Bombardier Global 6000 · 9 pax

The party flew in from London on a light jet for a morning meeting and left that evening on a long-range aircraft positioned for the Gulf. Both flights were planned together, so that the departure sat comfortably ahead of the night ban and the two crews worked to one clock.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST

A jet already going your way

Frankfurt - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for an early Sunday evening departure to London.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Frankfurt

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Frankfurt?

About 1 hour 20 minutes from Biggin Hill, London City, Luton or Farnborough in a light jet, covering roughly 347 to 378 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 1 hour 25 to 30 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow about 1 hour 50 minutes. Germany is one hour ahead of Britain, so a departure at half past eight lands shortly before eleven local time.

2How much does a private jet to Frankfurt cost?

From about £5,750 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill or London City, £6,000 from Luton and £6,100 from Farnborough. A Phenom 300E from the rest of England and Wales runs £6,400 to £7,600, and from Scotland allow £10,550 to £10,950. The large fairs, the Book Fair and the Christmas market weekends price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Frankfurt?

Frankfurt Main (FRA / EDDF) for almost every trip. It is about 12 km south-west of the centre, has runways of 4,000 m and a General Aviation Terminal with customs, and slots and handling are compulsory. Egelsbach (EDFE) has a runway of only 1,400 m, so a flight from Britain goes to Frankfurt Main. For a late departure use Cologne Bonn (CGN / EDDK), which operates round the clock.

4Can a private jet leave Frankfurt late in the evening?

Not by plan. Frankfurt allows no planned flying movements between 23:00 and 05:00, and a departure inside that period needs individual approval at a surcharge. We plan to be well clear of 23:00. If the evening cannot move, we price the departure from Cologne Bonn, which is open round the clock, or ask the airport in writing for an exception.

5When should I book a private jet to Frankfurt?

Outside the peaks a day or two is usually enough. For the big consumer-goods fairs, the Book Fair in October and the Christmas market weekends, allow four to six weeks. Hotels and cars get tight in the same days, and a late booking tends to pay more for an aircraft positioned from another airport.

6Can I take my dog to Frankfurt on a private jet?

Yes. With the operator's agreement the dog travels in the cabin with you. It needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old and an animal health certificate that is valid for ten days for entry into the EU. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival. Cats do not need the treatment.
