Private jet charter in Brindisi

From the south of England the heel of Italy is under three hours away, and Brindisi is the airport that opens its southern half: Lecce and the Baroque towns of the Salento, the Ionian and Adriatic beaches below them, Ostuni on its white hill and the masserie among the olive groves of the Itria valley. Private Jets UK charters the aircraft and settles the arrival details that make this field different from an ordinary resort airport. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Brindisi is a coordinated airport, so a slot goes with the booking, handling is compulsory, and the field still carries military facilities beside the civil terminal. Bari, the other Puglia airport, is about 113 km up the coast in a straight line, and a good charter starts by deciding which of the two is the right door.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Brindisi depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Brindisi (BDS)?

Two hours fifty minutes from Biggin Hill in a light jet, five minutes more from London City, and a little over three hours from the north of England. Italy keeps Central European time, one hour ahead of Britain, and the clock gives that hour back on the way home. The British fields we use lie 1,019 to 1,318 nautical miles from Brindisi, which makes it a light-jet sector from the south coast and the London airfields, a midsize job from Manchester and Newcastle, and a trip for a super-midsize cabin from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Every sector in the table is nonstop.

Door to door, and who is on the apron

Leave Biggin Hill at seven and the wheels touch at Brindisi a little before eleven local time. The terminal is about 6 km from the centre of the port city, and Lecce lies about 39 km to the south-east. Handling is compulsory, so one of the local handlers is named in the flight plan and waits at the aircraft. Brindisi is listed as an airport of entry with customs, which means the first Italian landing can also be the border; customs and immigration are listed as available around the clock in one reference database, and the opening hours are still the detail we settle with the handler for any very early or very late arrival. A client who left a London office at half past six can be in the old streets of Lecce in time for lunch.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to five people with ordinary luggage, a light jet. Close to three hours in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is entirely comfortable, and the difference in price goes further spent on the car and the masseria than on a cabin you will not fill;

– A party of six or seven, or a family with the beach kit of a fortnight, bicycles, golf clubs for the Itria valley or a case of olive oil for the way home, belongs in a midsize jet. We price it next to the light one so that you see both figures, and on this run the size of the hold usually decides before the seat count does;

– A super-midsize or large cabin earns its fee when the party is big, when Brindisi is the first of several stops, or when the aircraft stays with you for the week. The 3,048 m runway takes every type we would send. What limits you is a place on the stand in the busy weeks, and that is booked first.

Onward from Brindisi: the car, the aircraft and the ferry

Bari is about 113 km away in a straight line, and the drive between the two airports takes roughly an hour and a half, so a charter between them only makes sense when the aircraft has to be at the other end, for instance when you land at Brindisi for the Salento and fly home from Bari after a week in the Itria valley. Corfu is the more natural flight: 45 minutes by turboprop against a sea crossing on one of the Greek ferries that sail from the port of Brindisi. Dubrovnik and Naples are of the same order. Anything longer than that goes to a jet.

Before you accept an onward quote from Brindisi

– Ask whether the aircraft has a stand reserved for the return. Brindisi is a coordinated field, and a jet that leaves for Corfu and comes back needs a slot and a place to park both times, not one;

– Ask for the legs as one booking. Brindisi to Corfu to Athens and home over five days is cheaper arranged together than flown as three separate sectors, because the crew and the aircraft stay with you instead of returning to base in between.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Brindisi:

Light jets, the usual choice for a small party

Close to three hours from London is a light-jet distance, and nothing on the route lacks the range. A party of four or five with ordinary luggage gains more from the money kept for the car, the masseria and a dinner in Lecce than from an extra row of seats.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for the hold as much as the seats

A week in the Salento means beach kit, bicycles and the luggage of a house party, and the journey home carries oil, wine and ceramics. A midsize cabin has the baggage space that a light jet does not, and the price is quoted beside it.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a group that travels as one party, a team that works in the air or a trip that carries on to the islands or the Gulf. The runway takes all of them, and the stand is the first thing we reserve.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the sectors out of Brindisi: Corfu, Dubrovnik and Naples are under an hour in the air, and the saving against a jet on distances like these is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a masseria near Ostuni, a villa on the Ionian coast, a hotel on the cliffs near Otranto. Where the helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Brindisi has a modest based fleet, but Rome, Naples and Bari are within an hour of it by air, so a quote may name one of those cities as the positioning point. That is normal for an airport of this size, and it is often where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Brindisi

Brindisi takes the traffic for the south of Puglia. Bari does the same for the north and the middle, and a third field matters for a few special programmes. Which one is right depends on where you will sleep, and the aircraft has little to do with it.

Airport What it gives you
Brindisi, Casale / Salento
BDS / LIBR
The airport for Lecce and the Salento, for Ostuni and the white towns of the Itria valley, and for the Ionian coast around Gallipoli. About 6 km from the centre of Brindisi, with a main asphalt runway (13/31) of 3,048 m, instrument approaches and an airport and tower listed as open round the clock. Handling is compulsory and comes from Delta Aerotaxi, Sky Services or Fly Service. It is a joint civil and military field and a coordinated airport, so a slot goes with the booking
Bari, Karol Wojtyła
BRI / LIBD
The choice when the programme is in Bari itself, on the coast to its south-east or in Alberobello, which lies a little nearer to Bari than to Brindisi. About 8 km north-west of the city, with a single asphalt runway (07/25) of 3,000 m. It is also a civil and military airport and a coordinated one. Brindisi is about 113 km away in a straight line, and the drive between the two takes roughly an hour and a half
Taranto-Grottaglie, Marcello Arlotta
TAR / LIBG
A general aviation field about 16 km from Taranto and 4 km from Grottaglie, with a very long asphalt runway of about 3,200 m and no airline service. It is close to the western edge of the Itria valley, about 27 km in a straight line from Locorotondo. We confirm handling and opening hours for each landing, because they differ from the two main airports

Four things to settle before a landing at Brindisi:

A military field with a civil terminal

Brindisi began as a military airbase and is still described as a joint civil and military airport. The airport became legally civilian, but the military facilities were kept and still carry the name of the Orazio Pierozzi military airport. A United Nations logistics base and humanitarian depot also stand on the airfield. For a private client it means two things: tower and approach services were handed from the Italian Air Force to the civil air traffic provider ENAV, with a period of shared responsibility, and the stands and the runway are used by more than one kind of operator.

The handlers

Handling is compulsory. Three companies are listed: Delta Aerotaxi, which advertises a VIP lounge and FBO services, Sky Services, with an office and lounge in the main terminal, and Fly Service, also in the main terminal. The handler is named in the flight plan, books the stand and meets the aircraft. Do not expect a stand-alone business aviation terminal of the Farnborough kind: arrivals are handled in or beside the main terminal.

Slots and the seasons

The Italian civil aviation authority, ENAC, lists Brindisi among the coordinated airports, which means a slot is needed even for a private flight. Coordination follows the two scheduling seasons: summer runs from the last Sunday of March to the Saturday before the last Sunday of October, and airlines add seasonal services in that period. In the busy weeks of the summer season the stand is the scarce item, so the booking and the slot request go in together.

Border, passport and the car

Italy is in Schengen and Britain is not, so the first Italian landing is where the border is cleared. Brindisi is listed as an airport of entry with customs. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months after departure. Give us the name of the handler as well as the flight so that the driver goes to the right place; Lecce is about 39 km away.

Bari or Brindisi: how to choose the door

Both airports are coordinated, both are shared with the military, and both take any business jet we would send, so the decision is made on the map. Brindisi wins for Lecce, the Salento, Ostuni and the southern Itria valley; Bari wins for Bari itself and for Alberobello. The middle ground is Ostuni, Locorotondo and the coast around Savelletri, where the difference is a matter of minutes and the better question is which airport has the stand. The straight-line distances below show how the ground falls.

Ostuni
the White Town on its hill, about 8 km from the sea
Brindisi 32 km, Bari 83 km
Lecce
the Baroque city of soft limestone
Brindisi 39 km, Bari 147 km
Fasano and Savelletri
the coast resort area, with Borgo Egnazia
Brindisi 53 km, Bari 61 km
Locorotondo
a hill town of the Itria valley
Brindisi 53 km, Bari 64 km
Alberobello
the trulli district, a UNESCO site
Brindisi 62 km, Bari 56 km
Gallipoli
the old town on a limestone island on the Ionian coast
Brindisi 67 km, Bari 159 km
Otranto
the cathedral town on the Adriatic, at the eastern end of the heel
Brindisi 72 km, Bari 182 km

For the same aircraft and the same passengers, Bari costs less from Biggin Hill: £12,900 against £13,600 for Brindisi in a Citation CJ3+. The difference of £700 is the extra flying, and a party heading for Lecce would add the road from Bari, about an hour and a half to Brindisi and then the stretch on to Lecce. Choose on the destination and book the stand early; if one airport has no space for the date, the other becomes the answer.

From the apron to the Salento

Brindisi is a port of more than 80,000 residents, with a Roman past that survives in a single column of the pair that marked the end of the Appian Way, a castle built by Frederick II and an Aragonese fort on an island at the harbour mouth. Ferries leave for Greece from the port. Most private clients do not stay: the airport is a gateway, and the places they come for lie a drive away in every direction, from the Baroque streets of Lecce to the whitewashed hill of Ostuni and the two seas of the Salento.

Lecce rewards a night, not an hour. About 94,000 people live there, the city is known as the Florence of the South, and its churches and palaces are built from a local limestone so soft that it can be worked like wood, which is why the facades are so deeply carved. The Basilica of Santa Croce has one of the most richly decorated, the cathedral stands in its own square beside a bell tower about 70 m high, and the remains of a Roman amphitheatre, partly buried, sit near the main square. South of the city the Salento narrows to the heel: Otranto, with its cathedral and a mosaic floor of the months and Old Testament scenes, Gallipoli on its island, and Santa Maria di Leuca at the southern end of the region. A few inland towns still speak Griko, a Greek dialect and a reminder of the Byzantine centuries.

The country between Brindisi and Taranto is a different landscape. Ostuni, which has some 30,000 residents in winter and as many as 200,000 in summer, sits on a hill above a plain of olive trees. Further west the Itria valley rises to the trulli of Alberobello, whose whole district of conical stone houses is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to Locorotondo, known for its white DOC wine made mainly from Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano, and to Martina Franca, a walled Baroque town. The farms in between are the masserie: white-walled, fortified farm complexes from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, which once pressed the oil and made the wine and are now among the most sought-after places to stay in Puglia. Typical examples have courtyards, a chapel, a pool among the olive trees and a kitchen that serves what the farm grows. Masseria Lamacoppa lies a few kilometres south of Ostuni, Masseria Torre Coccaro is at Savelletri, and the Otranto district has Masseria Montelauro. Borgo Egnazia, a resort at Savelletri, has hosted a G7 summit, and it gives an idea of the standard of hospitality that private clients expect in this stretch of the coast.

Flying to the Salento with a dog or a cat

The flight is the easy part of travelling to Italy with a pet, because the animal sits beside you in the cabin and a sector of under three hours is rarely troubling. The paperwork needs planning. The date on the health certificate is what most often causes a delay, and a mistake is hard to put right at a private airfield on the day.

private flight with animals

What an EU country such as Italy asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed after the vaccination before the animal travels;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an official vet in Britain and valid for entry to the EU for 10 days after it is issued; a British pet passport is not accepted for entry;
  • No more than five animals travelling with one person.

What catches owners out on a Salento trip

– Italy does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in. Britain asks for one on the way home: a dog needs treatment from a vet 24 to 120 hours before it arrives in Great Britain, and cats do not. In practice that is a vet appointment in Puglia towards the end of the stay, so count back from the departure time and book it before you leave;

– The order matters. A rabies vaccination given before the microchip does not count, and a pet that arrives without the right paperwork can be refused entry. We check the certificate line by line before the flight, not on the apron;

– Heat is the other risk. In July and August the apron in Puglia is hot, and a dog should wait in the shade or in the car until the aircraft is ready. A masseria that accepts pets should be confirmed before you book it, because many do not.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected in our flying with pets guide. For the way home, we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.

The Salento calendar: saints in August, a fair night of music and a long summer

The south of Puglia has a short spring, a hot and crowded summer and a quiet winter, and a handful of dated festivals that fill the towns. The date you choose matters more to the price than the aircraft does.

Mid-July to early August
The Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca, a summer season of opera and symphonic music in the Ducal Palace, the Teatro Paolo Grassi, the churches and some of the masserie round the town. It runs for three to four weeks, and Brindisi is about an hour away by road
July and August
The height of the season. Ostuni goes from some 30,000 residents in winter to as many as 200,000, and the coast follows. The summer season at Gallipoli runs from May to October, and Lecce is at its hottest in July, with an average daily maximum of about 32 degrees Celsius. Rooms, cars and masserie with a pool want the longest notice
24 to 26 August
The feast of the patron saints of Lecce, Oronzo, Giusto and Fortunato: a procession from the cathedral, Masses, concerts across the city and fireworks on the night of the 26th. The old centre is crowded, so rooms and a driver are booked early
25 to 27 August
The Cavalcata di Sant'Oronzo in Ostuni, a procession of horsemen in red cassocks and plumed hats, with horses in embroidered red shawls, a blessing, bands and lights, behind a silver statue of the saint
Late August
The closing concert of the Notte della Taranta, held on a Saturday in Melpignano, in the Greek-speaking corner of the Salento, with about thirty traditional songs, a live broadcast and dancing afterwards. Brindisi is the nearer of the two Puglia airports by a wide margin, and rooms in the area go early
First week of September
The feast of San Teodoro and San Lorenzo in Brindisi itself, with a procession of boats around the inner harbour in the first week of the month. A local event more than a tourist one, and a reason to keep the first days of September for the city and the harbour
October and November
Quiet. Lecce is at its wettest in these two months, many country properties close, and the charter market is easy. A good time for a short stay in the Baroque towns and for the olive harvest country, as long as you confirm the opening dates of the masseria first

Why the last week of August costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large, and the Salento is well placed in it. What gets tight is the number of good rooms and cars, and the stands at Brindisi, which is a coordinated field in the middle of its summer season. Ask for the slot and the stand with the quote, and keep a day either side of the date if you can.

Ways to bring the Brindisi price down

  • Move the dates by a few days. The weeks outside the saints' days and the Notte della Taranta are calmer, and so is a midweek landing against a Saturday one;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Rome, Naples or Bari is a short positioning flight away, and a quote built on it is often lower than one from a London base;
  • Fly a smaller cabin where the party allows, and send the luggage with the group, not ahead of it. The light-jet figure at the top of this page is the realistic floor;
  • Look at the empty-leg list below. A repositioning flight that matches your dates can cost a fraction of the usual price.

Types of flights

The traffic to Brindisi differs from the Alpine or the Riviera destinations we cover. It is mostly leisure, with a thin layer of business and institutional travel on top.

  • Holiday charters to the masserie, the villas of the Itria valley and the coast around Ostuni and Savelletri, with a family or a house party and a long luggage list;
  • Weddings and celebrations in the countryside, with guests arriving over two or three days on aircraft of different sizes, which makes the stand plan the first job;
  • City stays in Lecce and Brindisi, with a driver and a few nights in the old towns, often combined with a day on the Ionian coast;
  • Institutional and business visits to the Brindisi area, which has a United Nations logistics base and humanitarian depot on the airfield, with a small team and a fixed return;
  • Onward trips to Corfu, the Greek islands, Malta and Sicily, with Brindisi as the first or the last stop of a longer programme.

The day trip is possible, though it needs thought. Land a little before eleven local time, leave at five in the afternoon and you are back on the British side shortly before seven in the evening, UK time, with about six hours on the ground. That is enough for a meeting in Brindisi or a long lunch in Lecce and not enough for the coast. Anyone who wants the Salento should stay a night.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Brindisi has no single event that produces them, so they come from the rhythm of the season.

Where Brindisi empty legs come from

– The weekly changeovers of the summer. A party arrives for a week at a masseria, the aircraft returns empty, and a leg appears at the start of the stay and another at the end;

– The Greek connection. Aircraft that take guests to Corfu or the islands often reposition through Brindisi on the way back, and a leg towards Britain from there is sometimes offered;

– Celebrations. Aircraft moved to and from Puglia for a wedding weekend put short legs on the market, and those short hops can be inexpensive.

Outside the summer the corridor between Britain and the heel of Italy is thinner than the busiest London routes. A client who can name a few days has far better odds than one who needs a particular evening, and the usual trade applies: you give up control of the exact departure time, and you gain a price well below that of a charter quote.

Helicopter charter

A helicopter in the south of Puglia saves the last part of the trip, not the middle. The roads are good and the towns are close together, so what a helicopter changes is the final stretch to a masseria in the countryside, a villa on the coast or a hotel on the cliffs, and the view of the trulli country from the air.

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent, so we check a masseria lawn or a field before the quote is written, and a protected coastal area is a different matter from an olive grove;

– At a field with military traffic, the arrival and departure of a helicopter are agreed with the tower and the handler beforehand. Give us the pick-up time and the helicopter is planned around the aircraft;

– The saving is large only on the longer hops. To Lecce the car is the better choice, and a helicopter pays for itself on the stretches to the coast and the hill country.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for scenic work, the wider H130 for villa and masseria transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them with the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Brindisi charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

THE SALENTO · A FAMILY WEEK

Six people and a masseria near Ostuni

Farnborough - Brindisi, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 40 min · 6 pax

A house party with a great deal of luggage and a pool among the olive trees. The car took about half an hour from the airport. We named the handler to the driver in advance, and the return slot was requested with the outbound one.

LECCE · A LONG WEEKEND

Two couples in the Baroque city

Southampton - Brindisi, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 50 min · 4 pax

They wanted to land, drop the bags and be at a table in Lecce for a late lunch. The drive from the airport took about 40 minutes, and a day on the Ionian coast was added on the Saturday with a driver already booked.

THE ITRIA VALLEY · AN OPERA WEEK

A pair of seats for the summer festival

London Luton - Brindisi, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 40 min · 4 pax

Four guests for the festival in Martina Franca. Brindisi was chosen for the drive of about an hour and for the stand, and the return was fixed for the morning after the last performance.

A WEDDING IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

Guests on two aircraft over two days

Biggin Hill - Brindisi, CJ3+, about 2 h 50 min · 6 pax

The couple's families arrived on a light jet from Biggin Hill and the remaining guests on a second aircraft the following morning. Both stands were requested together and the transfers were planned from the handler's name, which saved a morning of telephone calls.

SUMMER · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a spaniel for an August week

Birmingham - Brindisi, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 55 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Puglia for the tapeworm treatment was booked for the last two days of the stay. The dog stayed in the cabin with the family on both flights.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING NORTH

A jet already going your way

Brindisi - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 40 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was returning to base. The client gave us a three-day window, accepted a departure time that moved by a few hours and paid a fraction of the full charter price.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Brindisi

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Brindisi?

About 2 hours 50 minutes from Biggin Hill in a light jet, and around 2 hours 40 minutes from Luton in a Phenom, over roughly 1,019 to 1,051 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Bristol or Manchester a midsize jet needs 2 hours 55 minutes to 3 hours 5 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow a Challenger 350 needs about 3 hours 15 minutes. Italy is one hour ahead of Britain, so allow for that on arrival.

2How much does a private jet to Brindisi cost?

From about £13,600 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, £13,650 from London City, and £13,900 to £13,950 in a Phenom from Farnborough or Luton. A midsize cabin runs £17,350 to £18,950 from the south and the north of England, and a Challenger 350 from Scotland £25,750 to £26,250. The last fortnight of August can price higher, and an empty leg can cost far less.

3Should I fly into Brindisi or Bari?

Brindisi for Lecce, the Salento, Ostuni and the Ionian coast, with the Itria valley an hour away; Bari for Bari itself and Alberobello. The two airports are about 113 km apart in a straight line and roughly an hour and a half by road. A light jet from Biggin Hill costs £12,900 to Bari and £13,600 to Brindisi, so the choice is made on where you will sleep and which airport has the stand.

4Is Brindisi airport shared with the military, and does that affect a private jet?

Yes. Brindisi began as a military airbase, became a civil airport while the military facilities were kept, and has a United Nations logistics base on the field. Tower and approach control passed from the Italian Air Force to the civil provider ENAV. For a private flight it means a coordinated airport with a slot, compulsory handling by Delta Aerotaxi, Sky Services or Fly Service, and a stand that is agreed before the aircraft leaves London.

5Do I need a visa or a landing permit for Brindisi?

Britain is outside Schengen and Italy is inside it, so you clear passport control at the first Italian landing. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months after departure. Brindisi is listed as an airport of entry with customs. The handling company and the slot are arranged by us, and on the way home the General Aviation Report for the UK is filed no earlier than 48 hours and no later than 2 hours before departure.

6Can I take my dog to Brindisi on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and an EU country such as Italy asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days before travel, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for 10 days for entry. A dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet 24 to 120 hours before it arrives back in Great Britain, so book the appointment in Puglia before you leave. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.
