Private jet charter in Colmar
A jet from London crosses the Channel and reaches the Alsace plain in about an hour and a quarter, and the decision that shapes the trip is where it lands, because Colmar has a small airfield of its own and two larger airports, Basel-Mulhouse and Strasbourg, each within about an hour of the town by road. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that choice. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Colmar-Houssen has a 1,610 m runway for light jets, EuroAirport has the handlers and customs offices that most business jets need, and Strasbourg is the second large option with a customs office of its own. What remains is the calendar, since the Christmas markets and the wine fair in the summer fill the hotels of the old town long before they fill the aircraft.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Colmar depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill to EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse, an Embraer Phenom 300E and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Colmar?
About an hour and ten minutes from Biggin Hill in a Phenom 300E, just under two hours from Edinburgh, and a clock that is one hour ahead of Britain on arrival, because France keeps Central European time. Colmar has no airline airport, so we price the sector to EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse, the airport with the full set of business handlers, and add a car for the last hour. From the British fields we use it is 383 to 691 nautical miles, a short hop for a light jet from the south of England and a super-midsize from Scotland. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the road from the apron
Leave Biggin Hill at seven and the wheels touch at EuroAirport at about ten past nine local time, with the clock one hour ahead of Britain. Colmar lies about 60 km north of the airport and the drive takes roughly 50 minutes, so a client who walked out of a London office at half past six is on a terrace in the old town a little after half past ten. Colmar-Houssen would save most of that drive, since its apron is about a kilometre from the centre, and a Phenom to it takes 1 h 10 min from Biggin Hill, but it is a small field with short staffed hours, and the next section explains when it is the right choice and when it is not.
Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route
– Up to four people with ordinary bags, take a light jet. It is the class that suits the runway at Colmar-Houssen, and at an hour and a quarter in a CJ3+ or a Phenom the cabin is no hardship. Because the runway is strength-rated for light aircraft, we check the weight of the exact type before the quote goes out;
– Five to nine people, or four with cases of wine, skis for the Vosges and Christmas shopping, we quote a midsize jet into EuroAirport or Strasbourg alongside the light jet. The hold fills faster than the seats on a trip to Alsace, and a midsize cabin is what the return flight with the cases needs;
– A heavy jet is worth considering for a large party, or when the flight carries on to the Gulf or the Riviera. Both EuroAirport and Strasbourg take it without difficulty, and Colmar-Houssen does not.

Prices for the private jet flights to Colmar
Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them priced to a business aviation handler at EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse, with the car to Colmar quoted alongside. The Christmas market weeks and the wine fair at the start of August can price above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

The same Biggin Hill departure in a Phenom 300E, priced to each of the three airports we use for Colmar, one way:
383 nm, about 60 km by road to Colmar, handlers and customs on sitefrom £6,250
357 nm, about a kilometre from the centre, light jets only, customs on noticefrom £5,950
351 nm, about 68 km from Colmar, customs office and a general aviation terminalfrom £5,900
The three figures sit within a few hundred pounds of each other, so the choice is made on the road time, the facilities and the hours of the day, and not on the flight price. Which one fits which trip is set out in the airports section below.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Private jet flights from Colmar
Colmar sits between Switzerland, Germany and Paris, so a flight out of it goes in all directions at short range. Zurich and Geneva are an hour or less by turboprop, Paris and Munich fit in a light-jet hour, and the Riviera and the Gulf are the longer sectors. The first group below leaves from Colmar-Houssen in aircraft light enough for its runway, the second from EuroAirport. Typical one-way prices:

Onward from Colmar: when the aircraft wins and when the car does
Basel and Strasbourg are close enough that nobody flies between them and Colmar: the road takes about an hour, and a jet would need most of that for the taxi and the clearance. The aircraft earns its place on the longer legs. Zurich is 64 nautical miles from Colmar-Houssen and Geneva 128, each about 50 minutes or less in a turboprop, and Paris is 210, about 50 minutes in a light jet. A flight to Zurich or Paris stays inside Schengen or the French domestic system, so there is no passport control at the far end, but goods can still meet customs, which is why the handler is told the destination when the leg is booked.
Before you accept an onward quote from Colmar
– Which airport you leave from. Colmar-Houssen is staffed only for part of the day, so a departure at the end of a long dinner is not a Colmar-Houssen departure. We move such flights to EuroAirport or Strasbourg and say so in the quote;
– Whether the legs are one booking. Colmar to Zurich and on to Munich over a long weekend costs noticeably less arranged as one trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of repositioning to base between stops.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Colmar:
Light jets, the only class that can use Colmar-Houssen
On a sector of an hour and a quarter a light jet is comfortable for a small party with ordinary luggage, and it is the type that can land a kilometre from the old town. At EuroAirport or Strasbourg the same aircraft saves money that is better spent on the car and the table.
Midsize, for wine cases, ski bags and a full family
Alsace fills the hold in both directions: cases of wine on the way home, skis and boots for the Vosges in winter, a pushchair and gifts at Christmas. A midsize jet gives you the room and the range, and lands at EuroAirport or Strasbourg.
Super-midsize and large
For a group travelling as one party, a delegation that wants to work in the air, or a trip that carries on from Alsace to the Gulf. Runway length is no issue at EuroAirport (3,900 m) or Strasbourg (2,400 m).
Turboprops
The right aircraft for the hops from Colmar to Zurich, Geneva and the Alpine airfields, and the type that can use a short runway such as Colmar-Houssen. The Pilatus PC-12 is also one of the commonest business types at EuroAirport.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch and for the view: the wine villages, the castles on the Vosges ridge and the Rhine plain from above. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Basel, Zurich and Strasbourg all have a steady flow of light and midsize jets, so there is often an aircraft within half an hour of the airport, and outside the Christmas and August weeks that is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports for Colmar
Three airports carry the Colmar trips, and a fourth is a small field across the Rhine. Which one is right depends on the size of the aircraft, the hour of the day and whether the party is stopping in Colmar or heading up the wine road.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg BSL / MLH / EAP / LFSB |
The gateway for most Colmar trips, about 60 km from the town by road. The airport stands on French soil and is run jointly by France and Switzerland, with a Swiss sector and a French one. The business handlers are Air Service Basel, which sits in the Swiss sector on the private aprons with customs and immigration on site, Jet Aviation, with a customs office, and Swissport Executive Aviation, with expedited border clearance. Runways 15/33 at 3,900 m and 08/26 at 1,820 m, so no aircraft we send is limited. Every aircraft that parks needs a handling agent, and the apron is busy in the fair weeks of Basel |
| Strasbourg-Entzheim SXB / LFST |
The second large option, about 68 km from Colmar, with one bituminous runway of 2,400 m by 45 m, an ILS at both ends and category III on runway 23. It has a general aviation terminal, a customs and immigration office and a fuel supplier on site. Customs is staffed from 06:00 to 23:00 local time and the terminal from 06:00 to 22:00, and Strasbourg Handling is compulsory for international general aviation flights. Choose it when the programme is in Strasbourg or the northern wine road, or when Basel is full |
| Colmar-Houssen CMR / LFGA |
The town's own airfield, on the northern edge of Colmar and about a kilometre from the centre, at 191 m above sea level. Asphalt runway 01/19 of 1,610 m by 30 m with a parallel grass strip, approved for category I precision landings, fire category 5. The airfield calls itself the business airport for Alsace and is open outside its staffed hours on request. It suits light jets and turboprops, with handling by the airport operator, and most of its traffic is sport and leisure aviation. Its regular hours are short, customs is on 24 hours' notice, and a midsize or larger jet belongs at EuroAirport or Strasbourg |
| Freiburg im Breisgau EDTF |
A small German airfield on the other side of the Rhine, with a 1,400 m asphalt runway, roughly 40 km from Colmar in a straight line. Aircraft over 10 tonnes need prior permission and there is no scheduled service, so it suits a turboprop for the Black Forest and nothing larger. A Colmar party arriving here would cross the Rhine into France by road, which is rarely worth the saving |
Four things to settle before a Colmar landing:
Which airport, and which sector
A light jet with up to four people can use Colmar-Houssen if the day suits its hours and the type is approved for the runway. Anything larger, and any trip that ends in the evening, goes to EuroAirport or Strasbourg. At EuroAirport the handler we use most sits on the Swiss side, and we name the handler in the quote.
Hours, in local time
French AIP hours are written in UTC, which is one hour behind France in winter and two in summer. On this page they are converted to local time. Colmar-Houssen is staffed on weekdays from 08:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00 and is open outside those hours on request. Strasbourg customs works from 06:00 to 23:00, and the general aviation terminal from 06:00 to 22:00.
Border, customs and passport
Britain is outside Schengen and France is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport under ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system, which is free.
Car and the road out
Give us the handler as well as the flight. At EuroAirport the private aprons sit apart from the passenger terminal, and a driver told only airport may wait at the wrong door. The road into France and the road into Switzerland leave from different points, and we agree which one the car takes before landing.

Hours, customs and the airfield on the edge of town
A small airfield with a tower and a handful of staff works differently from an international airport, and Colmar-Houssen shows it. Its published staffed hours are short, and the rest of the day it is available on request. The French aeronautical publication gives its hours in UTC: in winter that is 07:00 to 11:00 and 13:00 to 16:00, and in summer the same local hours fall one hour earlier in UTC, so on the clock in Colmar the airfield is staffed from 08:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00 on weekdays all year. The airport lists fuel from 08:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:30. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the staffed periods are 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00 from November to February, and until 18:00 from March to October. Landing outside those hours needs an opening request to the operator, and an hour of extra opening carries a fee, so a late arrival is priced in the quote.
Customs follows the same logic. EuroAirport and Strasbourg are staffed border posts. Colmar-Houssen is listed with customs on 24 hours' notice, and it is not a full-time border post, so a flight from Britain is cleared by prior arrangement and only when the arrival fits the staffed hours. When the party wants no surprises on the ground, we land at EuroAirport or Strasbourg and drive. Strasbourg publishes customs and immigration from 06:00 to 23:00 local time and asks for 24 hours' notice outside them, and its night rules bar take-offs between 23:30 and 06:00 and landings between 00:00 and 06:00, local time, for most aircraft, so a very late departure is moved to another airport.
Border, customs and the two halves of EuroAirport
EuroAirport is the only binational airport in the world, and it shows when you ask who checks you. The ground is French, but in the Swiss sector Swiss law applies to customs, medical services and police work, and Swiss border guards handle passport control, while in the French sector the French airport police do. The handler we use most, Air Service Basel, sits in the Swiss sector, which is why a private jet to Colmar is typically cleared by Swiss officers, in a private lounge, in ten to twenty minutes. Switzerland is in Schengen, so there is no further passport check on the drive into France. It is outside the EU customs union, which is why goods are another matter: the exit the car takes decides whether Swiss or French customs looks at the bags. Declare what could be taxed, tell the handler if the party carries artworks, watches or samples, and ask about the wine for the way home, since UK customs allowances apply to what you bring back.
For the return, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure. We prepare it with the flight plan, and we confirm in writing which handler and which authority covers the sector you will use. A British charter operator can also need a permit from the French or Swiss aviation authority for the route, and we track that with the aircraft paperwork before the quote goes out.

From the apron to the Lauch
Colmar is a town of about 67,000 people on the Lauch river, just east of the Vosges, and the prefecture of the Haut-Rhin department. It lies in one of the driest parts of France, with an annual rainfall of about 600 mm, which is why the vineyards on the slopes behind it do so well. The old town is small enough to cross on foot in half an hour, and what a private client does with the rest of the day depends on the road. The distances below are by road from the town unless they say otherwise.

A day in Colmar, and the roads out of it
The old town is what people come for, and it works best on foot. La Petite Venise is the canal district along the Lauch, with half-timbered houses and flower-decked balconies above the water, best seen early in the morning or late in the evening. The Maison des Têtes, built in the early seventeenth century in the German Renaissance style, is named for the carved faces on its facade. The Koïfhus, the old customs house of the fifteenth century, and the Pfister House, built in the sixteenth, stand within a few minutes of each other, and the Saint-Martin collegiate church and the former Dominican church are close by. The Dominican church holds Martin Schongauer's Madonna of the Rose Bower, a painting that people cross the town to see.
The Unterlinden Museum is the one stop we would not skip. It occupies a medieval convent and a bath house that was extended by the Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron, it is the most visited museum in Alsace, with about 200,000 visitors a year, and it houses the Isenheim Altarpiece by Matthias Grünewald, one of the great works of German painting. We book the visit together with the car and the lunch. A shorter visit is the Bartholdi Museum in the house on Rue des Marchands where the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty was born. A twelve-metre replica of the statue stands at the northern entrance to the town on the Route de Strasbourg, put there by the city to mark the centenary of his death.
Outside the walls the programme splits three ways. The Alsace Wine Route runs for 170 km through about 70 communes along the foot of the Vosges, and four of its villages are within 16 km of Colmar: Eguisheim, laid out in a circle around its castle, Kaysersberg, with its ramparts and the ruined imperial castle above the roofs, Riquewihr, a fortified medieval village that is at its busiest during the Christmas markets, and Ribeauvillé, a town of large wine estates. The Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, on a spur above the plain, was burned during the Thirty Years War, stood empty for centuries and was rebuilt in the first years of the twentieth century for Kaiser Wilhelm II, and it draws more than half a million visitors a year. The Vosges are the third direction. The Grand Ballon, at 1,424 m the highest summit of the range, stands in the Ballons des Vosges regional park, the Route des Crêtes runs for more than 80 km along the ridge, and the road over the Col de la Schlucht is closed from November to April, so the high road is a summer drive. Winter in the same hills means the small ski station at the Grand Ballon, with 10 slopes and 5 lifts.
Alsace on the plate, and the tables worth booking
The cooking of Alsace is hearty and it rewards a long lunch. Choucroute garnie is the symbol of the region, sauerkraut fermented with salt and juniper and served with pork, sausage, bacon and potatoes. Flammekueche, the tarte flambée, is a very thin dough with fromage blanc, crème fraîche, bacon and onions, and it comes straight from the oven to the table in a winstub, the traditional tavern. Baeckeoffe is the slow dish, potatoes and three meats baked for hours in a covered terrine with Alsace white wine. Kougelhopf is the yeast cake baked in a fluted mould, and it appears at breakfast and at the end of a Sunday meal. Munster cheese comes from the valley of the same name, 25 minutes from Colmar. About 90 per cent of Alsace wine is white, Riesling and Gewurztraminer lead, and the sparkling Crémant d'Alsace has its own appellation.
The tables with stars are few and close. JY's, in Colmar beside the Champ-de-Mars park, serves creative cooking by Jean-Yves Schillinger and holds two Michelin stars. The Auberge de l'Ill at Illhaeusern, on the river Ill between Colmar and Sélestat, holds two stars for classic cuisine, with the Riesling matelote of the Haeberlin family as its signature. Stars move between editions of the guide, so we check the current listing when you ask us to book, and we ask for both tables early when the party comes for the Christmas weeks or the wine fair.
Flying to Colmar with a dog or a cat
For a pet the paperwork is the part of a Colmar trip that needs planning, and the flight is the easy bit: the animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold, and on a sector of an hour and a quarter most simply sleep. The date on the health certificate is the detail that goes wrong, because the certificate for entry to the EU is valid for only ten days.

France applies the EU rules to a pet that arrives from Britain. What the French authorities ask:
- An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before entry. No blood test is needed for an animal travelling from Great Britain;
- An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
- No more than five animals per traveller. The animal is shown to customs on arrival, and we confirm in writing the airport and the entry point for the animal;
- A dog must have at least one adult tooth. Dogs of the type that France places in category 1 (attack-type dogs without a stud book registration) cannot be imported, and category 2 dogs may enter only if they are registered in a stud book;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Colmar run
– The sector decides the rules. A pet that lands in the Swiss sector of EuroAirport arrives in Switzerland, which has its own requirements and does not copy the EU's, and is then driven into France, where the EU paperwork must still be dated correctly. We prepare both and check them before the flight, not at the terminal;
– The certificate and the Christmas weekend. A certificate is valid for ten days for entry, so a weekend trip fits easily, but a longer stay in the Vosges needs the dates counted, and the return needs a vet in Alsace or Basel for the tapeworm treatment inside the 24 to 120 hour window;
– Restaurants and hotels. Dog rules differ between restaurants and hotels, so we ask the hotel before the animal is booked.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. The certificate is valid for the return as stated on it, and an animal that does not meet the British rules can be placed in quarantine for up to four months. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.
The Colmar calendar: music, wine, harvest and the Christmas markets
Colmar has a few weeks that fill the old town, and they are different in kind: a classical music festival in July, the wine fair at the turn of July and August, the harvest in the autumn, and the Christmas markets that make the winter season. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why the Christmas weeks and the wine fair cost more
Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and the Alsace corridor is well placed in it. What gets tight is the old town: the hotels, the good tables and the cars, all in the same week, and at EuroAirport the apron fills in the Basel fair weeks. A booking made a fortnight before the Christmas markets can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Zurich or Strasbourg, and that costs more. The same booking made six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks Colmar is easy to fly into, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Colmar price down
- Move the dates by a few days where you can. The weeks before the markets open and the days after the wine fair closes are calmer than the fair days themselves;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Zurich, Strasbourg or Geneva takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector this short positioning is a meaningful part of the bill;
- Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people and four bags do not need a midsize, and the money saved buys the car and the table at JY's.
Types of flights
Colmar produces a different mix from the Alpine resorts or the Mediterranean destinations we cover, because it is a destination for taste: the wine, the table, the museum and the old town, with business in the cities on either side of it.
- Wine and gastronomy trips, with a day on the wine road, an estate visit and a table booked well in advance;
- Christmas market weekends, small parties who arrive on the Friday and leave on the Sunday, frequently with a dog;
- Art and architecture visits, centred on the Unterlinden Museum and the Isenheim Altarpiece;
- Family trips with Europa-Park, which lies a little under an hour from Colmar by road;
- Onward trips from Colmar into the Vosges, the Black Forest and the Swiss Alps, by road or by a short second flight;
- Business visits to Basel, Mulhouse and Strasbourg, with Colmar as the base for the evening.
The day trip is the one to look at closely. Land at EuroAirport a little after nine, leave at five in the afternoon local time and you are back on the British side at about ten past five, UK time, with nearly eight hours on the ground in between, of which about an hour and forty minutes goes on the road there and back. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote it both ways, so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Colmar is a short sector from London, and its empty legs follow the rhythm of the weekends and the markets, so it helps to know what produces them.
Where Colmar empty legs come from
– Christmas market weekends. Aircraft bring parties in for the Friday and go home empty on the Sunday, and that evening leg is the one most often offered;
– The wine fair and the summer festival. Aircraft that dropped guests at the start of a week come back for them at the end, and the legs in between can be cheap;
– The Basel and Zurich business corridor. Operators move aircraft between EuroAirport, Zurich and Strasbourg, and the short legs between them sometimes connect with London.
Because the Alsace corridor is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Colmar match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
Around Colmar a helicopter is a way of seeing the country rather than of crossing it. The old town is small, the roads are good and the wine villages are a quarter of an hour apart, but the castles on the ridge and the vineyards look different from the air, and the helicopter is the way to see them in an hour. The Swiss air-rescue service Rega has a base on the airfield at Basel.

Kaysersberg, Ribeauvillé, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle and backabout 20 minutes
adds Neuf-Brisach, then Sélestat and Mont Sainte-Odile on the longest route30 to 40 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A hotel lawn or a vineyard terrace needs its status confirmed before we quote, not after, and the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle and the villages of the wine road are not landing sites;
– Weather sets the schedule. Fog on the Rhine plain in autumn and winter, and low cloud on the Vosges ridge, can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;
– A flight across the Rhine into Germany, for Europa-Park or the Black Forest, means a second set of permissions. Tell us the landing site at the other end when you ask for the quote, and book the helicopter together with the jet.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for the hills, the wider H130 for villa and country-house transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. The short scenic loops from Colmar-Houssen are flown in a small piston helicopter that takes three passengers, which is a different thing from a private charter, and we book the charter helicopters alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Colmar charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK
Lunch on the wine road and home for dinner
Biggin Hill - Basel-Mulhouse and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 15 min each way · 4 pax
Wheels up at seven, on the ground at EuroAirport a little after nine local time, a car to Eguisheim and a long lunch, and back at Biggin Hill in the early evening. The aircraft and crew waited at the handler rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and still comes in below two separate one-way charters. A long day, and it works.
CHRISTMAS MARKET · A DOG ON BOARD
Four adults and a spaniel for a December weekend
Farnborough - Basel-Mulhouse, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 15 min · 4 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the hotel in the old town took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in one exchange of messages rather than three.
A LIGHT JET TO THE TOWN'S OWN AIRFIELD
Two directors and a short meeting in Colmar
London City - Colmar-Houssen, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 15 min · 2 pax
The party wanted to land close to the meeting and had no luggage to speak of. We sent a light jet, filed the customs notice a day ahead and timed both the arrival and the return inside the staffed hours of the airfield, so nobody needed an opening request.
WINE FAIR WEEK · A FULL CABIN
Six guests for the weekend of the wine fair
London Luton - Strasbourg-Entzheim, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 20 min · 6 pax
The customer first asked for EuroAirport and then moved to Strasbourg because the party wanted a night at a hotel on the northern end of the wine road. The handler was booked with the flight because it is compulsory for international general aviation at Strasbourg, and the car left the apron for Colmar a few minutes after the aircraft stopped.
ART WEEKEND · THE ISENHEIM ALTARPIECE
Five guests, a museum visit and a table
Manchester - Basel-Mulhouse, Citation Latitude, about 1 h 35 min · 5 pax
They came for the museum, so the visit set the arrival, and the handler pre-arranged the passport check at EuroAirport. A car met the aircraft at the Swiss apron, a table was kept for the evening, and the return left on the Sunday after a slow morning on the wine road.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST
A jet already going your way
Basel-Mulhouse - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 15 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Colmar
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Colmar?
About 1 hour 10 minutes from Biggin Hill in a Phenom 300E to EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse, 1 hour 15 minutes from London City, Luton or Farnborough, covering roughly 383 to 415 nautical miles, plus about 50 minutes by road to Colmar. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 1 hour 30 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 1 hour 50 minutes. France is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands a little after nine local time.
2How much does a private jet to Colmar cost?
From about £6,250 one way on a Phenom 300E out of Biggin Hill to EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse, and £6,300 from London City. The same aircraft from Farnborough or Luton runs £6,500 to £6,600, a midsize cabin £8,200 to £9,050 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £14,700 to £15,100. The Christmas market weeks and the wine fair price above these figures.
3Which airport should a private jet use for Colmar?
EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg (BSL / MLH / LFSB) for most trips, about 60 km and 50 minutes by road, with the main business handler and customs on the Swiss side and a 3,900 m runway. Strasbourg-Entzheim (SXB / LFST), about 68 km away, is the second large option, with a customs office and a general aviation terminal. Colmar-Houssen (CMR / LFGA) is the town's own airfield, with a 1,610 m runway, and it takes light jets and turboprops only.
4Can a private jet land at Colmar-Houssen, and when is it open?
Yes, if it is a light jet or a turboprop that is approved for the 1,610 m runway. The airfield is staffed on weekdays from 08:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00 local time, which the French aeronautical publication writes in UTC (07:00 to 11:00 and 13:00 to 16:00 in winter, one hour earlier in summer), and it is open outside those hours on request. Customs is on 24 hours' notice, so most clients land at EuroAirport or Strasbourg and drive.
5Do I need a visa or a customs clearance for Colmar?
Britain is outside Schengen and France is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport under ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system, which is free. The main business handler at EuroAirport sits in the Swiss sector, so Swiss officers typically handle the clearance there.
6Can I take my dog to Colmar on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you. France asks for a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry, with no blood test for an animal from Great Britain. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt.
