Private jet charter in Burundi
Burundi lies about 3,752 nautical miles from London, which puts it at the very edge of what an Embraer Praetor 600 can fly without stopping, and anything lighter needs fuel stops on the way. A landing permit, a visa that British passengers arrange before they fly, a yellow fever certificate and a Foreign Office list of areas to avoid shape the trip just as much as the aircraft does. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Services around Bujumbura are thin, and we say plainly what we can arrange.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Burundi depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Praetor 600 to Bujumbura, nonstop, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Burundi?
Burundi keeps Central Africa Time all year, two hours ahead of Britain in winter and one hour ahead in summer. These are the sectors to Bujumbura, gate to gate, on a Praetor 600 where it can fly them and on a Global 6000 where it cannot comfortably:
3,752 nautical miles, the closest of the London fields that suit a long sector, and the basis for the price at the top of the pageabout 8 h 40 min
3,767 nautical miles, the usual choice for Surrey, Hampshire and the Thames Valleyabout 8 h 45 min
3,906 nautical miles, the main departure for the north of England, flown on a larger aircraft for marginabout 8 h 20 min on a Global 6000
4,060 nautical miles, the main Scottish departure, beyond the Praetor's range and flown on a larger aircraftabout 8 h 40 min on a Global 6000
Why the aircraft decides the plan
The Praetor 600 is quoted at roughly 4,000 nautical miles of range, and the sector from London is a little over 3,700. That leaves a modest reserve, so a strong headwind can turn a nonstop plan into a short stop. A Challenger 605, a Falcon 900LX or a Global 6000 flies the sector with more margin, and the larger the aircraft the less the weather matters.
A light jet such as the Phenom 300E and a midsize jet such as the Citation XLS+ have ranges of about 2,000 nautical miles, so they fly in stages, typically two stops, each adding an hour or more. The stops depend on permits along the route, so we price those on request.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– The step from a Praetor 600 to a Challenger 605 on the same departure from Biggin Hill is about £16,500, and to a Global 6000 about £43,400. On a sector this long the aircraft changes the price far more than the departure airfield does;
– A one-way price assumes the aircraft flies home empty. For a stay of several days the aircraft either waits at Bujumbura, with parking and the crew's hotel as lines of their own, or flies back and returns for you. Permits, handling and fuel are quoted separately, and that is where two quotes for the same trip usually differ.
Private jet flights within Burundi and to its neighbours
Burundi is small. Gitega, the political capital, is only 37 nautical miles from Bujumbura in a straight line, and we know of no airfield there that takes passenger charters, so internal flights are not a product we sell. The sectors we are asked for are the ones to the neighbouring capitals:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bujumbura - Kigali (Rwanda) 99 nm / 183 km |
Pilatus PC-12 NGX up to 9 |
about 50 min | from £3,100 |
| Bujumbura - Entebbe (Uganda) 287 nm / 532 km |
Citation XLS+ up to 9 |
about 1 h 10 min | from £6,800 |
| Bujumbura - Nairobi (Kenya) 491 nm / 909 km |
Citation XLS+ up to 9 |
about 1 h 40 min | from £9,250 |
| Bujumbura - Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) 653 nm / 1,209 km |
Citation XLS+ up to 9 |
about 2 h | from £11,600 |
Domestic sectors and the neighbours
– Between Bujumbura and Gitega the road is the practical answer. A British aircraft does not usually carry passengers between two points inside one country, and the grass strip listed at Gitega is not a place we plan passenger arrivals;
– Each neighbour is a separate country with its own permits and entry rules. The Foreign Office reports the land border with Rwanda as closed, so we do not assume anything about a Kigali sector until the permits and routing are confirmed in writing.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Burundi:
Turboprops
For the hops to Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, never for the journey from London.
Light and midsize jets
These fly to Bujumbura in stages and suit three or four people with soft bags.
Super-midsize
The Praetor 600 is the smallest aircraft that reaches Bujumbura from London in one hop and sets the entry price.
Heavy jets
For a delegation or a family with staff, with more range in hand than the Praetor.
Ultra-long range
The comfortable way to cover 3,700 nautical miles, carrying up to 16 people.

Business aviation airports in Burundi
Burundi has one international airport, and every charter from Britain lands there. We found no other airfield with a published customs status, runway data for jets or a handler, so the list is short:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Bujumbura Melchior Ndadaye International BJM / HBBA |
about 8 km north-north-west of the centre of Bujumbura, on the northern shore of Lake Tanganyika | The main asphalt runway, 17/35, is 3,600 metres (11,811 feet), at an elevation of 2,582 feet (787 metres). Listed as open round the clock with the tower staffed 24 hours, customs and airport of entry status, jet fuel and rescue and fire category 7. Slots are listed as not required and handling as not mandatory, but we use a handler on every trip |
| Gitega GID / HBBE |
on a low ridge in the north-west of Gitega, the political capital | One grass runway of 990 metres, 12/30. We found no customs status, fuel or handler for it, so we do not plan passenger arrivals there and a party for Gitega arrives at Bujumbura and drives |
Bujumbura has no business aviation terminal that we can name and describe. A flight-support directory lists Jetmate Aviation and Hadid International Services as supervising agents, with Hadid for fuel only, and names Jet Business Solutions, Avior and International Flight Planning Solutions as flight-support organisations. We pick the handler and confirm in writing where the party is processed and what the terminal offers on the day.
Reports describe a rehabilitation of the runways, taxiways and aprons at the airport, together with a new control tower and administration building. Works like these can bring closures, restricted parking or night work, so we read the notices to aircrew for the dates of the flight before we confirm the schedule.
Three points settle most Burundian arrivals before a quote goes out:
Permit: ask early
Operator guides recommend 24 to 48 working hours for a standard request, and earlier for anything unusual. The Burundi Civil Aviation Authority is named in the guide we used, and the conditions on the issued approval apply as written. Fees are not published, so we confirm them for each flight.
Papers for the permit
Registration and type, operator and callsign, the schedule, the route with the FIR entry and exit points, the purpose of the flight, insurance, and crew and passenger details. Certificates of registration and airworthiness are requested on some trips.
Changes need a new approval
A change of registration, callsign, aircraft type, date, time or routing can mean the permit is reconfirmed or amended, so we fix the aircraft before we apply.
Arriving from Britain: visa, yellow fever and the Foreign Office advice
British passengers cannot simply turn up with a passport. Burundi requires a visa, a health certificate and, for the aircraft, a permit.
British citizens need a visa. The Foreign Office says to apply online through the Burundian immigration site before travelling, to complete the airport entry visa application that produces a validation certificate, and that the visa is issued on arrival. A one-month visa costs 90 US dollars, about £70arrange before you fly
valid for at least six months after the date of arrival, with at least one blank page, and not reported lost or stolencheck the expiry
a certificate proving yellow fever vaccination must be presentedbring the certificate
The Foreign Office advice, as published
The Foreign Office advises against all travel to parts of Burundi. In Bujumbura Province these are the communes of Mugina, Cibitoke, Bukinyayana, Bubanza and Mpanda, the RN5 road north of the airport towards Cibitoke, and the area west of the Rusizi river towards the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including Rusizi National Park. In Butanyerera Province the advice covers the main RN6 and RN10 roads west from Kayanza through Kibira National Park towards Cibitoke. It cites a rebel group and possible armed incursions from the DRC, and warns that travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against its advice.
It adds that armed group activity along the border with the DRC has increased, and that flights are the main way out of the country. Bujumbura itself, Gitega and the road between them are not in the list. Anyone going should read the full text first.
Clearance and the way home
On arrival, passengers and crew clear immigration and customs at Bujumbura, which is listed as an airport of entry. The Foreign Office page does not describe private aircraft arrivals, and we found no published rule for crew visas, so the handler confirms both in writing. The Foreign Office warns that Burundi has strict rules on goods coming in or out, and anything that may be prohibited or taxed should be declared. The page gives no currency limit.
Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation. Passengers who hold another passport should check their own entry rules before they fly. Health advice, including malaria, is on the TravelHealthPro page for Burundi.

Which airport for which part of Burundi
The answer is Bujumbura for everything, with the places below reached from it:
the economic capital, the largest city and the port on Lake TanganyikaBujumbura
the political capital, about 37 nautical miles from Bujumbura in a straight line, on a plateau at 1,504 metresBujumbura, then by road
the beaches of the lake in and around BujumburaBujumbura
in the north-east of the country, away from the areas the Foreign Office listsBujumbura, then a local arrangement
national parks inside the areas the Foreign Office advises againstnot arranged
Bujumbura and Gitega: what our clients go for
Official and business visits decide most trips. Bujumbura is the economic capital and its port is the largest on Lake Tanganyika, handling about 80 percent of the country's external trade, mostly coffee, cotton and tin ore. Parliament voted to restore Gitega as the political capital, with the government moving over time, so a delegation often has meetings in both cities and spends the day on the road between them.
A visitor with free time has the lake, the Livingstone-Stanley monument at Mugere, the Burundi Museum of Life and the Geological Museum in Bujumbura, and the National Museum in Gitega. Tourist accommodation and transport are limited, so we check the plan first.
The Burundian year: the wet months and the dry ones
The climate at Bujumbura is tropical savanna and hot, with little change through the year. Daily highs sit near 29 degrees and lows near 19, and annual rainfall is about 935 millimetres:
the wet season, when road transfers can take longerwet
the drier months, and the easier window for road trips to Gitega and the north-eastdry
Gitega stands more than 700 metres above the lake, so it is cooler than the shore.
The Burundian calendar: public holidays and the dry window
Few dates drive a flight plan to Burundi, and we list the ones that affect permits and offices:
What a holiday does to a flight plan
Public holidays can close government offices, and permit offices do not publish their hours. We apply early for a trip near any of these dates, and we do not book a landing for the day itself without written confirmation that someone is available.

Flying to Burundi with a dog or a cat
A pet can travel in the cabin, but the papers take planning.
The facts to read before you book
A pet-travel guide for Burundi says that dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies between 30 days and 12 months before entry, that multi-year rabies vaccines are not recognised, and that an import permit is not required for a personal pet. A licensed vet issues a health certificate very shortly before travel, and a government vet endorses it. A microchip is not mandatory but is strongly recommended, and pets that meet the rules are not quarantined.
The same guide says pets must enter through Bujumbura airport. We found no official Burundian text, so we obtain the requirements in writing before the aircraft is confirmed.
- A microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, which Britain requires for the way home even though Burundi does not;
- A health certificate from a British vet issued shortly before departure, endorsed by a government vet.
Coming home, a pet from a country outside the simple British scheme, as we understand Burundi to be, needs a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, then a rabies blood test taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, and a wait of three months from the date of the sample before the animal travels. The wait is not required if the animal was vaccinated and blood-tested, with a British health certificate or an EU pet passport, before it left, which is why we ask owners to do the tests before the outward flight. A dog must also be treated against tapeworm by a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before landing in Britain. No more than five animals may travel with one person, and an animal that arrives without the right paperwork can be held in quarantine for up to four months.
We confirm in writing which entry point will receive the animal and which papers are needed. Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species are set out in our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On a route this long they are rare, and we do not promise one.
Where Burundian empty legs come from
– A charter that lands in Bujumbura and does not wait: the aircraft returns to Europe empty, and the leg home is the one most often offered;
– Aircraft repositioned from East Africa after a contract in Nairobi, Entebbe or Dar es Salaam.
Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Burundian empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burundi (Bujumbura) - UK (London Biggin Hill) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £24,800 |
| UK (London Luton) - Burundi (Bujumbura) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £25,050 |
| Burundi (Bujumbura) - UK (Bristol) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £32,300 |
| Burundi (Bujumbura) - UK (Birmingham) | Challenger 605 | 12 seats | £32,550 |
| UK (Farnborough) - Burundi (Bujumbura) | Falcon 900LX | 12 seats | £39,550 |
| UK (Manchester) - Burundi (Bujumbura) | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £44,750 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Praetor 600 from Luton to Bujumbura with nine aboard works out at about £2,800 a seat, and with four aboard about £6,250.

Helicopter charter
We found no helicopter operator in Burundi that we can name and verify, so we confirm the machine, the crew and each landing site when the request comes in; a helicopter carrying passengers between two Burundian places is normally a Burundian one. The one transfer that comes up is the hop to the political capital:
in place of the road up from the lake, which climbs to a plateau at about 1,500 metresabout 25 min
The time is a straight-line estimate at a cruise of about 115 knots, and daylight is the limit.

Flights from the UK to Burundi
Biggin Hill and Farnborough are the south-east airfields best suited to a long sector, with Luton, Gatwick, Stansted and London City as the other London options. Manchester is 154 nautical miles further from Bujumbura than Biggin Hill, and from there we propose a larger aircraft with more range in hand. The table below lists the British airports we work with:

Frequently asked questions about flying to Burundi
1How long does it take to fly to Burundi by private jet?
About 8 hours 40 minutes from London Biggin Hill to Bujumbura on a Praetor 600, if the winds allow it to fly nonstop. A light or midsize jet needs about two fuel stops on the way and takes several hours longer.
2How much does a private jet to Burundi cost?
From about £59,100 one way from Biggin Hill to Bujumbura on a Praetor 600. A Challenger 605 on the same departure is about £75,600, and from Edinburgh a Global 6000 is about £110,550. Bujumbura to Entebbe starts from £3,950 on a turboprop.
3Which airport do private jets use in Burundi?
Bujumbura Melchior Ndadaye International (BJM / HBBA), about 8 km from the centre. It is listed open round the clock with customs, a 3,600 metre runway and jet fuel. Gitega has a short grass strip that we do not use for passengers.
4Do British passengers need a visa for a private flight to Burundi?
Yes. The Foreign Office says British citizens need a visa, applied for online before travel and issued on arrival, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. The aircraft also needs a landing permit, typically requested 24 to 48 working hours ahead.
5What does the Foreign Office advise about travel to Burundi?
It advises against all travel to parts of Bujumbura Province, including the RN5 road north of the airport and Rusizi National Park, and to the roads through Kibira National Park, because of a rebel group and possible armed incursions from the DRC. Bujumbura, Gitega and the road between them are not in the list.
6Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Burundi?
Yes, with planning. A pet-travel guide says the rabies vaccination must fall between 30 days and 12 months before entry and the health certificate is endorsed by a government vet. The return follows the British rules for countries outside the simple scheme, including a rabies blood test.
