Private jet charter in Girona
From the London airfields it is a flight of about 1 hour 50 minutes to Girona, and that makes it the quickest way into the Costa Brava, the Dalí country and the old city of flowers without first crossing Barcelona. Private Jets UK builds the charter around a small airport that does more than its size suggests. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Girona-Costa Brava has one runway of 2,400 m, is listed as open round the clock, and stands about 74 km north of central Barcelona, which makes it the practical choice whenever the programme lies on the northern half of the coast. The decisions that matter are the handler, the slot request and which end of the coast you are heading for.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Girona depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Girona (GRO)?
Close to two hours is the figure to hold in mind: 1 hour 50 minutes from Biggin Hill, Farnborough and London City in a light jet, a few minutes more from the Midlands and the north, and 2 hours 25 minutes from Glasgow in a super-midsize. Spain is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands shortly before ten by the local clock. At 600 to 920 nautical miles from the British fields we use, Girona is a light-jet sector from the south of England and a midsize job from the Midlands and the north. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Leave Biggin Hill at seven and you touch down at Girona a little before ten local time. The airfield lies about 12.5 km south-west of the city, beside the village of Vilobí d'Onyar, so the old town is a quarter of an hour away by car and the coves of the Costa Brava about an hour. The airport is listed as open round the clock, with customs and immigration during airport hours, and the handlers on the field keep lounges of their own, so a party that lands at an awkward hour is not left at the gate. A client who left a London office at half past six can be at a lunch table in the Empordà before one.
Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route
– Up to four people with ordinary bags, take a light jet. A flight of 1 hour 50 minutes in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is an easy sector, and what you save against a midsize cabin pays for the car and a better room;
– Five to seven, or a party with golf bags, bike boxes or the luggage of a fortnight on the coast, we quote a midsize alongside so that you see both figures. On this route the hold often decides before the seat count does;
– A heavy jet earns its place when the party is large, when the same aircraft stays with you across several stops, or when Girona is the first leg of a longer trip. The runway of 2,400 m takes almost anything, but an aircraft of code E, the widest class, needs the airport's clearance in advance and is limited to a single stand, so those types are agreed with the handler first.

Onward from Girona: when the aircraft wins and when the road does
Barcelona is 50 nautical miles from Girona, about 30 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, but the ground is the usual answer there: the high-speed train from Girona to Barcelona takes about 37 minutes and the airport bus about 75, so a flight to El Prat pays only when the party is large or the next leg leaves from the same ramp. Perpignan is 52 nautical miles away across the French border, about 35 minutes. The islands are where the aircraft earns its keep: Palma is 147 nautical miles, about 55 minutes, and Ibiza 200, about 1 h 05 min. A PC-12 to Barcelona, Perpignan, Palma or Ibiza is quoted at the same £3,100, because short sectors are billed against a minimum, and that is why a flight of half an hour can cost as much as one of an hour. Spain and France are both in the Schengen area, so the first landing carries the formalities and the hops after it are free of passport control.
Before you accept an onward quote
– Which airport at the far end, and what it can do for you. Barcelona wants a slot for every movement and allows departures no tolerance at all, the island airports are busy in July and August, and handling and parking are checked before the quote is written, not after it;
– Whether the legs are one booking. Girona to Palma to Valencia and home over a long weekend costs noticeably less arranged as one trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of returning to base between stops.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Girona:
Light jets, the usual choice for four or five people
At close to two hours this is a straightforward sector for a small party with ordinary luggage. Nothing here lacks the range, so the money is better spent on the car and the hotel than on a larger cabin you will not fill.
Midsize, for six to eight people and the bulky luggage
Golf bags, bike boxes and the baggage of a family on a summer house stay fill a hold faster than they fill seats, and the northern departures add enough distance to favour the larger aircraft.
Super-midsize and large
For a team that wants to work in the air, a group travelling as one party, or a trip that carries on from Girona to the islands or the Alps. The runway takes all of these, and only the widest types need the airport's clearance first.
Turboprops
The right aircraft for the hops along the Catalan coast, across the French border and out to the Balearics: Barcelona, Perpignan, Palma and Ibiza are about an hour or less in the air, and the saving over a jet on those distances is large.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a villa above the coves, a transfer to Tossa de Mar or Cadaqués, or a loop over the Cap de Creus peninsula. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Girona lies close to Barcelona, where the traffic is heavier, so there is often an aircraft within an hour of the airport, and a quote may name Barcelona, Reus or Perpignan as the positioning point. That is normal for a regional field with a small based fleet, and it is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Girona
One airport carries most trips to this part of Catalonia, and four more matter when the programme leaves the coast, the aircraft is too large or the party is coming from the French side. Which one is right depends on where the meeting is, not on the aircraft.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Girona-Costa Brava GRO / LEGE |
The answer for the Costa Brava, the Dalí triangle, Girona itself and the Empordà. About 12.5 km south-west of Girona, beside the village of Vilobí d'Onyar and 143 m above sea level, with a single asphalt runway, 01/19, of 2,400 m by 45 m. Runway 19 is cleared for Category II and III approaches, subject to the operator's minima, and fuel is Jet A-1 and 100LL. The airport is listed as open round the clock, with customs and immigration during airport hours. Handling is compulsory for every flight, private ones included, and is done by a general aviation handler on the field. De-icing is available at the parking position through the handler |
| Barcelona El Prat BCN / LEBL |
The big alternative, about 15 km south-west of Barcelona and about 88 km from Girona airport in a straight line. Three runways of 3,743 m, 2,660 m and 2,528 m, a general aviation terminal with customs and immigration on site round the clock and room for about forty business aircraft, and no night curfew for aircraft that meet the Stage 3 noise standard. Every movement needs a slot, departures have no tolerance, and the airport is the right choice for Barcelona itself, for Montmeló and for the trade fairs. For the northern Costa Brava it adds the better part of two hours on the road |
| Perpignan-Rivesaltes PGF / LFMP |
The French option, 2 NM north-west of Perpignan, with a runway of 2,500 m by 45 m (15/33) and an ILS on runway 33. It lies about 93 km from Girona in a straight line, across the border, and suits a programme that continues into Roussillon. For a flight from Britain customs is open from 08:00 to 20:00 local time, and because Britain is outside Schengen the aircraft parks on the commercial apron after a request made 24 hours ahead on weekdays and 48 hours at weekends. Jets are not accepted on the north general aviation apron, and the tower closes in the evening, so this is a daytime alternative |
| Reus REU / LERS |
The southern alternative, about 103 km south-west of Barcelona, with a runway of 2,459 m by 45 m and an ILS on runway 25. It serves Tarragona, the Costa Daurada and PortAventura and lies about 157 km from Girona in a straight line, so it is no substitute for Girona. Business flights need clearance from the airport's coordination office in advance, and the published hours run from 08:00 to midnight in summer and to 22:00 in winter, local time |
| Sabadell LELL |
A flying-club and general aviation field about 20 km from Barcelona, with a single runway of 1,049 m whose declared distances are only 899 m, open in daylight hours. It appears in lists of Barcelona airfields, but traffic from outside the Schengen area is not allowed, so a charter from Britain cannot land there. It is a field for light aircraft hopping within Schengen, and not an option for the flight from London |
Four things to settle before a Girona landing:
The handler and its services
Handling is compulsory at Girona for every operation except aircraft based on the field, and arriving passengers and crew wait for the handler. The airport's published data names six general aviation handlers: Centervol, ExecuJet, General Aviation Service, SkyValet, United Aviation Services and Universal Aviation, with Aviapartner and South Handling on the commercial side. We pick one by what the aircraft needs: a lounge for the party, crew rest, catering, a car at the door. Fuel is Jet A-1 or 100LL.
Hours, slots and permits
The airport is listed as open round the clock. Business and general aviation traffic is subject to declared capacity, and a slot request must reach the airport's coordination office three hours ahead, naming the aircraft type, registration, operator, handler, the two airfields and the times. A flight without clearance is not accepted. We file the request with the handler, and in July and August we send it a good deal earlier than the minimum.
Border and passport
Spain is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival at Girona. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked to register a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system, which is free.
Car and late nights
Tell us the handler as well as the flight, so that the driver waits at the right door. A night arrival is possible because the airport is listed as open round the clock, but handling and customs are confirmed in writing for the hour, and the drive to the coves takes an hour or more, so the hotel should expect you.

Border, passport and the road into France
The first landing in the Schengen area is where the formalities happen, and Girona is a quiet place for them: customs and immigration are on the airfield, and the handler knows the aircraft in advance. After that the border is invisible. Spain and France are both Schengen members, so a flight on to Perpignan or Nice needs no further passport control, and the drive north over the Pyrenean foothills is the same, although temporary checks can be reintroduced at internal borders and a car can still be stopped for a document check. Perpignan lies about 60 km from Figueres on the French side. For the return, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure. Carry your passport at hotel check-in, and keep the aircraft paperwork with the crew.

From the apron to the Costa Brava
Girona stands a short way inland from the coast, with the plain of the Empordà to the north and the Pyrenees beyond it. The Costa Brava is usually taken to run from Blanes to the French border, and its towns are the reason most people come: Tossa de Mar, whose Vila Vella is the only fortified medieval town still standing on the Catalan coast, Begur with its castle and its coves, and Cadaqués at the end of the road beyond Figueres. Inland, Girona has an old quarter above the Onyar, a Jewish Call and a cathedral that television has used as a location. What matters to a private client is what lies within a morning of the runway.
about 12.5 km to the north-east, with the river houses, the Jewish Call and the cathedraltypically 15 minutes
about 25 km in a straight line to the walled town on the southern coasttypically 40 minutes
the hill village of the central coast and the coves of Sa Riera, Sa Tuna, Fornells and Aiguablava below ittypically 45 minutes
about 44 km in a straight line to the Dalí Theatre-Museumtypically 40 minutes
about 60 km in a straight line to the white village and the Dalí house beside ittypically 1 hour 15 minutes
about 56 km in a straight line to the Barcelona-Catalunya circuittypically 1 hour
about 88 km in a straight line to El Prat, with the airport bus taking about 75 minutes to the citytypically 1 hour 10 minutes
The Dalí triangle deserves a line of its own because it shapes so many weekends: the Theatre-Museum in Figueres, the house in Portlligat beside Cadaqués, and the castle in Púbol that he bought and decorated for Gala. The official route puts the Portlligat house about 40 km from Figueres and Púbol about 40 km further on, a loop of roughly 80 km, and guided tours of the house and the castle are booked through the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation. We plan the day with one driver, so that it does not depend on a taxi at each stop.
Flying to Girona with a dog or a cat
Dogs and cats are routine passengers on this route, and a private flight removes the hardest part of it: the animal travels in the cabin beside you, with no hold and no kennel queue, on a sector of under two hours. What deserves attention is the paperwork at both ends, above all the date on the health certificate, which counts for only ten days.

What Spain asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:
- An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or on the same day, never after it;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before entry, so a dog or cat under 15 weeks cannot travel;
- An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU and also used for the return to Britain as stated on the certificate, with the owner's written declaration that the journey is not commercial. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
- Entry through an authorised travellers' point of entry. Girona-Costa Brava, Barcelona El Prat and Reus are all on the Ministry of Agriculture's list, and the animal and its papers are declared to the Civil Guard's customs service on arrival. No more than five animals may travel with one person;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Girona run
– Spain does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, only Britain asks for it on the way home, so it is a vet appointment you book in Catalonia towards the end of the stay. Count back from the departure time, because the window is 24 to 120 hours and a flight that moves by a day can move the window out of reach;
– The order of the chip and the vaccine matters, and so does the airport. A vaccination given before the microchip does not count, and an animal brought in through a customs point that is not on the Ministry's list is refused and sent back to its country of origin, so the field and the certificate are checked line by line before the flight, not at the airport;
– Some breeds are classed as potentially dangerous. Catalonia lists thirteen: American Staffordshire Terrier, Akita Inu, Bullmastiff, Doberman, Dogo Argentino, Dogue de Bordeaux, Fila Brasileiro, Neapolitan Mastiff, Pit Bull Terrier, Presa Canario, Rottweiler, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Tosa Inu, together with crosses of them. For these dogs the rules on a licence, registration, insurance, a muzzle and a non-extendable lead of under two metres apply to owners in Catalonia, and the guidance we found does not say how they are applied to a visitor, so tell us the breed when you ask for the quote, not afterwards.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Girona calendar: flowers in May, engines at Montmeló and a long summer on the coast
Girona has no single high season. It has a spring built around the flower festival and the cyclists, a summer built around the coast and its festivals, and a motorsport calendar that sits on top of both from the circuit an hour to the south. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why a festival weekend costs more
Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Girona is well placed in it, with Barcelona, Perpignan and Palma all close. What tightens in a busy week is the airport itself, since business flights are subject to declared capacity and need clearance in advance, together with hotel rooms in the old town, rail seats and good cars. A booking made two weeks before Temps de Flors or a July weekend can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Barcelona or Perpignan, and that costs more. The same booking made four or five weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks a charter to Girona can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Girona price down
- Move the dates by a few days where you can. Weekdays in May and September are calmer than the festival weekend and the weeks of high summer;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Barcelona or the south of France needs less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of under two hours positioning is a meaningful part of the bill;
- Check whether another field works as well. Barcelona, Perpignan and Reus price close to Girona on the same light jet from Biggin Hill, so the fare is not a reason to choose between them. Let the location of the meeting and the road from the airport decide.
Types of flights
Girona produces a different mix from the big-city destinations we cover, because it is a resort coast, a cultural town and a cycling base at the same time, served by an airport small enough to be quiet and long enough to take almost anything.
- Summer stays on the Costa Brava, usually four to eight people with a villa or a hotel in Begur, Tossa de Mar or Cadaqués, for a week or a long weekend;
- Culture trips to Girona and the Dalí triangle, one or two nights, which the flower festival turns into a weekend that is booked months ahead;
- Cycling groups in spring and autumn, small parties with bike bags, for whom the hold matters more than the seat count;
- Motorsport at Montmeló: the Formula 1 weekend in the years the Barcelona race is held, and the closed-door winter tests, with Girona as the alternative to a busy El Prat;
- Evenings at the summer festivals of Peralada, Cap Roig and Porta Ferrada, where guests fly in on the day and leave after the show;
- Hops along the Catalan coast, to the Balearics and across the French border, inside a longer Mediterranean programme.
The day trip is worth a close look. Land a little before ten, leave at five in the afternoon local time and you are back on the British side shortly before six in the evening, UK time, with about seven hours on the ground in between. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. Because Girona is listed as open round the clock, a late departure after a dinner or a performance does not call for a different airport. We quote the day return and the overnight side by side, so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody on board, sold at a discount on the usual fare. At Girona they follow the season and the calendar rather than a fixed timetable, and it helps to know where they come from.
Where Girona empty legs come from
– Summer changeovers. Couples and families arrive on a Friday or Saturday and the aircraft goes home empty, which puts a leg towards Britain on the market on the same day;
– Festival and race weekends. Aircraft that take guests to Barcelona, Peralada or the flower festival often reposition through Girona, Perpignan or Reus, and the short legs between them can be cheap;
– The winter test sessions. Teams and suppliers charter into Barcelona for the closed-door running, and some of those aircraft leave empty.
Because the corridor between Britain and Catalonia is a busy one, a client who can name a few days rather than a single date has a better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Girona match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
On the Costa Brava a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip. The coast is long and winding, the coves are an hour or more from the runway by road, and the straight line between two of them crosses a ridge or the sea. That is where rotary flight changes the day: a villa above Begur, the beaches of Platja d'Aro, or the end of the road at Cadaqués.
14 nm in a straight line to the heliport listed as Costa Brava Centro, at Castell d'Aro, against about half an hour by roadabout 15 minutes
14 nm in a straight line to the walled town on the southern coast, against about 40 minutes by roadabout 15 minutes
24 nm in a straight line to the Dalí Theatre-Museum, against about 40 minutes by roadabout 21 minutes
34 nm in a straight line to Cadaqués and Portlligat, against more than an hour by roadabout 26 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent, so we check the status of a hotel lawn or a field before the quote is written, not after it, and in a protected area such as the Cap de Creus natural park the park rules come first;
– Weather sets the schedule. Wind and low cloud can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;
– A transfer that ends in France brings a second set of permissions. Tell us the landing site at the other end when you ask for the quote, and book the helicopter together with the jet.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for scenic work, the wider H130 for villa and hotel transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Girona charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
LONG WEEKEND · COSTA BRAVA
A villa above the coves, four friends
Biggin Hill - Girona, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 50 min · 4 pax
Wheels up on Friday morning, on the ground a little before ten local time and at the villa for lunch. The car met them at the handler's door and the return slot was set for Sunday evening, when the airport is quiet. The only decision that took time was light jet against midsize, and the answer was the light jet, with the saving spent on the car.
DAY TRIP · DALÍ
Out in the morning, Figueres by lunch
Farnborough - Girona, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 50 min · 3 pax
Wheels up at half past seven and on the ground at about twenty past ten local time, the Theatre-Museum before the crowds and lunch in the Empordà, with the aircraft waiting at the handler's lounge for a departure after five. The Portlligat visit was booked through the foundation before the flight. A long day, and it works.
FLOWER FESTIVAL · FIXED DATES
A weekend for Temps de Flors
London Luton - Girona, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 45 min · 6 pax
The dates were set by the festival and not by the client. Hotel rooms in the old town were the first constraint, the aircraft the second, and the booking went in six weeks ahead. The party walked the courtyards early on the Sunday, before the weekend crowd, and flew home that evening.
CYCLING CAMP · BIKE BAGS
Four riders and their kit in April
Birmingham - Girona, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 55 min · 4 pax
Four bike bags and four kit bags decide a booking before the seat count does. We quoted a light jet alongside, checked the hold of each against the luggage list, and the midsize won. The handler arranged a van for the transfer into Girona, where the group was based for ten days.
A DOG ON BOARD · LONG WEEKEND
Two adults and a Labrador
Bristol - Girona, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 55 min · 2 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Catalonia for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. Girona is on the Ministry's list of authorised points of entry for pets. We booked the flight and the paperwork together and settled the whole thing in one exchange of messages rather than three.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING HOME
A jet already going your way
Girona - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 45 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a couple out for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Girona
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Girona?
About 1 hour 50 minutes from Biggin Hill, Farnborough and London City in a light jet, 1 hour 55 minutes from Stansted and 1 hour 45 minutes from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 600 to 637 nautical miles. From Birmingham allow about 1 hour 55 minutes and from Manchester 2 hours 5 minutes, from Newcastle 2 hours 15 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow 2 hours 25 minutes. Spain is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands shortly before ten local time.
2How much does a private jet to Girona cost?
From about £8,700 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, £8,750 to £8,800 from Farnborough or London City, and £9,200 in a Phenom from Luton. A midsize cabin runs £12,050 to £12,900 from Birmingham and Manchester, and from Scotland allow £19,000 to £19,150. The flower festival, the Formula 1 weekends and the weekends of July and August can price above these figures.
3Which airport should a private jet use, Girona, Barcelona, Perpignan or Reus?
Girona-Costa Brava (GRO / LEGE) for the Costa Brava, the Dalí triangle and Girona itself. It has a 2,400 m runway and is listed as open round the clock. Barcelona El Prat (BCN / LEBL) is for Barcelona, Montmeló and the trade fairs, and adds the better part of two hours on the road to the northern coast. Perpignan (PGF / LFMP) is the French option, with customs from 08:00 to 20:00 local time and a request 24 hours ahead for a flight from Britain. Reus (REU / LERS) serves Tarragona and PortAventura. Sabadell cannot take traffic from outside Schengen. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill the fares to Barcelona, Perpignan and Reus are close to the Girona fare, so the meeting decides.
4Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Girona?
Britain is outside Schengen and Spain is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival at Girona, where both are available during airport hours. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. Handling is compulsory for every flight, and a slot request must reach the airport three hours ahead, which we arrange with the handler.
5Can I land at night, and how far are Figueres, Cadaqués and the coves?
The airport is listed as open round the clock, but handling and customs are confirmed in writing for the hour and the slot request goes in at least three hours ahead. The old town of Girona is about 12.5 km away. Figueres is about 44 km in a straight line, typically 40 minutes by road, Cadaqués about 60 km, typically 1 hour 15 minutes, and Tossa de Mar about 25 km, typically 40 minutes. A helicopter covers Cadaqués in about 26 minutes if the landing site is agreed first.
6Can I take my dog to Girona on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Spain asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given from 12 weeks of age with 21 days elapsed, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used, and the animal must enter through an authorised point of entry, of which Girona is one. Spain does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, but a dog needs one from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment, and Catalonia classes thirteen breeds as potentially dangerous.
