Private jet charter in Augsburg

A light jet that leaves a London-area airfield after an early breakfast is over Bavaria in under two hours, and Augsburg, the Roman and merchant city that Munich overshadows on every airline map, is then about fifty minutes down the autobahn. Private Jets UK picks the landing airport for the aircraft and the diary, whether that is the town's own airfield or the hub at Munich. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Augsburg is a place where the airport question matters more than the aircraft question. The town has a small airfield of its own with customs on site, Munich has the full business-aviation machinery, and the right choice depends on the jet, the hour and what you are flying in for.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Augsburg depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ flying to Munich Airport, the gateway for Augsburg, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Augsburg?

An hour and three-quarters from Biggin Hill in a light jet, a little over two hours from Edinburgh or Glasgow, and one hour of clock difference to add on arrival, because Germany keeps Central European time. At 508 to 776 nautical miles this is a medium sector for a light jet and an easy one for anything bigger. Every pairing in the table lands at Munich Airport, because that is where a business jet of any size can be handled at any reasonable hour. A light jet or a turboprop can instead land at Augsburg's own airfield, which shortens the sector to 474 nautical miles from Biggin Hill and takes about an hour and forty minutes.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave Biggin Hill at seven and the wheels touch the long Munich runway a little before ten local time. The General Aviation Terminal stands on the eastern side of the airport, and from the apron a car takes about 50 minutes to Augsburg, so a client who left central London at six can be in the Rathausplatz around eleven. Add the drive to the British airfield and the whole journey comes to a little under four hours. Landing instead at Augsburg's own airfield, which a light jet can do, cuts the road to a taxi ride of about 15 minutes, and that is why the little field earns its place in the quote.

Light jet or midsize: what decides it on this route

– Up to four people with ordinary bags, a light jet is the right answer. At about an hour and three-quarters a Citation CJ3+ is comfortable enough, a Citation XLS+ on the same Biggin Hill sector costs about £1,850 more one way, and a light jet is also the class that can use Augsburg's own runway;

– Past that, or with sample cases, a dog or a week of luggage for a trade fair, we quote a midsize jet beside it so you see both figures. Midsize jets normally land at Munich, and the car does the last 83 km;

– Heavy aircraft only make sense for a large party travelling as one group, or when Augsburg is the first stop of a longer European loop. Their runway needs rule out the town's field, so the arrival is Munich.

Prices for the private jet flights to Augsburg

Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them priced into Munich Airport. A light jet that lands at Augsburg itself takes about £400 off the Biggin Hill figure. Oktoberfest, the Plärrer weeks and the large Munich trade fairs sit above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Private jet flights from Augsburg

Augsburg lies in the middle of southern Germany, so the first onward sectors are short and the longer ones go north to the capitals or south over the Alps to the sun. Stuttgart, Zurich and Frankfurt are a turboprop hop away, Venice and Vienna a light jet away, and Nice or Palma a midsize sector. The prices below are quoted from Munich Airport. A turboprop or light jet that leaves from Augsburg's own airfield flies a sector a few nautical miles different and is priced to match. Typical one-way prices:

Short hops: when the aircraft is the wrong answer

Stuttgart is only 108 nautical miles from Munich and Zurich 147, and sectors that short rarely repay the aircraft. From Augsburg to Stuttgart is about 160 km by autobahn, roughly an hour and a half, and a train takes a little over an hour and three-quarters. The jet earns its fee when a long-haul connection waits at the far end, when the party is large, or when the aircraft stays with you for a second stop. For a plain city-to-city run we will say so and quote the road.

Before you accept an onward quote from Augsburg

– The airport named in the quote. A departure from Augsburg's own field after 21:00 on a weekday needs prior permission and is charged for, while Munich's General Aviation Terminal keeps published hours of 06:00 to 22:00, with one handler offering 24-hour service on request. The late dinner is the usual reason a quote changes on the day;

– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Augsburg to Zurich to Nice arranged as one trip costs noticeably less than three separate quotes, because the crew and aircraft stay with you instead of repositioning each time.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h
Long-haul jet (Global 5000, G550, Falcon 7X)£5,800 - 8,800/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Augsburg:

Light jets, and where most bookings land

At under two hours this is the sensible class for four or five people with ordinary luggage. It is also the class that can use Augsburg's own 1,280 m runway, so the choice of aircraft decides which airport appears in the quote. Nothing here lacks the range for Bavaria, and the money goes on the hour and not on capability you will not use.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for a delegation and a longer stay

Sample cases, presentation kit and luggage for a week of fairs are what push a party past the light-jet hold. These aircraft land at Munich, and a performance check decides whether the smaller ones may also use Augsburg's field on a given day.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a board travelling as one party, for a team that needs to work in the air, and for trips that carry on from Bavaria to the Mediterranean or beyond instead of turning round. Munich is the arrival for all of them.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The aircraft that fits Augsburg's own airfield best, and the right one for the short onward legs to Stuttgart, Zurich or Frankfurt: each is under an hour in the air, and the saving over a jet on that distance is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: the Alpine foothills, a factory site outside the town or a meeting that cannot wait for the autobahn. German rules on where a helicopter may put down are strict, so the site is agreed before the quote.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Augsburg sits between the Munich, Stuttgart and Zurich fleets, so for a booking outside Oktoberfest and the big fairs there is usually an aircraft within an hour of the Munich apron, and that is often where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Augsburg

Two airfields share the work, and they are not equals. One is a hub with every service and no size limit, the other is a small field seven kilometres from the old town. It helps to know which is which before a quote arrives with one of them in it.

Airport What it gives you
Munich Airport
MUC / EDDM
The gateway for almost every trip that is not a light jet or a turboprop. Two parallel 4,000 m runways, about 28 km north-east of Munich near Freising and some 83 km from Augsburg by road. Business aircraft use the General Aviation Terminal on the eastern side of the field, where the handlers include ExecuJet, Signature Flight Support, Lufthansa Technik, MAS Munich Aviation Service and AHS. Customs is on the airport, and there is no obligation to use the terminal's handlers
Augsburg Airport
AGB / EDMA
The town's own airfield, about 7 km north-east of the old town and close to the A8, with a runway of about 1,280 m (asphalt, grooved), an elevation of 462 m and an ILS on runway 25 only. A customs office and the border police are permanently in the terminal, no slots are required and parking is free. It is open Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 21:00 and on Sundays and public holidays from 09:00 to 21:00, local time, with chargeable prior permission outside those hours. The runway is short for business jets: turboprops and light jets are the natural users and the smaller midsize types need a performance check. Airbus Helicopters carries out maintenance on the field
Memmingen, Allgäu Airport
FMM / EDJA
A long runway of well over 2,500 m at Memmingen, about 81 km from Augsburg by road and an hour's drive. Customs is listed as available, and the directories we use show hours of 06:00 to 23:00 with permission needed outside them and slots required, which we confirm for the date. Ryanair bases here, so the airline side is busy; general aviation has a smaller apron of its own on the far side of the runway. It is the sensible landing when the trip is really about the Allgäu and the southern end of the Romantic Road
Oberpfaffenhofen
OBF / EDMO
A business-aviation field at Weßling, west of Munich and about 46 km from Augsburg in a straight line, with a runway of about 2,300 m. The directories list it as an airport of entry, with customs and immigration needing advance notice and limited published hours. Worth asking about when Munich is congested or when a large jet needs a closer landing than the hub gives, and we confirm customs and hours for the date
Stuttgart Airport
STR / EDDS
Stuttgart lies about 160 km west of Augsburg by road, an hour and a half in the car. The airport has a 3,345 m runway and a separate General Aviation Terminal, but strict night rules for jets. It is the landing for a trip that is really about Württemberg, with Augsburg as the second stop

Four points settle most Augsburg arrivals:

Choose the handler

Munich has several handlers at the General Aviation Terminal, each offering a private lounge, ground power, fuelling, catering and car service, and a business jet is not obliged to use the terminal's own handling. We confirm who is dealing with you before the quote and give the driver the handler's name, not simply the airport. At Augsburg itself the airfield staff deal with the arrival, and the directories mark handling as not mandatory.

Hours and the two airfields

Munich's General Aviation Terminal publishes 06:00 to 22:00, with a handler able to work around the clock on request. Augsburg is open 07:00 to 21:00 from Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 21:00 on Sundays and public holidays, and permission outside those hours is chargeable. The airfield warns that the tower can be short-staffed on some days, so pilots call ahead. We plan the return well inside the hours and confirm in writing what applies to your aircraft.

Border and passport

Germany is in Schengen and Britain is not, so passport control and customs are done on arrival, at Munich or at Augsburg, where the border police are in the terminal. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for at least three months after departure. Flying home, a General Aviation Report is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure.

Car and the last kilometres

From the Munich apron the drive to Augsburg is about 83 km and roughly 50 minutes by car; the train needs a change and takes well over an hour, which is not a private client's option. From Augsburg Airport a taxi to the old town takes about 15 minutes. Give us the address of the meeting as well as the flight, because the car is often wanted for a plant in a district or a satellite town, and on Oktoberfest days the Munich road is slower.

business aviation

Border, passport and the choice of arrival

The simplest arrival for a large aircraft is Munich: you land at the General Aviation Terminal, the passports are checked, and the car is at the door. A light jet or a turboprop can do better. Augsburg's own airfield has customs and the border police in the terminal, so the whole procedure is done a short taxi ride from the town centre. The formalities are completed at the first German airport, and the road afterwards is inside Schengen with no border stop, so a client who lands in Munich and drives on to Memmingen or the castles has nothing further to do.

From the apron to the Rathausplatz

Augsburg is the third-largest city in Bavaria, with about 300,000 inhabitants, and lies roughly 50 km west of Munich on the Lech and Wertach rivers. The Romans founded it more than two thousand years ago as Augusta Vindelicorum, named for Augustus, and it later became the capital of the Roman province of Raetia. In the sixteenth century its merchant-banking families, the Fuggers and the Welsers, dominated European finance. The old town still carries both periods, and the sights cluster in and around the Rathausplatz. The distances that matter run outward, to Munich, the Alps and the castles.

Augsburg Airport to the old town
about 7 km north-east of the centre, close to the A8
about 15 minutes
Munich Airport to Augsburg
about 83 km by road; the train needs a change and takes over an hour
about 50 minutes
Augsburg to Neuschwanstein
about 103 km by road, along the southern end of the Romantic Road
about 1 h 15 min
Augsburg to Linderhof
about 110 km by road, a little further than the castle
about 1 h 25 min
Augsburg to Stuttgart
about 160 km by road; a train takes a little over an hour and three-quarters
about 1 h 30 min

The Fuggerei is the sight people ask about first. Founded by Jakob Fugger for needy citizens of the town, it is described as the oldest social housing complex in the world, with 67 buildings and 142 apartments, a church, a museum and a wartime bunker open to visitors. The annual rent is the equivalent of less than one pound, and the residents, Catholic Augsburg citizens in need, also pray three times a day. It still works as housing, which is why a visit is a walk through a living street and not a museum hall.

The Town Hall is the other great set piece. Elias Holl, the town's master builder, designed it in the early seventeenth century, and it is counted among the most significant secular Renaissance buildings north of the Alps. Its Golden Hall (Goldener Saal) covers 552 square metres under a ceiling 14 metres high, flanked by four Fürstenzimmer, the guest rooms for visiting princes. Wartime bombing burned the building and the interior was restored later, which is why the hall that visitors see today is partly a reconstruction. The Augsburger Puppenkiste is the lighter stop: a marionette theatre in the former Heilig-Geist-Spital, which Walter Oehmichen reopened under its present name just after the war and which made Jim Knopf and Lukas the Engine Driver and Urmel aus dem Eis for generations of German children, and has a museum on the first floor.

Two more reasons to stay a day. The water management system of Augsburg is a World Heritage site: 22 elements, including canals, water towers from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century, a butchers' hall cooled by water, three monumental fountains, the Hochablass waterworks and hydropower stations that still generate electricity. Bertolt Brecht was born here, and the Brechtfestival in winter keeps him in the town's diary. Leopold Mozart, the father of Wolfgang Amadeus, was born and educated in Augsburg as well.

What private clients do here is business first and sightseeing second. Everllence, formerly MAN Energy Solutions, the large-engine and turbomachinery maker whose roots go back to the first diesel engine built with Rudolf Diesel, has its headquarters in the town, and so does KUKA, the industrial-robot maker. A regional aerospace overview counts about 25,000 people employed in the sector and names MT Aerospace, Premium Aerotec, Airbus Helicopters and KUKA among its companies, with the German Aerospace Center and a Fraunhofer institute alongside. Airbus Helicopters assembles the H135, the H145 and the NH90 at Donauwörth, about 34 km north of Augsburg in a straight line, and maintains helicopters on Augsburg's own airfield. A supplier meeting in the morning, a plant tour after lunch and an evening in the old town is an ordinary programme, and for the guests who came along the Romantic Road is a short drive south.

The Romantic Road, the touring route that runs from Würzburg in the north to Füssen in the south, passes through Augsburg between Donauwörth and Friedberg, and the stretch south of the town leads to Füssen, Neuschwanstein and the Wieskirche near Steingaden, with Linderhof Palace a little to the east. Munich lies about 50 km to the east: the Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese and the Messe München fairgrounds on the old Riem airport site, which host bauma, Expo Real, electronica and many more, are all a car ride away, and Augsburg makes a quieter base for a Munich programme than the city itself. Fair days and festival days in Munich are the reason to put the car in the quote from the start.

Flying to Augsburg with a dog or a cat

Germany asks for more paperwork than the flight takes, and the flight is short enough that most animals sleep through it. The animal sits beside you in the cabin with no hold involved. What matters is that the certificate is dated correctly, because it has a ten-day life from the day it is issued.

private flight with animals

What Germany asks for:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or on the same day, never after it;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before entry;
  • An Animal Health Certificate from an Official Veterinarian, issued no more than ten days before the animal enters the EU, and valid for the return as stated on the certificate;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, presented at the first point of entry into the EU, which the handler coordinates on arrival;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before the return flight to Britain, recorded with product, date and time. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Augsburg run

– The tapeworm treatment is for the way home, not the way out, so it is a vet appointment you book in Augsburg or Munich, towards the end of the stay. The 24 to 120 hour window is tight on a short business trip, and 8 August is a local holiday in Augsburg, so a vet appointment in the town on that day is unlikely;

– A GB pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU. The certificate has to be a fresh one for each trip, and a dog whose rabies vaccination lapses while it is away loses the right to come back on it;

– If the dog is coming to a hotel or a castle weekend, settle the accommodation and any helicopter transfer before the quote, because a hotel has to accept the animal and a rotary operator has to agree to it separately. Back in Britain, we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Augsburg calendar: two folk fairs, one local holiday and a big neighbour

Augsburg has a quieter diary than Munich, but its peaks are real, and they come from three directions: its own fairs, a public holiday found only in Augsburg, and the pull of Munich next door. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

Late February to early March
Brechtfestival, a theatre, music and discussion festival for Bertolt Brecht, born in the town, with the Staatstheater and the Textilviertel as venues. A cultural crowd, small parties and quiet airfield days
Around Easter, two weeks
Frühjahrsplärrer on the Kleiner Exerzierplatz, the spring edition of the town's folk fair, described as Swabia's largest, with beer tents, rides and fireworks. Organisers expect more than half a million visitors, and hotels fill
8 August
Hohes Friedensfest, a public holiday only in the city of Augsburg, with a peace table in front of the Town Hall and events in the districts. Offices follow public-holiday hours, so meetings go to the days either side
Late August to mid-September
Herbstplärrer, the autumn edition, 17 days on the same ground, with more than half a million visitors and free entry. Together the two fairs draw about 1.2 million people a year
Mid-September to early October
Oktoberfest in Munich, about 16 to 18 days on the Theresienwiese, with around seven million visitors. It follows almost directly on the Herbstplärrer, so September is the busiest month of the year for hotels and aircraft in the region
Late November to 24 December
Christkindlesmarkt on the Rathausplatz, with the Engelesspiel on the Town Hall facade at 18:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Weekend city breaks by air, mostly small parties, sometimes with a dog
Across the year
Trade fairs at the Messe München, among them bauma, Expo Real and electronica, and the corporate diary of the region's industry. These produce the Monday arrivals and Thursday evening departures that fill Munich's General Aviation Terminal

Why a festival week costs more

Not the flying. The fleet around Munich, Stuttgart and Zurich is large and Bavaria sits comfortably inside it. What gets tight is the apron space at Munich, hotel rooms and good cars, all in the same few days, and the fixed end of the day: every guest wants the last evening out. A booking made a fortnight before Oktoberfest or a large fair can still be done, but it pays more and may use an aircraft positioned from another country. The same booking made four or five weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper, and outside those weeks a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Augsburg price down

  • Take the light jet and ask about Augsburg's own airfield. For four people with ordinary bags it saves the sector and the motorway, and it is the one change that moves the price and the journey time together;
  • Move the dates a few days where you can. The weeks between Oktoberfest and the Christmas market, and the stretches outside the fair months, are calm;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Munich, Stuttgart or Zurich takes less positioning than one from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a meaningful share of the bill;
  • Leave the town with room to spare. A departure at six or seven in the evening avoids the question of what happens if the dinner runs on, and the closing hours at both airfields.

Types of flights

Augsburg produces a different mix from the capital cities we cover, because the town is an engineering centre first and a city of old stones second, with a very large neighbour that shapes the diary.

  • Engine, robotics and aerospace business, with a morning at a plant in the town or at Donauwörth and a return the same evening;
  • Trade-fair travel to the Messe München, often by small teams that stay in Augsburg and need their own schedule;
  • Castle and Romantic Road trips, built around Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and the old towns to the north;
  • Festival weekends, Oktoberfest groups and Christmas market breaks, many of them with a dog;
  • Culture trips for the Fuggerei, the Golden Hall, the water system and the Brecht sites.

The day trip is worth a closer look. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. Leaving Biggin Hill at seven and being back in Britain by early evening is realistic, particularly with a light jet that lands at Augsburg, and on this route we quote the day trip both ways so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Augsburg route they come from the rhythm of the Munich fair calendar and the festival weekends, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Augsburg empty legs come from

– Trade-fair weeks. Aircraft bring delegations to Munich on the Monday and leave empty on the Thursday or Friday, and that return leg is the one most often offered;

– Corporate days. A plant visit that finishes at lunch frees the aircraft, which then goes back to its base empty in the afternoon;

– Festival and Christmas market weekends. Short stays fill the aircraft one way, and the return to the base is released as an empty leg.

Because the corridor to southern Germany is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag an Augsburg or Munich match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Augsburg a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip. The town has an airfield on the A8 and Munich is an hour away by road, so the places where rotary flight changes the day are the Alpine foothills, the castles and a plant site far from any runway. Helicopters are part of the local landscape: Airbus Helicopters maintains them on the airfield, a flight academy and a helicopter operator are based there, and sightseeing flights leave from the field. The Munich airport has a concrete helipad of its own.

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter in Germany cannot land wherever it likes. Take-off and landing outside an approved airfield need both the landowner's consent and a permit from the aviation authority under the Air Traffic Act, so a factory pad, a private garden or a spot near a castle has its status confirmed before we quote, not after;

– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud over the Alpine foothills can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– Twin-engine machines are the sensible minimum on any route towards higher ground. For Oktoberfest and the large fairs, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for foothill and castle work, the wider H130 for villa and hotel transfers, the H135, which is assembled at Donauwörth, and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Augsburg charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK

A supplier meeting and home for dinner

Biggin Hill - Augsburg and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 40 min each way · 4 pax

Wheels up at seven, on the ground at the town's own airfield before ten local time, through customs in the terminal and in a taxi to a plant on the edge of the town within minutes. The aircraft and crew waited on the apron rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and still comes in below two separate one-way charters. The return left in the afternoon, long before the airfield closed at 21:00.

AEROSPACE · THE LUGGAGE BOOKED THE CABIN

Six people, tooling samples and a supplier week

Farnborough - Munich, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 45 min · 6 pax

Samples and test equipment took the hold well beyond what a light jet carries comfortably, so the quote moved up a class for the luggage and not for the seats. This midsize jet landed at Munich, so the car took the party on to the Augsburg and Donauwörth sites, and the dates were set by the supplier calendar, five weeks ahead.

OKTOBERFEST WEEK · A BASE IN AUGSBURG

A hosting group with a quieter hotel

London Luton - Munich, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 50 min · 6 pax

The group wanted the festival by day and a calm evening in Augsburg, about 50 minutes from the apron. The quote named the handler, the car and a Sunday return, and the dates were fixed early because aircraft are scarce across Bavaria in those weeks. It is the kind of detail a quote should state, and ours did.

CASTLES · THE ROMANTIC ROAD

Two nights in Augsburg and a day at Neuschwanstein

Manchester - Munich, Citation XLS+, about 2 h · 5 pax

The party landed at Munich, drove to Augsburg for the Fuggerei and the Golden Hall, and spent the next day on the road south to the castle, about an hour and a quarter each way. The aircraft that brought them from Manchester went home empty, and the booking was priced as one trip with the return added.

CHRISTMAS MARKET · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a spaniel for a December weekend

Southampton - Munich, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 45 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the hotel took the dog, and everything was settled in a single exchange of messages.

EMPTY LEG · FRIDAY AFTERNOON WEST

A jet already going your way

Munich - London Luton, Citation CJ3+ empty leg, about 1 h 50 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a delegation in on the Monday and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Friday afternoon departure.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Augsburg

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Augsburg?

About 1 hour 45 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City to Munich in a light jet, and roughly 1 hour 50 minutes from Luton or Farnborough. A light jet small enough to use Augsburg's own airfield saves about five minutes. From Birmingham or Bristol allow around 1 hour 50 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow about 2 hours 10 to 2 hours 15 minutes in a midsize jet. Bavaria is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure from Biggin Hill lands just before ten local time.

2How much does a private jet to Augsburg cost?

We quote into Munich Airport, the gateway for Augsburg: from about £7,650 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, £7,650 from London City and £7,900 from Luton. A Phenom 300E from Southampton, Birmingham or Bristol runs £8,250 to £8,900, and from Scotland allow £16,100 to £16,600. A light jet that lands at Augsburg itself comes out about £400 lower from Biggin Hill. Oktoberfest, the Plärrer weeks and the big Munich trade fairs price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Augsburg?

Munich (MUC / EDDM) for most trips. It is about 83 km from Augsburg by road, roughly 50 minutes, and has a General Aviation Terminal, several handlers and customs. Augsburg's own airfield (AGB / EDMA) lies about 7 km from the old town and has customs and border police, but its runway is short, so it suits turboprops and light jets. Memmingen (FMM / EDJA) and Stuttgart (STR / EDDS) are the other options, for the Allgäu and for Swabia.

4Can a business jet land at Augsburg Airport?

Yes, within limits. The runway is about 1,280 m, asphalt and grooved, with an ILS on runway 25 only. Turboprops and light jets are the natural users, smaller midsize types need a performance check for the day's weight and temperature, and large or long-range jets go to Munich. The airport is open Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 21:00 and on Sundays and public holidays from 09:00 to 21:00, local time, with chargeable prior permission outside those hours. No slot is needed.

5When should I book a private jet to Augsburg?

Outside the peaks a day or two is usually enough. For Oktoberfest in Munich, the two Plärrer fairs in Augsburg, the Christmas market weekends and the weeks of a large Munich trade fair, allow four to five weeks. The Hohes Friedensfest on 8 August is a public holiday in Augsburg only, so meetings in the town are best kept to the days either side.

6Can I take my dog to Augsburg on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you. Germany asks for a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older with 21 days elapsed, and an Animal Health Certificate issued within ten days of entry. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
