Private Jets UK arranges private jet flights to Mumbai from across Britain and Europe. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The aircraft we quote for Mumbai come from two directions: the long-range fleet based around London and Paris, and the cabins that live in Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi within three hours of the city. On this route the second group often produces the better price, so we check both before anything is offered.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Mumbai depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated based on the following data: departure from London Heathrow Airport, Embraer Legacy 600 Jet, two passengers. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Mumbai?

Mumbai is a little further from Britain than the northern Indian cities, and that extra three hundred nautical miles is exactly the margin that separates aircraft which manage the sector comfortably from those which do not. On an ultra-long-range cabin it is a nine-hour flight and nothing more. On a large jet with less fuel it becomes a technical stop in the Gulf and a considerably longer day:

Why the arrival hour matters more here than the flying time

Mumbai works two runways that cross each other, which means only one of them can be in use at any moment. The airport handles well over nine hundred movements a day on that single usable strip, and it has almost no spare capacity to absorb a delay. An arrival that slots into a quiet window lands and clears in minutes; the same aircraft an hour later can hold. We build the schedule around that rather than around the shortest possible block time, and on a nine-hour sector there is usually room to move the departure by an hour to buy a better arrival.

Private jet flights to Mumbai from Europe and the Gulf

Mumbai is closer to the Gulf than any other major Indian city, and that shapes the traffic more than anything else. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are two hours away, Muscat rather less, and the corridor between the Emirates and Mumbai is one of the busiest private routes anywhere in Asia. A great many of the long-range cabins that serve western India live in that triangle rather than in Europe, which is why a Gulf-positioned aircraft frequently beats a London-positioned one on the same job:

Two habits of this route worth knowing

– The Gulf shuttle runs constantly. Aircraft cross between the Emirates and Mumbai several times a week on business that has nothing to do with you, which means repositioning legs on this pairing are common and often cheap. If your dates can move a day, ask;

– The European legs price above the equivalent flight into northern India, simply because Mumbai sits further south. Vienna to Mumbai costs a few thousand euros more than Vienna to the capital, and the gap widens as the departure point moves north-west. Our empty legs page is worth checking on both corridors.

Departures from any other city are quoted the same way. Where the trip continues on to Goa, Udaipur or the Gulf afterwards, tell us at the enquiry stage rather than later: the domestic sectors are flown on Indian-registered aircraft and slot into the plan far more cheaply when they are known from the start.

Private jet flights from Mumbai

Outbound is where Mumbai shows its real character. It is the departure point for the Konkan coast and Goa, for the Rajasthan wedding circuit, for the Gulf and for the long haul west, and the domestic legs are short enough that a turboprop or a light jet does the job. Note that the internal sectors below are flown on Indian-registered aircraft, for reasons set out further down this page:

Mumbai to Goa: the sector that explains this airport

It is a little over an hour in the air and around ten hours by road, and in December and January it is one of the busiest private pairings in the country. What makes it awkward is not the flying but the ground: departing Mumbai in peak season means competing for a departure slot at an airport with no spare capacity, so we book these legs early and, where a group is moving in both directions, keep the aircraft in Goa rather than sending it back to fight for a stand.

Westbound to Europe the same arithmetic as the inbound applies in reverse: the wind is against you, the sector runs longer, and on a full cabin that is what decides between nonstop and a technical stop. We settle it before the aircraft is chosen rather than on the day.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h (~1,000 €)
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h (~2,000 - 2,900 €)
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h (~2,500 - 3,500 €)

Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h (~5,300 - 6,400 €)
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h (~5,700 - 6,700 €)

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6500 business jets (about 3500 in Europe and 3000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can’t post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. The following jets currently operate in Mumbai:

Ultra-long range

The only class that covers 3,892 nautical miles with a full cabin and no stop. On a route where the arrival hour decides how your day goes, not having to plan a fuel stop is worth more than the hourly rate suggests.

Gulfstream G650ER · 15 seatsfrom £6,800/h
Bombardier Global 7500 · 14 seatsfrom £7,000/h
Dassault Falcon 8X · 14 seatsfrom £6,000/h
Gulfstream G550 · 14 seatsfrom £5,900/h

Large jets

Capable of the sector, but with less margin. Southern India and a headwind can turn this into a technical stop, so we check the loaded range against your passenger count rather than against the brochure figure.

Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom £6,200/h
Bombardier Global 5000 · 13 seatsfrom £5,500/h
Dassault Falcon 900LX · 12 seatsfrom £5,100/h
Embraer Legacy 650E · 13 seatsfrom £4,500/h

From the Gulf

The Emirates sit two hours away, and the fleet based there works western India constantly. For a client already in the region, or for a job where positioning matters more than origin, these are usually the cheapest cabins available.

Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,150/h
Cessna Citation Longitude · 12 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,300/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 12 seatsfrom £4,100/h

Onward inside India

Goa, Pune, Udaipur and the rest of the domestic map are flown on Indian-registered types, because the aircraft that brought you in is not permitted to. Short sectors, modest aircraft, booked as part of the same itinerary.

Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £2,900/h
Hawker 850XP · 8 seatsfrom £3,200/h
Embraer Legacy 600 · 13 seatsfrom £4,400/h
Beechcraft King Air B200 · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h

Business liners

When a wedding party or a production unit moves as one, an airliner cabin carries the group and its freight in a single movement instead of two jets and a cargo problem.

Airbus ACJ319 · 19 seatsfrom £12,000/h
Boeing BBJ · 19 seatsfrom £12,500/h
Airbus ACJ320 · 25 seatsfrom £13,000/h
Boeing BBJ2 · 25 seatsfrom £13,500/h

Business aviation airports in Mumbai

Private flights into the city use Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM / VABB) at Andheri, about eight kilometres north of the older downtown. It is India’s second airport by traffic and, by a wide margin, the most operationally constrained major field in the country. Understanding why makes the difference between a smooth trip and an expensive surprise.

One runway at a time, and what follows from it

Mumbai has two runways, but they cross, so only one can be worked at any moment. On that single strip the airport puts through more than nine hundred and fifty movements a day, and it holds records above a thousand. There is no slack in the system. A thunderstorm sitting on the approach, or a wind shift that forces a change of active runway, does not cause a short delay; it collapses the slot grid, and the recovery takes hours rather than minutes. For a private arrival the practical consequences are three: the slot matters as much as the permit, the parking approval matters as much as the slot, and the hour you choose to land is a genuine variable rather than a preference.

The general aviation terminal sits at Kalina on the south-west side of the field, away from the passenger terminals. It runs to a little over seven hundred and fifty square metres and processes upwards of fifty passengers an hour, with customs and immigration inside the building, lounges with butler service, and aircraft stands immediately outside the door. It also handles air ambulance movements, including organ transport, with a paramedic team and a cardiac ambulance available. In practice a private arrival goes from the aircraft steps to a waiting car in a matter of minutes.

business aviation

Where your aircraft sleeps is a real question here

– Parking at Mumbai is the scarcest commodity in Indian business aviation. On a short visit the aircraft often drops you and repositions out to Pune, Ahmedabad or Goa to wait, returning for the departure. That costs two short ferry legs and saves a good deal more in stand charges and availability risk;

– Landing clearance, the airport slot and the parking approval are three separate things. All three are filed together and well ahead, because holding one of them is not the same as being able to operate;

– Navi Mumbai International, across the harbour, has entered service and is beginning to absorb traffic. It is worth asking about on dates when the main field is saturated, and we price both when that applies.

If the trip continues beyond Mumbai

The aircraft that brings you from Britain cannot then fly you down to Goa or across to Delhi: a foreign-registered jet is barred from carrying passengers between two points inside India. Those sectors go on locally registered aircraft, booked alongside the international charter so the timings hold, and on a Mumbai trip that is a common arrangement rather than an exception. How the restriction works, and what it means for a longer itinerary, is covered on our private jets to India page.

Two other names come up locally. Juhu, a few kilometres north along the coast, is the city’s general aviation aerodrome and in current practice handles helicopter operations rather than business jets, which makes it relevant to your onward transfer rather than to your arrival. Pune, roughly two hours away by road and twenty minutes by air, is the usual overflow field for aircraft waiting between legs.

India requires an entry visa in advance for British passport holders, business trips included, and the check happens inside the private terminal on arrival. It is a passenger matter rather than an aviation one, but it catches people used to booking flights at short notice, so we raise it at the enquiry stage.

From the apron into a city built on a peninsula

Mumbai runs north to south along a narrow strip of land, and almost all of its road traffic runs the same way. That single fact governs every transfer: the distance from the airport to your meeting is rarely the problem, the direction and the hour are. These are the journeys our passengers make and the times we plan against:

Bandra Kurla Complex
the modern financial district, and the shortest run from the airport
20 to 40 minutes
Bandra and Juhu
residential, hotels and the film industry, close to the field
20 to 40 minutes
Lower Parel and Worli
corporate offices in the mid-town belt, transformed by the sea link but still tidal with rush hour
40 to 70 minutes
South Mumbai, Nariman Point and Colaba
the old financial centre, government and the heritage hotels, the longest of the regular runs
50 to 90 minutes
Powai and the eastern suburbs
technology campuses and business parks
30 to 50 minutes
Pune
about 20 minutes by air, and a common second stop on an industrial visit
2 to 3 hours by road

Two things that decide the transfer

– South is expensive in time. The same car to Nariman Point takes fifty minutes at midday and an hour and a half at six in the evening, and no route around it exists. On a tight schedule we would rather land you earlier than promise a quicker drive;

– The monsoon changes the answer entirely. Between June and September a heavy afternoon can make the southbound run unpredictable in a way that no driver can fix, which is when a helicopter from Juhu earns its cost. We flag it rather than assume it.

Flying to Mumbai with a dog or a cat

Animals travel to Mumbai regularly and the cabin part of it is genuinely simple, because on a private aircraft the dog sits beside you rather than in a hold and nobody is measuring its weight. What decides whether the trip works is a piece of British paperwork that has to be done before you ever board, and a piece of Indian paperwork that has to be done before you land.

The one appointment to make before anything else

Coming back into Great Britain from India is not covered by the simple arrangements that apply to European countries. Done from scratch after arrival, the process involves a rabies antibody blood test followed by a three-month wait, which for a fortnight in Mumbai is plainly unworkable. The way around it costs one visit to your own vet at home: draw the sample in Britain before departure, keep the rabies cover unbroken afterwards, and the waiting period never applies. It is the single most valuable thing on this page for anyone travelling with an animal, and the reason we ask about pets at the enquiry stage rather than when the contract is signed.

India’s own requirements apply to a private flight in exactly the way they apply to an airline, and they are checked on arrival:

  • Clearance from the national animal quarantine service is needed before the animal enters the country, obtained ahead of the flight rather than at the border. Mumbai is one of the cities where that service maintains a station, which makes it a workable entry point;
  • Two animals per owner is the limit treated as a pet movement, and a third puts the whole shipment into a different category;
  • Dogs and cats only. Birds, reptiles and anything unusual sit under separate licensing, sometimes with CITES involved, and need considerably longer to arrange;
  • A microchip, rabies vaccination completed well before travel and a current veterinary health certificate, presented together on arrival;
  • For the journey out of India again, a further clearance and a fresh health certificate issued only days before the flight, which has to be timed against your departure rather than arranged whenever convenient.

What Mumbai adds that other Indian cities do not

Humidity. The coastal climate here is heavier than the dry heat of the north, and from March through the monsoon an animal feels it on the apron within minutes. We schedule pet movements into the early morning or after dark, keep the ground time to the formalities and nothing more, and have the car at the aircraft rather than at a gate. If the trip continues to Goa or up to Rajasthan, the onward leg is worth booking on the same day rather than after a night in the city, so the animal makes one journey instead of two.

Rules on both sides change from time to time, so our managers confirm the current position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken. Requirements for species beyond dogs and cats are covered on our flying with pets guide.

The Mumbai calendar: when to come and when to plan harder

Two things shape the aviation year here, and neither is temperature. One is the monsoon, and the other is the wedding and events season, and they sit at opposite ends of the calendar.

The monsoon, and why it hits this airport harder than most

From June to September the south-west monsoon brings heavy rain, thunderstorms and low visibility to the Konkan coast. At an airport with parallel runways that is an inconvenience. At Mumbai, where the two strips cross and only one can be used, it is a capacity problem: a wind shift forces a change of active runway and each switch costs time, reduced visibility widens the spacing between arriving aircraft, and a single storm cell over the approach can stop movements altogether. Because there is no spare capacity to absorb it, an hour of bad weather in the morning still shows up as delays late in the evening. The practical rule that local operators follow is simple and we follow it too: on monsoon dates, fly early. The window from around half past five to eight in the morning is the most reliable of the day by a wide margin.

November to February
comfortable weather, the business calendar at full stretch and the heaviest private traffic of the year
the season
November to February
aircraft, stands and crews all under pressure in waves around auspicious dates, with the Goa and Rajasthan legs booked out first
wedding weeks
March to May
flying is straightforward, apron temperatures are punishing by midday, and payload on departure is worth checking
hot and clear
June to September
dawn departures are the reliable ones; afternoon schedules need a plan B built in
the monsoon
Around the pre-monsoon weeks
the airport closes for planned work windows announced months ahead, which we check against your dates
runway maintenance

Put together: for November to February book five to eight weeks ahead and expect parking to be the binding constraint rather than the aircraft. For monsoon travel, take the early slot and keep the afternoon free. And in either season, if the trip includes a helicopter leg or a hop down to Goa, that is the part of the plan to fix first.

Types of flights

No two Mumbai bookings look alike, and the mix here is different from anywhere else we fly. The city is at once a financial centre, a film industry, an offshore energy hub and the doorstep of the country’s wedding circuit, and each of those produces a distinct kind of charter:

  • Financial and deal travel, frequently at short notice, where the return date is unknown when the outbound is booked and flexibility is the whole point of hiring the aircraft;
  • Group movements to Goa and Rajasthan through the winter, where luggage volume rather than passenger count decides the cabin;
  • Media and production work, with crews, equipment cases and schedules that shift by the hour;
  • Offshore and industrial travel, often combining a jet into the city with rotary movements out to installations or plant sites;
  • Medical transport in both directions, given the standing of the city’s hospitals, arranged with escorts and equipment aboard;
  • Relocations with families and animals, where the calendar is dictated by quarantine paperwork rather than by anyone’s diary.

Two of these carry conditions worth stating plainly. Medical flights need the treating hospital’s clearance and, on a nine-hour sector with an escort aboard, a crew plan that accounts for the duty limits. Group charters in wedding season compete for the same scarce parking as everyone else, so the aircraft is usually released to wait elsewhere between legs rather than held in the city.

As for speed: inside Europe we arrange urgent departures the same day. India is the exception on this site, because the landing clearance runs to several working days and no amount of goodwill compresses it. Requests for Mumbai should reach us with that in mind.

Empty Legs

When an aircraft has to fly somewhere with nobody aboard, the operator would rather sell that flight cheaply than fly it for nothing. Those are empty legs, and western India produces an unusual number of them for one specific reason: the Emirates.

Three patterns on this route

– The Gulf shuttle. Aircraft cross between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Mumbai constantly, the sector is two hours, and one direction of any given trip is frequently empty. These are the cheapest legs we see anywhere on the Indian map;

– The long westbound. Very few ultra-long-range cabins live in India, so almost every one that arrives eventually leaves, and a jet heading back to Europe with four days’ notice is a genuine opportunity on a sector that normally costs seventy thousand euros;

– The domestic repositioning. Aircraft pushed out of Mumbai to Pune, Ahmedabad or Goa because there is no stand for them are, by definition, flying empty in both directions.

The discount runs from around half to three quarters off a fresh charter, and what you give up is control. The date belongs to the aircraft, the departure hour can move, and a leg disappears the moment the original client changes plans. On a two-hour Gulf hop that is a reasonable gamble. On a nine-hour intercontinental flight with a meeting at the far end, rather less so, which is why we present these as an opportunity to watch rather than a schedule to rely on. Send us the week you have in mind and we will flag what appears; current offers sit on our empty legs page.

Jet Sharing

Sharing means several parties buying seats on one aircraft that is going their way, with the cost of the cabin divided instead of falling on a single client. It is worth being straight about how well that translates to this particular route.

Not especially well on the long haul, and the reason is arithmetic rather than reluctance. Divide a seventy-thousand-euro cabin among eight people and the seat is still several thousand pounds, so the audience is narrow, and the aircraft capable of the sector are few and heavily committed. Where sharing genuinely works around Mumbai is on the short legs: the Gulf run, the hop down to Goa in December, and the Rajasthan wedding traffic, where groups are already moving with spare seats and the price per head lands somewhere sensible.

What a shared seat still gets you

– The general aviation terminal at both ends, which on a Mumbai departure in peak season is worth a good deal on its own;

– Baggage judged by what fits rather than by an allowance, and animals in the cabin subject to the paperwork described above;

– The same catering, crew and cabin as a sole-use charter, because it is the same aircraft; the only difference is who else is sitting in it.

If this interests you, give us a week rather than a date and tell us how many are travelling. We match those requests against movements we already know about and come back when something lines up. It is slower than booking an aircraft outright, and considerably cheaper.

Mumbai is the one Indian city where a helicopter is less about the view than about the map. The city occupies a peninsula, the roads run in one direction, and the airport sits at the northern end of the developed strip. When the monsoon is running or an evening meeting is in the south, a rotary transfer is not indulgence but the only way of keeping the day intact. The city’s general aviation aerodrome at Juhu, a few kilometres up the coast, is the base for most of that flying.

What has to be settled in advance

– Rotary movements carry their own permissions and landing site approvals, separate from the jet clearance, so we ask about onward transfers when the charter is first discussed rather than after it is confirmed;

– The monsoon governs everything between June and September. Rotary flying needs conditions that a heavy afternoon does not provide, so we plan a road alternative into the same day rather than presenting the helicopter as certain;

– Machines are Indian-registered and locally operated, which also answers the internal movement question: a helicopter booked here may carry you between Indian points, while the foreign jet that brought you may not.

Types in regular use run from the single-engine Airbus H125 for short city hops to twin-engine H145 and AgustaWestland AW139 cabins for coastal and offshore work, where two engines over water are the sensible minimum. We book the jet and the helicopter as one movement so the rotary crew has your arrival time before you leave Britain.

Mumbai charters from the booking notes: six recent trips

How the route behaves once it leaves the price list. Six jobs from recent months, taken from the desk notes, with surnames reduced to initials and some particulars altered.

FINANCE · STAND SHUFFLE

Mr K. P.: two days of meetings and an aircraft with nowhere to sit

Farnborough - Mumbai, Gulfstream G550, about 9 h 05 min · 4 pax

A short investment trip in a busy November week, when stands at Mumbai were spoken for well beyond our dates. The jet dropped the party in the morning, flew twenty minutes to Pune and waited there, then came back for the evening departure two days later. Two short ferry legs cost less than the stand would have, assuming one had been available at all, and the client noticed nothing except that the car was waiting both times.

MONSOON · DAWN SLOT

The V. group: an August arrival, and the hour that saved it

London - Mumbai, Dassault Falcon 8X, about 9 h 10 min · 6 pax

They wanted to land mid-afternoon, which in the monsoon is the least reliable window of the day at this airport. We moved the departure back so the arrival fell in the early morning instead. A storm cell parked over the approach that afternoon and pushed arrivals into the evening; our passengers had been in their hotel since breakfast. On this route the arrival hour is not a preference, it is part of the plan.

WEDDING · GOA

The M. family: Mumbai first, then down the coast

London - Mumbai + Indian-registered jet to Goa · 11 pax

A December wedding on the Konkan coast with guests gathering in Mumbai first. The international leg came in on a heavy cabin; the hop to Goa, an hour in the air against ten by road, went on a locally registered Citation because a foreign aircraft may not fly passengers between two Indian points. Both legs were booked together, and the aircraft stayed in Goa rather than fighting for a Mumbai stand over the weekend.

MEDICAL · INBOUND

Mrs S. R.: treatment in the city, and a terminal that mattered

Mumbai - London, Bombardier Global 7500, about 9 h 40 min · patient, spouse, nurse

A patient flying home after a course of treatment, cleared to travel but not to sit for long in a public terminal. The general aviation terminal handles medical movements including ambulance access to the aircraft, so the transfer happened airside with a car to the steps. The nonstop cabin was chosen for the same reason as always on medical work: a technical stop with a patient aboard is a complication nobody needs.

CORPORATE · GULF LEG

A Dubai-based group: two hours instead of nine

Dubai - Mumbai, Bombardier Challenger 605, about 2 h 15 min · 8 pax

A reminder that not everything on this route comes from Europe. The client keeps an aircraft in the Emirates, and the Mumbai run is short enough to be a day trip: out in the morning, meetings, back by evening, with no crew rest question at all. This corridor is busy enough that repositioning legs on it appear regularly, and we watch it for clients whose dates can flex.

EMPTY LEG · WESTBOUND

Mr A. D.: an aircraft that was going home anyway

Mumbai - London, Global 6000 empty leg, about 9 h 30 min · 3 pax

A jet that had delivered a group into Mumbai and was due back at its European base four days later, with the seats otherwise empty. The client paid a little over half a fresh one-way. Legs like this surface on the westbound side of this route more often than the eastbound, because so few long-range aircraft are actually based in India and almost all of them eventually go home.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Mumbai

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Mumbai?

About nine hours nonstop on an ultra-long-range aircraft such as a G550, Falcon 8X or Global 7500, covering roughly 7,200 km. From Scotland or Northern Ireland allow twenty to thirty minutes more. A large jet with less fuel makes the trip with a technical stop in the Gulf, which adds around two hours to the day. Westbound is longer again because the wind is against you.

2How much does a private jet from London to Mumbai cost?

From about 70,000 EUR one way on a long-range cabin, and 75,000 to 78,000 EUR from Scotland or Belfast. An airliner-sized aircraft for a group of eighteen or more starts around 118,000 EUR. From the Gulf the picture changes completely: Dubai to Mumbai starts near 19,500 EUR for a two-hour sector.

3Which airport do private jets use in Mumbai?

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM / VABB) at Andheri, which operates around the clock. Private flights are handled at the general aviation terminal at Kalina, with customs and immigration inside the building and aircraft stands immediately outside. Juhu, up the coast, handles helicopter operations rather than business jets.

4Why is parking such an issue at Mumbai airport?

Because the two runways cross, only one can be used at a time, and the airport puts more than 950 movements a day through it. Stands are correspondingly scarce. On short visits the aircraft commonly drops passengers and repositions to Pune, Ahmedabad or Goa to wait, returning for the departure, which usually costs less than holding a stand in the city.

5When is the worst time to fly into Mumbai?

The monsoon, from June to September, and specifically the afternoons. Thunderstorms and wind shifts reduce an already tight runway to a queue, and delays that begin in the morning persist into the evening. Early departures, roughly between half past five and eight, are the reliable window. November to February is the busiest and easiest season, but parking must be booked well ahead.
