Private jet charter in Reus

Leave a London airfield at breakfast time and a light jet puts you on the Costa Daurada, about 1 hour 55 minutes later, with the day still ahead of you. Private Jets UK plans the charter around the airport at Reus, a field with one long runway, its own executive terminal and the beaches of Salou a quarter of an hour down the road. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Reus has a single asphalt runway of 2,459 m, customs and immigration during airport hours, and a handful of general aviation handlers on the field, and it lies about 105 km by road south-west of central Barcelona. The questions that matter are the hour you land, because the airport closes in the evening, and the clearance request that every business flight needs before it arrives.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Reus depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Reus (REU)?

Hold on to the figure of just under two hours: 1 hour 55 minutes from Biggin Hill and Farnborough in a light jet, close to two hours from Luton, Stansted, Bristol and Cardiff, and 2 hours 25 minutes from Glasgow in a super-midsize. Spain keeps the same clock change as Britain and stays one hour ahead all year, so a departure at eight lands a little before eleven local time. The British fields we use lie 638 to 947 nautical miles from Reus, which makes the flight a light-jet sector from the south of England and a midsize job from the Midlands and the north. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave Farnborough at eight and the wheels touch at Reus a little before eleven by the Spanish clock, in time for lunch in Salou or Tarragona. The runway lies about 3 km east of the town of Reus and, by road, roughly 13 km from the centre of Tarragona and 15 minutes from the gates of PortAventura. What does not forgive is the evening. The airport data publishes its hours in UTC, and we convert them before we quote a single time: on the wall clock the airport is open from 08:00 to midnight in summer and from 08:00 to 22:00 in winter, with customs, immigration, handling and fuelling all listed as available during those hours. A party that wants a dinner in Tarragona before flying home plans the departure inside that window.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to four people with ordinary bags, take a light jet. A flight of 1 hour 55 minutes in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is an easy sector, and the difference against a midsize cabin buys the car, the better hotel or the table at the winery;

– Five to seven people, or a family with the luggage of a fortnight at the beach, get a midsize quote beside the light one so that both figures are on the table. Prams, golf bags and bike boxes fill a baggage hold before they fill the seats;

– A heavy jet earns its place with a large party or when Reus is one stop in a longer programme. The runway takes almost anything, but the stands are another matter: the airport data limits the widest aircraft to a single parking position and a code D aircraft to a handful, so the biggest VIP types are agreed with the handler before the quote is final.

Private jet flights from Reus

Reus is a handy base for the rest of Catalonia and the Mediterranean coast. Barcelona is a hop of about half an hour in a turboprop, Valencia, Palma and Ibiza fit inside an hour, and Madrid, Nice and Geneva are short business sectors. Typical one-way prices:

Onward from Reus: when the aircraft wins and when the road does

Barcelona is 44 nautical miles away, about 30 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, but the motorway covers the same ground in about an hour to the airport and an hour and twenty minutes to the city centre, so the aircraft pays only for a large party or a tight connection on the same ramp. The islands are where the wings matter: Palma is 125 nautical miles, about 50 minutes, and Ibiza 142, about 55 minutes. It is the same water that the fleet of James I crossed when it sailed from Salou for Mallorca in the Middle Ages. A PC-12 to Barcelona, Valencia, Palma or Ibiza is quoted at one figure, £3,100, because a short sector is billed against a minimum, and that is why a hop of half an hour can cost as much as one of an hour. Spain and France are both in the Schengen area, so the first landing carries the formalities and the hops after it are free of passport control.

Before you accept an onward quote

– Which airport at the far end. Barcelona wants a slot for every movement and gives departures no tolerance, the island airports are crowded in July and August, and parking and handling should be checked before the quote is written, not after it;

– Whether the legs are one booking. Reus to Palma to Valencia and home over a long weekend costs noticeably less arranged as one trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of returning to base between stops.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Reus:

Light jets, the usual choice for four or five people

Just under two hours from London is an easy sector for a small party with ordinary luggage. Nothing here lacks the range, so the money is better spent on the car, the hotel and the table than on a larger cabin you will not fill.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for six to eight people and the bulky luggage

A family weekend at PortAventura, a golf party or a group heading for the Priorat fills a hold faster than it fills seats, and the northern and Scottish departures add enough distance to favour the larger cabin.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a team that wants to work in the air, a party travelling as one group, or a trip that carries on from Reus to the islands or the Alps. The runway takes all of these, and only the widest types need the stands agreed first.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the hops along the coast and out to the Balearics: Barcelona, Valencia, Palma and Ibiza are an hour or less in the air, and the saving over a jet on those distances is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a hotel in the Priorat hills, a lunch at Poblet, a loop over the Ebro delta or a transfer north towards Montserrat. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

Airbus H135 · 6 seatson request
Bell 429 · 6 seatson request

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Reus is a regional airport, and Barcelona, an hour up the motorway, has the heavier business traffic, so a quote may name Barcelona, Girona or Valencia as the positioning point. That is normal for a regional field, and it is often where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports for Reus

One airport carries most trips to the Costa Daurada, and three more matter when the programme moves north, the aircraft is very large or the arrival falls outside the Reus hours. Which one is right depends on where the meeting is and at what hour you will land, not on the aircraft.

Airport What it gives you
Reus
REU / LERS
The answer for Salou, PortAventura, Tarragona, Reus itself, the Priorat and the Ebro delta. The runway is 07/25, 2,459 m by 45 m in asphalt, with an ILS Category I on runway 25 and Jet A-1 and 100LL on the field. The airport lies about 3 km east of the town of Reus, and runway 25 is the preferred direction. Customs and immigration, handling and fuelling are published for airport hours, which in local time are 08:00 to midnight in summer and 08:00 to 22:00 in winter, with no de-icing. The general aviation handlers listed are Jetex Executive Aviation Spain, United Aviation Services and General Aviation Services, and every business flight needs clearance from the Aena coordination office before it arrives
Barcelona El Prat
BCN / LEBL
The big alternative, about 78 km from Reus in a straight line and about 96 km by road. Three runways of 3,743 m, 2,660 m and 2,528 m, a general aviation terminal with customs and immigration on site round the clock and room for about forty business aircraft, and no night curfew for aircraft that meet the Stage 3 noise standard. Every movement needs a slot and departures have no tolerance. It is the right choice for Barcelona itself, for Montmeló and the trade fairs, for a landing after the Reus airport has closed, and for the aircraft too large for the Reus stands
Girona-Costa Brava
GRO / LEGE
A runway of 2,400 m by 45 m about 157 km north-east of Reus in a straight line, with customs and immigration during airport hours and an airport listed as open round the clock. It serves the Costa Brava and the Dalí country and is no substitute for Reus on the Costa Daurada, but it is a useful positioning point and a landing option when a late programme ends in the north. Business flights need clearance from the airport three hours ahead
Sabadell
LELL
A flying-club and general aviation field about 20 km from Barcelona, with a single runway of 1,049 m whose declared distances are only 899 m, open in daylight hours. It appears in lists of Barcelona airfields, but traffic from outside the Schengen area is not allowed, so a charter from Britain cannot land there. It is a field for light aircraft hopping within Schengen, and not an option for the flight from London

Four things to settle before a Reus landing:

The handler and its services

A handling agent is compulsory for every commercial flight at Reus, and non-commercial aircraft need one too if they park on the commercial apron or on the general aviation ramp AG3. The airport data lists Jetex Executive Aviation Spain, United Aviation Services and General Aviation Services for general aviation, and the commercial ramp is served by South. Jetex describes an executive terminal with a crew lounge, an executive lounge and meeting rooms, with parking in front of the building. We choose by what the party needs: a lounge, crew rest, catering, a car at the door.

Hours, clearance and the clock

Business and general aviation flights must request clearance from the Aena coordination office (CECOA) before they arrive, giving the aircraft type, registration, weight, operator, times, handler and type of flight, and clearance depends on apron capacity. The published hours are in UTC, so we convert: the airport is open from 08:00 to midnight in summer and from 08:00 to 22:00 in winter local time, and the longer hours with a prior request are listed for commercial aviation only. A private flight plans to be on the ground well before closing.

Border and passport

Spain is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival at Reus, an ordinary external-border airport that already runs passport control for the airlines' flights to Britain. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked to register a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system, which is free.

Car, stands and late nights

Tell us the handler as well as the flight so that the driver waits at the right door. The runway is long, but the apron has limits: the widest aircraft and the larger airliner-size VIP types are confined to a few stands. There is no de-icing, and nothing lands after closing, so for a late programme we quote Barcelona beside Reus, with a drive of about an hour.

business aviation

Border, passport and the way home

The first landing in the Schengen area is where the formalities happen, and at Reus they are short because the handler knows the aircraft in advance and customs and immigration work during the airport hours. After that the border disappears. A flight on to Palma, Valencia or Nice needs no further passport control, although temporary checks can be reintroduced at internal borders and a car can still be stopped for a document check. For the return, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, which is why the passenger list and the passport numbers reach us early. Carry your passport at hotel check-in, and keep the aircraft paperwork with the crew.

From the apron to the Costa Daurada

Reus sits in the middle of a coast that most visitors know only through the beach resorts, and that is a mistake. Within an hour or so of the runway there are a theme-park resort, a Roman city on the list of UNESCO sites, a town of modernist houses, a famous red-wine country, a climbing village on a cliff and a river delta full of birds. What matters to a private client is how much of it fits into a morning.

Reus airport to the town of Reus
about 3 km west of the runway, with the Gaudí Centre and the modernist houses
typically 15 minutes
Reus airport to Salou and PortAventura
about 8 km in a straight line to Salou and 7 km to the resort gates
typically 15 minutes
Reus airport to Tarragona
about 7 km in a straight line to the Roman amphitheatre by the sea, about 13 km by road
typically 20 minutes
Reus to Falset and the Priorat
about 29 km in a straight line to the capital of the wine country
typically 45 minutes
Reus to Siurana
about 23 km in a straight line to the cliff-top village above the reservoir
typically 55 minutes
Reus to the Ebro delta
about 61 km in a straight line to Deltebre and the rice fields
typically 1 hour 15 minutes
Reus to Montserrat
about 75 km in a straight line to the mountain and the abbey
typically 1 hour 30 minutes
Reus to the Montmeló circuit
about 103 km in a straight line to the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit
typically 1 hour 20 minutes
Reus to Barcelona
about 96 km by road to El Prat and about 105 km to the city centre
typically 1 hour to the airport

PortAventura World is the reason many families fly to Reus. The resort spreads over some 119 hectares between Salou and Vila-seca and holds three parks: PortAventura Park, Ferrari Land, where the Red Force coaster climbs to about 112 m and reaches about 180 km/h, and the Caribe Aquatic Park. It has six themed hotels on site, five of them rated four stars and the Mansión de Lucy five, and a convention centre as well, so companies use it for meetings. Halloween fills the autumn months and Christmas the weeks from November into January. Salou itself is a town of about 31,000 people with long beaches along Passeig Jaume I, a 16th-century defence tower, the illuminated Font Lluminosa and three golf courses at the Lumine club.

Tarragona is the other reason, and the Romans are the draw. The Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco is on the UNESCO list: Tarraco was the first Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula and the centre of the imperial cult for the Iberian provinces, and the listing takes in the amphitheatre, the circus, the provincial forum, the walls, the theatre, the Mèdol quarry, the Centcelles villa and mausoleum, the Berà arch and the aqueduct of Les Ferreres. The amphitheatre stands beside the sea, and the Serrallo fishing quarter is known for its seafood. Reus, a few minutes inland, is where the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner built Casa Navàs, Casa Gasull, Casa Rull and the Institut Pere Mata. Antoni Gaudí was baptised in the priory church of Sant Pere in Reus, the Gaudí Centre stands on the Plaça del Mercadal, and there are doubts whether he was born in Reus or in neighbouring Riudoms, where his father's family came from. Gaudí built nothing in Reus himself.

To the west and north-west lie the places that make a longer stay worth the aircraft. The Priorat is one of only two qualified wine regions in Spain, the other being Rioja, and its vines of Garnatxa and Cariñena grow on black and red slate known as llicorella, in villages such as Gratallops, Porrera and Torroja. Siurana stands on the edge of an escarpment above its reservoir and is a place of pilgrimage for sport climbers, with routes up to the top of the scale. The Poblet monastery, founded by Ramon Berenguer IV and the burial place of kings, lies about 50 km north of Tarragona. To the south the Ebro delta covers about 320 square kilometres, with rice fields that carry a protected designation, a natural park, more than 300 migratory and wintering bird species and, in October and November, large flocks of flamingos. Further away, the circuit at Montmeló and the mountain of Montserrat, with its Benedictine abbey and the Black Madonna, are an outing for a long day and not a morning.

Flying to Reus with a dog or a cat

Pets are routine passengers on this route, and a private flight removes the worst of it: the animal sits in the cabin beside you, with no hold and no kennel queue, on a sector of under two hours. What deserves attention is the paperwork at both ends, above all the date on the health certificate, which counts for only ten days.

private flight with animals

What Spain asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or on the same day;
  • A rabies vaccination given from 12 weeks of age, with 21 days elapsed after the first vaccination before the animal enters Spain, and Spain does not admit a dog, cat or ferret under 15 weeks;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU, with the owner's written declaration that the journey is not commercial. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
  • Entry through a travellers' point of entry authorised by the Ministry of Agriculture. Reus is on that list, and the animal and its papers are declared to the customs service of the Civil Guard on arrival; an animal brought in through any other customs office is sent back to its country of origin. No more than five animals may travel with one person;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Reus run

– Spain does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, only Britain asks for it on the way home, so it is a vet appointment you book in Catalonia towards the end of the stay. Count back from the departure time, because the window is 24 to 120 hours and a flight that moves by a day can move the window out of reach;

– The order of the chip and the vaccine matters, and so does the airport. A vaccination given before the microchip does not count. The Ministry list shows Reus with redispatch to the country of origin as the measure for a non-compliant animal and no isolation agreement, and the airport data adds that a carrier bringing a pet in the cabin must have a handling agent who can deal with an animal refused at the border, so the certificate and the handler are checked line by line before the flight, not at the airport;

– Catalonia keeps its own list of breeds classed as potentially dangerous, with rules on licence, insurance, muzzle and lead. The guidance we found does not say how they are applied to a visitor, so tell us the breed when you ask for the quote, not afterwards.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Reus calendar: a long beach season, Tarragona's September and the races up the coast

Reus has a high season, but it is longer and gentler than the headlines of the resorts suggest. The summer belongs to the beach and the theme parks, spring and autumn belong to the cultural trips and the wine country, and a motorsport calendar a good hour up the motorway sits on top of all three. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

January to March
Valls holds its calçot festival at the end of January, when the grilled spring onions with romesco sauce are at their height. Falset has its Encamisada in mid-January, Salou its Cos Blanc parade on the first Saturday of February, and Reus and Tarragona both run a Carnival. Formula 1 teams have used the Montmeló circuit for closed-door pre-season running in some years. Highs are about 15 degrees and the Roman sites are often nearly empty
April and May
Spring is the best time for the cultural trips, with highs of about 20 degrees, and the PortAventura parks are open. Tarragona holds Tarraco Viva in May, about two weeks of Roman events with gladiator displays, mostly free. The MotoGP round at Montmeló is run in spring, and guests who come for it often add a few days on the coast
June
The Barcelona-Catalunya Formula 1 Grand Prix is run at Montmeló in the seasons when the race is held there, and Reus keeps its main festival, Sant Pere, on 29 June. Formula 1 announced a rotation in which Barcelona alternates with the Belgian round, and the Spanish Grand Prix name has passed to a street race in Madrid, so the calendar for your season is checked first. Barcelona takes most of the traffic, and Reus is the alternative for guests staying on the coast, with a drive of about an hour and twenty minutes to the circuit
July and August
The high season on the coast, with highs of about 29 degrees and the sea warm enough for swimming from June to September. PortAventura runs its nightly FiestaAventura show from late June to late August, and Salou keeps its Nits Daurades festival in the week of 15 August. Hotels and cars are tightest at the weekends
September
Tarragona's Santa Tecla, about ten days of parades, fireworks and human-tower competitions among the local colles, from the middle of the month, and Reus honours the Mare de Déu de la Misericòrdia on 25 September. Highs are still near 23 degrees, and the PortAventura Halloween season begins
October and November
The Ebro delta, where flamingos gather in large flocks in these months, and the Halloween season at PortAventura into November. October is one of the wetter months, crowds fall sharply in November, and Tarragona's Roman sites are quiet again
December and early January
Christmas at PortAventura, which runs from November into January, and the Christmas lights and fair on the Rambla Nova in Tarragona. The weather is mild at about 15 degrees by day, and a short break in the sun is the usual brief

Why a busy weekend costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Reus is well placed in it, with Barcelona, Valencia and the islands all close. What tightens is the airport itself, since every business flight needs clearance that depends on apron capacity, together with the hotel rooms, the cars and the tables. A booking made two weeks before Santa Tecla or a July weekend can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Barcelona or Valencia, and that costs more. The same booking made four or five weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks a charter to Reus can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Reus price down

  • Move the dates by a few days where you can. A weekday in May or late September is calmer than a summer Saturday or the Santa Tecla weekend;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Barcelona, Valencia or the south of France needs less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of under two hours positioning is a meaningful part of the bill;
  • Check whether another field works as well. From Biggin Hill the light-jet fare to Barcelona is within about £50 of the Reus fare, so the price is not the reason to choose. Let the place of the meeting and the hour of the landing decide.

Types of flights

Reus produces a different mix from the big-city destinations we cover, because it serves a resort, a wine country, a Roman city and a family holiday coast at the same time, through an airport that is quiet enough to be easy and long enough to take almost anything.

  • Family weekends and short stays at PortAventura and Salou, usually four to seven people with children, a pram and a good deal of luggage;
  • Golf parties, for whom the hold counts for more than the seat count, with the Lumine courses near Salou and a villa or a hotel on the coast;
  • Culture trips to Tarragona and Reus, one or two nights, with the Roman sites and the modernist route on foot;
  • Wine weekends in the Priorat, a small party and a driver, often combined with Siurana, Poblet or a lunch in a cellar;
  • Motorsport at Montmeló, for guests who base themselves on the coast and fly in on the Friday, with Barcelona as the first choice and Reus as the alternative;
  • Business and incentive trips to the PortAventura convention centre, and onward hops to Barcelona, Valencia, Palma and Ibiza inside a longer Mediterranean programme.

The day trip deserves a closer look. Leave a London field at eight in the morning, land at Reus a little before eleven local time, take the car to Tarragona for the amphitheatre and lunch at the Serrallo, and fly out at six in the evening local time, which puts you back on the British side at about seven British time, with seven hours on the ground in between. Because the airport closes at 22:00 in winter and at midnight in summer, the day can stretch into the evening, with a dinner in Tarragona and a departure at nine, but no later. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote the day return and the overnight side by side, so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody on board, sold at a discount on the usual fare. At Reus they follow the season rather than a timetable, and it helps to know where they come from.

Where Reus empty legs come from

– Resort changeovers. Families and golf parties arrive on a Friday or Saturday and the aircraft goes home empty, which puts a leg towards Britain on the market on the same day;

– Race, festival and convention weekends. Aircraft that take guests to Barcelona or to the PortAventura convention centre often reposition through Reus, Girona or Valencia, and the short legs between them can be cheap;

– The shoulder months. In the shoulder months, October and the early spring, aircraft that have brought a party out leave empty more often than in July.

Because the corridor between Britain and Catalonia is a busy one, a client who can name a few days rather than a single date has a better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Reus match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

On the Costa Daurada a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip. The beaches are a few minutes from the runway, so there is nothing to save there, but the hills are another matter: the Priorat, Siurana and Poblet are an hour or more by winding road, and the delta lies far to the south. That is where rotary flight changes the day.

Reus to Poblet
15 nm in a straight line to the monastery, against about 40 minutes by road
about 16 minutes
Reus to Falset and the Priorat
16 nm in a straight line to the heart of the wine country, against about 45 minutes by road
about 16 minutes
Reus to the Ebro delta
34 nm in a straight line to Deltebre, against more than an hour by road
about 26 minutes
Reus to Montserrat
42 nm in a straight line to the mountain, against about an hour and a half by road
about 30 minutes
Reus to the Montmeló circuit
58 nm in a straight line to the circuit, against about an hour and twenty minutes by road
about 38 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent, so we check the status of a hotel lawn, a winery or a field before the quote is written, and in a protected area such as the Ebro delta park or the Montserrat park the park rules come first;

– Weather sets the schedule. Wind and low cloud can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– The flight from Britain and the helicopter are best booked together, with both crews working to one timetable and the helicopter's last departure set well inside daylight.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for scenic work, the wider H130 for hotel and villa transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Reus charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

FAMILY WEEKEND · PORTAVENTURA

Two adults, three children and a pram

Farnborough - Reus, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 55 min · 5 pax

Wheels up on Friday morning and on the ground a little before lunch local time, with the car at the handler's door and the resort a quarter of an hour away. The question that took time was the pram, the bags and a folding cot, which the baggage list answered before the seat count did. The return was set for Sunday afternoon, well before the airport closes.

WINE WEEKEND · PRIORAT

Four friends, a driver and two cellars

London City - Reus, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 55 min · 4 pax

The aircraft landed at about eleven and the driver took them up through the hills to Falset for lunch, with the cellar visits booked before the flight and a table at a village restaurant. The party slept in the Priorat for two nights and flew home on the Sunday evening, with the departure set for early afternoon so that nobody was racing the clock.

GOLF · EIGHT PLAYERS

A week on the courses near Salou

Birmingham - Reus, Citation XLS+, about 2 h · 8 pax

Eight sets of clubs decided the booking before the number of seats did. We quoted a light jet alongside, checked the hold of each against the luggage list, and the midsize won. The handler arranged two minibuses for the transfer, and the return was booked at the same hour, a week later.

DAY TRIP · TARRAGONA AND REUS

Out in the morning, home for dinner

London Stansted - Reus, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h · 3 pax

Wheels up at eight and on the ground at about eleven local time, then the amphitheatre by the sea, lunch at the Serrallo and an afternoon on the modernist route in Reus. The aircraft waited at the handler's lounge and left at six, with the passenger details filed for the return the day before. A long day, and it works.

A DOG ON BOARD · LONG WEEKEND

Two adults and a Labrador

Bristol - Reus, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h · 2 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Catalonia for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. Reus is on the Ministry's list of authorised points of entry for pets. We booked the flight and the paperwork together and settled the whole thing in one exchange of messages rather than three.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING HOME

A jet already going your way

Reus - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 50 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a family out for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday afternoon departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Reus

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Reus?

About 1 hour 55 minutes from Biggin Hill, Farnborough and London City in a light jet, 2 hours from Stansted and 1 hour 50 minutes from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 638 to 673 nautical miles. From Birmingham allow about 2 hours and from Manchester 2 hours 10 minutes, from Newcastle 2 hours 20 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow 2 hours 25 minutes. Spain is one hour ahead of Britain, so a departure at eight lands a little before eleven local time.

2How much does a private jet to Reus cost?

From about £9,150 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill or Farnborough, £9,300 from London City, and £9,600 in a Phenom from Luton. A midsize cabin runs £12,500 to £13,350 from Birmingham and Manchester, and from Scotland allow £19,550 to £19,650. The summer weekends, the Santa Tecla week and the race weekends at Montmeló can price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use, Reus, Barcelona, Girona or Sabadell?

Reus (REU / LERS) for Salou, PortAventura, Tarragona and the Priorat. It has a 2,459 m runway and customs during airport hours, and every business flight needs clearance in advance. Barcelona El Prat (BCN / LEBL) is for Barcelona, Montmeló and the trade fairs, has a general aviation terminal open round the clock and needs a slot, and it is the choice for a landing after Reus has closed. Girona-Costa Brava (GRO / LEGE) serves the Costa Brava and is a positioning option. Sabadell cannot take traffic from outside Schengen. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill the fares to Barcelona and Girona are within about £500 of the Reus fare, so the place and the hour of the meeting decide.

4Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Reus, and when does the airport close?

Britain is outside Schengen and Spain is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival at Reus. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. The airport publishes its hours in UTC, and in local time it is open from 08:00 to midnight in summer and from 08:00 to 22:00 in winter, with customs, immigration, handling and fuelling during those hours. Every business flight needs clearance from the airport coordination office before it arrives, which we arrange with the handler.

5How far are PortAventura, Tarragona, the Priorat and Montmeló from the airport?

PortAventura is about 7 km in a straight line, typically 15 minutes by road, and Salou is about 8 km. Tarragona is about 7 km in a straight line and about 13 km by road. Falset in the Priorat is about 29 km, typically 45 minutes, and Siurana about 23 km. The Ebro delta is about 61 km, Montserrat about 75 km and the Montmeló circuit about 103 km, typically 1 hour 20 minutes. A helicopter covers Falset in about 16 minutes if the landing site is agreed first.

6Can I take my dog to Reus on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Spain asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given from 12 weeks of age with 21 days elapsed, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used, and the animal must enter through an authorised point of entry, of which Reus is one. Spain does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, but a dog needs one from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment, and Catalonia keeps a list of breeds classed as potentially dangerous.
