Private jet charter in Skiathos
On Skiathos the runway chooses the aircraft before you do. Private Jets UK plans every charter to the island around that fact. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport has a single asphalt runway of 1,628 m, built on reclaimed land beside a public road, and the biggest airliner it takes is about the size of a Boeing 757-200. For a private passenger that means a light or a midsize jet, a flight of about three hours from the London fields, and a handler who has the parking permission in hand before the aircraft leaves Britain.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Skiathos depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Phenom 300E and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Skiathos?
About three hours and ten minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a Phenom 300E, a little over that from Luton and Farnborough, and close to four hours from Edinburgh or Glasgow in a midsize cabin, with a two-hour clock change on arrival because Greece keeps Eastern European time. The British fields we use lie 1,271 to 1,554 nautical miles from the island, which every light and midsize jet we quote covers without a stop. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Leave Biggin Hill at seven in the morning and the wheels touch the short runway a little after midday local time, because the flight is just over three hours and Greece is two hours ahead of Britain. The terminal is a few kilometres from Skiathos Town, so a car can have you at a harbour table or a villa in time for a late lunch. Count on roughly four and a half hours from a London front door to the island, a little more if the villa is on the far south-west coast at Koukounaries, about 15 km from the airport. The airport keeps published hours rather than round-the-clock ones, so the return leg is planned inside them and a late evening departure is the one that needs a conversation.
Which aircraft the runway really allows
– Light jets are routine. A Phenom 300E, a Citation CJ3+ or a Citation M2 uses less than the runway offers, and a Phenom is the aircraft we quote first for up to six people because it is quick, quiet and cheaper than any midsize cabin;
– Midsize jets are the sensible step up. A Citation XLS+ or a Latitude takes eight or nine people and their luggage, and the cabin is more comfortable for a three-hour leg. A broker directory lists the XLS+ among the usual Skiathos aircraft, and the Latitude performs in the same way;
– The upper limit is a Challenger 350 or a Gulfstream G280, which directories name as the largest types they accept, and then only after the operator has run the performance figures for the day. Heavy jets such as the G450, the larger Falcons or the Global family are listed as subject to review, and we do not quote them into a 1,628 m runway. If the party is that large, we land at Thessaloniki and finish the journey another way.

Onward from Skiathos: the aircraft, the ferry and the helicopter
The islands next door have no jet runway to land on, so the onward leg is decided one place at a time. Skopelos has no airport at all and is reached from Skiathos by sea, in as little as 15 to 30 minutes to Glossa and about an hour to Skopelos Town. Alonissos is just under an hour and a half by the fast Flying Dolphin boats. Athens, at 80 nautical miles, is about 40 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, and Thessaloniki, at 88, about the same. A British operator may not carry passengers between two Greek airports, so those two hops are flown by an operator from the EU, or replaced by a car and a boat.
Before you accept an onward quote from Skiathos
– Who flies the leg. A British-registered aircraft can bring you from London and take you home but cannot fly the Greek leg in between with passengers aboard. We say plainly when the onward sector needs a second operator and quote it as its own line;
– Where the aircraft waits. Skiathos has a small apron, so a jet that cannot stay is positioned away, usually to Thessaloniki, Volos or Athens, and comes back for the pick-up. Planned with the outbound flight it costs little; arranged on the day it costs a good deal.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Skiathos:
Light jets, the natural fit
A runway of 1,628 m is plenty for these aircraft, and a light jet is the cheapest way to arrive. Three hours is a comfortable sit for up to four people and a long one for six, so we ask how much luggage the party carries before we commit to a cabin.
Midsize, for families and groups
The hold fills faster than the seats: children, beach gear, a week of clothes and a pile of bags for the boat. A midsize cabin carries five to eight people through a three-hour leg without complaint and is still well inside what the runway accepts.
Super-midsize, by agreement
Directories name a Challenger 350 or a Gulfstream G280 as the largest cabins that use the airport. We ask the operator for the performance figures for your date and weight, and we tell you at once if they do not work.
Turboprops
Useful for the hops to Athens and Thessaloniki, where the saving over a jet is large, and for pairing with a boat or a helicopter once you are in Greece. Fuel and parking are confirmed before a quote leaves us.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: Volos or Thessaloniki to the island, Skiathos to Skopelos, or a transfer to a villa. A helicopter flight into a Fraport airport also needs its parking permission, and landing sites away from the airport are agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Skiathos is far from the busiest business aviation airports in Greece, so in the summer an aircraft is often positioned from Athens, Thessaloniki or Italy, and the quote may name one of those cities as the starting point. That is normal for a small island airport with almost no based jets, and it is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports for Skiathos
One airport serves the island, and the useful question is whether the aircraft lands there or on the mainland. The other airports below are the parking places, the alternates and the starting points for a boat.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis JSI / LGSK |
The only airport on the island, 54 ft (16 m) above sea level and a few kilometres from Skiathos Town. One asphalt runway of 1,628 m by 30 m, lengthened by 110 m at its northern end, on land reclaimed from the sea and beside a public road. It is run by a joint venture of Fraport and the Copelouzos Group as one of the Fraport Greece regional airports, so every private flight needs a parking permission (PPR) obtained through a licensed handler. Directories list it as an airport of entry with customs and immigration, slots required, handling mandatory and fuel by Jet A-1 only. The airport is not open round the clock |
| Volos, Nea Anchialos VOL / LGBL |
The nearest airport with a long runway, 34 nautical miles from Skiathos across the water. One runway of 2,759 m, joint civil and military, about 25 km south-west of Volos. Directories list it as an airport of entry with customs, slots required and fuel, and Jetset Services as the handler. In the summer it is a coordinated airport and the military base needs its own permission, so night arrivals are by arrangement. From Biggin Hill it is 1,245 nautical miles, which on a Phenom comes out about £300 below Skiathos |
| Thessaloniki Makedonia SKG / LGTS |
The main airport of northern Greece, with a runway of 3,440 m and a second of 2,424 m, a joint civil and military field run by Fraport Greece. Listed as open round the clock with customs and immigration, with Signature and Universal Aviation as the private handlers. It is where a jet too large for the island lands or parks, and where a pet can be cleared into Greece. 88 nautical miles from Skiathos and about 218 km by road from Volos, where the boats leave. On a Phenom from Biggin Hill the price is about £850 below Skiathos |
| Athens Eleftherios Venizelos ATH / LGAV |
Greece's main airport, with two parallel runways of 4,000 m and 3,800 m and a general aviation terminal run by Swissport Executive Aviation, which is listed as open at all hours with customs and immigration. The place for an aircraft that has to wait, and for a party arriving by long-haul jet. 80 nautical miles from Skiathos, a sector that the scheduled Greek airlines also fly |
| Skopelos and Alonissos no jet airfield |
Skopelos has no airport of its own, and Skiathos is the nearest. Neither island is a jet destination: they are reached by Flying Dolphin boat or ferry from Skiathos or Volos, or by helicopter to a site agreed beforehand |
Four points settle most Skiathos arrivals:
Handling and the parking permission
Handling is mandatory and the parking permission is requested through a handler holding a category 1 licence from the Greek civil aviation authority. Directories list Universal Aviation and Signature Aviation at the airport, and Jetset Services through the ExecuJet network. We confirm the handler in writing before the quote, and its fee and the landing charge show as separate lines.
Hours, slots and the small apron
The airport works to a published timetable. The summer one runs from about 07:00 to 23:00, the winter one from about 09:00 to 15:00 on most days, and an extension is possible for an individual flight. Handlers warn of access and parking limits between April and October. Directories list the airport as slot-facilitated at Level 2, with slots and prior permission both required, which the handler obtains. The apron was extended for six airliner stands and fills when holiday flights arrive together, so we ask for an arrival time away from them.
Border and passport
Greece is in the EU and the Schengen area and Britain is in neither, so you clear passport control and customs on the island. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints at the EU entry system, though at busy airports the scanners are sometimes switched off, so follow the officer's instructions.
Car, boat and late nights
Taxis at the airport are limited in the busy weeks, and a driver who is only told "airport" may wait at the wrong end of the building. Give us the villa or the harbour as well as the flight. Fuel stocks are flagged to verify in the directories, so we ask the handler to confirm the uplift for the next sector. Plan a late departure with the car and the boat in one message, because the runway will not wait for dinner.

Landing permits, the Schengen border and the way home
A private flight into Greece does not usually need a separate landing permit. What it needs is the parking permission and the slot, issued through the handler, and the operator has to be licensed for the route. Operators from outside the EU, which since Brexit includes British ones, need a permit from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority for charter flights, applied for at least five working days ahead, and in summer it can take longer. The rule that surprises clients is cabotage: a non-EU operator may fly the UK to Greece and back but may not carry passengers between two Greek airports. London to Thessaloniki to Skiathos on one British charter is therefore ruled out, while London to Skiathos nonstop is allowed, and a trip that needs both airports gets a different plan. We arrange the permits and say plainly when a trip cannot be flown as drawn.
For the flight home, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and any passenger who needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation for the UK must hold it before boarding. British and Irish citizens are exempt. The handler who arranged the arrival files the paperwork for the departure too. Cash worth about £8,500 or more must be declared on entry to the EU.

From the apron to Skiathos Town
Skiathos is a small island with one town, one coast road and a lot of coastline that is easier to reach by water than by land. The runway sits beside the town, the best-known beach is at the opposite end, and the neighbouring islands are a boat ride away.
a few kilometres, the airport is on the edge of the towntypically 10 to 15 minutes

Koukounaries, Lalaria and the beaches by boat
A day on Skiathos is organised around the sea. Most of the famous places are beaches, and the two that clients ask for by name need different handling.
Koukounaries, at the south-western end of the island, is the one with a road. It lies inside a protected area of the EU's Natura network, 88 hectares in all, that protects the Strofylia pine forest behind the beach, and the beach is the last stop of the island's bus route. It is also one of the busiest, with wooden walkways across the sand, beach bars and an excursion-boat harbour, so a party that wants a quiet corner goes early or late. A taxi from the airport takes about 19 minutes for the 15 km, and in the summer weeks it is sensible to book the car in advance because taxis on the island are limited. A helicopter landing here is never assumed, since the area is a protected one.
Lalaria is the other. It is a white-pebble beach on the north coast under steep cliffs, with a natural arch and three sea grottoes just to the east, and it cannot be reached on foot: you arrive by excursion boat from the Old Port. The round-island cruise gives about an hour ashore, passes the beaches of Mandraki, Agia Eleni and Koukounaries without stopping, and also calls at Kastro, the former island capital on its rock. Cruises last 7 to 8 hours and leave in the morning, so a private party that wants the beach without the crowd books a boat of its own and goes while the group boats are still at breakfast. Wind decides the day. The north coast is exposed, and when the summer meltemi blows the boat captain, not the client, chooses the beach.
The rest of the coast is quieter. Tsougria, the islet in the bay of Skiathos Town, has two sand beaches and a taverna and is a short boat ride from the Old Port. On the north coast, Megalos Aselinos is a large, exposed beach, quietest at the end of the day, while Mandraki can be reached on foot from Koukounaries. Yacht flotillas and charters sail from Skiathos in summer, and a party joining a boat is one of the usual reasons for a charter flight here.
Skopelos, Mamma Mia and the marine park of Alonissos
Skiathos is the airport for a small archipelago, and a good share of private clients spend only a day or two on the island itself.
Skopelos is the Mamma Mia island. The chapel of Agios Ioannis in the Kastri area, on a rocky hill reached by about 200 steps, is the wedding chapel of the film and lies about 15 minutes from the village of Glossa. Kastani beach is roughly a 30-minute drive from Skopelos Town, Glysteri beach is among the nearest to town, and Cape Amarandos on the south-west coast has fish tavernas close by. The Old Port of Skiathos appears in the film as the place where the three men try to catch their boat, and a third location, the village of Damouchari, is across the water in Pelion. Skopelos has no airport, so the route is a plane to Skiathos and a fast boat across; some villa packages on Skopelos include the airport taxi and the crossing, and we price the boat as its own line when we quote.
Alonissos is the home of the National Marine Park of the Northern Sporades, the first marine park in Greece and described as the largest marine protected area in Europe, covering more than 2,200 square kilometres. It protects the Mediterranean monk seal, of which roughly a tenth of the world population is said to live here, although sightings are rare and dolphins are the more likely encounter. Boats leave from Patitiri on Alonissos from about ten in the morning and return around half past six, and organised trips also run from Skiathos and Skopelos; they usually stop at Kyra Panagia and last six to eight hours. The core zones are closed to vessels, so the captain decides how close the boat may go, and the excursions run from May to October, with May, June, September and October the quietest.
Villas on Skiathos
Most private clients on Skiathos stay in a villa, and the choice of one decides the journey more than the choice of aircraft does. The island is small, but the main road is a single coastal one, so the south-west end at Koukounaries is further from the runway than it looks on a map. A villa near the town is minutes from the apron, a villa at Koukounaries about 20 minutes, and the harder-to-reach north coast is for a 4x4 or a boat.
Before you take a villa
– Tell us the beach, not just "Skiathos". The airport, the town and the south-west are three different journeys, and the car is booked for the right one;
– Ask about the road. Lanes to villas on the hills can be steep and narrow, and a saloon car may be the wrong answer, so we book the vehicle the owner recommends;
– Check the changeover day. Villas typically turn over on Saturdays and Sundays in the season, and a Friday or Monday arrival is easier to fit around the airline waves at the airport.
Flying to Skiathos with a dog or a cat
Greece asks for a good deal of paperwork, and the flight is long enough for a dog to settle and sleep. The animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold. Two details go wrong most often: the date on the health certificate, which is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU, and the airport at which the animal is allowed to arrive.

What Greece asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:
- An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before the animal travels;
- An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU, and valid for the return as stated on the certificate. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
- No more than five animals per traveller, presented at an authorised point of entry. The Greek foreign ministry's list names Athens and Thessaloniki airports among the border inspection posts, and the island entry points it lists do not include Skiathos;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Skiathos run
– The point of entry. Because Skiathos is not on the official list of animal entry points, the animal normally lands first at Thessaloniki or Athens, where the formalities are done. A British operator cannot then fly you on to the island, so the second stage is an EU operator, or a drive to Volos and the boat. We plan that route before the quote and confirm it in writing;
– The vet at the end. Britain asks for the tapeworm treatment on the way home, and on a stay of five days or less it can be given before you leave Britain, provided the dog lands back within the 24 to 120 hour window. On a longer stay it is an appointment in Skiathos Town or on the mainland, booked towards the end of the week;
– Everything else that has to accept the dog. A villa, a boat, a Flying Dolphin crossing and a helicopter each set their own rules, and a helicopter operator counts the animal's weight in the payload. Settle all of them before the quote.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Skiathos calendar: a short summer and a quiet winter
Skiathos has a clear season. From June to September the island is busy, the sea is warm and the airport works long days; the rest of the year it keeps a short timetable, the boats thin out and the choice of week matters more than the choice of aircraft.
Why the summer weekends cost more
Not the distance. The light and midsize fleet in Europe is large and Skiathos is within reach of all of it. What gets tight is the apron and the slot at a small airport that also receives holiday flights from Britain, which is its largest market, and the villa and the boat for the same days. Because the aircraft often cannot stay, a weekend can mean two separate flights for the operator, one in and one out, with the jet parked at Volos or Thessaloniki or flying empty in between, and that is paid for. A booking made a fortnight before an August Saturday can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Athens or Italy. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. In winter the airport is far quieter and a charter can usually be arranged within a day or two, provided the schedule fits the hours.
Ways to bring the Skiathos price down
- Move the dates out of July and August where you can. The second half of September is warm, dry and noticeably easier to arrange;
- Avoid the weekend changeover days when the choice is yours. A Tuesday or a Wednesday arrival is usually easier for the apron and for the villa;
- Compare the airports. On the same Phenom from Biggin Hill, Thessaloniki is priced about £850 lower than Skiathos and Volos about £300 lower, but you then take a car and the boat, or a helicopter, so let the place you are sleeping decide.
Types of flights
Skiathos produces a different mix from the cities we cover, because people go there for the sea and the beaches, not for meetings. Almost everything is leisure, and almost everything is short on the ground.
- Villa weeks for families and friends, usually flown out at the weekend or midweek and back a week later;
- Yacht handovers and sailing holidays, joining a boat at Skiathos or Volos with soft bags and a fixed date;
- Island hopping to Skopelos for the Mamma Mia locations, and to Alonissos for the marine park, by Flying Dolphin from the Old Port;
- Day trips on a private boat to Lalaria, Kastro and Tsougria, with a car at the harbour;
- Pelion and Volos combinations, landing at Volos and finishing the journey by boat or by road;
- Connections through Thessaloniki, for a party or a pet that has to clear Greece at an airport with a border post.
A same-day return is the one pattern that does not work. The sector alone is over three hours each way, the apron is small, and the airport closes in the evening, so the aircraft cannot wait for you. A short stay is therefore planned as two separate one-way flights, and we quote it that way, so the figure you see is the one you pay.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Skiathos route the aircraft that cannot stay on the apron produce a steady supply of them, and it helps to know where they come from.
Where Skiathos empty legs come from
– Every drop-and-go. An aircraft that has brought a party to the island leaves empty to a parking airport on the mainland, and the leg that follows to Athens, Thessaloniki or Italy is the one most often offered;
– The start and the end of the season. In May and again in September and October operators move light and midsize jets between Britain and the Aegean, and a one-way repositioning flight can appear on either side of a charter week;
– Villa changeover days. A group typically leaves on a Saturday or Sunday and the aircraft that brought the next group goes home empty, which produces northbound legs to the London fields and further.
Because the corridor is far thinner in winter than in the peak, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Skiathos match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In the Sporades a helicopter competes with a boat for the same job, which is the stretch between a runway and a place that has none. The routes that matter are Volos or Thessaloniki to the island, Skiathos to Skopelos and a transfer between the airport and a villa on the far side of the island, and the weather decides which of them a helicopter wins.
34 nautical miles in a straight line, against about 1.5 hours on the Flying Dolphin from the port of Volosabout 25 minutes
88 nautical miles, for a party that has cleared Greece at Thessalonikiabout 55 minutes
80 nautical miles, against the scheduled flight or a long drive and a ferryabout 50 minutes
a short hop across the channel to an island with no airport, against the fast boatabout 15 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A flight into a Fraport airport needs the same parking permission as a jet, and a landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent. Koukounaries and the marine park are protected areas, so we check the site before the quote is written, not after it;
– Weight and weather set the schedule. The payload for a private charter is commonly 400 to 500 kg including luggage, and the summer meltemi can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so an island transfer needs a boat or road alternative planned into the same day;
– Book early. In the peak months helicopter seats can sell out, and the operator needs the booking days ahead, not hours.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for island and coastal work, the wider H130 for villa and harbour transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Skiathos charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
VILLA WEEK · THE APRON SET THE TERMS
Six friends for a week in July
Southampton - Skiathos, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 25 min · 6 pax
Everyone wanted the same Saturday, so the parking permission and the slot request went in with the first message. The aircraft dropped the party and flew on to park at Thessaloniki, then came back for the pick-up a week later. The villa, the car and the handler's fee were part of the same quote, and the client was told about all of them at once.
A BOAT AT THE END · SOFT BAGS AND A FIXED DATE
Eight people to join a sailing holiday
London Luton - Skiathos, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 25 min · 8 pax
The handover date was set by the charter company, not by the client. Eight people, sailing bags, a case of provisions and a driver to take the party from the terminal to the marina. The booking went in six weeks ahead, and the crew flew home with the aircraft rather than waiting.
MAMMA MIA · SKOPELOS BY THE DAY
Five people, a jet to Skiathos and a boat on
Farnborough - Skiathos, Phenom 300E, about 3 h 15 min · 5 pax
The party came for the film locations on Skopelos. The jet landed in the middle of the day, a car took them to the Old Port and a Flying Dolphin crossed to Glossa, with the chapel of Agios Ioannis and Kastani beach as the plan for the next morning. The boat was priced as its own line, and a car waited at Skopelos Town for the evening.
A JUNE WEEK · A DOG ON BOARD
Four adults and a labrador on the island
Southampton - Thessaloniki - Skiathos, Citation XLS+ and a road and boat transfer · 4 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and Skiathos is not an entry point for animals, so the jet landed at Thessaloniki, where the dog was cleared, and the party drove to Volos for the boat. The vet appointment for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. The villa accepted the dog, and everything was settled in one exchange of messages.
A SEPTEMBER WEEK · THE QUIET MONTH
A couple and friends, a fortnight after the crowds
Farnborough - Skiathos, Phenom 300E, about 3 h 15 min · 4 pax
They moved the dates from August to the second half of September and found aircraft easier to get, a calmer sea and a lower figure. The slot was still required and the apron was still small, but the pressure was gone and the departure was timed for the afternoon.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY AFTERNOON WEST
A jet already going your way
Skiathos - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 3 h 15 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a family in for the week and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday afternoon departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Skiathos
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Skiathos?
About 3 hours 10 minutes from London City and Biggin Hill in a Phenom 300E, and around 3 hours 15 minutes from Farnborough or Luton, covering roughly 1,271 to 1,301 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 3 hours 30 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 3 hours 50 minutes. Greece is two hours ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands a little after midday local time.
2How much does a private jet to Skiathos cost?
From about £16,500 one way on a Phenom 300E out of Biggin Hill, £16,550 from London City, and £16,800 to £16,850 from Farnborough or Luton. A midsize cabin runs £21,050 to £21,900 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £29,750 to £30,300. July, August and the summer weekends can price above these figures, and handling and the parking permission are quoted as separate lines.
3Which private jets can land at Skiathos?
The runway is a single asphalt strip of 1,628 m by 30 m, and the biggest airliner that uses the airport is about the size of a Boeing 757-200. Light and midsize jets such as the Phenom 300E, the Citation CJ3+, the Citation XLS+ and the Latitude are routine. A Challenger 350 or a Gulfstream G280 is the upper end and needs the operator to check the performance for the day, and heavy jets are listed as subject to review. Larger aircraft land at Thessaloniki or Athens instead.
4Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Skiathos?
Britain is outside the EU and Schengen and Greece is inside both, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival. The airport is listed as an airport of entry with customs, but it is not open round the clock, so the arrival is timed inside its published hours. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A British operator needs a permit from the Greek civil aviation authority for charter flights and cannot carry passengers between two Greek airports. The operator and our team handle the aircraft paperwork, including the permits and the slot.
5Can I fly on from Skiathos to Skopelos, Alonissos or Volos?
Skopelos has no airport, so you take the Flying Dolphin from Skiathos, which takes about 15 to 30 minutes to Glossa and about an hour to Skopelos Town. Alonissos is just under an hour and a half by the same boats and is the base for the marine park, where boat trips run from May to October. The mainland port of Volos is about 1.5 hours away by Flying Dolphin, and about 25 minutes by helicopter, while Volos airport at Nea Anchialos is the nearest alternative for a jet.
6Can I take my dog to Skiathos on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Greece asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry and valid for the return as stated on the certificate. A British pet passport cannot be used. Skiathos does not appear among the island entry points on the Greek foreign ministry's list, so the dog is normally cleared at Thessaloniki or Athens first, and we confirm the route in writing. A dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
