Private jet charter in Namibia

Namibia is a ten-hour flight from London and a quiet one for business aviation, so the work lies in the details: one main gateway near Windhoek, a handler that is mandatory, a permit filed ahead and, for most guests, a light aircraft to a lodge. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Namibia that means a landing permit, a handler and a visa plan for every passenger.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Namibia depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Bombardier Global 6000 flying nonstop to Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Namibia?

Namibia keeps Central Africa Time, two hours ahead of Greenwich all year, so the gap with Britain is two hours in winter and one in summer. A Global 6000 that leaves Biggin Hill at nine in the evening in winter lands at Windhoek in the morning, local time, inside the airport's listed hours of 06:00 to 22:00. Sectors to Windhoek, gate to gate:

Biggin Hill to Windhoek
4,707 nautical miles, the nearest London field and the base for the price at the top of the page
about 10 h 05 min
Farnborough to Windhoek
4,713 nautical miles, the usual choice for Surrey, Hampshire and the Thames Valley
about 10 h 05 min
Edinburgh to Windhoek
5,021 nautical miles, the main Scottish departure
about 10 h 45 min

Range is the question before price

Windhoek lies 4,707 nautical miles from Biggin Hill by our routing allowance. A Global 6000 is published at roughly 6,000 nautical miles, so the sector is inside its range with a reserve, and it is the aircraft behind the title price. A Praetor 600, at about 4,000, or a Challenger 350, at about 3,200, needs a fuel stop in Africa on the way out; the Gulfstream G550 and G650ER fly it nonstop with more margin.

A stop adds about an hour and a half on the ground and a second set of landing charges.

The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Typical private jet charter prices from Britain to Windhoek, listed cheapest first. Every row is a nonstop Global 6000, since smaller jets need a fuel stop. London City is left out, because its short runway is a poor start for a sector this long:

Two things worth knowing about these figures

– The choice of airport barely moves the price here. Walvis Bay, on the Atlantic coast, is 4,709 nautical miles from Biggin Hill, about £50 more than Windhoek on the same aircraft; distance is what counts, and each hundred nautical miles adds roughly £2,600 on a Global 6000;

– A one-way price assumes the aircraft flies back empty. On a return trip it either waits in Namibia, with parking and crew accommodation as lines of their own, or flies home and comes back for you.

Private jet flights within Namibia and to its neighbours

Namibia is a hub and spoke country. The long-range jet lands at Windhoek or Walvis Bay, and a turboprop or light aircraft takes the party on to a lodge. Scheduled safari flights from Windhoek are listed to Etosha, Mokuti Lodge, Swakopmund, Sossusvlei and Twyfelfontein, which shows the pattern. Sectors below start at Windhoek:

Two things worth knowing about the sectors inside the country

– Distances are long. Etosha and Sossusvlei are each an hour or more by air from Windhoek, and the lodge, not the airport, decides the exact strip;

– The jet stays at the gateway. Whether a foreign-registered jet may carry passengers between two Namibian points is a question for the aviation authority.

Business aviation airports in Namibia

Namibia is not a business aviation hub. Three airports take the larger aircraft, and smaller fields such as Swakopmund, Lüderitz, Ondangwa and Katima Mulilo are treated as cases for the quote:

Airport Ground How it operates
Hosea Kutako International
WDH / FYWH
About 40 km east of Windhoek, at about 1,720 metres Runway 08/26 of 4,532 metres, asphalt, with a second runway of 1,524 metres. Listed open 04:00 to 20:00 UTC (06:00 to 22:00 local) with a 48-hour notice and a fee outside those hours; the tower is listed as 24 hours. Customs, airport of entry, no slots, handling mandatory, Jet A1 offered. The main gateway for long-range jets
Eros
ERS / FYWE
On the southern edge of Windhoek, about 4 km from the centre, at about 1,700 metres Runway 01/19 of about 1,980 metres, asphalt. Listed hours Monday to Friday 04:00 to 19:00 UTC, Saturday 04:00 to 18:00, Sunday 05:00 to 18:00; prior permission after hours. Customs, airport of entry, handling mandatory. The city field for turboprops and smaller aircraft
Walvis Bay
WVB / FYWB
About 15 km east of Walvis Bay, at about 90 metres, on the Atlantic coast Runway 09/27 of about 3,500 metres, asphalt. Listed hours 06:00 to 15:00 UTC (08:00 to 17:00 local), tower Monday to Friday. Customs and airport of entry. The gateway for the coast, Swakopmund and the dunes to the south

The records we hold name no executive terminal at any of the three. Hosea Kutako lists Jetmate Aviation as the supervising agent, with General Aviation Services also listed there, at Eros and at Walvis Bay. Handling is mandatory at all three, and a VIP facility is described only as planned. Who meets the aircraft on the apron is confirmed in the quote.

Windhoek and its two airports stand at about 1,700 metres, where thin air cuts take-off performance on a hot afternoon, so weight and runway are checked for the actual aircraft.

Two points settle most Namibian flights before a quote goes out:

Landing and overflight permits

Permits are issued by the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority. One permit specialist suggests 24 to 48 working hours for a standard request and says this is not an official figure; another files against three to five working days. We file as early as we can.

Documents for a private flight

The file typically has the aircraft registration and type, the operator and call sign, the schedule, the route with its entry and exit points, the purpose of the flight and, when asked for, the certificates, the insurance and the crew and passenger details. A change of date, timing or routing may need a revised permit.

Arriving from Britain: visas, passports and health

Namibia asks British citizens for a visa, unlike Botswana and South Africa next door. It can be issued on arrival at a port of entry or applied for online as an e-visa before travel. The rest of the file is small but strict:

Visa
required for British passport holders; the fee is set in Namibian dollars and is lower for children aged 6 to 11, and children under 6 pay none
on arrival or an e-visa
Passport
valid for at least six months after the day of arrival, with at least three blank pages; check that the entry stamp shows the right date and length of stay
check every passport, children included
Children
the valid passport and a full, unabridged birth certificate that names both parents; a short certificate is not accepted. A parent travelling alone, or an adult who is not a parent, carries a signed affidavit
for anyone aged 17 and under
Yellow fever
a certificate is needed from travellers coming from a country listed as a transmission risk; Britain is not one, but a fuel stop in Africa can be
ask us when the route is drawn

Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation. Most other nationalities do.

Read the travel advice before you book

The British government warns that muggers target tourists in Windhoek at any time of day, that thefts from vehicles are common at fuel stops, and that street taxis are best avoided. Visitors should carry photo ID for police checkpoints. Livestock and wildlife are serious hazards on roads after dark, and gravel roads deteriorate in the rainy season from January to April.

On health, Windhoek has good medical facilities, private hospitals may ask for payment first, and insurance must cover unexpected medical evacuation. The advice mentions altitude sickness in parts of the country and dehydration in the dry heat. It does not cover malaria, so we point clients to TravelHealthPro for the lodge areas. We read the advice against your itinerary and check it again close to departure.

Which airport for which part of Namibia

Namibia is large and thinly settled, so the airport is chosen by the place you are going, and the aircraft after it:

Windhoek and business
the capital; Hosea Kutako is the jet gateway, and Eros is the city field for smaller aircraft
Hosea Kutako, or Eros for a turboprop
Etosha
the national park in the north; scheduled safari flights are listed from Windhoek, and a charter turboprop does the same on your timing
Windhoek, then a light aircraft
Sossusvlei and the Namib dunes
the red dunes of the Namib-Naukluft park to the south-west; scheduled safari flights run from Windhoek, and a lodge there is listed with scenic flights
Windhoek or Walvis Bay, then a light aircraft
The coast and Skeleton Coast
Walvis Bay and Swakopmund on the Atlantic; day flights from Swakopmund are listed to the Skeleton Coast, Sossusvlei, Fish River Canyon and Lüderitz
Walvis Bay

The Namibian year: dry months, rains and the coast

Namibia is a country of dry weather, and the wildlife follows the water, so the calendar for a safari is simple:

January to March
the main rains, with afternoon thunderstorms; February is the wettest month, animals scatter across the park and game viewing is harder
wet, green, quiet
April to May
evening rain still possible; wildlife begins to cluster around shrinking water sources and viewing improves, and the desert flowers in April
shoulder season
June to August
no rain, cold mornings and evenings and mild days; animals gather at the waterholes in Etosha, Sossusvlei is rated great from June and the Skeleton Coast excellent in July, so these are the busiest months
peak season
September to October
still dry and warmer, with strong lion sightings in October; whale and dolphin watching is mentioned along the coast
dry, warm, quieter than July
November to December
the rains arrive late in November and the animals disperse; flamingos feed at Walvis Bay in November and January, and lodges are quieter in December
rains begin

The Namibian calendar: holidays and busy weeks

A few dates move demand for aircraft, handlers and permit offices:

21 March
Independence Day. Good Friday and Easter Monday also close offices
26 August
Heroes' Day, a public holiday.
December to February
A handler lists these as the busiest weeks, when ramp and hotel capacity tighten; 25 and 26 December are Christmas Day and Family Day

What a date does to a flight plan

Public holidays can slow permit work, so for a fixed date we file the permits before the holiday week.

Flying to Namibia with a dog or a cat

Namibia admits pets from Britain, with a permit, an endorsed certificate and, for dogs, blood tests.

The facts to read before you book

A pet flying from Britain needs an import permit from the Director of Animal Health, applied for well ahead; only animals coming from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe are exempt. The health certificate is completed by a licensed vet just before travel and endorsed by a government vet. The rabies vaccination is given between 30 days and 12 months before arrival, and the microchip is a 15-digit ISO chip. A titre test is not required, and with these conditions met there is no quarantine.

Dogs must also test negative for Brucella canis, Trypanosoma evansi, Babesia gibsoni, Dirofilaria immitis and Leishmania within 30 days before export. The published entry point is Hosea Kutako International Airport, where a veterinary officer inspects the animal; the vets should be told of any arrival outside business hours.

  • A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination, which the return to Britain requires;
  • For the return, a Great Britain pet health certificate and a rabies blood test, because Namibia is not a listed country;
  • For dogs only, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain. A cat needs no treatment.

GOV.UK tells owners to check the approved travel route for the return, and its guidance does not say how the rule applies to a private aircraft, so we confirm the paperwork in writing before the flight. An animal that does not meet the rules can be quarantined for up to four months. Other animals are covered on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Much safari traffic is one-way by nature: a family flies out for a fortnight, and the aircraft comes home empty or moves on.

A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. What is free is listed on our empty legs page. Typical empty legs for Namibia:

Route Aircraft Capacity Whole aircraft
Windhoek - Etosha (Okaukuejo) Pilatus PC-12 NGX 9 seats £1,400
Johannesburg - Windhoek Citation XLS+ 9 seats £4,850
Windhoek - UK (London Biggin Hill) Global 6000 13 seats £53,550
Windhoek - UK (Farnborough) Global 6000 13 seats £53,600
UK (London Luton) - Windhoek Global 6000 13 seats £53,950
UK (Birmingham) - Windhoek Global 6000 13 seats £54,500
UK (Manchester) - Windhoek Global 6000 13 seats £55,150
UK (Edinburgh) - Windhoek Global 6000 13 seats £56,950

How to read those figures

Each price is for the whole aircraft. A Global 6000 from London Luton to Windhoek at £53,950 with eight aboard comes to about £6,750 a head. An open return date helps.

Helicopter charter

Helicopters are a small part of Namibian flying, and we say so plainly. Scenic and transfer flying in the desert is mostly done by fixed-wing light aircraft listed at Eros and Swakopmund. The one helicopter service we found named is a scenic flight from a lodge at Sossusvlei over the Namib-Naukluft park, carrying up to three passengers. Anything else is arranged case by case. The times below are straight-line planning estimates from Windhoek:

Windhoek to the Sossusvlei area
to the dunes of Sossusvlei, a long scenic flight
about 1 h 45 min
Windhoek to Walvis Bay
to the coast, a transfer or a scenic flight
about 1 h 35 min
Windhoek to Etosha (Okaukuejo)
to the Okaukuejo area in the park, out and back
about 2 h 05 min

Windhoek stands at about 1,700 metres, where a helicopter carries less than at sea level, so the load is stated in the quote.

Before you plan around a helicopter

Parks and lodges have their own rules, so we confirm permission for every landing site before we quote. A lodge lawn is not a site until it has been approved.

Namibia charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.

ETOSHA · THE DRY SEASON

Four adults and a July date

Farnborough - Windhoek, Global 6000, about 10 h 05 min · 4 pax

The lodges were booked first, the jet fitted around them, and a turboprop made the last hop to the park.

THE COAST · THE DUNES

A couple and a week on the Atlantic

Biggin Hill - Walvis Bay, Global 6000, about 10 h 05 min · 2 pax

Walvis Bay suited a week around Swakopmund and a scenic flight.

WINDHOEK · A DELEGATION

A small group with a protocol officer

London Luton - Windhoek, Global 6000, about 10 h 10 min · 6 pax

The permit file went in early, and the arrival was timed well inside the airport's hours.

SOSSUSVLEI · A FAMILY

Six people and a long stay

Biggin Hill - Windhoek, G650ER, about 9 h 55 min · 6 pax

The family wanted a cabin to sleep in, and the jet waited at Windhoek while light aircraft took them to the dunes.

WITH THE DOG · A QUESTION OF TESTS

Two adults and a spaniel on a posting

Biggin Hill - Windhoek, Global 6000, about 10 h 05 min · 2 pax + dog

The import permit and the blood tests decided the plan before any aircraft did.

EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN

A Windhoek departure with a window of three days

Windhoek - London Luton, Global 6000 empty leg, about 10 h 10 min · 4 pax

The client gave a window instead of a date and paid about £53,950, under half of a fresh one-way charter on the sector.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Namibia

1How long does it take to fly to Namibia by private jet?

About 10 hours 05 minutes nonstop from London Biggin Hill to Windhoek on a Global 6000, and 10 hours 45 minutes from Edinburgh. A smaller aircraft needs a fuel stop. Namibia is two hours ahead of Britain in winter and one in summer.

2How much does a private jet to Namibia cost?

From about £127,450 one way from Biggin Hill to Windhoek on a Global 6000. Walvis Bay from Biggin Hill is about £127,500 on the same aircraft. A turboprop hop from Windhoek to the Etosha area starts from £3,350.

3Which airport should a private jet use in Namibia?

Hosea Kutako (WDH / FYWH) for Windhoek and long-range jets, Walvis Bay (WVB / FYWB) for the coast, Eros (ERS / FYWE) for turboprops and smaller aircraft. All three are airports of entry with customs, and handling is mandatory. Hosea Kutako is listed as open from 06:00 to 22:00 local.

4Do British passengers need a visa for a private flight to Namibia?

Yes. British passport holders need a visa, issued on arrival at a port of entry or applied for online as an e-visa. The passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival and have at least three blank pages, and children need a full birth certificate naming both parents.

5Can a private jet land at the lodges in Etosha or Sossusvlei?

The usual plan is a jet to Windhoek or Walvis Bay and a turboprop or light aircraft on to the lodge strip, with the lodge's permission arranged in advance. We confirm each strip in the quote.

6Can I take my dog or cat to Namibia on a private jet?

Yes, with an import permit applied for in advance, a vet's certificate endorsed by a government vet and a rabies vaccination given between 30 days and 12 months before arrival; dogs also need a set of blood tests within 30 days before export. The published entry point is Hosea Kutako. For the return Namibia is not a listed country, so the animal needs a Great Britain pet health certificate and a rabies blood test.
