Two things worth knowing about these sectors
– On flights under an hour, such as Tivat or Vienna, the fixed costs of the trip weigh more than the flying time, so the total sits above a simple hourly-rate calculation. The upside is that a turboprop or a very light jet does the job as well as anything larger;
– The Montenegro and Greek legs are strongly seasonal. Aircraft repositioning between Tivat, Athens and Belgrade in July and August throw off one-way empty legs more often than any other route in the region, and they are the cheapest way to fly this corner of Europe if your dates can move a day.

Business aviation airports in Belgrade
Belgrade is served by a single airport, and it happens to be in the best shape of its life. Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG / LYBE), 18 km west of the city centre, has just come out of the largest modernisation in its history: under the 25-year Vinci concession more than 730 million euros went into a new 3,500 m runway with low-visibility landing systems, the first full reconstruction of the original runway in 60 years, and a terminal extended by 40,000 square metres. There are no separate business aviation airfields around the city, and none are needed: private traffic uses its own handling channel at BEG and never touches the passenger terminal queues.
Business aviation at BEG runs through dedicated handlers rather than the main terminal: Euro Jet keeps an airside office with a private crew lounge, Clearway OPS provides VIP passenger and ramp handling, and the airport is home base for Prince Aviation, the oldest private charter operator in the Balkans, whose recently opened hangar, described as the most advanced in the region, holds up to nine business jets. In practice this means arriving 30 minutes before departure, a car to the aircraft, and border formalities measured in minutes. The most frequently chartered types at Belgrade are exactly the aircraft in our price list above: the Citation XLS and the smaller CJ-series.
Belgrade before EXPO 2027: book the dates early
From 15 May to 15 August 2027 Belgrade hosts the Specialised Expo, the first world exposition in the region, with more than 130 countries and millions of visitors expected. The venue is being built in Surčin, directly beside Nikola Tesla Airport, which makes a private jet the shortest possible door-to-door route to the site, and it also means slots and parking for those 93 days will be the scarcest in the airport’s history. For Expo-week travel we recommend booking six to eight weeks ahead.
Serbia sits outside the Schengen area and runs its own border control, which at the business aviation channel works in your favour: UK passport holders enter visa-free for short stays, and the checks happen next to the aircraft. Beyond the city itself, with the Sava-Danube waterfront district and one of Europe’s liveliest dining scenes, clients fly to Belgrade for Novi Sad an hour up the motorway and for onward transfers to the Kopaonik and Zlatibor mountain resorts in winter.
Flying to Belgrade with a dog or a cat
Serbia is an easy country to arrive in with an animal and a demanding one to leave, and the asymmetry catches out more British owners than any other detail on this route. The outbound paperwork is modest. The return is where the planning has to start, ideally months before anyone books a jet.
The one fact to read before you book
Serbia is not on the list of countries from which pets may re-enter Great Britain under the ordinary rules. Coming home from an unlisted country normally means a rabies antibody blood test taken at least 30 days after vaccination, followed by a three-month wait before the animal may enter Britain. The way around it is simple but has to be done in the right order: have the blood test carried out by your vet in Britain, before you leave. A test taken here stays valid for the return provided the rabies cover never lapses, and the three-month wait does not apply. Owners who discover this rule in Belgrade rather than in London are the ones who end up flying home without the dog.
For the outbound leg into Serbia the requirements are close to the EU pattern, and a British vet will recognise all of them:
- An ISO 11784/11785 microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination rather than after it. The order matters: a vaccination given to an unchipped animal does not count;
- A valid rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before entry, with the animal at least 12 weeks old on the day of vaccination;
- An export health certificate for Serbia, issued and signed by an Official Veterinarian in the UK. Defra runs a dedicated certificate for this route, 3567EHC, which covers dogs, cats and ferrets;
- A clinical examination shortly before departure, and for dogs an internal parasite treatment recorded with the product name and date. Serbian border veterinary inspection checks these entries, so an undated line in the passport is the same as no treatment at all;
- Five animals maximum per owner, travelling as a non-commercial movement with the owner named on every document. A courier or driver listed instead of the owner is a common reason for refusal.
Cats have it slightly easier than dogs in one respect: the tapeworm treatment that British owners diarise for dogs is a dogs-only rule, and it belongs to the return into Britain, not to the arrival in Serbia. Dogs need it administered between 24 and 120 hours before landing back in the UK, by a vet in Serbia, recorded with date and product.
Is there a vet at Belgrade airport?
Serbia runs a border veterinary inspection service under the Veterinary Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, and animals arriving or leaving through Nikola Tesla Airport pass through its check. We give the service advance notice of the flight and tell the handling agent that an animal is on board, so the inspection is expected rather than improvised. For the treatment and paperwork needed before the flight home we book a Belgrade clinic as part of the arrangements, and our managers confirm the veterinary cover available for your specific date and time. On a private flight the check itself happens at the general aviation facility rather than in the passenger terminal, and it takes minutes when the documents are in order.
Two practical notes for the cabin. A Serbian trip from Britain is roughly two hours, short enough that most dogs sleep through it and most cats never leave the carrier, and there is no weight limit on a charter: a mastiff and a kitten pay the same fare, which is none. And plan the return treatment before you go: finding an English-speaking vet in Belgrade at short notice on a Sunday is possible but not restful. During the document check we raised the point that decides these trips: Serbia is unlisted for pet entry into Britain, so the return needs a rabies antibody test with a three-month wait unless the sample is drawn before departure. Their vet in Hertfordshire took the blood in April, the result came back clean, and the labrador flew home in late August on the same paperwork. Had the question surfaced in July, the dog would have stayed in Belgrade until autumn.
